- Vince Russo and Lucha Underground are in talks and he is expected to be in Los Angeles this coming week for a meeting. Publicly the story is that he is just going there to do interviews for his podcast. He does have an interview with Melissa Santos, the ring announcer. However, Eric Van Wagenen has been pushing to get Russo into the company. Some have questioned this because Russo has no background or knowledge of Mexican wrestling.
This may be a coincidence but some people compared the writing of this past weekend’s Lucha Underground tapings to Vince Russo style of writing. The one match that stuck out was the mask vs. mask match that was taped on 2/7. The match was made with no buildup. The story on the show was that Dario Cueto orders Sexy Star and Super Fly, who are friends on the show, to wrestle each other and the loser must unmask.
There were people unhappy with this because mask vs. mask matches are a big deal in Mexico and the show airs on Unimas. The Unimas airing gets a much larger audience than the El Rey Network airing. So the match was done with no buildup, no meaning behind it, and in the end Super Fly was unmasked after losing to a woman so it pretty much kills him and there was no post-match deal to at least attempt to make his unmasking a big deal. In the end it just came off like a TNA angle where something that should be a big deal happens but then they just cut to commercial or cut to a backstage segment.
News from The Wrestling Observer website was used in this post.

Rey Rey would have to pay me to go watch him.
- According to f4wonline.com, there was an agreement in place where WWE would announce Mysterio no longer being with the company today, but the news got out and WWE confirmed it yesterday.
Official announcements regarding his future are said to be coming, but word is that he will wrestle for Lucha Underground and AAA. AAA has a press conference scheduled for Tuesday. At this time, Mysterio is reportedly asking for between $15,000 and $20,000 for independent appearances. One independent promoter stated that you could gross about $25,000 for photos and autographs with him right now and make money.

So, Mysterio killed a guy.
Reports that El Hijo del Perro Aguayo, one of the Mexico’s top stars, died earlier this morning due to injuries he sustained during a match on Friday night, has been confirmed by the Mexico-based AAA and CMLL professional wrestling promotions.
Aguayo’s death comes after competing in a match on Friday night against former WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio. During the match, Aguayo tried to avoid Mysterio’s 619 maneuver and ended up getting hit in his trachea, which caused severe whiplash. Aguayo was then placed on a backbrace and was stretchered out of the Municipal Auditorium before being taken to Del Prado Hospital for treatment.
Aguayo was initially reported to be in stable condition despite being unconscious, it was then reported that Aguayo later died at 1:00 AM local time.
AAA later confirmed the news on their official Twitter page, with AAA tweeting “The grief overwhelms our hearts. Rest in peace, El Hijo del Perro Aguayo.”

I just read that he had died from whiplash? during his match but I did not see until you posted it that it was LCW that killed him. Maybe its time to retire the 619 crap. It can't be easy to land that ridiculous move with all the knee braces and leather trash bags he is wearing.

What in the hell is the ref doing? I think that was Konnan treating a broken trachea with the "shake em' til' you wake em'" technique.

According to MedioTiempo.com, the cause of the death for AAA star El Hijo Del Perro Aguayo was a stroke caused by cervical spinal damage.
There have been many questions as to why it took almost 2 full minutes for anyone to treat Aguayo after he fell unconscious in the ring, and the Medio Tiempo report is noting the doctor in charge of the event was preoccupied with treating two other injured wrestlers, so he was unable to be present at ringside for the main event.
Following his collapse, Aguayo was carried out on a piece of plywood, as officials wanted to get him backstage as quickly as possible so he could be transferred to an ambulance.
The report also notes doctors at the Tijuana hospital to which Aguayo was taken tried to resuscitate him for over an hour before pronouncing him dead.

What caused the damage? In every clip I saw he was already out and laying on the ropes.

The Associated Press is the latest mainstream media outlet to pick up on the tragic death of El Hijo Del Perro Aguayo, real name Pedro Aguayo Ramírez (pictured at right). Aguayo died early this morning after an accident during a match in Tijuana, Mexico last night where he teamed with Manik to face Extreme Tiger and Mysterio for the CRASH Lucha Libre independent promotion.
Ramirez took a spinning head scissors from Mysterio during the match, got back into the ring, and then took a dropkick to setup a 619 from Mysterio. At this time, the cause of death appears to be from a snapped vertebrae when Aguayo’s head landed on the ropes following the dropkick.

So I've been watching for the past 3 weeks on Univision. I don't get the show in English, it's all Spanish, but the actual wrestling is really good.
The Trios tournament has been great. Right now I'm watching Ricochet, John Morrison & Hernandez vs "Mr. GMSI" Brian Cage and two others I have no idea who they are. Daivari is sitting in the crowd.
I literally have no idea what's going on because I got a D- in freshman Spanish. All I can make out is Hugo Savinovich saying "JOHNNY MUNDO!!!" every so often.
I've recognized Ivalise, Willie Mack, Big Zeke & a few others. Pretty good.

And now it's Brian Cage vs Willie Mack vs Matt Cross. I have no idea why, but I like it!
This episode has turned in the Brian Cage Show & I couldn't support it more!

Not too shabby!!
– According to the WON, Alberto El Patron’s deal with Lucha Undergound guarantees him $500,000 a year. That’s a very different kind of deal than most of the talent, who are working long-term contracts with low rates per match. He is still able to work independent and Mexico dates.

AR Fox has been discussed as one of the new talents that could be brought in for season two of Lucha Underground. He has had success in organizations like CZW, Dragon Gate, Evolve and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. They originally wanted to bring in Fox with Rich Swann when they made a deal for Ricochet last year. However, they were all under contract with EVOLVE and LU decided to only pay for Ricochet.
There’s no word on when or if the second season will happen yet. Those involved with LU are moving forward as if there will be a second season. Talent is starting to fill up bookings for dates that could be TV tapings, which would take priority.

During an interview with TodaysKnockout.com, John Morrison said he could basically destroy WWE Champion Seth Rollins in anything. Here’s a quote from the former WWE Superstar:
“I’d kill him. He works hard, he’s in alright shape, but CrossFit isn’t necessarily the best way to workout. I think what they’re doing is just throwing a bunch of crap out there and people are following it blindly.
I think that’s incorrect… I think I would destroy Seth Rollins in pretty much everything: Wrestling, fighting, CrossFit, and definitely any kind of functional training. He’s a good guy though. Am call him out lol I’d love to work with him.
I think we both would blow the roof of any building we’d wrestle in….”

I get #LuchaUnderground now! I flipped over for a moment to see Chavo Jr. in a worked Spanish business transaction. I'll try it on DVR when I'm ready to give it the real chance.

Former WWE Superstar Alberto El Patron (Del Rio) failed to appear for his advertised match at this weekend’s Lone Star Championship Wrestling benefit show ‘Bustin 4 Autism’ in Pasadena, TX. According to the promotion and its sponsor, Alberto was in communication with them the day before the event, was paid in advance with premium travel and accommodations, but did not show for his main event match and has still not given any explanation for his absence.
Here is the official statement from Clutch City Productions, who helped promote the show:
We would like to sincerely apologize to all the fans that came out expecting to see Alberto “El Patron” (Del Rio) in action tonight. Alberto was advertised as the main event for the “Bustin for Autism” charity event in Houston (Pasadena) TX and he did not show up.
Fans in the Houston area are familiar with our company and know that we have an excellent reputation. We would never false advertise any talent or mislead the fans. We will always state the facts, as of 11:55PM we have not received any information from Alberto’s “camp” as to why he did not appear at the event. Alberto helped us promote the event through his social media and as of 9:00PM yesterday there has always been constant communication. Alberto was given money up front as a deposit, he was provided with a four-star hotel, as well as first class air-fare. We followed through with all the terms that were required by Alberto and have numerous e-mails, and text with all this information.
We understand that unforeseen circumstances sometimes happen and we are hoping that Alberto is doing well. It is unclear what caused the “no-show” but it is very difficult to comprehend as to why we weren’t notified by a member of his camp. Alberto was to appear at an autograph session before his match from 4:00PM-6:00P, we have been attempting to contact him since 12:00PM today. Nevertheless, we scrambled and did everything possible to make sure that the fans of LoneStar Championship Wrestling left satisfied. Special thanks to professionals such as Tommy Dreamer & Lance Hoyt (who put on a hardcore match as the main event), and Gene Snitsky (who faced Carson in Alberto’s place).
Again, we thank all the fans that came out tonight and supported a great cause!

STATEMENT FROM LONE STAR CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING Almost 24 hours later, we still have not heard from the camp of Alberto El Patron. Mr. El Patron was booked through our co-promotion partner Clutch City Productions to headline the Bustin 4 Autism charity pro wrestling event in Pasadena, TX last night. Mr. El Patron would not know who we are directly, since his camp’s dealings were with our promotional partner. Like the charity and fans who purchased tickets, we are affected. A lot of time, money and effort was put in to this event. Those who know us, understand that we strive to put on quality events. We are a company that our fans can trust. Mr. El Patron’s unexcused and unexplained “no show” unfairly taints that reputation. Though we were not directly involved in the negotiation and booking with El Patron’s camp, there is no doubt that the Bustin 4 Autism team were more than fair and gracious in the process. At this point, our thoughts are initially with Mr. El Patron’s well being. He seems to have disappeared. Once the dust settles, we are confident that Mr. El Patron will do the right thing and return the deposit he was paid, along with premium travel funds lost by the charity. We might also suggest that Mr. El Patron take it a step further, and make an additional donation to the charity. We would like to thank the fans and sponsors who stepped up to support this event for the Bustin 4 Autism 501c group. We would also like to recognize our co-promotional partner, Clutch City Productions, who put forth an incredible effort to promote and help organize this event. We look forward to working with them and the Bustin 4 Autism folks in the future. In closing, we also thank the wrestlers who stepped up to make this a memorable event, as well as the many staff members and volunteers who contributed in some manner. I wonder what's up with ADR? I agree with KS, hopefully something didn't happen to him. That being said, I wonder what the reason is you no show not just a show, but an autism benefit. That's pretty shitty.
In regards to Lucha Underground, I watched this past weeks episode, Brian Cage vs Willie Mack was fantastic. I've never been a fan of Ricky Banderas, so this Mil Muertes character he has I don't care for at all (I've seen the spoilers too). Maxine is great though.
Wish I could understand just what the hell they were saying, but even in Spanish, this show rules.
