Been raining steadily for 18+ hours. How wet is it?
I have a culvert/dry creek running through the back of the yard. It is about 15 feet deep. It was bone dry Thursday. Now it is half full with a torrent running through it.
The pool is overflowing. There was at least 8 inches of space between the top of the water and the pool deck. No more.
I planted a tree this week and tamped it down solid. It is uprooted and tried to float away.

Ten inches have fallen outside so far with another night and day of rain coming. The yard is a swamp but inside, we are bone dry and stocked up with beer, scotch and food. All sports channels working. Bring it!

Drying out but damn that was some rain. At least a foot, probably more.
I am starting to explore architects and contractors. Tough enough in a town where you know people. Really tough to know who is reliable in a new place that has the service ethic they have around here.

Good to hear you're going forward with our moat idea. MSFMB is a brilliant idea factory.

Good to hear you're going forward with our moat idea. MSFMB is a brilliant idea factory. Now we need to design his draw bridge.

Greetings from my small room that is now my tornado shelter as it is the only "room" on the ground floor without windows. We have a full-fledged tornado warning as funnel clouds are around. It is raining harder than it did last week, if that is possible. Cell phone and internet seems to br working so we have that going for us, which is nice. Damage and destruction, poeer outages, floods...this weather craziness is simply WTF

Be safe Coast. Chicago weather has nothing on Texas. My goodness.
If things get very bad just take your belt and wrap it around a water pipe.

So the tornados have passed. Our neighbor who monitors weather posted that we got just over 4 inches of rain between 8 and 12, with highest recorded wind at 56 mph on our street.
I looked outside and see the olive tree I planted last week was bent over. As I went out to tie it back up, I was attacked by fire ants. Within 1 minute, there were a LOT of fire ants in my shoe. Ok this is the last time I go outside to work on something without socks and boots on. No more boat shoes in the yard. And now I have hot feet. Literally.
Damn is this a great place or what. WTF.

Seems like every creek is flooding and roads closed everywhere. Reports of cars basically in gridlock everywhere because roads are closed to high water, people are stranded and no room to go forward or turn around. I remember maybe one night several years ago when Chicago got a rush hour storm and it took me 4 hours to get home. Here, it's now twice in one week that rains are so heavy, most roads are under water. www.atxfloods.com/

Torrential rains today and I have an 8:20 am tee time in the am. The club just called to tell me the front nine will be open for business, but the back nine is flooded. We got a freaking tropical storm like rain today and the golf course is going to be open. Now that's a good kind of WTF deal right there.
Going to need to pick the ball, not dig it tomorrow.

14 inches total at the airport today, breaking the all time record for one day of rain of 8 inches. We went 4 months without rain, had a drought and now we are on track to be the wettest year in history. The weathercasters have been predicting a really wet EL Nino this fall/winter. El Nino has arrived. Rain still falling and another storm in a a few days. WTF.
If the south is going to be really wet from El Nino, doesn't that mean the North is going to be drier than normal?

Two weekends in a row we have had tropical storm like weather. Here we go again. I'm not sure where all this rain is going to go, other than flood still-saturated ground, and streams and rivers that are still well above normal...and roadways everywhere. I had two large trees that had probably been weakened by the drought that fell in last week's storm. It's quite a thing to hear a big tree fall. I wonder what will fall this week. And maybe worst of all, the golf courses are probably going to be flooded again. WTF.

I don't think the city has nearly the snake issues we have 20 minutes away in the country. I wanted partially rural, and with the snakes, I got it.
I forget if I posted this, but one of our dogs was bit by a rattlesnake early on. So my wife wants a shotgun ...to use on the snakes. Shovel does the job for me just fine. The idea of Annie Oakley firing a wide pattern of shot across our yard doesn't really do it for me, especially with dogs and deer running around. but she would surely fit right in.

Little golf outing today with a few PGA pros. That was fun. They paired me up with a Japanese woman -- a real sweet beauty-- who is about a 5 handicap. That was fun too. I birdied the #1 handicap hole. She sank her birdie putt on top of mine. Even when I played a hole great, it was tough to get a skin from her. First time I have been smoked on the links by a woman. All good though.

yes, Troy Merritt and Robert Streb. They told some funny stories about guys on tour. They said playing with Tiger or Phil, the crowds are huge and once those guys hit, the crowd moves. They often hear the marshals yell, "Hold on please, we have one more player",
Game is coming...a few shots better today than yesterday. Nov 12 and I'm in early season form, playing golf in shorts. That's a pretty good WTF.
