No longer can I clutter other threads with the discussion of awesome home improvement or general construction projects.
This is the place. Strap up those tool belts.....even though I have worn a tool belt for about 2 days of the thousands I have worked. Hate those god damn things. They completely destroy your center of gravity. I have a tool backpack.
My current project.....Its the bathroom domination project that has been spoken of in other threads. I won't rehash the awesomeness that has already gone down. Right now its time to paint the trim. I used a sick 6 inch base with a curvy 4 inch molding for the doors. Both were primed upon arrival so I just have to coat them with some semi gloss.

Have you ever just woken up and said " dammit...i hate that small entrance to the kitchen....lets blow that bitch open by a few feet and put a new header in and live large"? That happened today. Its a done deal and the first coat of mud and tape are already on. It was a 22 inch extension of the opening into the kitchen but it makes SOOOOOOOOO much of a difference as far as natural lighting and sightlines go.

I will also never willingly choose to do drywall or mudding ever again.

I've woken up in college and discovered new openings we created the night before? It eventually led to repair. Does that count?

I forgot to add posts for my.....
Woke up and decided the shitty old lights in the kitchen needed to be removed and 4 inch LED recessed lights needed to be installed....6 of them to be exact.
Woke up and decided the hall light needed to become a 4 inch recessed light as well....and then that the basement 3way was poorly run and needed to be replaced....and while I was at it why not add a sweet led 6 inch light to the stairwell.

Hello Doctor DIY, I have a question. I need to build some shelves and a few of the shelves will be into a brick wall. What products do you recommend for me to set bolts/brackets into brick. I assume I will drill into the mortar, rather than the brick, but what products should I use for the anchor bolts, etc. Anything I should be aware of drilling into brick? Thank you.

What size are the shelves and what do you plan on them supporting?

Skim coating your entire kitchen ceiling on a sunday night with drywall mud to ensure a uniform smooth ceiling is way more enjoyable than running contests for meanies.

This is why, despite various pressures, I try to only commit to things I'll stick to. That Yahoo or ESPN run Nascar contest would have made a ton of sense. It's too much work for any individual for the actual benefits. P.S. I don't know how it's possible, but I kind of suck at drywall. I actually think I used to be better at it.

Drywall is an evil beast. You must be patient with it and engage it as many times as it likes for it and you to be happy. I've gotten much better at it. This one is a bitch. Its the kitchen where I tore out the soffits. Its tight quarters and lots of corners. On top of that the ceiling is some shitty half ass texture from years ago that has been patched a few times from leakage from the old vent stack I tore out roofed over. I use the whole damn bucket just skim coating.

In a totally unrelated story.... I went up to MI and helped my cousin with his bath and kitchen remodel over the weekend. Holy fuckballs is benton harbor, mi the fucking hood of all hoods. We were safely working on the other side of the river...but home depot trips took us right through B.H. Alabastor Jones was there. Friday afternoon and dude that looked like kat williams strolled down the street in a fur coat and hat. He wasnt playin...that shit was real.

I'm still sitting down waiting for my answer on drilling into brick.

I would probably use some tapcon screws. You would need a hammer drill to get the hole initially and then you drill these screw right into that hole and they bite into the brick or concrete. 1/4 inch should be fine for a 3 foot shelf.

I thought the poles only did tile?
Time to sand the kitchen ceiling. Shittiest job ever. Contemplating having a beverage to make it more interesting....seeing as I just found out I am off work tomorrow.

My roofers and siding guys were Polish. The dude was nice enough, but the I thought I was getting tossed to the first floor the first time I got in his way.

My area of WI has absolutely no diversity to the construction crews. I have seen 1 mexican dude and that was it. Kays handi man was probably from turkey or something though.

Now that the soffit crap is done....I started tearing up the old linoleum in the kitchen/dining/back hallway area. That shit is a pain in the ass to get up. I have all of it torn up except a few little spots i will hit tomorrow. I got half of the cement board embedded in mortar, screwed down, joints taped and mortared. I will finish that up tomorrow. It should make tiling much easier since I have that huge, but necessary, paint in the ass step done. Still haven't decided on a tile but pretty sure I want 18 x 18.
