I am tired of hearing people bitch and whine and blame everyone else for everything while never looking in the god damn mirror. IMO all this protesting and bombing and rioting just pisses people off more. All lives matter. If you want the world to be a better place then ask yourself what you did today that was productive and conducive to accomplishing that. If you want the present and future to be better then stop blaming the past.

If you want the world to be a better place then ask yourself what you did today that was productive and conducive to accomplishing that. If you want the present and future to be better then stop blaming the past. All of this needs to happen. No question. The problem is none of this is easy. This is a generational issue. It's developed over generations, and it will take generations to fix. Things I've heard tonight: It's inexcusable what that cop did. Give him the chair! What's that nig*er doing breaking into cars on PCP? If you do bad shit, bad shit can happen to you. Even the people that want better things for everyone want an easy conclusion here. It was one rogue cop! String him up! It was a criminal drug addict. Oh, and he's black! String him up! There are institutions in our society that want the masses to keep thinking these things. It's easy. You have a bad guy, no matter what side you're on. But there's a government that would have covered this up to no end without the push for the video release. The cop that 98 percent of people are against would probably still have a desk job for life. There's a police union that absolutely refuses to admit that there are really bad guys in uniform. Guys that make us defend police that just do their job, and an often thankless job at that. We keep trying to build a divide between the doers and the takers, when most of that is TV driven bullshit at this point. But we also act like this is new. Yes, we're probably leaving a worse society for the next generation. But every fucking generation says it. This was actively happening in Chicago in the sixties. I'd argue many of those problems were worse. We just find a way to make our problems new and different. When it's really all bullshit.

I mean what is there to really say about the whole thing? Looks to me like that cop needs to go to prison for a long time. The worst part of that video is when you can see the concrete kick up from yet another shot like FOURTEEN seconds after the kid was first shot and fell down. 14 seconds later as he was already laying there dying. I mean I'm sure they all had tasers. There were like at least 6-10 cops around as backup. Not to mention the kid was actually walking AWAY from them. So ya, it was about 16 shots too excessive for me.
All that said, it would be nice if people weren't tripping the fuck out and walking down the road with a damn knife in their hand. That's never gonna end well. Especially when you're surrounded and still won't drop the weapon. So a part of me wonders if it was "Suicide by cop" or whatever it's called. Where the person's intention is to actually die at the end of the confrontation. But even if it wasn't a suicide thing, then at some point a guy that is tripping out and walking down the road with a knife like a fucking lunatic does indeed need to be neutralized at some point if he isn't going to surrender. It did not appear that he was going to surrender. However as I said before, it would seem as though the taser method would've been best in that situation.

As far as the other stuff I agree with Spike Lee.
While promoting his new film Chi-Raq, a satirical take on the gang violence in Chicago, Spike Lee told CNN’s Anderson Cooper that he’s “all for Black Lives Matter,” but “we as a people can’t be blind to” black-on-black crime.
“We cannot be out there” protesting purported police violence “and then when it comes to young brothers killing themselves, then mums the word. No one’s saying nothing? It’s got to be both ends,” Lee said.
Indeed, the drug-fueled turf wars between rival gangs is crippling Chicago. There have been more than 2,558 people shot so far this year with 378 of them killed by gunfire. The total homicide count, so far, is more than 428.
Among the slain was nine-year-old Tyshawn Lee who was allegedly lured into an alley and executed. His murder was allegedly perpetrated to send a message aimed at his gang-banging father.
“New York City has three times the population of Chicago, but Chicago has more homicides. This is the spot, Ground Zero,” Lee said.
The violence is so bad that Comcast is now canceling appointments in some areas of Chicago because the risk is to high.
Spike Lee said Black Lives Matter should focus on police brutality, “but you can’t ignore that we are killing ourselves, too. We can’t ignore that.”

It did not appear that he was going to surrender. However as I said before, it would seem as though the taser method would've been best in that situation. I'd only use a taser knowing I had a fair amount of backup. I'd also hope I could stop a guy walking away from me on PCP with two shots, preferably to the legs. If he was coming at me, all bets are off. Luckily I've never been in that situation, but I've also never had the clear want to drop multiple clips into someone. I get the feeling someone in this scenario did. A clear path for this to not happen is to avoid taking PCP and allegedly break into vehicles. But this is just so much larger, and we can use situations like this to fix institutional issues.

I mean the initial police who responded did not have a taser so they called for backup that had a taser.
The real story that will be ignored in the rhetoric and nonsense is the fact that it took over a year for charges to be brought against this cop.

I was just in the garage um fixing things and the thought occurred to me is that I suppose it could be argued that the guy could turn and throw that knife into your throat in under 2 seconds if he had that type of skill. Or even dumb luck. Chances of that are quite minimal but if it happened, it would be the officer that was laying dead not us as we sit here and speculate what he should've done. Maybe if you don't put the officer in that position then none of this happens.
All that said, that or those extra shots at 14 seconds in really tip the scales for me.

I don't understand why protesters try to block people from shopping. Makes no sense. To try and hurt the city economically. Which hurts Rahm and the City Council. The downside is that it turns everyday people away from your valid cause for protesting.

Worst I heard was a fight outside of a Banana Republic. Not sure if it was between potential shopper being blocked from entering store by protesters.

I don't feel like this is accomplishing much. You are not really affecting the people you want to affect and you are pissing lots of people off who are here nor there on the issue. You are turning any sympathy they may have for the situation that did not directly affect them and angering them by doing something that is directly affecting them. Same with the traffic blocking from last year. Having JJ involved with this even further damages it.
You have a valid reason to be upset with this shooting death but pissing off everyday people is not the way to effectively get your message out and have people actually listen to it.

Right.
Reasonable people don't look at this and think "Keep up the good fight."
They think "Quit being an asshole."

I absolutely believe in the cause, and that's why I haven't been receptive to some of the "hilarious" jokes. But what are you accomplishing by destroying a Christmas tree and blocking State Street? You're doing exactly what Kesha stated. Upsetting everyone, even people that might be behind you. I'm usually in the minority when I discuss that side of sensitive issues. It was difficult to defend certain points tonight. You just sound dumb. The strategy is horrible.
