I fell asleep after the Hollywood Blondes match. I was abandoned.

If I'm around, I'll join in. Ironically I just watched this PPV a few weeks ago on the Network. I was in a WCW 93 kick. You're really living the gimmick there. Hopefully Butler can stop walking people here. It all started when I listened to Arn Anderson's theme on YouTube. Fell into a rabbit hole & ended up with the Horseman vs The Hollywood Blondes.
Best decision I made. Sure I had to weed through some serious shit like Erik Watts & Van Hammer matches, but you take the good with the fucking terrible. That's the saying, right?

I know it's not Saturday, but I watched the 2002 Royal Rumble tonight.
Spike/Tazz vs Dudleys - Short match, highlight was Stacy in her Dudley gear. Man she was a smoke show. Torrie was my #1 favorite out of Trish, Stacy, Lita & her, but damn, Stacy was great this night. Pervy King comments in full effect on commentary.
Regal/Edge - Not nearly as good as you'd expect. Thought I liked this match more than I did. It didn't hold up really. I'll have to watch their other 2 matches from December & February to see if any of those are better.
Jazz/Trish - Trish was super hot, but she was really sloppy still in the ring. You can tell she had potential, but this was an average match. Jackie & her super boobs were the ref for some pointless reason.
Vince/Flair - Holy fuck Flair bled. He sold his ass off for Vince. It was weird seeing Reid at ringside. Bloody match, that was pretty good for what it was
Jericho/Rock - The reason I made this post. Damn this match ruled. WATCH THIS MATCH AGAIN. It's better than I remember. Heel Jericho at this time was awesome. Great match
Rumble - Forgot how loaded this was. However, minus Taker running wild early & eliminated by Maven, this was a back heavy Rumble as the first half was mid card/opener guys. Then it kicked into gear with Trips, Austin, Angle, Show, Booker, Kane, RVD, Perfect all in there at the end. It was a good culmination of the comeback story for Trips as him winning the Rumble made the most sense.
PPV as a whole still holds up. Give it a watch, at the very least for Jericho/Rock, the Rumble and Stacy Keibler's hotness.

God I hate Meltzer. The worst. Just watching some Hogan matches where Meltzer gives ring psychology and working the crowd zero credit. He's a stupid fuck. And I agree with every pro that says he plays favorites based on who talks to him. Fuck that guy. I bet he enjoys a good dick flip.

I might have had a few last night...
With that said, I stand behind it. Not asking for 5 star matches with Hogan but when I watch 1/4 star matches that are at least 2, that's just him being a total dick. Dave Meltzer and Darren Rovell are "punch them in the face" upon initially seeing them type of people.

HEY! That's my best friend you're talking about!
What matches were you watching with Hogan? I'll actually agree with you in that some of the Hogan matches in WWE were much better than Dave gave him credit for.
I re-watched Mania 3 the other day and if I was giving a Meltzer star rating for Hogan/Andre, I'd say 1.75 or 2. Then I look at what Dave gave it & it was minus 4 stars (that's the one thing I've disagreed with on his ratings, if it sucks, just say DUD, the whole minus thing is ridiculous to me). I disagree with that rating completely, as yeah it wasn't a great WRESTLING match, but there's more to it than just that. I did also watch Mania 4 with Hogan/Andre and that match was a fucking DUD though, so I can't defend that one at all. Mania 3 match blew that one out of the water.
If you defend Hogan matches from WCW though, I'm sorry, but we have to end our friendship, haha. I could name maybe 5 matches in his entire WCW run that were ok, but the rest, Hogan was barely trying & just there for the paycheck & mugging for the camera for magazines & press.
Also Dave said he thinks the dick flip is incredibly stupid, so you agree with him in that.

I've actually enjoyed more than a handful of Hogan nWo era matches. Let me be very clear though. I'm not asking for 3.5-5 star ratings. But when you see how Hogan works a crowd and the psychology of the match, you have to give credit for that. Hogan isn't Bret Hart, HBK or Benoit. I would argue that Hogan did not always cash it in and not try. Some of his 96-97 stuff is decent. From a storytelling and vignette standpoint it's pretty good. Stuff with Savage, Sting and Piper - man that feud with Piper was pretty damn good. The matches were meh. His title loss to Luger on Nitro was a pretty damn good match. Schiavonne made a great point about that loss too. Creatively this was a smart move by Hogan to agree (some say he suggested) to lose to Luger on the main event of the first 3 hour Nitro.
Agree on Mania 3. I think it's fair to say that it wasn't a technically good match by any means. I had no clue he gave it -4. He's just being a jerk there and he knows it.
I don't know why I care that much about this stuff. Mainly I guess because he is positioned as some know it all about wrestling. He's incredibly biased. He can't decide if he's an entertainment columnist or a journalist. I also think it's a very lazy narrative to shit on a Hogan.

The point of a guy is to get over with the crowd. Even nWo era Hogan did that. He drew money. 4 and 5 star matches are nice but it's a money business. If you can be a draw putting on formulaic matches that are 1 or 2 stars, you'd be insane to do anything else.

Oh I absolutely agree, Hogan wasn't a great wrestler, but an absolutely phenomenal entertainer. There's a reason he was the face of wrestling for as long as he was. I should re-phrase my original post, "Hollywood" Hogan didn't try in WCW (and if he did, it was once every 6 months). Hogan in 94-95, he was actually trying. His feud with Vader was actually pretty darn good & gets completely forgotten (during my 95 WCW kick a month ago, he had a strap match with him that I really liked a bunch).
The problem with Hogan (and WCW as a whole) was it was so ego driven that a shock moment like Luger winning on Nitro was amazing, yet Hogan won the title back 6 days later and Luger was right back to doing nothing within a month. It's ridiculous. That's a whole other discussion though.
Usually with Hogan his acting & performances could hide that he wasn't a strong wrestler, which is absolutely fine, however I don't think I've ever been as let down by a feud culminating than with Sting/Hogan in 97. If you haven't watched Starrcade 97 in a long time, DON'T. As a kid, I was so heavily invested in Hogan vs Sting being built for a year that when it finally happened, I didn't care how they got there, I just wanted Sting to finally win. I re-watched that match in the past year. Fuck, there is no redeeming quality of that match at all. Not the acting, not the story, not the wrestling, it's all shit.
I also just like busting balls when it comes to Meltzer on this board. Being his best friend, I have to stick up for the guy from time to time!

Hot takes. I don't like the dick spots, Meltzer is only useful for financial info, and Cornette sucks.

Randomone Totally agree on paragraph 2. And totally agree on Hogan-Sting. Such a wasted opportunity that they built for hell, over a year?

I could listen to Cornette all day because whether I agree with him or not, he entertains the shit out of me. He's caught himself in a spot with Foley doing the dick flip. He isn't staying consistent with his previous thoughts on anyone who does that stuff.

The Experience is a giant pile of dung. He talks about Smokey Mountain like it was 80's WWF. The territory drew shit in an area that wrestling shows could bring in 5k on a Wednesday with tar and feathers. Yet he judges the shows today that are far more entertaining and profitable. The bit is old.

Randomone Totally agree on paragraph 2. And totally agree on Hogan-Sting. Such a wasted opportunity that they built for hell, over a year? 15 months. Sting came out in black & white in October 96, said the "only thing is for sure is, nothing's for sure" promo & then he didn't wrestle or say a fucking word until Starrcade 97. Can you imagine them doing something like that these days? Vince doesn't have the patience to make a feud last 6 weeks let alone 15!
I can't listen to Cornette talk because his ramblings sound like nails on a chalkboard to me. Which, I know people can't listen to Meltzer for that very reason & I totally understand. I'll take hearing Dave go "uhhh" 87 times a show for Wrestling Observer Radio over Cornette any day. But that's just me.

Been watching Judgment Day 2000 & completely forgot Eddie vs Malenko vs Saturn happened on this show. It's awesome, albeit relatively short unfortunately.
And it's in the peak awesomeness of Latino Heat and Mamacita.

Sorry, just now saw this. I left for a bit. Watched all the matches up to the Ironman. Didn't feel like sitting through that. Plus I hate the clusterfuck of an ending to it.
Next weekend I have a wedding, but we'll figure out a time to do one. Regardless if it's a Saturday or not.

Legit suggest all of us watching an older PPV on the Network instead of a RAW some week. They're the same length.
