Maybe they're right and we're wrong. There's something to that. I'm not going to hit all of the layers, but a couple highpoints. 1) Many of the things we like don't draw money. 2) The target audience is again kids and the core, core, core audience. We think of ourselves as core. But many wouldn't go to shows if they didn't have kids. I don't spend much on WWE at all aside from my Network subscription. The CORE are the people that will travel from fucking India for Wrestlemania. They're juicing that demo for every last drop. 3) What we find as unoriginal, rarely entertaining programming on Monday and Tuesday is still live programming. As cord cutting numbers are going down, the reason many people are staying is access to live programming. Eventually the number of people cutting will rise again. But for now, something that draws the ad revenue of a PG Raw is very valuable. The positive here is there's clearly a market that isn't being served. Us. It has led to things like All In, NXT (to an extent), and podcasts. |

Yes WWE isn't for us. Outside of the attitude era, it has ALWAYS been for kids.
I don't know why I hadn't realized that until recently.

There was an interesting change of plans for one of the matches at the NXT live event in Dallas, Texas on Friday night. Chad Lail (formerly Gunner in TNA) wrestled Kassius Ohno. Lail is a heel but, for whatever reason, fans started to cheer “Chad, Chad, Chad.”
Instead of going against the crowd and sticking with the planned finish of the match, they decided to go along with the crowd. On Sunday’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about the match. He said, “In the middle of the match, all of a sudden, it just flips and Ohno starts playing the heel and loses. They actually listened to the crowd and changed everything on the fly. Ohno would have won [because] Ohno always beats Lail [at the house shows] and he lost. They changed the finish just so the crowd would be real happy.”
I know this is NXT house show news, but I'm posting it here because I find it really interesting they listened to fans and changed it midway through. Ohno typically gets cheered so I assume this won't change much in the way of TV storylines, but it's cool to see them call an audible like this. They should try listening to their fans on main roster house shows (ie Roman Reigns if he gets booed heavily). Just experiment instead of shelling out the same old shit.

Smackdown looks to be moving to FOX in Fall 2019, and will move back to Fridays. Meaning I imagine we're back to a taped show.

Cass is out with the knee injury so it's Daniel Bryan vs Jeff Hardy this week and the winner faces Samoa Joe NEXT WEEK to determine who goes to MITB.
Assume it's just storyline still and he keeps costing Bryan matches. Regardless of how much I dislike Cass, we're still getting Bryan/Hardy and either Jeff/Joe or even Bryan/Joe (which they should wait on). All those are fun matches.

Who's part of these focus groups, executive teams, or wrestling management that determined this is what people want? As we've pointed out, they must be doing some things right. But kids aren't, or shouldn't be, staying up until 11 PM on a school night. Adults get bored. Every other sport or event company is realizing less is more due to attention span. Why?

I know it's been reported at least a few days ago but didn't see it mentioned here. Io Shirai will be reporting to NXT as soon as she finishes up with STARDOM. if she stays healthy, that's yet another super strong wrestler.
Also Toni Storm has signed a UK deal with them. And she's one of the best women's wrestlers out there too.
Assume both will be used for the 2nd Mae Young Classic.
