Ok, rambling post incoming, but I'll try to touch on everything (yeah the Observer page has ads, even on my laptop, I understand your frustration)
Anna vs. Deonna was just a basic match to get the crowd into it. Problem was, it went on even earlier than your normal Zero Hour matches, so barely anyone was there!
4 Way was your spotfest highflying showcase. Komander did look great, hitting his signature moves. Buddy was super over and crowd loved he got the W.
For what it was, AJ/QT accomplished it. One of the most over acts on the show and job well done to all involved, even if its not for me.
4 Way Tag Title was going well, but the stupid final minutes (Caster wanting Bowens to pin him deep into the match, the ref COUNTED, commentary said he couldn't, made everyone look dumb). Just turn The Acclaimed already. Caster has officially reached go away heat for me and I just want Bowens free from this. Go back 2 years ago and look how far The Acclaimed have fallen.
MJF/Roddy was good, that's about it. Can't wait for everyone involved in this Cole/MJF story to move on. They all need a reset and shower off this jinxed feud.
Mercedes/Stat knocked it out of the park. Arguably boths best AEW match ever. Longest women's match in AEW history and didn't even feel like 20 minutes. Loved this match.
Hangman/Switch had a different story to it than their match last month and the selling by both was great. White is the one monster Page can't slay on his own. Simple, but effective.
Ospreay/Fletcher was Match of the Night. Star making performance from Fletcher and Ospreay gave him everything to put him over. Some super scary spots, like the Tombstone off the apron onto the steps. Fletcher needs a strong showing in the CC if he's in it (should be) and should honestly win it. Don't let this Ospreay W go to waste. Capitalize.
Mina/Mariah wasn't how I thought it'd go, as I thought Toni would come back, but I guess they're saving it for World's End? It was a fun twist though and Mina/Mariah will be a good match.
Garcia/Perry was where the crowd started getting quiet and guys had to really work to get them. The match was fine, but underwhelming. Glad Garcia got the W and the crowd did pop big for the finish. He needs to go on and have a strong reign. Perry didn't need the title with The Elite story on the backburner right now.
Takeshita/Ricochet was another one that could've been on TV not here. They were fine, second half was very good, but 9 times out of 10, they'd have a better match. Zero clue where either go from here, which is an issue for a lot of guys. I assume CC for both.
Lashley/Swerve was about as big of a dominating showing one could have without being a total squash. Lashley needed to look strong and he did, while still giving Swerve his hope spots. Again, I assume this feud continues, but Swerve obviously needs help because this didn't make me want to see another singles match with the two right away.
Orange/Mox had a different feel than the rest of the show. The crowd, despite knowing Mox was probably taking it, felt emotionally invested in Orange, who did a great job getting his ass kicked by the monster. Of course they had shenanigans at the end with DeathRiders popping up, but Willow's return finally giving Marina her comeuppance was a huge pop. The post match was way too much and overkill to the point where Yuta & Mox poured "chemicals" onto Orange and it was pretty much forgotten about 30 seconds later because of all the Christian/Hangman/Switchblade teasing/preventing cash-in of the AEW title shot thing. However, I thought the Darby demolition derby at the end was fucking great. He needs to get some wins before getting a title shot though, especially after Claudio murdered him on Wednesday, which makes that quizzical now in hindsight. Is this leading to Mox vs. Switch vs. Cage vs. Page at World's End? Maybe? I guess with so many involved in the CC, they'll need stories for those not in it.
I'd give the show an overall B. Many of the matches were great, as expected, but was left wondering after many of the matches "where are they going from here?" and not "oh, cool THAT's where they're going from here." I think the CC starting this week has a lot to do with that.
