Sometimes, we just really suck. We are slow. We get in other people's way because we are so freaking slow. We drop shit. Fall down. Stumble and bumble even without alcohol.
Right now I'm on the blue hair express to Fort Myers. I'm one of the youngest people on the plane. Some of these folks took so long to find their seat and stow their bags, you would think they were mentally disabled. Maybe they are.
At least they are too old to understand how to put their seats back. So I have that going for me. Which is nice.
But I see my future and it ain't pretty. I know I suck and as retirement looms in a few years, I'll probably get worse. And there probably isn't much I'm going to be able to do about it.

What kind of people retire in the South of France and the California coast? That's where you will find me in about 5 years.

Ha. Hardly. When you look at what it costs to live in Chicago, then figure the smaller house you will need in your retirement years, the fact you won't be working and have lower income taxes and the grossly high property taxes in Cook County, places you think are out of reach actually are not. Do you get less house in these places than you do in Chicago? Sure. But better lifestyle and lower operating costs (especially property taxes) make those better deals than Chicago in my opinion.

Senior citizens, although slow and dangerous behind the wheel, can still serve a purpose. I'll be right back. Don't you go dying on me. I don't know if air travel efficiency is the best grade of people advancing in age. I know young people that can't figure that shit out. I used to travel for work all the time. I got to the point where nothing in the travel process could phase me. When I started traveling twice per year, it was amateur hour. I can't even imagine what it would be like boarding a plane with my parents. I think you're going to have a smooth transition.
