A Montana lawmaker wants to put the kibosh on wearing yoga pants and Speedos in public, decrying that they reveal too much human anatomy to sensitive eyes.
State Rep. David Moore introduced a bill into the House Judiciary Committee Tuesday that seeks to do just that. House Bill 365 would wrestle the state’s indecent exposure law into the Draconian age.
From the Billings Gazette:
“The proposal would expand indecent exposure law to include any nipple exposure, including men’s, and any garment that ‘gives the appearance or simulates’ a person’s buttocks, genitals, pelvic area or female nipple.
“The Republican from Missoula said tight-fitting beige clothing could be considered indecent exposure under his proposal.
“‘Yoga pants should be illegal in public anyway,’ Moore said after the hearing.”
Moore said that he’d have no issue with people getting arrested for their clothing, but that police would have to use their discretion.
Moore was inspired to draft the bill after a nude and partially-nude bicyclists rode through the streets of Missoula as part of the “Bare as you Dare” group bike ride. City officials granted the cyclists a permit believing they’d be in violation of free speech laws if they didn’t. A Supreme Court precedent dictates that nudity is not covered under free speech.
Just a few months ago last December, the Montana legislature passed a bill that told women they “should be sensitive to skirt lengths and necklines.”
Someone convicted of indecent exposure three times could be sentenced to life in prison and receive a fine of up to $10,000.national.suntimes.com/national-world-news/us-news/7/72/629140/montana-lawmaker-ban-yoga-pants
