While this is bullshit and not the writing style of the President, this is what "Democrats" should have pushed for with Republicans holding everything. Suggest we actually stop the trend. If we can't, it's their fault. If properly promoted, it would have so much traction. Have a focus. A purpose. A path forward. Not Trump Trump Trump Trump Trump. Bunch of damn victims.

It's way to early to judge the political climate for 2020. Will Trump even run again? Will the Republican Party nominate him? Will the economy dip into recession by then which seems likely since we're already in the second longest expansion in U.S. History.
I know the 2018 elections look very dire for the Republicans right now. But November is a long ways away, and if the economy and unemployment) keep trending positively, and people like their cuts (new IRS withholding tables just released), it could surprise some people the other way.
Politics is a game that changes weekly. Plus Trump/Biden/Sanders are all very old.....just saying.

I am a massive advocate for Free Trade, so I would never argue in favor of tariffs. However, it was two domestic solar companies, Sunvia and SolarWorld, that pressed the case for the tariffs due to unfair (dumping) allegations against Chinese producers. These producers are accused of selling at below cost to grab market share and/or have government support that makes their trade practices unfair.
That is the basis for the solar tariffs. Of course the installers are pissed because they know the tariffs will reduce the demand for their services. It's always a tangled web when you talk about Free Trade or subsidies.

Tried, can't watch the State of the Union. He's a smug cocksucker & watching Paul Ryan's shithead smirk the entire time is where I turn the channel.
I'd honestly be watching if anyone but him was giving the speech.
That shows you just how much I hate Trump, he actually made me turn over & watch a Baron Corbin match.

I am a huge believer in the Bill of Rights and that includes the 2nd Amendment even though I don't own a gun. Obviously there has to be a line between what can be legally owned and not.
In any case, i will make this general comment- the more freedom and liberty we allow our populace, the more crime and bad behavior that will occur. Unfortunately as a species we have enough bad people that there are always going to horrible events. Now we could easily get rid of a lot of bad stuff by taking ever more extreme measures via government control- cameras in all public places, military on every corner, curfews, random pat downs, etc, etc.
My point- we have to balance freedoms and our national values against the inevitable downsides of allowing people to write nasty stuff about one another or drinking alcohol to excess or having restrictions put on police work and on and on. I always lean towards more freedoms.

I'm good with the 2nd Amendment but I just don't think our forefathers ever had bump stocks and assault rifles in mind at the time. Get rid of those, enact some common sense legislation as far as background checks, age, mental health, waiting periods etc..... and I'll be very comfortable with it at that point.

Have we as Americans demonstrated that we deserve the freedoms we have?
I'd argue that we haven't.

I sure hate to impute the actions of a few, especially those with mental health issues, to the broader populace. But to some degree you are correct, we don't deserve them. And it is really a cultural problem, IMHO, because instead of teaching values to our children like respect for others, self control, fiscal responsibility, hard work, etc, we teach our kids that every societal ill is someone else's fault. It is as simple as parents complaining to teachers that they give too much homework or that the material is too difficult. From a young age, we teach our children many bad habits.

Trump wants teachers to have guns. I know he's a soulless heartless robot, but even he knows that's not the answer. He tweeted when he was on the campaign that he didn't want that, but he changed his mind because he doesn't want his NRA buddies to lose.
Seeing the picture of him talking to students/parents today with talking points on the piece of paper saying "5. I Hear You" was so sad. He's a puppet, nothing more nothing less.
Woodridge can probably back me up on this one, I'd be even more scared if certain teachers at my old high school were packing guns to protect us than if they weren't!
To me it's a major gun issue & mental health issue. People want it to be one or the other & it's both, at least to me it is.
Very interesting to see how many people get the ol' boot come elections.

There was a good opinion piece in the WSJ yesterday that tried to point out the facets of gun crime. First off, it said empirical studies showed that the guns used in crimes are illegal in 89-93% of crimes. So it is rarely about the criminal using a legally purchased gun. The writer agreed that we have to figure out how to keep guns away from people with mental health issues. It also noted that gun crime is down 50% over the past few decades despite a massive increase in the numbers of guns floating around society.
I guess if you were starting this country all over and writing a new Constitution, you would change the 2nd Amendment. But my problem with that is, there are folks that also despise elements of free speech and due process, and once you start opening up the Bill of Rights to changes, it is a slippery slope.
With the 2nd Amendment we need to find a better balance.....and culturally, my goodness, what causes anyone to do such horrific things?

A couple disjointed thoughts.
I didn't trust some of my High School teachers to be providing correct curriculum, let alone be an amazing shot or defend my life. That will always be a horrible idea. If a proposal that made sense was put in front of me, I would not be opposed to an armed guard per number of students at schools. That could be a compromise, but even that worries me. There's no turning back to a time when we WON'T have armed guards at schools.
The left is again coming at this wrong in many ways. What happens whenever you tell someone you're going to take something away? Or change something? They're going to fight it. They might even know it's for the best, but they still want their bah bah. There are some segments of gun owners you'll never be able to speak to. But it's time to flip the rational humans and make it their idea. Not the scary shared plate eating, Portland loving, probably not all white liberal.
I'd think another compromise could be acknowledging on every level this has to do with mental health. But it won't. Could you imagine politicians on both sides having to end their contributions from Big Pharma AND Guns? Plus increase spending for mental health services? All of that commonsense thinking would make our system explode.
So many layers to this problem.

Arming teachers is just plain dumb. Both sides, left and right, are so entrenched in their positions that national consensus and compromise are very tough. I struggle on this issue because of my fervent belief in the Bill of Rights against the fact that I have never and will never own a gun. I shot a gun once recently at a corporate outing and got zero enjoyment out of it.

I just still don't get the AR-15 thing. If you need one to hunt, you're an incredibly shitty hunter. If you need it for a hobby like target practice, get a new hobby. Lawn darts were outlawed. People found new hobbies.

If you need to use swear words, then you’re a pretty shitty comedian (see what I did there)? If the police need a warrant to search your house, then you have something to hide. Be careful with the logic you use to take away Constitutional Rights. It can be applied to other situations. In this case, it is reasonable to ask where the line is on what one can and cannot own via the 2nd Amendment.
