Since I just finished s12 of Supernatural, I figured I have some time to watch some old-school wrestling.
We journey back to May of 1997....

Introduction to the foreign language tables. Flash Funk vs Hunter Hearst Hemsley w/ Chyna

Would have loved to see a Chyna vs Raquel Gonzalez/Rhea Ripley/Charlotte match.
2 Cold Scorpio was ahead of his time; he would have fit in with today's high-flying style.

Solid opening match. Really showed how good Triple H was technically before he got too jacked.

Shamrock was sooo robotic on his early promos.

Loved the heel Mankind music. Rocky Maiva promo before facing Mankind; looked very uncomfortable doing a promo as a whitemeat babyface. WWE really needs to let some of these current wrestlers do promos naturally; give them bullet points and find out if they can adapt.

No response to Rocky's moves and even a smattering of boos.

Finisher was Rocky hitting a cross-body splash that Mankind turned into a Manible Claw; Mankind wins by submission.

Bad show but definitely nostalgic for me. The WWF was slowly starting to figure it out. Creatively they were already ahead of WCW but the ratings hadn't caught up.

Ahmed in a gauntlet match against the NOD. Ahmed was a powerhouse...then the bell rang.

Biggest reason I wanted to see this show was that many of the wrestlers were in that "infant stage" before breaking out into the Attitude Era. Its all about enjoying the journey.

Pretty boring match so far. Ahmed beats Crush, then Savio gets DQ'd on purpose to soften up Ahmed for Farooq who has a "separated shoulder"

Farooq hits the Pearl River Plunge to and pins Ahmed, preventing the NOD from being disbanded. Match got way better with Farooq in there.

Decent match considering who was in the match. Shamrock makes Vader tap.
Austin promo on the Hart Foundation and facing Taker tonight.

Huge pop when Austin went after the Hart Foundation, who were sitting in the front row.

Some good stiff shots in this match. Shamrock legit busted Vader up. Broke his nose in four places. Vader gave him some receipts though. They really beat the shit out of each other.

Very good match when you add the involvement of the Hart Foundation.

Pillman was so good as a heel; imagine if he had lived, the matches he and Austin could have had in 1998.

Bret in a wheelchair is one of my favorite versions of his character. Jericho in a wheelchair could be the next great use of the wheelchair gimmick. I hope we can still do it in 2021. He's also not far off from it being a shoot if he keeps doing the lionsault.
