I don't believe parents should lay their hands on their kids, but I know some parents believe in it. I'm not going to judge them or that form of discipline. But what we are talking about with Adrian Peterson is not that -- what some might consider normal child discipline. The Peterson kid was badly bruised and injured from repeated whacks. Now we have people like Ditka and Ray Lewis saying their discipline as a child made them better people. I would suggest that the overall parenting they got was the major factor in their lives, not the physical discipline per se. But I don't know that, just speculating. But I'm not speculating on this: the fact that people like Ditka, Ray Lewis and others don't understand the difference between basic corporal punishment/discipline and criminal child abuse is pathetic.

Watching those two made me sick. You have a murderer and a knucklehead advocating it - ESPN is a joke for even allowing those two on the air. Cris Carter is the only one who made any sense in that whole exchange.

ESPN is the same network that used to have a drug criminal(Michael Irvin) on that show. They replaced him with a murderer. ESPN is owned by Disney -- the brand for kids. This is the same network that also holds its annual cancer fundraiser in honor of a deceased coach who was fired for cheating/recruiting basketball players who had no academic interest and no business being in college. The Disney suits must be so proud.

I never laid a hand on Score Jr but as I mentioned in some other thread, I was paddled both at home and at school. Very sparingly though. There was the one time at school and about 3 times at home. I would clearly say that I had it coming. Looking back, I'd say a thick wooden paddle is a bit much but it was effective.
Without giving it a ton of thought, I'd say a hand spanking on the butt is perfectly acceptable in my world. Not a beatdown mind you but one or two spanks. Though that would be an absolute last choice after trying everything else.

I'm not going to provide a court reporter recap of the interview, but Charles Barkley was just saying some stunningly dumb things on The Dan Patrick Show. I love Barkley, so I just wanted it to stop. Basically, if you were beaten as a kid, that's how you're going to parent. Also, it's the media's fault. Ugh. They will post the interview soon. Listen if you want.

Good to see the Vikings condone beating the shit out of your kids. Classy organization. The NFL is about nothing but the bottom line. Anything else is for public relations. They have to get their big back out there to pay for their new church made of stained purple glass.

Add Rick Spielman and the Vikings ownership as clueless. Forget the NFL and the Vikings for a minute and consider this. If you are a public figure for a company, especially a major company, and you do something really wrong -- regardless of whether it is against the law or you are convicted --your employer can fire you. An employer has the right to set their own rules and to choose who they want representing them in the public sphere. It's part of the deal. I can tell you with 100% certainty that if that was me who beat his kid like that, I would have been fired. No question. Why is it the sports leagues don't get this basic fact of life in a high profile job? Hiding behind "waiting for the legal process" means one simple thing. This is a company that is utterly without integrity or values. Right thinking people in Minnesota surely won't stand for this kind of leadership from their football team.
