Joey Janela is the 13th entrant
Unless PWG has some sort of working agreement with AEW (I don't think so), this will be the last time some of these guys will be in PWG

How many shows a year does PWG do? I don't understand how they're so prominent.

|
Post by randomone on Aug 2, 2019 22:22:38 GMT -6
Between 10-11 shows per year. They usually do an All Star Weekend that's 2 nights and BOLA which is 3, then do single shows aside from those.
It sells out immediately due to the caliber of independent wrestlers they're able to book and they have a long track record of being pretty much a place to get guys noticed on a bigger scale. Not to mention almost always their shows deliver.
Over these past few years I'd say it's taken a big hit in terms of star power, but it's also allowed guys who might not have gotten a chance otherwise to shine.

Owens, Zayn, Cole, Gargano, Ciampa, Gulak, Busick, Roddy, OReilly, Fish, Candice, Riddle, Trevor Lee, ACH, Jonah Rock, Hero, Nese, Dijak, Keith Lee, Pete Dunne, WALTER, Mark Andrews, AJ Styles, Karl Anderson, Cedric Alexander, Cesaro, Curt Hawkins, Drew McIntyre, War Raiders, Kalisto, Lio Rush, Ricochet, Samoa Joe, Seth Rollins, Aleister Black, Apollo, Tozawa, Kendrick
All of those names have worked multiple shows for them. Some were mainstays for years.
And that's just WWE/NXT people. That's not even counting AEW or elsewhere.

So ExCalibur is a founding and huge part of PWG?

|
Post by randomone on Aug 11, 2019 21:56:30 GMT -6
Yeah he, Joey Ryan, Super Dragon, Disco Machine, Scott Lost & Top Gun Talwar are the PWG6, who really got everything together.
He & Super Dragon are the owners. Super Dragon books the talent, although I'm sure Excalibur helps with that too.

Does PWG do PPV's or just perform for the arena crowd? DVDs and Blu Rays primarily. Also Highspots Wrestling Network for streaming past shows that are updated within a few months. Nothing live.

I'd like to see some sort of partnership between AEW, PWG & TNT. Or at least between PWG & TNT. Would be cool to see BOLA and some other events on weekend TNT. It's interesting that ExCalibur is involved in both.

So many people who have wrestled in PWG have been recruited by WWE (they usually send Regal there to scout talent from time to time, at least they did from 2013-2017 or so) that AEW will no doubt do the same. They have already with Jungle Boy, Janela, Darby, Dark Order, Best Friends, etc.
I just hope Excalibur continues to do commentary once AEW starts up. He's done PWG commentary since they started doing it for the DVDs and that's how he became so good. I wouldn't see why he couldn't.
It'll be interesting to see who can work for PWG and who can't once AEW begins.

BOLA 19 kicked off last night.
Lucha Bros beat Bandito and Flamita in the Main Event and the other tag match with Joey Janella and Alex Zayne beating Blake Christian and Tony Deppan was said to be outstanding as well.
Winners from BOLA matches were Jeff Cobb, Darby Allin, Brody King, A-Kid, Dragon Lee, and Jonathan Gresham.

Joey Janela, Jake Atlas, Rey Fenix, Bandido, Pentagon & David Starr all advanced to the next round of BOLA.
Apparently David Starr vs Orange Cassidy went 19:00, which even Meltzer said went way too long (I agree). Also Dave said that Jungle Boy vs Jake Atlas was Jungle Boy's best match he's ever seen. I'm happy the dude is constantly improving.
