BEAT THE BOOK, 2015-16 EDITION Beat The Book is back for season 2 and our defending champion, Piglet, is ready to embarrass the adults again this year. This is your opportunity to show your greatness at picking winners against the point spread. The rules are essentially what you would find if you were betting in Vegas. You make plays at the prevailing current lines.
THE SEASON The season-long contest will run from the first college football game on Sept. 3 through the NFL Conference championships on January 24. It will include all lined college bowl games. During the season, most of our plays will be for 1 unit. You will be able to make up to 10 plays for two units and up to 3 plays for three units. New this year also: you may bet one game during the season for 5 units. (This could make the last week interesting if contenders save their five banger for the last week).
DETERMINING THE LINE You may bet the favorite or underdog with the point spread or the over/under. The line you get at the time you bet will be the latest line posted on the thread. I will update the lines on the thread periodically during the week. Note: Not all games or possible bets may be available every week. The first lines for Week 0 of the college season will be posted Monday, August 31.
For score-keeping simplicity, please do not edit a post once you have posted your picks. Every new update you make must be a new post. This will be necessary this year because there will be deadlines for picks and I can’t police people who go back into their threads to update records, note Ws and Ls, add plays, etc.
PRIZES There will be a weekly prize of $25 each week of the 17 weeks of the NFL regular season ending Jan. 3. (There will be college football games, including bowl games in those weeks). The weekly prize will go to the person with the highest profit for the week who picks at least 6 games in a week and also beats my profit for that week. You may pick as many games as you like. Each week, I will make at least 6 plays, as well, but most weeks, I likely will make more than that. My plays will be posted at or right after games kick off that I have selected. If more than one player ties for a week for highest profit, then nobody will get paid that week. Tying for first in a week will get you a nice attaboy, but no cash.
For a pick to count, it must be submitted by these times: Weeknight games: 5 pm Central time. Saturday & Sunday games: 10 am Central time. All picks must be posted on the thread by these times. Late picks will not count for anything.
All picks for games after Jan. 3 will need to be made in accordance with the same deadline times, but there won’t be weekly prizes. There will be a season prize of $200 for the person with the highest profit for the season, who picks at least 50 games during the season. You need not participate or qualify with 6 picks every week to contend for the season prize.
All prize money will be sent out after the NFL Conference Championship games in late January.

It begins.....
Loved this contest Coast. I'm ready for round 2.
Quick clarification, last year I bet on the same game twice since the line moved. Last year you noted you never officially commented on that practice and allowed it. Can you make a ruling this year so there's no gray area.

You may make the same play more than once if the line moves and the line is different from your previous bets. I consider this similar to real betting. You can make a max bet at most sports books and then are allowed to bet again if the line moves. So you can bet multiple times on the same game, if you wish, as long as the line you bet is different from your previous bets. It's a clever strategy used by many pros and could be useful in putting more units into one game you really like. You also may bet the other side of games at different numbers and set up possible middles -- just like real betting.

Ok I admit I had a bit of an off year last season. A couple of my algorithms got a little out of whack and threw the whole model off. At least I feel good that Coast was able to up and move to some luxurious mansion thingie, Kirkwoodref was able to travel Europe for pretty much the whole summer and jackref inexplicably bought the Appalachian Mountains with his winnings. But as evidenced by Kirkwood's Bowl contest that I completely dominated, I'm back. Back in the Beat The Book Groove. #DontFadeMe

Awesome KS. You should feel good about yourself. I want you to pick with total confidence. Short term variance. That's all it was last year. You go dude!
(This year, I'm hoping to bank enough for an island.)

Why do I think you kinda look like that? I look like a combination of 1978 somewhat short haired Tommy Shaw, Mark Hammill and maybe a touch of Mick Jagger.
