Despite Haugh, Kap and Haugh had pretty much become my favorite sports radio show. I'll be interested to see where this goes. I used to listen to overnights with Kaplan and Jim Kozimor as a yut. Full circle.
Longtime WGN-AM 720 sports host David Kaplan is leaving the station to join rival ESPN-owned WMVP-AM 1000, according to sources familiar with the situation.
Kaplan, who started at WGN Radio in 1995, agreed to a multi-year deal to stay with the station in December 2013. But his duties, and the station's direction, shifted this year with the loss of Cubs games and the demise of The Game, WGN's ill-fated one-year foray into FM sports talk radio.
The "Kap & Haugh" show, which aired 9 a.m. to noon on 87.7 FM, continued to run online and on Comcast SportsNet Chicago after Weigel Broadcasting took over the frequency to launch an oldies station in February. But the downsizing of sports on WGN opened the door for an early release from his contract, sources said.
Kaplan's departure follows the exit of Bob Sirott and Marianne Murciano, who are ending their two-year run as midday hosts on WGN-AM 720 on Friday. The station is filling the husband-and-wife team's noon-3 p.m. slot by extending the Bill Leff and Wendy Snyder late-morning show into afternoon.
Todd Manley, vice president of content and programming at Tribune Media's WGN Radio, said Wednesday that the station was eliminating Sirott and Murciano's show as "a matter of resources."
WGN Radio had broadcast Cubs baseball for most of its 90-year history but lost the rights when the team signed a long-term deal with CBS Radio last year.
WGN has a 3.7 share, tied for fifth with iHeartMedia's WGCI-FM 107.5 among Chicago listeners in August, according to Nielsen. WBBM-AM 780, which added the Cubs games to its news programming, is ranked third with a 4.6 share.
Kaplan's new station, ESPN 1000, is ranked 25th with a 1.4 share, according to Nielsen.

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.
I love watching some Kap and Haugh on tv in the morning.
I have never had nor will I have any interest in listening to am 1000. Why the hell didn't Mitch's dumb ass go and get him? With the Cubs coming in next year it would have been GLORIOUS. Kap and Bernstein on a show would be gold. Hell Kap and anyone would have been awesome. He would have instantly become the 2nd best guy there behind Bernstein and its arguable that he is better as he doesn't berate anyone other than Matt Forte. god dammit mitch you lazy fuck.

I don't think Bernstein had any interest in same station competition. I was also enjoying a steady diet of Kap and Haugh, Dan Patrick, and MLB Central when I worked from home in the morning. I heard about the new issues at WGN a couple weeks ago, so I prepped for the end of the run. I hope he's still doing Sports Talk Live. What a clown college at WGN. I never listened, but that station went from number one to a laughingstock pretty fast.

Wow. Kap and Waddle reunion imminent. Silvy and Carmen reunion imminent. I'm not sure. I don't think Kaplan wants to give up the other gigs. If they went to the afternoon drive, that would have to happen.

Kap and Waddle in the Carmen and Jurko shift.
Silvy and Carmen in the Waddle and Silvy shift.
Jurk as either a third man (IS HE THE THIRD MAN??!) or as a football expert.

But that was years ago. I don't know if Carmen can hold the afternoon drive slot. The current lineup will end up defeating the current Score.

Silvy would drive like he does now. I like Carmen and I can't really figure out why except he seems like a good dude and doesn't come across as a raging dickbag.

He's perhaps a little too vanilla. But I'd prefer that to screaming nonsense. Keep in mind, my radio suggestions usually aren't what I'd prefer. Rather what will actually draw ratings for the masses of dumb. I couldn't listen when The Score was in the mid-90's greatness people reference. Whenever I turned over, it sounded like middle-aged men screaming and making noises. Not Funny Terry noises. Just noises. I was a WMVP guy because there was some substance.

I have never been a WMVP guy. I don't like the ESPN affiliation even though it really doesn't make it boo ya central like it could. I think I heard Harry's voice and that shit is an immediate PTFB and never push it again......ever. Harry...Farrell....all those guys that have that voice. Its just so hard to drown it out.

Like everything, the past always seems great. I just realized I enjoyed a weekend show with Steve F'ing Lyons. Kaplan, Lance McAllister, and Kozimor were my favorite hosts at the time.

I used to always listen to a show that I don't remember....don't know who the hosts were and don't know when it was on. I want to say it was on after bulls games in the championship era. It had Joniak on it and 2 other guys....maybe a chris cross?? I was like 10 years old but I would listen to that and fall asleep.

I've noticed my sports radio consumption has decreased exponentially.
I don't think any program can snag me back in. The explosion of genre specific podcasts has really dented my interest in WMVP/WSCR. I tune for Mully and Hanley between 5-7ish and maybe bounce a in 'n out a segment for S&G or B&B.
I'm mostly tuning in for guests these days. Biggs, Kasper, Florio etc.

I didn't start again full blast until a friend told me about The Tony Kornheiser Show, and a couple chuckle fucks on The Score. Around 2003. Burns and Borstine. Something like that.

How can you listen to Mully interview shitty white sox coaches like coop every other morning and scream for no reason at all!!!
I will listen to all 3 shows out of The Fan in Milwaukee and I will listen to Grimace and Goff (which I actually enjoy...somehow it works) and B&B. If its M&H time I will turn on 89.1 and hope the kids at North Central are in a face melting mood that morning.

Mully and Hanley is well a produced show. Yes, interviews are a struggle sometimes but it's always moving. I like that.
I'm going to be really bummed that this will be the first season without Big Doug. Such a great segment.

Dammit.....the Coop interviews make the entire show tarnished....tarnished with a stench and stain that can not be lifted for decades. The best part is that he apparently fucking hates them and hates doing it. Why the hell are you doing it then!!!
