I only know of his song "Purple Rain" and didn't like it. A lot of people treating this as a huge deal.
I guess he was a big deal one time.

Yeah I'm in the camp of thinking he's one of the best of all time. Fuckin amazing entertainer. Purple Rain, Let's Go Crazy, Raspberry Beret, Little Red Corvette, 1999, When Doves Cry, Kiss, even Batdance was rad when it came out.
I wasn't a die hard fan, but I have cds & my ipod has a ton of his albums. This one is really heartbreaking.
Oddly enough, last week he had to make an emergency stop in Moline Illinois (my hometown area) late at night & had to be treated at the hospital here. Was here for a few hours & got cleared and went home.

He was an amazing artist that could play any instrument and I believe he did on his first album.
