One of the best angles and stables EVAH was formed. White hot heat for the nWo. Damn that was 20 years ago. I'm old.

Unknown to me at the time, that is the very angle that got me back into wrestling. I had been away from it for about 10 years or so when a buddy called and said "You gotta see this". Pretty much been watching ever since.

Let's also not forget that also on this show was Steve McMichael vs Joe Gomez. I know that means nothing, I just needed to point out that was an actual PPV match in WCW in 1996.
But seriously, watching this as a kid, I was in awe. You never thought something like that would happen. Looking back on it, I can't stand Hogan, but this will be in the Top 3 moments in wrestling history IMO.

On the flip side of all this, 20 years later and Eric Bischoff is insufferable on Twitter.

I stopped following him. I did however, just order a shoot interview with Bischoff from Highspots in their 4th of July sale. 5 hour shoot interview. Should be good.
Look at the rest of the card from this Bash at the Beach. Your typical 75% of the show sucks & are practically Nitro matches, while the other 25% wasn't too bad.
Rey Mysterio vs Psicosis John Tenta vs Big Bubba in a Carson City Silver Dollar Match DDP vs Jim Duggan Nasty Boys vs Public Enemy Double Dog Collar Match Dean Malenko vs Disco Inferno Steve McMichael vs Joe Gomez Ric Flair vs Konnan Giant & Taskmaster vs Benoit & Anderson Outsiders & Hogan vs Savage, Sting & Luger

Bischoff reminds me of most people with really strong political views. I love the passion, but it always ends up in misguided directions.

I probably wouldn't have continued my wrestling fandom without this PPV. I was about to enter Freshman year of college. I didn't even watch or hear what happened until Nitro came on. I was only half watching when they said Hogan had sold his soul, etc. I was following the Nash/Hall stuff, but I just had more important things going on. This changed everything. Hell, I probably would have been ashamed to be caught watching wrestling in college without the NWO. Two years later I was dressed as Mankind and drunkenly leaping off things to land the big elbow. Yes, it hurt.

I'm a huge Hulk Hogan mark, and I understand all the baggage that goes with that. I just happened to be watching this pay per view at a friends house. I wasn't even watch wrestling at this time all that much except a couple times when I heard about the outsiders. When Hogan came out and did that. All kinds of emotions. I just remember going ape shit. As Dave said, nWo made wrestling cool again.
I also love Eric Bischoff and every interview he ever does. He is a fantastic storyteller. I have no idea about his political views but I'm going to assume extreme libertarian...so I'd probably agree with a lot of not. Just not the batshit crazy stuff.

On the flip side of all this, 20 years later and Eric Bischoff is insufferable on Twitter. How so? Drop In probably said it best a couple posts up. I follow (should say followed as I went the randomone route this afternoon) him for his wrestling prowess. Which over time just became more and more political. I don't mind following those that shoot down the middle of the political spectrum but I'm not crazy about following those who lean way to strongly in one direction or the other. So I guess it's pretty much my fault for continuing to follow him up until today but I fixed that now. I figure if he says something wrestling related that's interesting that I'll just see it in a retweet anyways.

One of the absolute best. For the record he's an extreme conservative.

I just watched the Timeline 1994 WCW with Bischoff the other day for Kayfabe Commentaries. This was the year when he got the keys to the kingdom so to speak & Hogan signed with the company. Bischoff said that with Hogan signing, certain guys he wanted to come over with him & give them shots. Which explains why guys like Honky Tonk Man, Jim Duggan & Beefcake got runs in 94. Bischoff pretty much groaned that Hogan vs Beefcake was actually a main event of a Starrcade & also he said how he got so much pleasure in firing Honky Tonk Man to his face because Honky wouldn't lose to Johnny B. Badd.
He mentioned how if you were fired from WCW it had to be done via FedEx but he regrets not talking to Austin about it in 95. Also he said had Steamboat not gotten had a career ending back injury, he would've still been in WCW. Very interested to see how Ricky Steamboat would've played into WCW as a wrestler in 1996.
I could listen to Bischoff talk about his AWA days, WCW run, anything wrestling related for hours. So I hope once my shoot interview dvd gets here that it doesn't suck!

I find Bischoff amazing. Many of the good and bad character traits I see in myself. That's probably why. But he now has this perspective that time and self-awareness can grant you. Plus, it's all about one of my favorite mindless topics that rarely gives such things.
