It's Football Time!
Each year, I shake up the rules and this year we have several rules changes. First, this contest is open to all regular posters of this board. You must have posted at least a few times each month in other parts of the board before entering this contest. If you are a "new" regular, welcome to the Board, but know that if you don't post here regularly each month, you will become ineligible to continue in this contest.
This year, this contest will be very much like real wagering. You will play with live lines and you will have to manage your bankroll. Everybody starts with $2000 in bet bucks. You can bet as little as $10 to win or as much as $500 to win on any college or NFL side or total. You can bet as many times as you want on any single side or total play, with different lines if they were in effect when you bet them, as long as the total amount you bet on a team or total does not exceed the $500 win amount. (You actually would be betting $550 to win $500 in most cases).
All lines will come from sbrodds.com. At that website, you will see the first two columns for pinnacle and bookmaker. You can use the lines from either of these books at any time, for any play. Sometimes you will get a more favorable line for your bet from one or the other. The juice matters. Sometimes the line will be -3 -110 and sometimes it might be -3 -120. When you post your play, please post the exact odds and juice and where you got it. For example, post your plays this way: Packers -3, -115 to win $30 Pinnacle. I think you all know what this means, but for those who don't, in this example, it means you are betting $34.50 to win $30 (at -115 to win $100) on the Packers -3.
Posting your plays this way will make it easier for me to track plays and be sure nobody is fudging their lines. Please post your bet with the line in effect when you post. Don't post a number that existed two hours ago. You can't bet a line that existed two hours ago, so don't do it here. Only real time lines. You can bet as early as you want (lines usually go up Sunday nights for the following week). I trust all of you guys, so don't make me check on you! If anyone wishes to bring a questionable line that was posted to my attention, I will look into it, but I don't want to have to do that. Please note that the times shown on sbrodds.com are Eastern Time zone times. So adjust accordingly and make sure you bet before your game kicks off.
Once you make a post with a play, please don't go back and edit it. It's as if you made a bet with a book and confirmed it when you pressed "reply".
The other rules change is that we start when football betting starts. No waiting for the regular season this year. If you want to bet the NFL preseason, it's right there for you. The season begins on Sunday August 7, 7 pm CT, Colts vs. Packers in the Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio. You can bet any NFL or college game at any time that is available on sbrodds.com from Pinnacle or Bookmaker. Also, Bookmaker has a bunch of lines already posted for week one of college. Have at it! Note that on sbrodds.com, there are tabs at top for nfl and college football and tabs on the left to see the spread and totals bets.
The contest will go through the Super Bowl.
Everybody starts with $2000 in bet bucks. If you lose it all, you are done from the contest for the year. Manage your money wisely!
There will be weekly prizes of $25 for the most $ won in a week. You must make at least five bets to be eligible to win a week. If there is a tie, the winner will be the one with the best pick win % that week. There will be season prizes of $200 for first place -- the person with the largest bankroll at the end of the season -- and $100 for second place. You must make at least 75 picks to be eligible to win a season prize.
I will compete right along with you with the same rules. Again, I will not be posting lines this year. Get the lines yourself whenever you like.
First game kicks off on August 7. Bring it!

You have $2,000 to bet with. Go to the website, get the lines, and pick your bets and how much you want to bet. I will do the rest. You will get the hang of it.

A few facts from last season:
Last year, KS started the season going 12 games under .500 for the first three weeks. In the remaining 17 weeks, he was 47 games over .500. That far surpasses what anybody else did during any stretch of the season. Without that slow start, KS wins going away. Peeps was pretty consistent all year and Chus had a few blowout weeks, but KS was high volume, positive results for 90% the year. Had he bet everything for one unit, he would have won the contest with +18.7 units, instead of Peeps and Chus, who finished +16.6. But KS finished only plus 11.9 units, meaning he didn't do so well on his multiple unit plays. It will be interesting to see how the high volume strategy works with a bankroll limit. Money management and amount bet per play will be key factors this year.
So as I look at this year, based on past results, I have to make the favorites Peeps, Chus, Hawg and KS. In the first two years of the contest, Peeps and Hawg are the only ones to be + both seasons, so they have to be THE two favorites.
Jackref and I are the longshots.

Colts +1 -106 Pinnacle $5 No idea if I did that right. KS gets the first bet down on the contest.
Well Almost!
This is not yet an official bet because the MINIMUM bet in this contest is $10. HOWEVER...
In the interest of brevity and the fact that mistakes can be made I am hereby creating KS Amendment 1 in which any bet listed without a dollar amount or an amount that below the minimum will automatically be $10.
And so I also hereby create an Amendment 2 that any bet that puts a person over the $500 limit for a game will automatically revert to the amount that puts the person at the maximum $500 total win amount on any one game.
So since I am the sole arbiter of the rules, I hereby adopt Amendment 1, meaning KS' official bet is Colts +1 -106 Pinnacle $10 KS, this means you are betting $10.60 to win $10 on the Colts
KS kicks off the season betting against the Packers.
Let the fun times roll.
