It's a long-time situation in college football that when a team that thinks it is in the hunt for the national title loses its first game and its chance at a national title, they are flat the next week. Kids get depressed, the spirit and focus is gone. They may talk about a bounce-back but the results of this situation over many year speak for itself that they are not in the same place. Stanford was in that spot this week. But while there was no way I would have bet ON Stanford, I didn't trust Wazu on the road. This angle is really better when the losing team is on the road or the team they are playing is more trustworthy than WSU.
Good teams pull it back together eventually, but that first week after the first loss is a killer. There were two teams that lost their first game today that maybe thought they were in the hunt. They will be in this spot next week and no way I would bet on them...though we'll have to see if I bet on their opponents.

I would say 1 of those 3. Which two didn't think they had a chance, undefeated in week six? Miami and Tennessee would definitely be in the playoff if they ran the table. If Houston ran the table, wins over Oklahoma and Louisville might have gotten them in. |
