I just don’t care that much about wrestling to be worried about giving Joey Ryan “a chance.” I did. He’s just not for me and it’s a waste of my time. I’m the part of the group who it’s not for. You guys are more than welcome to enjoy him. Not trying to talk anyone out of that as we’ve gone down that path before. Not having him in his current gimmick gives me the best chance to watch a weekly AEW product. It’s so easy to not watch WWE on a consistent basis as I’ve unfortunately proved over the last year.

Completely respect your opinion but what's the difference between Joey and then Mick Foley pulling a sock out of his crotch & shoving it in people's mouths and winning? (I feel like I've had this discussion on here before, but I could be just crazy). Or Santino with the Cobra (I hated that with a passion, even if Santino was a funny comedy wrestler for a time)? It’s much more like Santino which I also think is stupid as fuck and “punch the button” television. I do not find it in anyway like what Mick Foley does. I see why you feel that way, but I do not feel that way as the move itself can be sold to me as believable enough. Credit to Mick I suppose.

I'm actually hoping the story is bogus. I'd be a little worried to know/think that AEW offered a contract to Joey in the first place.
I mean look. I'm happy he has his niche thing on the Indies. I'm happy for the people that find him enjoyable. But he's not what I'm looking for in AEW.
I want this to be as real and as "sporty" as it can possibly be. I'm hoping for a modern WCCW to be honest.

I should clarify in saying that Joey would be a GREAT signing minus the dick stuff. But really what kind of signing would he be without it? He should just keep doing his thing. It's working for him.

I totally get it's not for everyone and certainly respect their opinion for that. I think the fact that it's gotten over to the level it has is sort of a testament to Joey. He's getting booked all over and making great money, so in that regard you have to respect the hustle.
I watched the Bray Wyatt fun house vignette and the Sami Zayn segment due to the AEW name drop. I didn't bother seeking out anything else on RAW or SD this week and it's refreshing.
I'll keep up with NXT since there's a Takeover this weekend, but why fucking bother caring about the main roster when they've proven they don't care either.

I agree. While he could easily just do his sleazy gimmick he's good at, if he's getting booked for being King of Dong Style, then make as much money as you possibly can. Something tells me it's not the only time he could get a gig with AEW since he's friends with virtually everyone.

This guy was easily my most favorite during the Royale. Don't know a damn thing about him. LOVE this signing.

Since we've talked about it in here, figured this is where I'd post it.
Joey Ryan announced he's staying on the independents. “When I announced that I was going to do this on May 30, I didn’t know my decision. The more I thought about it, the more I think independent wrestling and independent wrestling fans are the blonde girl I’ve been looking for on Being the Elite.”
“So for better or for worse, I choose you, independent wrestling. In independent wrestling, I might be a big fish in a small pond, but it’s my fucking pond.”
Good for Joey.

According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, roughly 98,000 homes purchased AEW’s Double or Nothing on PPV. All In last year drew around 55,000 buys, meaning that AEW’s debut came close to doubling their audience at home. The newsletter also notes that this number should increase with replay buys and could top ECW’s biggest-ever show, which did 99,000 buys. If that does come to pass, AEW will have hosted the biggest PPV in wrestling history outside of WWE and WCW.
It’s also worth noting the type of people ordering the show. When comparing traditional PPV buys to digital streaming purchases, it was close to a 50/50 split. This is different from typical productions, which only do up to 25 percent of their business online. The data suggests that more tech-savvy (read: younger) viewers were turning, which is good news for the upstart brand.

According to this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, All Elite Wrestling’s debut pay-per-view (PPV) Double or Nothing is estimated to have done 98,000 buys.
That includes traditional cable/satellite and internet/streaming distribution, where they show is said to have done a roughly 50/50 split. Such a split represents what could be a significant shift in the market, as digital usually only accounts for a small percentage of the overall buys. About 66% of purchases came from the United States. The United Kingdom was comfortably the second biggest market for the show, followed by Australia, Germany and Canada.
The overall figure is not only very good, it’s potentially historically so. The previous record for a non-WWE/WCW pro wrestling event was 99,000 buys for ECW Heat Wave 1999. With replays, Double or Nothing is likely to pass that figure. For other comparisons, ALL IN reportedly drew 55,000 buys. In its 16 year history, the Observer says TNA/Impact has only approached 50K on a few occasions.
Online interest was also strong, per the WON. AEW was the second most searched item on Google Trends for Sat., May 25, behind only the Toronto Raptors, who clinched their first ever NBA Finals appearance that night. The 220,000 searches done for All Elite the night of Double or Nothing was 12% more than the last UFC event and 35% more than WWE Money in the Bank. Second day search numbers on Sun., May 26 widened those gaps, with AEW getting four times as many as WWE’s last PPV and six-times UFC 237.
Dave Meltzer wrote that ALL IN, New Japan’s Tokyo Dome shows nor G1 Supercard in Madison Square Garden ever placed in the top twenty Google Trends. NXT only did so once, when there were 50,000 searches for March’s TakeOver: New York.
Of course, the question now is “what happens next time?”
But for at least a few days at least, Tony Khan, Cody Rhodes & team can be very happy with this news.

As reported in the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), it’s looking like All Elite Wrestling won’t be airing on Tuesdays after all. Despite the Tuesday Night Dynamite trademark, it appears that AEW will instead air on Wednesday. The decision still isn’t final, but TNT is said to be “leaning strongly” towards it.
Additionally, Jason Agnew of Sunday Night’s Main Event is reporting that the company is in talks with The Sports Network to air on Canada. It’s the ESPN equivalent in the country, so this is a huge deal if the two sides come to terms.

Cornette going after Joey Ryan again. Sonny Kiss too apparently.
I think I actually agree Cornette.
He wasn't being homophobic. He doesn't like comedy wrestling.

I definitely didn't hear the whole thing so I didn't comment. But I agree with you that what I heard wasn't that bad.
It's also very Trump-like in delivery. Cornette knows how to draw attention. It worked.

I too listened and completely understood what Cornette was saying. Nothing out of line. I guess Cornette should realize though, that in today's climate you cannot say anything about gay people other than "Sonny Kiss is a wonderful and courageous representation of the LGBTQ community and is a role model for all youth." If you don't completely kiss their asses, they come for you.

Yeah, I think it would behoove Impact to try to play nice with other promotions. Working relationships in wrestling tend to benefit all parties and currently Impact is a very distant fourth in the pecking order behind WWE, AEW, and NJPW. Impact could have used Cage's appearance at DON as advertisement for their own show. Missed opportunity in my opinion.

It's weird because when Don Callis took over, he made a point to say guys could work wherever they wanted as long as it didn't conflict with Impact's schedule.
I guess this is different because AEW will have TV and PPVs but as you say it's a missed opportunity.

I guess Eli Drake is a free agent. I know nothing about him. Would he be a good fit in AEW or no?

I guess Eli Drake is a free agent. I know nothing about him. Would he be a good fit in AEW or no? Eh, if they didn't have MJF I'd say probably, but his character is almost just like his, except MJF's is a lot better. Unless he does a character change. He's a good athlete, so it's always possible. Then again I'm basing my opinion on the last time I really watched Impact, so he could be completely different than what I remember. WWE released him before he went to TNA and became something. Maybe they'll be afraid of AEW signing him and try to snag him before they do?

Having Moxley look like Austin with the all black is a good choice.

Just starting the match now. Mox came through the crowd to generic rock music (much better than the WWE one), the crowd popped huge.
Seeing him in a New Japan ring is pretty surreal honestly.

Damn that was a hell of a match. Mox hasn't had a match like that in years & years. He's already a huge star there. He needs to be in G1, there's no way around it.

Having Moxley look like Austin with the all black is a good choice. Having him wear traditional wrestling gear in general is a huge upgrade. I always thought guys who wrestle in street clothes are hard to take serious as top guys. Looks bush league. He now looks like a major player.

1st ep of Road to Fyter Fest is up. Moxley cuts a great promo on Joey Janela.
Said now that he's "Shawshank Redemptioned out of that bitch" he's been full speed ahead and doesn't care if kids or grandmothers are there, he won't care about the safety of his opponent. He said he's going to take the fight to Joey quick, "think of it as Amazon Prime for head trauma" haha loved that line.
"From one guy who gives zero fucks to another, choose your words carefully, my friend. Make sure you're sure you want to become my enemy."
Hard to believe this is the same guy who did nothing just months ago. Happy he's letting loose.
