IWGP Heavyweight Tag Titles Tama Tonga & Tanga Roa vs The Young Bucks vs EVIL & SANADA
IWGP United States Title Cody vs Juice Robinson

The card is so loaded that Minoru fucking Suzuki is on your pre-show!!
Hopefully those matches in the gauntlet aren't treated like a joke and it's legit awesome.
Also looking forward to New Years Dash. I assume some serious shit should be going down on that show too. It'll answers some questions about where The Elite boys stand with New Japan.

Sorry man. No live run for me. But enjoy. Watching live shows at odd hours with the few that make it tends to be special.

No worries dude. I made it until I think the co-main last year and had to rewatch Kenny/Jericho and Okada/Naito.
Hoping for a shocking return of Woodridge to join the thread tonight like last year!

Hangman, Marty & Yujiro vs Nagata, Finlay & Cobb kick us off. Chase Owens got involved, but Hangman ran into him and Yujiro got rolled up by Finlay.
Chuck Taylor, Trent? & Goto are next. Finlay again gets a roll up on Chuckie T who missed a moonsault. Trent was visibly pissed at Chuck.
Suzuki, Davey & Archer are out next. Even on the pre-show, Suzuki's entrance is amazing.

Archer & Davey hit a Killer Bomb on Finlay to eliminate him.
Here comes Yano, Makabe & Taguchi. Suzuki-gun attack them on the aisle.

Yano wins with a low blow on both Killer Elite, then rolled up Davey. Meaning Yano, Taguchi & Makabe get a 6 man title shot at New Years Dash
This whole match was a lot of fun. While I liked the randomness of the Royal Rumble, this was much better.
Ibushi vs Ospreay will be up first on the main show in a bit.

Fuckin A did Ospreay & Ibushi live up to the hype. Ospreay wins the title with a Storm Breaker, but he set it up with a wild Roaring Elbow to the back of the neck which just crumbled Ibushi, who had to be taken out on a stretcher post match.
At one point Ibushi hit a double stomp to the neck of Ospreay off the top, but in the process Ibushi face planted on the mat and busted his nose open.
The way Ospreay has changed his style from not having to fly around every other move has made him legit one of the best in the world.
Fantastic match. I hope Ibushi is ok.

Shingo & Bushi win the titles in a sprint after Shingo hit The Last of the Dragon.
It was pretty much a 3 team tornado tag. It was fun but another high flying match after the opener kind of fell flat to me. Still a good match though, just couldn't follow the opener.
Sabre vs Ishii is next and should be a fucking war
|
|
|
Post by randomone on Jan 4, 2019 3:04:49 GMT -6
Zack wins the title submitting Ishii with Hurrah! Another Year, Surely This One Will Be Better Than the Last; The Inexorable March of Progress Will Lead Us All to Happiness (best name ever for a finisher, Kevin Kelly completed saying it right when Ishii submitted)
It was stiff, but Sabre targeted the arms of Ishii to take away his offense. Smart & fun match.
Tag Title 3 Way for the Heavyweight Titles is next

EVIL & SANADA win the titles in an action packed three way tag. Only thing I didn't like was Tama, Roa and Jado were all about not cheating and turning over a new leaf, which is bullshit & dumb.
End saw The Bucks go for a Meltzer Driver but Nick got hit with a Gun Stun in mid air. EVIL hit Everything is Evil, then Matt got hit with a Magic Killer and moonsault by SANADA for the finish.
Cody vs Juice Robinson up next. Brandi is looking insanely hot as usual.

Juice wins the title in a good albeit shorter match than you'd expect. Cody looked good despite the knee issue. Hope he heals up after surgery.
Brandi got involved a bunch, hit her Bionic spear on Juice, then Tiger threw her out.
Finish saw Juice hit the Hand of God punch twice and Pulp Friction twice to win the match and title. Redemption for his loss to Cody a couple years back at Wrestle Kingdom.
Kushida vs Ishimori is next
|
|
|
Post by randomone on Jan 4, 2019 3:46:22 GMT -6
Holy shit we get a return of Taguchi as Doc Brown. First a kid dressed as Kushida in a mask that looked just like him came out. Don Callis said Kushida shrunk in the wash, haha.
Taguchi proceeded to essentially blow up the kid (just smoke went off, Callis was appalled) and the real Kushida appeared from the smoke.
That was a fucking crazy entrance

Ishimori wins the title with the Bloody Cross in a friggin great match. Lots of counters and reversals. Really fun match. 6 matches, 6 new champions.
Okada vs White next
|
|
|
Post by randomone on Jan 4, 2019 4:29:43 GMT -6
Jay White pins Okada clean with a Blade Runner in the middle. Gedo did get involved in the first half, but he was taken out. This was the biggest win of his career and was a very good showing. He needs to really step it up a notch from here and not be the guy who relies on interference and shenanigans. I understand why, but he does it way too much.
Commentary questioning whether all this time at the top has finally caught up to Okada. Like the story told.
Jericho vs Naito is next, No DQ! Expect a wild brawl.

Jericho's entrance is so awesome in New Japan. Love he has Judas by Fozzy as his music still.
And he's not wearing trunks, so there's that too.
Naito attacks before the bell, here we go!

Jericho ate a piledriver on stage early, but he hit Naito with a DDT on the announce table that was friggin brutal. It looked like he DDT'd a mannequin.

Belt shot and a second Destino wins the title for Naito in an excellent hard hitting fight. Lots of kendo stick shots and there was like 10 chairs in the ring at one point.
Jericho is the fucking man. He left with welts all over his back.
Omega vs Tanahashi is next! I'm fucking exhausted but I have one left!

20 minutes in so far. Solid back and forth early until Tana hit a dragon screw and targeted Kenny's leg.
Cloverleaf, Twist & Shout, Styles Clash but he missed a High Fly Flow to give Kenny time to recover.
Really like the pace of the match so far.
As I type this Tana just hit a sling blade on the apron and we have Kenny placed on a table, TANAHASHI MISSES HIGH FLY FLOW AND CRASHES THROUGH THE TABLE!!!

Kenny with a double stomp out of the corner something Ibushi hit to start the night. Then two of the most vicious gut wrench powerbombs I've ever seen for a few near falls.
Kenny looks for V Trigger but Tana hits a desperation sling blade.
Both guys are exhausted. Kenny's leg and Tana's ribs.

Kenny with a sling blade and hits a High Fly Flow of his own!!! Tanahashi kicks out at 1!!!
The counters are insane in this one.
Kenny with V-Trigger, looks for One Winged Angel but Tana hits a reverse rana!!

High Fly Flow crossbody followed by a regular High Fly Flow but only gets a 2!!
We're 35 minutes in.

Kenny connects with a Dragon suplex off the top but luckily Tana over rotated and landed on his face/belly and not his neck like Okada did.
Tana counters One Winged Angel into another Sling Blade!!! HIGH...FLY...FLOOOOOWWWWW!!!! TANAHASHI WINS IT!!!
Longest main event in Wrestle Kingdom history.
Incredible main event. This now allows Omega to potentially win it back at Madison Square Garden if they choose.
I stayed up for all of it and glad I did. That was one of the best Top to bottom shows I've ever seen.

I read this thread this morning like I was watching the show. If randomone would have fallen asleep early it would have been like a stream going out back in the day. Nice recap.

Haha that's great.
Also the Ospreay killing Ibushi before Ibushi could kill Ibushi line is incredibly accurate.
