With the recent passing of Mean Gene, I started thinking about the dead wrestlers on some of the early 90s WWF shows. SummerSlam '90 came to mind. Out of a possible 45 performers, including wrestlers, managers, interviewers, referees, and announcers, 23 are deceased as of today. That's 51% of the entire show! The only match has fully escaped the grim reaper is the Warlord/Tito Santana match. Note: Lord Alfred Hayes and Gorilla Monsoon did not appear on the show.
Here is the card:
Dark Match: Shane Douglas vs. Buddy Rose(D)
Hercules(D) & Paul Roma vs. The Rockers
Intercontinental Title Match: Texas Tornado(D) vs. Mr. Perfect(D) w/Bobby Heenan(D)
Sensational Sherri(D) vs. Sapphire(D)
The Warlord w/Slick vs. Tito Santana
Tag Team Title Match: Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart(D) vs. Smash & Crush(D)
Jake Roberts vs. Bad News Brown(D)
Jim Duggan & Nikolai Volkoff(D) vs. The Orient Express w/Mr. Fuji(D)
Randy Savage(D) vs. Dusty Rhodes(D)
Earthquake(D) w/Jimmy Hart & Dino Bravo(D) vs. Hulk Hogan w/Big Boss Man(D)
WWF Title Match: Rick Rude(D) w/Bobby Heenan vs. Ultimate Warrior(D)
Run-ins: Hawk(D) & Animal Referees: Freddy Sparta, Unknown, Earl Hebner, Joey Marella(D), Mike Chioda Color Commentator: Roddy Piper(D) Promo: Ted DiBiase Interviewer: Sean Mooney, Gene Okerlund(D)
I'm now depressed.

Yeah it's really sad when you realize just how many guys from the time you started watching have passed away.
Summerslam 90 was ironically the show that made me a wrestling fan (looking back, what an awful show to start, right?), it's the VHS tape I rented from Blockbuster because the cover caught my eye. I had never seen wrestling or heard of it prior to then. My grandma just let me rent it. Never forget that.
Also WrestleMania 7 has 23 as well. Bobby Heenan, Texas Tornado, Dino Bravo, British Bulldog, Jim Neidhart, Paul Bearer, Jimmy Snuka, Ultimate Warrior, Randy Savage, Sensational Sherri, Miss Elizabeth, Crush, Mr. Fuji, Big Bossman, Mr. Perfect, Earthquake, Hawk, Hercules, Roddy Piper, Lord Alfred Hayes, Gene Okerlund, Gorilla Monsoon & Joey Marella
When I met Hacksaw Jim Duggan a few years back, I had him sign my WM7 Coliseum Video VHS cover and he turned it around and said "man, so many of these guys are gone now." It was so awkward & sad

Good call on WrestleMania 7. I knew it had a high death count but I didn't realize it caught up with SummerSlam '90. It's actually 24 if you count George Steinbrenner appearing during a taped segment.
Man, you're speaking my language when you talk about those Blockbuster rentals. My first show was WrestleMania 4. I must have watched that damn tournament over a hundred times. Every time I watched, I kept rooting for Steamboat to beat Valentine but alas, it never happened.

Whenever I'd go to the video store with my grandma, she'd let me rent wrestling videos because they were always $1 rentals. WM4 I always remember because they were rubber banded together for the 2 tapes, haha.
A few years ago at a flea market, I found Mania 4 on VHS in the original pop up Hogan cover for $5. I immediately bought it. Been back to that flea market a few times since, hoping I'd find others, but it's the only wrestling VHS I've found there. It was so random, but happy I found it.

Gotta love those flea market tapes. I found some lame ass Global Wrestling Federation DVD at a flea market years ago. Awful. ESPN Classic ran all of those shows 3-7 years back. I can't keep up anymore. I DVR'd the shows and while it was cool to see the likes of early Harlem Heat, my goodness was it the drizzling shits.
