So I am working on a presentation where I am relating professional wrestling to Information Security. This started as a joke with some local security nerds here and has really blossomed into something. There are some surprising correlations between wrestling and the lingo and the psychology to security. So what better group to help me really make this kick ass!
So for now I am looking to find the top 5 moments in wrestling that made you really mark out. I am going to use these as a foundation for comparing to major security incidents.
To start here are my top 3:
Montreal Screw Job Hogan joining NWO Austin/Hart WM13 (the psychology of the double turn here was masterful)
What are some other genre defining moments in wrestling history?

I love this premise. It's why I show Tommy Boy clips during sales training.

Hogan/Andre, Austin/Pillman (Talk About Security!), and Hogan/Goldberg. For now.

Hogan/Andre, Austin/Pillman (Talk About Security!), and Hogan/Goldberg. For now. Love it! Except Goldberg - he still sucks

Use Shockmaster as an example of when things go wrong.

Use Shockmaster as an example of when things go wrong. That's the 8 AM presentation after being out the night before. "I meant to do that. It's the Shockmaster. So, onto Dean Malenko and IT Today..."

Austin's first stunner on Vince McMahon in 1997 (and the build to it). Seriously, go watch every WWF show from the Owen Hart piledriver at SummerSlam '97 through that MSG Raw and watch the BUILD to Austin's first stunner on Vince. It's some of the best week-to-week episodic TV they've ever done.

When Sid broke his leg. Shows that even the old reliable can break down.
When Mr. Wonderful turned heel on Hogan. Shows that you can't always trust what you've counted on in the past and you need to be on your toes.

This is some really great stuff. What about anything before Hogan/Andre? NWA or AWA angles or even WCCW? I want some pre-WWF/E examples too.

When Kerry von Erich refused to pin Flair after Michael Hayes knocked Ric out. Then Hayes slammed Kerry's head with the cage door and he lost the Worlds title.
When Dusty ran in the cage to help save Flair from the Koloffs but ended up getting beaten down and the Four Horsemen were born.

This is some really great stuff. What about anything before Hogan/Andre? NWA or AWA angles or even WCCW? I want some pre-WWF/E examples too. So a lot of my choices have already been said, but I'll mention a couple from different times that made me go "holy shit this is great"
The Horsemen breaking Dusty's arm. It was straight out of a mob movie. The way it was filmed, tailing Dusty, attacking him in a parking lot, them beating him down with an axehandle, tying him to a truck and just as they were about to show you the breaking of the arm, the video sort of cuts and you don't actually see it, just Dusty screaming. You don't get that sort of storyline anymore.
The moment that really started the Bruno and Larry Zbysko feud. Bruno training Larry, Larry wanting to wrestle Bruno, Bruno didn't want to because he cared about Larry and could possibly hurt him. Then when they did, he took it easy on Larry until Larry snapped and beat the shit out of Bruno, bloodying him and the crowd went crazy. Just listen to the crowd as they realize what's happening as seeing Bruno, their hero, getting beaten badly.
More recent would be the Jericho/HBK feud in 2008. I'm in college at this point, not nearly as interested in wrestling or storylines, but when Jericho punched HBK's wife in the face at Summerslam, it made me go holy shit for the first time in WWE for years. That storyline drew me back in.

I like the Bruno/Zbysko example a lot. That is a great parallel to mentor/mentee relationships.
