Hot match, biggest pop of the night was for Outrunners, the point of the match is to re-establish the deep tag team division, and you have the team thrown together last minute win it. Tony is such a fucking dope.

Bucks vs Fletcher & Ospreay should be great but I have no idea what the finish will be. They have to bring back Mark Davis soon, as Fletcher mentioned how Ospreay was the only partner who he could win the big one with. Callis having Fletcher turn on Ospreay and reunite with Davis makes sense.
Mina is coming back soon! I assume we’re getting Mina vs Mariah
It was always odd that Darby won a title shot for Grand Slam and not WrestleDream. This way makes more sense and they just pivoted.
Mox vs Darby and Bryan vs Nigel (non title) is a good one two for Grand Slam.

Fun show overall.
Bummed Outrunners didn’t win though. That pop was wild for them. Should’ve capitalized.
Also no Machine Guns. I now absolutely expect them on NXT for the CW debut.

I don't want to say it, Claudio can't perform in a serious angle anymore. WWE may have taken that out of him. I'm not sure I agree. Why do you think that? Maybe I'm not understanding what you are saying.

Maybe I'm not understanding what you are saying. When they were doing the beatdown on the tag teams (I don't remember who they were), he was making his same comical facial expressions he always does. I don't know why, but seeing it really bugged me.

There isn't a reason other than "hey we thought of this cool idea so fuck it let's just change it". That screams of Vince yelling that nobody will remember anyway when he changed things from week to week.

It has nothing to do with Dave. Anyways, Darby won the Royal Rampage last month and was supposed to get a title shot at Grand Slam. I expected Mox to want to challenge him FOR the title shot prior to Grand Slam, but having the title shot happen at WrestleDream can at least build it to the PPV. That’s why I said it was odd they had it originally for Grand Slam.
Plans change I guess and they switched to title shot on the line at Grand Slam instead. They could build to Darby winning the title down the line. Why have him get a shot now and lose? I know him losing to Mox isn’t great, but the story isn’t Darby & Bryan, it’s Mox.
I don’t know what the “it’s not your company anymore” is about and expect that to be addressed as soon as Grand Slam. I just thought it was a good idea to shift focus and not have Bryan defend until WrestleDream.
Again, found it odd though Bryan is still wrestling at Grand Slam. But then again, his match with Nigel needed to happen before he called it a full time career. Glad it’s happening.

I would’ve just had Nigel win the All In Gauntlet and not Christian
But part of me thinks Christian will hold onto that contract for a while and say Darby wins the title from Bryan by the end of the year, Christian could be there to piss on his parade.

I guess they had to sell the Bryan injury and didn’t have enough time to build a World Title match with he & Darby if Bryan was out a couple weeks?
Mox beats Darby for the shot. Mox vs Bryan with 2-3 weeks build for WrestleDream. Bryan vs Nigel at Grand Slam is a match they've tease since Nigel came to AEW, so I’m happy we’re getting it before Bryan calls it a career but “only if doctors clear Bryan”.
It does seem Darby is getting the short end of the stick in this though. Not sure where he goes post Grand Slam. They need to build him up again if he loses (which I think he will).

But they aren't selling the Bryan injury if he's facing Nigel on the same night he was supposed to face Darby.
Unless they actually don't have the Bryan-Nigel match, it's just dumb.

Makes absolutely no sense. Why would Darby even want to put up his title shot to begin with? What does he get out of it? Because Darby is thinking with his heart and not his brain. He’s always done that. He wants to make Mox pay for what he did to Bryan. He should absolutely want to keep his title shot, but that’s not the case. Mox is still be cryptic. Sounds like they want to “take over” and wants to spare Darby from being a casualty, but has to do what he has to do in order to get his title shot and be the one to end Bryan’s career.

They said it will only happen if doctors clear Bryan. Which, they’d be dumb now to hold off at this point. Why cut that promo if you aren’t having the match. Perhaps they can rely more on story of Bryan really hurt but can go to offset Nigel being able to have a full steam match? All In kept physicality to a minimum. Maybe this is a way to get the match in at least somehow?

Randomone, do you see how Speeps and I are having a hard time trying to make logical sense of this as an audience? This doesn't make actual sense.

Yes and I said multiple times it was odd they decided to go the way they did.
Darby won this title shot at the end of July. Maybe they had a certain idea for Grand Slam and plans changed? Maybe at the time Bryan wasn’t going to win at All In?
They should’ve done a better job explaining why we aren’t getting the title match at Grand Slam. But instead we’re getting Mox & Darby for the title shot and I hope the winner of that goes to WrestleDream. Which is in Washington, Darby country, so who knows, maybe Darby beats Mox and Bryan costs him the match and we get Darby vs Bryan in Washington? Battle of the Washington boys.

I hear you, and again I totally understand you trying to explain the behind the curtain reasons why, plans change, etc. I'm sure there are good reasons and that's all fine. I don't need that explanation of why or what this ultimately does. That shit should not matter to me or the audience. What should matter is the story that is taking us there and tonight I was just totally confused as a viewer. It cracks me up how AEW loyalists just kinda shrug this type of stuff off.

They shrug it off the same as the WWE Universe when Vince would promote matches on RAW or Smackdown and they’d just never happen the following week.
You asked for a reason and I tried to give you one. It’s more than we got on AEW tonight (again, we should’ve gotten a better one), so I don’t know what else to say honestly.
They have a week before Grand Slam. I’m looking forward to seeing how they build off tonight next week, hopefully they do.

That's what Vince wanted them to do however. I've got two decades worth of posts shitting on WWE so that answer just doesn't work for me. Yea, you did your best. Its never mattered which letters are in the promotion - I just hate illogical shit.

Well the people who clamor for AEW to be more like WWE have to be happy.
That's not anyone here, or perhaps not anyone anywhere, but if they're out there they're happy.

Next few weeks on Dynamite has (so far)
Sept 18 Chris Jericho vs Orange Cassidy The Bucks & Okada vs Ospreay, Fletcher & Takeshita
Sept 25: Grand Slam Bryan Danielson vs Nigel McGuinness (maybe) Jon Moxley vs Darby Allin Young Bucks vs Will Ospreay & Kyle Fletcher
I assume we’ll add Mariah May vs Mina Shirakawa and also Saraya vs Jamie Hayter to these cards.

716,000 last night 0.21
Second behind the VMAs on MTV, which was ultimately on like 6 different channels I think
I chalk up 500,000 viewers to The Outrunners, 216,000 to Mariah

Solid increase from last week I think. And for a pretty unremarkable show. Good sign.

And the VMAs did 728,000, so Dynamite was close.
But then again, many could’ve been watching the VMAs on different channels. Just the MTV one did the 728,000

Is it true that 10% of the building was full Wednesday night? I’m not asking for a tickets out number. That seems fake to me but wonder if anyone read anything like that.

They had about 2700 I think in Rupp Arena.
Rupp has a basketball capacity of 20,000 and a concert capacity of 23,000, so it looks like between 12% and 13% capacity.

Ok that’s about right then.
KS, tickets distributed isn’t the same as turnstile. I was looking for turnstile. Rarely will sports or wrestling companies share that number or be truthful about it*.

2,791 distributed. 70-95% actually shows up because there’s probably a good number of comps in there.
