The larger issue is that they've been in a creative tailspin for several years and it seems to be coming to a head now. They've obviously had problems building stars for a while now. Bigger picture for me is the lack of interest with everyone home watching TV. If the Tyson/Austin confrontation happened in the Performance Center, with no fans, it would kind of register. But not a game changing deal. WWE being healthy is good for the entire business. AEW wouldn't exist if it weren't for big TV deals. Many of the other promotions wouldn't exist, or thrive, if there wasn't an anti-WWE sentiment. If people are finding other things to do and the money goes away, so will many opportunities. |

I think a big problem is that despite being creatively bankrupt, WWE is still profitable. That's what sets them apart from when they did the Tyson/Austin deal. Their backs were quite literally against the wall. Now, they're such a money-generating machine that they can shit out lazy creative for the better part of two decades and still remain profitable despite themselves. This is why nothing will change...because they don't believe anything needs to.
I think a lot of lapsed WWE fans root for their failure with the hopes that it will motivate Vince to become desperate enough to give a fuck like he did in 1997 and 98. I'm realistic enough to know that ship has sailed.

A few weeks ago, for the first time since I got DVR, I took the Record Series thing off for RAW. I simply don't care about the product anymore. Not even how I used to watch, which was fast forwarding until I catch something interesting.
Credit for them trying during this time, I guess, but you have to adapt. AEW doesn't bore me to death, it keeps me interested with video packages, different ways of incorporating social media. They work with what they've been dealt.
WWE is sticking to the formula they always have and without a crowd, it became so boring I didn't want to waste time watching anymore.
Also I'm still pretty sickened by them laying off all those people during this pandemic and as Drop In posted in the other thread, they're still on track to make an obscene amount of money this year regardless. They didn't NEED to lay off anyone during this. But that's another issue.
