Not at all Drop In - I think your first post in this thread was spot on. My whole point is that there are experts and I'm going to listen to them. If they are recommending that we shut things down now to save lives, I'm cool with that. Because if we don't and this gets out of hand we will be shitting it down anyway and the situation will be much more dire.

Jackref, I hope my post didn't come off as flippant. I've been in support of shutting things down for, as I said to a Hooters waitress Saturday, it to be quick and hard so it doesn't last too long. That was awkward and unintended. I'll never judge anyone making decisions for being too cautious unless it was for political gain or just being an asshole. Like I said here days ago and anyone I've spoken to, follow the money. Where's the economic gain here? Sure, for a few. But there's no real reason for this unless it's bio war. Gratefully, I'm in a spot where this doesn't really impact me on a daily basis. But I'd rather we take a cautious approach and get better at this going forward. Imagine if this was a more severe virus. See, you try to read a Drop In post because he's a smart guy, and then he drops the Hooters line and all bets are off.

I respect others opinions (except chas and KS). Business deciding they want to shut down is great. But it's a little dangerous to let government decide to start ordering shutdowns of businesses and assemblies.
Oh well.
I'm sure nothing bad will come from this.

There are cases to be made on both sides of the argument. I just don't know what's right and what's wrong.

I 100% get this point of view and under I think any other circumstance I would be on this train of thought. However, businesses aren't going to operate in the interest of public health (I am sure we all have first hand experience with this from a 2am burrito joint downtown and the next day ramifications) so when the top virus/pandemic doctor is saying shut it down in the interest of public health, I am going to side with him. That is not a decision anyone makes lightly, especially knowing the economic impacts in addition to the health care impacts. For whatever reason we have become a nation that distrusts experts, we need to stop doing that. There is a reason they are experts. If we can stem the advance of this virus and save lives because we have the knowledge and ability to do so, I'm all for it. Also, I have extra toilet paper if anyone needs some.

Trusting experts is good. Trusting government officials to not abuse their power is something different IMO. Like I said, I understand both points of view and the desire to keep everyone safe.

I'm in line at the store which wasn't bad at all. Person behind me in line had what seemed like a pretty unnecessary haul. But she did let the guy behind her go ahead, who had nothing but a huge case of Corona. "Figured it's on sale." I almost asked for digits to hang. Haha.

I'm officially broken by Corona. This is funny, but not that funny. However, I've been audibly laughing for five minutes.

Fuck. Mrs. Drop In watches Dr. Oz religiously. Now I'm going to get shot. Disclosure: All of this is true, but I partially stole that from Jimmy Kimmel.

I'm about done with this state and it's neverending bullshit.
Peak now projected to hit in mid May.
Make sure everything stays shut down til June.
Mandatory masks.
Enough already.

A great job at what? Continually moving the goalposts and being babies? I don't understand the moving the goalposts argument. I'm a big believer and teach to under promise and over deliver. But if the State of Illinois came out and said we're going to be on lock down until June 30th, with the hope of opening sooner, there would have been chaos and the state would be in a worse financial situation. Let alone people just saying "fuck it" right from the start and ignore social distancing, etc. Which puts more people at risk, killing more people, and extending this deal further. Or, you have more police enforcing laws and more people pulling martial law out of their ass. Unless there's an angle to pay down some state debt with federal money, or a bankruptcy, which is a whole other thing.

The goal of the stay at home in March (other than a temper tantrum by idiot politicians) was to make sure that hospitals weren't overwhelmed and could handle the cases that came in. Mid April was the peak. The sturgeon general (yes that was on purpose) said 2 weeks ago that it was our 9/11 moment and it was going to be bad.
Now that we've done that and kept our social distancing and flattened the curve, hospitals are not anywhere near capacity, and the peak has been pushed back to mid-May.
If the goal was to hit the peak sooner, then why have a stay at home order at all? Get it over with and let's move on.
