Val Venis had a random match on here? Weird. This was a show I used to occasionally run into on Telemundo but never watched. Lucha Libre has always been hit or miss with me. I can only assume it was to get a main roster name on the show. I was going to say American wrestler, but Val's Canadian. He thankfully didn't squash any established name from the show and squashed Julio Sanchez.
Yeah, that's a huge reason I wanted to do a series rewatch of this show, it was only on a handful of times in my area and it was right when I came home from church Sunday mornings, so I would catch like 10 minutes of it. I wanted wrestling that I legit never saw before.
I'm glad there were no titles, but a main storyline that progresses as the series goes on with Miguel Perez & El Merenguero with some other names starting to sprinkle in. It all culminates to something and I was pleasantly surprised it wasn't overbooked.

May 2 El Merenguero & Papi Chulo vs The Hardy Boyz Damascus & Brother Nero time traveled and are here on Astros! Chulo misses a dive & lands on his feet as Matt tries a dive and gets caught by the heels, so Jeff hits a somersault plancha wiping everyone out. Hardys in control back inside with double team offense as Matt takes the fight to Merenguero, hitting a moonsault for 2. Side suplex into a Jeff slingshot moonsault gets another near fall as he tries a monkey flip in the corner, but Chulo pulls him down throat first on the top. Heels take over with double boot & dropkick to the floor as Chulo clears the post & hits a somersault plancha. Back inside, Merenguero posts his shoulder missing a splash as Matt tags in and is a house of fire on Chulo. Hardys send the heels into each other, but Merenguero pops up Chulo, who dropkicks Jeff to the floor. Matt tries a leapfrog out of the corner on Chulo, who sends him face first down, hits his Shooting Star to the back & covers Matt for the 3.
Funaki (w/Taka) vs Pantera Back elbow by Funaki starts us off as he hits sliding elbows, but wildly misses a splash. Pantera tries a victory roll, but Funaki slams him into an Electric Chair, only to get crotched when he went up in the corner. Pantera nails a huge super rana for 2, then fireman carry slams Funaki, goes up top for a moonsault & gets clocked by Taka, allowing Funaki to hit a Michinoku Driver for the win! Funaki hits Taka’s finisher!
May 9 Pantera vs Scott Taylor First time seeing Scotty since the debut episode as he hits an early back elbow & jaw jacks with the crowd. Pump handle suplex & a moonwalk follow as Pantera fights back with a wheel kick & clothesline to the floor. Taylor bails on a dive, but doesn’t create enough distance as Pantera does a suicide dive through the corner & wipes Taylor out at the break. Back & Scotty is in control with a snap suplex for 2. He lowers his head & Pantera rolls him up for a close 2, goes to the top & nails a cross body for another near fall. Scotty destroys Pantera with a lariat, then tries a powerbomb, but Pantera rolls through into a sunset flip for the 3!
El Torito & Max Mini vs Battalion & Mini Nova Monkey flip by Torito on the big Battalion sends him outside as here comes Max & Nova who go a mile a minute with their arm drags & wild takedowns. Dropkick sends Nova outside & Max nails a dive through the bottom rope & hits him good. Torito does the same to Battalion as we go to commercial. Nova & Torito are in the ring when we return & Torito misses a senton, but Nova misses a splash. Nova avoids a dive, so Max just leaps off the top wiping out Battalion & gets a head scissors and arm drag. Dropkick sends Battalion outside & Max goes up to, spinning cross body!! Torito locks Nova in a submission inside, but Battalion breaks it up and it’s back to him & Max. Battalion tries a moonsault, but crashes & Max nails a leaping victory roll off the top for the 3 count! This match fucking ruled!
Funaki & Taka Michinoku vs Jose Estrada & Miguel Perez vs El Merenguero & Papi Chulo Triple threat tag is unique for this time as Chulo gets picked apart by multiple guys before Merenguero attacks Estrada as he, Chulo & Kaientai take turns beating him down. It really seems like that’s the story of this match, two teams against one as Kaientai keeps wearing down Estrada and don’t even go to their own corners, just make tags to Chulo or Merenguero and stay next to them in that corner. Merenguero misses a shoulder & posts himself as Perez gets the hot tag, but Merenguero TAGS ESTRADA, so Perez & Estrada, TAG TEAM PARTNERS, lock up, which, why?? Anyways, they finally let go & Perez tags Chulo, who beats Perez’s partner down. Estrada tags Taka and finally the heel teams have to wrestle. Chulo & Taka shake hands as Chulo turns his back, Taka spins him around, boots him & hits a Michinoku Driver for the 3 as Perez & Estrada just stood there and Funaki wiped out Merenguero. THIS. MATCH. SUCKED!
May 16 Super Loco vs Scoot Andrews Loco with a spinning toe hold & ankle pick early as Scott has to get a rope break. They trade full nelsons, but Loco gets a keylock takedown & chops to the corner. Loco misses a corner splash & gets chopped a bunch by Scoot, who dropkicks Loco to the floor. Running start & Scoot barely is able to hit a somersault plancha as Loco takes over & hits a moonsault off the second outside. Back inside Loco hits a sitout powerbomb for 2 as Scoot tries fighting back with a guillotine leg & misses badly. Revolution moonsaults for Loco follow as he gets the 1…2…3.
Miguel Perez vs Apollo Dantes Fast start by both as Dantes puts the brakes on a leap frog & hits a powerbomb. 10 corner punches as the referee scolds Dantes for reasons I have no idea, so he just slams Perez down, goes up top & hits a missile dropkick. He drives Perez into the steps before going back inside where it’s all Dantes. Finally Perez gets something going with a big back body drop & lariats as he dropkicks Dantes to the floor & nails a twisting cross body. Back inside Dantes takes the ref as Super Loco shows up & plants Perez with a DDT on the floor. He slides him back in just so Dantes can pick up the scraps for the win.
Papi Chulo vs Taka Michinoku They trade arm drags & head scissors as Chulo is back dropped to the floor in impressive fashion (doing a handstand on the ropes almost as Taka shoves him to the floor) as Taka hits an Asaii Moonsault. Back inside, running double stomps by Taka, as he hits a spin wheel kick for 2 and we see Apollo Dantes walk to ringside to apparently cheer on Chulo, who is back in control with a flashy arm drag. Tope con hilo by Chulo as we go to break & return to Chulo eating a Tornado DDT from Taka. He signals the end, but Chulo floats through a Driver, tries a rana, but Taka powerbombs out of it. Taka gets cut off in the ropes, shoves Chulo down, who fakes a leg injury long enough for Dantes to hit a low blow. Taka falls to the mat as Chulo covers him for 3.
May 23 Super Loco vs Miguel Perez How do you get revenge on a guy who cost you a match last week, by applying an arm bar in the opening seconds, of course. That’s what Perez does as he tosses Loco to the corner, hits a clothesline & snap suplex for 2. He charges, but eats a Loco elbow & Tornado DDT. Dropkick to the floor as Loco nails his Asaii Moonsault, wiping out Perez, tossing him back in. Loco boots Perez to the mat & nails a diving shoulder to the midsection in the corner as Perez fights back & sends Loco outside, only for Loco to sucker him back in the ring. Powerbomb out of the corner by Perez as Loco tumbles outside, allowing Perez to nail his twisting plancha. Both men collide back inside & Loco hits a wheel kick, then goes for his revolution moonsaults, but only got 1 of them before Perez gets a victory roll for 3.
El Merenguero vs Jose Estrada So Merenguero is carrying a metal noise maker to the ring now (the thing you use a stick to rub up & down to make noise, whatever you call that) as he gets attacked by his former Boricua partner with a back body drop outside. Perez lifts Merenguero up for a powerbomb, but drops him face first into the buckle for a 2 count. Merenguero gets a knee in the corner & tries a Tornado DDT, but Estrada holds on & hits a rana off the top for another 2. Estrada throws punches in the corner & gets pulled away by the ref allowing Merenguero to grab that noise maker & crack Estrada in the face for the 3 count.
Apollo Dantes & Papi Chulo vs Funaki & Taka Michinoku Chulo hangs onto a headlock for dear life before floating over & hitting a spin kick, chopping Funaki to the corner. Just like that, both Taka & Dantes tag in and Dantes misses a flying knee and eats a Tornado DDT (all three matches tonight have had that spot) as Kaientai clotheslines Dantes outside & Taka backdrops Funaki to the floor, wiping Apollo out. Chulo hits a wheel kick off the top on Taka, but Taka floats over a powerbomb into a face buster. All 4 men brawl outside before Chulo nails a twisting Asaii Moonsault to take us to commercial. Back from break & the heels have Taka isolated as Dantes pops up Chulo into a super rana out of the corner for 2. Taka rolls & tags in Funaki, who gets slammed immediately as Chulo misses a 450 badly. Dantes tags in, but gets leveled and Kaientai double dropkicks him outside. Taka misses a dive as Funaki hits a bulldog on Chulo (who isn’t the legal man, but the ref legs it go). Chulo & Dantes hit a wheelbarrow/facebuster combo as Chulo pins Funaki for the win.
May 30 Funaki, Taka Michinoku & Tiger Mask vs Apollo Dantes, Papi Chulo & Super Loco All the heels collide in the middle of the ring to start as Funaki hits a slingshot dive, Tiger Mask does a cross body out of the corner to the floor & Taka hits a springboard rana off the top. He charges for another, but Loco hits a pop up powerbomb & follow up tope con hilo! Funaki & Dantes in as Apollo takes over with a tilt a whirl back breaker as we go to break. This is the show after Owen Hart’s death, so they have Maria Felipe (the backstage interviewer on Astros) say some words about Owen. We come back from break and it’s dive after dive with Chulo hitting a wild one as Tiger hits a Pele Kick on Loco inside, hitting a cross body off the top for 2. Loco knocks Tiger down & does his revolution moonsaults, but Taka knocks him down before the third one, tagging Tiger & nails a missile dropkick & Michinoku Driver for 3.
Max Mini vs Mini Nova Before the main event Max Mini & Victor Quinones say words about Owen as we go to the match. Max hits a tilt a whirl head scissors, dropkicking Nova outside, who tries to avoid a baseball slide, but Max puts on the brakes and nails a rana off the apron. Back inside Nova turns Max inside out with a lariat, backdrops him over the top (that’s right) to the apron, but Max fights back with a diving arm drag off the top, then a quebrada for 2. Nova rolls outside & it proves a bad move as Max hits a springing cross body off the second. Both men land hard and just reset in the ring as Max tries a head scissors, but ultimately turns it into a victory roll for the 3 count.

Super Astros returns and some interesting notes in this one. I attended the first episode in this batch back in 1999! It was a week removed from the Owen Hart tribute show, so I had my We Miss You Owen sign that got completely buried from all the other signs in the crowd (I miss the days where literally everyone made signs for wrestling shows). I had no idea I would end up seeing a legend like Tiger Mask, also the future Super Crazy. I should point out at the show, I also saw the one and only Beaver Cleavage match. So, my town has the distinct honor of being where Triple H made his TV in ring debut in 95, the last time John Cena was The Prototype and Beaver Cleavage, haha.
I also added the first ep from July in this post, as it involves my favorite match of this whole series, a Giant Silva squash. You'll see why in the gif at the end.
June 6 Apollo Dantes vs Funaki So I was at this taping for these next 3 matches, which is kind of cool. 12 year old me didn’t appreciate it at the time, but I saw some solid matches. I still have some disposable camera pics that are pretty grainy & bad, but I still have them. Tiger Mask doing a dive in one of them. Anyways, Funaki backdrops Dantes to the floor & hits a running kick as he tosses him back inside, charges & Dantes nails a tilt a whirl back breaker. Snapmare/headlock combo as Funaki fights to his feet & gets slammed right back down as Dantes drops a leg & back to the chinlock. He taunts the crowd before lower his head & Funaki boots him. They lose their place briefly & Funaki just bodyslams him & drops an elbow for 2. Dantes destroys Funaki with a lariat, but Funaki answers with a running bulldog for 2. Reversal by Dantes, who hits a snap powerslam & monster missile dropkick, but again, poses too much. He locks in a Gory Special, but backslides Funaki down & gets the 3 count.
Papi Chulo vs Tiger Mask Damn right, I saw me some Tiger Mask in 1999! Chulo drops him with a kick to start & a sitout powerbomb right after. Discus chop by Chulo, who keps hitting double handed chops in the ropes with Tiger hung up. Pop up dropkick sends Chulo outside as Tiger Mask waits for him to come back in and he does so with a dropkick. Chulo misses a corner splash & Tiger hits a top rope cross body & spin kick sending Chulo outside. Massive cross body off the ring post by Tiger (I have this picture from my disposable camera still) as we went to commercial. Back from break & Chulo is back in control with a short arm clothesline. Dropkick by Tiger in mid air, but Chulo low bridges into a head scissors on the floor. He crotches Tiger on the ropes to the floor & gets his revenge with a somersault plancha over the ring post! Back inside, Tiger floats over & hits a backflip Pele Kick, but Tiger can’t follow up and gets slammed down. Chulo nails a Shooting Star Press for the 3 count. Crowd went crazy for the finish.
Taka Michinoku vs Super Loco Super Crazy is wearing a mask now as Taka gets sent outside & Loco nails a Sasuke Special! Moonsault revolution as Loco hits 3 of them (what’d become VINTAGE Super Crazy) for a 2 count. 10 punches in the corner, but Taka powerbombs out of it with a 2 count. Tornado DDT gets another 2 off a cocky Taka cover. Running double stomps & a senton gets another near fall as he nails a spin wheel kick & is just toying with Loco at this point. He sends Loco to the corner & we get a kick up rewind hurricanana as Taka nails a dropkick off the top. He goes for the Michinoku Driver, but Loco floats over into a snap DDT. Loco tries for a cross body off the top & Taka hits a dropkick in mid air, then plants Loco with a Michinoku Driver for the 3. This was a solid match & Taka took a majority of it.
June 13 Pantera vs Jesus Cristobal Within seconds, Cristobal hits a somersault plancha as Pantera gets enough time to recover & get back inside, putting the boots to Cristobal. Hard chops by Pantera, but Cristobal nails a snap powerslam for 1. To the top, Cristobal nails a missile dropkick to the back of the head, sending Pantera flying outside, where he’s met with another slingshot cross body. Moonsault attempt misses, but Cristobal lands on his feet & Pantera knocks him to the floor. He gets knocked down by Pantera, who hits his running somersault senton on the floor. Pantera charges & takes down Cristobal with a head scissors off the top, but only gets 2. Pantera wants a pop up powerbomb, but Crisobal gets a rana pin for 2. To the apron Cristobal goes & hits a slingshot legdrop, then goes up top, missing a huge frog splash. Backslide by Pantera gets the 3 count.
Papi Chulo vs TAKA Michinoku Former Light Heavyweight Champion vs Future Light Heavyweight Champion is our main event here as Taka boots Chulo down & nails some thrust chops to the throat. Pop up dropkick sends Taka outside, but Chulo crashes & burns on a dive and Taka mocks him. Flying forearm by Taka, but Chulo answers with a spin kick sending Taka outside, where he connects with a massive Asaii Moonsault that takes us to break. Back & Chulo is crotched on the ropes and slapped in the face by Taka, who tries a rana, but Chulo powerbombs out for 2. Chulo hits another sit out powerbomb for 2, but Taka fights out of the corner with a Tornado DDT, getting only 2. He can’t believe it, so he paint brushes Chulo in the face, but gets sent to the corner & slammed down. Chulo hits his Shooting Star Press, getting only about 15% of it 1…2…FOOT ON THE ROPE! Chulo is shocked, so he takes the ref, allowing Super Loco to hit the ring & drop Taka with a headbutt, so it’s safe to assume he loaded the mask, which right on cue, he pulled something from his mask as Chulo put a knee on Taka for 3.
June 20 Super Loco vs Funaki Funaki wants revenge for Taka from last week as we get a fast start & sunset flip by Funaki that Loco rolls through & slingshots Funaki to the floor. Huge, I mean huge dive off the top rope wipes out Funaki, but he poses too close to the ropes & pulled to the floor, allowing Funaki to send him into the steps. Back inside, Funaki gets reversed & eats a spin wheel kick for a Loco 2. Punches out of the corner result in a Funaki powerbomb for 2. Flying forearm & bulldog combo by Funaki gets another near fall for Funaki. He misses a corner splash & gets slammed down so Loco hits two of his 3 moonsaults, with Funaki getting a knee up on the third. Funaki goes for a cross body off the top, but Loco rolls through & hooks the tights for 3. Post match, Loco forgets he is heel & high fives some fans, but realizes it and then brushes them off.
Max Mini vs Mini Nova Nova hits a spin wheel kick to start & he tries for a second one, but gets caught & swept as Mini hits chops before nailing a boot in the corner. Bronco Buster by Mini, but Nova answers with a spinning sit out powerbomb for 2. Tilt a whirl backbreaker by Nova gets a 2, but Max takes back control with a head scissors & springing arm drag off the second. Nova gets a boot to the chest but as he tries a head scissors out of the corner, gets slammed right on his face. Nova spills outside after a pin attempt, so Max tries a double axe off the apron & crashes into the barricade. Nova tries to send him into the steps, but Max hits a head scissors as both get back inside. Nova nearly gets a victory roll for 2 as this has turned into a mini brawl. Camel Clutch applied by Max, who tries to unmask Nova, but is unsuccessful. Max goes to the second rope for a Tornado DDT & hits it, gets a small package (no pun intended) for the 3 count!
El Merenguero vs Miguel Perez They’ve done a good job building this as Perez hits a big time back body drop & dropkick sending Merenguero outside. Perez out after his former Boricua running buddy & hits a snap powerslam back inside for 2. Commercial break & when we return, it’s still Perez in control with clotheslines. Corner clothesline this time as Perez is relentless on his attack, shoving the official down in the process. Merenguero does the same & the ref is out. It’s a slug fest, which is when SAVIO VEGA hits the ring & separates the two. The former leader of the Boricuas does his best to keep them apart & we learn that next week we’ll see Perez vs Merenguero with Savio as the special referee.
June 27 Papi Chulo & Super Loco vs TAKA Michinoku & Funaki Kaientai gets the hot start with Taka backdropping Chulo to the outside, but Funaki tries a dive, only to wipe out his partner. Loco leap frogs Chulo for a dive as we head back in the ring. Chulo is doing odd crotch chops while on the apron to the crowd, not realizing Loco was getting beat up in the ring. Finally Taka & Chulo tag in and Taka starches him with a slap. Camel Clutch/Dropkick combo by Kaientai as we head to break. Back & it’s Chulo in control of Funaki with a leaping back elbow and he tags Loco, who hits his revolution moonsaults & Chulo with a 450. Taka breaks up the pin as Funaki hits a desperation bulldog to get the hot tag from Taka. Tornado DDT on Chulo & one for Loco as well. Chulo floats over a Michinoku Driver into a German suplex & gets the 3 on Taka, but wait, the ref raises Taka’s hand and we see that Taka’s shoulder came up with Chulo’s shoulders down! Kaientai wins!
El Merenguero vs Miguel Perez Guest Referee: Savio Vega Perez hits the ring & delivers a big back body drop as they trade pin attempts & Perez dropkicks Merenguero to the outside & nails a slingshot plancha. Back inside, Perez tries to grab a chair, but Savio takes it from him, allowing Merenguero to get a low blow. Merenguero picks apart Perez for a near fall as we go to break. We return and Merenguero still has the same chin lock applied with Perez fighting back to his feet, only to eat a knee to the midsection. Savio keeps reprimanding Merenguero for closed fists, but Perez moves away from a corner splash & begins his comeback. Some corner punts as Perez just keeps throwing right hands and Savio finally pulls him away. Merenguero tries to hit Perez with a weapon (a musical instrument he brought to the ring), but Savio wrestles it away from him, but the momentum causes Savio to smack Perez with it as Merenguero covers Perez & Savio reluctantly makes the count. The finish was actually solid, but the rest of the match sucked. They’ve built this match & feud for quite a while and it didn’t deliver one bit.
July 4 Miguel Perez vs Apollo Dantes Hip toss, arm drag, arm bar gets the standard start for Perez as they go through the motions again, this time Perez with a backslide for 2, then another arm drag. Dantes ducks a clothesline & pops Perez one with one of his own as he follows with a running splash & choke in the corner. Missile dropkick gets Apollo 2 off a cocky cover, lowers his head & Perez boots/clotheslines & corner dropkicks him to regain control. High back body drop as El Merenguero makes his way to the ring & hops on the apron. Savio Vega does the same as Dantes becomes distracted & Perez rolls him up for the 3! Perez can’t believe it and neither can Merenguero & Dantes as they all are shocked Savio showed up. Maybe he was trying to make it up to Perez for last week? Makes sense.
Battalion vs Max Mini Max tried a springing arm drag, but literally just bounced off Battalion, who just stood there. Finally Max sends him outside & nails a somersault dive through the middle rope & we get a reset in the ring as Battalion just swats Max like a gnat. He hits a lariat that folds Max up, dropping him right on his head as he murders poor Max in the corner with a splash. Again, Max’s head smacked hard in the corner as he moves & Battalion misses another splash. Rana off the apron outside by Max, but Battalion takes over just like that as we go to break. Battalion flat out potatoes Max with a right & clothesline to follow. Finally Max hits a spinning head scissors & arm drag, then quickly goes up top for a somersault plancha outside!! He’s clutching his hip in pain as Battalion, who is much bigger than Max, barely catches him. Max does a wheelbarrow arm drag, but lands right on his face, so Battalion hits a powerbomb & standard elbow drop for the 3 count. Max took a fucking beating in this one as Battalion was also stiff as hell.
Giant Silva vs Pantera Silva is still around & rocking the ICP music in July of 99, which is the most surprising aspect of this whole show. Pantera gets just rag dolled around by the big man as he almost dares Pantera to bodyslam him and he fails, obviously. Silva just slams him down, hits a back body drop & leg drop! Big time clothesline in the corner as Silva just chops Pantera down repeatedly as he bodyslams him down and SILVA GOES TO THE TOP ROPE with a SUPERFLY SILVA SPLASH for the 3 count!! HOLY SHIT!! That one move made this entire rewatch worth it, just to get to this moment. I’m talking the entire rewatch, WCW and everything.

Holy shit, Giant Silva took it to the sky! Never seen him do that, but the guy was an accomplished basketball player before wrestling.

Holy shit, Giant Silva took it to the sky! Never seen him do that, but the guy was an accomplished basketball player before wrestling. I thought they could've done more with Silva instead of being just a goof in the Oddities who mostly stood outside and had Kurrgan & Golga wrestle. Maybe they didn't want him doing moves like that while other giants were in the company? Hide him doing this on Super Astros where American fans would never see it (or see it 21 years later).
He was apparently released in February 99 (according to Wikipedia) and he was brought back in the middle of the year, which was weird, since he was used like twice this entire series.

July 11 I dug what they did on this episode, as they covered the feud between Miguel Perez, El Merenguero & Savio Vega’s involvement. It’s the main feud of this program & really has been for some time, so it’s cool to see them put a lot of time into this, especially since next week we’ll get Merenguero vs Perez once again.
Armando Fernandez vs El Bandido This was a re-air of their match on the March 28 episode that Armando won with his spinning Angels Wings. Ironically, this replay was the last we’d see of either man on this show, which I don’t know if injuries played into it, maybe they just got released, not sure. Fernandez seemed like he was going to be a main star of this show when the series started, but he just fell into the background as the Merenguero/Perez feud took shape.
July 18 El Torito & Batallion vs Mini Nova & Max Mini I must’ve missed the part where Nova was unmasked as I don’t recall it happening on this program. Anyways, Torito simply stands in the middle of the ring & gores Max to the floor with his head as the rudos take over on Nova. Superkick by Torito, but tries once too many & wipes out his partner. Max charges in, but accidentally takes out Nova as well. So we’re back to Torito & Max as the big man spins Max around by his ears! Head stand in the corner by Max, who hits a head scissors & springing spinning head scissors before hitting his running rana outside. Tag to Nova (a tag, imagine that) as he wipes out Battalion with a wild wheel barrow arm drag that sends Battalion outside, so Max hits a springboard cross body off the second! Nova hits the ropes & wipes out Torito with a tope suicida through the bottom rope, but Battalion recovers & beats down Nova inside. TORITO MURDERS POOR MAX FACE FIRST ON THE RING STEPS in brutal fashion as they signal for the end, but Nova hits a diving victory roll off the top on Battalion and Max gets La Magistral on Torito for dueling pins!
El Merenguero vs Miguel Perez Before the main event, we see Savio Vega found by smokeshow interviewer Maria laid out as he was supposed to be the guest referee for this match. After the commercial Savio has recovered slightly, but has an ice pack on his head as Perez checks on him. We go to the ring after break & boots in the corner for Perez as he clocks Merenguero with a lariat as he launches his opponent to the floor. To the steps goes Merenguero as Perez actually gets the crowd into it, so he smacks Merenguero into the steps yet again. Standing moonsault in the ring gets a 2 count as Perez hits a side Russian leg sweep as Merenguero clutches his leg, saying he’s hurt, only to sucker Perez in with a lariat, his first offensive move of this match. We get a ref bump as Merenguero grabs his noise maker to use a weapon, but Savio Vega hits the ring, grabs the weapon away & SMACKS MERENGUERO as Perez makes the cover for the 3 count! Perez gets his win back from last month.
July 25 Max Mini vs El Torito Max charges in the corner to start, but eats a big boot as Max steps back and taunts Torito with a bull fighting stance. He sends Torito to the floor, climbs up top & nails his twisting corkscrew cross body as the crowd is fully behind Max. Back inside, Torito presses Max high over his head & chucks him to the corner, nailing a headbutt to the outside. Press slam into the ring steps destroys Max like last week as he tries it again, only for Max to drive Torito into it. Pretty cool round the world arm drag sends Torito back outside & Max hits an Asaii Moonsault from the second rope! Like always, Torito recovers first & slams Max down inside, goes to the second, only to get cut off. Torito tries a super powerbomb, but Max spins out into an avalanche arm drag, quickly goes up top, frog splash & La Magistral for the 3 count. Crowd popped huge for the finish.
Papi Chulo vs Pantera Chulo knocks Pantera down, then does a standing moonsault, but takes a back bump off it to drop an elbow drop. That seemed innovative, but looked stupid. Anyways, Pantera fights back with a super rana off the top for 2, then nails his murder somersault senton plancha to a downed (on his belly) Chulo, which is terrifying. Back inside, Chulo does some more unnecessary flips & just pops Pantera with a superkick. Vicious corner chops as Chulo does a flip onto the apron, but poses for some reason, so Pantera hits a massive head scissors off the top sending both tumbling hard outside. Dive through the corner of the post by Pantera as he tries a rana back inside, but Chulo uses the ropes as a slingshot to hit a powerbomb. Shooting Star Press connects and Chulo gets the 3 count.
Miguel Perez vs Apollo Dantes We go literally 5 seconds before going to commercial as we return to Dantes choking away in the ropes, misses a clothesline & diving cross body by Perez gets 2. Quick lariat by Apollo as he slams Perez down, goes up, dives & eats a boot to the face. Perez fights back with a back body drop, then some rights as he levels Dantes with a corner clothesline, then another one. El Merenguero makes his presence felt as he hands Dantes his noise maker, but Perez takes the ref & Savio Vega hits the ring, grabs the weapon, smacking Dantes as Perez quickly makes the cover for the win. Savio continues to be a thorn in the side of El Merenguero.
August 1 Papi Chulo & El Merenguero vs Miguel Perez & Jose Estrada Perez & Estrada attack at the bell, as we start with Chulo & Perez, who catches Chulo kicks and flips him twice, but both times, Papi lands on his feet. Head scissors by Chulo and a hurricanrana for 2. Tag to their partners, Merenguero flips out of a hip toss, but Estrada lariats him down and they tumble to the floor with a hurricanrana. Perez nails a slingshot cross body & they send Merenguero into the steps as we get back inside & Perez takes the fight to Merenguero while we go to break. Back & Perez still in control, but Chulo clips him & Merenguero nails a spin kick. They take turns beat Perez down as Chulo nails a flying Bronco Buster, but Merenguero & Perez knock heads and we have a double down. Tag to Estrada & Chulo, who for some reason goes to the top & flips, landing on his feet, so Estrada just potatoes him with a right. High back body drop & then a right hand to a groggy Merenguero, who he gorilla press slams. Perez dropkicks him to the floor as Estrada looks for a monkey flip, but Merenguero clocks him with the noise maker & Chulo covers him for the win.
Apollo Dantes vs Pantera Fast start by Pantera, who hits a hip toss & wheel kick, clotheslining Dantes outside & hits a Tope Con Hilo through the ropes, landing on his head in the process. Back inside, Pantera tries a cross body, but caught & slammed. Dantes knocks Pantera to the floor & connects with a Tope Suicida & tosses him back in, flattening him with a powerbomb for 1. He goes to the top & crashes off a missed splash, so Pantera gets La Magistral for the 3 count. Not the best match, but it was ok.
August 8 Jose Estrada vs El Merenguero Savio Vega is on commentary for this one as Estrada goes after Merenguero outside & tosses him inside, but eats a back elbow. Merenguero charges & Estrada nails a powerslam for 2. Running neckbreaker by Merenguero, who puts the boots to his former Los Boricuas running mate, chucking him outside. He’s not a high flyer, so he just drives Estrada into the steps & back to the ring. Papi Chulo walks to the ring, rubbing his chest creepily & does a spin move pose to a fan ringside, which is hilarious. Merenguero just picking apart Estrada as Chulo continues to pose, until Miguel Perez walks to the ring. Finally Estrada mounts his comeback after a while with a back drop & boots in the corner as Merenguero begs off. Big gorilla press slam, but Estrada posts himself as Chulo is about to hit him with the noise maker, but Perez stops him and they brawl in the ring. All 4 men are brawling until Savio Vega jumps off commentary to slam Chulo down. Merenguero gets in his face & walks away with Chulo as Savio is wondering what is wrong with Merenguero & Chulo, which, do you watch the show Savio? They’re the villains, bad guys, rudos, you know this, get it together, Kwang.
Apollo Dantes & Papi Chulo vs Pantera & Sean Casey We’ve never seen Sean Casey before, but here he is, late in the series. Pantera flips Chulo, who lands on his feet & clocks him with a wheel kick and powerslam as Chulo poses too long & gets crotched in the corner. Pantera hits a top rope super hurricanrana as Chulo tags Dantes, who goes right after Pantera. Casey tags in & drops a double axe as we go to break & when we return, everyone is laid out due to dives by the babyfaces. We never see them, despite this being a taped show, which, whatever. Pantera & Dantes are the legal men as Apollo backdrops & powerbombs Pantera, dropping an elbow for 1. Pantera hates selling for more than 1 count for Dantes I’ve learned. Pantera dropkicks Dantes down & tags in Casey, who gets a few shots in, but misses a corner splash & gets slammed down. Dantes goes up top, connects with a splash for 1, as Pantera breaks it up, only to get backdropped outside. Tope Suicida by Dantes, as Chulo hops in & murders poor Casey with a powerbomb & Shooting Star Press for the 3.
Only 3 episodes left in the series!

August 15 Miguel Perez vs Papi Chulo Perez literally chops Chulo out of the air to start as he boots him in the face & chops away at Papi in the corner. Super stiff clothesline as he dropkicks Chulo to the floor & they do that catch a kick, full flip spot by Chulo, only he gets clocked from behind & lands right on his face. It’s all Perez, before El Merenguero makes his way ringside & we see Savio Vega watching backstage. Chulo punches Perez right in the face to regain control and slaps on a rest hold. Perez fights his way out & starches Papi with rights & a big time lariat, then another one! He lowers his head & Chulo slams him down, goes to the top as Merenguero tries to toss him the noise maker, but he stumbles off the top, gets rolled up & Perez gets the win. Post match, Merenguero attacks Perez to try to make it up to Chulo as they beat down Miguel to end the show. Savio is upset backstage & says something, which I have no idea what.
Pantera vs El Merenguero The masked man attacks with a wheel kick & quickly goes outside, where he slams Merenguero into the steps. Flying cross body back inside, but Merenguero rolls through with a 2 count. Snap powerslam gets him another 2 count, then tosses Pantera outside. He tosses Pantera into the steps that have already been knocked apart, so he does a backslide on them & it’s pretty cool. Slowly back in, Merenguero drops a leg in the ropes as he gets a rest hold. Pantera escapes, but runs into a high knee as Papi Chulo makes his way ringside. Butterfly suplex for 2, but Merenguero argues with the ref, giving Pantera a roll up for 2. Another rest hold by Merenguero, but Pantera makes yet another comeback. Oddly, Pantera whips Merenguero into the ropes, Pantera takes the ref quick, so Chulo can accidentally hit Merenguero, Pantera hits a DDT and wins it. Post match, Merenguero attacks Chulo for costing him the match and Apollo Dantes hits the ring to attack Merenguero. Chulo & Dantes keep the attack going as Pantera just watches this happen and JOINS IN on the beating. Savio Vega hits the ring with a chair, running them off, literally tossing the chair into Dantes to end the show. The match was boring, but the post match was interesting. Savio, who has been interacting with Merenguero for a few months, helps him out.
August 22 Apollo Dantes (w/Papi Chulo) vs Miguel Perez Head scissors by Perez, as Dantes pops up, charges and gets back dropped outside. Perez nails a slingshot spinning cross body and heads back in. I should also point out, Pantera is ringside as well, but he came out by himself. Dantes dropkicks Perez down, getting a rest hold briefly as he releases it & nails a corner clothesline. Pantera just walks over & stands with Chulo, so he’s fully heel now, I guess. Standing dropkick by Dantes, who works the leg momentarily before going back to the rest hold. He goes up top & wants a splash, hits it 1…2…Perez kicks out. Out of nowhere, Perez gets a roll up & the win in a match that pretty much sucked. Post match, Chulo & Pantera jump in to beat Perez down and they hit a Shield TRIPLE POWERBOMB! Officials try stopping this, but they keep the attack up as we go backstage after this and see Savio, Jose Estrada & El Merenguero all checking on Perez with the doctors. Los Boricuas are reuniting before our eyes!
El Merenguero vs Papi Chulo (w/Pantera & Apollo Dantes) Hard corner chops & a flying splash by Chulo as he levels Merenguero with a spinning kick, then lights him up with more kicks. Wild Tope Con Hilo clears the ring post to the floor as Chulo poses for the fans & chucks Merenguero into the steps. Chulo goes to the top, but gets crotched & Merenguero hits a massive superplex, almost landing right on his own head in the process. Hip toss reversed by Chulo, who gets backdropped high over the top to the floor & Merenguero HITS A TOPE SUICIDA!! We don’t see Merenguero do many dives on Super Astros, but he’s busting it out here towards the end of the series. Back body drop as Pantera hops on the apron & gets clocked. He takes the ref as Apollo sends in a chair & Chulo cracks Merenguero from behind and picks up the pin. Post match, the 3 rudos put the boots to Merenguero as this is just like the previous match, but Jose Estrada hits the ring to make the save, but gets beat down. Miguel Perez rushes to the ring and evens the sides as we have a 6 man brawl as Savio Vega is shown watching from the ramp nodding in his approval of Los Boricuas working together, standing tall as the rudos retreat. Savio comes to the ring and offers his hand to Merenguero and all the Boricuas reunite!
August 29 Mini Nova vs Max Mini Arm drag by Max, who tries a school boy, but Nova literally just sits on his back, then tries again, as Max hits an atomic drop. Oddly, Nova tries to run his ass into the referee, confusing everyone as Nova hits a springboard dropkick, but MAX HITS A STUNNER, then starts punting Nova in the ass. Max charges & hits a BRONCO BUSTER, but Nova gorilla presses Max, then launches him into the ropes throat first. Max with a head scissors, but misses a dropkick as Nova spills outside and Max hits a huge second rope quebrada! Nova is the first one up though as we have a reset inside as Nova airplane spins Max down. Max springs up and goes to the second, hitting a dropkick right to the face of Nova for 2, but Nova bodyslams Max down for 2 of his own. Tornado DDT by Max, who gets a victory roll 1…2…3!! They put up the wrong graphic that says Nova won the match, but it was Max who was victorious.
Papi Chulo, Apollo Dantes & Pantera vs El Merenguero, Miguel Perez & Jose Estrada (w/Savio Vega) Here we go the final match in Super Astros history and Los Boricuas walk out together, with Savio, to their entrance theme! Flying senton off the apron by Dantes as Merenguero & Perez nail dueling dives. Dantes takes the fight to Estrada as things settle down & tags Pantera, who shoots Estrada into Chulo and a hurricanrana as Dantes dropkicks him to the floor & Pantera hits a dive! Merenguero hits a dive! Dantes hits a dive! Perez hits a dive! Chulo hits a dive! Literally everyone except Estrada hits a dive as he gorilla presses Pantera down before tagging Merenguero, who nails a spin kick. Dantes in & gets German suplexed on his head as Perez tags in, standing moonsault for 2. Chulo trips up Miguel as we have a scuffle before heading to our final break. When we return, Dantes is in control of Perez, who he dropkicks down for 1. Dantes puts a rest hold on, as Pantera takes the ref, allowing Perez to recover & hit a flying forearm for 2. That was odd. Dantes takes the ref now and the heels put the boots to Perez as Dantes misses a splash. Tag to Merenguero, who backdrops Pantera and Estrada wipes out Chulo. 6 man brawl as Merenguero & Pantera stay in the ring, as Pantera hits a moonsault off the second, goes for a top rope one, but gets crotched & Merenguero hits the MERENGUERO PLEX FOR THE 3!! Los Boricuas celebrate as we go off the air the last time, with each Boricua at a corner posing.
Were the matches very repetitive at times, absolutely, but for what it was, Super Astros was a really entertaining show. It had one on-going feud/story that actually built up to a cool climax on the last episode. It was something different and a show I had never seen in my life aside from little clips I caught on occasion the few weeks it aired in my area. Apparently $17,000 went into each episode, then Vince wanted to renegotiate and up it to $50,000 a week from Univision and make it a 1 hour show, but was turned down. Bruce said Univision was concerned their audience for the show was primarily American and not Hispanic, so they couldn’t sell it to advertisers. The audience the WWF delivered wasn’t the audience that Univision wanted, thus spelling the end to Super Astros.

What's next? More like Who's Next?
The Streak
Ok, so I found a pretty solid list of guys that were involved in Goldberg's famous streak in WCW and decided to watch them all. And by all, I mean all of them that are available online. There's quite a few House Show matches on the list that I found (45 to be exact) against guys like Bobby Eaton, Brad Armstrong, Mongo, Yuji Nagata, Buddy Lee Parker, Jerry Flynn, Finlay, Saturn, Konnan, Sting, Curt Hennig, Giant, Scott Hall & Bam Bam. Some of those guys (like Saturn and Giant) he fought 9 & 10 times respectively, so unless anyone can track those down, those matches won't be included on the list. This will be TV/PPVs only, unless I can find some dark matches (which I have). The official count was 172-0, but that was exaggerated, so you're getting MOST of the matches. I will warn you, some of this wasn't pretty. Goldberg was sloppy as shit at times, but when he was straight up murdering dudes, there was no one like him.
Bill Goldberg vs Hugh Morrus - Nitro September 22, 1997 Here we are, match 1. They trade counters working each other’s arm as Goldberg gets a leg lock, but Morrus with a rope break. Diving corner clothesline by Morrus, who goes up top & hits No Laughing Matter 1…2…KICK OUT! He can’t believe it as he hits a back elbow & Goldberg back flips before hitting a powerslam, then a bodyslam, finally putting away Morrus with a Jackhammer for the 3 in his debut.
Bill Goldberg vs Barbarian - Nitro September 29, 1997 Shoulder blocks have no effect as Barb tries for a powerslam, but Goldberg wiggles free & does a weird takedown and corner clothesline for 2. Goldberg seems to have lost his place briefly so he just dropkicks Barb outside & goes out to get him. Goldberg goes up top & Barb cuts him off with a belly to belly for 2 (as we see this in picture in picture with commentary reviewing Goldberg’s debut). Barb is lighting up Goldberg with corner shots & a snap powerslam for 2. Goldberg back drops out of a powerbomb, hits a knee drop, then a Jackhammer for the 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Roadblock - Saturday Night October 11, 1997 Goldberg no sells a clothesline as he gets a school boy, but apparently it’s a leg hold & it’s just awkward looking. Rope break as Roadblock gets a cheap shot, misses a clothesline & Goldberg hits a shoulder block. Goldberg bounces out of the corner & Roadblock hits a huge belly to belly for 2. Goldberg hits the ropes & does a spinning heel kick “showing us the Oriental Arts” says Dusty as he hits the Jackhammer on the 400 pounder for the win. Early Goldberg career, sadly not a lot of people gave a shit, but that Jackhammer was impressive as hell.
Bill Goldberg vs Scotty Riggs - Nitro October 13, 1997 Riggs gets launched by Goldberg early, but he fights back with boots, only for Goldberg to hit a SPEAR. This wasn’t his set up for his finish yet, so he keeps throwing rights to a downed Riggs. The American Male hits a dropkick sending Goldberg over the top & he tries a slingshot cross body, but gets caught & slammed onto the railing. Back inside, Goldberg hits a Jackhammer for the win.
Bill Goldberg vs Wrath - Nitro October 20, 1997 Wrath doesn’t even get his jacket & helmet off before Goldberg hits a SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. I wonder if this even was Wrath, we never saw his face! Throw Jerry Flynn in there or Rick Fuller.
Bill Goldberg vs Mike Anthony - Saturday Night October 25, 1997 Anthony gets a few shots to the ribs, but Goldberg does his leg lock. Rope break as Goldberg allows Anthony to hit a few dropkicks before dropping him with a SPEAR. Anthony actually fights back with a spin kick, but Goldberg presses him to the fucking moon before hitting a gut buster. Jackhammer, 3 count, that ends it. Anthony got so much more offense than I expected.
Bill Goldberg vs Disco Inferno – WCW Television Title - Nitro October 27, 1997 So this wasn’t an actual match, but it was included in the list I found, so, whatever. Alex Wright shoves Goldberg from behind while making his entrance, so he backhands Das Wunderkind, tosses him in the ring, SPEAR, Jackhammer & kicks him out. Disco is laughing his ass off, but Goldberg knees, SPEAR & Jackhammers him too. The match never began. Mongo hits the ring & Goldberg shoots a double leg and we get a pull apart to end the segment. Rough 2 nights for Disco, who was the TV champ at the time, jobbing to Jacqueline the night before at Halloween Havoc and getting literally squashed by Goldberg here. At least he didn’t lose his title.
Bill Goldberg vs Renegade - Saturday Night November 1, 1997 Renegade has Marc Mero’s theme song as Goldberg sprints to the ring SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. Record time, even for Goldberg.
Bill Goldberg vs Mark Starr - Nitro November 9, 1997 Starr tries an arm lock, but gets just slammed down for his efforts as Goldberg hits a dragon screw leg whip & stares down Starr in the corner. Big time powerslam as he chokes Starr in the corner, shoots him to the other side, but eats an elbow & big boot. Starr leaps off the second, gets caught & Goldberg hits a shoulder breaker as he sets it up, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Manny Fernandez - Saturday Night December 13, 1997 Bell sounds & Goldberg hits a Spear, just not as impressive as it’d become in a few months. Backbreaker by Goldberg, who just ragdolls the big Fernandez & throws some bad looking boots as Fernandez gets 1 punch, which the crowd popped for & Goldberg just beat him down. He massacres him with a short arm lariat, then more boots in the corner as he botches a spinning neckbreaker, then hits the Jackhammer properly for the 3. So even 2 minutes was too long for Goldberg in his first few months. Not good.
Bill Goldberg vs Frankie Lancaster - Saturday Night December 14, 1997 Goldberg with knees to the gut & axe handles to the back as Lancaster tries to scatter away, but gets starched with a clothesline as a result. He does get a back elbow & right hand, but walks into a side suplex by Goldberg. SPEAR 1…2…Lancaster kicks out!! Goldberg hits the Jackhammer for the 3. First dude I’ve seen kick out of the Spear (I know it’s early Goldberg), so Frankie Lancaster is a Legend!
Bill Goldberg vs Renegade - Saturday Night December 27, 1997 Let’s see if this goes any longer than their first meeting? Bell sounds, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. To answer my question, nope.
Bill Goldberg vs Steve McMichael - Starrcade 97 December 28, 1997 Starrcade 97 as these two brawl like madmen at the aisle as Goldberg hoists Mongo over his shoulder and carries him to the ring before getting a table. He gives up on it though as Mongo is waiting to beat his ass back inside, which he does. Terrible and I mean TERRIBLE kicks to the ribs by Mongo, who hits a sloppy side suplex for 1. Goldberg hits a flying shoulder for 2, then just tosses Mongo back outside. Mongo fights back, slamming Goldberg into the table before going to the top rope as Goldberg just punches him in the ribs in mid air. The scary bad leg lock appears as Mongo has no idea how to sell it. Goldberg gives it up & just tosses Mongo down like a sack of potatoes. SPEAR for a 1…Goldberg just gives up the pin attempt to go get the table & set it up ringside. Mongo is on the apron & throws shoulders to the gut before he eats a knee, Goldberg smiles & hits 1 punch sending Mongo falling through the table. Goldberg sends Mongo back inside, and MONGO IS UP BEFORE GOLDBERG as he tries for the Mongo Spike piledriver, but drops Goldberg & can’t get him up due to the sore back. Jackhammer kills Mongo for the 1…2…3. My goodness, that match was terrible.
Bill Goldberg vs Glacier - Nitro December 29, 1997 Chops & kicks by Glacier, but Goldberg clocks him with a clothesline & a modified powerbomb. SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. Mike Tenay says Glacier had only lost twice in his entire WCW career up to this point. Which, I highly question.

What the FUCK was Manny Fernandez doing in WCW in 1997!? Dude, I about lost my shit when Frankie Lancaster kicked out of a Spear, haha. These job guys got more offense on young William than guys like Giant ever did.

Bill Goldberg vs Stevie Ray - Nitro January 5, 1998 Goldberg is the one who attacks at the bell as Stevie rolls out of a powerslam & hits a back suplex. Flying clothesline by Stevie gets a 2 count, but eats a back elbow out of the corner & a clothesline. Goldberg just steam rolls Stevie with a powerslam and knee drop before slapping on a fucking rest hold, the first time I’ve seen that thus far. Stevie fights back and throws the referee down, allowing Goldberg to hit a SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Steve McMichael - Thunder January 8, 1998 DIVE THROUGH THE ROPES BY MONGO starts this off as Goldberg quickly fights back & they brawl ringside. We finally get in the ring and Goldberg presses Mongo over his head into a powerslam. Short arm clothesline, then rolling leg lock as Mongo gets the ropes, clips the leg of Goldberg & hits a diving clothesline off the second for a 1 count. 3 point stance clips the leg once, twice, but Goldberg pops up & no sells, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Barry Horowitz - Saturday Night January 10, 1998 Horowitz has his back turned & patting himself of the back as the bell sounds. He turns around and gets SPEARED, then Jackhammered for the easy victory. You’re better than this Barry!
Bill Goldberg vs Jerry Flynn - Nitro January 12, 1998 Flynn with a kick & leg takedown, but Goldberg reverses into an arm breaker, as they trade mounting each other with punches. Quick start as Goldberg does his leg lock pretty accurately this week as Flynn gets the ropes. Arm triangle by Flynn as Goldberg powerbombs out of it. Flynn hits a kick, but Goldberg hits the ropes SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Chavo Guerrero Jr. - Thunder January 15, 1998 Chavo made his entrance, but Disco Inferno (in his snazziest shirt) interrupted, ultimately dropping Chavito with a Chartbuster stunner. Goldberg came out and hit a Spear & Jackhammer on Disco. That was literally it. I have no idea why this match was listed on Goldberg’s streak list.
Bill Goldberg vs Kendall Windham - Thunder January 22, 1998 Legsweep by Goldberg as he does the somersault leg submission as Goldberg himself lands on his head in the process as Kendall gets the rope break. Kendall levels Goldberg with a clothesline & some rights, but Goldberg no sells, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Mike Tolbert - Saturday Night January 24, 1998 Tolbert attacks, but Goldberg gets some knees, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. Clearly Bill had to use the bathroom, he was quickly to the back.
Bill Goldberg vs Brad Armstrong - Nitro January 26, 1998 Brad wears a sweatshirt that says Armstrong Curse as he attacks at the bell, but Goldberg just stares at him. Gorilla Press pops the crowd as he hits a powerslam out of it. Brad rolls to the floor, but Goldberg quickly sends him back inside, choking him high in the air, slamming him down with ease. Brad avoids a corner splash, but Goldberg put the brakes on, turns around, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Yuji Nagata - Thunder January 29, 1998 Jerry Lee Lewis is sitting in the second row and in front of him, Raven’s Flock, which is hysterical. Leg kicks & forearms by Nagata, who gets a takedown into an arm bar, but Goldberg quickly escapes & just chokes Nagata. Hip toss blocked as Goldberg sinks in a leg lock, as Nagata gets the ropes. Nagata keeps throwing kicks & tries a suplex, but Goldberg turns it into a spinning neckbreaker. SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count & he easily puts away the future IWGP Champion.
Bill Goldberg vs Meng - Saturday Night January 31, 1998 Meng no sells a clothesline, so Goldberg does, even for him, the sloppiest leg takedown you’ll ever see. Meng pops up & Goldberg hits a spinebuster, but Meng gets the takedown & spills into the ropes. Meng with big boots that drop Goldberg as he gets a Camel Clutch applied for 5 seconds. Literally the next few minutes is just punching each other in the corner, nothing is actually happening. Not sure if Meng is trying to blow Goldberg up, but it seems to be working. Crescent Kick finally clocks Goldberg as we are SEVEN MINUTES into this thing. Goldberg definitely seems gassed as he’s moving super slow, hands on his hips tired. GOLDBERG ALMOST KILLS MENG with a powerslam that drops Meng right on his head and it’s really uncomfortable to watch. Jimmy Hart goes up top & GOLDBERG ALMOST KILLS JIMMY dropping 100 pound Jimmy on his head as well. SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count as this was brutal to watch. He’s so gassed it’s scary. Also, enjoy the picture of Meng & Goldberg sharing pizza like gentlemen.

Randomone, your wrestling watching assignments are the perfect escape from the shitty world we live in.
And that Starrcade match with Mongo, while bad, doesn't hold a candle to Mongo vs. Bulldog from SuperBrawl in '98. Bulldog was the biggest loser in the entire Montreal situation IMO.

Bill Goldberg vs Mark Starr - Nitro February 2, 1998 It’s like Goldberg knows his opponent attacks him through the ropes as Starr does, so Goldberg gets a leg takedown, but Starr reverses into an ankle lock. Goldberg literally punches Starr right in the face. Did you know Goldberg’s spinning neckbreaker is called “His Corkscrew Manuever”? Thanks for that Tony! He never hits it in this match, instead he hits a SPEAR, Jackhammer & gets the 3.
Bill Goldberg vs Jim Powers - Thunder February 5, 1998 STO right away by Goldberg, then that weird leg lock somersault deal he does as Powers gets to the ropes. He chops away as Goldberg just stares at him, so he hits a knee lift & poses to the crowd. The former Young Stallion turns around SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Disco Inferno - Saturday Night February 7, 1998 Disco tries hooking a leg outside, but Goldberg brings him in by his neck, then botches a leg submission, so Disco bails to the ropes. Gorilla Press by Goldberg as he turns it into a powerslam. Disco actually gets in some rights & kicks, but Goldberg no sells, so Disco shoots a single leg & takes Goldberg down! He promptly gets booted away, Goldberg pops up, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. Shocked at the offense Disco got.
Bill Goldberg vs Lord Steven Regal - Nitro February 9, 1998 This is a pretty famous match as Goldberg works the arm as Regal reverses & gets taken down by the leg as Regal grabs the ropes. Goldberg gets a school boy, but Regal again gets the ropes. Judo throw by Regal, but head scissors reversal by Goldberg. Regal escapes & grabs a front face lock, but Goldberg gets an arm takedown. Regal reverses & dishes out some uppercuts and clips the leg of Goldberg, then hits some knees before Goldberg botches “his corkscrew maneuver” neckbreaker as Regal fights back in the corner. Open hand palm strikes by Regal, who charges out of the corner & Goldberg hits a SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. This match has taken on a life of its own and it’s not a “shoot fight” like many might lead you to believe. Regal wrestled Goldberg, he did his job. If he was going to get fired, it might be due to drug issues, not this match, he was fine here.
Bill Goldberg vs Glacier - Thunder February 12, 1998 Glacier attacks right as Bill gets in the ring, tries a leg sweep & Goldberg back flips out of it, which was cool. He hits a spinning neckbreaker, but Glacier hits just standard clubbing blows that Goldberg no sells. Back kick sends Goldberg into the ropes & he explodes out SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Joey Maggs - Saturday Night February 14, 1998 Bell sounds & Goldberg hits a SPEAR, then a Jackhammer for the win. Not kidding. Bill clearly had plans for Valentine’s Day.
Bill Goldberg vs Hugh Morrus - Nitro February 16, 1998 Morrus hits his spinning corner lariat, but Goldberg no sells as Morrus tries a suplex, but Goldberg lands on his feet, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. Lot quicker than his debut match!
Bill Goldberg vs Fit Finlay - Thunder February 19, 1998 Finlay attacks with his ring gear before the bell as he throws uppercuts that Goldberg no sells & hits a big boot. Gorilla Press high over his head & hits a gut buster out of it. Arguably the best his rolling leg lock has ever looked as Finlay gets the ropes. Everything Finlay is throwing is no sold by Bill, who literally just hugs Finlay, who eye pokes him. Sleeper by Finlay, which is immediately turned into an overhead throw. Goldberg misses a lariat, but Finlay comes in, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Jerry Flynn - Saturday Night February 21, 1998 Knees to the belly welly by Goldberg as Flynn bails to the floor. Back inside, Thunderfoot dishes out some kicks & takes Goldberg down, but they scramble on the mat & Flynn locks in a head triangle, only for Goldberg to slam him down. Of course, he tries the leg lock, but transitions into an arm triangle, Flynn to the ropes though. Flynn throws some kicks, but Goldberg presses him over his head into the powerslam, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. It looked insanely sloppy, but Flynn always got in a good amount of offense whenever he wrestled Goldberg.
Bill Goldberg vs Brad Armstrong - SuperBrawl VIII February 22, 1998 This is Superbrawl 98, which baffles me that this is a PPV match, but here we are. Brad is wearing a shirt that reads "Armstrong Curse" on it. Leg trip out of a full nelson by Goldberg as Brad throws some shots that have zero effect. Leg lock by Goldberg, that again, almost falls on his head in the process, as he presses Brad over his head & hits a powerslam. Overhead belly to belly, but Brad fights back with a Side Russian Legsweep, his finisher, but Goldberg pops up, Pump Handle overhead suplex, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Rick Fuller - Thunder February 26, 1998 Really crappy leg takedown for Goldberg to start as Fuller gets the ropes. We get another pretty sloppy takedown as Goldberg gets full mount & some rights before Fuller pops up, hits a big boot & Goldberg no sells. He just stands there & hits a SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.

I never really understood why the Goldberg / Regal match was always so controversial. I remember watching it live and thinking that it was cool actually seeing Goldberg wrestle somebody for longer than 45 seconds. I felt like it showed a different dimension to him, like "Hey, this guy can actually wrestle if he needs to." I guess Bischoff and Goldberg felt differently.

Bill Goldberg vs Sick Boy - Nitro March 2, 1998 Gorilla press within seconds as Sick Boy tries a springboard off the ropes, but Goldberg just choke slams him down. He botches another springboard badly & just gets punched in the face, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. Sick Boy botched 50% of his moves.
Bill Goldberg vs Vincent - Thunder March 5, 1998 Hot start from Virgil, who gets 4 clubbing forearms before Goldberg just throws him into the ropes SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. Back to the Olive Garden for poor Virgil.
Bill Goldberg vs Jerry Flynn - Saturday Night March 7, 1998 Flynn immediately hooks a leg for a takedown, but Goldberg with an arm triangle that Flynn shakes out of & we scramble before Goldberg gets a key lock & a rope break by Flynn. Flynn tries for an arm triangle of his own, but Goldberg powerbombs out of it. Flynn with some kicks that gets no sold, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. Bill ain’t got time for your kicks, Jerry!
Bill Goldberg vs Barry Darsow - Nitro March 9, 1998 Knees by Goldberg as he hits a shoulder block & gut wrench suplex as he backdrops Darsow down. Drop toe hold into an ankle pick but Darsow rakes the eyes & takes over momentarily, sending Goldberg into the post on the outside, working the arm. Back inside, Darsow keeps working the arm, but Goldberg hits the buckle, wakes up, SPEAR (with the bad arm mind you), Jackhammer, 3 count. Goldberg didn’t’ sell shit during this streak, so I can’t be too surprised with the zero selling.
Bill Goldberg vs Chase Tatum - Saturday Night March 14, 1998 We get a lock up & Goldberg again does his shitty leg lock that somehow turns into an arm bar, so he gives up doing anything else, shoots Tatum off the ropes, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. That leg lock has GOT TO GO, Bill!
Bill Goldberg vs Lodi - Nitro March 16, 1998 Lodi holds a sign saying Goldberg Is A Heathen as Goldberg presses him high over his head, slams him down, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. Lodi lasted much longer than I thought and yes, this went like 20 seconds.
Bill Goldberg vs Wayne Bloom - Thunder March 19, 1998 Full nelson by Bloom, but Goldberg reverses out & hits a slam out of it. Crowd already exploding as he hits some knees & a pump handle slam. Bloom gets in some rights & boots, but he sends Goldberg to the corner, who explodes out with a SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Renegade - Nitro March 23, 1998 Will the third time be the charm for the former TV Champion? Renegade hits his springboard handspring elbow, but Goldberg fires out of the corner with a SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. To his credit, this was the longest Renegade lasted as it went 30 seconds.
Bill Goldberg vs Jerry Flynn - Thunder March 26, 1998 Revenge of Lightningfoot as Flynn wants retribution from a few weeks ago. Belly to Belly release overhead by Goldberg as Flynn fights back with kicks and a leg sweep. Ankle lock applied as Goldberg reverses & hits a powerslam. Leaping arm triangle by Flynn as Goldberg powers him up into a powerbomb. Wheel kick to the head by Flynn, who tries a sleeper, but Goldberg snap mares him down. Flynn again fights back with kicks & a roundhouse in the corner as Goldberg just snorts, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Johnny Swinger - Saturday Night March 28, 1998 Bell doesn’t even sound as Goldberg charges & SPEARS Swinger, bell sounds, Jackhammer for the win. Goldberg talks to the camera & you can see a camera guy in the background trying to get the crowd to cheer & go crazy. These were clearly Johnny Swinger fans, let them mourn, geez.
Bill Goldberg vs Ray Traylor - Nitro March 30, 1998 Long lock up & both dish out shoulder blocks and neither move as Goldberg goes for one & suckers Traylor in with a lariat. Uppercut by Bossman, who works the arm, but Goldberg gets a takedown. BOSSMAN SLAM BY TRAYLOR, but Goldberg no sells and pops up, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. Poor Bossman.

That March 30th Nitro was one of those weeks where as a 17 year old WCW lifer, I felt like the balance was shifting. That was the night after WrestleMania 14 and it was the first time in the entire nWo era that I prioritized Raw over Nitro. That Nitro episode did feature the Jericho 1,004 holds segment but the main event was another shitty Hogan vs. Piper match. WCW was on life support and they didn't even know it.

Bill Goldberg vs Van Hammer - Nitro April 6, 1998 Leg sweep by Goldberg as Hammer tries for a hip toss, but gets slammed down. He charges & gets creamed with a clothesline as the crowd are on their feet. Jawbreaker by Hammer, who hits a sidewalk slam before he poses in the corner, leaps for an axe handle, but SPEAR in mid air! Jackhammer, 3 count and that does it. Pretty impressive Spear in this one.
Bill Goldberg vs Rocco Rock - Nitro April 13, 1998 Rocco tries a shoulder block & you know how that ended up. He does a flip selling a right hand, eats a back elbow as they spill outside where Rocco takes over. He slams Goldberg into the steps and has enough time to set up a table in the ring by the corner. Of course Goldberg pops into the ring & hits a SPEAR through the table, Jackhammer, 3 count. Bad move by The Flyboy.
Bill Goldberg vs Barry Darsow - Thunder April 16, 1998 Repo Man is next up to the plate as he works the arm for 2 seconds before Goldberg slams him down. Darsow tries a sunset flip, but gets punched in the face as Goldberg hits a huge hip toss. Darsow tries a cross body, but gets caught into a back breaker, so he gets an eye poke, as he throws Goldberg over the top rope. Goldberg leaps from the floor to the apron, springs in, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Saturn – Spring Stampede April 19, 1998 Spring Stampede as Goldberg hits a pump handle throw early, with an overhead belly to belly. Leg lock is broke up by Kidman ringside, so Goldberg just grabs him by the head & press slams him to the floor on Saturn, who takes over, going for the legs. Springboard legdrop & elbow off the second for 2. Goldberg avoids a suplex with his spinning neckbreaker & presses Saturn, hitting a catch slam. Saturn hits a T-Bone suplex, superkick & sends Goldberg outside. Missile dropkick off the apron sends Goldberg into the steps. Hurricanrana off the apron, but Saturn tries a moonsault off the second, but slips & they just both eat shit. Saturn just tosses Goldberg back inside & hits a spin kick off the top for 1. Prolonged arm bar by Saturn until Goldberg fights back with a side suplex. They mess up an Irish whip as Goldberg just throws a superkick, SPEAR, then signals for the end as The Flock takes the ref & Saturn gets a low blow. Saturn tries a rana off the second, but GOLDBERG PRESS SLAMS HIM OFF THE SECOND!! The Flock jump on the apron & get destroyed, as Kidman gets murdered with a SPEAR as Saturn attacks & slaps on the Rings of Saturn, but Goldberg just stands up with it locked on & hits a Jackhammer out of it, which was all power. This match was sloppy as hell, but the crowd didn’t care, Goldberg won.
Bill Goldberg vs Raven – Nitro - US Title April 20, 1998 Raven attacks immediately with a friggin SPEAR & dropkick as they spill outside. Goldberg launches him into the railing multiple times right in front of The Flock. We get back inside where Goldberg murders Raven with a superkick to the floor. Chair shot by the US Champ as he hits the drop toehold on the chair for 2. Chair shot leads to a chin lock, which is nuts. Goldberg powers up, but no sells Raven’s offense as he hits a SPEAR as the crowd explodes. Sick Boy hits a missile dropkick, but Kidman botches leaping off his back, so Goldberg just launches Kidman to the floor. Horace smacks Goldberg with the Stop sign, but gets SPEARED. Reese in and Goldberg hits a SPEAR and Jackhammer on the 7 footer. Raven tries escaping through the crowd, but “fans” stop him & toss him over the barricade to Goldberg’s clutches. SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count, we have a new US Champion! I loved this so much, it was as chaotic of a Raven match as you’d want and the crowd lost their shit for the title change.
Bill Goldberg vs Mike Enos –Thunder - US Title April 23, 1998 Enos wants revenge for his Beverly Brother who lost to Goldberg a few months back. Headbutts, punches, forearms have zero effect as he tries a hip toss & Goldberg does his terrible leg takedown. Rope break by Beverly as Goldberg plants him with a belly to belly & a short arm clothesline. Enos gets in some shots & a snap powerslam for 1 as Goldberg pops up, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Scott Norton – Nitro - US Title April 27, 1998 Norton attacks & sends Goldberg to the floor where we brawl in the early going, but back inside Goldberg picks the ankle & Norton gets a rope break. To the ribs the champ goes as Norton fights back with a huge Shoulder Breaker 1…2…NO! Norton is shocked as he takes Goldberg down with an arm breaker, but Goldberg gets to his feet. Shoulder Breaker attempt again, but Goldberg lands on his feet, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. Most offense Goldberg has sold in ages.
Bill Goldberg vs Jerry Flynn – Nitro - US Title April 28, 1998 Flynn attacks before the bell with kicks, misses a wheel kick & falls right on his face. Goldberg hits a suplex, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. Welp, this was the shortest outing for Flynn.
Bill Goldberg vs Len Denton – Nitro - US Title May 11, 1998 Denton hits a jawbreaker out the gate, but Goldberg murders him with a lariat & dishes out some punches in the mount, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. Crowd lost their damn minds.
Bill Goldberg vs Sick Boy – Thunder - US Title May 14, 1998 Quick start by Sick Boy as Goldberg sells his offense more than most guys as Sick Boy applies a NERVE HOLD ON GOLDBERG, seriously. He tries a leaping back elbow out of the corner & Goldberg just slams him down, then gorilla presses him over his head to the mat. SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count as The Flock just watch this happen.
Bill Goldberg vs Yuji Nagata – Saturday Night - US Title May 16, 1998 Kicks blocked by Goldberg, who hits a big boot & roll up ankle lock as Nagata gets the ropes. Gorilla press into the powerslam as Yuji tries to get a boot in the corner & Goldberg hits a dragon screw leg whip, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. For a C level show, the crowd was super loud for this.
Bill Goldberg vs Perry Saturn – Slamboree - US Title May 17, 1998 Slamboree as within seconds Goldberg hits his press powerslam & Goldberg does it again, Gorilla pressing Saturn, then hits a clothesline, sending Saturn outside. He suckers Goldberg on a chase, so he puts the boots to him back inside with a leg sweep, but Goldberg just no sells & chokes Saturn in the corner. To the floor, Saturn sends Goldberg into the post & hits a leap kick off the apron sending Goldberg back inside. Spin kick off the top for 2, so Saturn hits another before locking on a sleeper. Goldberg quickly up & slams out. Saturn dodges a corner splash & gets a chair, hitting a springboard dropkick . He goes for it again, but Goldberg hits a SPEAR in mid air. Jackhammer, 3 count and while this match wasn’t nearly as sloppy as their Spring Stampede match, it wasn’t that good either.
Bill Goldberg vs Glacier – Nitro - US Title May 18, 1998 Goldberg blocks like 5 kicks & clotheslines Glacier down as he hits a dragon screw leg whip and judo throw as Glacier again tries a kick & hits him. Goldberg bumps, but rolls to his feet & SPEARS Glacier, who struggled with a kip up, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Johnny Attitude – Nitro - US Title May 25, 1998 “Johnny Attitude has shaved his head.” Tony informs us on commentary, as Attitude tries to act like Goldberg during his entrance. He tries to hit a Spear on Goldberg, but he bounces off of him. Gorilla Press by Goldberg as he beats the shit out of Attitude before a SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Barry Horowitz – Thunder - US Title May 28, 1998 Barry charges & eats a boot immediately as Goldberg hits a massive powerslam as the crowd is going nuts. SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. Poor Barry, probably his only title match in WCW (or maybe his career).

Bill Goldberg vs La Parka – Nitro - US Title June 1, 1998 Parka hits a unprotected chair shot to the head, which Goldberg no sells and with Parka dancing away, eats a SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. Everyone were on their feet for this.
Bill Goldberg vs Hugh Morrus (w/Jimmy Hart & Barbarian) – Thunder - US Title June 4, 1998 Here we go, the man who lost to Goldberg in his first match gets a US Title shot. Barb & Morrus attack at the bell as apparently this is a handicap match? Barb eats a boot & Morrus a clothesline as Jimmy Hart goes to the top & Goldberg throws him into Barb & Morrus, who catch him, so Goldberg hits a DOUBLE SPEAR, Jackhammer on Barb, Jackhammer on Morrus, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Leroy Howard – Worldwide - US Title June 6, 1998 Fuck it, they didn’t say this was US Title, but I’m making it one. Also, he’s about to win the World Title in little over a month and Goldberg still pulling Worldwide duty? Howard actually gets punches off, tries a shoulder block, but bounces to the mat. He tries for a cross body, but gets planted. SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. I had hope for Lee Roy, but it wasn’t meant to be. Tony says it’s now 92-0, but ask Mike Tenay, it could be even more.
Bill Goldberg vs Chavo Guerrero – Nitro - US Title June 8, 1998 Chavo attacks, but gets launched to the opposite side of the ring. He tries to dive for the leg, but Goldberg powers him up with an overhead pump handle. Heenan says he smells salsa as Goldberg hits the gorilla press/powerslam, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count as Eddie Guerrero is laughing at the entrance ramp watching Chavito get destroyed.
Bill Goldberg vs Konnan – Great American Bash - US Title June 14, 1998 Great American Bash, can Goldberg get to 100 wins? He hooks a headlock early, but Konnan gets a hammerlock as Goldberg really sloppily gets a takedown into the ropes. K-Dogg goes for the legs, but charges, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Reese – Thunder - US Title June 18, 1998 Horace tries to wipe out Goldberg with a stop sign, but Goldberg just smacks him in the face with it. Reese hits a big vertical suplex, but Goldberg pops up and no sells. SPEAR, Jackhammer on the 7 footer, 3 count. Goldberg easily dismantles The Yeti.
Bill Goldberg vs Rick Fuller – Nitro - US Title June 22, 1998 Signature leg lock as Fuller gets the ropes, so Goldberg puts the brakes on in the corner as Fuller hits a spin wheel kick. Goldberg pops up & hits a half ass SPEAR, which I don’t think Fuller knew was coming that quick as he sort of fought the takedown, Jackhammer, 3 count. Crowd didn’t care how sloppy the spear looked, they were happy with the finish.
Bill Goldberg vs Glacier – Nitro - US Title June 29, 1998 Leg sweep that pops the crowd as Glacier hits a shot in the gut, but Goldberg gets “the scissors move” as Tenay calls it. Thanks Professor. Glacier with a leg sweep of his own as he boots Goldberg in the face as he poses in the middle of the ring allowing Goldberg to slam him down, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. Glacier sold that Spear like a champ.
Bill Goldberg vs John Nord - Worldwide - US Title July 4, 1998 Happy Birthday America, Goldberg is going to murder a Berzerker for your birthday. Nord hits a big boot out the gate, that Goldberg pops right up from & clotheslines Nord outside. He drags Goldberg out, who just punches him once & tosses him back inside. Nord puts the boots to him, shoot shim off, but gets backdropped by Goldberg. Crowd is calling for it as Nord stumbles to the floor, roll sback in & gets Speared & Jackhammered for the win. Nord’s berserker boots were the highlight of this match.
Bill Goldberg vs Scott Hall - Nitro July 6, 1998 Goldberg rag dolls Hall early, but The Bad Guy works the arm & paintbrushes the head, only to get choke slammed down. Eye poke by Hall and we get what was supposed to be a reverse Irish whip, but Goldberg is so fucking strong that Hall can’t hit the ropes properly & he just tumbles to the mat. They take turns trying to eye poke each other until Goldberg powerslams Hall down. You can tell Hall is frustrated, so he spits at him, charges for a lock up & gets slammed down. Hard rights by Hall, Goldberg misses a corner splash off a reversal & Hall nails a back suplex for 1. Goldberg starts no selling boots & rights, then hits a Judo throw & nails an arm drag, then another. Hall stumbles outside & calls for backup as Norton, Disciple & Vincent hit the ring, but DDP & KARL MALONE take them all out with chairs. Hall takes Goldberg down with a clothesline inside, signals for the Outsiders Edge, but Goldberg backdrops out of it, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Hollywood Hogan – Nitro - WCW Title July 6, 1998 Side headlock by Goldberg as he tosses Hogan clear across the ring before Hogan gets a front face lock. Goldberg backs him to the corner & Hogan covers up scared. Test of strength takes up a minute or so before they just let it go, Hogan boots him & starts whipping Goldberg with his belt. Hollywood turns his back; Goldberg grabs the belt & tosses it outside. Full Nelson by Goldberg, but Hogan mule kicks out of it right in front of the ref, then clotheslines the challenger down, choking away. Bodyslam connects, but the elbow drop doesn’t, as Goldberg pops up & clotheslines Hogan outside. He takes a minute to get back inside, locks up & knees Goldberg in the ribs, chucking him to the floor. Hogan smacks him in the back & head with a chair (right in front of the ref, again), then heads back inside. Bodyslam, LEGDROP OF DOOM, then another! We see Curt Hennig hit the ring, but again, Karl Malone & DDP are out after him, as Malone DIAMOND CUTS HENNIG! Lost in this, Goldberg kicks out of 2 legdrops, pops up & SPEARS a distracted Hogan. The crowd loses their shit as he hoists Hollywood up, JACKHAMMER 1…2…3! This match kind of sucked from a wrestling standpoint (most Hogan matches did at this point), but can you imagine the number they could’ve done had this been on PPV? Instead, we got Hennig vs Goldberg. I know the Rodman/Malone stuff was a huge number for WCW, but damn, they gave this match away on Nitro with like 4 days notice.

I'll have some thoughts on the Goldberg title win later. You're covering some very bittersweet territory for me here.

Bill Goldberg vs Curt Hennig – House Show July 10, 1998 Rare fan cam footage here as Hennig charges down the aisle to brawl, but Goldberg beats him back to the ring. Hennig quickly bails & stalls for a full minute before getting in the ring & hit with headlock/judo throws. He starts chopping at Goldberg, who shoots him to the corner & nails his shitty leaping leg scissors takedown as Hennig again goes outside. Goldberg tosses him back in, but Hennig gets a boot up in the corner, goes up top, but Goldberg presses him high in the air & down. Hip toss by the champ, but Hennig shoots a double leg & targets the left leg, posting it repeatedly. He keeps working the leg, until Goldberg gets his leg lock, but Hennig escapes & drops Goldberg with a forearm, then the HENNIG PLEX 1…2…NO! Goldberg pops up before Hennig (despite the bad wheel), hits a clothesline, SPEAR (selling the leg has disappeared), Jackhammer, 3 count. Goldberg then starts selling the leg after the match. This wasn’t terribly by any means, but Goldberg’s selling is so bad. Didn’t matter though, dude was over like rover.
Bill Goldberg vs Curt Hennig – Bash at the Beach - WCW Title July 12, 1998 Bash at the Beach as Hennig takes a flip bump out of a shoulder block (like only he can) & hip toss down as Hennig fights back with chops, but the dreaded leg lock by Goldberg, that Hennig escapes quick. He’s dragged into the ring by his hair, but gets a boot in the corner as he goes to the top & gets gorilla pressed/powerslammed, but Hennig gets the takedown & works the legs. HENNIG PLEX 1…2…KICK OUT! Goldberg pops up, hits a clothesline, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. Good thing Hennig did all that work on the legs so Goldberg could no sell like he does.
Bill Goldberg vs Curt Hennig – Nitro - WCW Title July 13, 1998 Hennig slaps Goldberg, who hits a SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. Not kidding. They did a Michael Buffer intro and everything for this match too.
Bill Goldberg vs Brian Adams – Nitro - WCW Title July 27, 1998 Attack at the bell by Crush, who hangs him up by the throat on the ropes. Diving shoulder off the top for 2 as Adams hits a suplex for another 2. He goes for it again & Goldberg hits the neckbreaker, then murders Adams with a Spear into the ropes. Good measure, he Spears Vincent, SPEAR to Adams again, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Battle Royal – WCW Road Wild Goldberg vs Kevin Nash vs Sting vs Lex Luger vs Konnan vs Giant vs Scott Hall vs Scott Norton vs Curt Hennig August 8, 1998 It takes a full 10 minutes to get everyone their entrances & for Hall to do his mic work. Hall & Nash pair off, Norton & Konnan, Giant & Lex, Sting & Hennig, then there’s Goldberg just stalking around. Within about a minute, Hall goes for the Outsider’s Edge & gets backdropped to the floor by Goldberg. Kevin Nash eliminates himself, stepping over the top to go after Hall. So collectively The Outsiders came to Sturgis and worked about a minute each, which sounds about right (beer still on ice in the back I assume). Goldberg SPEARS Hennig, then just lets him go in the corner to recover. Giant beats down Sting, Norton keeps giving Lex belly bumps in the corner until Goldberg & Giant finally start trading blows. SIDE RUSSIAN LEG SWEEP BY GIANT is the first bump Goldberg takes this match. Giant launches Konnan clear across the ring & Goldberg SPEARS him, eliminating K-Dogg soon after. Sting & Lex team up on Norton, while Giant & Curt work over Goldberg. SPEAR on Hennig as Goldberg chucks him out. Then in one swoop, Goldberg dumps Norton & Sting at the same time. Lex turns around & gets SPEARED, so Giant dumps him. Goldberg turns into a Choke Slam and Goldberg literally sits up like Undertaker. SPEARS Giant, then lifts the big man up for a Jackhammer to a huge roar for the 3 count. Zero idea why pinfalls counted, but whatever. This was a dumb battle royal, showing off huge names that were just thrown out there on this show. Didn’t want to overshadow Jay Leno in the main event, I guess?
Bill Goldberg vs Meng – Nitro - WCW Title August 10, 1998 Meng rakes the eyes & beats Goldberg into the corner, who bounces out of the corner with a shoulder, superkick & Meng rolls outside with the NWO, who apparently hired him for this one. Goldberg with a knee back inside, but Meng chops back. Goldberg does the crappy leg lock, hits the ropes & Meng crescent kicks him to the floor. Wolfpack & Black and White start brawling outside as Meng has the Tongan Death Grip inside. He lets go too early as Goldberg gets up, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs The Giant – Nitro - WCW Title August 17, 1998 Giant attacks at the bell with chops, but the champ fights back, only to eat a headbutt & bodyslam. Giant turns around & does his choke slam signal, but Goldberg pops up & bodyslams Giant! Shockingly, Giant no sells the bodyslam & we have a face off & lockup. Clubbing blows by Giant, who hits knees in the corner and a Side Russian Leg Sweep, which was crazy. Headbutts send Goldberg to the corner as he gets tossed outside by Disciple, who misses a right hand & eats one of his own. Giant out & Goldberg slams him into the post. Giant tries to suplex Goldberg back inside & he does it, but Goldberg no sells it, SPEAR, but The Disciple gets in the ring & causes the DQ, despite hitting punches outside in front of the ref. SPEAR & Jackhammer on Brutus (GOLDBERG TRIES TO PIN DISCIPLE) as Scott Hall attacks Goldberg & Nash attacks Giant. Goldberg tries to Spear Hall, but he moves & Nash gets Speared. He pops right up & we have a face off to end the show. Wow, that sucked, even for WCW.
Bill Goldberg vs Al Green – Nitro - WCW Title August 31, 1998 Green tries with boots & rights, but they have no effect as he’s tossed to the corner & eats a superkick. Back body drop as Green rolls to the floor & Goldberg out to follow, slamming him into the post and steps. Goldberg tries putting the boots back inside yet again, slaps on a sleeper for 3 seconds before being slammed down, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Scott Putski –Nitro - WCW Title September 7, 1998 Takedown & hip toss by the champ early, but Putski floats over & hits a suplex. Goldberg pops up, no selling like he does, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Rick Fuller – Thunder - WCW Title September 10, 1998 Fireman’s carry by Goldberg, who mounts Fuller & unloads punches in bunches as Fuller gets off a shot, shoots Goldberg off & hits a big boot. Goldberg bounces off the ropes & hits a STO, SPEAR, here comes Hollywood Hogan & The Disciple to attack as we’re told the referee doesn’t realize they are there, which is the most WCW thing ever. Goldberg spears Brutus, then hits a Jackhammer on Fuller for the 3 count. Hogan says he’s going to crucify Goldberg. Yeah, we never saw them wrestle again in WCW.
Bill Goldberg vs Sting – Nitro - WCW Title September 14, 1998 Commentary reminds us next week is Goldberg’s 1 year anniversary in WCW, which is insane to see what he’s accomplished. He powerslams Sting immediately, but eats a boot in the corner. Stinger picks up the champ & drives him into the Tree of Woe and the crowd explodes. He knocks Goldberg down again, but he pops right up & Sting bails as the crowd roars. They trade shots & Goldberg wins that exchange, but Sting answers with a dropkick & Goldberg no sells, then does his “patented leg takedown”. Sting gets the ropes, regroups & the match sort of slows to a crawl as we get a test of strength & Goldberg just lets it go and we get a lock up. Goldberg tries a Tombstone out of fucking nowhere, but Sting reverses & drops Goldberg. Stinger Splash, then another, then another! Goldberg charges for a corner Spear, but Sting moves & Goldberg eats the post. Chop block by Stinger, who locks on the Scorpion Deathlock incredibly sloppily (the worst you’ve ever seen). Hollywood Hogan walks out & boots Sting in the head as the ref miraculously didn’t see this. Goldberg pops up (no selling the leg Sting just spent minutes working on), SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. This match sucked, but at least the crowd popped at everything. I've seen this match listed on Goldberg's best WCW matches and honestly, it has to be a different Sting match, because this one was pretty terrible.
Bill Goldberg vs Kanyon – Thunder - WCW Title September 24, 1998 Kanyon tries cutting a promo asking “Who Better Than Kanyon?” turns his back, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.

Cranking out the end of this Goldberg rewatch because I've grown tired of Ol' William. Plus I'm doing a bonus post after this one about him. Guarantee most of you have never seen the matches from that post.
Bill Goldberg vs Raven – Thunder -WCW Title October 1, 1998 Michael Buffer here on Thunder to call this saying about Raven “the man who feels he’s been treated unfairly since childhood, by his parents & all others in his life. The Master of the Even Floooooowwww Rrrrrrraaaavvveeennnn!” Goldberg tosses Raven down multiple times as he hits a pop up powerslam. Crowd is a lot more dead than most Goldberg matches as he misses a corner splash & falls outside. Raven takes the fight to him, posting the champ as Kanyon sets up a table & holds Goldberg on it. Raven tries a dive, but Goldberg moves & Raven crashes. Back inside, Goldberg tries a Spear, but Raven pulls the ref in front of him & Goldberg spears them both. Kanyon grabs a chair & cracks Goldberg in the back as DDP runs out to make the save. Raven hits an Even Flow on Goldberg as DDP hits a Cutter on Kanyon. Goldberg sells the DDT for 2 seconds before popping up, hitting a neckbreaker, Jackhammer & the ref recovers for the 3 count. This ending sucked.
Bill Goldberg vs Disco Inferno – WCW Monday Nitro (Dark Match) October 5, 1998 So this dark match happened either before Nitro or after, because there’s a shit ton of fans not there. Disco is wearing head gear and just a Nitro shirt and pants, he’s dressed as a crew member. Goldberg just comes to the ring, tosses the ref his belt, clotheslines Disco and tries for a gorilla press, but fucks it up, so he does it again & powerslams him down. He mounts & chokes Disco, then hits his murder superkick, rips the shirt off Disco & knocks him out with a punch. Stiff as hell forearm, then gorilla presses Disco yet again, but drops him like a sack of potatoes. SPEAR (he fucked him up something fierce), Jackhammer, 3 count. This was weird, but Disco took a beating, so it wasn’t all bad.
Bill Goldberg vs The Giant – Nitro - WCW Title October 12, 1998 DROPKICK BY GIANT to start as he throws corner knees & side Russian leg sweep, headbutting Goldberg to the corner. Goldberg starts no selling, spin kick to the ribs & a bodyslam as Stevie Ray runs in with a chair shot, no DQ called though. Giant hits a Choke Slam 1…2…DDP in to break it up and hits a Cutter on Stevie. Giant goes to choke slam Page, but Goldberg spears him as the referee counts Giant out. Again, not a DQ, but a countout win.
Bill Goldberg vs Diamond Dallas Page – Halloween Havoc – WCW Title October 25, 1998 They lock up & tumble outside, without letting go of each other (it’s here when I think the feed cut out on the PPV and the fans got fucked because the Hogan/Warrior shit-fest ran long). Slowly back inside as DDP tries a leg sweep, but Goldberg back flips out of it, so DDP tries again & gets it. Goldberg no sells it, bodyslams DDP down & works an arm lock, which DDP gets the ropes. Jawbreaker as Page goes for the Cutter, but Goldberg sends him to the floor. Goldberg works the arm & DDP rolls out, gets a takedown, but Goldberg pops up & shoulder blocks Page to the floor again. Spinning neckbreaker by Page inside, then a side Russian leg sweep for 2. Front face lock applied & Goldberg fights out with a spinning neckbreaker of his own. Side suplex connects for 2, but he goes for it again & Page hits a tilt a whirl head scissors. Goldberg hits a superkick, charges in the corner & eats the post as DDP moves. Goldberg slowly slides back inside & Page hits a clothesline off the top for 2. Goldberg tries a hip toss, but Page counters into a DDT. Page signals for the Diamond Cutter, but turns his back & hit with a SPEAR, yet Goldberg can’t capitalize. Goldberg goes for the Jackhammer, but Page slides out & hits the Diamond Cutter to a huge pop! Page crawls over slowly 1…2…NO! Page foolishly goes for a suplex & Goldberg uses the momentum to counter into a Jackhammer for the 3 count. Up to this point, this was the best Goldberg match in his run and arguably the best of his entire WCW career (I’d say Fall Brawl 2000 against Scott Steiner is better, but there’s an argument to be made).
Bill Goldberg vs Meng – Nitro Extra - WCW Title November 10, 1998 This was apparently a dark match post Nitro as they collide with neither moving. Goldberg fakes hitting the ropes & hits a clothesline as Meng fires back with shots in the corner. They collide with clotheslines, but Meng misses a dropkick, only to answer with a big boot. He signals for the Death Grip, but Goldberg pops up, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs The Giant – Nitro - WCW Title November 23, 1998 They trade corner shots as Giant hits a clothesline & big boot, then hits his Choke Slam 1…2…KICK OUT! Giant is shocked as he’s chopping away and Goldberg no sells as he throws knees at the big man, sends him to the corner, Giant bounces out, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count.
Bill Goldberg vs Scott Hall – Nitro - WCW Title December 21, 1998 The final victory in the streak as this was the go home show for Starrcade against Nash. He tosses Hall down to start as Hall works the arm over, but Goldberg gets some knees & a fireman’s carry. Kevin Nash makes his way ringside as Goldberg hits a powerslam and Nash fakes looking scared. Hall attacks from behind as he hits a Fall Away Slam. Goldberg pops up, no selling, hits the SPEAR, but Nash pulls Hall to the floor as Bam Bam Bigelow hits the ring for the DQ. That’s right; Goldberg’s final win in the streak came, with a DQ.
Bill Goldberg vs Kevin Nash – Starrcade 98 - WCW Title December 27, 1998 Full minute of stalling before we lock up & Goldberg backs Nash to the corner, but Big Sexy pie faces him away. Nash grabs a headlock as “Goldberg Sucks” chants ring out. Goldberg back suplexes out of it and that’s the biggest Nash bump I’ve arguably ever seen in WCW up to this point. Now there are “Nash Sucks” chants as he starts throwing corner knees, elbows & the squisher boot, but Goldberg shoves him out, chokes him down & locks on a leg lock in the middle of the ring, but Nash is so tall, he grabs the ropes. Goldberg throws kicks & punches that drop Nash, but he grabs the trunks of the champ & drives him into the corner face first. Nash shoots Goldberg off, but the champ hits a SPEAR! He calls for the finish, but Nash hits a low blow right in front of the ref. Nash really works to get a side suplex for 2, then chokes Goldberg in the ropes, dropping the leg down for 2 again. Goldberg superkicks Nash in the gut, but Nash hits a back elbow & clothesline for a third near fall. Nash looks for a suplex, but Goldberg counters into a spinning neckbreaker & then a gut wrench suplex for a super close 2 count. Superkick connects as he hoists Nash up for a powerslam for 2. Goldberg hits a super sloppy spinning heel kick as DISCO INFERNO sprints out & gets chucked it the ring, hit with a SPEAR, then BAM BAM BIGELOW hits the ring. They brawl briefly as security hits the ring to get Bam Bam away, but Scott Hall, decked in security gear, stuns Goldberg with a stun gun. Nash, who took the ref, connects with a Jackknife Powerbomb for the 1…2…3. They said Nash never saw Hall out there, but we’d find out it was all bullshit & Nash would drop the title to Hogan in the finger poke of doom like a week later.
And with that, the famed streak of Bill Goldberg comes to an end. It annoys me more now than it did in 98 when I ate anything wrestling cranked out up like a lunatic. Watching this match with 2020 eyes, it was a terrible call by Nash to book himself to beat Goldberg. I know he was super over as well, not saying he wasn't, but you lost so much of Goldberg's appeal when the streak ended. He was just another guy after it. Not to mention, the Fingerpoke of Doom happened like a week later, making this match incredibly pointless. There's heat & then there's turn the channel brain dead nonsense heat & that's what I did.

BONUS: GOLDBERG IN JAPAN
Bill Goldberg vs Satoshi Kojima AJPW Royal Road 30 Giant Battle in Budokan 2nd Battle August 30, 2002 Goldberg’s first match since he was forced to leave WCW in January of 2001, when he & Buddy Lee Parker lost to Totally Buffed (let that one sink in). Dueling chants by the fans as Goldberg rag dolls Kojima down multiple times, but Kojima starts throwing forearms, as Goldberg no sells, so Kojima bails to regroup. Goldberg does the fucking rolling leg lock and honestly, it’s the best I’ve ever seen it (not high praise, but praise no less). Kojima is scrambling big time and they are really teasing the finish here, but he gets the ropes. A stalling pump handle slam by Goldberg that looks pretty rad (wish he would’ve done that more) as Kojima reverses an Irish whip, cracks Goldberg with a forearm, but Goldberg rolls through & hits the dreaded superkick. He tries for the Jackhammer, Kojima blocks, so Goldberg turns it into a spinning neckbreaker for the 1…2…3!! No Spear, No Jackhammer! I think that’s the first time I’ve ever said that!
Bill Goldberg vs Taiyo Kea AJPW Royal Road 30 Giant Battle in Budokan 3rd Battle August 31, 2002 I should point out; Mr. Yamaguchi-san from Kaientai in the WWF is the referee for this one. He could’ve been for the Kojima one, I just only noticed now. Goldberg dares Kea to hit some shoulder blocks & he doesn’t budge. Kea dares Goldberg to do the same, but Goldberg just clotheslines Kea to the outside. Kea gets a reverse waistlock, but Goldberg somersaults into a leg lock, but Kea quickly gets the ropes. Kea throws some kicks & chops, but Goldberg just eats them & hits a fall away pump handle throw. He wants the Jackhammer, but Kea kicks out, so Goldberg dares him to throw more kicks & Goldberg blocks & spinebusters him down 1…2…3! WOW! Goldberg in All Japan sort of ruled. That was all we got from him there though.
Bill Goldberg vs Rick Steiner Wrestle-1 November 17, 2002 Alright then, this match happened. Yamaguchi-san, still the ref here as they exchange lock ups that end in the corner. They start throwing shots & Goldberg hits a short arm clothesline & leaping shoulder tackle. The crowd is so quiet, you can hear the guys calling spots. Really sloppy leapfrog caught into a powerslam by Steiner, as he clotheslines Goldberg over the top, but tumbles outside with him. Chair shot right to the head, which Goldberg no sells, but not the shot to the gut. Rick bitch slaps Goldberg with the chair & chucks him into the guard rail, as Goldberg grabs what looks like an oxygen tank? I have no fucking clue. Back inside, Steiner hits a belly to belly for 1 (which he argues was 3, which gets a laugh). Goldberg hits a shoulder block & they have a face off & trade shoulder blocks again, until Goldberg presses him high over his head & down. Steiner attacks Goldberg from behind with a German suplex, which Goldberg no sells, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. There’s our Goldberg. This match was weird, the crowd only popped for the last 2 moves and the word JACKHAMMER went across the big screen after he hit it.
Bill Goldberg & Keiji Mutoh vs Kronik 2nd Wrestle-1 January 19, 2003 Goldberg’s entrance really was hilariously awesome (I've included it). This was in the fucking Tokyo Dome and 2003, two years after Kronik shit the bed in the WWF, as Mutoh & Adam Bomb start off with some back & forth, but nothing special. Goldberg & Crush tag in soon after and the match already slows to a crawl, before they fight outside with punches as they tumble into the front row. Goldberg smacks Crush with a chair, but Crush actually fights back. Mutoh tags in, but ultimately gets worn down by Kronik, but it didn’t last long, as Goldberg hot tags in quicker than you’d expect. So how does Goldberg clean house you ask? With an extended armbar to suck the life out of the crowd (and me). The fuck are you doing, Bill? Now that the crowd is asleep, he tags Mutoh back in to do some leg whips to make the 4 people awake happy. Goldberg tags back in & it’s sloppy as fuck from everyone involved here. You can obviously tell they are just trying to fill time. Adams & Clark hit the High Times, but Goldberg kicks out and literally no one cares, despite it being Kronik’s finish (or was 3 years ago). They bring a table in the ring, as Goldberg clotheslines them both down & Mutoh hits a Shining Wizard, while Goldberg hits a SPEAR on Adam Bomb through the table. Goldberg hits the Jackhammer (JACKHAMMER read across the screen again) for the 3. This was the dirt worst. One of the absolute worst Goldberg matches I have ever seen. 17 FUCKING MINUTES!! I could’ve watched like 15 WCW squashes again rather than this.
Bill Goldberg vs Naoya Ogawa HUSTLE PPV 1 January 4, 2004 Never knew Goldberg had a match under contract with WWE, but here we are. Pretty intense staredown to start, as they trade headbutts & Ogawa knees Goldberg to the corner and we get break (not clean, as Ogawa slaps him), as Goldberg charges out with a clothesline & gorilla press into a slam. Ogawa regroups, they lock up & Goldberg with the rolling leg lock of doom. Ogawa hooks an ankle pick & takes over the leg hold as Goldberg gets the ropes. Judo throw drops Goldberg, then another one, as Ogawa tries for a cross arm breaker, but settles for a leg lock. Goldberg sits up & they start slapping each other before Goldberg blocks a punch & rolls through into a single leg crab. Ogawa escapes & starts lighting Goldberg up with kicks, so Goldberg shoves him down. Ogawa with forearms & a monkey flip as he punts Bill in the back. Goldberg fights back & hits a gut wrench throw, puts the boots to Ogawa in the corner & chokes him, before he slaps the shit out of Ogawa. Bulldog choke applied by Ogawa, who releases & hits a back suplex, then applies a sleeper. Goldberg flips him out of it, but shoves the ref down in the process. SPEAR connects, he signals for another, but Ogawa rolls through & hits a STO! Both men slow to get up, as Ogawa hits another STO, covers him, but there’s still no ref. Ogawa goes to hit the ropes, but gets tripped by GIANT SILVA?!?!? They start trading punches until Silva knocks Ogawa down. Both Goldberg & Ogawa slowly get up at the same time, SPEAR, Jackhammer, 3 count. The ending was downright atrocious, but the actual match itself before that could be seen as boring, but because it was Goldberg, this was unlike anything we’d seen, so it was pretty damn great.

Bummed to report that Monsoon Classic, arguably the best YouTube page for wrestling match content was taken down today. By a party seemingly not affiliated with WWE I guess. Some dick company is taking down wrestling match pages.
That page contributed to 95% of the WCW marathon matches I reviewed and was going to help with a fuck ton of others too.
Poor one out and pay your respects.

I luckily have banked a lot of WWF matches like I did for the WCW shows (Superstars, Wrestling Challenge, Prime Time), so we'll have random reviews aplenty! I also read that apparently this outside group that's taking down these channels might have been hired by WWE. Fucking sucks if true, which I believe since it sounds like a scumbag move they'd do. I'd say 99% of the matches on his channel isn't on the Network in any capacity. If anything the channel drove people to watch the Network.

WWF Prime Time Wrestling
Earthquake vs Mark Young February 12, 1990 Young foolishly tries shoulder tackles & a dropkick, then gets clotheslined so hard he does a back flip. Big powerslam, elbow drop & choke slam (yes, a choke slam) as that sets the table for the tremors & the Earthquake Teabag special for the 3 count. Post match he does another one for good measure, then does a THIRD!! Poor Young, he sold great.
Mr. Perfect vs Jim Brunzell May 14, 1990 Battle of the Minnesota Boys as this should be some good fucking wrestling here. Arm drag & hip tosses by Perfect early as he follows with a fireman’s carry takedown, but Brunzell gets a hip toss, body slam & clothesline sending Perfect flying outside. Back inside, Brunzell works the leg & Perfect is bumping all over for it. He wrenches away at the leg, with Perfect getting 1 move in, but Brunzell goes right back to work. Eye poke & chop to the throat cuts him off as the referee admonishes Perfect, allowing Brunzell to punt his leg out from under him and Perfect does a flip selling it. Figure Four attempt by Brunzell, turned into a small package 1…2...NO! Perfect takes out Brunzell’s leg as payback & limps over to go to work, but Brunzell fights back quick enough to hit a picture perfect dropkick as both men slowly make it to their feet. Perfect clubs Brunzell with a forearm & hits the Perfect Plex for the 3 count. Damn was this good stuff. A highlight in this whole rewatch.
The Genius vs ? October 1, 1990 The Genius is wearing a blonde wig & wrestling head gear for some reason. He got his head shaved in April, so why he’s keeping up with this charade is beyond me. Anyways, his opponent tries to grab the wig off & Genius literally jumps to the floor and sends his opponent crashing outside. Back inside we get a weird camera cut, as Genius slams him down, hits a moonsault out of the corner & goes up to for the Honor Roll somersault senton that kills his opponent for 3. What’s weird is you can clearly see Poffo has a full head of hair, so why he’s rocking a blonde wig is confusing.
Power & Glory vs Saba Simba & Paul Diamond January 21, 1991 I have no idea if Diamond already started as Kato yet or not, but he’s here teaming with Tony Atlas, who starts with a clothesline on Herc, but when he tries for a splash, Herc gets the knees up. Roma off the top with a forearm as P&G double team to the delight of the Slickster outside. Roma charges & gets caught with a bodyslam as Diamond tags in & works the arm. Roma shoots him off, leapfrog, dropkick as they trade wrist locks, but Roma backs to the corner & gets a cheap shot. Diamond misses a clothesline, but hits a perfect dropkick, arm drag, then botches a second arm drag as Roma just falls down, then tags Herc, who levels Diamond with a lariat & some elbow drops. Power & Glory taking turns teeing off on Diamond, but Roma misses a splash & here comes Simba who throws overhead chops & a double noggin knocker. He dives at Herc, who ducks & Simba flies to the outside. Herc & Roma drag Diamond in & hits the Power-Plex on him for the 3 count, despite Simba being the legal man. Damn was the Power-Plex awesome.
Brooklyn Brawler vs Big Bully Busick November 4, 1991 Sloppy abdominal stretch by the Bully that Gorilla and Alfred roast at how bad it is. He chokes Brawler in the ropes as Harvey blows his cigar into the face of Lombardi, who fights back with a clothesline & mounts Bully. We get a cat fight with these two as the fans don’t know who to cheer for here. Brawler rakes at the face as Gorilla wants a flying head scissors, but he won’t get it as Bully slaps on a rest hold. Brawler gets free & chokes Bully in the ropes as they both spill outside where Bully posts the leg of Brawler. They keep brawling outside as Bully wants a suplex, but Brawler reverses with “a little suplex” says Lord Alfred. Bully to the apron as Brawler tries to suplex him in as Harvey hooks the leg & Bully gets the 3. Brawler chases after Harvey and Bully after both as this match sucked all kinds of ass.
The Beverly Brothers & The Genius vs Sonny Blaze, Brian Donahue & Larry Ludden December 30, 1991 Early 6 man tag with the Bevs & Poffo as Beau hits a back drop on Donahue immediately before tagging Blake & they hit the leapfrog splash in the ropes early on. Blake puts the boots to Donahue (who is the Dublin Destroyer by the way) as Genius tags in with a hard right hand. He drops Blaze & Ludden on the apron as Genius is apparently an unstoppable force. Lord Alfred points out how Genius “isn’t exactly trim around the waist” as Blaze tags in with Beau, who hits a belly to belly overhead onto his skull as Blake tags in & they hit a double suplex. Beverlys are shit talking Anvil, who apparently they’re feuding with for this house show loop. Genius tags in & hits an arm drag and head scissors before tagging Beau. Here comes Larry Ludden, who gets murdered within seconds with a Shaker Heights Spike for the 3 as Genius does a back flip.
The Barbarian vs The Berzerker January 6, 1992 Battle of the fuzzy boots as we get a rare heel vs heel match on Prime Time. Husses in bunches as they take turns chopping one another & then get a slugfest and a criss-cross as Berzerker gets a shoulder takedown for 2. Barb fires back almost murdering Berzerker with a big boot as he chokes away in the corner, but gets raked in the eyes. Berzerker misses a corner splash & Barb connects with a shoulder before missing a splash as well. Huge shoulder block by Berzerker for 2 as Barb fights back with a clothesline & goes to hit the ropes, but Fuji lowers the rope with his cane and Barb goes after him, his former manager. Fuji rolls in the ring as Barbarian gets counted out and that’s it. What a lame finish, but at least Barbarian snapped Fuji’s cane over his head post match (he completely missed the first attempt), which was pretty rad.
Sid Justice vs Skinner January 20, 1992 We have a fan in the crowd with a Danny Spivey-esque mullet as Skinner attacks at the bell & eats a clothesline as a result. The Alligator Man bails to the floor with his gator claw & Sid chases him, connecting with a hard right hand. Skinner hits Sid repeatedly with the claw right in front of the ref and he doesn’t DQ him as that’s all Skinner’s offense is, using that gator claw. Finally he gets rid of it, but gets booted in the ribs & dropped with a Powerbomb for the 3. Welp, that’s what happens when you stop using a weapon against Sid, I guess.
The Undertaker vs Col. Mustafa March 16, 1992 Sheiky Baby is already in the ring and doesn’t even get entrances anymore at this point as he attacks Taker as soon as he hands Paul Bearer his hat. Taker blocks a right hand & hits one of his own, then plants him with a Tombstone that missed by about a mile, for the 3 count. I’m sure Sheik was happy he didn’t have to take that finish flush.
Chris Walker vs Barry Horowitz April 6, 1992 Walker has the look, has the build, looks like Tarzan mixed with a heavy metal dude. Horowitz bumps like crazy off arm drags & hip tosses, as Barry tries some of his own & it goes nowhere, as Walker works the arm bar. Barry gets one uppercut, charges & its right back to hip toss, arm drag & arm bar. Jawbreaker gets Barry free, who hits a knee lift & butterfly suplex as Horowitz goes up top, leaps & Walker pops him in the gut with a right. Big time back elbow & a high back body drop as Walker goes up top & connects with a solid high cross body for 3. This was a super simple match & Horowitz made Walker look as good as he could. It was 90% arm bars/arm drags & hip tosses.
Sid Justice vs Chris Walker April 20, 1992 A rare post Mania 8 Sid match, as this was also arguably Walker’s highest profile match in his short little run as he fires off some rights, ducks a clothesline, but Sid pops him with a comeback one. Shots to the lower back by Sid, who chokes & boots Walker in the ribs, slamming him down, as this is obviously taped before Mania, since the crowd is chanting for Hogan. Powerbomb with ease by Sid, who gets the easy 3. Any momentum Walker had (which was barely any) was cut immediately, as they do a stretcher job to Walker & Sid runs the doctors down, lays them out & tosses Walker off the stretcher.
40 Man Battle Royal Beverly Brothers, Virgil, Koko B Ware, Skinner, Kato, Owen Hart, The Nasty Boys, Duane Gill, El Matador, Texas Tornado, Joe Milano, Tatanka, Bob Bradley, Bret Hart, Barry Horowitz, Bob Starr, Jim Brunzell, Sgt. Slaughter, Rick Martel, Ted Dibiase, IRS, Rich Johnson, Berzerker, JA Gooden, Steve Martinez, Bruce Mitchell, Bob Knight, Jim Powers, Terry Davis, Joe McMullen, Al Hunter, Scott Palantonio, Barry Hardy, Nick Ranger, Dublin Destroyer, British Bulldog, ?, ? July 6, 1992 So I listened carefully to the intros and Mike McGuirk only announces 37 guys, so she forgot 3 job guys (I recognized the Dublin Destroyer). I’m going to try to cover this thing the best I can because some of these job guys I’ve never seen before. Berzerker stays on the floor & pulls Joe Milano to the floor & beats him up at the entrance way. Another job guy is out, as is the Destroyer & Bob Starr. The “youngsters” as Gorilla puts it are getting tossed thankfully since I don’t know which job guy is which. 8 men have been tossed and Berzerker is still on the floor. Sgt. Slaughter said F This, he bailed quick as Jimmy Powers was dumped by Berzerker, who finally has gotten in. COMMERCIAL BREAK and when we return Barry Horowitz is tossed. Rick Martel is eliminated by Tatanka and Bob Bradley by Von Erich. Duane Gill wins the Last Jobber Standing as he gets eliminated. Skinner lowers his shoulder & eliminated the undefeated Tatanka. Ted Dibiase out by El Matador, while Nasty Boy Knobbs was tossed by Bret Hart. We then see IRS, Virgil, Owen Hart, Bret Hart & both Beverly Brothers out in seconds as Kato gets dumped by Koko. 7 men remain as Sags gets dumped by Von Erich and we’re down to 6. Bulldog, Santana, Berzerker, Skinner, Von Erich & Koko remain. Berzerker & Skinner both lower their shoulders and dump Koko & El Matador. Final 4 as Skinner boots out Bulldog and leaves us down to Skinner, Berzerker & Texas Tornado. Heels double team Von Erich before the wheels fall out and Skinner tries to dump Berzerker, who sneaks up behind them both, eliminates them & Berzerker wins it!! Gorilla says Mr. Fuji will be giving him extra rice tonight as a reward. Because that’s what Berzerker was all about, rice.

You son of a...! Thank you! I only have about 15-20 matches left for Prime Time (since eps through 89 are on the Network). Superstars and Wrestling Challenge I'll have plenty though. Needed to keep this thread going even during my G1 recaps.

We need some more Prime Time after tonight's debacle! This is the last of the quick PTW reviews. I have Superstars & Wrestling Challenges aplenty coming up next. Do you guys have a preference? Superstars or Wrestling Challenge? Let me know.
Jim Powers vs Bob Bradley July 13, 1992 I always love how they give a guy like Powers a TV match from time to time that doesn’t involve him jobbing. They trade waist locks & Powers gets a school boy for 2 as he dropkicks Bradley to the floor. He slingshots Bradley back inside & hits a perfect high arm drag into an arm bar. Big time atomic drop & short clothesline follow as Bradley whips Powers to the corner, does a standing backflip & falls back into the corner with a back elbow. He trash talks the Young Stallion & hits a back breaker before trying for a Vader Bomb splash, but Powers gets the knees up. 10 corner buckles as Powers nails another clothesline & connects with his patented knee lift then the POWERS SLAM for the 3. Really wish Jimmy Powers had more of a chance.
Randy Savage vs Ric Flair – WWF Championship September 15, 1992 I have zero idea when this match was actually taped, but I assume it was after Summerslam, which was August 31, where Savage blew out his knee in the Warrior match (storyline wise). This begs the question, why was this match even made with Savage in this condition? Macho selling his knee like a champ, hobbling to the ring & barely able to move around as Flair smells blood in the water immediately, targeting the leg & chopping away. Perfect is trash talking & toying with Savage, as Flair is in firm control. Randomly, Savage gorilla presses Flair above his head & down, then slaps on an abdominal stretch. Flair punches at the knee to break the hold, but Savage gets sent to the corner & fires out with a clothesline. He can’t capitalize as Flair hits a stalling vertical suplex for 2. Flair picks him apart with shots, with Macho trying some of his own, but Perfect grabs the leg. Savage kicks away, but Flair attacks with a back suplex & single leg crab. Savage gets the rope break, but Flair just slaps on a random knee bar. Savage nearly gets a small package for 2, as Perfect keeps interfering so subtly. Savage mounts his comeback as Flair takes his big back body drop & clothesline to the outside. Savage out after Naitch, suplexing him on the floor. Savage gets distracted by Perfect and Flair gets the eye poke, charges & Savage backdrops him on the floor. How the ref hasn’t gotten to 10 yet is beyond me. Back inside, Savage goes up top with a double axe handle, but he clutches the knee in pain. Just then, newcomer RAZOR RAMON walks down the aisle. Perfect again distracts Savage and RIC FLAIR DROPKICKS SAVAGE OUTSIDE. I just typed Ric Flair hit a dropkick. Flair takes the ref and Razor kicks Savage’s leg out of his leg before walking to the back. Flair tosses Macho back inside & sinks on the Figure Four, which Savage fights valiantly for minutes, but he slowly fades and Flair wins the title. The amount of Perfect interference was overkill, but this was the perfect (no pun intended) weasly heel title win. I have no idea why this match isn’t on the Network.
Nailz vs Sgt. Slaughter September 14, 1992 Nailz attacks while Sarge is on the apron making his entrance & pummels him with the nightstick in the back of the head. He hot shots Sarge throat first on the railing & grabs a chair, smacking him on the back. Back to the nightstick, he keeps hitting the former WWF Champion & chokes him, sending him crashing into the ring attendant area. Another chair shot as Sarge collapses as more nightstick & chair shots as NO ONE HAS RAN DOWN TO STOP THIS. Finally refs stop playing grab ass backstage and stop Nailz briefly before he keeps choking away at Slaughter, who is almost dead at this point. More chair shots as Nailz gets in the ring & soaks in the boos, drooling as Slaughter is stretchered out. I think this was it for Sarge as a wrestler on TV before transitioning into an authority role.
The Undertaker vs Kato September 14, 1992 The Oriental Strange is what Gorilla calls Kato, who attacks Taker from behind, but Taker throat chops him down. Kato leaps off the second, but gets caught throat first & Taker chokes him in the corner. Kato gets a boot to the gut & clothesline, but Taker no sells it all, so he rakes the eyes, but tries a hip toss, so Taker catches him with a choke slam. Lord Alfred Hayes refers to Harvey Wippleman as “that tiny little doctor” when talking about Taker’s feud with Kamala. Taker drops Kato with the Tombstone & the crowd really didn’t give a shit, as I think one dude cheered for the finish.
Big Bossman vs Papa Shango October 5, 1992 This was joined in progress with Gorilla & Slick on the call. Monsoon points out how Slick knows a little something about the dark arts, which I assume is a call back to Akeem? Otherwise, I have no clue what Gorilla is going for. Bossman misses a corner splash, so Shango cracks him with a big boot & gives Bossman a hard corner buckle. He chokes away at Bossman & bodyslams him down, then applies a long nerve hold for literally 2-3 minutes until Bossman powers up & they immediately clonk heads with a double down. Shango up first, but Bossman fights him off with rights & an atomic drop and clothesline. He keeps looking at the entrance way, but Nailz hasn’t walked out yet for his cue. Finally Nailz walks out & stares him down as Shango attacks Bossman from behind, but he lays Shango out with a wind up right hand. He grabs the nightstick & walks after Nailz as he charges at him & they fall back through the curtain. The referee counts him out and Papa Shango wins a match that’s not against a job guy!
Bret Hart vs The Berzerker – WWF Championship November 9, 1992 Mr. Huss Huss grabs the hair multiple times for takedowns, but the ref blocks him from doing it a third time, so Bret grabs the hair himself & chucks Berzerker outside. He jumps back in & boots Bret in the gut, but Bret gets a hip toss (looked edited, so they must’ve fucked up the first try), but the big man recovers & puts the boots to the champ. Berzerker connects with a stalling piledriver, then he Husses to the corner, charges & misses a terrible looking knee drop. Bret with the atomic drop, diving clothesline, side Russian leg sweep for 2. Bret connects with the side suplex, goes to the second for the elbow & sinks in the Sharpshooter for the easy win.
El Matador vs Damien Demento November 16, 1992 Hammerlock by Demento early, which Tito reverses, but Demento gets a rope break as we see Doink in the crowd with a giant mallet. Demento attacks Tito, misses a few clotheslines & Tito gets a cross body for 2, then works an arm bar. Demento backs Tito in the corner & hits some shots, but misses a corner splash & Tito goes back to the arm bar. Lord Alfred calls Doink a “very delightful fellow”, little did he know. Demento gets a cheap shot, snap mare & knee drop (which has actually been his finisher) for 2. Rest hold applied, but Tito gets out & slams Demento 10 times into the buckle. Snap jabs & a bodyslam as Tito hits a dropkick & the Flying Jalapeno sending Demento outside. He slowly crawls back in, shoulders Tito in the midsection & rolls Tito up, handful of tights 1…2…the ref calls for a DQ due to the handful of tights?? The first time I’ve ever seen that.
Papa Shango vs Repo Man December 14, 1992 Prime Time special, heel vs heel as Repo is scared of the skull Shango has brought to the ring, probably wondering if he can repossess it. Repo takes a hard buckle as Shango levels him with a clothesline & he works a wrist lock to follow. Voodoo master working the wrist of a car thief. Repo gets free & hits a clothesline of his own, then drops a leg & returns the favor by applying a wrist lock. Shango takes over with a new rest hold, but Repo fights back with right hands, misses a clothesline & we get a double down clothesline by both. Shango grabs his Voodoo stick and Repo ducks the fireworks that shot out of it. Because of that, REPO HAS ALSO BEEN DQ’D and it’s a Double Disqualification. That makes zero sense as Repo didn’t use any weapons.
Marty Jannetty vs Papa Shango December 21, 1992 This was apparently Marty’s first match back in about a year, since the Barber Shop incident. Shango beats Marty down in the corner to start, but Marty floats over a splash & works an arm bar. Shango backdrops Marty down & hits 3 elbows repeatedly as Shango talks to his skull that he brings to the ring, which Gorilla suggests is Lord Alfred’s relative. Neck crank by Shango, as he shoots Marty to the corner, charges & eats a boot. Marty mounts his comeback as Shawn Michaels makes his way down the aisle. Marty spots him as he hits a backdrop on Shango, but gets distracted & Shango clobbers him from behind. Marty ducks a clothesline & hits a few dropkicks, clotheslining Shango to the floor as Marty hits a FUCKING MISSILE DROPKICK OFF THE TOP TO THE OUTSIDE!! He sprints up the ramp with Michaels back turned & he hits HBK with a hurricanrana! Marty gets counted out as refs have to separate them both. I should point out, Marty loses his return match.
Bob Backlund vs Skinner December 21, 1992 Gorilla shits all over Skinner during his entrance, to the point where Alfred has to ask him to say something nice about Skinner, so Gorilla says he’s a good wrestler. Skinner tries to mat wrestle with Backlund to start, but Bob gets some foot sweeps & a drop toe hold. Skinner tries for a test of strength, Backlund briefly fades, but he rolls out & gets another takedown. Lord Alfred talks about how he takes ICOPRO. Skinner gets a cheap shot with some headbutts, Backlund ducks a right & gets a high atomic drop. Skinner tries for a roll up, but Backlund rolls out awkwardly, floats over a bodyslam attempt & gets a roll up with a back bridge for the 3. This was so unbelievably bad.
