We're cranking a lot of these son bitches out this weekend!
WCW Saturday Night (June & July 1998) Roadblock vs Frankie Lancaster June 6, 1998 Big man wastes zero time in splashing Frankie in the corner & shit talking him as Frankie fires back, but gets launched clear across the ring. Roadblock no sells two dropkicks & swats the third try away as he hits another corner splash. Big bodyslam, but misses a follow up elbow as Frankie fires off jabs, but gets raked in the eyes & runs into a bear hug for nearly 2 minutes. He gets free & tries a cross body, but Roadblock barely catches him & just falls on top, re-trying the spot, hitting a World’s Strongest Slam and a AWFUL Dead End Drop for the win.
Glacier vs Chris Adams June 6, 1998 Can Glacier get his win back from a few months ago? Clean break in the corner by the Ice Man, but gets an eye poke & leg sweep as he poses for the crowd. Adams shoots a double leg & fires off right hands as Mark Curtis just watches as Glacier bails outside, getting slammed into the railing. Adams posts his opponent before heading inside, goes up top & eats a boot to the chest. Glacier with corner kicks & more posing as he hits a hook kick & goes to the top himself, wasting too much time & gets launched. High back drop by Adams, who connects with a piledriver when Perry Saturn hits the ring & superkicks both guys to cause I guess a No Contest? He also hits Death Valley Drivers on both men as well for reasons I have no idea.
Konnan vs Giant June 6, 1998 Giant misses a corner splash early as K-Dogg goes clubberin, but gets reversed in the corner & Giant hits a clothesline and headbutt sending Konnan to the floor. He hangs Giant up on the top and goes to work inside hitting 10 corner punches until he hits a cross body on Giant for 2. You read that right. Vincent hits the ring (NO DQ CALLED) as he gets flattened by Konnan, who turns into a Giant Choke Slam for the 3 count. This was a dumb match.
Dean Malenko vs Evan Karagias June 13, 1998 They trade wrist locks & arm bars early as this is purely mat based work put in by both, counters aplenty. Malenko starts going to work on the midsection before firing off corner forearms right to the face. They awkwardly lose their place & hit the ropes at the same time & looks really odd as Malenko straight murders poor Evan in the corner with a clothesline to get back on track. Massive gut buster & Texas Cloverleaf is wrenched back super deep & that does it. Evan was still super green, so I’ll cut him some slack, but Saturday Night was edited & this should’ve been edited out.
Booker T vs Barry Horowitz June 13, 1998 Waist lock takedown by Book, but Barry reverses into a hammerlock. Booker elbows out & nails a big back elbow as he pops Barry with corner forearms, until Barry answers with one of his own. He runs into a powerslam to give Booker 2, who hits a spinning side kick sending Barry outside. Book quickly out to get him, but Horowitz takes over inside with uppercuts. Impressive dragon screw as Barry grapevines the leg & falls back to the mat. Booker turns the tide with a knee to the ribs & Harlem Side Kick, flap jack, spinaroonie & signals for the Scissors Kick, connecting. He goes up top, connecting with a missile dropkick for the 3 count. Post match, Fit Finlay hits the ring & sinks in a half crab until Stevie Ray makes the save for his brother.
Chris Jericho vs Chavo Guerrero Jr. June 13, 1998 Chavo has taped ribs & Jericho has a Conspiracy Victim sign while rocking his 96 era tights here. Chavo is really selling the ribs as Jericho blows kisses to the fans who are booing him mercilessly. Jericho starts punting Chavo in the ribs repeatedly, dropping him over his knee with a back breaker. Chavo gets a boot up in the corner & a quick clothesline and a back drop as Eddie Guerrero is shown at the entrance way. Bulldog by Chavo, but Jericho gets a knee to the ribs, spinebuster & Lion Tamer to end this quick and make Eddie happy.
Reese vs Van Hammer June 20, 1998 Boots in the corner as Hammer is firing off rights, gets sent to the corner & the big man nails a clothesline. Hard buckle on Hammer as Reese hits a back suplex, high fiving Horace on the floor. He lowers his head, but Hammer fights back with a knee lift. He tries a bodyslam & Reese collapses on top of him for 2. Reese hits a big stalling vertical suplex as Hammer is up before Reese, which makes zero sense, as he fires back with rights & a shoulder block drops Reese and he gets the bodyslam 1…2…Horace smacks Hammer with the stop sign to get the DQ. Post match, The Flock beat down Hammer as Raven gets in the ring, standing over the fallen Hammer.
Eddie Guerrero vs DDP June 20, 1998 DDP chants almost make Eddie leave the building as he hits the ring & Eddie hits a snap arm drag, mocking Page. DDP answers with one of his own & a hip toss as Eddie crawls to Nick Patrick, crying tights pull. DDP works the arm, but Eddie takes over, dropkicking Page in the kidneys, which is what Eddie targets. Eddie Sucks chants as he hits a slingshot senton & a single leg crab. This is what the next 2 minutes is before Page makes his comeback with rights, lefts & a discus clothesline. DDP tries a Diamond Cutter, but Eddie cuts him off. Page catches a boot, spins him around, hoists him up for a shoulder breaker, but spins Eddie around into a Diamond Cutter for the 3! Clever ending, but I wish the middle of the match wasn’t Eddie with a crab, that was it.
Scott Putski vs Barry Horowitz July 4, 1998 Putski with an early back suplex & Barry sells it like death as Putski hits a tilt a whirl side suplex & flapjacks Barry down. Elbow drop gets 2 by Putski as Barry gets in a cheap shot, jaw breaker & dropkick before patting himself on the back. Backbreaker DDT gets a 2 count for Horowitz, who hits a follow butterfly suplex for another 2. Putski reverses an Irish whip, hits The Putski Bomb & then the POLISH HAMMER for 3.
Public Enemy vs Judo Suwa & Sumo Fuji July 11, 1998 The Japanese contingent get sent into each other off corner whips & they regroup as Fuji puts the boots to Grunge in the corner, charges & eats a boot as Johnny hits a neckbreaker, so here comes Suwa, who eats a drop toe hold & here comes Rocco. Double flapjack as Rocco tries a quebrada, but misses & Suwa nails a flying forearm. To the top he goes, but Johnny & Rocco launch him off and he nearly lands on his head. Double gut buster on Fuji as they send Suwa outside & hit The Drive By somersault splash for the 3 count. Post match, Disco Inferno & Alex Wright lay out Public Enemy & dance to end the segment.
Scott Putski vs Julio Sanchez July 18, 1998 Headlock punches in bunches & a clothesline send Julio outside, so he grabs the leg of Putski & slams him into the apron. They brawl briefly as Putski tries a forearm between the ropes, but Julio puts a knee up, drops a knee off the second & gets a 2 count. Fisherman’s suplex for 2 (Scott Hudson called it a Fisherman German Suplex, which doesn’t exist) as Putski fires back with a clothesline & bodyslam. POLISH HAMMER BY PUTSKI, who does a weird hand signal & hits a spinebuster/powerbomb for the 3. He of course called it, The Putski Bomb.
Chris Jericho vs Barry Houston – WCW Cruiserweight Title July 18, 1998 2 minutes of stalling by Jericho and 1 minute of rest holds by Houston finally lead to Jericho almost crushing Houston with a Stun Gun. Corner spin kick & vertical suplex gets a 1 count after putting one foot on Houston. Jericho actually argues the count, which is great before slapping on a rest hold of his own. Houston fires back with a Northern Lights Suplex (Hudson calls it a German, which, you’re wrong Scott) for a 2 count. Houston gets a sunset flip off the second rope, but Jericho rolls through & gets a Lion Tamer for the submission win.
Scott Putski vs Bobby Eaton July 25, 1998 Scott Hudson says Putski is a tweener, someone who can compete with the cruiserweights & heavyweights. Shoulder by Putski, but Eaton picks the toe, running into a Putski arm drag & arm bar for what feels like forever. Eaton backs him to the corner, hits a few rights, but Putski fights back & nearly kills Bobby Eaton with a back drop. Clothesline by Putski, who signals for the Polish Hammer, but hits a spinebuster/powerbomb instead for the 3 count. This was really terrible stuff. Eaton clearly just doesn’t want to be there anymore & Putski was sloppy as hell.
Roadblock vs Lash LeRoux July 25, 1998 The future Ragin Cajun is here as the bell sounds & Roadblock nails a belly to belly suplex immediately. He hoists Lash high in the air & chucks him to the corner with chops & knees. He misses a corner elbow & Lash hits 1 chops before Roadblock floors him. Big boot & the elbow gets 2, so Roadblock hits a Stun Gun, then does his Dead End Drop, backflip over the top rope on the apron for the 3! This was the best his finisher looked in all the matches I’ve watched.

WCW Saturday Night (August & September 1998) Meng's Murder Bonanza
Roadblock vs Jim Powers August 1, 1998 Can my boy keep up his winning ways? Zero clue Jimmy Powers was hanging tough here as he gets caught in the clutches & launched to the corner as Roadblock puts the boots to him. He murders the Young Stallion with a lariat & bodyslam, then nails an elbow drop for 2. Bearhug applied as Powers fights free & Roadblock misses a corner splash. 10 slams into the top buckle as Powers gets off some chops, charges & runs right into a powerslam by the big man to give Roadblock the 3 count!
Ernest Miller vs Ciclope August 1, 1998 Early bodyslam by Cat, who tries throwing a roundhouse kick, but Ciclope dodges & pokes Miller in the eyes. Short clothesline and a few headbutts lead to a rest hold by the luchador, but he has to let go, as apparently it was a choke. Ciclope misses a senton into the corner as Miller hits a superkick & bodyslam as he connects with the Feliner flush for the 3 count.
Sick Boy vs Lizmark Jr. August 1, 1998 Sick Boy doesn’t even get an entrance here as Lizmark tries a butterfly suplex, floats over & gets a school boy for 2. Moonsault off the top get a 2 count as Lodi jumps in the ring, then quickly goes right back outside to give Sick Boy the advantage with a spinning suplex for 2. After some corner work, Lizmark gets a small package for 2, but Sick Boy fights back with knees. He misses a corner splash & Lizmark gets a drop toe hold before going up top & a missile dropkick for 2. Again up top, but Lizmark crashes off a missed cross body. Sick Boy hits a FUCKING PEDIGREE for the 3 count.
Horace vs Barry Horowitz August 8, 1998 Arm drag by Barry, who pats himself on his back to start as he does it again, but eats a Horace clothesline. They plug Raven vs Saturn vs Kanyon at Road Wild happening TONIGHT, but also plug Saturn vs Kanyon LATER ON THIS SHOW! Continuity was nonexistent in WCW. Horace nails a back suplex, but Barry gets a small package for 2. Running knee by Horace and the noise Barry makes selling it was quite something. Big time boot by Horace sends Barry outside as they brawl outside & Barry nails a baseball slide, sending Horace into the railing. Horace gets back in & nails a powerslam for 2. Horace goes up top & hits an awful looking splash, but picks him up before the 3 count. He decides to hit a Full Nelson Slam for the 3. This was far more competitive than you’d think.
Roadblock vs Jim Neidhart August 8, 1998 This match actually happened! They just have a slugfest to start, which Roadblock wins, he charges & misses a splash and Anvil locks on a fucking bearhug on the 400 pounder. That lasted 10 seconds as Roadblock applied one back, releases & just chokes away in the ropes. He drops the double axe down, but Anvil hits a low blow right in front of Nick Patrick. He bites Roadblock’s head, but the big man fires back with knees & a corner clothesline. Anvil shoots a double leg, but it doesn’t work as they keep slugging away & Anvil really wants a bearhug to rest I assume. Roadblock returns the favor & bites his head, chopping away to the corner as these punches are fucking stiff by both dudes. Roadblock connects with a clothesline & makes a mistake, going to the top rope (that’s right), missing a huge splash. Anvil measures & hits a giant shoulder tackle for the 3 count. Neidhart had his feet on the ropes as well, so he’s randomly heel here, despite getting cheered.
Meng vs Hugh Morrus August 8, 1998 Morrus takes the ref & Jimmy Hart hops on the back of Meng, but gets slammed off and Morrus attacks. We spill outside and brawl literally for 2 minutes with no count out. Back inside, Meng chokes Morrus & goes after Jimmy again, then applies a nerve hold. Hard corner chops as Scott Hudson talks about how uncomfortable this is to watch. Morrus eats a superkick & Meng applied the death grip briefly on Jimmy Hart as Morrus takes over with a corner splash. He tries for another one, but Meng moves & gets the Death Grip. Barbarian hits the ring and it’s a 3 on 1 attack for the DQ. Then, Hacksaw Duggan makes the save for “his new best friend, Meng” we’re told as the Dungeon of Doom bails and Duggan & Meng stare each other down. I have no idea, folks.
Chavo Guerrero vs Damien August 8, 1998 Damien isn’t falling for the Pepe shenanigans, as he attacks Chavo, but poses & Chavo pulls him down by the hair. Snap back suplex, but he sinks in a rest hold, allowing Damien to turn the tide & drop a head low. For some reason the referee turned his head right when that happens, funny how things like that work. Out of nowhere, DAMIEN HITS A MUSCLE BUSTER 1…2…NO! Holy shit, wasn’t expecting that, as he gets a front slam & tries a springboard moonsault, but misses. Chavo hits his Tornado DDT to get the 3. Aside from the Muscle Buster, this was a boring match.
Juventud Guerrera vs Tokyo Magnum August 22, 1998 Magnum nails an early dropkick & does the Alex Wright dance until Juvi fights back with chops & a head scissors sending Magnum outside. Juvi with a slingshot plancha, but misses a corner splash inside, allowing Magnum to hit a bulldog. Some quick pelvic thrusts lead to a butterfly suplex & standing moonsault for 2. Juvi gets up a corner boot & strong lariat as he hits a springboard dropkick to the back of the head. Hurricanrana by Juvi, but Magnum rolls through & gets a 2 count. They trade go behinds & Juvi floats over a German suplex & plants Magnum with a Juvi Driver for the 3 count.
Meng vs Evan Karagias August 29, 1998 Apparently this wasn’t an actual match, Meng was just already in the ring waiting for who knows what. Evan makes his entrance, gets in the ring & Meng just chokes him out with the Death Grip. Scott Norton & Vincent go to the ring and randomly make the save? Meng superkicks Vincent down & Norton gets in his face and we have a slugfest. They brawl all over ringside & to the back.
Wrath vs Trevor Blanchard August 29, 1998 The first few minutes were Wrath launching Blanchard from pillar to post & hit a gut wrench suplex. Big side suplex that Wrath spins him in mid air & drops an elbow on the back in mid air, which was nowhere nearly impressive as that sounds. Blanchard ducks a clothesline & runs into a shoulder block as Wrath destroys him with a Meltdown for the win. Blanchard got nothing in this, which is good.
Jerry Flynn vs Meng August 29, 1998 They brawl immediately as Meng hits a corner splash & chops Flynn to the mat. Hard chop & bodyslam as Meng hits a thrust chop to the throat. Flynn fires off kicks, but Meng quickly mauls Thunderfoot in the corner once more. Flynn hits a roundhouse kick to the back of the head, dropping Meng, who catches Flynn’s crossbody & drops him with a backbreaker. Flynn fires back with rights & Meng no sells as he ducks another roundhouse kick & slap on the Tongan Death Grip for the victory. For the little time given, this was hard hitting.
Ernest Miller vs Bull Pain September 5, 1998 So this match was garbage. Cat, who is barefoot, stomped on the feet on Pain, who was wearing boots, to start. They talked about how Miller isn’t liked by WCW fans, so they put him in here with Bull, WHO IS PLAYING THE HEEL! It makes me believed this was taped a long time ago. They brawl to the floor to let Bull take over & back inside, Pain goes up top, missing a splash. Cat with chops & a short arm clothesline and high back drop. Miller hits a kick to the ribs & nails a Feliner to the tits & Miller gets the win.
Scott Norton vs Bobby Eaton September 5, 1998 Poor Bobby Eaton didn’t even get an entrance here as they were busy teasing Meng vs Norton, a match I can’t ever remember getting. Norton just chokes away at Eaton in the ropes & Vincent gets in a few cheap shots on the floor as Norton rakes away at the face inside followed by a bodyslam. Norton misses a splash in the corner, Eaton throws off some patented rights, but Norton just no sells them & hits a powerbomb for the win.
Scott Putski vs Mean Mike (w/Tough Tom) September 5, 1998 Putski catches a boot & asks the crowd what to do, but they don’t care, so he clotheslines Mike down & hits a suplex for 2. Tom trips Putski up & his attention turns to outside, allowing Mean Mike to attack from behind. Tom literally throws a punch right in front of the ref, who doesn’t call the DQ. Back inside, Mike gets a bodyslam for 2, but misses a corner splash. Putski bounces out of the corner & hits a clothesline and snap powerslam as he signals for the Polish Hammer & hits it in the corner, but Mike rolls to the floor & Tough Tom pops in with the ref distract (by a bird or something, I have no clue what). Putski promptly hits Tom with the Putski Bomb for the 3 count, on the wrong guy.
Raven vs Renegade September 5, 1998 Raven fires off corner strikes & a tumbleweed as Renegade fights back with shots & dropping Raven over the top. Pump handle backbreaker by the former TV champ as Raven counters with rolling Side Russian Leg Sweeps as he tosses Renegade to the floor, where Kanyon throws a boot. Raven drops a boot off the apron & almost looks like he falls at the same time. Back inside, snap mare & elbow to the noggin as he tries a corner Vader Bomb, but Renegade gets the knees up. Big corner splash & a suplex as he hits a snap powerslam, but misses a splash. Renegade goes for his handspring elbow in the corner, but misses & Raven connects with an Even Flow for the win. Much more competitive than you’d expect.
Giant vs Van Hammer September 5, 1998 Bell sounds & Hammer starts quick, throwing corner forearms, but Giant reverses a corner whip & Hammer takes a hard buckle. Superkick by Giant, who hits a Choke Slam for the win. Probably for the best this went 40 seconds.
Wrath vs Barbarian September 12, 1998 Clothesline & boots to the corner by Wrath as Barb just eats all of this, barely selling a bit as he just shoves Wrath away, who charges back with more offense. Barb misses a clothesline, but gets the powerslam & does nothing to follow as he does end up hitting a corner splash. Corner chops by Barb, but Wrath answers with a leaping shoulder tackle & hits the Meltdown (barely, he almost killed Barb) for the win. Post match, Hugh Morrus attacks & Meng makes the save as Barb & Morrus bail. For some reason this pisses Wrath off that he got help, so he & Meng just brawl to end the segment.
Meng vs Bull Pain September 19, 1998 Corner destruction by Meng as he boots, chops & headbutts Bull, who tries throwing some shots, that have zero effect. Knife edge chops & a superkick send Pain to the floor as Meng is out after him, dropping him on the steps face first. Back inside, Meng keeps chopping the hell out of poor Bull, then slaps on the Tongan Death Grip for the pinfall win. I’m shocked Bull lasted 90 seconds to be honest.
Wrath vs Hugh Morrus September 19, 1998 Drop toe hold by Wrath is what starts us off, which is hilarious to me. Corner splash by Morrus, but he poses after it, allowing Wrath to get some knees to the belly welly before chucking The Laughing Man outside. They brawl a bit on the floor before heading back inside. Wrath tries a slingshot clothesline, but Morrus I guess was supposed to catch him & really didn’t, they just crumbled to the mat. Randomly, Jimmy Hart jumps in the ring and stands over Wrath, shit talking him, so Wrath pulls him down onto him as Morrus went for No Laughing Matter, landing on his manager & Wrath. Apparently Jimmy acted as a shield as Wrath popped right up & hit the Meltdown for the 3 count. Really stupid, WCW like finish, so it was right where it belonged.
Hector Garza vs Silver King September 19, 1998 Two future LWO members going to battle as they start with your traditional lucha offense & counters with Garza hitting a tilt a whirl back breaker, but King hits a Tornado DDT for a near fall. Chops in the corner as King hits a step up spin kick & he just looks at the crowd, then misses his senton in the corner. Garza battles back, but King slides to the floor & back inside, suckering Garza in with a lariat for 2. King goes to the top, moonsault, but he lands on his feet & Garza clocks him with a lariat of his own. To the corner we go as Garza wants a rana, but King low blows him right in front of the ref, but misses a huge senton. Garza tries for his corkscrew senton, but he too misses. King punts him in the face & hits a whirly bird slam, then a standing somersault legdrop for the 3 count. Silver King picks up a rare singles win in WCW!
Meng vs Damien September 26, 1998 Bell sounds & Meng goes clubberin as he beats the living crap out of Damien, hitting a superkick & slapping on the Tongan Death Grip for the insanely short squash. Fans went nuts for Meng here, it baffles me they didn’t do more with him.
Power Company vs The Armstrong’s September 26, 1998 I can’t believe Power Company is still in business, I also can’t believe it’s been YEARS of seeing these two pop up on this show, but still we don’t hear their actual names. One of them hit an early butterfly suplex on Scott & Steve dropkicks him down and bodyslams the other PC member onto his partner. One of the PC trip up Steve & the other drops a leg. It’s weird, both teams are playing heel in this as the PC aren’t making legal tags & taunting Scott, while the Armstrong’s are talking shit to the fans too. You can tell Mike Tenay & Scott Hudson have zero idea what their names are either as. They look to hit what I believe will be a Hart Attack, but we camera cut to the crowd, so they must’ve botched it. Scott Hudson talks about some guy on a radio show he works for, Steve Barnes & called him the Loser of the Year, showing bad sportsmanship at a sporting event with WCW talent. I have no idea. For some reason, Scott Armstrong turns babyface off a hot tag & ends up hitting an assisted missile dropkick for the 3 count. This was super weird.

One of the biggest joys of this series has been going back and watching all these Roadblock matches. My only memory of him was getting torture racked by Luger on Nitro. Apparently this guy was a Saturday Night institution!

One of the biggest joys of this series has been going back and watching all these Roadblock matches. My only memory of him was getting torture racked by Luger on Nitro. Apparently this guy was a Saturday Night institution! This was sadly the last time Roadblock will be on this list. The Neidhart match was the last listed WCW match. Legendary run!

WCW Saturday Night (October 1998) Renegade vs Rick Steiner October 3, 1998 Renegade attacks at the bell, corner clothesline & hangs him up over the top rope. Renegade misses a follow clothesline & Steiner connects with the scoop powerslam & Steiner-line. Renegade tries for his corner handspring elbow, misses & Steiner hits the top rope bulldog for the quick 3.
Ernest Miller vs Bobby Blaze October 3, 1998 They trade arm drags before Cat cheap shots Blaze, choking away. Thrust chop to the throat & weird looking clothesline as he jaw jacks with the crowd before superkicking Blaze down, who catches a second one with a dragon screw, but Miller pops up, boots Blaze down & connects with the Feliner for the quick win.
Jerry Flynn vs Ciclope October 3, 1998 What a weird pairing, even for WCW, as Flynn hits a spin kick to the corner & chokes away. Ciclope barely hit a spin kick of his own & Flynn foot sweeps him on the apron. Damien avoids a corner splash & nails a missile dropkick and senton for 2. Flynn regains control with a lariat & spin kick again as 5 minutes into this match, he gets an arm bar. Ciclope quickly escapes & gets a 2 count off a roll up, misses a clothesline, so Flynn hits another superkick. He sets up Ciclope in the corner, who tries for a hurricanrana, but Flynn powerbombs out of it. Judo throw into a cross arm breaker wins it for Flynn & his mullet.
Konnan vs Vincent October 3, 1998 We actually get a Vincent promo before Konnan comes out & does his deal. Match starts and Konnan locks on an extremely sloppy leg lock, then tries essentially Gargano Escape, but releases to just put the boots to Virg. Eye poke by Virg, who gets a clothesline, but misses a second rope fist drop. Rolling clothesline by K-Dogg, who hits a bulldog for 3. This was an atrocious match. Konnan couldn’t make his mind up what submission to try and Vincent had zero clue how to sell them.
DDP vs Stevie Ray October 3, 1998 Stevie cries of a hair pull after an arm drag as DDP gets a school boy for 2. They trade arm bars before DDP tries a sunset flip & Stevie punches out, poses & almost gets rolled up for 2. They both pop up & Stevie nails a clothesline as Page takes a hard buckle & Stevie hits a backbreaker for 2. DDP escapes a rest hold with a neck breaker, but Stevie tries a Slap Jack, opts for a jaw breaker, shoots Page off, who floats over & Diamond Cuts Stevie for the win.
Vincent vs Barry Horowitz October 17, 1998 Barry has his work cut out for him this week as Virg hits sloppy clubbing blows to start, tries a Tornado Bulldog, but Barry back suplexes out of it. Barry slingshots Vince back inside as Virg calls time out, tries for a Stun Gun, but Barry misses the top rope by a mile. Vince keeps paint brushing Horowitz, who crotches Virg on the ropes & fires off uppercuts and a dropkick. Legdrop gets a 2 count, but Barry pats himself on the back, allowing Vincent to hit his Flatliner into the fujiwara armbar for the submission. Crowd didn’t care and I’m baffled Virgil is still getting TV matches in 98 (I know he stuck around into 2000).
Wrath vs Rex King October 17, 1998 Wrath attacks the former Well Dunn member, but King gets off a dropkick & forearm as Wrath just absorbs it into a tilt a whirl backbreaker. King takes a hard buckle as Wrath is heeling it up in this match, as King gets a boot up in the corner. He hits the ropes & gets creamed with a lariat as Wrath beats him up a bit outside & launches him into the railing. Back inside, Wrath connects with a shoulder block & Meltdown for the 3 count.
Bret Hammer vs Barry Darsow October 17, 1998 I believe this is the debut of Mr. Hole in One as Darsow is out talking golf lingo as he claims he got his PGA card. Darsow says he has a tee time in a half hour, apologizing to Hammer, who he says this was his debut. He packs his golf bag up and leaves. The ref counts to 10 and Hammer wins via countout. They actually wasted time with this. Hilariously, Hammer looked at the crowd after getting his hand raised and said “That’s 1, baby!”
Konnan vs Lodi October 17, 1998 Konnan cheap shots Lodi at the bell & does his somersault clothesline. Commentary putting over how Chucky from the Child’s Play movies is going to be at Halloween Havoc as a set up by Scott Steiner, Eric Bischoff & Hulk Hogan. WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT??? Lodi gets a back elbow & struggled to make a cover as he’s upset his belt broke on his leather shorts. I have zero fucking clue what happens next. Whatever it was, Scott Hudson said “nicely done” which, go fuck yourself Hudson. Lodi hits a snap suplex & poses as it’s just clubbing blows until Konnan hits a bulldog, superkick to the ribs & face buster. Tequila Sunrise attempted & applied horribly as Lodi just submits and this was next level terrible.
Perry Saturn vs The Gambler October 17, 1998 Saturn works a headlock, but Gambler escapes with a hammerlock & rope break. They reverse each other with waist locks, but Gambler takes over with boots & knees as he stomps on the hand of Saturn, which pisses him off. He fires back, beating the crap out of my boy & cracks him with a superkick. Saturn does the deal & hits a Falcon Arrow, then puts away Gambler with the DVD for the win.
Scott Hall vs Disorderly Conduct WCW Tag Team Titles October 17, 1998 So this had to be a rib, right? Scott Hall vs Disorderly Conduct? This was during Hall’s drunk “gimmick” phase & he’s riding solo here as I think Giant was the other tag champ, but zero idea where he was. It doesn’t matter as Hall takes the fight to Mike & Tom early, but Conduct gains control & Hall sells pretty well. Mike tags Tom & they punt at the ribs, which wakes Hall up & he starts hulking up almost & elbows and punches his way out of the corner. Discus right hand & a fall away slam on Tough Tom as Mean Mike jumps in to get choke slammed. Hall mocks the Giant, who again, is his tag partner, as he asks the fans which member of Conduct he should hit with the Outsider’s Edge. Turns out it was Mean Mike as Hall murders him with one, but does one to Tom for good measure for the 3 after stacking them up on each other.
Vincent vs Johnny Swinger October 24, 1998 Corner chops by Vince, who floats over & pops Johnny with right hands. Hip toss until Swinger hits a neckbreaker sending Vince outside. He suckers Swinger in & cheap shots him as he drops a leg over the neck in the ropes as he punts him outside. Vincent out to get him & nails a running clothesline off the apron. He gets a hammerlock & drives him into the steps as he drops Swinger with an arm breaker & gets a fujiwara arm bar for the submission. It took a comically long time for Vincent to figure out how to apply this arm bar.
Meng vs British Bulldog October 24, 1998 This was Bulldog’s last match in WCW & honestly I thought he was done after Fall Brawl when he hurt his back. Maybe this was taped well before that September PPV? Meng oddly stalls as the crowd is chanting for Goldberg for zero reason, while Bulldog slams Meng’s head into the corner & Meng no sells. Shoulders to the midsection, but more no selling by Meng, who boots Bulldog down. Davey floats over & slaps on a sleeper, but Meng takes him down, chopping in the corner, missing a splash & Davey gets the sleeper again. Meng drives him into the corner & chomps at his head before applying a nerve hold. Bulldog mounts a comeback & Meng takes his first bump of the match as they spill outside. Wrath shows up & attacks Meng, as Alex Wright hits the ring & lays out Davey Boy with a chair. They’re talking about who’s the biggest star in Europe as I wonder if these two were going to wrestle at Halloween Havoc? Alex Wright & Finlay fought instead of Bulldog. I love how they cut to Mean Gene backstage, who said that changes to the Halloween Havoc card have been made, but due to political circumstances, he can’t say them here, SO CALL THE HOTLINE!
Disciple vs Lenny Lane October 24, 1998 Disciple is a member of One Warrior Nation (NWO in reverse, get it?) as they trade arm bars early while Scott Hudson talks about how Hulk Hogan turned on his “deceased brother’s son” Horace, JUST SAY NEPHEW! Hudson & Larry are just pimping Hogan vs Warrior this entire match, which is honestly for the best as this match is dog shit. Lenny is getting heat on Brutus, who is selling the shit out of Lane’s offense before he reversed a whip into the railing. Back inside, Lenny just no sold that shit & attacks, but eats a cross body for 2. Again Lenny takes control with chokes, before Butcher finally just no sells this & throws a few rights and LENNY FIRES BACK AGAIN! He slaps on a sleeper on Brutus Beefcake, who hooks his head & hits his Stunner he apparently calls The Apocalypse for the 3 count. This was a terrible 5 minute match.
Sonny Onoo vs Kaz Hayashi October 31, 1998 Sonny is wearing a sweet ass NJPW windbreaker and I wish I owned it. Sonny stalls like a motherfucker, then with the ref’s attention turned, checking him for weapons, Ernest Miller hops in the ring & kicks Kaz in the head. Sonny puts one foot on him & gets the 3 count.
Chip Minton vs Lenny Lane October 31, 1998 Minton floated over a hip toss & got a few of his own, as Lenny bailed to the floor. Eye poke by Lenny, who tries a backdrop, but Minton lands on his feet again & he dropkicks Lenny down, but misses a follow leg drop. Minton is apparently a former Olympic bobsledder, so of course, keep him on Saturday Night where no one knows him. LENNY LANE DOES THE PEOPLE’S ELBOW, but a legdrop instead, for 2. Lenny misses a clothesline & Minton sends him outside as he offers Lenny the ropes to get back in & he suckers him in. He gets a suplex for 2 as Mike Tenay is baffled why he’s breaking the rules (LANE DID THE SAME THING EARLIER IN THE MATCH, MIKE!). Lenny misses a corner splash, so Minton hits a standing splash for the 3. Weird match.

Konnan is the least talented wrestler to ever get a big push. I'm sorry. I know there are a lot of Warrior detractors here. Warrior was NOT a worse wrestler than Konnan. Holy fuck. Seriously. What is this shit? He was almost 10 years in the business at this point. How do you wrestle a decade and continue to be that bad?

WCW Saturday Night (November & December 1998)
Scott Norton vs Barry Horowitz November 7, 1998 Norton is IWGP World Champ at this point and here he is, on Saturday Night, with Virgil in his corner, wrestling Barry Horowitz. Fuckin hell. Barry throws punches & Norton no sells, chucking Horowitz outside, so Vince can get in some weak shots. Barry throws punches & VINCENT NO SELLS! Short arm clothesline back inside as literally anything Horowitz has thrown, to either NWO member, they’ve no sold. Finally Norton no sells a jawbreaker & murders Barry with a powerbomb for the 3.
El Dandy vs Rey Mysterio November 7, 1998 Quick takedown, hip toss & wheelbarrow arm drag as Rey gets the fast start. Springboard head scissors sends Dandy outside, who gets inside & pops Rey with a right hand. Boot in the corner & bulldog by Dandy, who gets a 2. Perfect gut wrench powerbomb for another near fall. Rey gets off a springboard cross body for 2, hits a pop up hurricanrana as he throws forearms & hits a corner clothesline. Rey hits a Tope Suicida, but I think Dandy was suppose to catch him as he was up first & slams Rey into the steps. Dandy eats the post inside as Rey sets him up in the corner, top rope hurricanrana for the 1…2…KICK OUT!! Psychosis hits the ring to cause the DQ, but gets facebustered down. La Parka, Eddie, Damien, Hector Garza & Spyder all get in the ring as Eddie offers Rey a LWO shirt, but he leaves.
Lex Luger vs Giant November 7, 1998 Gee, I wonder if this will end in a DQ? They take turns posing as both men make the other break with a smile as Giant chops Lex to the corner, charges & eats a Lex boot. Package fights back with boots & corner clothesline, but Giant nails a clothesline out of the corner. He stands on Lex’s chest as Scott Hudson tells us “NWO Hollywood is in the hizz-ouse” and I immediately get douche chills. Here’s our rest hold with a bear hug as Luger gets free with some clotheslines & one from the second rope to drop the big man. Lex forearms Giant to the floor as here comes Horace Hogan, who gets hit with the Torture Rack. Scott Hall runs out & he gets Racked as well. Lex bails & the ref calls the DQ (shocker). It’s weird, Charles Robinson had his back turned when Horace & Hall ran out, still called the DQ, turned around and was shocked Lex had Hall in the rack. HOW DID HE KNOW TO CALL THE DQ??
Vincent vs Johnny Swinger November 14, 1998 So this was a not so highly anticipated rematch from last month. Knee to the ribs & a corner chop by Virgil, who just punches away until Swinger gets a jawbreaker. He tries a suplex, but Vincent just falls into the corner & eats a Swinger back elbow. Johnny misses a second rope elbow & Vincent hits a Flatliner into a fujiwara armbar for the submission win. At least this was better than their previous match, the arm bar looked better. Thankfully this went all 45 seconds.
Meng vs Scott Putski November 14, 1998 Putski still rocking the Puffy Shirt to the ring. Putski fires off punches early, but Meng no sells all of them, chopping him hard to the corner, choking away. Slugfest ensues, with, you guessed it, Meng winning. He drops a boot on the bread basket & plants Putski with a piledriver for 2. Putski hits a few clotheslines, but Meng no sells. He hits a clothesline off the second to finally drop the big man as he hits a Polish Hammer, which Meng no sells. He hits the ropes for another, but runs right into the Tongan Death Grip for the win.
Horace & Stevie Ray vs Disorderly Conduct November 14, 1998 I think it’s hilarious, Vincent isn’t in the corner of the NWO, he’s standing close to Disorderly Conduct’s corner, simply because it’s in the hard cam. Virgil wants his TV time! Eventually he meanders over to his NWO running buddies as Horace misses a corner splash & Tough Tom tags in with an arm drag. He tries a hip toss, but Horace launches him outside where Stevie beats him up. Horace hits a clothesline back inside, tags Stevie as Vincent returns to milking the hard cam. Side suplex by Stevie, who tags in Horace, cracking Mean Mike with a boot, then the NWO hit a Spike Piledriver on Tom for the 3 count.
Raven (w/Kanyon) vs Eddie Guerrero November 14, 1998 This is a weird ass pairing for late 98, but I’m all for it. Raven just sits in the corner as Eddie puts the boots to him & he just takes it. Eddie dropkicks him until Raven gets a low blow and doesn’t get DQ’d due to Raven’s Rules I guess. He pounces on Eddie, choking away as he tosses him outside. Eddie sent hard into the railing as Raven tosses him inside & hits the drop toehold onto the chair. Eddie turns the tide with a spinning back elbow & hits his slingshot senton from the apron with a chair onto Raven. He hits a brainbuster & signals for the finish as Kanyon hops up and crotches Eddie, REFEREE CALLS FOR THE DQ??? We had a low blow & chair shots in this match, but that’s what gets a DQ? The LWO rush out to save Eddie as Raven & Kanyon bail. Tremendously let down by this match, which was apparently the main event of this show.
Scott Steiner vs Lenny Lane November 21, 1998 They have that shitty NWO referee in this one as Lenny gets attacked at the bell. Steiner essentially just mauls him in the ring & on the floor as Steiner shows off his six pack abs to ladies ringside, which, I should point out, are on the younger side. Moving on from that, back inside, Steiner poses, sets Lenny up in the Tree of Woe, hits a butterfly suplex & Steiner Recliner for the win.
Vincent vs Tokyo Magnum November 28, 1998 Shitty clubbing blows & corner chops by Vince, who hits his arm breaker & fujiwara arm bar for the submission win. This went 20 seconds.
Scott Putski vs Ciclope November 28, 1998 Ol’ Puffy shirt Putski makes his entrance as Ciclope decides to do jumping jacks & squats as Putski shoves him down. Ciclope tries for a shoulder block, but Putski doesn’t move & the luchador tumbles outside. Putski turns him inside with a clothesline & a Northern Lights, but Ciclope answers with a spinebuster, missing with a moonsault follow up. Putski fucks up a bulldog , so he just clotheslines him down again, hits the Polish Hammer, does the sign of the cross & hits the Putski Bomb for the win. I’ll give credit for Putski for trying to get some charisma going, but he just didn’t have it.
Bret Hart vs Booker T November 28, 1998 Bret stalls like crazy as Book finally works a hammerlock, but Bret gets a cheap shot & eye rake. He puts the boots to Book & chokes away in the corner, but Booker gets a knee to the ribs & spinning side kick. Scissors Kick connects as Booker misses an elbow, but spinaroonies up as Bret bails outside. Booker goes out after him & Bret hits him with a chair to cause the DQ. That was literally it, pretty shitty. Post match, Bret tries crippling Booker with a Sharpshooter & then Figure Four on the post, but Stevie Ray makes the save, despite being in the NWO.
Meng vs Buddy Lee Parker December 5, 1998 That old lady who once tried to hit Hulk Hogan on Nitro ringside is shown in the crowd here. I know it’s her, I’ll never forget that Golden Girl. Anyways, Meng chokes Parker in the corner, chopping away, but Parker throws shots & Meng just growls at him. Hard corner clothesline & Scott Hudson says “pay no attention to what you read on the internet, Meng is back with a vengeance.” So, was Meng supposed to have left WCW at this point? He hits a shoulder breaker for 2 as Meng applies a nerve hold, before stomping on the bread basket. Thrust chop, side kick & Tongan Death Grip wins it for Meng. “The Claw Hold of the 90s” is what Mike Tenay says and I would’ve 100% bought a shirt that said that.
Lenny Lane vs Pepe (w/Chavo Guerrero) December 12, 1998 Yeah, you read this right, Lenny Lane came out pissed that Pepe gets more camera time than he does, so he challenges him to a match. Chavo asks how much he’ll pay Pepe and Lenny says he’ll pay in sugar cubes. Lenny attacks and this is an actual match. Lenny drops Chavo and DROPS A KNEE TO THE STICK HORSE. Chavo gets dropped with a clothesline & running bulldog as he paint brushes Pepe. Chavo fights back with a dropkick & Lenny grabs Pepe, throws him in the air and Chavo tries to catch him & eats a Lenny boot. Lenny sends Chavo to the floor as LENNY HITS A LEGDROP ON PEPE, makes the cover, but Mickey Jay doesn’t count, then reluctantly does, but Chavo…makes the save for his stick horse. Springboard bulldog as Chavo rides Pepe, hits a Tornado DDT & places Pepe on top of Lenny as the ref counts 3. This was asinine, even for WCW.
Norman Smiley vs Villano V December 12, 1998 Smiley works an arm bar, but Villano escapes into a crucifix for a near fall. Clubbing blows by Smiley, who hits a whirlybird bodyslam & does the Big Wiggle, allowing Villano to recover & attack. He takes Smiley down & hits a legdrop as this match gets super sloppy & Villano hits a dropkick. Few chops & boot, they keep going back to the drop down spot & finally Villano hits a terrible looking Exploder as Smiley gets a backslide for 2. Villano tries throwing a lariat, but Smiley catches him in the Norman’s Conquest, the chicken wing, for the submission. This was a really sloppy wrestling match.
Glacier vs Mike Sullivan December 19, 1998 Dropkick by Sullivan early as he follows with a bodyslam & dropkick, but Glacier must’ve no sold as Sullivan sells like he missed it. Big boot out of the corner by Glacier, who eats some Sullivan right hands, so he leg sweeps him. Nice suplex as Glacier opts to choke him instead of covering him. Sullivan tries a comeback, but eats a Cryonic Kick. That’d usually be the finish, but this is heel Glacier, so he wins it with The Ice Pick, an Asiatic Spike.
Wrath vs Al Green December 19, 1998 Green attacks at the bell with boots & forearms, then drops him with a clothesline, but poses. Wrath pops right up & fires off some chops & corner knees as he hits a leaping shoulder tackle, putting Green away with a Meltdown for the quick squash.

Watching Bret and Booker T in WCW makes me so angry. They had all these one-off matches on Saturday Night and Nitro and they were all really good but none of them meant anything. Booker was ready for the main event in 1998. For that matter, so were Jericho, Benoit, and Eddie. But..nWo.

WCW Saturday Night (January & February 1999) The Gambler vs Chase Tatum January 9, 1999 MY BOY IS STILL AROUND & HE KICKS OFF THE NEW YEAR!! Knee to the ribs & clubbing blow by Gambler, who drives the shoulder to the gut in the corner. Tatum ducks a clothesline & hits a spinning back suplex for the 3! This match went less than 30 seconds and it’s a massive load of bullshit! Gambler was robbed!!
Bam Bam Bigelow vs Al Greene January 9, 1999 Not even in the company for a few months & Bammer already pulls Saturday Night duty. He corner splashes Greene, who tries for some lariats & Bammer no sells, swatting Greene down like a fly. Stalling vertical suplex, rest hold, then a fucking Ghetto Blaster enzugiri by Bigelow! He shoots Greene off & hits the Greetings From Asbury Park for the win. Dominant win for the Beast from the East.
Bobby Duncum Jr. vs Bull Payne January 9, 1999 Bull gets in a few shots, misses a clothesline & both he and Duncum tumble over the top to the floor. Duncum wants to use the steps, but the ref stops him, so he gets his bull rope & dives off the steps at Bull. They have a pretty lengthy battle outside & finally Duncum hits a flying clothesline off the top for 2. Jawbreaker by Bull, who gets a boot, charges & Duncum powerslams him down for 2. DDT by Bull for 2, but Duncum fires back with a lariat as Bull gets his foot on the rope. Second rope elbow, but again, Bull gets the rope break. Running bulldog out of the corner gets the 3 count for Duncum as this was a much more fun brawl than I thought it was going to be.
Chad Fortune vs Fidel Sierra January 16, 1999 So he’s listed as David Sierra, but he’s been Fidel Sierra for years in WCW, so he randomly has a first name change? He’s facing the former Tekno Team 2000 member, who hits a hip toss, bodyslam & another, then does a wonky little fist drop, but can’t make a proper cover as Fidel rolls outside. Back inside, Fortune rolls through an arm bar into one of his own and has zero facial expressions; he just looks bored (that makes two of us). He hits a flying forearm & a low back drop and a side Russian leg sweep for the 3 count. I don’t care, neither do the fans, hell, neither does Fortune!
Meng vs Mike Tolbert January 16, 1999 The Meng Murder Train rolls on as Tolbert attacks at the bell & Meng just no sells everything, chops Tolbert down, superkicks him & slaps on the Tongan Death Grip for a super quick squash.
Damien vs Vincent January 23, 1999 Full minute of stalling by Virg, who slams Damien down with a hair pull, but misses an elbow. I have no idea if he actually planned this, but Virg pops up Damien & hot shots him clear over his head onto the top rope. He slams the luchador down & finally hits that dumb elbow he’s been trying a few times, but eats a corner boot and clothesline. Damien goes up top & misses a super senton as Vincent gets the arm breaker & fujiwara arm bar for the win. I can’t believe Damien put over Virgil.
Kenny Kaos vs Bull Payne January 23, 1999 Almost a standing back body drop by Kaos, who works the arm & transitions to a head lock as he boots Payne in the corner. Back suplex as Kaos drops a leg off the second rope for 2. Eye poke & a rake of the face across the top rope puts Bull in control as he tries a hip toss, but Kaos just drags him to the mat awkwardly & tries an arm breaker, but Payne gets the ropes. Jaw breaker by Bull, who wants a standing sunset flip & it looked terrible. Bull walks the second rope & tries an elbow, but misses as Kaos hits a snap powerslam and a springboard clothesline for the 3. This was not good.
Billy Kidman vs Lodi – Cruiserweight Championship February 3, 1999 Lodi still has the sign gimmick, despite Raven’s Flock breaking up months ago. Kidman gets a cross body off the top early for 2 as he goes for 10 punches in the corner, but Lodi drops him throat first on the top. 3 Amigos suplexes by Lodi, I’ll repeat, 3 Amigos from Lodi! He hits a back elbow, but goes to hold up a sign allowing Kidman to get a school boy for 2. Scott Hudson calls a Mr. Wrestling 2 knee lift by Lodi, who gets a powerslam for 2. Lodi loads up his glove, but drops the foreign object allowing Kidman to hit a bulldog for 2. Lodi tries a powerbomb, but Kidman hits his face buster, then goes up for a Shooting Star Press 1…2…3, Kidman landed right on Lodi’s face.
Meng (w/Jimmy Hart & Barbarian) vs Hector Garza February 6, 1999 Garza hits a few dropkicks, but Meng swats him down as Garza shoots a double leg & TAKES MENG DOWN! Meng pops right up and slams Garza down after a brief distraction by Jimmy Hart, but Garza baseball slides to the floor, where Barb murders him with a Boot of Fear, slides him back in & Meng gets the Tongan Death Grip for the win. Zero clue Meng & Barb had reunited.
Chris Jericho (w/Ralphus) vs Damien February 6, 1999 Hooray, the first appearance in these matches of Ralphus! Damien hits a springboard arm drag & corner dropkick as he scales the ropes, tries a rope walk, but Jericho crotches him & springboard dropkicks him to the apron. Suplex back inside as Jericho hits the Lionsault, puts a boot on him, but the ref doesn’t make the count! He slams Damien down, applies the Lion Tamer & gets the quick win. Post match, Jericho puts a dress on Damien & beats him up as he was feuding with Saturn at the time over having to wear a dress that ultimately went nowhere except Saturn actually liking that he had to wear a dress. Gee, I wonder why Jericho bailed?
Lash LeRoux vs Lenny Lane February 6, 1999 Battle of the LL’s here as Lash gets a sloppy ass roll up right out the gate for 2, Lenny gets a better one for 2, Lash gets sent to the floor & Lenny hits a somersault dive over the post! Hard whip to the railing, but Lash crotches Lenny on the barricade & jumps off with a hurricanrana! Pretty damn impressive, I must say, well done Ragin Cajun. Back inside, Lenny plants Lash down with a face buster for 2, goes up top for a cross body, but Lash rolls through for 2. Clubbing blows by the man who still has Chris Jericho’s Loverboy tape, but Lash gets a Northern Lights for 2. He tries for a side Russian leg sweep, but Lash counters into his Whiplash future shock finisher for the 3 count. This was a fun little match, something I don’t get to say much in 1999.
Johnny Swinger vs Vincent February 13, 1999 Vincent, cuts a pre-match promo saying his name isn’t Vincent anymore, it’s Vince, that was it. Anyways, we get Swinger vs Vince for the 3rd fucking time on Saturday Night as Vince gets a cheap shot & corner clothesline, but Swinger answers with a jaw breaker. He lowers the head & Vince hits the arm breaker & Fujiwara arm bar for the win. This went 40 seconds and was 35 seconds too long.
Hak vs Bull Payne February 20, 1999 Sandman comes out wearing barbed wire, so of course it takes him forever to take it off, so Bull attacks, but Hak sends him outside. Hak does a somersault into the railing, but he answers with a modified brainbuster on the floor! Back inside, he launches Bull hard to the corner as both men bump, but Bull gets an eye poke & rakes the face over the top rope. Hak regains control & hits a hurricanrana out of the corner, but doesn’t follow up and Bull gets a jaw breaker. Bull tries for the kendo stick, the ref takes it from him, allowing Hak to hit a White Russian Leg Sweep for the 3 count.
Barbarian vs Hector Garza February 20, 1999 Barb shows his power early, tossing Garza to the corner, but the luchador dropkicks Barb twice & clocks Jimmy Hart with a right hand, only to walk into a Barb lariat. Garza moonsaults over a charging Barb, lands on his feet, but Barb murders him with a Boot of Fear as he slaps on an arm bar…for the submission. Barbarian won via arm bar?
Hugh Morrus vs David Taylor February 20, 1999 Within 10 seconds, Morrus already applies a rest hold bear hug, which Taylor judo flips out of. Uppercuts by the Squire as Morrus answers with clubbing blows & a big time clothesline. Jimmy Hart starts choking Taylor, but the Blue Blood recovers quickly enough to regain control, working the arm, only for Morrus to answer with 3 corner splashes. That sets it up for No Laughing Matter for the 3 and the crowd was actually super into the Morrus finish.
Rey Mysterio & Konnan vs Lodi & Al Greene February 20, 1999 This was the last match Rey wore his mask for before Superbrawl. Rey hits a bunch of head scissors on Lodi, before Greene & Konnan tag in. Scott Hudson puts over how Goldberg made the biggest challenge in media on the Tonight Show and how WCW awaits a response (he challenged Steve Austin I think, but WWF was too busy winning the war to give a shit at this point). Greene presses Rey high in the air & slams him with a powerbomb. Tag to Lodi, who hits 3 Amigos, LODI WITH 3 AMIGOS for a 2 count. Quick tag to Greene, who levels Rey with a clothesline for 2. Rey gets a boot in the corner, tags Konnan, who hits multiple somersault lariats, sends Rey to a Bronco Buster on Lodi. Konnan & Greene fuck up a leap frog spot as Rey hits a top rope rana on Lodi and Konnan gets the Tequila Sunrise on Greene for the double finish.
Jerry Flynn vs The Disciple February 27, 1999 Scott Hudson putting over how much of a winning streak Lightningfoot is on. He beats Brutus up in the corner, but the Barber hits a short arm clothesline & fist drop, raking at the eyes. It’s weird, Disciple is working heel, all he’s doing is choking, threatening to hit the ref, but Flynn is heel too. Back elbow by Flynn, but Butcher hits an uppercut & backbreaker for 2. Rest hold by Brutus, but Flynn mounts his comeback, spinning back fist, spinning back kick, belly to belly, judo flip & cross arm breaker gets Jerry Flynn the submission! I can’t believe Brutus put over Flynn!
Van Hammer vs Johnny Swinger February 27, 1999 Hammer as the hippie loving dude is weird. He beals Swinger across the ring, but crotches himself missing a boot in the corner. Swinger works over the left leg & goes to work outside on it before hanging Hammer throat first over the top heading back inside. Swinger was supposed to miss a corner elbow, but Hammer didn’t get his arm up and Swinger looks annoyed. He hits the ropes, Hammer hits a snap powerslam & Cobra Clutch Slam, then an Alabama Slam he calls The Flashback for the 3 count. Swinger was super frustrated with this, you could tell.
Meng vs Kendall Windham February 27, 1999 Meng Special, no selling like a son bitch, as everything Kendall throws is met with nothing. Finally he rakes the eyes & a drop toe hold, but Meng pops up and chops Kendall down. MENG PUNTS HIM RIGHT IN THE FACE and it’s pretty brutal as every time Kendall throws something, Meng just knocks him down. He stomps on Windham’s belly, rakes the back, but Kendall fights back with chops. He throws Meng to the corner, wants a bulldog, but Meng powers him up, crotching him on the ropes. Enzugiri by Meng and the Tongan Death Grip win it. This was actually a fun brawl.
Saturn vs Buddy Lee Parker February 27, 1999 Sarge makes fun of Saturn wearing a dress, so he gets his ass kicked as a result. The ref distracts Saturn enough for Sarge to clothesline him to the floor & drop an axe handle jumping off the top rope. Saturn fights back and Mike Tenay says he thinks Saturn chooses to wear the dress “as incentive” but doesn’t elaborate. The hell are you talking about, Mike? Back inside, back suplex by Sarge, who goes up top & hits a diving knee drop into the gut for 2. That was sloppy as hell as Saturn just gets up and makes his comeback. He puts his dress over Sarge’s head and does the 10 punches in the corner, hits a top rope splash & plants Parker with the DVD for the 3.
Meng vs Barbarian February 27, 1999 Barb & Jimmy Hart challenge Meng, who fought already on this show, but he doesn’t care, Meng hits the ring to chase Jimmy Hart, as Barb attacks, only to get flattened. Meng no sells a corner clothesline, shoots a double leg & both guys are pouring down punches. Atomic drop by Barb, another one, he loads up the boot, but Meng pops him with a superkick. Jimmy Hart jumps in the ring & breaks a 2x4 over the head of Meng, who no sells & we get a DQ (apparently No Contest) as the Faces of Fear brawl all over ringside.

I thought Lash Leroux was a good wrestler who could have been utilized as something more than a Cajun Corporal.
Jerry Flynn got a win over Brutus?!?! Unbelievable. I think Flynn was a Kevin Sullivan guy. He loved that guy for some reason. Wait till you get to early 2000...Flynn will be all over those shows.

It's probably the most shocking win of this whole recap honestly. Brutus put over a lower level guy and also tapped out! When was the last time you remembered Brutus tapping out?

Fuckin hell, I counted how many WCW matches I've reviewed thus far in this thread. I could be off by only a couple, but I counted 660 matches thus far. And I still have 2 more years left before I'm finally done with WCW.

WCW Saturday Night (March, April & May 1999)
Scott Norton vs Bobby Blaze March 6, 1999 Drop toe hold out the gate by Blaze, who foolishly tries to hit the ropes & gets murdered by a lariat. Hard chops by Norton, who hangs Blaze up by the throat over the top & just pours down clubbing shots. Norton throws such hard chops, but Blaze gets a high knee, ducks a clothesline, so Norton just steam rolls over him, ending him with a brutal powerbomb for the 3. Scott Norton deserved so much better in WCW, he was fucking awesome.
Perry Saturn vs El Dandy March 6, 1999 Saturn wearing an elegant red dress for this contest as he hip tosses Dandy down, but Saturn pops up and they lose their spot, so Saturn just beats him down, in a dress remember. Dandy gets a back drop, head butt to the ribs, but misses a dropkick & Saturn clotheslines him down. Dandy charges & eats a boot in the corner as Saturn hits a crazy looking suplex, then puts away Dandy with the DVD for the 3. Post match, Jericho hits the ring to attack, but Saturn catches him before he can. Jericho wraps his fist in a chain & lays out Saturn as they apparently will be having a Dog Collar Match at the PPV.
Meng vs Barbarian March 6, 1999 Zero idea when they broke up, probably close to a year ago? Anyways, rematch from last week as Meng hits the ring and immediately piledrives Barb down! He doesn’t go for a cover; instead Barb pops up and eats corner chops. Both men run their own heads into the turnbuckle to show how they have zero effect as Meng bull rushes Barb in the corner with chops & sends him outside to regroup. They post each other & slam the other into the guard rail before Meng slams Barb head first into the steps, picks up the steps and just drops them on his former partner! Finally back inside, Barb pops up again, getting chopped & clotheslined in the corner. Barbarian somehow hits a vertical fucking suplex, then tunes up the band for his Boot of Fear, but misses & Meng hits a Crescent Kick. Hugh Morrus hit the ring to brawl with Meng and cause the DQ and hit him with a belly to belly. Jimmy Hart jumps in and hits Meng in the gut with a chair & in the head, but Meng no sells, turns into a monster and chases the heels off.
Joe Gomez vs Bobby Eaton March 6, 1999 I had to check the year, because I thoughts Gomez was done in 96, but here he is, 1999. Gomez with a hip toss & dropkick to send Eaton to regroup as he hits an arm drag & gets backed to the ropes as Eaton hits one shot, which Gomez answers & we get a proper lock up. Gomez hits the ropes & Eaton nails a knee to the midsection, goes to the top, but Gomez cuts him off & toss him down. Flying forearm by Gomez for the 3 count! Wow, Gomez does it!
Al Greene vs Damien March 13, 1999 Full nelson by Damien, but Greene quickly reverses & hits a shoulder tackle. Damien gets a reverse waist lock, tries a monkey flip & hits it, but tries again & gets tossed to the apron. Sunset flip inside for 2 as he hits a back elbow in the corner, charges & Greene nails a powerslam for 2. Big corner splash as Greene gets some back elbows & a butterfly suplex for 2. Damien with a boot in the corner & a clothesline as he goes up top, but Greene cuts him off with the slowest arm drag out of the corner you’ll ever see. He hits a top rope clothesline for the 3 count.
Prince Iaukea vs Vincent (w/Horace) March 13, 1999 Prince walks through the smoke & Vince attacks immediately, going into the ring with boots & chops. Prince shoots Virgil to the ropes and Virg just stops. He suckers Prince into tumbling outside, where he slams him into the steps and poses inside before going back to the floor & throwing terrible right hands. In the ring, Virg drops a fist, but Prince fires back with a superkick & chop. Bodyslam by the former TV Champ, who gets a back drop & Virgil begs off. Eye poke & he slings Prince into the post as he drops the arm breaker & Fujiwara arm bar for the submission. Horace did nothing out there, Vincent does more on the outside when he follows NWO members to the ring. Vincent is fucking blown up post match.
Blitzkrieg vs Super Calo March 20, 1999 This match should be fucking nuts as Blitzkrieg flips out of a hip toss, but Calo nails an early back elbow. Tilt a whirl side suplex for 2, but Blitz gets a wheelbarrow arm drag & dropsault. He moonsaults off the second, lands on his feet & Calo spin kicks him down for another 2. Bodyslam by Calo, who goes to the second & gets the legdrop (I think he did the splits onto the throat) as Blitz gets a spinning victory roll to catch Calo for 2. Blitz with a sunset flip for 2 as Calo hits a weird leapfrog superkick for 2 once more. Abdominal stretch that Blitz flips out of, rolling senton & standing spinning splash gets him a 2 this time and Calo boots him down, hitting a splash in the corner. Calo tries for a back superplex, but Blitz floats over, dropkicking Calo outside, where he hits a slingshot plancha. I think Calo caught him & slammed him down, but it didn’t come off that way. Regardless, Calo was up first & draped Blitz throat first on the railing, as Blitz reverses & sends Calo into the steps. Back inside, Blitz tries a springboard rana, but Calo powerbombs out 1…2…NO! Calo scales the ropes & jumps off for a legdrop I guess, but misses a mile, allowing Blitzkrieg to hit his Phoenix Splash for the win. A lot less high flying than I thought, but I dug the match regardless.
Rick Steiner vs Norman Smiley March 20, 1999 Norman gets in a few shots early, but Steiner hits his pick up powerslam. T-Bone suplex by Rick, goes for the cover, but Norman is tied up in the ropes. Cheap shot by Smiley, but Rick no sells & Norman hits the whirly bodyslam. He goes for the Big Wiggle, but Steiner cuts him off and mocks the dance before hitting a Steiner-Line. He goes up top & nails the Steiner Bulldog for the 3 count.
Lizmark Jr. vs Silver King March 27, 1999 Chops early from both, but Lizmark gets the takedown & does a flip before dropping King with a tilt a whirl back breaker. He moonsaults off the second, misses & King superkicks him. He charges & Lizmark sends him to the floor, where he connects with a wild dive on King! Back inside, King immediately dropkicks Lizmark to the opposite side of the floor & nails a springboard plancha off the second rope. Again inside, Silver King punts Lizmark in the face, bodyslams him down, tries for a double jump moonsault, but misses & Lizmark gets a victory roll for 2. He wants a second rope hurricanrana, but King hits him low & Lizmark falls back. King tries a super senton, misses & Lizmark goes to the top, but he misses a dive & King gets a 2 count. Whirly Bird by Silver King gets him the 3 count! Post match, he gets into the cameras face, licking the ring ropes, which can’t be sanitary in the least.
Scott Norton vs Chip Minton March 27, 1999 Norton gets an arm bar and Minton front flips out of it impressively, but Norton swats him down with a clothesline. He misses a follow splash & Minton dropkicks Norton down, big splash 1…2…Norton pops up and murders Minton with a lariat. Gut wrench suplex & back elbow, but Norton literally swats Minton’s dropkick out of the way in mid air. Big corner splash connects as he nails the massive powerbomb for the 3. Scott Norton. Badass.
Meng vs Mike Enos March 27, 1999 Beverly gets the upper hand in the early going, working an arm, but Meng & him collide with shoulders and neither sell. Meng gets fed up with someone other than him no selling, so he goes clubberin, sending Enos outside. After some stalling, Enos gets back in to get his ass kicked some more. It’s chops & kicks aplenty by Meng, who headbutts Enos in the corner & he takes a hard buckle. Enos tries a piledriver, Meng backdrops him, but Enos takes a Hot Shot instead of a back bump and looks scary. Enos with a clothesline, but Meng pops him with a superkick & Tongan Death Grip for the victory.
Vincent vs Barry Horowitz April 4, 1999 Like his match with Prince Iaukea last month, Vincent attacks his opponent walking through the entrance smoke. Bodyslam & fist drop off the second rope have Virgil in firm control as he goes up top this time & Barry dropkicks & crotches him. Hard uppercuts as he snapmares Vince off the top & pats himself on the back before snapmaring Vince down. Butterfly suplex & O’Connor Roll gets Horowitz a 2 as he rakes the eyes and chokes Virgil in the corner. Eye poke & shitty punches put Virgil in control as he arm drags Barry down, hits the arm breaker & applies the Fujiwara arm bar for the victory. Post match, Stevie Ray makes his way out to call Vincent a Fruit Booty and Vincent starts responding, despite not having a microphone, so he just screams into the camera hilariously.
Raven & Perry Saturn vs El Dandy & Damien April 17, 1999 Punch to the gut & knee lift combo by Raven & Saturn on Dandy, who tags in Damien. Raven hits a front suplex & Saturn nails a splash off the top to the back. Dandy jumps in & eats a T-Bone as they hit Total Elimination on Dandy. Raven hits the Even Flow on Dandy, Saturn hits a belly to back suplex on Damien as Raven gets the 3 count. I loved that Raven & Saturn broke out the old Eliminators finisher here.
Joe Gomez vs The Gambler April 17, 1999 Let’s see if Gomez can up his win streak to 2 here. School boy immediately gets a near fall for Gomez as Gambler gets a knee to the gut & works the arm. Gomez turns the tables with a shoulder block, hip toss, arm drag & dropkick combo. Gambler uses the tights to pull Gomez into the corner, then hits his patented back elbow VINTAGE GAMBLER 1…2…NO! There’s Goldberg chants for some fucking reason as Gomez is shot off the ropes, ducks a clothesline & hits a flying forearm for the 3. There’s massive boos from the crowd and I knew it, the crowd was cheering for The Gambler like I was.
Barry Windham vs Scott Armstrong April 24, 1999 Fast start by Armstrong, who gets a monkey flip, back elbow to the ribs & a sloppy bulldog. He tries a leap frog, but Windham catches him, sets him down & destroys him with a lariat before going outside & punching him before heading back in (why couldn’t you do that inside, Barry?). Hugh hip toss out of the corner as Barry plants him with a back suplex. Armstrong fires back with a dropkick, throws some punches, misses a clothesline & Windham hits another lariat for 3. This match sucked, Windham’s first move was a lariat & his finisher was the same fucking lariat.
Adrian Byrd vs Brian Knobbs May 1, 1999 Knobbs beat up Byrd with weapons, sent him to Pitty City, hit another trash can shot, leg drop & splash off the second rope with the trash can for the 3 count.
Hak (w/Chastity) vs Bull Payne – No Disqualification May 8, 1999 Hak is wearing a Tommy Bahamas shirt & carrying a fire extinguisher. Bell sounds & Chastity immediately sprays Bull with the extinguisher, Hak hits a White Russian Leg Sweep using the kendo stick, grabs a table from under the ring, sets Bull on it & hits a somersault senton for the 3 count. All without taking off that sweet shirt. Hak wins & now presumably is going to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
David Flair vs Frankie Lancaster May 15, 1999 Lil Naitch is the ref as they lock up & Lancaster backs Flair to the corner & Robinson puts a fast 5 count to break and DQ’s Lancaster in 15 seconds. David is confused & follows Robinson to the back as Lancaster stands in the ring like a fool.
Hugh Morrus vs Bobby Blaze May 29, 1999 Morrus no sells a dropkick, so Blaze lights him up with kicks. Jimmy Hart runs distraction, as Morrus hits his step up corner clothesline, putting the boots & elbows to Blaze. He & Jimmy take turns choking Blaze as Morrus gives the lightest stomp in the midsection you’ll see, which I’m sure Blaze appreciated. Morrus made up for it with corner splashes & the No Laughing Matter for the 3. Post match, he hits another moonsault & punches Blaze 10 times for good measure. Hugh Morrus: Cruiserweight Killer, didn’t last much longer.

WCW Saturday Night (June & July 1999) Doubling up because there's some terrible matches in this batch.
Chris Adams vs Van Hammer June 12, 1999 Corner boots & punches by Hammer as Adams gets a back elbow & some forearms in. He lowers his head & Hammer slams him down, they trade forearms & Hammer stiffly hits a clothesline down. Massive beal by Hammer, sending Adams across the ring before he hits a legdrop for 2. They brawl outside & Adams slams Hammer into the steps, goes up top, leaps and just falls to the mat with Hammer stepping aside. This looked insanely awkward as Adams recovers, hits a clothesline off the second for 2. Adams hits the superkick for 1 as Hammer gets the boot on the ropes. Adams argues with the ref, allowing Hammer to pop right up and hit his Cobra Clutch Slam (that Adams didn’t want to get up for) for the 3. Hammer looked pissed post match and I don’t know what the hell happened in this match, it just fell apart quick.
Scott Norton vs Adrian Byrd June 12, 1999 The size differential here is crazy as Norton chops Byrd down after no selling punches. Hard corner splash & short arm clothesline as Norton is taking his sweet time here. Byrd avoids another corner splash & hits a neckbreaker, but Norton pops right up and hits a snap powerslam. He murders poor Byrd with a powerbomb for 3.
Ernest Miller vs Dave Burkhead June 12, 1999 Cat attacks Burkhead from behind, then drops a chop to the chest, while doing the splits at the same time. Kick right to the chest echoes over the piped in boos as Cat sends Burkhead outside, where Sonny Onoo kicks away. Onoo throws more offense than guys like Jim Duggan do their entire match. Back inside, Burkhead takes over just like that, but Cat murders him with a superkick out of nowhere for 3. Post match, Scott Norton comes to the ring & chases Miller away as this was actually a match that happened on a WCW PPV in 1999.
Hak (w/Chastity) vs Hugh Morrus (w/Jimmy Hart) June 12, 1999 Brian Knobbs attacks Hak before the match begins, he chucks the ref out of the ring and he and Morrus beat down Hak until Billy Kidman makes the save. The heels take control as Hak & Kidman get beat down until Morrus & Knobbs miss splashes into the post & railing. Hak just leaves, Kidman rolls in the ring, Knobbs cuts a promo into the camera down the aisle on Hak (who has to be like 5 feet from him at this point) saying how he’ll make Hak eat his own teeth tomorrow at the Great American Bash, I have zero idea where Chastity went. This was a massive WCW clusterfuck, which is why I had to watch.
Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs Villano V June 12, 1999 I wonder how many cruiserweights Duggan beat in his WCW run? Villano sneak attacks, but Duggan no sells. No sells two more dropkicks, then hits Villano with 3 clotheslines sending Villano to regroup. Atomic drop back inside, Villano tries getting some offense off, but Duggan doesn’t sell shit. 10 corner punches, whirly bird bodyslam, 3 point stance & Old Glory knee for the 3 count. Duggan didn’t sell jack shit in this match, which I think Goldberg sold more than Duggan here.
Lodi vs The Gambler June 12, 1999 Lodi, whose sign tells us he got new shorts, hits a back elbow, but Gambler gets a cheap shot & works the arm. Lenny Lane is out to watch this match as Gambler drives a knee to the back & goes back to the arm literally for minutes. He then rakes the ear of Lodi on the top rope, trying to cauliflower it. Camel Clutch applied as Lodi doesn’t quit, so he goes back to the arm bar. 10 punches in the corner, but Lodi hooks his legs, slams Gambler down & puts his feet on the ropes to get the pin! SHIT, Gambler was doing so well, too. I should point out; Lenny Lane did nothing while out there. This was the last match for Gambler on Saturday Night, so the last I'll get to review in this. Leave the memories alone...
Damien vs La Parka June 19, 1999 Within seconds, Parka hits a snap powerslam for 2, but misses a running corner senton & Damien gets a clothesline for 2 as well. Parka turned inside out with another clothesline for another near fall. Parka pops up Damien & drops him face first in the corner, charges & Damien drop toe holds Parka & sends him outside. Tope Suicida connects, he goes up top & Parka crotches him, but Damien shoves him out of the corner, leaps & Parka dropkicks him in mid air for 2. Hard corner clothesline as Parka dances a little bit, goes up top, but Damien with a super arm drag for 2. Damien goes up top & misses a somersault senton as Parka makes the cover for 2. Alabama Slam by Parka, who hits his twisting corkscrew moonsault for the 3 count.
Jerry Flynn vs Hugh Morrus (w/Jimmy Hart) June 19, 1999 I thought Flynn was managed by Hart already at this point, but I guess not. He takes down Morrus with a flying kick & chop to start as he keeps up the offense in the corner as he hits a roundhouse wheel kick. Jimmy Hart is pleading with him outside as Flynn heads back in the ring & gets splashed by Morrus, who hits a second one, goes for a third, but puts the brakes on & tosses Flynn to the floor. He tries taking Jimmy Hart’s head off with a wild kick & jumps back in, throws some kicks & heads back outside where he apparently joins Jimmy Hart as the match has stopped. Welp, that answers my question, he joined them now. A fan grabbed Jimmy Hart by the arm as they walked to the back & Flynn almost went after him until security stepped in. Man, WCW sucked in 1999.
Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs Silver King July 3, 1999 How do you celebrate the 4th of July? By having Duggan beat up a luchador apparently. Duggan hits a clothesline & atomic drop sending King outside, but he jumps back in and kicks out a leg & applies a rest hold immediately. HE’S THROWN 1 MOVE PRIOR TO IT!! Duggan gets up & misses a splash and Silver King smashes the American flag & pole over the top rope. Duggan fires up & hits a spinning bodyslam, 3 point stance clothesline & the Old Glory knee for the 3. This match was fucking atrocious.
Fit Finlay vs Ciclope July 3, 1999 Weird little pairing here as Finlay hits a shoulder tackle & turns him inside out with a lariat. Spin kick to the ribs by Ciclope sends Finlay outside where he hits a Tope Suicida & goes back inside with a missile dropkick & a 2 count. Finlay gets a somersault driver for 2 of his own as he sends Ciclope outside, grabs a chair & Nick Patrick takes it away, so he just clotheslines Ciclope down. Bodyslam back inside as Finlay hits a corner splash, tries again & Ciclope gets the knees up, but he misses a charging tackle, posting his shoulder. Tombstone by Finlay gets the 3 count. The way Scott Hudson says Ciclope is very funny.
Brian Knobbs vs Barry Darsow July 3, 1999 Remember, this is 1999. Knobbs gets a corner splash & 3 elbow drops followed by a leg drop. Back elbow & bodyslam by Darsow as he clocks Knobbs with a clothesline & just mounts Knobbs, punching away. Darsow runs shoulder first into the post as Knobbs sends him into the steps outside. Jimmy Hart punts Repo Man in the ribs as Darsow stalks him, but Knobbs dives on him off the apron. Back inside, Pitty City by Knobbs, who hits a corner splash & Darsow conveniently takes a bump right in position for Knobbs to hit a second rope splash for the 3.
Lord Steven Regal vs Adrian Byrd July 10, 1999 Byrd gets an arm bar; Regal sells like crazy, but then politely puts a foot on the ropes for the break. Back elbow by Byrd sends Regal scurrying to the corner & he’s in shock. He sends Byrd outside where Finlay & Dave Taylor beat him down as Regal takes the ref, then puts the boots to Byrd back inside. Beating continues behind the refs back before Regal fires off palm strikes & uppercuts. Byrd reverses a whip & gets a back drop and dropkick for 2. Regal clips the leg & quickly applies the Regal Stretch for the victory. Regal selling for anyone is awesome.
The Disciple vs Bobby Blaze July 10, 1999 Brutus is just a guy at this point, just earning a paycheck. Blaze gets some shoulders into the midsection, but Brutus gets a big boot & high knee. Jumping stomp into the chest, but Blaze gets an eye rake, lowers his head & Disciple hits a DDT for the quick win. Scott Hudson points out that Disciple didn’t lose his strength just because he got a haircut, which is dumb even for WCW standards.
Lenny & Lodi vs Evan Karagias & Kaz Hayashi July 10, 1999 This is the first tag match for Lenny & Lodi and they’re taking on a future Jung Dragon & 3 Counter. Dropkick, clothesline & flying forearm by Evan on Lodi, as both tag their partners in. Kaz gets a head scissors, tries a victory roll, but Lenny hangs him over the top. Kaz responds with a hot shot of his own as Evan with a springboard cross body for 2. Lodi clocks him from behind & tags in with 3 Amigos for a 2. Double suplex by the heels, who pose, then distract Kaz as Evan gets beaten down in the corner. Evan gets a sunset flip for 2, but Lenny clobbers him with a clothesline, tagging in Lodi, who hits a snap powerslam for 2. Miscommunication by the heels sends Lodi crashing outside & Kaz gets the hot tag, who’s a house of fire. Corner 10 punches by the babyfaces, but the heels hit dueling atomic drops. Lenny sent to the floor as Lodi catches a Kaz cross body, but Evan dropkicks his partner down on top of Lodi for the 3 count. Not a great debut for the future West Hollywood Blondes.
Brian Knobbs (w/Hugh Morrus, Jerry Flynn, Barbarian & Jimmy Hart) vs Dave Burkhead July 10, 1999 Running powerslam early by Knobbs, who hangs up Burkhead in the Tree of Woe, driving the knee to the midsection. We get a plug for future Thunder taping in my hometown of Moline and I should point out that I missed this taping, so I had to miss Sid vs Lenny & Lodi, I obviously made the right call there. Anyways, Knobbs takes Burkhead to Pitty City, gets sent to the floor, only to be sent right back in for no reason, as Knobbs hits a Pump Handle Slam, goes to the second & hits a splash to give Knobbs the 3.
Barry Darsow vs Silver King July 17, 1999 Clash of styles here to say the least, as Darsow charges in the corner, King moonsaults out & hits a wheel kick to the neck and dropkick off the second for 2. King charges & Darsow hits a back elbow & big clothesline. Darsow already starts softening up the arm, posting it repeatedly. King almost catches Darsow with a small package, but Darsow mounts King & beats him down with punches & chokes. King floats over, punts Darsow, bodyslamming him down, goes for a double jump moonsault & misses as Darsow slaps on Barely Legal, the hammerlock submission for the win.
La Parka vs Spyder July 17, 1999 Spyder was the muscle of Eddie Guerrero in the LWO, but now that it’s over, he’s just a random guy, making his “debut” here. He attacks Parka mid dance, but Parka hits a shoulder. Bodyslam by Spyder, who just stands there, missing a corner splash. Parka hits a running clothesline for 2, scoop slam & top rope double axe handle gets another 2 count. Spyder hits a DDT out of the corner for a near fall, then a suplex for another 2. He sends Parka outside, goes to the top & hits a cross body off the top to the floor. Parka is fucked up as Spyder isn’t a small dude & he landed on Parka flush. He goes up top back inside, but Parka kicks his legs out from under him and Spyder damn near kills himself falling. Parka hits the corkscrew moonsault for the 3.
Eddie Guerrero vs Blitzkrieg July 17, 1999 This should be a great match as Blitz gets a quick takedown & Eddie tells the ref he pulled the hair, which he doesn’t buy. Fancy little lucha counter spot as Eddie gets a rope break & he pokes Blitz in the eye, uppercutting him down. Bodyslam & reverse chin lock, but Blitz flips out of a hip toss & nails an enzugiri. Corner dropkick, but Eddie avoids a somersault senton, dropkicking Blitz to the floor. Instead of calling action, Hudson & Tenay are plugging ICP & Dennis Rodman on Nitro. Tilt a whirl back breaker back inside, but Blitz answers with a springboard dropkick, sending Eddie this time outside. Slingshot plancha & Blitz tries a moonsault inside, but Eddie moves. Eddie goes up top, gets cut off & Blitz hits a hurricanrana for 2. Blitz hits a sloppy victory roll for 2, tilt a whirl back breaker & signals for the end as he looks for a Corkscrew Moonsault, but Eddie moves. Fucking brutal brainbuster by Eddie, who goes up top, Frog Splash for the 3. This wasn’t nearly as good as I had hoped, but it still blew away 99.9% of the matches I’ve watched in this recap.
Eddie Guerrero vs Adrian Byrd July 24, 1999 Byrd works an arm bar, but Eddie flips out, picks the ankle & attacks the leg. I have no idea why he followed that up with a full nelson, but Byrd powers out and Eddie is claiming he’s oiled up too much to the ref. Eddie wants a test of strength and we actually get one, that Byrd wins, stomping on the hands. Really shitty right hand thrown by Byrd as Eddie retreats to the corner. Eddie wants another test of strength & finally pokes him in the eye, charges & Byrd hits a snap powerslam & dropkick sending Eddie crawling to Nick Patrick. He cheap shots Byrd, booting him in the corner, nailing his leaping back elbow, brainbuster & Frog Splash for the win. Eddie made the stalling portion of this match fun, but Byrd could’ve looked better, his punches were awful.
Fit Finlay vs Brian Knobbs July 24, 1999 Jimmy Hart stole the Junkyard Cup that Finlay won at Bash at the Beach (a metaphor for WCW as a whole at this point) as Knobbs attacks at the start with a big splash in the corner. He signals for Pitty City, but Regal & Taylor run out and beat down the Nasty Boy as Finlay gets a table under the ring. They all send Knobbs crashing through the table in the corner, standing tall, before Barbarian, Jerry Flynn & Hugh Morrus hit the ring, sending the Blue Bloods and Finlay retreating through the crowd.
Van Hammer vs Mike Enos July 31, 1999 Mike Enos, hanging tough heading into August 99. They both collide with shoulder blocks & both bump, quickly getting to their feet as Hammer wants a test of strength. Enos gets a knee to the gut & snap powerslam for 2. He’s won matches (albeit a few) with that before, but it’s just a move at this point. Backbreaker & Camel Clutch applied for a full minute, before Hammer gets out & catches Enos with a spinebuster & his Cobra Clutch Slam for the 3 count. This was super boring & not good.
Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs Spyder July 31, 1999 I’m so over Duggan no selling every fucking move a luchador has thrown at him. You know what happens. Luchador throws a punch, Duggan no sells, hits his 3 moves of doom for the win. Fuck this.

WCW Saturday Night (August & September 1999)
Juventud Guerrera vs Psychosis August 7, 1999 Psychosis drops a leg on Juvi early as he was going for a drop down spot, but misses a clothesline & Juvi hits a wheelbarrow bulldog. Top rope hurricanrana sends Psychosis to the floor & Juvi poses long enough for his opponent to get back in the ring, try a cheap shot, but fail. Juvi chops him to the ropes, charges & Psychosis destroys him with a lariat. Juvi gets crotched on the ropes & Psychosis nails a springboard spin kick sending Juvi outside. Back inside, they fuck up a float over spot & lose their spot pretty badly before Juvi just hits a Juvi Driver to get them out of this for the 3. To say this fell apart would be a massive understatement. They seriously were lost for a full minute and couldn’t get it together.
Ernest Miller (w/Sonny Onoo) vs Dave Burkhead August 7, 1999 Cat absolutely murders Burkhead with a superkick early, bodyslams him down, then MOONWALKS into an elbow drop, which was fantastic. Cat takes the ref, so Sonny Onoo can kick the shit out of Burkhead outside, throwing him back in, so Cat can hit a terrible looking Feliner for the quick win.
Eddie Guerrero vs Chris Adams August 7, 1999 Eddie fires off early punches in the corner & quickly hits his leaping back elbow, but Adams pulls his trunks, sending him crashing outside into the railing. Adams heeling it up outside, hitting a suplex before throwing forearms back inside, followed by a clothesline. Adams poses & hits a back suplex for 2, charges at Eddie in the ropes, but misses & just gets himself tangled up. Snap bodyslam, but Eddie misses his slingshot senton, Adams pops up, SUPERKICK! Instead of covering Eddie, he spits on him & goes up top missing a terrible looking splash as Eddie quickly goes up & hits a Frog Splash for the win. I liked this match a lot, but the ending wasn’t that good.
Sid vs La Parka August 7, 1999 Parka throws a clothesline, dropkick & leaps off the top, right into the clutches of Sid, who choke slams him & hits the powerbomb for the 3. Sid didn’t even take his jacket off.
Barbarian (w/Jimmy Hart) vs Disciple August 14, 1999 Brutus still chugging along, wearing a leather vest for this whole match. Barb gets some early chops, lowers his head & Brutus kicks him, sending him outside to Jimmy. Back inside, Barb just randomly choke slams Brutus, stomping on the midsection & raking the face with a boot. Hard corner back elbows before Brutus is sent outside, Hart takes the ref & Barb smacks Brutus with a chair. Back inside, Brutus just ducks a clothesline, hits a high knee & flying clothesline off the second for a 2 count. He grabs Jimmy Hart & Barb goes for the boot, collides with Jimmy, Brutus gets the roll up for the 3. This was fucking brutal.
Harlem Heat vs Bobby Eaton & Barry Darsow August 21, 1999 Darsow chokes away at Stevie, throws a boot & gets caught as Stevie atomic drops him down, then gives one to Eaton as well. Double back elbow by Harlem Heat, but Darsow cheap shots Booker, allowing Eaton to take control with 1 back elbow, before Booker hits a scissors kick & spinaroonie for 2. Cheap shot by Eaton, who tags in Darsow, nailing Book with a clothesline & slamming him into Eaton’s boot in the corner. Tag to Beautiful Bobby, who literally just rakes the eyes & tags in Darsow, who hits a bodyslam & tags back in Eaton. They try for a Rocket Launcher & Booker hits a side kick in mid air, tagging Stevie for the hot tag. He hits a spinebuster on Darsow, tags Booker, who nails a missile dropkick for the 3. For some reason, Eaton tries to cheap shot both of them with the tag title belt post match, but does so poorly & he and Darsow both get laid out with belt shots.
Mona vs Dee Dee Venturi August 21, 1999 Mona flips out & hits a tilt a whirl head scissors, but celebrates too much & gets leveled with a clothesline. She chokes Mona in the corner, then bulldogs her down as she chokes away, breaking at 4. Standard hip toss, but Mona gets a roll up for a 2 count as Venturi goes back on the offense. She looks for a piledriver, but Mona gets a quick roll up for another 2. Venturi wipes her out & keeps choking her, but Mona battles back with a snap suplex for yet another close near fall. Venturi tries for a hip toss, but Mona spins through & gets a victory roll for the 3.
Meng vs Barry Horowitz August 28, 1999 This should be a 30 second squash, but Meng takes his time destroying Horowitz, who is still around at this point. Barry gets a baseball slide, dropkick & uppercut, but Meng no sells & chops him down. Thrust chop & stomp to the belly welly as Barry tries headbutting Meng in the gut & it has zero effect. Knee lift by Barry, as Meng no sells, hitting a corner clothesline. Barry floats over, hits a leaping back elbow, but Meng literally just bounces off the ropes & superkicks Barry down, applying the Tongan Death Grip for the win.
Brian Knobbs vs Kash (4x4) September 4, 1999 Kash is apparently a 400 pound member of the No Limit Soldiers, who bearhugged Jimmy Hart the previous week, thus why we’re getting this one. Knobbs attacks with back elbows & an eye rake, hitting a corner splash, but Kash no sells. Clubbing blows & a bodyslam by the big man, who slaps on a bear hug. Jerry Flynn & Hugh Morrus hit the ring to cause the DQ as Swole & BA (Brad Armstrong) make the save. When you think Master P and the No Limit Soldiers, you think Brad Armstrong.
West Texas Rednecks vs Texas Outlaws September 4, 1999 Barry & Kendall Windham are the current Tag Team Champions & representing the Rednecks and the Outlaws are just Mean Mike & Tough Tom of Disorderly Conduct under masks, so if you can’t tell them apart before, good fucking luck doing it now. Kendall suckers one into a chase ringside, where Barry levels him with a clothesline. Chops to the corner & tag to brother Barry, who bodyslams him down & hits a backdrop and forearms. Snap suplex float over gets a 2 as he tags Kendall who drops a knee & gets 2 of his own. Back suplex connects as Kendall charges at the other Outlaw & misses as Barry jumps in, but restrained, so the Outlaws switch and the other nearly catches Kendall with a small package for 2. He hits back elbows on the Rednecks & the match breaks down before Barry drops a Tag Title in the ring, takes the ref & Kendall smacks an Outlaw with it for the 3 count. Harlem Heat hit the ring post match & chase the Rednecks off.
Jim Duggan vs La Parka September 11, 1999 We kill time for 4 minutes before we actually start as Duggan tries for a backdrop, but Parka kicks in him slow motion & Duggan sells. They have a brief slugfest before Parka snap mares Duggan down & applies a rest hold. A REST HOLD! We stalled for 4 minutes before the start of this thing! High knee by Parka, who struts to the top rope, falls off & knocks Duggan down, then climbs the wrong side & realizes Duggan is too far, so he just dives and eats shit. Duggan hits 10 punches in the corner, bodyslam, 3 point stance and the OLD GLORY KNEE DROP for the 3 count. My goodness.
El Dandy vs Lenny Lane – Cruiserweight Title September 18, 1999 Dandy tries a hip toss, but Lenny clotheslines out & pulls Dandy up at 1. He opts to do chest rakes, Dandy tries to answer with a slingshot senton, rolls through & Lenny paps him with a right. Dandy backs up in the corner & tells Lenny to stop, confusing the champ as Dandy says “look up” and Lenny does, eating a right hand. Lenny hits a wheelbarrow slam & tells the fans to “talk to the hand” as this is dated even for 99. He gets a bodyslam, then slowly crawls on top of Dandy for 2. Dandy hits a spinebuster for 2, shoulder tackle for 2, but Lenny jawbreakers Dandy down. Lenny & Lodi start playing paddy cakes on the apron, Dandy sends them colliding into each other, almost gets a roll up, but gets 2. Lenny just hits the Memory Lane (Full Nelson face buster) for the 3. This fucking sucked (yes I’ve said that before & I’m sure I’ll say it again).
Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs Bobby Eaton September 18, 1999 Mean Gene talks about big sweeping changes in WCW, you won’t hear about in dirt sheets or the internet, ONLY on the Hotline. So sensitive, he can’t talk about it on the air. PLUS, what you won’t read or see in Playboy Magazine, which, what the hell do you plan on showing on the Hotline, Gene? Yikes. Anyways, after multiple minutes of stalling, Duggan hits a few clotheslines & Eaton regroups, so more stalling. Rolls back in, eats a right hand & bails again, milk that TV time, Bobbo! Finally Eaton gets a few right hands and Duggan takes the lightest bump ever as Hacksaw fights back with 10 corner punches, hits his spinning bodyslam, the 3 point clothesline & Old Glory knee for the terrible win. I’m more interested in what Gene was talking about with Playboy Magazine.
Lord Steven Regal vs Erik Watts September 25, 1999 Yep, Watts is still puttering around, dressed like a giant douchebag. He mocks Regal & drops a leg on the arm, applying a terrible arm bar, which Regal quickly escapes, picking the ankle. Watts escapes, slides outside & punches David Taylor, goes back inside with a head scissors. He slaps on a headlock, but Regal sends him outside, so Taylor can get his revenge, beating him down with the UK flag. Uppercut, snapmare, knee drop as Regal applies a submission, but Watts gets up, hits a boot & clothesline. Bodyslam & dropkick as Watts hits corner rights, but misses a splash. He tries for a roll up & Taylor smacks him with the flag pole as Regal applies the Regal Stretch. Jim Duggan walked to the ring & laid both Blue Bloods out to cause the DQ. Scott Hudson said Duggan ran so quick that he didn’t know who he was. Fuck you Scott Hudson. Post match, Duggan says if Watts watching is back, he’ll watch his. Duggan & Watts are a thing in 1999?

WCW Saturday Night (October, November, December 1999)
Buff Bagwell vs Lash LeRoux October 2, 1999 Lash gets a takedown & mocks Bagwell’s strut & pose, so Buff pops him with a right hand, back drop & clotheslines. Lash retreats so Buff can pose properly & Lash hits him this time. He tries to float over in the corner, gets caught & dropped on his face, so he regroups. Lash is heel here & it’s weird. Top rope cross body by the Ragin Cajun for 2, as he does the splits into a lariat. He backdrops Buff over the top, but Bagwell lands on the apron, goes to the second rope & hits the Blockbuster for the 3. Lash backdropped Buff, then danced for an obscenely long time, doing spins, having to act like he didn’t see Bagwell just standing on the ropes waiting. It was pretty bad.
Dean Malenko vs Blitzkreig October 2, 1999 This should be a fun match. After some fast counters, Malenko hits a tilt a whirl back breaker for 2, then puts the boots to Blitz in the corner. Hard lariat in the corner gets another near fall as the Iceman works an arm bar. He grinds Blitz down for a near fall, then hits a beautiful snap suplex for another 2, until Blitz sends Malenko outside, where he hits an Asaii Moonsault. Back inside, Blitz gets 2, then sets Dean in the corner, but Malenko answers with a super gut buster for 2. Blitz with a foot on the rope, Malenko tries another tilt a whirl, but Blitz rolls him up for 2. Malenko pops up, tries for a brainbuster, Blitz reverses, tries a wheelbarrow, but Malenko falls back, slamming him down. That set the stage for the Texas Cloverleaf & Malenko wins it.
Mona vs Lexi Fyfe October 9, 1999 So Lexi is the previously aforementioned Dee Dee Venturi, I think, maybe not, they’re dressed similar and that’s all I need. Mona is still Mona, pre-Molly Holly, so there’s that. Lexi works the arm & uses the hair for a takedown, but Mona reverses & gets a school girl for 2. Knee to the throat in the corner by Lexi, who then straight up slaps Mona in the belly, which made me chuckle. Back elbow, bodyslam & legdrop as Lexi tries for a cross arm Undertaker pin, but gets 2. Firewoman’s Carry Slam as she hits a Vader Bomb out of the corner for 2. Mona gets a sunset flip for a 2 of her own, but Lexi hits a side suplex for a nearfall. She tries for another, but Mona hits a head scissors & clothesline before hitting a snap suplex & snap elbow. Springboard handspring elbow, bulldog & a weirdly awesome pretzel pin deal for the victory. Again, Molly Holly is awesome & will never not be awesome.
Sid vs Dave Burkhead United States Title October 9, 1999 Bell sounds, Burkhead attacks, Sid chokeslams him & hits a powerbomb for the win. Best Sid match ever.
Bobby Eaton vs Adrian Byrd October 9, 1999 Eaton just walks to the ring like a dude, zero expression or emotion; he’s just going to work. They trade right hands as both sort of complain to Nick Patrick about getting potatoed as we get a test of strength that Eaton wins, but Byrd quickly powers up & hits a dropkick. Eaton again steps back & the ref separates them for reasons I have no idea. Eaton gets sent to the corner, Byrd lowers his head & Eaton hits a swinging neckbreaker for the win. I don’t know what happened here, it’s like Eaton actually potatoed Byrd, then Byrd hit one in retaliation, so things got awkward from there.
Disco Inferno vs Disciple October 16, 1999 Disco is the Cruiserweight Champion apparently & I had zero recollection of that. Disciple comes out dressed as Brutus Beefcake (complete with strut) & takes Disco down with an arm bar to start, but Disco chokes him down repeatedly & applies a chin lock. Disciple gets a sunset flip for 2 & Disco chokes him again, bodyslamming him down & struts into a fist drop. Another rest hold before Disco hits a side Russian leg sweep, missing a follow up forearm off the second. Disciple hits the high knee, goes to the second & hits a cross body for 2. Shitty DDT connects for a 1 with a Disco foot on the ropes. Disco floats over & hits the Chart Buster stunner for the win.
Luther Biggs (w/Coach Buzz Stern) vs Dave Burkhead October 16, 1999 Buzz Stern is Glacier in a coaching role & heel. His pupil is out of shape Luther Biggs, who is a bumbling idiot. He had a brief stint as Disgraceland in TNA with the Flying Elvises. I have no idea if I’ve said that before as my brain is fried up to this point in these WCW reviews. Burkhead got murdered last week against Sid, let’s see if he has better luck here. Biggs tries a hip toss, but Burkhead counters with multiple clotheslines & Biggs regroups with Stern. The Coach trips up Burkhead, allowing Biggs to put the boots to him. Bionic Elbow by Biggs, who hits an elbow drop for 2. Snap suplex for another 2 as he misses an elbow & corner splash as Burkhead lowers his head & gets met with a terrible looking clothesline. Swinging neckbreaker connects & Biggs get the 3 count.
Juventud Guerrera vs Dave Burkhead October 23, 1999 Burkhead poked Juvi in the eyes & posed in the corner as this week he’s playing heel. Juvi uses his speed & chops away, then hits 10 punches in the corner & thrusts into Burkhead’s face (not kidding). Cross body off the second for 2 as Burkhead slides outside & the chase is on, as he suckers Juvi into the ring with boots. Vertical suplex for 2 & rest hold as he eats a Juvi boot & back elbow. The Juice goes up & hits a missile dropkick, then Juvi Driver for the 3 count.
Meng vs Texas Outlaws October 30, 1999 Outlaws walk out to a bootleg Walk the Line by Johnny Cash. Meng clotheslines them both down & chucks one outside, headbutting the other. Corner chops & goes a clubberin as Meng murders him with a superkick, does a little karate & applies the Tongan Death Grip for the win.
8 Man Battle Royal Chavo Guerrero, Steven Regal, Chris Adams, David Taylor, El Dandy, Jerry Flynn, Scotty Riggs, Prince Iaukea November 4, 1999 This is from Thunder, but I wanted to add this in here since it’s a lot of the regulars on this show. They keep saying whoever wins this will receive a “golden opportunity” and the rest will pretty much be fired. Dandy applied a wrist lock in a battle royal, so not the wisest of holds. The Blue Bloods hit a double suplex on Iaukea and Dandy is dumped by Flynn & Riggs, who attack each other. Most of these guys were either repackaged or just left the company anyways, so in a way, there’s some realism to this as whoever wins, pretty much kept their gimmick. Adams went to the second rope for punches on Chavo, who quickly dumped him out as Regal then took over. Riggs is dumped out by Flynn & a super kick and that’s the last we see of Riggs in WCW, I think as Iaukea dumps Flynn. Taylor & Regal dump Iaukea, who was 1 month away from becoming The Prince as the Blue Bloods & Chavo remain. Regal holds him while Taylor dives & goes flying over the top as Regal tries a dropkick & Chavo catches him, slingshotting Regal out of the ring & into the WWF where he’d end up soon. This was a bottom of the barrel battle royal & actually had some talented guys involved, which shows you how WCW was back in the Russo days.
Horace Hogan vs La Parka November 6, 1999 With the NWO finally being put out of its misery a few months prior, Horace is back to just wearing what he wore in the Flock, which is leather vest & jeans. Parka dances & does the Hulkster pose, leading to Horace attacking him from behind. Parka reverses a whip, but misses a senton in the corner, eating a drop toe hold into the corner. He gets a boot up, charges & Horace pops him with a lariat for 2. Step up enzugiri sends Horace to the floor as Parka nails a Tope Suicida. Parka goes up top & gets crotched as Horace clotheslines him outside, sends him into the steps & heads back inside. He goes to grab the chair, but the ref tries stopping him, allowing Parka to hit a second rope dropkick, sending the chair into Horace for the 1…2…3! Holy shit a Cruiserweight beat a heavyweight on this show!
La Parka vs Lash LeRoux November 13, 1999 Punts by Parka as he dances a bit, hitting corner punches & strutting out. Big boot in the corner by Lash, who hits a clothesline, Parka floats over & lands on the apron, hitting a missile dropkick sending Lash outside & Parka hits a Tope Suicida on Lash, who was barely able to turn around to catch him. Back inside, Parka gets crotched, Lash does a little flashy combo & gets a 2 count. Northern Lights suplex gets another 2, but misses the follow up elbow. Parka hits his spinning leg kick off the top, but dances, before going up top again. He tries his corkscrew moonsault, but misses, allowing Lash to hit the Whiplash for the 3 count. La Parka’s win streak ended at 1.
Disco Inferno vs Erik Watts November 13, 1999 Disco is still Cruiserweight Champion and Watts is still around. He hits a hip toss on Disco & crotch chops at him. Disco does the same thing & mocks Watts, missing a corner elbow, but throws punches. Watts hits a bulldog out of the corner (I guess?) for 2, then does what I can only describe as FINGER GUN ELBOW, but misses. Man, Erik Watts is so cool. He hits a sidewalk slam for 2 & does a shitty corner boot AND A BUCKLE BOMB!! Eat your heart out Michael Elgin, Brian Cage, Seth Rollins! Disco gets up an elbow & spinning neckbreaker before dropping an elbow off the second rope for 2. He hits the Chart Buster on Watts for the 3 count. Erik Watts is the only guy who makes Disco Inferno look like the coolest guy in the room.
Berlyn vs Johnny Attitude November 20, 1999 Uppercuts by the former Das Wunderkind as he hits a snap suplex for 2. Attitude gets a hip toss & some clotheslines as Berlyn begs for a timeout. He misses a dropkick & Berlyn drops a few elbows for another 2. The Wall gets to the apron to run distraction as Berlyn sends Attitude outside, proving the distraction pointless. Berlyn just beats him up for a while out there, before going back in, hits a spin kick & Hangman’s Neckbreaker for 3.
Eddie Guerrero vs Barry Horowitz November 20, 1999 Legit forgot Eddie was part of the Filthy Animals at this point as he’s out with Kidman & Konnan. Snapmare by Eddie & a drop toe hold follow as he slams Barry down & nails his slingshot senton. Horowitz fights back with uppercuts & an underhook suplex before patting himself on the back. Vertical suplex gets a 2, then jawbreaker sends Eddie to the corner as Horowitz taunts the Animals before sinking in a rolling abdominal stretch for 2. Eddie gets a boot in the corner, floats over a back suplex & hits one of his own, goes up top & nails the Frog Splash for the 3 count. Impressive win by Latino Heat.
Curt Hennig vs Chris Adams November 20, 1999 They have an early scrap before Hennig grabs an arm bar & Adams flips out. Roll up gets Hennig 2, but Adams shoots him to the floor & drops a clothesline to the back of the neck & slams Hennig into the railing. They trade chops & brawl outside & Adams gets swept by Hennig, who puts the boots to the Gentleman. Hard chops & his signature snap mare get a 2, but Adams hits a SUPERKICK out of nowhere for a 2 count. Hennig gets a rope break as Adams lowers his head for a back drop, but Hennig puts on the brakes, Hennig Plex for the 3 count. Wish this went longer, but they were off the air within 2 seconds of the pin.
Jeff Jarrett vs Adrian Byrd November 27, 1999 He’s been back with WCW for like a month and already Jarrett is pulling Saturday Night duty. He attacks before the bell & throws Byrd to the floor where he slams him on the railings before headed back inside. Jarrett avoids an enzugiri & just puts the boots to Byrd, who tries for a cross body, but misses badly. Creative Control out from the back (Ron & Don Harris) who beat up Byrd outside as Jeff takes the ref. They then walk to the back as Byrd gets a sunset flip, that Jarrett punches out of. Byrd gets in some punches, but as he baseball slides through Jarrett’s legs, he gets caught with The Stroke for the win. The Harris Brothers interference did zero.
Creative Control vs Texas Outlaws November 27, 1999 Creative Control are Tag Team Champions at this point and I had zero idea they ever held the titles. One of the Harris’ hit a gut wrench suplex & some clotheslines as we can’t tell either of these dudes apart from their teammates. The other Harris gets taken down briefly, but he sends an Outlaw to the floor to get beat up by his brother, while the other Outlaw argues with the ref. Back inside, a Harris drops an elbow, but eats right hands by an Outlaw, only to plant him with a spinning side suplex for the 3. This was a really bad tag match.
The Wall vs Dave Burkhead December 4, 1999 Massive big boot on a charging Burkhead by Wall, who chokes his opponent in the ropes before hitting a back suplex. Corner shots, but Burkhead ducks a shot, turns around, right into a Choke Slam for the 3 count. The crowd noise is boos the entire match & it’s so overdone with the dubbing.
Evan Karagias (w/Madusa) vs La Parka December 4, 1999 Evan spends too much time making out with Madusa, it winds up with him falling outside & getting wiped out by a plancha by Parka. He goes up top, but Evan crotches him & throws punches. Flying forearm & snap powerslam gets Evan 2 as he & Parka take turns missing like 8 moves before Evan hits a top rope hurricanrana & arm drag to the floor. Parka grabs a chair & swats Evan in mid air with it to cause the DQ. He goes to smack him again with it, but Madusa kicks Parka in the back & he sells it like he just got shot and flies out of the ring.
Sid vs Al Greene December 18, 1999 Big Boot, Choke Slam, Powerbomb, 3 count. I should point out, Sid raised the roof after the choke slam.
1 Year Left!

WCW Saturday Night (January & February 2000) His Lordships Final Bow
Curt Hennig vs Fidel Sierra January 8, 2000 We kick off the new millennium in WCW Saturday Night with Perfect getting a reverse waistlock & Sierra popping him with a back elbow. Headlock by Hennig, he lets go to do a cartwheel & Sierra hits a clothesline. Hard right hands by the former Barrio Brother, but Hennig fights back with chops & a shoulder block. Sierra gets punched in the belly & Hennig hits a knee lift, but Sierra reverses a whip, lowers his head & Hennig gets the Hennig Plex for the 3 count. Very boring & slow match.
Dean Malenko & Perry Saturn (w/Shane Douglas) vs The Villanos January 8, 2000 The last few appearances of Saturn & Dean before they left for greener pastures as a Villano drops both men with rights & sends Saturn over the top before Malenko clobbers him from behind. Snap mare & tag to Saturn, who slingshot splashes onto Villano for 2. Saturn puts the boots to Villano in the corner, tripping over him & the referee, falling on his ass in the process as he tags Malenko, who nails a vertical suplex for 2. Saturn hits an Exploder suplex, sets Villano IV up in the corner, but gets dropped & IV nails a cross body. Here comes Villano V finally & he hits a corner clothesline. Villanos hit corner 10 punches as Shane Douglas pops up on the apron, hits the Villano with a chain as Malenko applies the Cloverleaf for the win.
Booker T (w/Midnight) vs Chris Williams January 8, 2000 Williams is the future Wildcat Chris Harris (or Braden Walker if you’re a WWECW purist). Booker gets tired of Williams stalling as Mike Tenay pitches a Slapjack on a Pole Match (and he can promptly F Off). Booker floats over in the corner & hits a Book End as Williams rolls outside to regroup, but Midnight chucks him inside. Eye poke & standing dropkick by Williams for 2 as he applies a chin lock. Booker fights out, hits an Axe Kick, spinaroonie & Alabama Slam spinebuster gets the 3 count for Book.
Disco Inferno (w/Marmalukes) vs Scott Armstrong January 8, 2000 Yes, I spelled that right, the caption read MARMALUKES. Vito, Johnny & Tony Marinara accompany Disco to the ring as this was when he owed the mafia money. This was an incredibly standard match that saw Armstrong take most of it, would get attacked by the Mamalukes outside, make his comeback, but it wouldn’t be enough. Tony took the ref as Disco was handed some brass knucks & he popped Armstrong to steal the win.
3 Count vs PG-13 & Chavo Guerrero January 15, 2000 3 Count dances pre-match and then I find out PG-13 was in WCW in 2000? And randomly teaming with Chavo? Hudson & Tenay are talking about how kids shouldn’t do backyard wrestling. Chavo with a snap powerslam on Helms, tagging in Wolfie D, who plants Sugar Shane with a powerbomb. Clothesline to the floor as Wolfie chases out after & gets dropkicked into the guardrail by Helms, who does a top rope somersault plancha! Back inside, Shannon Moore gets planted with a JC Ice bulldog, but Moore clips a leg, monkey flip, floats over, tries it again & gets dumped outside. Spinning cross body off the top by Evan for the 3, despite not being the legal man. This match blew.
Madusa (w/Spice) vs “a fan” January 15, 2000 Madusa is the Cruiserweight Champion at this point and she chose a Power Plant dude to wrestle. She slaps him in the face & chops away before the dude shoves her down, poses & Madusa hits a German Suplex for the 3. Literally no one cared. I should point out that Madusa’s breasts were larger than Nitro Girl Spice’s entire body. I'm not kidding.
Norman Smiley vs Bobby Eaton January 15, 2000 They have boos piped in so loudly for Eaton, you’d think Vince McMahon was coming to the ring. This is a Hardcore Match and seeing Eaton swing a broom, with his blonde mullet flowing in the air, is quite the visual. It’s also sad that the crowd is getting less & less as we go deeper into this recap. Eaton hit a bunch of weapon shots until Smiley nails a drop toe hold onto a trash can, then hits a bodyslam for the 3 count. Not kidding, Hardcore match ended in a bodyslam. Post match, Norman got Charles Robinson to dance TO END THE SHOW!! THIS WAS THE MAIN EVENT OF THE EPISODE!!
Meng vs Fidel Sierra January 22, 2000 Chops by Sierra, who sends Meng head first into the corner & you know what Meng did, no sell. He punches Sierra so hard in the gut that Sierra does a leaping bump onto his belly. Thrust chop & boots by Meng as commentary is questioning if Tank Abbot could knock out Meng, who bites Sierra’s face. Hard corner chops & a DDT by Meng, something I haven’t seen much from Meng, who slaps on the Tongan Death Grip for the win.
Al Greene vs Frankie Lancaster January 22, 2000 Lancaster works an arm bar & Greene pops him with a right hand, corner splash, another one, misses a third, Lancaster hits a back suplex, bodyslam, goes up top & hits a shitty cross body for 2. He charges, Greene gets a boot & butterfly suplex for 3. That’s it. Mike Tenay called it a very competitive match, which, fuck off, Mike.
The Demon vs Bobby Eaton January 29, 2000 Demon tries firing off a right hand & Eaton’s not playing that shit, he hits one of his own, working an arm bar, but Demon just shrugs him off. Tony keeps putting over KISS and how many shows he’s seen. What I wouldn’t give to see Lois at a KISS concert. Tony talks about how WCW brass are trying to sign Demon to a match at Superbrawl, which will be his biggest match to date. I should point out Demon wasn’t even on the card. Anyways, Demon posts Eaton outside & Eaton fights back with right hands, slamming Demon into the camera stand. Inside now, Eaton drops Demon with a right, but Demon answers with a short arm clothesline & shitty Cobra Clutch Slam that Bobby Eaton had no desire to get up for to get the 3.
Lord Steven Regal vs Rob Williams January 29, 2000 Regal works the arm early & Williams gets a few counters, including a dropkick, but doesn’t capitalize. He backs Regal into the corner & we try to get a clean break from Nick Patrick, as Regal gets an eye poke and uppercuts. Tony says that Regal has been great on Saturday Night & Worldwide, but wants to be on Nitro, which, considering who was booking it, I think he’s happy here. Regal destroys Williams with uppercuts & forearms to the back as he’s simply demolishing Williams. He’s finally had enough, hitting ripcord neckbreaker for the 3 count.
Jim Duggan vs Dave Burkhead February 5, 2000 Burkhead stalls a full minute AGAINST HACKSAW, before getting hit with an awkward atomic drop into the ropes. Burkhead gets 3 punches, Duggan sells none of them & does the 10 corner punches. Whirly bodyslam, 3 point tackle, Old Glory knee, 3 count. New Millennium. Same Duggan.
Sid vs Al Greene February 12, 2000 Big boot, choke slam, powerbomb, 3 count.
Bam Bam Bigelow vs Adrian Byrd – WCW Hardcore Title February 19, 2000 Corner splash by Bammer, who no sells a few clotheslines from Byrd, but finally sells a dropkick & DDT. There’s a trash can literally right next to Byrd and he opts to go to the floor to get one, only to drop it getting into the ring. Bigelow hits 1 shot with a sign & Greetings From Asbury Park for the 3. 1 weapon shot and his finisher, this was awful, even for garbage Hardcore matches.
Tank Abbott vs Villano IV February 26, 2000 Bell rings, Tank backs Villano into the corner, judo flips him & slams him down, then punches him out cold with a right. He walks back to the back & the ref calls it.
Barbarian vs Villano V February 26, 2000 Can the other Villano last longer than his brother? Barb no sells headbutts & hits a back suplex, but drops Villano right in between his legs awkwardly for 2. Villano hits a dropkick & another, then a face buster drops Barb for 2. Villano with a double axe off the second rope, goes to do it again, gets caught & overhead belly to belly suplexed. Barb with the Boot of Fear for the 3 count.
The Demon vs Power Company 1 February 26, 2000 I can’t believe we get a Power Company match in WCW in 2000. After all these years, no names for them still. Arm drag & slam by Demon, who misses a corner splash & PC 1 chokes him in the corner. PC 2 chokes Demon with some tape with the ref distracted. The Demon dropkicks PC 1 into PC 2, hits the Full Nelson Slam (The Destroyer) for the 3. I thought this was a handicap match, but it was just one of the Power Company.
Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs Lord Steven Regal - Title vs Career February 26, 2000 Television Title, which Duggan, the janitor, found in the trash the previous week, against Regal’s career. Duggan pops Regal with a few lariats, to no reaction, as Regal bails outside. Duggan out after him as he tosses Regal back inside, but gets punted coming back inside. Duggan sloppily blocks right hands, then misses a corner splash as Regal works the arm bar & leaping forearm. Duggan mounts his comeback & actually sells his arm that Regal worked on as he was throwing punches. Regal misses a somersault senton as Duggan hits 10 corner punches with the good arm & bodyslams Regal before hitting a clothesline & Old Glory knee drop for the 3 count. We see Fidel Sierra at the entrance ramp watching on, who issued a challenge to the winner. Regal’s career in WCW is officially over & thankfully he’s gone to WWF in a few months. Regal lost to a man dressed as a janitor in a few minutes for his final WCW match. Let that sink in.

Leave the Memories Alone. With a tear, in my eye, this...is the final installment of WCW matches during these Quarantine Files. Every show that wasn't Nitro or Thunder was covered in much more detail than I originally had planned. I'm so happy to be able to watch something else. That will be posted soon, my next deep dive.
WCW Saturday Night 2000 Mona, Hale…and a Dog Hugh Morrus vs Matt Anderson March 4, 2000 This is apparently Morrus’ return (he left?). Anderson gets an arm drag & cross body for 2 as this Anderson is built like my cousin, which isn’t a compliment, my cousin is scrawny as shit. Morrus damn near kills him with a press slam & Anderson lands almost flush on his neck. You can hear Morrus ask if he’s ok, before dropping 2 elbows & legdrop, tries for a top rope elbow & misses. Anderson throws some crappy punches & a spinning leg kick. He goes up top with a missile dropkick for a 2 count. Hudson says he has big shoes to fill with a last name of Anderson. WHO THE FUCK IS HE TALKING ABOUT? Morrus hits the No Laughing Matter for the 3 count. Seriously, who was Hudson talking about, famous wrestling Anderson?
The Wall vs Rick Fuller March 4, 2000 Wall attacks Fuller before he even gets in the ring, sending him into the railing twice, then into the steps. Into the ring, Fuller gets one kick off before Wall hits a Choke Slam for the 3. Poor Rick Fuller.
Hale (w/Jimmy Hart) vs Chad Hart March 4, 2000 Huge press slam on the pink & black jobber as Hale chops the shit out of him in the corner. Scott Hudson is selling the hell out of this offense as Hale hits a piledriver for 3. Hudson says it reminds him of Paul Orndorff, which, whatever. Jimmy Hart says this is his next new find, since everyone else the last few years in WCW was achieving so much? Post match, they stretcher out Chad Hart.
The Harris Brothers vs Disorderly Conduct March 11, 2000 NWO Harris Brothers are something I forgot was a thing. They attack Mike & Tom at the bell as one Harris hits Mike with a big boot, while Tom gets murdered outside by the other Harris. This was literally all that happened in the match, until both Harris brothers ended up in the ring, hitting the H-Bomb on Tough Tom, then one for Mean Mike for the 3 count.
Mona vs Little Jeanie March 11, 2000 When Jeanie takes her jacket off to reveal her gear, Scott Hudson audibly says “Mmmm…”. Snap mare & arm drag by Mona, who dropkicks Jeanie down, chopping away in the ropes. Jeanie ducks a clothesline into a German Suplex, choking away at Mona. Multiple elbow drops, but she misses a third, still able to hit a suplex though. Jeanie goes up top, missing a big splash as Mona boots her in the corner, does her springboard back elbow & bulldog, then applies an Indian Death Lock into a roll up for 3.
Hale (w/Jimmy Hart) vs Mike Jones March 18, 2000 So yes, Mike Jones is Virgil, Vincent, Curly Bill, you name it. He has a strap in his hand, smacks Hale with it, who clocks Virg with a clothesline & piledriver for the 3 count. Man, I thought Virgil had him.
Mona vs Dee Dee Venturi March 18, 2000 Drop toe hold by Mona, who nearly gets a cradle for only 2. Venturi hits a snap suplex as Larry makes a Jesse Ventura comparison, calling her a “nasty little thing” while choking Mona in the corner. Diving bulldog by Dee Dee, but Mona floats over & hits a tilt a whirl head scissors. Just then Little Jeanie hits the ring & causes the DQ. Both ladies beat up Mona as they head up the ramp. Mona grabs the mic and says they’re both afraid, she has a surprise for both of them, leading to next week.
Mona & Fantasy vs Little Jeanie & Dee Dee Venturi March 25, 2000 Zero idea who Fantasy is, but the heels attack, only for the faces to hit dueling snap suplexes sending the heels to regroup. Dee Dee literally grabs her partner by the hair & chucks her into the ring. She promptly gets an arm bar & then I have no fucking clue what happens (see gif). Jeanie gets a snap suplex for 2, then does a few hair mares & Dee Dee chokes away with the ref distracted by Mona. Nonchalant cover for 1, so Jeanie tags her with a clothesline & applies a Figure Four, using the ropes. Fantasy reverses the pressure, gets free & goes to her corner, but Mona isn’t supposed to get the hot tag yet, so she awkwardly waits for Jeanie to attack her. Finally Fantasy gets the hot tag 5 minutes into this fucking match and Mona cleans house (Larry points out that pun), gets an O’Connor Roll for the 3 on Jeanie as Dee Dee has to act like a ghost stopped her from making the save as Fantasy missed holding her back. My goodness, Larry Zbyszko says somewhere there are 4 empty kitchens. Mona was the best wrestler by far & she was in this for 20 seconds. Fantasy was one of the worst female wrestlers I’ve ever seen.
Hale (w/Jimmy Hart) vs Chuck Coates March 25, 2000 Scott Hudson talks about watching Miss Hancock videos forever and Larry asks if he has a fetish, Hudson says he had pasta with marinara (WTF??). Hale clocks Coates with a clothesline in the corner & Hudson calls it a Hale Storm. He hits a vertical suplex into the corner, sloppy, but impressive. Piledriver does it & Hale wins again.
Tank Abbott vs Dave Burkhead March 25, 2000 Punch to the gut, clubbing blow, Tank tosses Burkhead down & chucks him in the corner with back elbows. Judo throw, but Dave rakes the eyes, punches away, but the murder right hand & Tank gets the walk off KO.
Hale vs Cassidy Riley April 1, 2000 The future Natural in TNA is bean pole thin here. Hale gives Riley a free shot, he takes it, but Hale launches him in the corner with a splash & high press slam. Piledriver gets the 3 count and Hale is impressive, but was never used beyond Saturday Night.
Mona vs Little Jeanie April 1, 2000 Mona luckily doesn’t have to team with a terrible partner this week as she gets a headlock & shoulder early, but Jeanie meets her with a monkey flip. Snap suplex gets Jeanie 2, but she argues with the ref, giving Mona a roll up for 2. Jeanie takes her down & does a step over toe hold before applying a Boston Crab. Mona powers out & they trade pin attempts before Jeanie flat out punts Mona in the hamstring. Hair mare & choke in the ropes leads to a sleeper hold by Jeanie as Mona runs & sends Jeanie tumbling outside. She slingshots Jeanie back in & hits the Northern Lights Suplex for 2. To the corner, Mona gets in some kicks & Jeanie answers with shoulders to the midsection, but Mona reverses a whip, gets a springboard back handspring & running bulldog, then an Indian Death Lock roll up for 3! Post match, like 1 second after the finish, ASYA runs out and attacks Mona. We haven’t seen Asya since The Revolution was a thing at the end of 1999. She gets a head scissors on Mona, choking away as Jeanie takes the ref & stands tall with Asya. As far as I know, they never did anything with this feud after this.
WCW Hardcore Title on a Pole Match Brian Knobbs vs Adrian Byrd vs Dave Burkhead vs Norman Smiley vs Rick Fuller vs Dog April 1, 2000 Of course this was a match in the Russo era. Al Greene was Dog, who just wore camouflage & barked, that was it. He was “found” or “recruited” by Brian Knobbs & I think Fit Finaly (he might’ve broke up with Knobbs at that point, I’m not looking it up). Everyone came to the ring with weapons and the noises Scott Hudson is making on commentary after every shot is fucking stupid. Dave Burkhead is apparently bleeding as all this match is was weapon shots. Hudson just said this is the end of WCW as we know it, D-Day is April 10th. I guess that was when Bischoff & Russo became a thing, so he was sort of right. This is 7 minutes of dudes just hitting each other with shit until Knobbs put the ladder on his head & spun around, wiping everyone out. Dog wipes out Knobbs, Smiley sets up a ladder to climb the ropes (you heard me), Knobbs plays symbols with trash can lids & grabs the title. What a clusterfuck dumb match to end this WCW rewatch? Hudson says Russo & Bischoff are steering the ship to the top, little did they know, they hit a fucking iceberg.
BONUS MATCH Blitzkrieg & Super Dragon vs American Wildchild & The Hellraiser July 16, 1998 WCW Thunder Dark Match The owner/booker of PWG, the notorious Super Dragon in WCW! Bell sounds & Dragon and Blitz hit double tope con hilos that makes the crowd explode! Slingshot senton & moonsault back inside by Dragon gets a 2 count on Wildchild, who hits a sloppy handspring elbow on Dragon. Facebuster by Wildchild, who tags Hellraiser & hits a huge splash for 2. Dragon hits some tame kicks, then takes Hellraiser down & tags Blitzkrieg, who gets clocked with a big boot, but he fires back with dropkicks sending his opponents to the floor. Super Dragon with a moonsault off the top & Blitzkrieg with a sky twisting springboard moonsault that have the crowd going crazy. He hits a massive Phoenix Splash for the 3 count and the crowd is on their feet for a dark match. This was in Oakland, so all these guys are SoCal talent & the crowd luckily loved it.
FIN.

The History of Super Astros I was always intrigued by Super Astros and the talent they had in the short time it was on. I remember watching it Sunday mornings from time to time and would see luchadors and the occasional Japanese stars as well. Cut to May 99 and I saw a taping of the show during a Monday Night RAW show and I actually got to see Tiger Mask wrestle live, which didn’t click how great that was until years later. Anyways, I wanted to do a dive into the matches on this show and figured some of you on here wouldn’t remember this show at all. And considering I got a D- in high school Spanish (59.5, which rounds up to 60, muchos gracias), I have zero clue what the commentators are saying for any of these matches. The show certainly had a formula to the matches as its arm drags, hip tosses & dives aplenty. No titles, but there will be a storyline that lasts for months & wraps up pretty cool. Figured this is something not many have seen, so enjoy!
Commentators: Carlos Cabrera & Hugo Savinovich Host: Marcelo Rodriguez Backstage Smokeshow: Maria Felipe
Roster Miguel Perez El Merenguero (Jesus Castillo) Armando Fernandez El Hijo del Santo Papi Chulo Negro Casas Apollo Dantes Super Loco Rey Ortiz Jose Estrada Pantera El Bandido Felino Tiger Mask Taka Michinoku Sho Funaki
The Minis Max Mini Mini Nova Battalion El Torito
Brief Cameos Dick Togo Scott Taylor Giant Silva The Hardy Boyz
November 22, 1998 Scott Taylor vs Armando Fernandez Scott tries a hip toss & Armando clocks him with a lariat, then hits a missile dropkick off the top for 2. Taylor to the floor as Armando tries a baseball slide, but Taylor side steps & drops him with a lariat of his own. Back inside, Scott floats over into a back suplex, kips up & moonwalks, showing some early Scotty 2 Hotty-isms as he hits a vertical suplex for 2. Scott lowers his head & Armando nearly gets a sunset flip, but Taylor punches free. Armando tries a dropkick off a reversal, but settles for a clothesline to the floor & a Tope Con Hilo!! Back inside, Armando misses a springboard moonsault as Taylor goes up top, tries for a headbutt, but crashes and burns. Armando hits a spinning Angels Wings for the 3 count. Crowd popped big for the finish.
El Merenguero vs Christopher Martinez So I’m certain Merenguero is one of the Los Boricuas in a dancing gimmick. He dances with the leggy ring announcer as Howard Finkel is looking on and sad it’s not him, I guess. Clothesline by Merenguero to start, but Martinez answers with a back elbow sending his opponent outside. He misses a double axe as Merenguero throws him back in, tries for a top rope cross body & Martinez floats over for a 2 count. He misses a splash in the corner & Merenguero connects with a spinning kick, but Martinez nails a standing rana, only to miss a corner senton. Merenguero sets him up in the corner & nails a massive avalanche reverse brainbuster The Merenguero-Plex we’re told (I can make that out) for the 3.
El Hijo del Santo vs Super Loco Santo is a legend and Loco would become Super Crazy in ECW. Series of lucha moves starts with Santo getting an arm drag & spinning head scissors, which he holds on & Loco keeps standing up from it, only to be taken down. Loco finally gets free & slams Santo down, hitting a springboard moonsault for 2, then absolutely crushes Santo with a springboard butt bump (I guess) as we go to commercial. Back from break and Santo is in control with a bulldog & big back body drop. He quickly scales the top, flying headbutt as he slaps on the La De A Caballo (the camel clutch) for a quick submission win.
November 29, 1998 Papi Chulo vs Manuel Gomez Chulo would become Essa Rios and he’d immediately get backdropped to the floor as Gomez hits a wild tope suicida clearing the ring post in the process. He posts Chulo & allows Chulo to recover, as he fires back turning Gomez inside out with a lariat. Gomez ducks a corner attack, then does a springboard arm drag off the top & sends Papi into the ropes crashing. Wild flipping arm drag & a twisting cross body over the top outside! Gomez gets too close to the ropes & pulled outside, clotheslined down as Chulo hits a twisting Asaii Moonsault! He tries a powerbomb on the floor, but settles for another clothesline as Gomez slowly gets back in & nails a missile dropkick. These two are no selling shit as Gomez hits a slingshot twisting splash back inside for 2. Gomez tries a victory roll, but they trade pin attempts as they try flips out of the corner, but Chulo lands on his feet, Gomez crashes. Chulo lowers his head & gets planted with a powerbomb as Gomez signals for the end, another powerbomb, but Chulo floats over into a sunset flip (landing right on his fucking head in the process) for the 3 count.
Miguel Perez vs Super Loco Let’s see if Loco can get back on track against the second Boricua we’ve seen in Perez. Misdirect leads to Loco landing on the apron & hits a springboard headbutt sending Perez outside. Loco tries a moonsault, but misses, landing on his feet. Perez with a slingshot cross body & quickly back inside, where he tries a powerbomb, misses, Loco tries a powerbomb, misses, Perez with a victory roll 1…2…3! Super quick win over Super Loco.
Negro Casas vs Sho Funaki The Kaientai member attacks at the bell, having to be pulled off Casas by the official as Funaki is relentless at the start here. Casas cuts him off with a DDT & springboard dropkick that hits about 5% of, so he tosses Funaki outside as we get a commercial. Back from break & Funaki finally gets back in & hits a corner forearm & bulldog. Snap suplex gets a 2 count as he shoots Casas to the corner, but eats a boot & lariat. Casas tries locking on a submission, but Yamaguchi-san ringside distracts him, tripping him up in the process. Match falls apart as Yamaguchi is missing his spots, forgetting to jump on the apron to collide with Funaki, who pretty much runs into the ropes & gets rolled up for the 3. Post match, Dick Togo challenges Casas to a match next week, the first time I’ve heard Dick Togo get mic time.
December 6, 1998 Miguel Perez vs Rey Ortiz Perez sends Ortiz outside sliding on his belly as he connects with a flying cross body, then another one off the top rope back inside for 2. He tries for a standing rana pin & gets yet another near fall. Arm bar applied to slow down his own momentum, which is questionable by Perez. Knife edge chops by the Boricua, but Ortiz crotches him in the corner, hitting a huge superplex, going back up top & hits a dropkick sending Perez outside. Insane slingshot senton on a downed Perez on the floor gets zero reaction unfortunately as he gets a 2 count back inside. He levels Ortiz with a clothesline & dropkick, then hits his victory roll for the 3 count.
Apollo Dantes vs El Merenguero Merenguero gets a few shoulder tackles to start, then floats over Dantes, clotheslining him outside & hits a slingshot dive, like every other match thus far. Hard chops inside by Merenguero, but Dantes gets a back elbow in & a hard chop for a receipt. Shoulder breaker is busted out to the delight of no one (just me, it was rad) as he continues targeting the shoulder & clotheslines Merenguero in the corner. Merenguero tries a flying forearm, but tumbles outside & Dantes hits a suicide dive through the ropes. Back inside, Dantes gets a standing figure four pinning combo to win super quick.
Dick Togo vs Negro Casas Togo wants revenge for last week as he launches Casas high in the air with a back drop and within seconds of this starting, he slaps on a rest hold. Casas reverses the arm bar into a slam of his own, but Togo escapes, slapping Casas right in the face, so Casas fires off a kick to the chest. Hard chops follow & this match is stiff as hell. Brutal DDT & standing senton gets Casas 2 as he continues just puntin away at Togo, who has had enough, charges, but eats a boot. Casas tries a victory roll, but Togo turns it into a wheelbarrow face buster, but misses his patented senton bomb off the top. Step up enzugiri & La Magistral Cradle get Casas the 3 count!
December 13, 1998 El Hijo del Santo vs Jose Estrada The third Boricua to appear on the show tries to attack at the bell, but Santo sends him outside & nails a suicide dive through the ropes. Back inside, top rope missile dropkick leads to a running bulldog & another. The size differential between these two is pretty insane as Estrada just powers Santo down as he tried for a third bulldog. Estrada tries unmasking Santo, gives up & goes up top, missing a headbutt. Santo with a victory roll for 3. Yikes, this wasn’t good.
El Torito vs Mini Nova Our first little guy match as a head scissors sends Torito to the outside. Torito gets back in & immediately sends Nova down, who answers with another head scissors. He gets a running start & arm drags Torito to the floor. Nova then hits a springboard cross body off the second rope outside! Torito recovers in record time & gets back in, slamming Nova down & tries for a senton off the second, misses as Nova goes up top & hits a flying roll up 1…2…NO! Nova gets slammed down as Torito goes to the top & hits a diving splash for the 3 count.
Apollo Dantes vs Negro Casas Corner clotheslines by Dantes starts & he answers with a spinebuster as Casas fires back with chops & a DDT for 2. Dantes cuts him off & nails a missile dropkick, but does a cocky cover for 2. Big boot drops Casas, but Dantes goes again & gets his leg swept. Massive back drop to the floor as Casas hit a plancha filling the dive quota for this episode as we go to break as Jose Estrada makes his way ringside. Back from break Casas hits the ropes & gets tripped by Estrada, allowing Dantes to regain control with his shoulder breaker. Casas fires back with kicks & chops and they exchange near falls as Casas hits multiple dropkicks, gaining momentum with a leg sweep submission, but we see El Hijo del Santo run to the ring as Estrada puts the boots to Casas. All 4 men start brawling and we get a Double DQ. Which is fine, since it leads us to our first match next week.

December 20, 1998 El Hijo del Santo & Negro Casas vs Jose Estrada & Apollo Dantes Neither Casas or Dantes can hit more than one move early before the other has it scouted. Back drop by Dantes, but he poses too long & eats a dropkick and clothesline to the floor. No tags from either as Estrada & Santo in as the Boricua gets a knee lift, as Casas & Estrada take turns dishing out offense to Santo, as they have him isolated before he & Dantes hit double clotheslines on each other and Casas gets the hot tag. House of fire is Casas as he gets a sleeper hold bringing Estrada down, Santo goes up top & hits a senton on both, then nails a suicide dive onto Dantes outside. Casas rolls up Estrada for the 3 count. Fun quick little lucha tag.
Armando Fernandez vs Julio Sanchez Monkey flip by Fernandez early, but Julio answers with a snap suplex. So many fans are holding up Al Snow mannequin heads chanting “We Want Head” during this, it’s pretty funny. Leg sweep by Julio gets a 2 count, but he argues with the official, gets rolled up 1…2…kick out. Julio with a clothesline & nearfall of his own, but Fernandez answers with a big back body drop. Dropkick drops Julio as he plants him with the spinning Angels Wings for a fast victory.
El Torito vs Max Mini Max gets a head scissors & arm drag to the floor as he hits a suicide dive & then flipping head scissors to get the crowd popping. In the middle of the replay, Torito takes over with a powerbomb, then pops Max up, who lands standing on Torito’s shoulders, falling on him for 2. Springing arm drag sends Torito outside & Max goes up top with a twisting cross body!! Back inside, Max gets a hurricanrana off the top & an arm drag into a pinning combo for the win! He was awesome in this one & got revenge for his loss last week.
December 27, 1998 Armando Fernandez vs Sho Funaki Shoulder by Funaki as he slams Fernandez to the corner & turns him inside out with a back elbow. Fernandez scales to the top & hits a massive arm drag sending Funaki outside, allowing Armando to nails a somersault dive! Funaki no sells it pretty much as 3 seconds later he’s back in control inside with a bulldog & snap dropkick. Fernandez gets an atomic drop, but Funaki cuts him off with a lariat. Funaki nails a wheelbarrow face buster for a 2 count as he misses a corner splash & Armando nails a snap powerslam for 2 of his own. He slams Funaki down & hits a spinning cross body slam for the 3. Funaki kicked out right at 3, so maybe this wasn’t the finish?
Papi Chulo vs Buddy Wayne Wayne gets a float over hip toss, then nails an arm drag, only to get popped in the face with a hard right hand. Chulo tries for a powerbomb, but Wayne lands on his feet & eats a lariat. He crotches Wayne on the ropes and hits a wheel kick sending Wayne outside. Chulo posts Buddy, who slides back inside, lowers the head & Wayne kicks him in the face. Snap mare gets a 2 count, but tries a float over, gets caught in mid air & planted with a face buster for the quick 3 count. Chulo made sure he picked up his sunglasses before heading to the back. Wayne got pinned and immediately rushed to the back as these two were clearly told don’t go over 2 minutes.
El Merenguero vs Apollo Dantes Chops & a splash in the corner by Dantes, but goes to the well once too many & misses a splash as Merenguero nails a back drop & high knee. Fans are more occupied holding up all their signs (oh, the good old days) as Dantes loads up his fist as Merenguero is talking with the ref & clocks him with a right hand. He goes for the pin, but Armando Fernandez rushes down & tells the ref of the loaded fist, so Dantes just punches him in the face too. The ref DQ’s Dantes, who stands tall over Fernandez & Merenguero to end the episode. Pretty shitty ending to the episode.
January 3, 1999 Armando Fernandez vs Apollo Dantes Armando springs into the ring for his entrance & eats a right hand before landing and that’s the commercial break. We’re back and Dantes has kept it up with a short arm clothesline. He locks on a bow & arrow, letting Armando fall on his face before dropkicking him outside, connecting with a suicide dive. Back inside, Gory Special as Fernandez is able to sunset flip out of it for 2. Flying lariat leads to a friggin rear chin lock & headlock, which is thankfully cut short quick with a Dantes back suplex for 2. Snake Eyes by Apollo, who answers with a flapjack & starts going for the leg, but just gives up on it so he can go to the top & miss a senton bomb. Armando fires back with forearms, then hits a tilt a whirl back breaker & slingshot splash for a near fall. He clotheslines Dantes outside & nails a Tope Suicida! Back inside Dantes puts the brakes on & hits a face buster, but loads up his fist, Jack Doan catches him, so Fernandez school boys him for the 3.
January 10, 1999 El Merenguero vs Julio Sanchez More aggressive attitude by Merenguero as he baseball slides Sanchez in the face outside to start, then hits a cross body off the top back inside for 2. Sanchez charges in the corner, but gets rolled up for 2 as Merenguero up first & eats a spin kick to the chops. Merenguero hits a sunset flip for 2, but Sanchaez pops up & levels him with a lariat. They go back & forth before Sanchez tries a sleeper, but Merenguero nails a back suplex. Sanchez tries to climb to the top & gets crotched as Merenguero connects with his reverse brainbuster off the top The Merenguero Plex for the 3 count.
Miguel Perez vs Rey Ortiz Perez starches Ortiz with an opening lariat & slaps on a chicken wing within seconds as he tosses Ortiz in the corner, but Ortiz gets a back elbow. To the top & Ortiz nails a dropkick sending Perez to the floor. Somersault dive wipes out Perez, who is clutching his shoulder & pointing to the ref, he’s hurt, but the match keeps going. His shoulder is hanging as he throws chips with his other arm, sets Ortiz up on the second rope & nails a hurricanrana, hits a regular one, but Ortiz rolls through for a 2 count. Ortiz keeps fucking shooting Perez to the corner with his bad arm & it’s rough to watch. Finally Perez hits his victory roll up for the win. Ref should’ve stopped this.
Giant Silva vs JR Ryder Yup, Silva of The Oddities is here as Ryder tries to shoot Silva off, but the big man just stares at him, clocking Ryder with a clothesline. I should also point out Max Mini is standing on the commentary table dressed as Zorro, so there’s that. Silva stalks Ryder to the corner & hits clubbing blows as Ryder throws a shot, but his fist is caught & powered down. He shoots Ryder off & catches him in the clutches, massive Choke Slam for the easy 3. Post match, Mini springs into the ring & Silva hoists him up on his shoulders as they dance & wave to the crowd to the tune of ICP. Attitude Era, folks.
January 17 El Hijo del Santo vs Rey Ortiz Lucha back & forth kicks us off with Santo getting his rolling head scissors before Ortiz gets free & slams him down. Somersault senton off the top gets only 2 as Santo eats a knee to the corner, but as Ortiz tries again, he tumbles outside. Santo hits a running rana off the apron, allowing Ortiz to recover back inside. He hits a tilt a whirl head scissors, but Ortiz boots him to the ropes, charges & gets monkey flipped to the floor. Santo nails a suicide dive through the ropes sending Ortiz flying. Back inside, Santo hits his diving headbutt to a standing Ortiz, then slaps on the Camel Clutch for the win.
Apollo Dantes & Papi Chulo vs El Merenguero & Miguel Perez Dantes gets taken down by Perez, who hits a standing moonsault, then slaps on a headlock, just a weird choice of moves. Perez hits a few hip tosses before tagging in Merenguero, who hits one of his own. Dantes ducks a lariat, puts the brakes on & nails one of his own, then plants Merenguero with a snap suplex. Tag to Chulo, who comes in with an axe off the top taking us to break. When we return, Perez is getting worked over by Chulo, who misses a corner splash & Perez tags Merenguero and the Boricuas double team Chulo & Dantes. Merenguero signals to Perez to send Dantes in, but he decides to dance & Perez sends Dantes in, colliding with Merenguero. Perez tries for a victory roll, but Merenguero back in and HE ATTACKS HIS PARTNER!! It cuts there, that’s all we got to see. Pretty friggin fast heel turn there by Merenguero.

January 24 Armando Fernandez vs Papi Chulo Fast start for Fernandez, who hits a series of moves, sending Chulo to the corner, but gets backdropped to the apron. Chulo poses & eats a forearm, then missile dropkick. They trade reverse waist locks as Chulo tries a wheel kick, Armando ducks & hits a clothesline. Sit out powerbomb by Fernandez, who goes up top & misses a springing moonsault. Chulo hits a massive head scissors off the top & only gets a 2 count. He tosses Fernandez to the floor & hits a springboard twisting moonsault that wipes Armando clean out. Back inside, Armando ducks an attack & hits one monkey flip, tries a second, but Chulo slams him down, feet on the ropes & gets the 3 count.
Negro Casas vs Funaki Funaki slaps on a sleeper and is told by the ref to let it go because it’s a choke, which it wasn’t. He does this again & is scolded again. Then Casas does the same fucking thing and the ref lets it go. This is shitty for Funaki, who just rakes the eyes of Casas, who fires back with a neckbreaker. Pop up dropkick sends Funaki outside & Casas nails a slingshot cross body. I had zero idea that Apollo Dantes was ringside, but he throws Funaki back inside and the Kaientai member takes over, working the wrist, because that’s what will ground a luchador. Funaki tells Dantes to get on the apron and he loads the fist up. He sends Casas in, but moves at the last second & Dantes nearly hits Funaki, but pulls up. Funaki thanks him as Casas dropkicks Funaki into Dantes, then gets a La Magistral Cradle for the 3 count.
El Merenguero vs Miguel Perez Boricuas collide as Perez is out for revenge for last week & hits a dropkick sending Merenguero outside & he nails a twisting plancha. Back inside, brutal powerbomb destroys Merenguero, but the dancer gets an eye poke, lowers his head & Perez gets a sunset flip for 2. Merenguero pops up with a lariat for 2 of his own as he slaps on a rest hold, allowing Apollo Dantes to show up for the second match in a row, then Negro Casas, Rey Ortiz & Armando Fernandez all hit ringside as Perez starts his comeback with a snap powerslam for 2. Before anything else can happen, all 6 men are in the ring and we have a brawl. Referees try prying them apart but it’s chaos to end the episode. I think we know where this is leading.
January 31 Apollo Dantes, El Merenguero & Rey Ortiz vs Armando Fernandez, Miguel Perez & Negro Casas All 6 men brawl to start with the technicos hitting a trifecta of backdrops. Merenguero & Fernandez start officially as they trade corner shots & Armando arm drags Merenguero down & nails a hurricanrana and top rope cross body for 2. Dropkick sends Merenguero outside where Casas hits a dive, then all the rudos gets sent outside & Armando and Miguel hit double dives! Casas & Ortiz legal now as Casas tries a monkey flip, but Ortiz stomps on him, as Casas hits a pop up dropkick. Dantes & Perez in now as Apollo hits a kitchen sink knee. Perez hits a corner hurricanrana, then backdrops Dantes to the floor as we head to break. We’re back and Armando is taking the fight to Ortiz, who nails a wheel barrow face buster. Missile dropkick by Dantes as Casas jumps in and attacks Apollo’s knee. Merenguero clips Casas from behind & the rudos attack behind the refs back. They keep Casas isolated before Dantes misses a corner splash & Armando gets the hot tag. Match breaks down soon after and the ref loses control as his attention is turned to Perez & Merenguero outside. This allows Armando Fernandez to roll up Dantes, as Papi Chulo hits the ring, DDTs Fernandez and Dantes picks up the scraps for the 3 count. The amount of time the ref had his head through the ropes was comically long. It was insanely ridiculous.
El Hijo del Santo vs Papi Chulo Chulo gets the early start with snapmares galore as he tries to unmask Santo quickly, but the ref stops him long enough for Santo to hits some flying forearms for 2. Kitchen sink knee cuts off Santo as we head to break. Back from commercial & Santo hits a running bulldog, tries for another, but Chulo tosses him down. Papi tries a somersault plancha, but Santo moves & Chulo lands on his friggin feet! They get back inside as Chulo slides to the floor, avoids the first dive, but turns his back & Santo hits a diving cross body off the top. Quickly back in & Santo hits a somersault senton for a 2. Santo tries a monkey flip & Chulo slams him down, feet on the rope, same way he beat Fernandez last week, but here’s Armando Fernandez right on cue to slap the feet away from the ropes. Chulo gets distracted long enough for Santo to roll him up for the 3 count.
February 7 El Hijo del Santo vs Pantera Head scissors by Santo and dropkick to answer by Pantera, who hits a pop up flapjack on Santo, but tries again & gets arm dragged down by Santo. Hurricanrana & a head scissors are followed by an arm drag as Pantera no sells it & just pops him with a superkick. He poses, then gets back dropped outside, allowing Santo to nail a tope suicida. Pantera hits a clothesline back inside, but goes to the top, only for Santo to hit a hurricanrana, nearly murdering Pantera in the process. Santo gets sent outside & Pantera nails a somersault senton onto the floor, which is always brutal to see. Back inside, Pantera connects with a draping flapjack off the ropes & tries for a top rope moonsault, but misses. Santo nails his somersault senton, then Camel Clutch for the super quick tap.
El Bandido vs Negro Casas Our first look at Bandido on Astros as they have a slap battle before Casas hits a wheel kick, lowers his head, but Bandido slams him to the mat. He folds Casas up with a powerbomb for 2 as Casas fights back with a clothesline, sending Bandido outside. Shockingly we don’t get a dive & Bandido just gets back inside & we lock up. They trade shoulder blocks & slaps as here comes El Merenguero ringside. Bandido takes the ref & Merenguero cracks Casas with a right hand & this becomes a running trend. Casas does start fighting back, but gets tripped up by Merenguero and the race is on as Casas chases after him all the way up the ramp to the back. Bandido wins via countout in his debut.
Armando Fernandez vs El Merenguero I guess Merenguero lost Casas in the chase as he’s out here in the main event getting his ass handed to him early by Fernandez. Head scissors drops Merenguero on his head as Fernandez dropkicks him to the floor & nails a somersault plancha. Back inside, Merenguero cuts Armando off & chops him brutally in the corner, choking him with his boot. We see Bandido ringside to presumably repay the favor from Merenguero, who misses a corner splash & Fernandez takes him down with a series of elbows & legdrops. Merenguero signals to Bandido to get up on the apron and he does, but Fernandez sends him crashing into each other, rolls up Merenguero for the 3 count.
February 14 Armando Fernandez & El Hijo del Santo vs Pantera & Papi Chulo Chulo works Santo’s arm early as Pantera drops the double axe off the top onto it. Chulo made the tag, but kept going and the ref tells Pantera to get back out, but he doesn’t listen, it’s not his cue yet. Finally Santo dropkicks the heels outside and he & Fernandez hit double dives. Back inside Fernandez tries a monkey flip, but Chulo hits a wheelbarrow face buster for 2. Leg sweep by Fernandez, who can’t follow up with a missed elbow as Chulo tries for a Tornado DDT, but gets launched. Fernandez with a missile dropkick, takes way too long up top the second time & Chulo nails an arm drag off the top. Tag to Pantera & they hit the pop up super rana out of the corner for 2. He stacks up Fernandez with a powerbomb for another 2 as Santo breaks it up. No tag by the heels as Pantera hits a DDT, then another, sending Fernandez outside & hits a somersault senton to the floor. Santo goes up & hits a crossbody on Pantera as Chulo nails a tope suicida wiping everyone out. Back inside Fernandez hits a spinning Angels Wings just like that for the 3. No one sold that dive by Chulo at the end. Post match Fernandez sprinted after Chulo up the ramp for reasons I don’t know, he just won.
El Merenguero & El Bandido vs Miguel Perez & Negro Casas Casas & Bandido start with Bandido hitting a pop up dropkick & tagging Merenguero who hits a leaping legdrop to Casas in a bent over position. Hard chops to the corner, but misses a splash as Casas tags in Perez who hits a rana & clothesline that absolutely crumbles Merenguero. We get an extended arm bar from Perez to take us to break and when we return, Bandido has a headlock on Perez, but gives it up to floor him with a lariat. Bandido misses a splash in the corner and Casas gets the hot tag. Match breaks down as Merenguero gets launched with a back body drop & dropkicked outside by Perez, who hits his spinning plancha. Back inside Bandido tries a pump handle, but Casas floats over & gets La Magistral for the 3 count!
February 21 El Mereguero vs Miguel Perez Dropkick sends Merenguero outside as these two keep brawling all the way to the back and this is literally it. This match went 30 seconds maybe?
Mini Nova vs Battalion (w/El Torito) Nova gets a running start & head scissors that send Battalion outside & Nova hits a somersault dive off the top!! Back inside Nova hits a top rope diving victory roll, but only gets a 2 count. Battalion regains control with a tilt a whirl slam as El Torito bad mouths Max Mini, who is on commentary. Head stand by Nova in the corner as he head scissors Battalion multiple times as Torito pops up on the apron, holds Nova, but he ducks & Battalion dropkicks Torito to the floor! Springboard twisting crucifix gets Nova the 3 count as Battalion & Torito put the boots to Nova post match. Max quickly gets off commentary & makes the save with head scissors to both men as he & Nova jump on the commentators table to celebrate.
Armando Fernandez & Felino vs Apollo Dantes & Papi Chulo Diving leg clip by Chulo to start, which is unique as he hits a follow up flying back elbow & mocks Fernandez. Chulo misses a clothesline & eats one from Armando for a 2 count as he tags Felino in, diving out of the way from a charging Chulo, who lands on his head in the corner. Moonsault, but Chulo lands on his feet & runs into a lariat, so here comes Dantes, and he & Felino mess up the first spot they try, so Felino just hits a rana to the floor. We cut backstage where MIGUEL PEREZ & EL MERENGUERO ARE STILL BRAWLING!! Back to the ring and Fernandez gets a facebuster off a Chulo attempted rewind off Dantes in the ropes (think Private Party’s thing). Match really is starting to fall apart with the amount of confusion & botched spots. This is really one of the worst communicated matches I’ve seen as finally Perez & Merenguero fight over the barricade & inside the ring as Dantes & Chulo put the boots to Perez and we have a 6 man brawl to end the show. Match sucked, but it leads us to our next match, which will hopefully be better.
February 28 Armando Fernandez, Felino & Miguel Perez vs Apollo Dantes, El Merenguero & Papi Chulo Babyfaces work over Dantes arm to start, but he flat out slaps Fernandez in the face & hooks a headlock, tagging in Merenguero, who promptly gets sent to the floor & eats a Fernandez dive. The heels regroup as Felino & Chulo are in now with Felino chopping away, only to eat a Chulo boot. He tries a springboard rana, but Felino powerbombs out of it for 2. Fernandez tags back in & he hits a face first suplex, but as he hits the ropes, Merenguero hooks the top & Armando tumbles. Heels put the boots to him outside until he simply walks to his corner on the floor, haha. They needed to go to commercial & that’s one way to do it. We return with the heels isolating Fernandez & Merenguero hitting a solid butterfly suplex for 2. Match ultimately breaks down into a brawl with Perez & Fernandez hitting dives on Merenguero & Dantes. Chulo though tries a monster moonsault, but crashes & Felino drops him with a DDT for the 3 count as Perez & Armando hold off the heels.
Battalion & El Torito vs Max Mini & Nova Head scissors & flippy arm drag by Nova starts & he nails a top rope rana, only to get wiped out by Torito as Battalion spills outside. Torito misses a splash in the corner, so Max climbs up top & nails a top rope rana of his own, but Torito lands on his feet and Max nails round the world arm drag, but gets clocked from behind by Battalion. He misses a standing senton as Nova gets the tag, but the heels take over & try to unmask Nova, getting pretty damn close as Battalion just hits a standing splash for 2. Superkick by Torito sends Nova flying halfway across the ring as he gorilla presses Nova to the corner & dropkicks him. Nova fights back with an arm drag sending Torito to the floor & a wheelbarrow arm drag on Battalion. Tag to Max, who nails a head scissors & arm drag outside, then hits a twisting corkscrew cross body off the top super quick. Those two crack heads as Torito & Nova are back inside and Torito hits a running splash for 3, anticlimactic finish for an otherwise awesome match. Post match, heels lay out Max, who vows revenge.

March 7 Rey Ortiz vs Felino Springboard somersault plancha wipes out Ortiz on the floor to start as Felino goes up top back in the ring & nails a massive elbow drop for 2. Felino with a Crucifix Bomb for another near fall as he’s starting hot here. Just as I say that, Ortiz hits a tilt a whirl powerbomb for 2. Wheelbarrow facebuster follows that up as Ortiz hits a snap dropkick & hits somersault senton on the floor. Back inside he hits another sit out powerbomb & the ref dicks him over as Ortiz didn’t get his shoulder up for the kick out, but doesn’t count. Ortiz fights back with a spinning fireman’s carry slam for 2, goes to the top rope & tries for a hurricanrana, but Felino hits a super powerbomb! Ortiz rolls outside & Felino nails a moonsault! Back inside, Felino hits a Tornado DDT, then rolls up Ortiz for only 2. Ortiz gets a boot to the gut & gets a Tombstone position but turns it into a face buster. Felino tries a roll up, but Ortiz puts on the brakes & gets his feet on the ropes for 3. Felino was super impressive.
Val Venis vs Julio Sanchez Zero idea why the Intercontinental Champion is here as he does his creep promo & hits a spinebuster to start. He literally reaches into his pants & smacks his hand up into a fist & nails a right hand. I mean, WHAT? Sanchez takes control with a boot to the face & gets a 1 count, then chokes Val in the ropes. Val hits his revolution knees to the gut & side Russian leg sweep as he hits a powerslam, then signals for the end already, hits the Money Shot and that does it. What purpose did this serve on Super Astros? I think it’s to validate having RAW Superstars in the opening video package, despite none of them actually appearing on this show. Minus the occasional Kaientai appearance.
March 14 Negro Casas vs El Bandido Slapfest to start as Bandido finally gives in & hooks a headlock. They trade shoulder blocks & Casas finally dropkicks Bandido outside and wipes him out with a dive. They slowly crawl back inside & Bandido sets Casas up in the corner, only for Casas to hit a diving rana, then another one on the apron to the floor. Spinebuster back inside by Casas, that Bandido pops right up from so Casas chops him to the corner. Back drop by Bandido, who misses a running senton & Casas gets La Magistral for the win.
Armando Fernandez vs Funaki (w/El Bandido) I can’t tell you why Bandido is out with Funaki, I’m sure they explained it, but I have no clue. Fast start by Armando who sets Funaki up in the corner & nails a springboard dropkick sending the Kaientai member crashing to the floor. Back inside, Armando keeps it going until Funaki hits a snap dropkick & back elbow turning Armando inside out, getting a 2 count off a suplex. Stalling elbow to the face gets another near fall as Bandido gets a cheap shot in with the refs back turned. Nice neckbreaker gets only 2 for Funaki, who misses a back elbow & we get a double down from clotheslines. Funaki hits a Michinoku Driver, but Bandido up on the apron to tell Funaki to go up top. He reluctantly does, but misses an elbow & Armando makes the cover for 3.
March 21 Miguel Perez vs Apollo Dantes Massive back drop sends Apollo outside & Perez connects with a top con hilo, but takes way too much time going to the top, tries a moonsault, as Dantes seems to turn it into a powerslam pretty impressively. Yet, that’s not what it was supposed to be, it was just a moonsault that overshot & Dantes saved Perez from eating shit. Dantes gets a headlock for 5 seconds, giving it up, only to go right back to it, which was weird. El Merenguero makes his way down the aisle as Dantes hits a tope suicida when we return from break. It’s funny seeing Merenguero in “street clothes” as he’s traded his dancing gear for his Boricuas attire. Dantes shoots Perez to the corner, but runs at him so slowly that Perez got his elbow up like 20 seconds before Dantes made it over to run into it. Perez slams him down & tries a moonsault & misses as Merenguero tells Dantes to end this as he picks up Perez, who gets a sunset flip out of nowhere for the win! Post match, Dantes turns his back on Merenguero, so Merenguero attacks him on the ramp, scolding him.
Armando Fernandez, El Hijo del Santo & Negro Casas vs El Bandido, Funaki & Papi Chulo Bandido gets the fast start on Casas, but the babyface answers with a dropkick sending Bandido outside & Casas wipes him out with a dive. Back inside, enzugiri sends Bandido back outside & Santo tags in, nailing a tope suicida by the post. Chulo tags in as the heels try to take him down, but Chulo pops Santo up & he dropkicks Bandido outside. Funaki & Armando quickly inside as Armando nails a spinning head scissors, but Funaki answers with a forearm & bulldog. Bandido in & he hits a butterfly suplex for 2 as we go from break & return with Chulo hitting a 450 on Santo as Chulo messes up & knocks Santo back to his corner to get a tag to Casas. The heels take over on Casas, but the match breaks down & we get a row bow spot on the heels as Fernandez dropkicks Funaki outside & hits a tope, Bandido does the same, then Casas & Chulo as well! Santo climbs up & does a cross body as we’ve checked everyone off the dive list now. Santo wipes out Funaki back inside & nails a diving head butt to a standing Funaki, then slaps on the Camel Clutch for the quick submission. I dug this match quite a bit.
March 28 El Bandido vs Armando Fernandez They take turns just slapping the shit out of one another before Armando nails a head scissors & spinning cross body to the floor. Bandido recovers inside & hits a standing powerbomb folding up Armando for 2. Fernandez tries a leap frog out of the corner, but gets Alabama Slammed for 2. Wheelbarrow arm drag & dropkick by Armando as he hits a missile dropkick sending Bandido spilling back outside. Huge cross body off the top as Fernandez lands pretty damn flush, but he hits a springboard clothesline back inside, tries the spinning Angels Wings and gets it for the 3. I dug that Fernandez hit a series of moves uninterrupted to get this win. Too many times guys hit moves for the fuck of it and mean nothing. These all meant something.
El Hijo del Santo & Negro Casas vs Funaki & Papi Chulo So Casas tries a drop toe hold to start, but Funaki falls the wrong way & it’s really odd as I’ve never seen that before. As I’m typing this, Chulo just pops in the ring & gets taken down with a head scissors. I know it’s Lucha rules, but the whole concept of tags has gone out the window as we go to break. We’re back to a Funaki backdrop driver on Casas & Chulo hits his 450 splash for 2. Quick tags by the heels as Casas actually does tag Santo, but the ref doesn’t acknowledge it because it’s not time yet for the hot tag, which is hilarious. Funaki stumbles in the corner & now we get our tag (not worth it) as the heels send the faces colliding, but Funaki accidentally dropkicks Chulo outside & Santo hits a senton on Funaki and running dive on Chulo. Casas locks in the La Magistral on Funaki to get the 3. Super duper sloppy, but I liked the finishing sequence.
Apollo Dantes vs El Merenguero Revenge on the mind of Dantes after last week as he shoots Merenguero into the steps to start. We get in the ring & Dantes keeps choking Merenguero before mocking his dancing & a spinebuster. He misses a running knee in the corner as Merenguero takes control, tossing him outside where he returns the favor into the steps. Miguel Perez is on commentary and Merenguero keeps jaw jacking with him as he posts Dantes in the process. Dropkick sends Merenguero outside, but tries a dive & crashes badly. Merenguero swings at Perez, tosses Dantes back inside & Perez hits Merenguero in the back with a chair! Ref didn’t see it as Perez tosses him back inside and Dantes covers him for the win. Post match, Dantes gets in Perez’s face & we have a 3 man brawl to end the show.
April 4 El Hijo del Santo & Negro Casas vs Papi Chulo & Taka Michinoku Heels aren’t even to the ring yet and Santo says fuck this & nails a wild dive. There’s a Ron Jeremy 3:16 sign in the crowd, figured I’d point that out as Chulo recovers & beats Casas in his corner, tagging Taka. It doesn’t last long as Santo gets the hot tag & head scissors, wheelbarrow arm drag & then it’s back to Casas. Short and sweet from Santo as Casas hits a DDT for 2. Huge dive by Chulo wipes out Casas and an Asaii Moonsault from Taka takes out Santo. Casas tries fighting back inside, but the heels hit a spinebuster & splash. Santo saves his partner & they send Taka and Chulo colliding as Chulo gets backdropped & does a handstand on the ropes before falling which is nuts. Casas tries his La Magistral 1…2…NO!! Taka kicks out as Casas charges & runs right into a Michinoku Driver for the 3 count! Cool finish.
El Merenguero & Apollo Dantes vs Miguel Perez & Jose Estrada Merenguero takes turns with Estrada & Perez to start, but Dantes gets a quick tag & eats a drop toe hold. Perez slingshots Dantes into an Estrada right hand, roll up, but only gets 2 as Merenguero breaks it up. Dantes knocks Perez to the floor & takes the ref, allowing Merenguero to slam Perez into the steps, then hits a butterfly suplex back inside for 2. Match ultimately breaks down & Perez absolutely launches the poor ref for the DQ finish, which is lame.
April 18 El Merenguero vs Jose Estrada It’s all Estrada out the gate as he fires off right hands & stiff clotheslines, but Merenguero bails, hooking a leg and we brawl outside. Estrada slams him in the steps & goes back in, eating a back elbow to the ribs & a swinging neckbreaker. Merenguero, much like last week, returns the favor & slams Estrada into the steps. Merenguero hits a Stun Gun into the corner that knocks Estrada loopy, so he just hits a leaping elbow drop for the 3 count. Not sure if that was the planned finish, but it was super anticlimactic.
Papi Chulo vs Pantera Headstand out of the corner for Pantera who just watches Chulo do a little shuffle before kicking him outside & wiping Papi out with a tope suicida. Boot to the belly welly back inside, but Pantera misses a powerbomb & Chulo nails a DDT. Drop toe hold, spinning into a pinning combo gets Pantera 2 as he tries a hip toss, but Chulo lands on his feet, flips over & Pantera gets clipped in the back of the head & missile dropkicked outside. HUGE somersault plancha clears the ring post as Chulo takes over in the ring with boots. To the corner we go & a big super rana gets Pantera only 2. Chulo lands on his feet off a back drop, then cuts a head scissors short into a facebuster & gets the 3 count!
Taka Michinoku (w/El Merenguero) vs Miguel Perez Merenguero trips Perez immediately (gets tossed from ringside within seconds) as Taka hits a pop up rana for 2, tries another & gets powerbombed. They trade corner chops as Taka sells these like murder & Perez drops a leg. Perez demolishes poor Taka with a lariat and it’s all Perez from this point as Taka is bumping like he’s Curt Hennig. Just then we see Papi Chulo hit the ring & distracts the ref so Taka can kick Perez low & take over. Jose Estrada makes his way ringside to even the odds as Chulo goes to attack, but Pantera hits the ring. You’d think the ref would call a DQ seeing Estrada & Taka fighting outside, but no, he just turns his back & gets distracted by Chulo & Pantera. That allows Funaki to hit the ring & DDT Perez, so Taka covers him for the 3 count. Really shitty ending, but it’s a way to get us to our opener for next week, as forced as it might be.
April 25 Jose Estrada, Miguel Perez & Pantera vs Sho Funaki, Taka Michinoku & Papi Chulo Wild arm drag off the top by Chulo starts & they both flip over the top & Chulo poses on the apron, so Pantera does a diving head scissors TO THE FLOOR and both fall like a ton of bricks. Back inside and Pantera grabs an arm bar, like you do after a monster move like that. Funaki & Perez get in and trade shots as Perez nails a powerbomb for 2. Perez & Estrada hit double clotheslines on Kaientai and Perez punches Funaki right in the face, which looked like it sucked. Heels take over on Pantera as Taka hits a spinebuster, Camel Clutch & snap dropkick with Funaki as they keep Pantera isolated as Chulo hits a Shooting Star Press 1…2…Perez breaks it up. Kaientain hit double forearms in the corner & double slingshot knee drops as they try it again & Pantera hits a somersault headbutt to wipe out Funaki & tag in Estrada. Perez goes after Taka and Pantera with Chulo as Funaki gets a sunset flip for 2, then Estrada hits a snap powerslam, but Chulo comes flying in for a splash and Estrada moves, Chulo lands on Funaki. Estrada sends Chulo packing & covers Funaki for the 3 count. Too much stuff at the end, but the match was fine.
El Merenguero vs Pablo Marquez Merenguero starts wrenching away at Marquez face, argues with the ref & Marquez gets a school boy for 2. Merenguero pops up & levels him with a lariat, then a spin wheel kick to the face after Marquez nearly gets the win off a sunset flip. Marquez quickly goes to the top & hits a missle dropkick and rana, but Merenguero crotches him in the corner, goes up top & nails the reverse brainbuster off the top, the El Merenguero-Plex for the 3 count.
Nova vs Max Mini Quick dropkicks from Max & a pretty stiff lariat follows as Nova arm drags Max, gets a running start & nails a flying headbutt off the second. Max ends up on the top rope & hits a massive arm drag, sending Nova outside & Max does a springboard cross body off the second! Both men slowly recover back inside as Nova just creams Max with a forearm to the head. Wheelbarrow arm drag by Max, who gets another, but Nova chucks him to the floor super hard as Max stumbles back too far and Nova just waits for him to walk to him a bit so he can hit his diving arm drag. Max jumps back inside & Nova drops him with a spinning neckbreaker TKO for 2. Just like that Max fights back with slaps & a fireman’s carry slam as he goes up top, missing a spinning splash. La Magistral by Nova gets a near fall as Max tries a victory roll 1…2…Nova kicks back & folds up Max 1…2…3! Show of sportsmanship to end the show as I dug this main event.

Val Venis had a random match on here? Weird.
This was a show I used to occasionally run into on Telemundo but never watched. Lucha Libre has always been hit or miss with me.
