As requested by Woodridge, here it goes. I can't do the tons of Hardcore title changes & the Tag Titles either as there were an obscene amount of changes for that too & so many meant absolutely nothing.
Speaking of title changes that meant absolutely nothing, I'm going to start with the worst & build my way up to the World Title. So I'm going Women's, European, Intercontinental & World. So it'll only get better as we go on. That said, here we go fellas...
![](https://s1.dmcdn.net/v/An6vy1LjuFANEbB2X/x1080)
Women’s Title Alundra Blayze vs Bull Nakano – April 3, 1995 Bull attacks before the bell, goes to the second & Blayze hits her head scissors, but before she can do anything else, gets walloped with a lariat & hair mare that sends her flying. Lariat & legdrop get Bull 2, then slaps on a knee bar. Blayze gets the ropes, but Bull choke lifts her in the corner & hits a bulldog. Out of nowhere, Alundra starts hitting hair takedowns & a spin kick to the face. Dropkick out of the corner, then another for 2. Bull sits down on a sunset flip for 2, then locks on a submission, releases & hits a piledriver for 2. Bull up top & hits a guillotine leg 1…2…NO! Blayze rolls through a German for 2, then hits one of her own for 2. Cornette says shades of Karl Gotch as she hits another German for another 2. Alundra to the top, but sent crashing outside as Nakano tries for a suicide dive, but misses!! GERMAN SUPLEX ON THE FLOOR by Blayze, who tries to shoot Bull into the steps, but Nakano reverses & Blayze crashes in to the steps. Back inside, Bull goes up top, but misses a Moonsault. 4th German suplex for Blayze gets her the 3 count & the title. This match was pretty friggin awesome & by far and away the best of this list. Grade: ***1/2 It’s really all downhill from here for the most part as this was the best wrestled women's match you’ll get during this 93-01 time frame. Crowd popped and despite not knowing the names of half the moves, Vince did fine on commentary and Corny had some funny lines.
![](https://cdn3.whatculture.com/images/2016/08/221d7b71e8186f52-600x338.jpg) Alundra Blayze vs Bertha Faye – October 23, 1995 Faye gets sent to the corner & hip tossed down as Blayze nails a dropkick off the second for 2. Wheel kick that misses a mile, but Faye sells it still, for a 2 count. Alundra winds up & hits a right and some punts to the belly welly. Hair takedown by Blayze, who hits a cross body for another 2, then a 1 count. She wants a powerbomb on a 350-400 pound woman, so that’s not happening. Bertha backdrops Blayze & slams her down. She goes to the second rope super slowly, but Blayze gets a head scissors dropping her. Harvey tries holding Blayze, but Bertha collides with her boyfriend as she hits a German Suplex for the 3 and the title. Grade: **1/4 It wasn’t the best, it was nowhere in the same galaxy as the worst. It was ok, but Bertha getting up on that German suplex finish was impressive as all hell.
![](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/-PhhjnfT0T8/maxresdefault.jpg) Jackie vs Sable – September 15, 1998 Sable hits the lightest kicks you’ll ever see in the corner as Mero distracts her so Jackie can take over. Shoulders to the midsection as Jackie punts Sable in the ribs, then plants her with a DDT for 2. She chokes Sable in the ropes (as does Mero), but misses a leg & gets hung up. Sable does a Cat Fight & hits a back drop and some clotheslines. Hair mare as Jackie is sent to the apron, Sable suplexes her in, but Mero hooks the leg & Jackie lands on Sable, getting the 3 & the title. Grade: DUD The match sucked, but compared to what we’ll see coming up, it was whatever.
![](https://cdn3.whatculture.com/images/2016/11/081a3a9758cb0a6c-600x338.jpg) Debra vs Sable – May 10, 1999 This was a Bra & Panties match and Sable cut a rambling promo pre-match, then stripped Debra (her boob almost fell out), who was distracted by Val Venis, to presumably win. Commissioner Michaels came out & awarded the title to Debra, since he switched the rules & said whoever got stripped won the title. Shawn looked at Bass and said “Step off, Mister!” which is going to be the highlight of any of these matches. Grade: N/A It wasn’t actually a match and thank goodness for that.
![](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn%3AANd9GcQC4CqBDtQUC-pidEH2d_X2jb-PrvojT6KtaACTNUuN-0ZSeABA&usqp=CAU) Ivory vs Debra – June 8, 1999 Nicole Bass walks to ringside immediately as we get some shitty hair grabbing offense from Debra, who is wearing platform boots for this. Ivory chokes her with her scarf & snap mares her down a few times. As the takes the scarf & chokes Ivory as the ref is distracted by Jeff Jarrett & Nicole pops in and chokes Debra, so Ivory just covers her for the title. Grade: DUD Garbage. Pure Garbage. I stopped watching my WCW squash matches for this shit, Woodridge. You owe me.
![](https://s1.dmcdn.net/v/N7QT81RD8CavtppZt/x1080) Ivory vs Moolah – October 25, 1999 Moolah won the title the night prior and was in the middle of a celebration as Ivory ran down & broke a cane over Mae Young. Ref jumps in the ring as Ivory gets a backslide for 2, then drills Moolah with a clothesline & Moolah falls like a mannequin to give Ivory the 3. She hits Mae with the title post match & Mae tumbled over the top rope. Grade: DUD It was an impromptu match and it sucked. But Ivory waffling Moolah with that clothesline was something else. Seriously Woodridge, you owe me.
![](https://i1.wp.com/i.imgur.com/Iihtc1b.gif?w=696) Harvey Wippleman vs The Kat – January 31, 2000 This was a Snow Bunny Match, so a pit with snow. We had Luna, Ivory, Jackie, Moolah, Mae & I think BB. I’m not recapping this shit. Harvey Wippleman in drag won the title after he rolled up Kat. Grade: MINUS 5 STARS This was where we were at in women’s wrestling in 2000, folks. Woodridge, I demand you watch some garbage wrestling & review them to make it up to me. 5 Dollar Wrestling, you need to watch Freight Train vs Big Donnie, then we might be even.
![](https://www.wwenetworknews.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Screenshot-20-e1534831259153.jpg) Lita vs Stephanie McMahon – August 21, 2000 Rock is the special referee and Trips & Angle all ringside for this, the first women’s main event in RAW history (despite WWE history telling us it’s Trish vs Lita in 04). Lita with a hurricanrana that Stephanie sells pretty damn well as Kurt distracts Rock & Trips wipes out Lita. Hardys make the save & brawl with Kurt and Trips as Stephanie takes over with boots in the corner. Atrocious forearms by the Billion Dollar Princess, but she does hit a monkey flip that wasn’t bad. Steph hits a DDT that was actually impressive for 2, the resorts to slaps. Lita hits her head scissors & a clothesline (they are moving in slow motion here, but it’s a classic compared to matches we’ve seen) and a bulldog for 2. Lita hits a snap suplex & goes to the corner, Kurt trips her & the Hardys brawl with Kurt & Trips again. Kurt grabs the title & hands it to Steph, but Rock sees it & gets his ass kicked by The Great One. Trips wipes out Rock, but Kurt goes to hit him with the title & Rock ducks, so Trips gets hit. Rock Bottom on Kurt and a SPINEBUSTER ON STEPH!! Lita goes to the top, MOONSAULT for the 3 count as the crowd explodes. Grade: *** This was done to perfection. Stephanie never actually wrestled & all things considered, she did great. The main event players were involved, the crowd went wild, the show ended with Lita on the Hardy’s shoulders title held high. Perfect booking. It’s not a 5 Star classic by any means, but there’s more to it than actual wrestling.
I'm going to break up the other titles a lot more, but honestly, I just wanted to get past those women's matches as some of those were a friggin struggle.

Interesting that the The Allied Powers vs. The Blu Brothers got a WrestleMania XI spot, but the fantastic Nakano/Blayze match had to air the night after. This would have guaranteed at least one good match on the PPV.

Interesting that the The Allied Powers vs. The Blu Brothers got a WrestleMania XI spot, but the fantastic Nakano/Blayze match had to air the night after. This would have guaranteed at least one good match on the PPV. Diesel vs HBK was really good, but mainly due to Shawn selling his ass off for his boy. Also LT Bammer was way better than it had any right to be. Rest of the card was a Monday Night RAW (or even Action Zone) episode.

Yeah, I'm unfair on that show. Shawn/Diesel wasn't terrible and Bam Bam/LT was decent overall. Even Owen and Yoko vs. The Smokin Gunns was fairly decent.

So far so good Randomone. Now I have to see that Alundra Blayze match.
I am not apologizing for this. My idea was for the singles world championship only, as in the WWF title. What you are doing is typical Randomone insanity.

What you are doing is typical Randomone insanity. Haha, I read your request as every title change in RAW and cut it down to the singles (minus Hardcore). I didn't realize you meant just World Title changes! That's like 9 matches total! My lack of reading skills bites me in the ass again! Eh, we've made it through the rough stuff already. Luckily the other changes won't make me want to jump through a window like most of the Women's Title matches did. Definitely check out Madusa and Bull. 1995 and on RAW, which were usually garbage episodes during that time.

European Title The British Bulldog vs Owen Hart – February 26, 1997 Here we go; first ever European champion will be decided as tag partners collide! Bulldog beat Mankind & Vader, while Owen beat Flash Funk & his brother Bret (in a match I have no recollection of). This was from Germany and Bulldog is full on babyface, shaking people’s hands as he makes his way to the ring. Lock up & clean break by Bulldog as they do a fantastic sequence of flips & reversals with each countering wrist locks & arm bars. Monkey flip by Owen, but Bulldog cartwheels out. Double boots shove Owen down, but he kips up & we have a stalemate. Slingshot by Davey sends Owen to the floor as he holds the ropes open for his partner and Owen reluctantly steps in. It’s all Davey working the arm from there, continuing to get the best of Owen, grounding him as he gets a crucifix for a near fall, then tries for his suplex, but Owen counters, tries for an enzugiri, but Davey ducks & slaps on a surfboard. Owen grabs the ref to get free as Bulldog goes back to the arm. Owen gets free, charges & gets monkey flipped this time, but he quickly sends Bulldog outside & holds the ropes open for him. Sportsmanship from the tag champs as Davey grabs a headlock; Owen gets free, does a leap frog & fakes a leg injury, suckering Bulldog in as he looks for a Sharpshooter, but Davey powers out. Owen with a wheel kick & shows his leg is fine as he picks apart Davey before slapping on a chin lock. Bulldog gets free, but eats a knee to the ribs as Owen targets the midsection, booting Davey to the floor. Davey recovers, gets a sunset flip back inside for 2, but Owen knocks him down again. We get a stupid RAW Rewind involving Triple H & Bret, who have nothing to do with this match. Back from break and Owen has a Camel Clutch. Bulldog slowly gets up & hits an Electric Chair, but Owen answers with a neckberaker & legdrop off the second for 2. Davey fights out of a headlock, but Owen throws headbutts & goes for a superplex, but Davey floats over 1…2…NO! Running clotheslines by Davey, who hits a stalling suplex for 2. Owen takes a chest corner buckle, then crotched in the ropes, Davey tries for a suplex, but Owen floats over, German for 1…2…NO! Owen tries floating over in the corner, but Bulldog catches him, tries for a powerslam, but Owen holds the ropes, gets a cross body, Davey rolls through 1…2…NO! Enzugiri by Owen as Davey flip bumps. This is awesome! Owen locks on the Sharpshooter as Davey crawls to the ropes & the crowd pops. Owen looks for a Tombstone, but Bulldog floats over, holds on, POWERSLAM 1…2…OWEN KICKS OUT!! Davey argues as Owen hops on his shoulders for a victory roll ala Mania 10, but Bulldog rolls through it & gets the 1…2…3!! Post match, Owen & Davey shake hands as they raise all their titles & Owen is slow to let go of the European title (the little things, dude, I love it). Grade: ****1/2 This was great when I saw it as a 10 year old, it was great when I watched it years later, it’s still great & will always be great. WWF was still in that transition from goofy New Generation to Getting Our Asses Kicked So Badly We Need to Switch It Up. So this stands out still as a tremendous back & forth match. We didn’t get high flying, we didn’t get a boring snoozer, we got a fantastic story told by family members. This was fantastic & by far and away the best European Title Match in history (which isn’t saying much, but you get what I mean).
![](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/NVPe5VPLCac/hqdefault.jpg) HHH vs HBK – December 11, 1997 So this was a comedy match. They teased dissention & started hitting the ropes like morons for a minute as Trips did a “splash” on HBK to win the title. DX shenanigans and Shawn sold more for Hunter than he did for some people. Grade: N/A I can’t actually grade this, but it was a funny spot at the time because it was DX making a fool out of Sgt. Slaughter. This was also the same place Shawn lost his smile, so the irony there.
![](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/bf/bd/96/bfbd96d899538a8f60efa42fe521dc6a.jpg) Owen Hart vs “Trip-Dust” – January 20, 1998 So Hunter had a knee injury, so Goldust came out dressed as him (Luna was Chyna and it was creepy how similar she was) so Owen & he had a match. Goldust had a giant fake nose, which popped me as it was a solid detail. Cross body off the top by Owen gets 2, but Goldust hit a lariat, then a Triple H knee drop for 2. Owen tries fighting back, but Goldy rakes the eyes, snap mare & an extended rest hold. He lets go finally to make the cover for 2 as the fake nose is still miraculously on as Owen gets a roll up for 2. We go to break with Goldy working Owen’s leg, but come back to Owen hitting 10 punches in the corner and an enzugiri. Up top, Owen hits a missile dropkick, kips up & gets clocked in the back with a crutch by Luna. Goldust tries for a Pedigree, but Owen pulls his legs out & gets the Sharpshooter for the win. While this was technically not Triple H, Sgt. Slaughter says the title change stands since he wanted to stick it to DX. Grade: * This was a standard 7 minute match with a commercial in it, so nothing that impressive. The fake nose was the star honestly. There’s not much more to say about this one. Owen wins the title from Triple H, but not really. It just helped further their feud for the next few months.
![](https://statics.sportskeeda.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/3-1458400806-500.jpg) HHH vs Owen Hart – March 16, 1998 This was an impromptu match & Owen had a bad ankle. It went less than a minute and Chyna hit Owen in the leg with a bat to lead to the finish. Grade: N/A Again, it’s not really a match per se as it really set up their Mania match more than anything else.
![](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/99/13/c1/9913c1e68c84d760301d287d76953ff9.jpg) D’Lo Brown vs HHH – July 14, 1998 Rock is cornering D’Lo and Chyna with Trips as Hunter gets dropped with a back elbow as D’Lo does his head swivel, only for Trips to drop him with a clothesline. He tries for an early Pedigree, but D’Lo fights free, only to get sent outside. Ref is distracted by the Rock as Chyna levels D’Lo with a forearm as Trips sends him back inside. Trips misses a clothesline & walks right into the Low Down for 2 as D’Lo chokes away in the corner. Rock with a cheap shot as D’Lo gloats too long & Hunter hits his knee drops. Crotch chop, clothesline 1…2…kick out as he just punches away at the challenger. The Rock distracts Hunter, so Chyna sends him into the ring post as the ref has become distracted by Chyna & Mark Henry at the entrance ramp. Rock jumps in the ring, Rock Bottom on Hunter as D’Lo covers him; ref turns around, sprints to the ring & counts the 3. D’Lo wins his first singles title and The Rock celebrates with him up the ramp. Grade: *3/4 DX vs Nation feud was at a boiling point and with Hunter going for the IC title held by Rock, he didn’t need the European Title anymore, so putting it on D’Lo was a smart move. This gave other members something to feud over. The match was solid, it got the heels over & finally DX didn’t come out on top.
![](https://static3.thesportsterimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/xpac-1.jpg) X-Pac vs D’Lo Brown – September 15, 1998 They trade a series of reversals immediately as D’Lo hits a snap powerslam for 2, then right hands sending Kid to the corner. Bodyslam/Legdrop combo and a little head wiggle for good measure as he takes Kid’s head off with a lariat for 2. D’Lo misses a corner splash & Kid hits a spin kick, but misses a Bronco Buster & crotches himself. Another lariat & another 2 for the champ, who hits a forearm off the top for 2 as well. A portly fan ringside is crotch chopping like a son of a bitch as D’Lo goes for a springboard moonsault, but misses, despite it looking pretty good. Spinning heel kick by Kid, who hits his flipping clothesline & the Bronco Buster. He charges out of the corner, but D’Lo hits a Lo Down for 1…2…NO! He goes up top for another one, but as he dives, he dives into a X-Factor for the 1…2…3!! Grade: **1/2 This was fun, albeit way too quick match with two young guns & it popped the crowd. These two had really good chemistry and had a nice little rivalry over the month of September. They had a solid PPV match I think on Breakdown (or Judgment Day, I can’t remember) that I’d recommend too, since it got more time.
![](https://img.bleacherreport.net/img/images/photos/003/007/063/f6489e2c729e35766d6ff5ad657f943d_crop_north.jpg?h=533&w=800&q=70&crop_x=center&crop_y=top) D’Lo Brown vs X-Pac – September 29, 1998 D’Lo eats a wheel kick, despite trying to attack early, but he answers with a snap powerslam. Mark Henry & Chyna are in the corners for their respective running buddies as D’Lo hits his leg drop & leg lariat for 2. Bodyslam & rest hold by the challenger as Pac fights back with a back suplex, but misses a leg drop of his own. Pretty sloppy diving forearm off the second by D’Lo for 2 as he slams Pac down, then goes up top, missing a Lo Down splash, giving Pac time to recover. Wild wheel kick by the champion, who follows up with a flipping lariat & the Bronco Buster. The same combo of moves he hit the last match with these two. Mark Henry hooks the leg as D’Lo takes the ref. Pac tries a slingshot cross body, but Henry catches & posts him. He tosses Pac back inside as D’Lo hits the Lo Down for the 3 count & the title. Grade: *3/4 Not as good as their match a few weeks prior, especially the interference ending, but it was solid for what it was. It helped further the Chyna/Henry storyline more than anything else.
![](https://s2.dmcdn.net/v/EJpMl1Qnv9BcpCQMo/x1080) Kane & Shane McMahon vs HHH & X-Pac – February 15, 1999 European Title is on the line in this tag match as Kane beats down Trips before tagging Shane, who bolts once Trips looks at him, so he tags back in Kane. DX tries double teaming the Big Red Machine, but he wipes them both out. Until DX hits Total Elimination on Kane for 1 as Pac is launched outside & cheap shotted by Shane. Pac chases him but gets clocked by a Chyna clothesline. Kane presses Pac back inside as Shane mounts him with punches & a terrible elbow. Tags to Kane & Trips as Hunter hits his knees, then eats a Kane boot. Top rope clothesline by Kane as Shane wants the tag, so he hits some jabs until getting caught & thrown to the DX corner. Pac tags in & crushes him with kicks until Chyna grabs a hold of him, only for Shane to collide with her. Bronco Buster cut off as Kane hits a choke slam out of the corner. Kane & Trips brawl ringside as Chyna grabs the Euro Title & gives it to Shane, who pops Pac with it, makes the cover as the ref counts 3 and Shane’s the champ. Grade: * The actual wrestling itself was nothing, but this completely served its purpose. Shane played the perfect pussy heel who headed for the hills once he smelled trouble. Chyna cost DX the title and this also set up Kane vs Trips and Pac vs Shane at Mania well too. Ultimately leading to Triple H leaving DX.
![](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/ff/17/94/ff17945a8f4d402d94dbfe31020189fe.jpg) Eddie Guerrero vs Chris Jericho – April 3, 2000 Eddie gets launched face first into the corner as Jericho hits a flap jack, tries for a powerbomb, but Eddie rolls through with a sunset flip. Eddie poses for Chyna ringside, then stomps on Y2J’s face. Flying back elbow by Latino Heat as he slaps on a sleeper, but Jericho jawbreaks out of it. They spill outside where Jericho gets slammed in the steps & we get a chop battle that Jericho wins, so Eddie pokes him in the eye. Back inside, Eddie blows a kiss to Chyna, then hits a brainbuster & goes to the top. Eddie dives, but rolls through, only to eat a snap powerslam. Jericho fights back with a bulldog for 2. Drop toehold by Jericho sends Eddie into Tim White, who takes a header outside as Jericho hits his revolution powerbombs & a Lionsault, but no ref. Chyna jumps in & counts the 3, raising Jericho’s hand, which he buys like a dummy, so she punts him & drops him with a DDT, putting Eddie on top. She tosses the ref inside as he counts the 3 count and Eddie wins the title with help from his Mamacita! Eddie can’t believe it as Chyna does a little shimmy & he knows he’s won her over! Grade: ** 9 times out of 10 you’ll see better Jericho vs Guerrero wrestling matches, but this was storyline driven & involved Chyna more than the actual wrestling. This was the culmination of Guerrero trying to win over Chyna and the birth of Latino Heat & his Mamacita. This was great stuff. Even if it did make Jericho look like a dummy, just getting his hand raised by Chyna & falling for it.
![](https://cdn3.whatculture.com/images/2017/10/fbac6c7d1c914c01-600x338.png) William Regal vs Al Snow – October 16, 2000 Sadly this was the end of Al Snow’s reign of dressing as someone different each week from different countries. Danny Zukko from Greece, a pretty racist Asian costume, German, this time he was dressed as an Englishman asking “what doth everybody want?” “HEAD!” “Smashing!” Regal attacks immediately as he tries for a suplex, but Snow gets an arm drag. Forearm & spinning hangman neckbreaker for 2 by Regal as he fires off uppercuts & a jumping double knee. Hair slam gets a 1 count, so Regal fires off uppercuts & knees some more as Snow attempts fighting back, but Regal hits a suplex for 2. It’s an uppercut clinic here as he lowers his head & Snow gets a neckbreaker. Snap jabs by the champ as he connects with a clothesline & back drop, but Regal answers with a knee, they block each other’s shots as Snow hits a German suplex for 2. Al goes to the top for a moonsault, but Regal with the knees up, he slaps on the Regal Stretch as Snow submits & we have a new champ! Grade: *3/4 Match should’ve gone a lot longer, but 3 minutes, for what it was, it was really solid. No comedy, straight wrestling. Unfortunately, Regal was handed the title and we went right to the back for a Trips/Kurt segment.
![](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/roSPifQHnUM/maxresdefault.jpg) William Regal vs Crash Holly – December 4, 2000 Crash won the title at Rebellion the week prior, so Regal went on the attack immediately with a back elbow & forearms. Crash fights back with a leaping lariat for 2, but Regal rakes the eyes & sends him outside. Regal continues his onslaught with a back suplex for 2 as Crash again fights back, but misses a back elbow. Crash with a hurricanrana & bodyslam as he goes up top & hits a missile dropkick for 2. He wants a tilt a whirl head scissors, but Regal slams him down & gets the Regal Stretch for the win. Post match, Regal puts the Stretch on Molly for good measure as Hardcore Holly makes the save & we have our first program for Regal & his newly won title. Grade: **1/4 Very quick 4 minute match, but they fit in a whole bunch of stuff and ruthless Regal ruled.
![](https://cdn3.whatculture.com/images/2015/09/QjZiMvJm-600x338.jpg) Test vs William Regal – January 22, 2001 Test bolts to the ring & hits a back drop, sending Regal outside; where Test is out after & sends him back inside. Regal throws forearms & uppercuts and a double knee to the head. Test hits a big boot that barely clips Regal, slams him down & hits a top rope elbow for the win & the title. Grade: 1/4* Super quick match, under 2 minutes, but compared to some other matches in this, they at least did some moves. And I can’t in good faith give Regal a DUD rating.
![](https://img.bleacherreport.net/img/images/photos/003/139/966/5d01e4def5fdd3a4463179fc84953c47_crop_north.jpg?1415199903&w=3072&h=2048) Hurricane vs Matt Hardy – August 27, 2001 It was all Matt to start as Helms is already on the ropes, but Helms hits a superkick to take control. Up top goes the superhero & hits a cross body for 2. Helms poses, tries for a powerbomb, but Matt spins it into a leg sweep. Big back drop & a leg drop off the second for 2. Matt looks for a back superplex, but Helms falls down onto him. Ivory pops up & wipes out Lita with a pipe & hits Matt with it to with Helms taking the ref. He stumbles back & Helms hits the Eye of the Hurricane for the title. Grade: * They got their moves in, but it wasn’t much. Ivory was the main story here, not the title.
![](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/-vPwQ5SZpT0/maxresdefault.jpg) Bradshaw vs Hurricane – October 22, 2001 Helms keeps posing & tries to hit shoulder blocks, but he just bounces off JBL. Mighty Molly distracts Bradshaw outside as Helms tries for a big cross body, but JBL catches him (after dropping him that is) as he tosses him back inside & Helms is bumping like he’s Curt Hennig. Super kick to the shoulder by Helms & dropkick to the knee as he hits a SHINING WIZARD!! He tries a suplex to get some laughs from the crowd as JBL hits the suplex instead. Crucifix neckbreaker by JBL as Molly goes to the top & tries a cross body, but JBL actually catches her & boots Helms in the process. Fall away slam on Molly & a Clothesline From Hell off a failed lariat by Helms gets JBL the win & his first singles title. Grade: 3/4 * The match was nothing, but Helms sold like a mofo and Molly was great too. I can’t stand Bradshaw, but he played the monster well in this, even if he didn’t catch Helms with that dive.
![](https://cdn3.whatculture.com/images/2018/05/87bd83b521001a67-600x338.jpg)
Spike Dudley vs William Regal – April 8, 2002 Regal hid his brass knucks in the turnbuckle, then argued with the ref as Spike sprinted out, grabbed the knucks, clocked Regal & pinned him in 3 seconds, literally 3 seconds. Grade: N/A Regal sold it like death & that’s really all you can say about this.
![](https://www.twm.news/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/european-championship.jpg) William Regal vs Spike Dudley – May 6, 2002 Regal pretty much goaded Spike into this, despite having a badly sprained ankle & could barely. Spike leapt on his back & Regal shrugged him off, snapped the ankle a bit before slamming Spike into the ropes, then applied a half crab while standing on Spike’s neck for the submission. 37 seconds. Grade: N/A Again, not much to say, Regal got his revenge from last month. Badass Regal ruled.
![](https://www.wwe.com/f/styles/wwe_16_9_s/public/2018/12/20020708_hardy_regal--11aa7e23a55e21d581b52c5461a04211.jpg) Jeff Hardy vs William Regal – July 8, 2002 Springboard cross body out of the corner immediately by Jeff, who goes to the other corner & hits a Whisper in the Wind for 2. Regal sends Jeff outside & targets the back and neck, then slams him chest first onto the side of the ring. Tiger Suplex gets Regal 2 as Jeff staggers through the ropes gets a sunset flip for a near fall, but Regal fights back with his necktie neckbreaker for 2. Kitchen sink knee gets another close 2 as Regal slaps on a neck hold as Jeff fights out & eats a back elbow. Butterfly suplex countered into an arm drag by Jeff, who hits a flying clothesline, but Regal hits a knee to the ribs & tosses Hardy outside. He tries untying a buckle pad, but Jeff runs in & hits a sleeper slam, then goes up & hits a Swanton flush for the win & title. Grade: *3/4 Well, Jeff hit only 4 moves this entire match (first two dives, sleeper slam & swanton) as the rest was all Regal, but Regal’s offense is so awesome I graded this probably higher than it should. It was a completely one sided match.
![](https://cdn3.whatculture.com/images/2016/05/97f9246a5d9b4eb7-600x338.jpg) Rob Van Dam vs Jeff Hardy – July 22, 2002 This was the final European Title match as it was a Unification match with the IC Title. It was also a Ladder Match, so this is going to be something. They start, ironically, with chain wrestling & counters and have a stalemate. Head scissors by Jeff as RVD falls to the floor, so Hardy grabs a ladder, but a baseball slide by RVD sends it into the chest of Jeff. Moonsault off the apron by RVD, who quickly goes for the title, but Jeff shoves him off. Jeff does his rad monkey flip counter where he just sits down onto Van Dam’s legs, tries to climb, but RVD knocks him off. Another stalemate as both men grab ladder & start slamming them into each other RVD hits a wheel kick, but lands on a ladder in the process. Cartwheel moonsault onto the ladder by RVD, who starts to climb, but Hardy hits a leg sweep off the ladder. Places a ladder onto RVD & hits a Swanton, messing himself up in the process. Both men start to climb as RVD hits a sunset flip off the ladder!! Rolling Thunder onto the ladder is the follow up as Van Dam climbs slowly, so Jeff sets up a ladder & climbs as well, but RVD superkicks the ladder & Jeff takes a crazy fall. FIVE STAR FROG SPLASH off the ladder onto Hardy as RVD climbs & grabs the IC title as the ladder falls onto Jeff & that caps the European Title history. Grade: *** Quick, under 7 minute ladder match, but they fit in a lot of stuff, even if it didn’t really mean anything. I could watch these two fight under any circumstance during their WWE days & this one was solid.

The European title seemed to almost be WWE’s version of the TV title. That’s a lot of title changes on RAW (we aren’t including Smackdown in any of these. Probably a handful there as well). No disrespect but I never got or cared for D-Lo Brown however if a title was on the line for TV, I might care a bit more. I’d rather WWE have a TV title rather than a 24/7 title that has zero prestige.

I’d rather WWE have a TV title rather than a 24/7 title that has zero prestige. It was really an afterthought almost immediately. Shawn won it from Bulldog, but the title was primarily an accessory for Chyna to carry while Shawn touted the World Title. It got lost in the shuffle big time as the years went on. Especially during the Invasion time period where they had 10 friggin titles on the show between WWF & WCW. Title changes meant absolutely nothing.

Part 1 of the IC Title History ![](https://www.wwe.com/f/styles/wwe_16_9_s/public/2018/12/19930517_hbk_marty--e8aaf6691213d1197babd022120a6396.jpg) Marty Jannetty vs Shawn Michaels – May 17, 1993 HBK with a cheap shot in the corner kicks things off, but Marty fights back & gets a school boy for 2. Sunset flip gets Marty another 2 as Shawn creates some distance. Marty floats over a hip toss & clotheslines Shawn to the floor, then baseball slide, skin the cat & slingshot dive as Marty is on fire early. Back inside Marty ducks a superkick & gets a hip toss and head scissors as Shawn gets out, but gets back dropped & takes his corner bump that sends him outside. He grabs the belt & wants to bail, but Mr. Perfect is at the entrance to stop him as we head to break. We’re back & Shawn is slingshotted back inside, but tries for another head scissors & Shawn turns it into a Hot Shot. He lights up Marty with jabs in the corner & chokes away, slowing the pace with a rest hold, but releases it & dropkicks Marty down. He tries for another, but Marty catches him & slingshots Shawn into the corner face first. He unloads punches & hits a flying back elbow as he hits a snap powerslam for 2. Leaping cross body off the top 1…2…NO! They trade roll ups & near falls, but Shawn hits a superkick as he starts jaw jacking with Perfect, who throws his towel in his face, Shawn stumbles back, gets rolled up by Marty 1…2…3!!! Manhattan Center explodes as Marty celebrates like crazy & hugs Perfect as Shawn is furious. Grade: ***1/2 Excellent, fast paced match, with very minimal downtime. It was a shock title change as Marty had returned earlier in the show & this furthered the Shawn/Perfect feud as well. It was exactly what you’d want in a match like this.
![](https://i.makeagif.com/media/4-08-2016/noBeGU.gif) Razor Ramon vs Rick Martel – September 27, 1993 They take turns slapping each other, then what do you do after that, grab a hammerlock & counter wrestle, of course. Martel gets a drop toe hold & paint brushes Razor as he does jumping jacks. Razor reverses a whip, but misses a splash as Martel unloads rights, however he leaps & Razor hits a fall away slam to the outside. Martel jumps back in & applies a front face lock, but Razor throws him down & goes for the arm, which he works into the break. Back from commercial & Martel is working over Razor outside the ring, bodyslamming him as he poses inside & wants a countout win, but Razor slides back in. Back suplex by The Model, who tries to pin Razor with feet on the ropes, but Hebner catches him. Razor lowers his head for a back drop, but Martel boots him & sends Ramon into the corner. Boston Crab is applied, but Razor gets the ropes. Razor charges & eats a side suplex as Martel reapplies the Boston Crab in the center of the ring, but Razor pushes up & they trade pin attempts. Both up & the Model hits a dropkick for 2, but misses a wild shot as Razor tries for a back suplex out of the corner, but Martel knocks him off, hits a cross body, but Razor rolls through 1…2…NO! Both up & Martel hits a clothesline and a 2 count. Martel lowers his head, but Razor puts on the brakes & powers The Model up & hits a Razor’s Edge for the 1…2…3! Grade: *** Both guys were the final 2 in a battle royal the week prior, so the winner of this got the vacant IC Title and it was a pretty damn good TV match. I forgot Martel was still around in late 93, but he was still solid as ever. Razor obviously needed to win this, but Martel was the perfect choice as he was an established heel who worked mid card feuds for the most part, so it made sense.

They brawl right from the start with Goldy doing a 360 off a lariat & a snap powerslam get Savio 2 as Goldust bails to the floor. Savio out after as they head back in & Goldy cracks him with that drop down punch. Splash in the corner as we get a camera cut to fans, so I assume Goldust did something with his tongue to Savio, because he’s super pissed & attacks Goldust, who gets a mule kick low blow. Goldust targets the left leg for minutes before going to the Camel Clutch…for minutes…and minutes. We then get an Ultimate Warrior inset promo on Goldust 7 minutes into this match, because that’s what was needed, Warrior rambling. Goldust tries jumping down on the back of Savio, but he spins to his back, gets a knee up & Goldust lands junk first. Savio can’t recover because of the bad knee as we get a shot of Marlena looking all kinds of hot as Goldust tries to post Savio’s legs, but Savio pulls him in & Goldust eats the post. We then see Steve Austin & Ted Dibiase show up at the entrance way as Savio nearly gets a small package pin back inside. Vega takes a hard chest bump out of the corner as Goldust tries a Curtain Call, but Vega floats over, lands on the bad leg, but hits a super kick with the good leg 1…2…NO! Vega gets a school boy for another 2, lowers his head as Goldust slams him down. Marlena jumps on the apron as Savio gets a roll up, but Austin waffles him with the Million Dollar Title as Marlena strategically gets off the apron in her short dress as Goldust pins Savio for the title. Grade: **1/2 I wish like 3 minutes wasn’t wasted on a Camel Clutch, especially since Goldust had worked the leg & the Camel Clutch played no role whatsoever in the rest of the match, but the leg did. The finish was a continuation of the Vega/Austin feud, so I understand it and Goldust needed the title, so this was fine.

Pat Patterson was the referee as Faarooq was in his prime helmet wearing days as Mero hits an early head scissors & roll up for 2 as Faarooq hits an enzugiri response, but Mero hits a clothesline sending Faarooq outside. Somersault dive to the floor as Mero quickly throws him back inside & nails a springing moonsault for 2, but Faarooq dumps him to the floor & dishes out clubbing blows & a diving shoulder block that sends Mero crashing into the railing. Sable scatters as Sunny gloats while Faarooq tosses Mero back inside and we get an On The Phone with Ahmed, which is quite something. Snap powerslam gets Faarooq 2 as he gets a Samoan Drop off the second rope 1…2…NO! Patterson is counting at a snail’s pace, which makes Earl Hebner’s counts look warp speed in comparison. Sunny gets ejected after getting caught choking Mero, who gets a backslide for 2, then gets his head taken off. I have no idea what happens the next few minutes as there’s a fan with an ONITA sign and I’m distracted by the awesomeness of it. Anyways Mero hits a hurricanrana off the 2nd rope for 2 as we get a double clothesline double down. Sunny then sneaks down ringside with a purse as she & Sable get in each other’s faces CAT FIGHT IN 1996!! Patterson separates them (or he wants to get involved maybe?) as Faarooq grabs the purse, swings & misses as Mero grabs it & clocks Faarooq! He hides the evidence, goes up top & hits the Wild Thing for the 1…2…3!! Sunny grabs the purse & we see a brick was in it. Mr. Perfect jumps off commentary to celebrate with Sable & Mero and it ultimately leads to our next match. Grade: **3/4 This was far better than I remembered it being. There were a few rest holds, but I dug this match overall. Despite the slow counts by Patterson, the high risk moves by Mero, the interaction with Sunny & Sable, the fun finish, I liked it. It’s not a classic, but it was a fun little match.
![](https://www.wwe.com/f/styles/og_image/public/2018/12/19961021_hhh--738d69b72f12a073cc1e54664140fed8.jpg) HHH vs Marc Mero – October 21, 1996 Mr. Perfect was supposed to wrestle Trips, but was “attacked” earlier in the night. So Perfect convinced Marc Mero to fight for him & put his IC title on the line in the process (gee, I’m sure nothing fishy is up here?). Mero works the arm & dropkicks Trips outside, tries for a somersault dive, but Trips pulls Sable in front of him. They trade pin attempts back inside as Trips hits a tilt a whirl back breaker for 2. Snap suplex as Trips hits (actually misses by a mile) hits knee drop for another near fall. Harley Race knee gets another near fall as that’s like 5 near falls for Hunter in the last few minutes as Mero takes a hard corner buckle. Mero hooks Hunter’s legs & slingshots him to the corner, school boy 1…2…Hunter kicks out & clips the leg of Mero as we go to break. Back from commercial & Mero really screws up his slingshot leg drop back inside, but he sort of hits it. He goes up top for a Wild Thing, but Hunter shoves the ref into the ropes & Mero crotches himself. Trips gets knocked off the ropes as Mero hits a springing moonsault 1…2…NO! We get a ref bump and Mr. Perfect pops up from commentary as Triple H gets a chair. Sable grabs the chair from Hunter, then Perfect grabs it from both of them as PERFECT HITS MERO!! Sable is in tears screaming at Marc to get up as Hunter hits the Pedigree on a prone Mero for the 3 count and the title. Grade: **1/4 Everyone not named Marc Mero & Sable could see this swerve coming a mile away and unfortunately the pay off after this never happened as Perfect was gone like 2 weeks later, so we don’t know how far these two could’ve gone together. The match itself was fine, it had its moments, but it was just ok for the most part. I did love the acting from Sable, who sold it perfectly.
![](https://statics.sportskeeda.com/editor/2018/08/32b61-1533909978-500.jpg) Rocky Maivia vs HHH – February 13, 1997 Hard to believe Rock was only 4 months into his WWF run at this point. That said, this was your standard, blueprint wrestling match as it obviously came nowhere close to the magic these two would have just a few years later. Trips looks so small here, before he ballooned up into a massive muscle guy in just 2 short years (funny how that works, eh?). We get some solid back & forth counter wrestling early, but then the rest holds start and there’s A LOT of them. The most noteworthy move that wasn’t a rest hold was a vertical suplex by Hunter that led to his knee drop for a near fall half way through this match. Sleeper applied as he’s taken 90% of the match up to this point. 10 minutes in Rocky mounts his comeback with rights & a back drop, then goes to the top, hitting his cross body, but Hunter rolls through for 2. Facebuster & neckbreaker combo by Trips gets another 2 as HE HITS A PILEDRIVER flush for yet another near fall. He goes at Hebner who jaw jacks back (of course) as he sets Rocky up in the corner & hits a superplex for 2. Hunter wants the Pedigree, but Rocky collapses. He goes for it again, but again, Rocky falls to the mat, so Hunter poses. Third try, Rocky catches a small package for the 1…2…3!! Crowd pops big as Rocky looks legit gassed as he can’t believe he won the title. Grade: ** That’s a generous rating because I liked the finish & the opening sequence of counters, but I’m sorry, this match was a snoozer. It was slow, just nothing happening & could’ve been cut in half on time if this was what they were going for. I get Rocky having to mount a comeback, but 10 minutes honestly felt like 20. Then again, like I said, 4 months in, I don’t know what I was expecting, Rocky performed & sold well, but it was boring to me. Thankfully we’d get some all time classics with these two in the future, but this was an actually good first chapter in a feud that’d define the year 2000 as it’d show how far both men will have come.
![](https://s1.dmcdn.net/v/PwSKU1SnQtAz34mdI/x1080) Owen Hart vs Rocky Maivia – April 28, 1997 Bret & Bulldog are up at the ramp with Owen attacking at the bell. He tries for a belt shot, but Rock cuts him off and it’s weird seeing Rocky hit his offense to barely any reaction. Dropkick by Rock, who hits a powerslam for 2. Then its arm bar after arm bar by Rocky until Owen dumps him to the floor & nails a baseball slide. Owen gets a 2 back inside & slaps on a chin lock, then grapevines & slams down on the leg. Modified figure four as Rock slowly fights out as Owen picks apart the leg for minutes before Rocky fights back with round the world DDT. Both slow to get up as its Rocky who hits some punches & a version of the ROCK BOTTOM early in his career for a 2 count. Rocky charges at Owen in the corner, but Owen hits his spinning heel kick as he goes up top, but gets cut off. Big back suplex gets another 2 count as Owen floats over a suplex attempt, gets a roll up 1…2…3!! Bulldog is jumping around like a school girl at the stage as Bret is proud of his brother. Owen hands the title to Bret as they wheel Bret around for a victory lap in his wheel chair as they have a group hug. Grade: * The celebration was great, but this match sucked & was boring as all hell. Rest hold after rest hold and right out of the gate by Rocky, then Owen worked the leg with rest holds. Barely anything in this match happened of interest and that pains me to say because Owen was awesome & Rocky, despite still being green, was fine in the ring. We got an early Rock Bottom, so there was that, but pretty much only that.
![](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/YzAdhMahB7c/hqdefault.jpg) Ken Shamrock vs X-Pac – October 12, 1998 The finals of a one night tournament that really made Shamrock look like a killer, win the title & join the Corporation. The matches did last only like 4 minutes each, so it’s not like he went long at all. Pac just beat Mankind and Shamrock attacked, then waited for Pac to recover enough to start the match. DDT, a horrible elbow & snapmare as X-Pac fights back, but gets leveled with a lariat. He drives the elbow to the chest on the apron, the Dragon Sleeper from the floor to the inside. Pac really selling the neck as he throws a wild spin kick & lands on his head in the process. He wants a Bronco Buster, but his neck won’t let him run, so he throws a kick that gets caught & Shamrock gets the Ankle Lock for the win & the title. Grade: 3/4* For being a Final of a one night tournament, this was a sell job by Pac mostly. He was selling the neck great, but in that sense, Shamrock didn’t have to do all that much to win it.
![](https://static3.thesportsterimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Road-Dogg-again-e1459285306207.jpg?q=50&fit=crop&w=740&h=413) Road Dogg vs Val Venis – March 15, 1999 Dogg misses a corner elbow & Val hits some right hands and a spinebuster for 2. Back elbow & elbow drop for another 2 as Dogg throws some rights, only to get powerslammed down. Val already wants the Money Shot, but misses completely. Snap jabs by Dogg, who hits a Shake, Rattle & Roll as someone holds up an “I Love Jennifer Aniston” sign, we all do, dude. Pumphandle slam gets Dogg a 2 as he runs into Val’s boot & he tries to gets his feet on the ropes, but the ref catches him. Val with a butterfly suplex for 2, but Dogg fights back with a boot to the gut & DDT that Val sells perfectly for the shock 3 count! This was during the dumb time where Dogg won the IC Title and Billy won the Hardcore title and they pretty much took each other’s matches at Mania. Grade: * Ending came out of nowhere, but they truly didn’t do all that much. Crowd went nuts for the title switch though.

The Shamrock and Road Dogg IC Title belt was an ugly, oval-shaped piece of garbage. Even the 24/7 belt is nicer.

Very interesting so far to read the matches and who is involved in these tv title changes. IC title so far has held the reputation of having the best matches. Slowed off a bit at the end of part 1 but I feel it may pick back up here.

UPDATE: I looked back at the European Title changes on RAW and there were only 4 more matches from RAW that had European Title changes, so I just reviewed and added them to the last European post. The only one really worth checking out is the Jeff Hardy/RVD quick ladder match.

Goldust vs Road Dogg – March 29, 1999 Ryan Shamrock walks down the ramp to distract both guys as Blue Meanie argues with him. They trade arm bars as Dogg gets a school boy for 2. Goldust rakes the eyes & gets some right hands, tries for Shattered Dreams, but Dogg pulls the ref in front of him, gets free and dishes out rights. Hard buckle by Dogg, who pulls Meanie in the ring & sends him into Goldust in the corner, the bulldogs him head first into the groin of Goldust. Shake, Rattle & Roll jabs, then the knee drop gets 2 as Meanie has the IC Title. Goldust tries a Curtain Call, but Dogg lands on his feet. Goldust sends Dogg into the IC Title Meanie was holding (right in front of the ref) as Goldust pins him for the title. Truly awful. Grade: DUD The finish sucked tremendously and it made the ref look like an idiot. Goldust was so far past his prime at this point, it’s weird they just threw the title on him.
![](https://66.media.tumblr.com/a5e23103d5df07d5ca0dd11ece415bed/tumblr_p7xlnciwRM1wnpcrvo1_400.png) Godfather vs Goldust – April 12, 1999 Godfather hits the Ho Train, hits the ropes, but Goldust backdrops him over the top to the floor. Jump cut in the match as Godfather sends Goldust into an exposed buckle, then hits the Pimp Drop for the 3 count. Crowd explodes as Godfather wins his first title in the WWF! Grade: 1/4* Way too short of a match, but it wasn’t garbage or anything.
![](https://statics.sportskeeda.com/editor/2019/01/1b4fb-15464523473415-800.jpg) Jeff Jarrett vs Godfather – May 25, 1999 Godfather tries a Ho Train splash early, but eats a boot & a flying clothesline by Jeff. Jarrett gets caught & slammed face first in the corner, but lowers his shoulder & Godfather goes tumbling outside. Back inside, Jarrett with a cross body off the top for a 2 count, but tries another & gets caught with a slam for 2 by Godfather. Atomic drop as Godfather revs it up & hits the Ho Train, then a big boot. He signals for the end, but Debra pops up & unleashes the Puppies. Not to be outdone, a Ho jumps on the apron & takes her top off as well. This distracts referee Tim White as Jarrett clocks Godfather with the title & gets the 3. Boobs were the undoing for Godfather. Grade: 1/4* Quarter star for Puppies!!
![](https://i2-prod.liverpoolecho.co.uk/incoming/article8049679.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/DLo-Brown-01.jpg) D’Lo Brown vs Jeff Jarrett – July 27, 1999 These two start going at it, D’Lo gets the upper hand and randomly Tim White steps in between them both to allow Jarrett to take over, which, why?? Anyways Jarrett tries for a dropkick, but D’Lo powerbombs out of it & hits a running powerslam for 2 as Jarrett bails to the floor & demands Debra grab his title. He just suckers D’Lo outside, but his plans are foiled as Brown takes over, sends Jarrett inside, but eats a Double J dropkick. He chokes away & hits a baseball slide right hand, then a single arm DDT, before going to work on the left arm. How do you follow that up, well a sleeper hold of course. D’Lo hulks up out of it, but eats a knee to the gut. Swinging neckbreaker gets Jarrett 2, who gets another rest hold, but D’Lo escapes with a leg lariat, his leg drop for 2, then goes to the corner for 10 punches. We then get a ref bump out of the blue as D’Lo hits a Sky High and here comes Debra, who unleashes the puppies. She also brings in both titles as D’Lo ignores the boobies & smacks Jarrett with the title, covers Jarrett for the 3 to win the IC Title. He’s now the Intercontinental & European champion. Grade: *3/4 Aside from the two rest holds, the match had a lot crammed into the 5 and a half minutes. The finish was fine as it added to the dissention between Jarrett & Debra, even though they’d reconcile at Summerslam where Debra suckered D’Lo and Mark Henry turned on him in the same match. On this night though, D’Lo was on top of the world, arguably his biggest moment in his career.
![](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/9F5pV7FJemo/hqdefault.jpg) Eddie Guerrero vs Chyna vs Kurt Angle – September 4, 2000 Out of these three, Chyna was the IC champ. Attitude Era folks. Anyway, Angle chucks her to the floor as Eddie takes the fights to him, but Angle with an overhead belly to belly for 2. Chyna back in & puts the boots to Kurt as Latino Heat & Mamacit double team the Olympic Hero with a flapjack & suplex. Eddie lets her get the cover for 2 as Kurt hits a clothesline on Chyna, then sends Eddie to the floor as he hits another clothesline on Chyna before taking the fight to Eddie on the floor. Chyna stops him from using a chair as she hits some redemption clotheslines, goes for a 3rd, but Angle with a German suplex. Eddie tries bringing in a chair, but the ref stops him (3 way, No DQ, bro) as Kurt waffles Chyna with the IC Title. Eddie suplexes Kurt over the top to the floor & checks on his Mamacita, but “accidentally” covers her in the process, winning the IC Title. He’s in shock, but has a smirk as Eddie drops the title & checks on Chyna as if nothing happened. He helps Chyna to the back with the IC title behind his back because Eddie fucking ruled. Grade: * The match itself was nothing (I’ve said that like 20 times already it feels like), but Eddie’s post match and how he won the title was classic Latino Heat. This was Lying, Cheating & Stealing Eddie 3 years before it became popular to do so. Mamacita was none the wiser.
![](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/4a2QpqFwPDo/hqdefault.jpg) Chris Benoit vs Chris Jericho – May 8, 2000 HHH was the outside official for this one, so you know he’s getting involved. Standard back & forth early with Jericho missing a Lionsault, but landed on his feet, tried his springboard dropkick, but Benoit sends him to the floor. Trips applauds as Benoit nails a snap suplex on the floor, then hits a hard lariat back inside. Snot rocket shot on Jericho as he hits a stiff back suplex for 2, then a back breaker for 1. Abdominal stretch, but Jericho gets out & we get a slugfest. Slingshot in the corner by Benoit as he lights Jericho up with chops. Benoit shoves down Mike Chioda as Triple H jumps in the ring & gets in Benoit’s face, before punching Chioda. Jericho hits a dropkick for a 2 count, then a school boy for another 2. Trips is now the referee for this as we get rolling German suplexes by Benoit, tries for another, but Jericho rolls out & slaps on the Walls! Benoit tries for the ropes as here comes Stephanie, so Trips starts making googly eyes with her as Benoit taps. Jericho shoves him & gets punched, falling into the Crossface as Trips calls for the bell without Jericho tapping. Post match DX beats down Jericho badly as that’s about it. Grade: *1/2 The match itself was good, but then became shitty with the Triple H garbage. Especially because this ultimately led to nothing with Hunter & Jericho as they didn’t feud until months later. This was mainly so Stephanie could slap Jericho post match. After minutes of a beat down by the McMahon Helmsley regime, finally the Dudleys, Too Cool & Big Show all run out to make the save. I mean, what the hell took them so long? Were they all dancing backstage to Too Cool’s music?
![](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/bVyCI_av3y4/maxresdefault.jpg) HHH vs Jeff Hardy – April 16, 2001 After a shock upset by Hardy to win the title on Smackdown a few days prior, Hunter got his rematch as he had Steph & Jeff had Lita in their corners. Trips attacked early, launching Jeff in the air with a flapjack, hard right hands & a vertical suplex as he connects with the knee drop for 2. He goes for another suplex, but Jeff wiggles free, hits the ropes & runs into a powerslam as Hunter chucks him outside. Rammed into the side of the ring & the steps before heading back in, it’s been all Hunter as Jeff gets some punches before eating a lariat. Jeff fights out a long abdominal stretch & hits a jawbreaker, but Trips with his face buster for 2 as Lita pulls the leg. Steph & Lita get into a chase as Hunter puts a stop to it as Steph takes the ref, as they spill to the floor where Jeff pops Trips with the IC Title. Hunter takes a great bump flying back over the commentator table as Jeff posts him & takes over. He slams Hunter’s big nose into the steps before heading back in for a missile dropkick for 2. Jeff fights out a Pedigree attempt into a backslide 1…2…NO! Tilt a whirl head scissors by Jeff, who tries a Whisper in the Wind, but Hunter moves. Jeff cuts him off in the corner & hits a frankensteiner on Triple H! I don’t know if I’ve ever seen Hunter take that before as Hardy misses a Swanton. We see Matt Hardy watching backstage as he gets brutally attacked by Stone Cold & a chair. Lita is torn as we saw this on the big screen, so she leaves ringside to tend her boyfriend, but Austin stops her at the ramp. WE MISS THE FUCKING FINISH AS THE CAMERA IS ON AUSTIN & LITA!! Triple H apparently hits the Pedigree and wins the title. What the fuck?? Matt runs out post match (after just being laid out) and takes a chair shot to the head. Jeff takes a brutal chair shot to the side of the head while he’s laying down as Austin chokes him with his belt. Lita is in tears as the Two Man Power Trip celebrate in the ring as Steph throws Lita in the ring, they stalk her down, but lights go out & here comes Taker and Kane as Austin & Trips scatter. Grade: **1/2 This match would’ve gotten like a full star more had it not been for that garbage finish, a finish mind you, we didn’t even friggin see! Prior to all that bullshit, the match itself was pretty great. Hunter dominated, Jeff fought back & hit moves on Hunter that he normally never takes, but then the wheels fell off and it was what it was. Fine that Hunter won the title back as it played into the feud with Taker & Kane, but the fact we didn’t see the actual finish was terrible.
![](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/GOKNVz1y7d8/hqdefault.jpg) Lance Storm vs Albert – July 23, 2001 Storm launched to the corner with Albert hitting a beal & tosses Lance outside. Storm tries to out run Albert & try a slingshot crossbody, but gets caught. Albert runs to the post, but Storm wiggles free & sends Albert into it. Back inside Albert dishes out punches & a flying shoulder before gorilla presses Lance & hits a big splash for 2. He eats a boot by Storm in the corner, but Lance charges out & Albert hits a scissors kick. Mike Awesome runs out from the back to take the ref, X-Pac down to fight off Awesome, as Hugh Morrus runs in with the IC Title & smacks Albert. Storm with a superkick, the cover & gets the title. Grade: 1/2* They tried to fit so much stuff in like 3 minutes. I felt bad; Storm’s sole singles title in the WWF is this.
![](https://a4-images.myspacecdn.com/images04/4/23ef5b497d244642bb5b888a4e4412c6/full.jpg) Test vs Edge – November 5, 2001 Bell sounds & Edge had already attacked before the bell, but Test gets a Stun Gun before pouring on offense in the corner. Edge tries fighting back, but runs into a tilt a whirl slam for 2. Vertical suplex for another 2 by Test, who chokes Edge with a boot in the corner & hits a follow up splash & another. He charges for a third, but Edge fires out with a Spear as we get a slugfest that Edge wins. Clothesline & a wheel kick, but Test gets an elbow up, signals for the boot, misses & Edge with a neckbreaker for 2. Test tries for a powerbomb, Edge rolls through for another 2. Edge with a Tornado DDT, hooks the leg & again gets 2. Edge to the top, but Test shoves the ref into the ropes, crotching Edge. He stacks Edge up, feet on the ropes & Test wins the title. Grade: *1/4 Your standard TV match, which had quite a bit of stuff in like 5 minutes, but taken down a notch due to the dumb finish. This was really just to set up their Survivor Series match.

Part 1 of the WWF/E Title History ![](https://cdn3.whatculture.com/images/2016/08/a0b280caef776636-600x338.jpg)
WWF Title Psycho Sid vs Bret Hart – February 17, 1997 Bret just won the title the night prior at Final Four in a long grueling match, so Sid is fresh as a F’n daisy here. So no surprise he takes it to Bret early as he works the lower back then drives the boot to the chest repeatedly. Champ fights back with a side suplex & headbutt to the sternum as he hits his corner elbow as this time Bret works the lower back. Kidney shots by Sid regains him control as he hits a big backbreaker for 2. Sid takes too much time, so Bret targets the leg & locks in the figure four in the post! Hebner struggles getting him to release it as we go to commercial. Back inside, Bret is kicking away at the leg in the corner before Sid fights his way out with clubbing shots to the chest & a big clothesline. Sid drops a leg that damn near kills Bret for 2 & hits a slam, barely selling the leg at all that Bret just spent 8 minutes working on. He then hits a legdrop off the second rope WITH THE BAD LEG for 2. Sid winces, so that’s what his selling consists of. Sid is louder than Cena calling spots as he tries for a choke slam, but Bret fights back & ties him in the ropes, charges, Sid gets free & Bret gets hung up bad. Sid gets backdropped to the floor as Stone Cold runs out & gets clocked by Sid, who HITS A SUNSET FLIP BACK IN THE RING, but Bret quickly escapes & gets the SHARPSHOOTER! Earl Hebner is conveniently turned away from Bret, so Austin can hit him so softly with a chair (good) as Sid gets up & hits the Powerbomb for the win. Grade: *1/4 That one star is all Bret selling because Sid sure as shit didn’t. Sid as World Champ heading into Wrestlemania. I know Bret & Austin didn’t need the title, but man, Sid as champion in 97 was just meh. I will give him this; the crowd did chant Sid after the match. This was 15 minutes and it wasn’t that good at all. When you work a leg for MINUTES, maybe sell it more than a wince?
![](https://s2.dmcdn.net/v/cAFJ1EQ8pfiFcY4V/x1080) Steve Austin vs Kane – June 29, 1998 You forget Kane won the title the night prior as KOTR that year was dominated by Mankind vs Taker. Here we are though as they brawl right out the gate, spilling outside where Austin hits a diving clothesline off the apron & sends Kane into the steps and railings. Back inside, where Kane takes over, choking away, but Austin fights back, posting the leg over & over. That’s what Stone Cole picks apart as he chop blocks the big man down, but Kane sends Austin tumbling outside. It’s just more brawling out there as Kane sends him chest first into the buckle inside. After all this brawling, Kane slaps on a rest hold. This is probably to give Undertaker his pop as he makes his way down the ramp. Kane with a big boot as he slams Austin down & drops an elbow. To the top he goes, connecting with a flying clothesline. Back to the rest hold as Austin quickly gets up & fights back with rights. Kane cuts him off with a choke slam, then goes for the Tombstone, but Austin wiggles free, tries for a Stunner, misses, ducks a big boot, STUNNER 1…2…3!! The sound of the crowd is insane and Austin just lost the title 24 hours ago. Grade: *3/4 This was the definition of TV main event, but more special due to the title change. Austin was so ungodly over at this point, he could’ve done anything & the fans would pop. He didn’t do all that much in this and I think it’s because he was still injured (his arm is bandaged up pretty good). Not a great match, but a great reaction obviously.
![](https://wrestling-edge.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/skysports-mankind-mick-foley_4198819.jpg) Mankind vs The Rock – December 29 1998 I didn’t get Tony to spoil this for me, I was watching RAW already as a kid this night and I lost my shit at the ending of this. DX & The Corporation are ringside as Rock & Mick brawl exclusively outside for the opening minutes as Rock drops the steps onto Mick’s back and it’s brutal. He then stacks the steps on top of Mick & drops another on top as Rock hits a snap suplex ringside before grabbing a headset off Cole to do some commentary. Mick dives over the announce table to light him up as Lawler begs for help as Mick comes alive & does some commentary before Rock cracks him with the bell. ROCK BOTTOM THROUGH THE ANNOUNCE TABLE as this match finally makes it back in the ring as Rock gets a 2. Mick fires back right hands, but Rock with a back elbow, bodyslam & the People’s Elbow for 2. Rock lowers his head, but Mick hits a neckbreaker to give him time to recover. Bossman grabs his leg as Rock smacks Mick with title (It’s No DQ, but we get a ref distract spot? Ok) for a 2 count. Rock goes for another shot, but Mick gets a Double Arm DDT on the title for 2. Mick goes for Socko as Rock gets a taste of the Mandible Claw, but Shamrock cracks Mick with a chair. Billy Gunn wipes out Shamrock, DX & the Corporation are brawling as the glass shatters & the crowd goes ballistic! Austin runs down, smacks Rock with a chair & puts Mick on top of Rocky for the 1…2…3!! Crowd chanting along with the count & losing their damn minds is the biggest pop I’ve heard in the Attitude Era as Vince & Shane are furious ringside with Austin taunting at the ramp. This was one of the coolest moments in wrestling history. Grade: **** The match went like 8 minutes, five of which was on the floor, but Mick Foley winning the World Title is an amazing moment & I loved it so much. This set the stage for the title being hot potatoed the next few months, but dammit, this night was special.
![](https://www.wwe.com/f/styles/gallery_img_ml/public/t25/image/2012/07/RareRockRaw/RareRockRawMoment8.jpg) The Rock vs Mankind – February 15, 1999 I think this is the 6th (and final if I’m not mistaken) match between these two in this series as I think they’re 2-2-1. This is a Ladder Match and brawling on the floor to start as Mick takes his brutal steps where he goes knees first & takes a flip bump. Rocky grabs a chair & wisely goes to work on Mick’s leg with it. Rock gets the ladder, but Mick swings the chair & drops the ladder onto Rock and starts lighting him up. Mick with the worst People’s Elbow ever as Rock sells it like a champ. Mick starts climbing, but Rock smacks him in the leg with the chair & Foley falls with the ladder landing on him. Rock traps Mick’s leg in the ladder & starts slamming the chair on it as we then trade moments of each guy trying to climb the ladder, with the other knocking them off with a chair. We spill into the crowd where we brawl a bit, then make it back to the stage where Rock hits a suplex. Rock chokes Mick with the cable chord, goes to whip him into the steps, but reverses & Rock eats the steps. We go to the Spanish announce table where Rock hits a low blow & Rock Bottom, exploding the table. After a long track back inside, Rock slowly climbs the ladder & Mick hits a low blow & double arm DDT. Foley gets Socko, but with his back turned, Rock smacks him in the head with the ladder, then a DDT. Both men start to climb & Foley gets the Mandible Claw! Pre-Big Show Paul Wight comes out & hits a spinning choke slam off the ladder, which was rad as hell. Rocky grabs the title & is your new champion as Wight stares down Stone Cold on commentary, while Rock shoves the ladder onto Foley to cap their feud. Grade: ***1/2 This was your typical Rock/Foley match, that had lots of brawling, but this time with some ladder spots sprinkled in. I thought it was very entertaining and it was a different stip for a feud that has gone 4 months at this point. I hate interference, but the choke slam was actually really cool, so I was fine with it. I obviously liked the last title match more, but this was solid stuff too.
![](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Y-IFEylJwjs/hqdefault.jpg) Steve Austin vs The Undertaker – June 28, 1999 Just hearing the glass break & crowd explode makes me miss these days so much. They trade shots in the corner as Taker wins that battle, he misses a clothesline & Austin hits a Thesz Press and his forearm for 2. Austin tries for a Stunner, but Taker bails outside, where Austin hits a double axe off the apron. Taker sends Austin into the steps & takes over back inside, where Paul Bearer hits Stone Cold with his shoe. From there we go to the floor briefly to brawl & Austin makes a brief comeback, but Taker regains control & slaps on a chin lock inside. I should point out Earl Hebner has jumped out of the ring FIVE TIMES THUS FAR from Taker just looking at him. Anyways, the rest hold is long as I’m more interested in the 2 drunk girls ringside who can’t believe they’re on camera (despite this being the main event, so they’ve been on TV the whole show). Austin fights up, but eats a back elbow. Taker hits Old School out of the corner for 2, then back to the chin lock. Austin hits a modified Stunner as he posts Taker’s legs, but Taker pulls him in & Austin eats the ring post. BACK TO THE CHIN LOCK, third fucking time. Austin thankfully fights back quick, floats over a Tombstone & hits the Stunner 1…2…Paul Bearer pulls Hebner to the floor. Austin lays him out, back in, avoids a chokeslam, hits another Stunner (after he & Taker just collide with each other) for the 3 count. Post match Taker lays out Austin, busting him open, which I think leads to Fully Loaded in their First Blood match? Maybe, I could be screwing up the timeline, but too lazy to double check. Grade: *1/2 The crowd pop can only do so much, but this match was pretty damn boring. Brawl on the floor, rest hold, repeat three times, go to the finish. I always wish these two had better chemistry, but I’d never call any of their matches all time classics, which is weird.
![](https://wwfoldschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Triple-H-wins-WWF-Championship-for-the-1st-time-ever-August-231999-WWF-Raw-Is-War.jpg) HHH vs Mankind – August 23, 1999 So Trips got this shot from “breaking” Jim Ross’ arm and granting Hunter a title shot later that night. Shane would of course make himself the referee for this match to stack the deck more. Mick fires shots in the corner & hits a bulldog, gets the cover, but Shane already doing the heel ref shenanigans. Mick already with the Mandible Claw on Shane & tosses him outside as Trips wants a Pedrigree, but Foley gets the Claw on Hunter. Chyna comes out & gets the Claw as Mick sends her outside. Double arm DDT on Hunter as Mick has the visibly 3 before Earl Hebner runs out & counts 2. We brawl around ringside as Hunter throws Mick into Chyna, who hip tosses him into the steps. Back inside Trips gets a 2 count, then a face buster for another close one. Hunter jaw jacks with the Rock on commentary as Chyna gets another shot in on Mick, who fights back briefly before Trips hits a knee for 2. We get a slugfest that Mick wins as he gets a boot & short arm clothesline for a near fall of his own. Mick does his clothesline over the top as they spill to the floor & go to the announce table. Shane cracks Mick with a chair & Hunter hits one to the head, then creams Rocky with an unexpected one, which looked great. Shane throws Mick back inside, then ducks Hebner as Hunter hits a Pedigree and Shane counts the 3 and Trips wins his first World Title. Grade: **1/2 Mick had won the title the night prior, but dropped it here basically because Austin didn’t want to drop it to Hunter at Summerslam. It was one of those overly booked deals & it was really a nothing match. Gave it a 1/2 star extra simply for historical purposes & the awesome chair shot to Rock, but aside from that, it’s exactly what you’d expect in 1999 booking.
![](https://img.bleacherreport.net/img/images/photos/002/553/853/TripleHwinstitle_crop_north.jpg?h=533&w=800&q=70&crop_x=center&crop_y=top) HHH vs Big Show – January 3, 2000 So going with the theme of Big Show’s title reign, this was in the middle of the show & not the main event. Show’s whole reign wasn’t taken seriously one bit & it was put on the back burner for Vince vs Trips being the main feud. So Show ragdolls Hunter early with DX & Steph up at the ramp. He takes a Flair corner flip to the floor & Show goes after him. Hunter wiggles free from Show’s grasp & sends him over the barricade into the crowd. Apparently this is No DQ/No Countout as these two brawl over the announce table with Trips getting the upper hand & mounting Show, they’ve been outside for minutes at this point. He’s slamming Show into everything ringside, gets inside the ring & hits his two knees for a 2 count. Show starts hulking up & headbutts Trips down, then a side suplex for 2. Snap powerslam by Show gets another near fall, he hits the Choke Slam, but Trips with a foot on the rope. Show misses an elbow off the second, Trips tries a Pedigree, but gets backdropped as DX comes down the ramp. Show gets low blowed behind the refs back as Trips hits a Pedigree for the title in less than 7 minutes I think. Grade: 3/4 * Show winning 2 months prior at Survivor Series was a shock, but his reign sucked. He had the pretty bad (albeit memorable) feud with Bossman and that’s it. Triple H meanwhile married the bosses daughter & had been the main event of every show. So while the title went better with Hunter obviously, it still doesn’t change the fact that this made Show look like a total goof.

Bischoff, ever the copycat, saw the rating for this match and decided to do the Goldberg/Hogan title match a week later at the Georgia Dome (for free). Thus flushing millions of potential PPV dollars down the toilet. But he blames Time Warner for the demise of WCW and not decisions like those.

Interesting point Kid. I hadn't thought of that before. So what was the reasoning behind Kane winning the title for one night for it to change the next? Was it the idea of that anything can happen on any given night on WWF programming? And that's really it? Was it purely for a ratings grab on Monday night?

Was it the idea of that anything can happen on any given night on WWF programming? And that's really it? Was it purely for a ratings grab on Monday night? The best way I can tell, they booked themselves into a corner at King of the Ring. Remember, the stipulation at KOTR was a First Blood match. Since Kane was covered head to toe in a bodysuit, there was no real way he could lose a First Blood match without being unmasked (which they absolutely weren't gonna do). I guess they figured, switch the title at KOTR, and we'll get out of it tomorrow on Raw and pop a rating at the same time.

Austin had bad staph infection on his elbow a week before the KOTR show. Maybe Vince thought Austin was going to be out an extended time so he made the switch.
There was also the dumb stipulation that if Kane lost, "he'd set himself on fire on PPV", so Vince probably thought you have Kane win at the PPV, avoid that stip and just switch it back the next night.
Austin's arm was legit fucked up though.

Part 2 of WWF/E Title History I decided to just review all the World Title changes on RAW, since there were only a handful more. ![](https://thewwehistory.weebly.com/uploads/9/4/8/5/9485299/7236525_orig.jpg)
Chris Jericho vs HHH – April 17, 2000 Y2J gets the APA as security to make sure nothing fishy goes on with DX as Jericho gets a hot start chopping away in the corner, sending Trips outside. He misses a baseball slide, so Trips hits a clothesline & tosses him back inside. Hunter struggles to get back on the apron & eats a springboard dropkick out of the corner. Failed suplex attempt hangs up Jericho throat first in the ropes as Trips jumps in & hits a high knee. They go back outside where Jericho slams Trips into the announce table, then hits a boot (which you can see him signal for) as he shoots Y2J into the steps. Back in the ring we get a stalling suplex & VINTAGE TRIPS with the knee drop for 2. Barrage of rights as Jericho is busted at the mouth, but he fires back with chops, lowers his head & eats a DDT by the champ. Trips goes to the top, blows a kiss at Stephanie as Jericho arm drags him off, then a missile dropkick off the second for a 2 count. Trips tries a desperation Pedigree, but Jericho hooks the legs & tries for the Walls! Crowd pops huge as Hunter fights as Jericho slingshots him into the official. Jericho hits a bulldog, then goes up top as Shane crotches him. The race is on as the APA chase Shane up the ramp as Steph throws the WWF Title in the ring. Jericho gets the title first & waffles Trips with it, but no ref! Earl Hebner sprints down and Triple H kicks out at fucking 1. Trips hits his face buster as Hunter has a stare down with Earl, who he shoves & Earl shoves back. He pie faces Earl down, Jericho with a spin kick, Lionsault, Hebner counts a fast 1..2..3!! The crowd explodes, Jericho wins the title in a shock upset!! Grade: ***1/2 Earl bails as APA keep Trips from getting his hands on him as Jericho bails with the title. Of course we know that didn’t happen ultimately as Trips uses his stroke to reverse the decision. That part I hated, just beat Jericho at the PPV or whatever, I know it’s to make Trips look like a power hunger douchebag, but it also made Jericho look like a geek in the process. You can’t argue that pop though, it was insane & one of the biggest holy shit moments during the Monday Night Wars, if only it lasted longer than a show.
![](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/4Hhb6_mFdtA/maxresdefault.jpg) Steve Austin vs Kurt Angle – October 8, 2001 Austin gets in the face of WWF Commissioner William Regal as Austin & Kurt trade chops and punches in the corner as Kurt hits a back elbow, charges, but walks into a Thesz Press & forearm for a 1. Kurt fires back with a Thesz Press of his own as he wants a Stunner, misses, gets spun around & tries an Ankle Lock, but Austin scatters outside. Earl Hebner continues to be a nuisance as he distracts Angle enough for Austin to hook a leg & post it before Kurt sends Austin into the post. He chucks Austin over the table, lifts up the protective mat to expose the concrete, but takes too long as Austin fights back & takes over in the ring before sinking in a rest hold. Only briefly as Kurt fights back, but gets clubbed in the neck. Another rest hold, but Austin lets go, tries a Stunner, but Kurt with a backslide for 2. Austin up first & levels Kurt, hits the ropes & runs into a Sleeper. Jawbreaker by Stone Cold as we get a slug fest, they have a wonky little exchange hitting the ropes & Austin gets a Sleeper, but Kurt gets free with a back elbow. Stone Cold hits a friggin sunset flip from the outside in, but Kurt drops down & starts unloading punches. He hits the ropes, but Austin launches him outside as he goes to grab a chair, but Regal wrestles it away from him. He gives up, so he tries to piledrive Angle on the concrete, but Kurt backdrops him. Just like that though, back inside, Austin hits a spinebuster & locks on a Boston Crab, but Kurt gets the ropes. Austin doesn’t let go as get our shitty little Earl Hebner is a tough guy spot as he shoves Austin multiple times to allow Kurt to fight back. Overhead belly to belly, then some rolling Germans, but Austin low blows out of one. Stunner attempt countered, Angle Slam attempt, blocked, as Kurt is sent into Hebner, who takes a fall outside. Austin grabs the WWF Title as Regal jumps in the & grabs the title from him (you know where this is going) as Kurt slowly gets up & REGAL HITS ANGLE!! Austin tells Regal to grab the ref as he tosses Hebner back in for the 1…2…KICK OUT!! Regal can’t believe it as Austin is furious, so he pulls Kurt up & hits a Stunner for the 3 count. Grade: ***3/4 I really liked this match, hell, I liked damn near all of their matches during this time. This was the last one of the series I think, since Kurt randomly joined Austin a month later. The Regal interaction was fantastic, albeit very predictable, but this was an excellent RAW main event.
![](https://ourwweviews.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/raw-triple-threat.jpg?w=642) Edge vs Rob Van Dam vs John Cena – July 3, 2006 Of course Edge gets his ass kicked by the babyfaces to start as every time Cena hits a move, the crowd boos & when RVD hits one, they cheer. They chuck him to the floor as we go to break. When we return, Edge is still out on the floor & RVD goes up to the top with Cena, but Edge knocks them to the floor. He rolls up RVD, gets his feet on the rope, but the ref catches him (NO DQ, DUDE!) as Edge knocks Cena to the floor & gets rolled up (no pun intended) by Van Dam for 2. Cena drags Edge outside & slams him into the steps as Van Dam wipes out Cena with a dive. Back inside, Cena nearly hits an AA on RVD, but Edge breaks it up. With Edge up in a vertical suplex, RVD dives off with a cross body onto the back of Edge in a weird looking spot. Rolling Thunder is countered by both Edge & Cena into a spinebuster as they then double clothesline each other. Everyone is down and Chioda puts a standing 10 count on all of them, but it’s NO COUNTOUT! 3 way slugfest that ends in RVD dishing out kicks, but Edge sends him crashing outside. Cena dishes out lariats & shoulder blocks, then a little Five Knuckle Shuffle, goes for the AA & drops Edge to the floor. Lita comes in with a chair and eats the AA as RVD throws a chair to Cena, VAN DAMINATOR! He pops to the top for a 5 Star Frog Splash, but misses. Cena with the AA, but Edge runs in & clocks Cena with the title, covers RVD for the 3 count to steal the title. Grade: *** 10 minute triple threat match that felt super rushed from the start, but had some cool moves. I hate when refs do rope breaks and standing 10 counts in triple threat matches that have No DQs or Count Outs. Anyways this was punishment for RVD getting pulled over by the cops with Sabu and having weed on them, so he had to drop his WWE (and also ECW) titles as a result. Happy they at least let him do the job instead of just stripping him of them. The match had its moments, which is why I was probably more generous than I should, I just love a good Edge slimeball stealing of a title. He was so good at that.
![](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/OrJM1vTWLhI/hqdefault.jpg) Randy Orton vs Big Show vs Triple H vs John Cena – June 15, 2009 This was for the title that Batista had to vacate after suffering another arm injury. Fatal 4 Ways are pretty much chaotic, you know what you’re getting with them, two guys pairing off while others rest outside & switch. Heels took over at the start, but ultimately Trips & Cena turned the tables, knocking Show & Orton from the ring and then they had a long staredown before going at it with each other. Trips tried for a Pedigree, Cena tried an AA, but Show took them both out. Trips & Randy spilled to the floor while barely anything went on with Show & Cena inside. Show tried for a pin & Orton broke it up and pissed off show, so he just bailed, wisely. Ultimately Show took everyone out, tried to go for a Vader Bomb out of the corner & actually hit it on Cena, but Orton broke it up, only to get launched outside. Spear by Show on Trips for 2 as he went for another Vader Bomb, but misses as Orton slides in, tries for a RKO, but gets thrown down. Trips hits a Pedigree on Show, Cena with an AA on Trips, covers Show 1…2…NO! Cena wants an AA on Show & hits it, but Orton slides in, throws Cena into the post & hits a RKO on Show for the 3 and the title. Grade: ** Average TV match, that’s about it. It went 12 minutes, but wasn’t anything special unfortunately. I honestly don’t remember much about this time period in WWE. The 2007-2011 (honestly you could argue 2007-present) all blend together, which is also unfortunate.
![](https://cdn3.whatculture.com/images/2015/01/Angry-Miz-Girl.gif) The Miz vs Randy Orton – November 22, 2010 After Orton defeated Wade Barrett, Miz came rushing out with his Money in the Bank briefcase, charges at a limping Orton & tries going after the bad leg, but Orton shoves him away twice before Miz clips it & goes to work. He wraps the leg around the post, but Orton shoves him into the barricade to create space. Back inside Orton hits a clothesline & uppercut as Randy tries his draping DDT, but Miz gets free & again clips the leg, but snap powerslam by Orton. He signals for the RKO, goes for it, but Miz turns it into a Skull Crushing Finale for the 3!! Cut to Angry Miz Girl and the celebration with Miz & A-Ry is on. Grade: ** Maybe that rating is generous considering it was a couple leg clips and went 2 minutes, but in 2010, seeing Miz, who I first saw on his Real World season, World champion? That’s pretty cool & still is, no matter what happened during his title reign. Miz winning was a cool surprise, the crowd pissed was amazing & Angry Miz Girl remains Top 5 reactions of a fan in history.
![](https://s1.dmcdn.net/v/87LIw1KLJArO3Iek5/x1080) John Cena vs Rey Mysterio – July 25, 2011 I’m not reviewing Rey vs Miz that happened earlier this night and it was a tournament final for the vacant title as Punk bailed. Cena got a shot later in the show, so I’ll just review this one, the abridged version. Rey with a seated senton off the top rope for 2, but Cena rolls out & tries the STF, but it’s Rey reversing it & locks on the STF of his own! Cena powers up on one leg, swings Rey around & tries for an AA, but his leg buckles. Rey sends Cena into the ropes & hits a 619, then goes to the top for a Frog Splash, but Cena gets the knees up. Both are slow to get up as Rey tries for a hurricanrana out of the corner & Cena just tosses him down. Cena climbs to the top & hits his legdrop 1…2…NO! Cena’s leg buckles again, Rey goes for a 619 once more, but Cena pops up & hits an AA for the 3 count. I felt shitty for Rey, who won the title earlier, as Cena got the title back right after losing it to Punk at MITB. So it was kind of cheap, but we got Punk coming out after the match to Cult of Personality and he was officially back. We all know how they fucked that up. Grade: *** For wrestling already once before earlier, Rey crushed it here and it was a match we didn’t see all that often as Cena & Rey never wrestled each other. All things considered, it was a fun match, even if I didn’t like the end result.
![](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/aPxdnFJKTlw/maxresdefault.jpg) Roman Reigns vs Sheamus – December 14, 2015 Sorry, I’m not reviewing a 20 minute Roman vs Sheamus match, so you’re getting the cliff notes version. This was Title vs Career as the Authority were really dicking over Roman, while booking was doing everything they could to get fans to cheer Roman, which didn’t work all that well. Roman hit a Superman Punch 1…2…Vince pulled the ref out of the ring as Sheamus regains control, Vince sends back in the ref as Sheamus hits White Noise for a 2 count. Vince again takes the ref as Rusev & Del Rio run down to beat up Roman, but he gets all Superman Punch happy and nails Del Rio, Rusev, Sheamus & Vince, but takes too long as Sheamus hits a Brogue Kick for 2. Sheamus goes for another one, but Roman hits the Spear for the win as Michael Cole robotically loses his shit in excitement. Grade: *3/4 This was during the prime Roman overkill time period and I really didn’t like any of it. How they handled this was just wrong. Nothing against Roman at all, he’s a solid wrestler & a nice dude, but creative & Vince were so damn stubborn. I will say this, the crowd popped when Roman won, so in that regard, mission accomplished, for one night. Once Vince was out of the picture though, fans were back to booing Roman.
