Over the years there have been a lot of guys I was a huge fan of that never amounted to much overall. In no particular order, here are five wrestlers I was dead wrong about.
1. Test (In 1999, I thought it would be a matter of time before he'd be main eventing a WrestleMania)
2. Paul Roma (Yes, I was a huge fan. In 1991 I wanted Paul Roma to split from Power & Glory and become an IC Title contender)
3. Crush (Kona Crush was my second favorite wrestler in 1993 and 94 behind Bret and I wanted him to slam Yokozuna and get the Lex push)
4. Mike Awesome (I thought he was a more athletic version of Sid and wanted him to win the WCW Title in 2000)
5. Monty Brown (Such a great promo and had so much potential; probably should have stayed away from WWE and continued to build his fanbase in TNA)

I really thought Bayley and Sasha would change women's wrestling.
And if I were building a wrestling promotion in 2001 and you asked me who my champ would be, it would have been Sean O'Haire without a doubt.

What a great idea for a list. This is going to take some time.
I'll have a complete list later, but reading the title of this thread, the name Mark Jindrak pops into my head immediately.
The look, the height, the vertical, decent in the ring, he had everything to succeed in WWE, but he was weak at promos. The Evolution thing is interesting and if he had his head on right, could've probably succeeded.
He was pretty friggin massive in Mexico though, so his career wasn't a flop by any means.

Van Hammer was given every opportunity to succeed in WCW, for almost a decade (he was still there in 2000!). As long as Dusty was around, Van Hammer was safe. Pope was a really good one that I forgot about. I was really high on him when he showed up in TNA in 2010. Really thought he'd break out. I thought Furnas and Lafon would be the Steiners 2.0.

The caption of that picture should be "When you walk into a North Carolina Waffle House drunk and realize you walked into the wrong Waffle House."

I guess I thought Mr. Kennedy was gonna kinda be something.
I had no idea Brutus was The Disciple in WCW. I thought he looked like a badass and expected big things.
Those two scenarios are one of the very rare times that I've ever been wrong about professional wrestling.
Very rare.

You were fooled by Brutus growing a beard and wearing sunglasses? Haha, that's fantastic.

A couple more:
Billy Gunn (I was all-in with his 1999 KOTR push)
The Wall/Malice (Liked him in WCW and thought he should have been the first TNA Champion instead of Shamrock)
Ken Shamrock (Could have been a main event counterpart to Goldberg but they killed his momentum when they put him in the Corporation)
Alex Wright (Well, obviously)

The caption of that picture should be "When you walk into a North Carolina Waffle House drunk and realize you walked into the wrong Waffle House." I haven't been to a Waffle House since 1997. And that was in Memphis. Traumatizing weekend that has forever tainted me from eating at one again. Multiple near death and "I can't believe we didn't get arrested" experiences. Seeing a midget get kidnapped from the Admiral BenBow motel may have been the least disturbing thing that happened in those 48 hours.
