AEW is considering a backup location for the debut edition of Collision next month.
Dave Meltzer is reporting that Daily's Place in Jacksonville, Florida is being considered as a backup location. AEW had originally set to launch the show at the United Center in Chicago on June 17, but plans are currently up in the air due to a dispute between Punk and AEW.
“AEW has had contact with Daily's Place as a possible back-up location for the debut of Collision on 6/17. This is not an official change, but it does appear that the CM Punk situation has until Wednesday to go whichever way it goes and if he's not appearing then they won't go to the United Center. People involved with the proposed event said they were told yesterday about the show being possible and that a decision would be made over the next week.
The feeling is, and I agree with this, that the United Center is not the right place for the debut unless Punk is going to be there because fans will expect him and be disappointed if he's not there, whether he's advertised or not. Also, without fans believing he will be there, I don't see them being able to sell enough tickets on such short notice that it would be worth it since they already have a show a few days later at the Wintrust Arena.”

So Punk has creative control? How come Tony can’t just say “hey motherfucker, you work for me, you show up when I tell you and I say you’re showing up at Collision?”
This is such a bad look for Punk and AEW if this falls through and not happen at the United Center.
If Punk is going to go back to WWE, get paid out the ass and be the biggest hypocrite in wrestling with what they put him through. If that happens i guess everyone has a price.
Still just wish he’d grow up and show up to Collision.

I love the Bert Hart idea. Lends instant credibility to the brand. I wouldn't have him do the traditional in-ring GM bullshit that's been done. Have him in a Tunney role and maybe combine occasional matchmaker and super exciting special announcement maker. When he makes a match announcement, make it a voice over of a video package like New Japan arrivals or challenges. Bret can get lost a bit these days, but making his role mostly pre-recorded could make it different. |

Yeah I'd use him for the first month of the Canada loop. Have him clock someone with a punch or something to get the roar of the crowd and rub to a babyface. Also have him involved with the Owen tournament in some sense. Ospreay getting decked by Bret at Forbidden Door would be cool, only to have Callis help Ospreay or something. I know Callis is Canadian, but he's going to get booed everywhere, so it'd be cool.
I also just realized I'm going to miss this debut episode, as I'll be gone for father's day weekend with my dad. DVR treatment it is.

Apparently ticket sales for the Canada Collision loop have been really low so far. United Center is strong, but I honestly see Punk being booed other places. Not by everyone, but enough.
Dedicating his run to Bret will try to save face in Canada for sure.
I assume Juice loses the fall and Joe beats down Punk post match to set up their first feud. Maybe Switchblade vs Punk down the line?
