46-42 Germantown. 15.9 seconds left. No timeouts for the Neenah whatever they're called.
Timeout. Why the hell did Germantown call a timeout and let Neenah get set up for this?

Madison — With about a minute left, the chant started from the Germantown student section. "We don't lose here!" "We don't lose here!" They sure don't. The Warhawks boys basketball team defeated Neenah, 48-42, in the WIAA Division 1 state championship game Saturday night at the Kohl Center to claim its third straight title and become the seventh school in state history to win at least three championships in a row. Randolph (2002-'05) is the only program to win four straight WIAA titles. Beloit (1932-'34), Marathon (1975-'77), Milwaukee Vincent (1996-'98), Racine St. Catherine's (2005-'07) and Whitefish Bay Dominican (2012-'14) have won three straight titles as well. Senior guards Lamonte Bearden and Brian Bearden finished with 13 points each for the Warhawks, who finished 26-2. Senior guard Jake Showalter added eight points, including two free throws with 8.4 seconds left to give Germantown its final margin of victory. Lamonte Bearden's free throw with 15.9 seconds to play essentially put the game out of reach at 46-42. Senior guard Trevor Entwisle led Neenah (26-2) with 14 points. Following Bearden's free throw, Entwisle was called for traveling just before making a three-pointer that would have cut the deficit to one. The Neenah fans voiced their disapproval of the call with a cascade of boos after the game ended. The tide started to swing in Germantown's favor when it scored the final four points of the third quarter to break a 32-32 tie. Lamonte Bearden got the first bucket, slicing through the Rockets in transition. The next time down the Warhawks beat the clock as Showalter's layup fell just before the third-quarter buzzer. The play started on the other end with an Evan Wesenberg block. Two free throws by Brian Bearden pushed the lead to six 45 seconds into the fourth quarter. Neenah, meanwhile, opened the fourth quarter with three scoreless possessions. Two were the result of turnovers and the other time junior forward Natt Heldt failed to get shots to drop twice in one possession. The Rockets paid for Heldt's misses when Wesenberg tipped in Brian Bearden's miss to give Germantown a 40-32 lead with 3:18 to play. When senior point guard Adam Pohlman missed a three-pointer on Neenah's next possession it marked its seventh straight scoreless possession since it tied the game, 32-32, with 2½ minutes left in the third quarter. Heldt snapped a more than quarter-long scoring drought with a basket inside to cut Germantown's lead to 40-34. Jon Averkamp got those points back by sinking both ends of the one-and-one to push the lead back to eight. Neenah wasn't done, though. Entwisle's three from the corner made it 42-37. Taulvish McCray's layup and another three by Entwisle made it 45-42 with 16.8 seconds to play. But Lamonte Bearden sealed the victory on Germantown's next possession by hitting the second of two free throws with 15.9 seconds to play. It was a seven-point game at the half, but Germantown outscored the Rockets by eight in the second quarter. The Warhawks closed the half with a 16-4 run that was sparked Lamonte Bearden, who was unstoppable in transition. He scored all of his eight first-half points during the final 6 minutes of the half. Bearden led all scorers in the half. Heldt led Neenah with five points. Statistically it was a pretty even first two quarters. Germantown shot 39.1% (9 for 23); Neenah was at 33.3% (8 for 24). Both teams had 16 rebounds, four offensive.
