Anywho, my computer bogged down and erased a fantastic post from earlier.
More reasons for the E's sudden stock plummet:
* Perhaps Vince isn't in good health
* Maybe the E is selling to Comcast and investors are quite skeptical
* Maybe the recent massive sale of Stephanie's shares falls under some sort of insider trading dealio.
* Perhaps some sort of steroid/drug scandal is on the horizon
* Maybe John Cena is finally going down for his steroid abuse.
* Maybe the Back Door To Chyna was just a little too much and now everybody is suffering?

Fair. I'll have to see where I crossed my thoughts. I think I wanted them to win. Despite all of my issues with the product as a 35 year old male, this would have felt like a partial win FOR US, THE ADULT MALE WRESTLING FAN. But I see the obvious issues with the company. That's most likely where my words met my thoughts.

Drop In is right in that the strategy was smart to have all their TV deals coming due around the same time. They obviously weren't able corral that into the windfall they expected, but that doesn't mean the strategy was bad.
Supposedly the back ends of these deals are quite favorable for WWE. At least according to Barrios. So I guess we'll see.
I think this isn't a huge long term issue. It sucks now but eventually things will stabilize and Vince will continue turning a profit.

- The latest fall-out from WWE's stock price free-fall is the former attorney general in Louisiana announcing an investigation into WWE. Former AG Charles C. Foti, who is now a partner for a local La. law firm, says the firm's investigation will focus on whether "WWE and/or its officers and directors violated state or federal securities laws" by over-stating the expected value of their TV contract renewal with NBC Universal.
A similar announcement was made by the Shareholders Foundation two weeks ago prior to WWE's TV contract announcement. WWE issued a statement in response: "The claim that Shareholders Foundation is allegedly investigating has absolutely no substance or merit.”

Look at that article though. Wall Street, and Vince, wanted to increase their TV deal by 100%. They increased by 50% instead. That's not terrible.
And getting 600,000 people to subscribe to the Network in 40 days isn't something to shake a stick at. And that's only in the US. If they can get to 1.5M subscribers by the 1 year mark nationally and another 1M internationally, that's a win.

That's why I think something more ominous may be on the horizon. Because yes, the subscription rate is incredibly impressive to me. I can't imagine how they don't end up at the 1 million projection or better. Especially with the providers basically forcing people to get the Network if they want to watch PPV's. Even the TV deal is fine in my view. The Boss just needs to slow down on his bravado when it comes to dealing with the Street. |
