This is big enough to deserve a thread. They really screwed the pooch here. Honestly, I'm shocked. I thought they'd at least reach their floor, potentially getting stupid money. Live television rights are the hot thing right now. This story will be fun to follow. I'm not sure how this happened. VINCE LOST 345 MILLION DOLLARS! Vince could have given NBC Universal 250 million dollars, making it look like a 450 million dollar deal, and probably be up 150. Haha.

Vince spent more on 2 campaigns for his wife's bucket list.
I think he'll be okay.
But I'd be worried if I was COCK-BLOCKING SON-IN-LAW.

I have a couple initial thoughts here. First, I believed WWE could pull 75% of a Nascar deal. Why not? They were willing to go live with Smackdown. They have the PG era advertisers. They still do well in main demographics. I think we'll find out it's the network. Vince and Co. played their hand. They went with the network first. In turn, they pissed off many people in the cable industry. When you hear the stories about ECW being owed around two million in PPV revenue when they sank, you have an example. Mind you, ECW owed about eight million, so it wouldn't have been THAT big. But these execs work together at times. I'd be willing to bet this was a lesson. A lesson in fighting the man. Vince thinks he's the man. He is in many ways. But this was the industry slapping content providers down likes it's their job. "You're going to take away PPV and start a trend against us?" awfulannouncing.com/2014/wwes-new-tv-deal-misses-out-on-exponential-growth-in-live-content-rights.html

I'm still not convinced this is all about the TV deal. Wall Street is usually months if not a year ahead of what the public knows/sees.
I wonder if something even more menacing is on the horizon.

I know what you're saying, but I think this will be rock bottom. It's certainly possible the company "promoted" a Nascar style deal. Worst case scenario, the stock price goes through the roof and comes back down. The family still owns 80% of the stock. Best case scenario, everyone buys into the hype. WHY SHOULDN'T WE GET NASCAR MONEY? WHY NOT US? They turn it into a 1.8-2.4 billion dollar company. They could buy a cable outlet to work with the groundbreaking digital outlet. Currently, WWE is being shit on by the financial and entertainment world. A nice little de-push to the Money In the Bank winner. Solid company with a rabid fan base still exists. Stock is around early 2013 levels (not referenced). I'm amazed this got fucked up. Seriously. They lined it up perfectly. But it wouldn't surprise me if I go into "only we can do this to our pledges" mode in the coming months.

I wonder if they should've locked up the TV deal before doing the Network. The fallout from the outlets like DirectV, Dish, At&T probably had an impact on the industry. Many rumored potential Raw/Smackdown outlet partners also fizzled in the past few months.
So that's one thing I would've done differently.

Here's a thought. I wonder if the E should've just started the Network on a smaller scale. $4.99/month for the archived stuff, NXT, Main Event and original content.
And then take a slower approach on how to do the PPV's at a later point in time.
I'm still not even sure they're worked out how talents would be paid now due to the new PPV structure.

Things that also don't help:
* Ratings have been stagnant or declining for years * Pissing off providers (AT&T, DirecTV, Dish) * Having mega talent walk away, before biggest show of year, without a solid explanation. (Punk) * Having mega talent, and current champion, and best thing going, go under the knife. (Bryan) * Global Force Wrestling's imminent entry to the market * Uncertainty in talent compensation due to the Network * If I'm not mistaken, even some of their video game partners have taken hits the past few years

Things that also don't help: * Ratings have been stagnant or declining for years That's why they added the third hour. It minimizes the decline, and give more live hours. The hot thing. * Pissing off providers (AT&T, DirecTV, Dish) BOOM BOOM BOOM * Having mega talent walk away, before biggest show of year, without a solid explanation. (Punk) Here's what really frightening. Punk partially left due to payoffs for the roster. Now, the payoffs Vince didn't want to deliver aren't there. Yikes. * Having mega talent, and current champion, and best thing going, go under the knife. (Bryan) Doesn't help. But they were going to bury him anyway. This is perfect. Pull the title off Bryan and let him chase. I don't know if he's over now, but he's not money as champion. He's money chasing. Maybe. * Global Force Wrestling's imminent entry to the market No. I LOVE every last bit of this deal. Almost made a strong run to do any type of management role for the company. But that's not going to impact WWE in ten days. * Uncertainty in talent compensation due to the Network * If I'm not mistaken, even some of their video game partners have taken hits the past few years HUGE. But, what are they going to do? If you're not Jericho, Foley, etc. You're going GFW, or stick with WWE. This will end up being a big, big bump in the road. But WWE is still reality for some time.

The interesting thing in all of this to me is the Comcast connection. Obviously, Comcast owns NBCU, and obviously WWE just re-upped on NBCU's USA and Syfy networks.
Comcast is also one of a handful of companies, and THEE front runner to the recent WWE rumors about companies who could buy the E.
What all of that means? I have no idea. But I'm guessing we haven't heard the end of it.

The extra intrigue is that WWE will impact many levels of entertainment and the way it's delivered. If Vince gets bullied, all prices are going up. Netflix, etc. Cable companies need to keep their dominance. If the FCC wasn't a paid for government ally, it would be a different story as well.

It's a great thread and I'm glad it got it's own thread. And now you have me over-thinking dammitt!! So of course I can't help it and here I go again........ This is mainly why I think that it's more than the TV deal. Any simpleton, like me for instance, has read all the dirt sheets the past few months and realize that suitors for Raw and Smackdown the last few months have dropped faster than WWE recently inducted HOF'ers. That was bad but hell, maybe even losing icons like the Undertaker (streak) and the Warrior ( ) may have even impacted everything to a tiny, tiny degree. But what I meant to say is that investors have seen everything we have seen and have infinitely more information at their disposal than we have. They would've seen/known that the E bargaining power was dwindling. They would've/should've sold off long ago. I believe they now know something else. I'll give ya a list in a moment.

I'll give WWE this, and many people missed it. All of the previous contracts were strategically placed. They set all bidding contracts up at the same time this round. The timing, content, and excitable need for anything live seemed to work.

The timing, content, and excitable need for anything live seemed to work. It turned out into a 25% increase in TV rights but the result was their stock dropping nearly 50%. Not sure I'd give them that one.
