Joe Gibbs Racing found an experienced replacement for the injured Kyle Busch.
David Ragan, a ninth-year Sprint Cup Series driver who currently races for Front Row Motorsports, will substitute for Busch in the No. 18 car for at least the next few weeks — possibly longer.
Busch suffered a compound fracture of his right leg and also broke his left foot in a crash Saturday at Daytona International Speedway. He is out indefinitely.
JGR, after discussing a variety of candidates for the car, worked out a deal with Ragan and Front Row. Ragan, 29, will return to the No. 34 car later this year after his sub duties are finished, JGR said Tuesday.
"We appreciate being able to work with Front Row Motorsports and (sponsor) CSX for David's availability," team owner Joe Gibbs said. "We are fortunate to be able to have someone of David's caliber behind the wheel while Kyle recovers. We appreciate all the support we have received from the NASCAR community including our fans and we look forward to getting Kyle back in the car as soon as possible."
The move could be beneficial to Front Row despite Ragan's absence. If Ragan wins a race in the No. 18 car, he could end up driving a Front Row car in the Chase for the Sprint Cup -- a move that would benefit the team and its sponsors.
Front Row did not immediately name a replacement driver for Ragan in the No. 34 car.
Busch was transferred from a hospital in Daytona Beach, Fla. to one near his home in the Charlotte area earlier Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Erik Jones will drive Busch's No. 54 car in the Xfinity Series race at Atlanta. A further lineup for that car will be announced at a later date.
Jones had also been discussed as a candidate for the No. 18 Cup ride.
"Erik is a big part of our future at JGR and we will be increasing his schedule in the Xfinity Series beginning this weekend in Atlanta and seeking the earliest opportunity to provide him Cup experience," Gibbs said.

There will also be a return to two former retro looks on the No. 2 this season, as well:
* The black and gold Miller Genuine Draft paint scheme from the 1990s for the August race at Michigan.
* The red and white Miller High Life design from the 1980s for the Labor Day weekend race at Darlington.

Completely understandable considering you are in the heart of Natural Ice and Busch Light country. Hell they might even splurge and drink SouthPaw down in your holler.

South Paw is brewed by Miller Coors. And I would actually try this beer because these are two great hops:
About Southpaw Light Southpaw Light is double-hopped with Cluster and Galena hops for a fuller-flavored light beer.
I looked though and it isn't sold around here.

My buddy in TN swears by that stuff. I want to say its kind of like a cream ale. It is very similar to little kings/mickey's...both of which are terrible. It was part of the plank road/icehouse line back in the day.

NASCAR lifted driver Kurt Busch's suspension on Wednesday, saying he can return to driving immediately but will still be under indefinite probation. NASCAR suspended Busch indefinitely on Feb. 20 after a Delaware court ruled "it is more likely than not" Busch committed an act of abuse against his ex-girlfriend Patricia Driscoll in September 2014. Busch avoid criminal charges in the case with the Delaware state's attorney's office denied to prosecute him after Driscoll clammed that Busch smashed her head into a bedroom wall and choked her. Authorities said there was not enough evidence to bring criminal charges. "We have made it very clear to Kurt Busch our expectations for him moving forward, which includes participation in a treatment program and full compliance with all judicial requirements as a result of his off-track behavior," Steve O'Donnell, NASCAR Executive Vice President and Chief Racing Development Officer said. NASCAR said they reinstated Busch after completed the mandatory behavioral assessment sessions and after consulting with the behavioral health care expert, who recommend that Busch return to racing. Busch has missed all three races this season at Dayton, Las Vegas and Atlanta. It is not know if Busch will drive this weekend in Phoenix. NASCAR waived the requirement that a driver must compete in all Championship Events of the current season to be eligible for The Chase. www.si.com/racing/2015/03/11/kurt-busch-suspension-lifted

Brett Moffitt will replace Brian Vickers in Michael Waltrip Racing's No. 55 Toyota this weekend at Auto Club Speedway after MWR announced Friday that Vickers has experienced a reoccurrence of blood clots. Vickers, 31, has begun taking blood-thinning medication and will not be able to compete while on the medicine. "First and foremost our thoughts are with Brian and his family," said MWR founder and co-owner Michael Waltrip. "He isn't just our race car driver, he is our friend and we know the NASCAR community will continue to rally around Brian. We are fortunate to have Brett Moffitt in our system and marveled at his great drive in Atlanta three weeks ago, so we know he can get the job done in the No. 55 this weekend. As this news is very fresh and the situation is very fluid, we can only plan for this weekend at this point." Vickers missed the season's first two races recovering from mid-December surgery to replace an artificial patch in his heart. He finished 15th at Las Vegas and 41st at Phoenix, respectively, the past two weekends. "Thankfully, because I recognized the signs and symptoms, the doctors caught this early and I'm going to be OK," Vickers said. "I had finished my treatment for the clot I had in my leg back in 2013 and I haven't needed to be on a blood thinner for a clot in my leg or lung since," said Vickers. "Now I won't be able to race because I'll need to be back on a blood thinner. I'm going to follow doctor's orders and do everything I need to do to get well. "Believe it or not, it's Blood Clot Awareness Month and I was supposed to be at the track this weekend doing some work with my partners at Janssen focused on getting the word out. I'm disappointed I can't be there but if there is a silver lining in all of this, hopefully what's happened to me will help to raise awareness on this important health issue." Moffitt, 22, of Grimes, Iowa, finished eighth at Atlanta on March 1 while subbing for Vickers in the No. 55. He has competed the past two weekends for Front Row Motorsports, filling in for David Ragan who was tapped to sub for injured Kyle Busch in Joe Gibbs Racing's No. 18 Toyota. Vickers' latest health scare isn't his first. In 2010, he competed in only 11 Sprint Cup Series races before doctors discovered blood clots in his legs and lungs. Vickers also had surgery to repair a hole in his heart -- which doctors repaired with the artificial patch -- and was out the rest of the year. The Thomasville, North Carolina, native made a full recovery for the 2011 season and drove a partial schedule in 2012 for Michael Waltrip Racing, but was sidelined once again in October 2013 for more problems with blood clots. Vickers returned at the 2014 Daytona 500 and drove the full season for MWR before experiencing his latest health emergency a couple weeks before Christmas. On Jan. 21, doctors cleared Vickers to race again -- with the stipulation that he must skip the season-opening Daytona 500 and the following weekend's event at Atlanta Motor Speedway. www.foxsports.com/nascar/story/brian-vickers-blood-clots-brett-moffitt-michael-waltrip-racing-sprint-cup-series-fontana-032015?adbsc=social_20150320_42434736&adbid=578954476360335360&adbpl=tw&adbpr=22199141

Chris Buescher will make his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut this weekend, driving in place of Brett Moffitt in the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Ford, the team announced Friday morning at Auto Club Speedway. Moffitt, who had been slated to drive the No. 34, instead will move to the No. 55 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota. Moffitt is replacing Brian Vickers, who is out with another recurrence of blood clots. Buescher, 22, has one victory, seven top-five and 18 top-10 finishes in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. The Texas native also has an impressive record in ARCA, with 10 victories and 33 top-five finishes in 57 races. "We have no Cup starts so this will be the first," Buescher said Friday. "I've run a lot of Cup test sessions and throughout the years I've done a lot at Roush Fenway on the Cup side, but this will be the first race. The circumstances that bring it about are not ideal. We wish Brian Vickers the best and want to try to do the best we can for Front Row Motorsports now at this point." Buescher is also an XFINITY Series regular, so he'll be pulling double duty this weekend. "We've got qualifying on the Cup side this evening, so everything is going to happen very quickly throughout this weekend," he said. "We still have to put our focus on the XFINITY side. We're in contention to win a championship and we need to make sure that our effort is on that area, but, at the same time, we're more than happy to help out on the Cup side and try to help these guys have a good, solid run and stay up there in points." www.foxsports.com/nascar/story/brian-vickers-sub-brett-moffitt-chris-buescher-auto-club-speedway-sprint-cup-series-032015

This story about teams screwing with the tires is not going away. It appears that Harvick, Busch...maybe logano's teams have been drilling tiny holes in their tires to keep the tire pressure down over long runs. They are going to get some big time penalties if this is proven.

Richard Childress Racing’s appeal of penalties levied against its No. 31 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team will be heard Thursday by the National Motorsports Appeals Panel at the sanctioning body’s Research and Development Center in Concord, North Carolina.
RCR officials are contesting penalties handed down following an audit of tires used by the team during this year’s Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway.
Concern over teams modifying tires, or hardware, to allow air pressure to remain at a more consistent level during a race run, has grown since the closing races of the 2014 season. NASCAR officials have not addressed the specific findings following the investigation of the No. 31 team’s tires, only the resulting penalties.
Driver Ryan Newman and car owner Richard Childress were penalized with the loss of 75 driver and owner points, respectively; crew chief Luke Lambert was fined $125,000, suspended for six Sprint Cup Series points races (as well as any non-points events contested during that time) and placed on probation through Dec. 31; team tire technician James Bender and team engineer Philip Surgen were also suspended for six Sprint Cup Series points races (as well as any non-points events contested during that time) and placed on probation through Dec. 31.
As a result, Newman dropped from sixth to 26th in the points standings. Because the team has appealed the penalties, the suspensions of Lambert, Bender and Surgen have been deferred until the hearing; however, the loss of points for Newman and the team remain in place.
NASCAR officials have conducted tire audits this year following races at Las Vegas, Phoenix, Auto Club and Martinsville, taking tires from several teams for further evaluation at the R&D center. At least some of those taken from the Auto Club race were also sent to an outside group for examination.
Following the announcement of the penalties, RCR president Torrey Galida said the organization “has been one of the most outspoken opponents against ‘tire bleeding’ since the rumors began to surface last season.”
Last week, Childress issued a statement saying his group is “confident we have a very compelling case to present to the appeals panel.
“We strongly believe in the intent of the rules and the integrity of our own teams while following those same rules.”
On March 31, NASCAR penalized the team for violating the following sections of the 2015 NASCAR rulebook:
12.1: Actions detrimental to stock car racing.
20.16: Wheels and tires – A.) Any device, modification, or procedure to the tire or wheel, including the valve stem hardware, that is used to release pressure, beyond normal pressure adjustments, from the tire and/or inner shield, will not be permitted.
20.16.2 Tires – F.) Modifications to the tires, by treatment or any other means, will not be permitted.
Because of the nature of the infractions, the violations are categorized as P5 level, among the most serious in the sport.
A three-member panel will hear the case; should RCR lose its appeal, it has the option of requesting a final appeal before National Motorsports Final Appeals Officer Bryan Moss.
The hearing is expected to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 15.
