I'm thinking this doesn't end well for you. I'll have you know that they used to call me Keeping Connors. That's only because you wouldn't let Mikey Connors out of your basement.

60. Eric ClaptonAs I stated, if this was some sort of "super serious" countdown that was aimed at the masses, Eric Clapton and his influence/importance on the rock and roll genre would probably land him in the Top 20, if not the Top 10. Dude was in like every band there ever was in the 60's, 70's and even the 80's. As it is, he still rocks and Cocaine is a heck of a song. As well as a helluva drug. 59. Steve Miller BandSteve Miller Band was one of my very early favorites. It's a little light for me nowadays but still gets the job done. Just always had an upbeat, funky, positive type sound. Bonus points for Steve Miller being born, RIGHT HERE, in Milwaukee, WI. (Cheap Pop) The Joker is probably my favorite tune and the joker, smoker, midnight toker line became a mantra of sorts. Still. 58. MegadethI always heard that there was kind of a Metallica vs. Megadeth thing going on back in the day and I'm not sure if that's true or not but if it is, Metallica is 100X better in my humble opinion. However that doesn't mean that Megadeth isn't capable of blowing out your speakers, eardrums, or eating your face off. Though it's their most popular, Symphony Of Destruction is my favorite from them by a mile. 57. REO SpeedwagonI missed a lot of their harder, earlier stuff as when I became aware of them it was right smack dab in the middle of their sellout years with Keep On Loving You, Time For Me To Fly and all that. The chicks absolutely dug them. Big time. Between them and Air Supply, I'm not sure who the chicks dug more. Anywho, I dig a lot of their earlier stuff but my absolute favorite REO song is Don't Let Him Go. 56. Billy SquierPretty big in the early 80's but seemed to fall off rather quickly. One of his later songs, She Goes Down, was one of my favs from him. (Motley Crue has a similarly titled song) Even though The Stroke was always a bit creepy to me, I absolutely loved Lonely Is the Night, My Kinda Lover and In the Dark.

55. Paul McCartney & WingsA million times better than the Beatles. Or at least 8 spots in this case. (Maybe I ranked the Beatles a bit too high). Everything about the Wings was what the Beatles weren't. Absolutely loved Band On The Run, Maybe I'm Amazed, With A Little Luck, Live & Let Die, Let 'Em In, and on and on and on. Just didn't seem to have that fruity stench of the Beatles. If you had a choice to party with the Wings or the Beatles, you were definitely partying with the Wings. Either that or you were at the wrong place to be!! 54. RoxetteMaybe not your prototypical rock band but dammitt were they good. Ol' girl was so damn hot in her tomboyish, punk rocker kind of way. Not too mention the Pretty Woman, It Must Have Been Love connection. Pretty Woman is one of my Top 5 movies of all time and it's mostly in conjunction with how many times it got me laid. The Look & Dangerous were mega, mega hits to me. The white t-shirt ol girl was wearing in Dangerous is one of the biggest turn-ons ever. Listen To Your Heart is another "feels" classic. 53. BostonEven to someone that totally loved Boston, all their songs generally sounded the same to me. But that wasn't a bad thing as it all just sounded like one big long awesome song. I saw them at the Monsters of Rock tour in Alpine Valley and they sounded EXACTLY like their studio albums. Which wasn't a bad thing but their stage presence was a bit lacking. If I had to narrow it down I'd say that Smokin' is my favorite tune from them. Not surprisingly. 52. Electric Light Orchestra (ELO)Another one of my very early influences. I haven't really checked their discography but I'm willing to bet that a lot of their heavier, awesome stuff was probably just a bit before my time like in '74, '75ish. Now that I mention it, I'm gonna go look it up....................waiting................searching.............TOLD YA!!! '76 & '77 were huge years for them. Livin' Thing, Turn to Stone, Sweet Talkin' Woman were all produced then. Don't Bring Me Down was a couple years later and then the boys decided to kick it with Olivia Newton-John!! (Xanadu)!! 51. Rod StewartHe sold out like everybody does but his early rock stuff was off the charts in it's own rights. (Even his "sell out" stuff was better than most) Da Ya Think I'm Sexy? was probably my favorite song for a good 2 to 3 year run. That song came out in 1978 when I was 11 1/2 and made me the man that I am today. Maggie May, Hot Legs, Tonight's The Night, You're In My Heart, and then he went into that whole Young Turks, People Get Ready, Forever Young era. Which also didn't suck. Very, Very, Very underrated performer.

I think it's important to take a moment and give credit to 4 bands/artists, that easily could've made the countdown and were either forgotten or just nudged out. Jim CroceDoesn't get much cooler than this cat. I'm also not sure his library necessarily lands him in the rock genre but since there's not a cool cat genre, here he is. Obviously he was taken from us much too young at the age of 30, back in the inexplicable small plane crash era. My favorite is One Less Set of Footsteps. You Don't Mess Around with Jim, Bad, Bad Leroy Brown, I Got a Name, Operator, Time in a Bottle are all fantastic songs. Along with much more of his library. Croce is also the music that my crazy cousin Harry used to blare from his Mustang when he'd take me on rides down some hilly roads, doing like 75, and riding in the middle lane - even when going up a fucking hill!!!!!!!!!!! Dude was/is waaay crazier than me. Jimi Hendrix I don't love a lot of his stuff but I do enjoy several songs of his. I also recognize his magnitude to the genre in the very small time frame that he was able to do his thing. The Hollywood Hogan song is my favorite. ( Voodoo Child) I also love his Star Spangled Banner rendition. He's probably rightthere with Croce, Elvis and DLR in the "cool cat" category. BlondieI don't know if it was disco, punk, rock, rap or what but dammitt I liked it. I liked all the obvious ones like Heart of Glass, One Way or Another, The Tide Is High and Rapture. This was also during the time that you must start to make the decision on whether you prefer good girls or bad girls. And Debbie Harry had somewhat of an influence on which type I'd turn to back in those days. Planet P ProjectThere's two bands in the world that are easily the most underrated of all time and this is one of them. They are the closest thing I've ever heard that comes anywhere even close to replicating the sounds of Pink Floyd. Not that they were even trying to do that but PPP's music reminded me of Floyd a lot. In 1983 they produced the self titled Planet P Project album. I knew every song on that album and loved every damn one of them. In 1984 they produced another album in Pink World. Again I loved a lot of the songs but wasn't as hooked as I was to their first album. Inexplicably, they didn't make another album until 2001.
