New year, new countdown, fellas. This will be the end of me, but much like Survivor Series, I counted down every team simply because the actual product was boring to me. Nothing has changed since then, if anything, it's gotten worse. Therefore I've decided to do this now until Mania, where I will be counting down from worst to first, EVERY SINGLE MATCH in WrestleMania history. There are officially 299, but I added a "match" simply to make it an even 300 (you'll see which one in the first installment). I will do these 10 at a time, so I'll have plenty of time from now until Mania. I was going to do every title match, Taker streak, etc, but that would've been hell. So I'm sticking to actual matches. I'm grading this strictly on the match itself & how entertained I was by it.
So, here we go, God willing, I'll stick with this thing. So I give you, matches 300 through 291! (Oh, and I won't start rambling a bunch until I get into matches I really liked.) Enjoy, let me know what you think!
300. Michael Cole vs Jerry Lawler (WM27) We kick things off with the most embarrassing, drawn out, disaster of a match in Mania, if not, WWE history. Let’s face it, heel Michael Cole ruled, I was a proud Cole Miner, he should absolutely be a heel, he thrives in that role, he’s easy to hate & played the role to a tee. Lawler was a perfect person to stand up to Cole, but, what should’ve been a 3-4 minute throwaway match at Mania (the amount of time you’d give Divas around this time), got nearly 20-25 minutes (15 minutes of actual match & post match shenanigans). Matches with talented wrestlers got cut for time so this nonsense could take place. Sure you have Austin involved, but it didn’t save it. This was by far worse than any match under 60 seconds & worse than Big Show in a thong, sickening I know, we’ll get to that, unfortunately.
299. Stacy Keibler & Torrie Wilson vs The Catfight Dames (WM19) Like I mentioned, this wasn’t as much of a match as it was 4 hot dames scrapping, but I needed filler & there was actually a pin. The Catfight girls didn’t seem to know where they were, as it still bugs me that one of them sounded like she was calling him “HOAK HOGAN” when bickering with the other one about who would win later, McMahon or Hogan. Stacy & Torrie were damn smokeshows during this time, so taking their tops off were what it was all about (I miss you Puppies Era), but it did come with the negative of The Coach get de-pantsed & for some reason pinned? No idea, they didn’t get cheered for that, but once the fans forgot that 3 seconds later & realized they were looking at 4 girls in their bras, they all cheered again, maybe some cheered it was over.
298. Yokozuna vs Hulk Hogan (WM9) Hulk Hogan managed to have the spotlight off himself for 8:55 of the Bret/Yoko title match, only to step in & take over right where he left off, brother! I’ve voiced my displeasure of Hogan on my last list, but the fact that Hogan won the title in 22 seconds from the guy you’ve built since August the previous year, is just shameful. Sure Yoko would regain the belt a few months later, but Terry can promptly F Off due to robbing not only Bret, but Yoko of their Mania moment.
297. Akebono vs Big Show (WM21) I’ll always remember Mania 21, because Adam Sandler & Rob Schneider were in the front row behind the commentary table. Just knowing that both of them had to see Big Show in a thong up close, sort of makes up for having to sit through movies like Jack & Jill, That’s My Boy and Blended. What happened to you Sandler? Stop making garbage! Notice I’ve tried to avoid talking about this Sumo Match by any cost. The professional sumo wrestler won, which shocked no one. It was 1 minute of my life I’ll never get back. Then again, I just spent a few minutes typing this part out, so dammit, egg on my face.
296. Butterbean vs Bart Gunn (WM15) About half the time Akebono took to defeat the Big Show, that’s how much time Butterbean (or Butterball, as I called him back in 1999 when I was a kid) took to beat Bombastic Bart Gunn. The Brawl For All was a damn disaster on the bodies of those who participated in it. It injured guys & ruined planned pushes for others. The late Dr. Death Steve Williams was positioned to be THE guy in this thing, but the Smoking Gunn knocked him out, pretty much forcing WWE’s hand. Bart was fed to Butterball & got nothing out of it. Very disappointing that Gunn did nothing after this, but he’ll always be remembered for his singles run as the guy who wasn’t supposed to win, but did during the Brawl for All……then got KO’d brutally by Butterball.
295. Miss Wrestlemania Battle Royal (WM25) So a 7 minute battle royal eventually won by a guy in drag, sure, whatever. You bring back names like Sunny, Torrie, Molly, hell even Jackie & Joy got the call, but this was a disaster from the get go. It made the WM17 Gimmick Battle Royal look like the 92 Rumble. This match got a spot on the Mania card, but the pre-show was relegated to Carlito & Primo vs Miz & Morrison for the Unified Tag Titles? Bravo booking, bravo……yuck. I don't care to say anything more about this match. Except all it did was make me miss Divas of the past like Torrie & Molly and make me dread a lot of the then current crop of Divas. So many of them deserved better.
294. Kane vs Chavo Guerrero (WM24) This match was booked perfectly. No one wanted a 7-8 minute Kane/Chavo match before Flair & HBK had their incredible showdown. 11 seconds, boom, Kane is your new ECW Champ & La Familia starts to crumble, despite a pretty impressive run by Chavo on the 3rd brand. Nothing more to say about this one. Moving on....
293. Earthquake vs Adam Bomb (WM10) The ongoing feud between Harvey Wipplemann & Howard Finkel was always oddly entertaining. This night was no different, as Finkel, fresh with a new rug thanks to the Hair Club for Men, got manhandled by Adam Bomb for putting his hands on Handsome Harvey. Enter the Earthquake & he just steamrolled him. Powerslam, tremors & teabag the guy for the win. Easy paycheck for the Natural Disaster. I remember Ludvig Borga was listed in the WWF magazine as to be the one facing Earthquake, but got injured early 94 & was released soon after. Wonder if Borga would’ve gone on to beat Quake? Or would Ludvig become just another victim to fall prey to the dreaded Earthquake tea-bagging?
292. Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan (WM28) 1 kiss, 1 kick, 1 title change. That was how Daniel Bryan’s Wrestlemania debut went. Embarrassing one would think, but the work that he & AJ Lee did as a couple leading up to this show, followed by the night after, really got Bryan over. It’s really odd, but this honestly could’ve been the best thing for him, as the YES movement was starting to form & it would become the biggest thing in Bryan’s career, whether the morons in creative wanted to accept it or not. While a 10-12 minute would’ve been pretty solid (I always liked watching these two), I actually really enjoyed what came of this match.
291. Hart Foundation vs Bolsheviks (WM6) Steve Allen interviewing Volkoff & Zhukov in the showers before this match could be one of my all time favorite Mania celebrity moments. He sang “I get a kick from Ukraine” which got a “HEY! That’s not the Russian National Anthem!” I loved that! But I'm ranking the matches themselves unfortunately, so this one was super quick, with Anvil getting annoyed with Nikolai’s singing & that was about it, they didn’t even get their jackets off. Bret mugging for the camera counting the 3 I always thought was cool as a kid. Hart Foundation needed a dominant win, as a few months later; they’d regain the tag titles. The match did what it was intended to do.

Oh I'm fucked, that's for sure.
But I've already ranked the bottom 100 (just have to do a little write up on them). Can't turn back now!

I've decided I'm not going to do these 10 a week until Mania, instead I'm just going to crank them out & post them whenever (2-3 times a week maybe). If I do that & chip away faster it won't seem like such a daunting task. This past weekend I wrote a bunch out & am on 230, this is going to take forever, but when we get to the Top 100, it gets really good, so just bare with me. Anyways here's part 2, enjoy!
290. King Kong Bundy vs SD Jones (WM1) What else can you say about this one, the first squash match in Mania history. I’m not even sure that many squash matches took place on shows period! Bundy flattened, literally, SD Jones & regardless of how much I didn’t really care for Hogan vs Bundy the following year, matches like this made Bundy at least a viable contender, in 1986.
289. Adrian Adonis vs Uncle Elmer (WM2) If there was ever a match that should’ve been 30 seconds, it was this one. Elmer was a terrible wrestler & Adonis was so out of shape at this point, there was no way this was going to be even a decent match. Adonis had a funny character, but his matches in the later parts of his career were pretty awful. This was 3 minutes of terrible, but it should get credit, it’s the worst match on the worst Wrestlemania card ever (Wrestlemania 2). I need to move on quickly.
288. Rey Mysterio vs JBL (WM25) Within 30 seconds, we had a new IC champion & the retirement of honestly, one of the better WWE champs in a while. I never thought the JBL WWE title reign would work, but over time, I really honestly enjoyed it. Cut to a few years later & JBL in the main event wasn’t really entertaining anymore and I actually was looking forward to Rey/JBL, at least for a few minutes. The end was surprising & the retirement I didn’t see coming either. Quick match, but very noteworthy.
287. Red Rooster vs Bobby Heenan (WM5) At first I wondered why this match even took place, aside from I know Rooster & Heenan had a falling out. However, I looked on YouTube & there was a Prime Time Wrestling segment where Heenan & Rooster shook hands to bury the hatchet, but he slapped Rooster & then Steve Lombardi comes in & attacks Rooster with a stool. He even cracked Gorilla Monsoon in the back with the stool! Heenan then introduced Lombardi as “The Brooklyn Brawler.” I had no idea any of that happened! This should’ve gotten more than 30 seconds at Mania! It was a pretty rad segment on Prime Time! Bravo Brain!
286. John Morrison, Trish Stratus, Snooki vs LayCool & Dolph Ziggler (WM27) Ziggler, Morrison, Trish, McCool, even Layla during this time, could all wrestle. Yet, they were regulated to making sure a troll enjoying her 15 minutes of fame. This was mercifully only a few minutes & Snooki hit a springboard back handspring, bravo, Snooki-Smush-Smush, but aside from that, there was nothing else memorable. Then again, Morrison not hugging Trish at the end & being bitter because Melina wasn’t in this match, was pretty friggin petty. C’mon Mundo, you’re better than that.
285. Maven vs Goldust (WM18) Whoever came up with the idea of having Goldust using golden weapons during this match is brilliant. Of course this was still during the 24/7 rule where anyone can win the title & I ranked this as high as I did due to the shenanigans that happened after it. Spike & Crash winning the title, Hurricane literally flying in & winning the title, Mighty Molly turning on her sidekick, knocking him out with a pan, Christian knocking out Molly with a door & finally Maven winning the title match. Funniest spot came when Hurricane stumbled into the Ho’s dressing room & hilarity with a shadow/broom slowly raising ensued.
284. Big Show, Kane, Santino, Kofi Kingston vs The Corre (WM27) The formation of The Nexus was legit one of the most shocking things I had seen in wrestling in a very long time, honestly, can’t think of many other events that were as shocking. However, in the same case though, they dropped the ball on Nexus immediately. They should’ve been unstoppable for months; instead, they lost to Super Cena, immediately. Took all the wind out of their sails. So of course they broke up within a year. The Corre was a half hearted attempt to keep them going, but it didn’t feel special at all. More like it was just to sell t-shirts, which, I don’t even think that happened. How to really put the final nail in the coffin? Have them lose quick to just 4 random guys who just needed a spot on the card. It’s embarrassing to think about what might’ve been. Instead, Barrett is still chugging along in the mid card, Slater barely gets work on Main Event, Gabriel is gone & Big Zeke didn’t last long either. Luckily there’s no more Corre. Why the hell was there an extra R in there? Unsolved mystery I guess?
283. Terri vs The Kat (WM16) Attitude Era brought us a lot of great storylines, amazing matches, some hall of fame moments & some smoking hot ladies. I was always a fan of Terri and her horny she-devil gimmick, mainly because I was a teen during this time. The Kat had an admiration for getting naked, again, for a teenage boy, I fully support that! Neither woman could wrestle a lick, but aside from Val Venis making out with both ladies & Mae Young hitting a bronco buster on Moolah (barf), only memorable moment from this match was Kat ripping the pants off Terri, which almost gave The King a heart attack. (That’s a terrible choice of words now I know, but King was going absolutely crazy at the sight of Puppies!!)
282. Alundra Blayze vs Lelani Kai (WM10) “Million dollar body, but a ten cent face.” I’ll never forget that’s how Jerry Lawler described Alundra on commentary during this match. I liked that the WWF tried to reintroduce the women’s division, but Alundra was literally wrestling old women during the start of her run as champ. Bull Nakano would come in later in the year, but this match was brutal, Lelani Kai brought name value in that this was the 10th anniversary of Mania & she wrestled on the 1st one, but damn, she looked rough. This match screams 80s, as this was the worst
281. Boogeyman vs Booker T & Sharmell (WM22) I believe Lloyd Christmas said it best “I got worms!” That’s literally all Boogeyman brought to the table, worms. How the hell did Scotty 2 Hotty & The Boogeyman not have at least a backstage interaction? Damn, missed opportunity. I digress, between Boogeyman’s terrible in ring work & Sharmell’s ridiculous overacting, what is overlooked was the hilarity of King BOOOO-KAH during this, as I always found him funny. If only this wasn’t a friggin’ Mania match, as after a decent run with the World Heavyweight title the year prior, we have Booker doing job duty to Boogeyman? Smackdown I could see, even a throwaway PPV, but not Mania. Forgettable match, with Booker being wasted in a ridiculous feud.

If you wouldn't have introduced me to this board, I'd be ramming my head through a wall not being able to vent my frustrations with the world of wrestling. And love for PWG & New Japan.
I don't think you've told them. Feel free to let them know. It's pretty interesting (to me & you at least).

Round 3 (which is dominated by Women's matches/catfights)..... 280. Torrie Wilson vs Candice Michelle (WM22)Hot dames scrapping in lingerie, there’s not more to say about this. Aside from this was the fallout from Candice being the Playboy cover girl & turning on Torrie. I remember Torrie rubbed her dog’s ass in Candice’s face in this “match”. Torrie Wilson’s hotness alone (and pretty much that’s it) is why I ranked it as high as I did. Candice was attractive & she liked to kiss Victoria during their entrance, which, bravo, but she brought nothing else to the table at this point honestly. Her “Go Daddy” shtick was old even then. She wouldn’t start wrestling good until a year or so later, then would get injured constantly, came back & was super hesitant, not looking as good. Torrie wins via some attractive bullshit.
279. Melina vs Ashley (WM23)Like I said at the start, these 10 are mostly dominated by the Divas for the most part, as we’re getting into the women’s matches where they were just thrown together randomly with not a care in the world. Either that or like this match & the Diva who was in Playboy that year would get a title shot & the spotlight. Ashley was that Diva in this case & with the stip being a Lumberjill match, just a way to get the women involved in something. Melina falls into the same boat as Layla for me. I wasn’t a fan of her wrestling matches at first, but over time, she got a LOT better & I liked them, then, she got hurt, came back & it wasn’t the same, it was right back to where she was when she first started. This was during the time where I liked her ring work, but Ashley wasn’t a good wrestler, so not much could be done. I’m a guy, so of course I loved Melina’s entrance, but aside from that, this match was, even with literally every Diva on the roster outside of the ring, was a totally forgettable match.
278. Kelly Kelly & Maria Menounos vs Beth Phoenix & Eve Torres (WM28)It’s sad the only thing I remember about this match was Maria’s white pants got bronzer on them & looked like she, well, you know, crapped herself. That’s why you shouldn’t do stink faces to girls lathered in spray tan. Eve was really great heel for Big Johnny during this time & Beth was the best female wrestler on the roster, so having them lose to Kelly & Maria was pretty bad, but I realize the celeb has to go over. It just sucks it had to be at the expense of two of your top women at the time. Maria Menounos, despite having a machine gun for a laugh (brutal), is incredibly hot & unlike many of the other celebrities who have been involved in wrestling, is ACTUALLY A FAN of the business, so I can’t really be too annoyed. It’s not like Snooki, who was just there for a paycheck.
277. Vickie Guerrero Invitational (WM30)I truly think this is the prime definition of the word clusterfuck. Every woman, whether used or not on TV, was in this match. Can’t wrestle, doesn’t matter, you get a Wrestlemania match! If this was AJ vs Nikki vs Brie vs Natalya, this match would’ve been a LOT higher, but it wasn’t. You had Rosa & Layla, who hadn’t been used in months. Summer & Tamina, who were valets/bodyguards. Aksana, Cameron & Eva who were abysmal in the ring. Emma, who, even though I’m a big fan of hers, had been there for a month & had no interaction with AJ, the champion. That really only leaves Foxy, Nattie & The Bellas. It really didn’t help that this match had to follow Brock Lesnar vs The Undertaker, but honestly, it’s sort of a good thing it did, because what type of reaction were they hoping to get in this thing?
276. Laycool, Vickie Guerrero, Alicia Fox & Maryse vs Beth Phoenix, Kelly Kelly, Mickie James, Gail Kim & Eve (WM26)I miss Vickie Guerrero as a character on TV, I am 100% serious about that. When she first became a character, I was like many & thought she wasn’t going to be good at all. Cut to a few years later & here she is the biggest heat magnet in the company & she was for YEARS! Not just months, YEARS! That’s an amazing accomplishment she should be proud of, as this match was really only for Vickie to get her Mania moment. Unfortunately the frog splash, while a pretty great tribute, sort of got botched because Kelly’s shoulder came off the mat & Vickie just started hitting mini-splashes, smothering Kelly awkwardly to get the 3 count. The crowd couldn’t be more silent, but the women’s division didn’t have anything going on at the time, so Vickie getting her moment, I was all for actually.
275. Gimmick Battle Royal (WM17)As someone who started watching wrestling in 1990, I couldn’t wait to see some of my favorites in the ring again. With The Brain & Mean Gene on commentary, I was taken back to the good old days, then the bell rang. At first I was wondering why the Sheik won it, then I realized, it was because he physically couldn’t be tossed over the top rope. It was sad, but nostalgic wise, it was cool seeing guys like Earthquake, Tugboat, Kamala, Doink, Hillbilly Jim & a bunch of others get a final chance on the main stage. Yes it was quick, but I wasn’t expecting a 12 minute deal. Having Sheik win & Heenan’s pick win it all, was the best part. It was almost like after all this time, Heenan finally was right & it was a fantastic moment. Loved the nostalgia, but this match sucked.
274. Torrie Wilson & Sable vs Jackie & Stacy Keibler (WM20)So hot girls trumps nostalgia for me, as it should for anyone. Being in high school when the Torrie/Sable Playboy came out, I mean, c’mon, these 4 (Torrie & Stacy mainly) were some of the hottest chicks in the world. So an Evening Gown Tag Team match at the 20th anniversary of Wrestlemania, the biggest show of the year, it was fantastic. Not to mention, they started the match with their dresses OFF! Even more awesome! Was the match great, not at all, but I wasn't expecting Gotch vs Hackenschmidt, it was about hot chicks scrapping in the ring & that’s exactly what it was. Bravo ladies, bravo. I miss Torrie & Stacy.
273. Skinner vs Owen Hart (WM8)The image of The Rocket backflipping into the ring, turning around & getting a face full of Skinner’s tobacco in his face was one of the grossest things I had seen. Even re-watching this recently, it’s friggin’ gross. This was the first Mania where a majority of the matches actually had a storyline to them, only about 2 or 3 matches on this one had zero to do with anything. Yes, this match could’ve easily been on Prime Time, but it got Owen a quick victory over an established gimmick like Skinner. Quick match, no harm & it was that filler match needed heading into the main event. Despite not being really used in a major role until 2 years later, it was a good way to get Owen back out there.
272. Mountie vs Tito Santana (WM7)The Mountie got off 1 offensive move in this match……and it was using the shock stick on Chico, that was it! Honestly, for a throwaway match, this match served its purpose in less than 2 minutes. I really can’t say much more because literally nothing really happened. Tito was always the guy you could count on to get newer heels over, the year prior it was The Barbarian & this month it was The Mountie. Chico Santana, I know he’s in the Hall of Fame, but I still think is incredibly underrated for what he accomplished in wrestling while he was there.
271. Great Khali vs Kane (WM23)How Khali was ever World Champion, still baffles me to this day. I know Vince loves big guys, but Khali could barely move around the ring even when he first started with the company, so while seeing Khali standing in a faceoff with guys like Rey Mysterio was cool visually, he couldn’t really be a part of a strong feud. I remember very little of this feud with Kane & know it lasted longer than just Mania. I know Kane bodyslammed him, which, I assume could be a callback to Hogan slamming Andre, just with very little significance. Khali won with a chokeslam & choked out Kane with his See No Evil chain & hook afterwards. Sure, why the hell not? Great Khali with a Wrestlemania victory under his belt.

270. Sable vs Tori (WM15) Even back when I was a teen, sure, Sable was one of the hottest women in the world, but even then, I still thought she sucked in the ring. I mean, her feud with Jacqueline wasn’t really wrestling based, more than cat fighting. So when she became women’s champ, the competition was so shallow, she didn’t really need to be a good wrestler. She was hot & that’s all the crowd wanted. Cut to her being a heel, I liked that version more, but this match fell into what I just said, not that good. Tori was a decent wrestler don’t get me wrong, but again, she had her run before getting any competition in the Women’s division. It was really only Jacqueline & Ivory at the time. Sadly (or awesomely whichever you prefer) mid to late 1999 was filled with Pudding, Swimming Pool, Gravy Bowl, Snow Bunny matches, so wrestling ability didn’t mean jack. Sable won thanks to Nicole Bass, who legit looked like someone’s uncle. I can’t say much more. Mooooooving on.
269. David Sammartino vs Brutus Beefcake (WM1) I was negative 2 when this Mania took place & despite watching this Mania within the last 2 years, I remember nothing about this match. This could be a good match, I simply don’t remember so I checked it out & it was nothing to brag about. Brutus was alright, but even after watching it, it's nothing to even mention, it's just there, it just happened. It ended in a double DQ because Bruno got involved with Johnny V, so I guess I lied, I remember that. Everything else, nothing. I liked Brutus’ work with the Dream Team, his pre-Barber days & I liked Bruno, don’t really remember David other than he wrestled Dean Malenko on a random Nitro once. I’m babbling, on to the next one.
268. Undertaker vs King Kong Bundy (WM11) These next two I really was debating ranking higher simply out of respect to The Undertaker. Then I realized, he’s not reading this, so I have no qualms in saying these next two Mania matches were awful. It’s because of the awesomeness that is The Undertaker that they got ranked as high as they did. From about mid 92 through 95, The Undertaker was stuck working with big guys who could barely wrestle or who were past their prime. His willingness to “do business” if you will against guys like King Kong Bundy, who, despite still looking the part, didn’t bring anything to the table other than name value. This was probably the most forgettable of all the Taker Mania matches, which is memorable (if you want to call it that) because Kama came & stole the urn and eventually made a chain out of it (truly gangster for a guy who was supposed to be just an Ultimate Fighter), which I thought was funny as a kid. It led to another feud between Kama/Papa Shango & Taker, which I didn’t realize until later, is something both guys probably loved, because of their Bone Street Krew group of friends. This match wasn’t good.
267. Giant Gonzales vs The Undertaker (WM9)Only reason this got a one spot bump was because of the lunacy that surrounded it. You’re 8 foot tall, towering over the Undertaker & you have to resort to chloroform to knock Taker out? God bless the commentators who put over the “smell” so ridiculously well, they were outside & in Vegas for heaven sake, which already has a smell. But, chloroform? Seriously? Of course it caused a DQ by the ref, as c’mon, it specifically says in the rules, no knocking your opponent out with chloroform soaked rag. It always baffled me because El Gigante wasn’t all that bad of a wrestler in WCW; he came to the WWF & was terrible. Maybe the giant fake body suit messed him up? No clue, Taker stumbled back out through the curtain & was able to stand tall, which goes to show you how cheap of chloroform Harvey Wippleman bought. It’s Wrestlemania Harvey, spring for the good stuff!
266. Chyna vs Ivory (WM17) It’s weird, Chyna’s biggest downfall (aside from her ego) was when she started feuding with women. She was such a physical presence that, despite the talents of Ivory, Lita, Molly, etc, it just didn’t look right, because anything else other than a Chyna squash would be unbelievable. I understand completely why this was a squash against Ivory, it should’ve been. The storyline kept her off TV for a few months & this was the big payback for her & the Right to Censor. Aside from that, nothing much happened after this match. Chyna left the company a few months later, after steamrolling the women’s roster & really couldn’t accomplish that much more. This was pretty much her last high profile match. Bravo to the underrated Ivory, who made this match look at least believable.
265. Jake Roberts vs George Wells (WM2) Any match in the Nassau Coliseum during Wrestlemania 2 immediately gets low ranking due to the terrible commentary by Susan St. James. Her & Vince did commentary for the New York matches and they were awful, simply awful. If you watch this match on mute, then fine, maybe bump it up a couple spots, but not much. Jake was heel here & I feel his work as a heel when he first came into the WWF is forgotten. His heel work in 91 is always talked about, but he was solid here. George Wells was fine here, but nothing special. Susan St. James said it best when Jake went for Damien post match “Oh no, I can’t watch this.” She was absolutely right, this Wrestlemania sucked, but the commentary was even worst. Oh yeah, post match, Wells essentially spit up so badly it looked like he was foaming at the mouth. Something Vince & Susan were horrified by.
264. Corporal Kirchner vs Nikolai Volkoff (WM2) Nothing like a 2 minute Flag Match to really get the crowd rocking! We stick at Mania 2 here for the very forgettable Corporal Kichner vs Nikolai as it lasted 2 minutes and was nothing more than a filler match that became a staple for about the first 7 or so Manias. USA won over Russia & that’s legit all I can say about it. Kirchner was forgettable & Volkoff would team with Sheik for another year before teaming up with Boris after that. USA! USA! USA!
263. Dino Bravo vs Texas Tornado (WM7)I remember whenever I watched Wrestlemania 7 I would always get bummed at this match. Yes its filler, but it was with two guys who died in early 1993 when I was still a little kid. Add to that the way they both passed away & it makes it even sadder. Both were solid workers, but Tornado’s best days were in World Class and Bravo was more or less a job guy at this point. Aside from occasional Superstars & Prime Time wins, they’d essentially be used as enhancement guys until they left the company. I’m glad Von Erich got recognized for his time in World Class (despite not being huge on it, the dvd that WWE released got me into watching more & more). Dino on the other hand, honestly, I think gets overlooked. He filled the role perfectly well as Canada’s Strongest Man and was a reliable hand. Shame both are gone.
262. Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff vs The Killer Bees (WM3)Wrestlemania 3, the year I was born, so when I saw this Mania on VHS growing up, I had a legit question pertaining to Blair & Brunzell. “So, they’re bees?” I never got it, why the hell would you want to be a bee? I liked their matches, that’s not the issue, but bees? British Bulldog’s have a dog, got it, Jake the Snake had a snake, right, but Blair & Brunzell, are bees? Was it simply because their names ended in the letter B? Did everything HAVE TO be animal related? You didn’t see Roma & Powers come out on horses as the Young Stallions. So to make them bees, they had them put on masks to make them……look like bees? WHY?!?!? Anyways, this match happened & good old Jim Duggan came out to talk about how great America was to rival Volkoff’s love for the Soviet National Anthem. He got involved, got the Bees DQ’d & all of us were robbed 5 minutes of our lives. Thanks Hacksaw. Hell of a way to generate buzz for the main event that followed. Get it, buzz, cause they’re fucking bees!!!
261. Jim Duggan vs Bad News Brown (WM5) Hell of a transition to Hacksaw as this simply wasn’t a wrestling match, you weren’t going to get anything resembling such in this one. This was a brawl that of course ended without a winner, as most Bad News Brown matches did. I looked it up on ProFightDB and aside from a Summerslam win over Ken Patera (who had a haircut of that of a female bowler) in 1988, all of his single PPV matches ended in double countouts or double disqualifications. I mean, I’ve mentioned how reliable this dude was in Survivor Series matches, but if you were wrestling him on a PPV, you know full well you weren’t getting a clean finish. It’s a bummer he never leveled Hacksaw with the Ghetto Blaster, but for what this match was, eh, it’s alright. Typical Bad News & typical crazy Duggan.

260. Butch Reed vs Koko B. Ware (WM3)I had read that Butch Reed was supposed to be Intercontinental champion at one point, but for some reason instead Honky Tonk Man got the nod. Reed no showed the night the title was supposed to change hands. What a dummy! Ricky Steamboat wanted to spend more time at home with his family, so Vince needed a new talent to hold the title & Reed was going to be that man. Could you imagine had that happened? Honky held the IC title for well over a year & Vince reportedly was going to put the IC title back on Savage, but Honky refused & instead Savage got the World title, something that Ted Dibiase was supposed to get. So Dibiase ended up getting his own Million Dollar Title, Savage was WWF Champ, Honky was IC champ & it’s all because Butch Reed no showed the night he was going to win the title. How’s that for a fucking story in the 260th spot? Oh yeah, Reed beat Koko in his PPV debut in a very below average match. I didn't really like it, but I liked the guys involved.
259. Fabulous Moolah vs Velvet McIntyre (WM2)Cathy Lee Crosby (remember her? I’ll let you Wikipedia her……alright….) did commentary for this match with Gorilla & Mean Gene. That’s not even the worst part of this one, as the match itself was complete garbage. Couple of hair drags by Moolah, missed splash by McIntyre & a pin by Moolah, that’s it. I ranked this one higher than the other women matches simply because, regardless of how bad it was, it involved two women’s wrestlers in a wrestling match. I actually didn’t mind Velvet McIntyre during the late 80s, but this match was brutal. Moolah was tougher than any woman in the company, sure, but even then Moolah was looking pretty old & seeing her go over on these younger girls, looked weird.
258. Tito Santana vs The Executioner (WM1)Here it is, the very first match in Wrestlemania history & it’s……..a completely forgettable one! I’ve said what I think about Tito Santana & him not getting enough recognition in how good he was (despite being in the Hall of Fame), but for a show that was going to make or break the McMahons, this wasn’t really the hot start anyone would have envisioned. Chico vs a masked Buddy Rose for about 5 minutes. Granted Tito was over with the crowd, but I don’t know, just didn’t care for this match at all. Tito’s Mania matches were much better than this one. The historical meaning behind this match being the first Mania match ever holds more weight than the match itself, by a long shot.
257. Terry & Hoss Funk vs JYD & Tito Santana (WM2)Well, not that much, as the following year he had a really random tag match with Mr. Grab Them Cakes to team against the crazy Funks. I have watched a LOT of old WWF from the mid 80s, but really don’t remember much about Terry Funk being there all that much. I simply ranked this higher because Tito teamed with a Hall of Famer in JYD, who was a solid performer & took on Terry and Dory Funk, one of the best tag teams in the world, even if this was during the later stages for them as a team. I wonder what would’ve happened had Terry & Dory teamed for longer than they did in the WWF? Wonder if they’d have become tag champs? Hart Foundation vs The Funks? That would’ve been interesting.
256. Paul Orndorff vs Magnificent Muraco (WM2)After literally watching Wrestlemania 2 a couple of weeks ago, I don’t even remember this match being on the card, so I watched it again online. It’s an incredibly average match, nothing special, the sole reason I ranked it as high as I did was due to the fact that it’s on the worst Mania in the history of Mania’s & these two I really enjoyed their work. Two Hall of Famers who I thought almost should’ve accomplished more, but simply due to the era they were in, the main spots were dominated by other people, so I think they accomplished what they could in the WWF. Orndorff main eventing the first Mania was his peak in the company, while Muraco’s run with Fuji as IC champ I’d say was his. Very forgettable match, but my appreciation of both guys lets this match get the bump.
255. Beth Phoenix & Melina vs Ashley & Maria (WM24)Ok, so Beth Phoenix is probably in my Top 5 favorite female women wrestlers of all time. Everything about her I loved. It’s just a shame she got stuck in stinker Mania matches. However this was during the Playboy days & she gets stuck with Melina teaming against the cover girls. I was never a big Ashley fan, never really into the punk look, I’m not blind, she was gorgeous, just never really that big of fan of hers. Now on the other hand, I loved Maria, she was awesome. Looks, character, everything. She couldn’t wrestle that great, but damn was she swell to look at. It just seemed like after the Santino break up they just had her bounce from guy to guy (they paired her with Matt Hardy for goodness sake). She deserved more. Anyways, the match was more notable because of Snoop Dogg getting involved with Santino & him kissing Maria after. Wonder if young Sasha Banks was backstage during this time?
254. Legion of Doom vs Power & Glory (WM7)Power & Glory was one of the most underappreciated tag teams the WWF had in the early 90s. I said this in the Survivor Series countdown, but had it not been for the Nasty Boys & LOD, I really think Power & Glory and the Rockers would’ve gotten runs with the title, even if they were short ones. Speaking of short, this was pretty much the final nail in the coffin for Herc & Jerk, as they were absolutely steamrolled by Hawk & Animal. As a fan even as a kid of Power & Glory, it was a huge bummer. Did I think they would win? Absolutely not, but damn, zero offense. That’s what they’ve fallen to. I know it was to make the LOD look dominant & they were, but I wish it had been at the expense of a different team. Orient Express maybe?
253. ShoMiz vs R-Truth & John Morrison (WM26)ShoMiz was an incredibly underrated team in my honest opinion. Miz was the mouth, Show was the muscle. That’s literally all you could ask for in a perfect heel team. It’s just a bummer that not only was the tag division so incredibly shallow at this point; this match barely went 3 minutes. It’s nothing against Truth & JoMo, it’s that this match was destined to be forgettable right from the start. It felt less like ShoMiz looking dominant & more like let’s just get this match over with, we’ve got better things to put out there. All 4 guys deserved more time, but ShoMiz deserved better challengers. They would’ve had the tag division been stronger.
252. Too Cool vs WGTT vs Bashams vs APA (WM20)Speaking of dying tag division, we get to the 1st of two Fatal 4 Way tag matches for titles at WM20. Rikishi & Scotty 2 Hotty, even in 2004, were the most outdated tag team probably on the roster, well one of, if Bradshaw & Faarooq weren’t still kicking. Granted this was just about the time we’d be introduced to JBL, but this was essentially their swan song. Also, Shelton Benjamin would get drafted to Raw the next night, ending that team as well. So this match was pretty damn pointless. If only they had a pre-show, this could’ve been on it & they could’ve given the Cruiserweights more time in their match (more on that later). Rikishi sits on his opponent & gets the win. Big whoop. Yes they had tag teams during this time, it’s just dated, bad ones.
251. Big Bossman & Bull Buchanan vs Godfather & D’Lo (WM16)This match was pretty much a commercial for the WWF rap album they came out with around this time, as Ice-T rapped D’Lo & the Godfather to the ring with the ho’s. Just thinking about this match makes Ice-T rapping “Pimpin’ Ain’t….Pimpin’ Ain’t…..Easy Man” like 97 times in a row incredibly annoying. If there was any redeeming factor in this match, it was Bull Buchanan looked great & showed he had one hell of a legdrop from the top. Pretty surprising to see him & the Bossman pick up the win in the opener, but in a match that would’ve been fine on Smackdown, it served its purpose I guess on this card.

DOUBLED UP WITH THIS POST! Here's the next 20!
250. D’Lo & Test vs Owen Hart & Jeff Jarrett (WM15) The tag team division wasn’t necessarily weak during this time, it’s just that no one was on the level of Owen & Jarrett. The New Age Outlaws you could say were, but this was during the weird time where Billy Gunn was wrestling for the Hardcore title & Road Dogg for the IC belt. All the other teams, along with a bunch of random dudes not doing anything, were thrown together in a battle royal on Sunday Night Heat & the remaining two, got a shot at the tag titles at Mania. So you had Test from the Corporation & D’Lo Brown, with his new manager Ivory, taking on the established Owen & Jarrett, with the smoking hot Debra, who was wearing essentially a bikini to the ring. That’s the most notable thing about this match, as Debra’s looks far surpassed this match. D’Lo & Test didn’t get along & the champs retained easily, making this entire thing pretty worthless, but hey, I’m a teenager at the time & I got to see Debra and the Puppies, so, not too bad.
249. Tazz & APA vs Right to Censor (WM17) I really like the RTC & I wish they had gone on longer, but with the Invasion looming, they really ran their course at this point & really didn’t need repackaging. This wasn’t really a culmination of any feud more so than just a match between a group of dudes who had a brief run in, essentially your typical PPV build (barely any), but it felt a bit off because of how big of the card it was on. I truly wonder if this wasn’t in Texas, would it still have taken place? Bradshaw was the hometown boy & they even had Jacqueline in their corner too, hometown girl. The APA was still popular, but it’s a shame how little they did with Tazz in the WWF as a wrestler. Within a few months of him being there, he was already pegged as a Hardcore wrestler. Then he had that weird heel run against The King & JR, then he randomly teamed with Raven, then he was a face. It’s like WWF couldn’t set aside that this dude came from ECW & couldn’t just let him be a killer. Oh well, the match was quick, harmless, probably should’ve been on a different PPV, but the crowd cheered any & everything this night, so no biggie.
248. Trish Stratus vs Christy Hemme (WM21) Again, chalk it up to flavor of the month, as this was the first “you get the cover of Playboy, you get a Mania match” tradition as former Man Show “Juggy” Christy Hemme got the honor this year against Trish Stratus, who was just out of this world attractive & in her prime in the ring as well. Sadly this match was overshadowed by the fact that this was right when the Matt Hardy/Edge/Lita stuff was being revealed. This was 1 week prior to Hardy being released & it was just weird trying to cheer Lita when she had done a pretty shitty thing. Anyways, the match was mediocre, despite Christy trying her best, she was just too green to be in such a spot. Then again, Trish wiped out the division essentially, as Christy was honestly the most viable option. Not sure what that says about the Women’s Division during this time.
247. Wendi Richter vs Lelani Kai (WM1) Take Cyndi Lauper out of the equation & this wouldn’t be ranked as high. She played a key factor in the success of the 1st Wrestlemania, kicking off the Rock n’ Wrestling Era. Aside from that, this match is incredibly forgettable. I can’t really say much about it, because I can’t remember barely anything about it. I could make multiple dumb Cyndi Lauper puns, but I’d just fail time after time…………..boom.
246. Doink & Dink vs Bam Bam Bigelow & Luna Vachon (WM10) If you can believe it, Doink stuck around until mid 95. Even at this point, he felt so outdated. I think right as he turned face and gained a little buddy, he jumped the start. Do we blame Matt Borne for getting fired for drug issues for that, or was the plan all along to turn Doink into a face? I absolutely loved heel Doink & thought they could’ve done so much more with him. But the kid friendly New Generation wouldn’t allow that & instead, luckily, we got a squash match with Bammer & Luna destroying the clowns. I always remember this match because Bigelow almost ripped Dink’s mask off when he dove at him & the end result was Dink’s mask was all jacked up. This feud started in November & lasted all the way until Mania. Ugh, poor Bam Bam, bet he was happy to move on with a different feud. It’s sad that the only person alive in this match is Dink. I know Matt Borne wasn’t the Doink in this match, but he was the original & it’s sad, he, Bam Bam & Luna have all passed.
245. Hillbilly Jim, Haiti Kid & Little Beaver vs King Kong Bundy, Little Tokyo & Lord Littlebrook (WM3) Ok, so Wrestlemania 3 on VHS was the first time as a child I was shocked by something as a toddler in the world of wrestling. Not scared (that was Jake Roberts & Randy Savage with the snake bite thing), but shocked. When I saw Bundy squash Little Beaver with a splash on VHS, I was legit shocked. Bundy was just so massive & Beaver….wasn’t. I was never a big Hillbilly Jim fan, his character was good hearted & I had no reason not to like him, I just never was into the “don’t go messin’ with a country boy” gimmick. Bundy was awesome, but I think was overlooked due to Andre being there too. Also I think he was thrusted into the Mania 2 main event & wasn’t close to being ready. The little guys ganging up at the end was pretty great though.
244. Floyd Mayweather vs Big Show (WM24) Let me make this clear, Floyd Mayweather the man, is a giant piece of shit. Floyd Mayweather the sports entertainer in this case, wasn’t bad at all. It was nothing more than a publicity stunt for WWE to get more eyes on Mania & it honestly probably should never have happened, knowing Big Show had no chance, but it was what it was. Mayweather at least seemed remotely interested in the role (money played a part in that I assume) which is something you can’t say about most celebrities at Mania (sex tape star Kim Kardashian was the “hostess” of this Mania, which, they would’ve gotten more production out of an actual Hostess cupcake). The build up for this match was fine & you knew shenanigans would have to happen to make it even remotely believable. It did & luckily we’ve only had to see him once on a Raw since then. Dude was paid a rumor $20 million for this fight. Seriously, this guy can go F himself. Phenomenal boxer, shitty human being. Make sure you keep supporting him though WWE (don’t be a bully……how does the rest go? Seems they only remember when it’s convenient)
243. Genichiro Tenryu & Fred Kitao vs Demolition (WM7) Why the hell is this match ranked as high as it is? Easy, because of Tenryu’s partner, who, according to The Brain on commentary was named, Fred. Fred Kitao. Solely for that reason, it gets the bump in the rankings. I couldn’t stop laughing at the Brain during this match. Absolutely a throwaway/sloppy match, with Demolition finishing up & jobbing to two guys who wouldn’t be used after this (Tenryu would be in Rumbles a few years later). Chalk up a Mania victory for Fred Kitao. 1-0!!
242. Roddy Piper vs Bad News Brown (WM6) So, Roddy Piper went half black face for this one. It was awkward & it doesn’t get less awkward the more you watch; if anything, it gets worse. It’s a Bad News Brown match, so of course it was a double countout, but that wasn’t the issue here. Roddy even put on a Michael Jackson glove, did a Billie Jean dance & decked Bad News with a closed fist, that’s call for a DQ, but whatever. The best part of this match was apparently Andre the Giant & Arnold Skaaland poured out the stuff that was supposed to wipe off the black paint & replaced it with water. So Piper had to go through the airport with half black face & his skin was fucked up from rubbing the paint off so hard. That’s an amazing rib, sadly this match though was anything but.
241. Ultimate Warrior vs HHH (WM12) I loved it as a kid, but even as a teen, I realized how much bullshit this was. Look, I’m not the world’s biggest Triple H fan, but he wasn’t the guy to throw out there in this case. He had been around for about a year (Fun fact: I got to see Trips actual WWF debut at a TV taping I went to in 95) & despite not being a top guy by any means, it sucks that he had to take the bullet here. Now, it was Warrior, so I 100% understand his shtick, run to the ring, fuck shit up, pin, leave. However, this wasn’t 1990, this was 1996 & honestly, this was the only match that was quick he had in his return. I looked it up on ProFightDB and he only wrestled 8 times total in his return. He no sold the Pedigree & squashed Hunter. Some might think it was fine because Trips was on the Mania card, yeah, but at what cost? I know it doesn’t really effect much, but it resonates though & a shame. Luckily Warrior was gone within months & Trips moved on to taking yet another bullet for the Kliq’s departure to WCW. Did this happen because Hall & Nash were leaving and Vince was pissed? Who knows.
240. Randy Savage vs George Steele (WM2) Only in the WWF would a creepy, hairy, bald headed, green tongued weirdo, best friend is a teddy bear & is obsessed with a pretty valet, would be considered the good guy. I never got the George Steele character, ever, even as a kid. Even watching back at old videos, I never got it. So I watched this match again & damn, this match wasn’t good by any means, but boy could Randy Savage tell a story with anyone, which is why he remains my all time favorite wrestler. It sucks that I have to rank a Savage match this low, but man; this just isn’t a good match. Sorry Mach.
239. Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar (WM20) The match itself was a steaming pile of dog crap, I don’t care if you’re a diehard Lesnar or Goldberg fan, you can’t deny that. Had it not been for the MSG crowd completely tearing into this match (and rightfully so), I would’ve ranked it even lower, much lower in fact. Both guys were leaving & everyone knew about it. The person to watch in this match is Stone Cold Steve Austin, as his reactions were priceless. He was already one of the most over guys of all time, throw him into this situation & forget about it, anything Austin would do against either man would cause the crowd to go nuts. I had to look up how long this match was & it’s 13 minutes, which felt like 45. Brutal & not hard hitting brutal, but the terrible kind of brutal.
238. Dino Bravo vs Ronnie Garvin (WM5) Rugged Ronnie Garvin’s run in WWF was one of the most forgettable runs ever. His stuff in the NWA was entertaining & he’s a solid worker, but damn, he did nothing in the WWF. He had a running feud with Greg Valentine & Dino Bravo that was it. I liked Dino Bravo’s work & honestly thought he was underrated at the time. He was a mound of muscle & could slap together a decent match. Overall there’s nothing really wrong about this match, aside than its super forgettable. Case & point, that's the best picture I could find about this match on Google images.
237. Ultimate Warrior vs Hercules (WM4) This was a weird match to take place on this card, but they had to get Warrior over on the show, so I guess it did what it was meant to do. This show was dominated by the tournament, so they needed breathers from time to time, so throwing two of the most jacked up dudes in the company into the ring made sense. The image of Warrior spinning the chain of Herc around his head I still remember. And now I remember it, I wish he would’ve had it fly out of his hands & level Donald Trump in the front row. Had that happened, this match would’ve made the top 10 easily. It is sad that both Herc & Warrior have passed away & Trump is healthy as a horse, running for President (and I pray failing when it’s all over).
236. Mr. T vs Roddy Piper (WM2) So this was the infamous boxing match. It wasn’t great by any means, but the uniqueness of it was what made it entertaining. Heel Roddy Piper was insane, so damn good, so him leveling Mr. T with a stool was great too. I’d like to think him cracking T with the stool marked the end of the Rock n’ Wrestling era. Maybe not, but whatever, good moment regardless. Oh & this was around the time that Orton & Piper took the Haiti Kid hostage, friggin’ hysterical.
235. Jim Duggan vs Dino Bravo (WM6) Jim Duggan wins via Old Glory 2x4 attack. Jim Duggan gets squashed by the tyrannical teabagger Earthquake after the match is over, multiple times. The best part of this thing was Dino Bravo running around the ring like a mad man while it was happening. This was the show that really got Earthquake going and even this match, which really had nothing to do with him, made him look strong. More on his actual match later, which, you might be surprised how high I have it ranked. Screw you, it’s my list & I was an Earthquake fan, you’ll see.
234. Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant (WM4) This match sucked, plain & simple, yet because it was Andre & Hogan, probably the biggest rivalry of the 80s for the WWF, the name value alone would’ve ranked it higher, but again, it’s the match, which was terrible. Both guys got byes, which resulted in a double DQ. Yes it allowed someone else to win the tournament, but what a weird end to the Hogan/Andre feud, which this is what it was. Their final faceoff was a double DQ. It’s a bummer. Luckily both dudes were involved in the main event in some capacity, so it wasn’t really the last time, but you know what I mean.
233. Allied Powers vs The Blu Brothers (WM11) This was the definition of mid 90s WWF & if a Mania in the mid 90s was going to have an opener, it was going to be a Brit & a dude with a failed Mr. America gimmick team against 2 mountain men. There is nothing that stands out in this match, except that Bulldog & Luger actually were a pretty solid team. I’m kind of surprised they didn’t give them at least a couple month run as tag champs. I mean, Luger’s main event push was over & Bulldog was still super over, I didn’t think their matches against Owen & Yoko weren’t that bad, which is why I was kind of surprised they didn’t win against them. This was their first showcase & it was fine for what it was.
232. Can-Am Connection vs Magnificent Muraco & Bob Orton (WM3) The ol’ Canned Ham Connection of Ricky Martel & Tom Zenk were such a forgettable team, that when I first watched Wrestlemania 3 as a kid, I had no idea they were ever a thing. I also, legit thought Fink announced them as Canned Ham. It baffled me, because I was a dumb little kid, so I didn’t put Canada & America together in my tiny little brain. Luckily I found out about their real name when I was like 18. I’m a moron. Typical opener, I have no idea why Zenk & Martel didn’t tag more, but had they, we wouldn’t have gotten Strike Force, which means we wouldn’t have gotten Girls In Cars entrance theme, which was the 80-est theme ever. Hooray Piledriver: The Album!
231. The Shield vs New Age Outlaws & Kane (WM30) Holy smokes what a waste of 3 young guns. I understand running through 3 legends is a good notch on the belts of 3 future superstars, but at the 30th anniversary, it sucked that all Rollins, Reigns & Ambrose got to do was have a 3 minute squash. It did what it was intended to do. I wish they did more, but then again, I didn’t really want this match to be a 10 minute thing (or happen at all for that matter). Strong showing for The Shield, I just wish it was against younger, current guys on the roster. Shit, I just looked & I have 230 matches left to type out little blurbs about. The hell am I doing?

Next 15 (I'm trying to get back on track & time it so the final one will be on Mania. There are some doozies in this one, I felt dirty looking up the Bushwhackers/Rougeaus gif on Google)
230. Billy Jack Haynes vs Hercules (WM3) Out of all the weird costumes that wrestlers wore in the late 80s, I never got on board with Billy Jack Haynes & his Undertaker-esque hat, his choker he wore & the Oregon jacket. It was an odd look. Then again, Hercules was rocking the chains with the Brain in his corner. This match wasn’t great, but is memorable for the blade job by Billy Jack after getting leveled with the chain by Herc. Haynes was super bloodied in this, but what annoyed me the most was he locked Hercules in a Full Nelson on the outside of the ring & both men were subsequently counted out. It made Haynes look silly. Herc got the beatdown post match, but it left a “Really?” thought in my mind as I watched it.
229. Bushwhackers vs Fabulous Rougeau Brothers (WM5) Why does this match get such a high rating? Because I was almost in tears recently re-watching this match, as I believe it was Luke of the Bushwhackers, gets picked up by Raymond Rougeau for a bodyslam. What followed, is what I can only describe as Luke giving Raymond's balls a handshake, as you can see from the gif I provided. That’s the most memorable part of the match & it remains hysterical after all these years. Was this the orgins of the Balls-plex? Candice LeRae does it much better. Regardless, this match was a stinker, but had it not been for a Bushwhacker giving a Rougeau a hand jibber mid bodyslam, I probably would’ve ranked this much lower.
228. Earthquake vs Greg Valentine (WM7) Well, from one dude grabbing another dudes crotch, to a massive 400 pounder who defeated his opponent by putting his junk in their face. Smooth transition that is if I do say so myself. The falling out between Valentine & Jimmy Hart I really didn’t understand. With Honky Tonk Man gone, the Rhythm & Blues team was over & The Hammer wasn’t going to do much more. So this match was another late 80s early 90s specialty & just thrown on the card. Quake was a monster & Valentine was an idiot in this one. He constantly kept going for the Figure Four, despite Quake’s legs being too big. It’s not like he was going to miraculously make him lose weight in his ankles mid match. C’mon Hammer, with that logic, it’s no wonder you got squashed.
227. Harley Race vs JYD (WM3) Back to the Silverdome we go as this was a harmless match featuring two future Hall of Famers, as the Loser Must Bow was the stipulation. Quite simply, shenanigans by The Brain, allowed The King to get the win & JYD did a half assed bow before leveling Race with a chair. The most memorable image came as the Dog posed with the cape & crown. I actually always liked that shot; it was probably my favorite image of JYD in his WWF run. The Brain with a rare victory on this night as well.
226. Bret Hart vs Mr. McMahon (WM26) For nostalgic sake, sure, this match on paper was amazing. However, when you added every single damn Hart family member in attendance into the match, it starts to lose a little bit of its luster. I know it was so the family could get revenge on Vince, but was Bruce as referee needed? Hell no, no one knew or cared about Bruce at this time. I loved the Hart Dynasty spot on Vince, a Super Hart Attack off the top to the floor, but even that wasn’t needed. Were we supposed to believe the Hart Family sided with Vince at the start of this match? So dumb. Vince paid off the family & they told Bret about it, put the money in the back & screwed Vince. Ugh. In the history books it looks cool saying Bret Hart defeated Vince McMahon, but it was just so overdone. Vince had far better matches against HBK, Hogan & Shane-O-Mac. But then again, those guys could bump (Hogan barely), while Bret couldn't.
225. Ted Dibiase vs Don Muraco (WM4) I know a bunch of the WM4 tournament matches were essentially throwaway matches, but I actually liked them a lot. So you’ll be surprised to see how high I ranked some of the other ones. As for this one, Dibiase should’ve won the title this night, but as we’ve became accustomed to, the face ends Mania with the title, plain & simple. Dibiase was the most deserving as I think everything he did up to this point was fantastic. Have him win the title this night & have Savage win it at Summerslam, your first ever of that show, but whatever. What matters was Dibiase looked fantastic in this entire tournament & despite Muraco being jacked to the gills; it wasn’t that bad of a match.
224. ECW Originals vs The New Breed (WM23) Ugh, yuck, I hated everything about the Originals vs New Breed feud. CM Punk turned heel one week & started to infiltrate the New Breed & try to start turning them on each other, but it didn’t really work & here he’s teaming with the Originals. Never really liked ECW-WE around this time as I started watching it towards the end surprisingly around when Mark Henry was ECW champ (Sexual Chocolate = ratings). I honestly wouldn’t have minded Punk staying heel for a brief time & we had Punk vs RVD, but whatever. This was a very forgettable match……..THAT WAS A NORMAL 8 MAN TAG!! This wasn’t Extreme Rules, let’s remember that. That’s what you want from ECW, a regular 8 man tag at the biggest show of the year! BOOOO!!
223. Jake Roberts vs Andre the Giant (WM5) Here’s an odd sentence, I loved how Andre choked Jake Roberts. Let me explain, as Andre was known to just wrap his mitts around his opponent & choke the hell out of them. Jake sold the shit out of this & I loved it. This was an incredibly entertaining feud for how brief it was, but it was overshadowed by the feud that was like 5 years old between guest referee Big John Studd & Andre. Yes, the same Royal Rumble winner of that year Big John Studd. Now, I have no idea why Studd won the Rumble, was he going to have one more run, but wasn’t healthy enough? I don’t know how that’d look like, but this match was just watered down by Studd as the referee. Finally Andre attacked Studd & that was it. So much more could’ve been done with this match, but sadly it didn’t. Which is why I ranked it so low.
222. JYD vs Greg Valentine (WM1) I forgot this was a title match, I also forgot Greg Valentine was the IC champ, I forgot that JYD was even challenging for this title & I also forgot that he won via countout. Again, not a strong showing for your champion on your do or die show, but that’s what The Hammer did. I guess the best word to describe this match would be forgettable. JYD’s popularity in the Rock n’ Wrestling Era really had him positioned as a strong fan favorite & honestly, it wouldn’t have hurt anyone had JYD won the title on this night. Have the Hammer win it back in a month or two. I think that would’ve gotten the crowd into it more. Instead, it was the mid 80s, so cheap finishes for champions was the norm.
221. Rocky Maivia vs The Sultan (WM13) Was the roster that thin that The Sultan was the only choice at getting this spot? His gimmick was over (by over I mean finished, not as in over with the fans) around January. He was still puttering around in March/April. Around this time the Die Rocky Die chants kicked in & they were stuck with the young gun as well. So nothing about this match gelled as it just seemed like one of those matches that should’ve happened on Mania 11, not 2 years later. Not the way the Rock wanted to really get going in Mania moments, but he got to have a moment with his father & Tony Atlas, so I guess it was ok. What wasn’t ok was The Sultan getting this spot. So many other options, anyone, could’ve filled the role. I have to imagine it was because it was Rikishi as to why he got the nod. Samoan vs Samoan guy dressed as an Iraqi henchman, you know, the normal.
220. Nikolai Volkoff & The Iron Sheik vs The US Express (WM1) Because when you think of patriots to defend America’s honor against foreigners, you think of Mike Rotunda & Barry Windham, baby!!! Granted it was a few years before my time, but the most memorable thing about The US Express was seeing Windham & Rotunda singing Land of 1000 Dances with the rest of the WWF roster. My God that was ridiculous, yet amazing at the same time. Anyways, back to the match, it was pretty sloppy, but fit the mold for tag matches around this time. I was never a big Sheik/Volkoff fan, but they drew serious heat with their characters & being managed by Blassie. I’d say this one wasn’t that memorable aside from the heels winning the titles in just under 7 minutes, not a major statement for your tag division, but this show was primarily sold on the co-main & main events for the 1st WrestleMania.
219. The Undertaker vs Big Show & Albert (WM19) The enigma that was Nathan Jones & why in the world he got a spot on this card, or, was originally supposed to, is something that still baffles me to this day. Here’s this new kid on the block, thrown into a Mania match after being in the WWE for less than a month or two & not only that, he teams with the Undertaker? So when the time came, it was no surprised that Jones got laid out by……Nunzio, Johnny Stamboli & Chuck Palumbo on Sunday Night Heat prior to the match. Taker, even in a handicap match, seemingly steamrolled Show & A-Train. Yes they worked him over, but, c’mon, even 2 on 1, you knew Taker would win this. Nathan Jones did show up eventually & deliver a pretty sweet roundhouse kick at the entrance to the ring. Other than that, Taker was dominant & not much more could be said.
218. Money Inc vs Mega Maniacs (WM9) So I hated Hulk Hogan coming back in 1993, even more so now, but back then, as a little kid, I didn’t like it. I was a Randy Savage guy & a Bret Hart guy, so when Hogan came back, like I said earlier, the end result of this show soured me on him even more. Back to this match, it was rumored to originally be The Nasty Boys vs Money Inc; I honestly would’ve preferred that to this as at least that had a storyline they took essentially months to tell, only to have zero payoff. Instead, we got Jimmy Hart showing compassion for Brutus Beefcake of all people, after Money Inc beat him up. That caused Hogan to come back & get the spotlight, typical. Even as tag team champs, it felt like Dibiase & IRS were an afterthought. They were just working for the Hogan posedown at the end. Money Inc was one of the best tag teams in the early 90s & sure they’re against the biggest name in the business, but it just bummed me out. The match wasn’t anything special & they explained that Hogan’s busted up eye (which was rumored to be because Savage punched him) due to henchman Money Inc hired. At least that’s early 90s bad guy tactics. I was really disappointed in this match.
217. Booker & RVD vs Cade & Jindrak vs The Dudleys vs La Resistance (WM20) If it’s any consolation, between the two fatal four way tag matches at Mania 20, this was far & beyond better than the Smackdown one. Well, I guess that’s not much consolation, but this was still pretty cluster-fucky. This proved to be the last hoorah for 3 out of the 4 teams, as the Dudleys of all teams stuck together. RVD & Booker I thought teamed extremely well together, but they were just broke up the following night. Jindrak & Cade and La Resistance broke up due to the draft as well. Nothing significant stands out about this match though, I enjoyed everyone’s work involved, it just wasn’t a Mania level match one would expect. The champs retained, but all 4 teams weren’t around on Raw within weeks. Felt like this match was just a “ok, get’em out there & let’s get this over with” kind of deal.
216. T&A vs Head Cheese (WM16) Ok, so 8th grade kid, right in the attitude era & this Canadian big boobed smokeshow debuts a few weeks prior & I damn near fainted. You know how I say whenever Lana comes on the screen that Dream Weaver plays? Well Trish Stratus was that original girl for me. Holy smokes she could’ve been managing a broom & trash can and I would’ve been a huge fan. How do you first show Trish on Mania? Backstage video that starts right at her chest & you zoom out. High five to the cameraman on that one! Anyways, the match, the match, ok, ok, so Head Cheese was hilarious as Al Snow in 2000 I thought was his best, even better than the JOB Squad. He & Steve Blackman’s chemistry was fantastic. I didn’t really think Chester Cheeserton or whatever the mascot’s name was, was the best, as I thought they did so much funnier things, but it was par for the course for the lunacy that was Snow at this time. Strong showing for Test & Albert, but honestly, Trish stole the show. Sure, she couldn’t talk that well when she first started, but we all know that changed big time. She’s my all time favorite & for good reason.

215. DDP vs Christian (WM18) Christian was a man without a storyline after the Invasion ended & sadly, the WWE dropped the ball on DDP so badly, that all he had to work with was…..his smile. The scary thing was it worked! I loved the DDP motivational speaker gimmick, but I think would’ve been better had the guy not portrayed a stalker just a couple months earlier. It seemed after DDP got his ass handed to him by Taker, they were done with him & just remembered they had him on the roster. Giving him the win here was fine as the European title was nothing special, but in the same account, a guy like DDP deserved a Mania moment, one bigger than just driving Rhythm & Blues to the ring at Mania 6. Christian could always put on a great match, but everything about his gimmick, ring gear, hair, everything needed a reboot & he wouldn’t get that until well over a year later.
214. Hardcore Holly vs Billy Gunn vs Al Snow (WM15) I never understood this booking from Vince Russo. For months you had Billy Gunn feuding with Shamrock & Venis, and then Road Dogg had been feuding with Holly & Snow. So how do you get the pay off at Mania? By having both guys win the opposite titles & go into the show against guys their tag team partner has been feuding with. Just weird, nonsensical booking. From about February until the fall, Al Snow & Holly must’ve fought each other like 90 times, at least it felt like it. All their matches seemed like the same to me, yet they were entertaining. Adding Mr. Ass to the equation this night really didn’t change much. It was the same thing, if anything; it took away from the crazy matches that Snow & Hardcore had been having. Holly won, but I only remembered that fact because I re-watched the match recently. It’s just like any other Hardcore match at the time, just at a bigger stage. We’d have much better Hardcore title matches later.
213. Bret Hart vs Bob Backlund (WM11) So I really enjoyed the Backlund/Bret match at Survivor Series 94, it was excellent storytelling by both guys & it made Backlund believable that he could be champion. This match on the other hand, not good at all. With Roddy Piper as guest referee, all he did was constantly shove the microphone into the guys face. Worse part of all of this, is that Backlund technically never quit, he just screamed loud into the microphone & Piper called the match. Why in the world did this match need a guest referee? Piper had nothing to do with either Bret or Backlund. Mike Chioda would’ve done a fine job in this one, but it wasn’t the case. This was probably the most forgettable match that Bret had in Mania history. I would’ve preferred Bret vs Owen again, but it never happened. Oh well.
212. Don Muraco vs Dino Bravo (WM4) Two dudes jacked up as much as possible, in the late 80s, SOLD! I ranked this Muraco match higher simply because it was almost fascinating to watch as both he & Bravo were like 2 rocks (no pun intended) that were moving around the ring. Muraco was like Scott Steiner in 2000, so many veins, if he were to sneeze, he’d probably pop. Bravo was always built like a brick, but he could move around better. I was bummed Bravo took the loss, but it was due to shenanigans in part thanks to the most worthless manager ever, that being Frenchy Martin, he was terrible, brought nothing to the table. When Bravo aligned with Jimmy Hart, that’s when I really started to become a fan of his. Overall the match wasn’t that great, but like I said, both guys were so juiced up, it really didn’t matter work rate.
211. Big Bossman, Jim Duggan, Sgt. Slaughter, Virgil vs Repo Man, Nasty Boys, Mountie (WM8) If I was basing this solely off pre-match promos by both teams, I’d rank it so much higher, because Mountie, Repo & the Nastys backstage were so damn funny. Same can actually be said for the Ray Combs intros before the match. Not like the Survivor Series 93 intro that seemed to go on longer than the match (it wasn’t funny at all). Combs mocked the heels & almost got wiped out by one of the Nastys. Match started & it’s your typical 8 man match, except nothing seemed to click. Everything fell apart toward the end & it just seemed like Virgil got the pin because, oddly enough, he was the only guy to hit his cue. Of course the faces need to win this one & I’m surprised Virgil of all people got the rollup victory. Honestly would’ve preferred seeing British Bulldog vs Berzerker (which was advertised & never happened) other than this, but eh, whatever. Don’t judge me, I was a Berzerker guy. Huss Huss you bastards!
210. Billy & Chuck vs APA vs Hardys vs Dudleys (WM18) It’s pretty sad when your most legit tag team was Billy & Chuck, yet that’s where we were in this case. All 3 other teams have ran its course so long ago that it’s amazing they were in this match. Thank goodness for Stacy Keibler looking ridiculously hot, as that was the only redeeming quality of this entire thing. Luckily the draft would be coming up & they’d get a much needed shakeup, but on this night, everything about this match felt dated, except for the tag champs. It’s amazing that just a year earlier the Dudleys & Hardys were in one of my all time favorite matches, but on this night, they just felt like the Energizer Bunny, kept going & going & going…..never-ending.
209. Big Show & Kane vs Carlito & Chris Masters (WM22) The WWE at this time had maybe 2 tag teams, that was it. Show & Kane didn’t have that much competition when they were tag champs & this was really not that different. I like Carlito & Masters, as they always had a loose affiliation with one another & teamed when needed. There was nothing wrong with this match, it was just super one sided. You never once believed that Show & Kane would lose the titles to these two. I guess that’s the problem with having your tag champs weigh in at close to 800 pounds. Then again, they lost the titles to male cheerleaders, so I guess that point is debunked. Eh, whatever, it was a decent opener, but nothing special for a Mania card.
208. Marc Mero & Sable vs Goldust & Luna (WM14) This was pretty much a handicap match as Goldust & Luna took on Mero, Sable & her overinflated boobs (not that there’s anything wrong with that, don’t hurt me Brock, she’s a lovely lady). Sable was honestly the hottest woman in wrestling for 98 & 99; everything she did was over with the fans. Hell, she modeled an inflatable chair & got tons of cheers. Her feud with Marc Mero I really enjoyed and the back & forth with her and Luna marked for a great little rivalry. Goldust in his gear at this time scared the shit out of me, so job well done I guess, but this was a decent match. It wasn’t about Mero & Goldust, it was about Sable getting her payback, which she did, by throwing Luna around the ring & hitting the Mero TKO for the win. Harmless match, but one I was never that crazy about.
207. Demolition vs Powers of Pain & Mr. Fuji (WM5) I said it in my Survivor Series countdown, it made zero sense that Mr. Fuji left the Tag Team Champions in Demolition for the challengers Powers of Pain. He had a good thing going, but screwed it up. I know its storyline, but c’mon, Master Fuji needed to be smarter than that. Anyways, it led to this match as Ax & Smash were in their prime as champs & really no one could stop them. I really liked Warlord & Barbarian and I would’ve preferred just this being a tag team match, since Fuji was pretty old & you knew he was taking the pin when he was added to this match. The Powers of Pain could’ve had a little run with the titles, but it wasn’t meant to be, as Ax & Smash were getting some incredible pops from the crowd. I may not have liked it, but the double turn worked in this case & it got Demolition over. Match was fine, but you knew what was coming like I said before. Demolition got payback on Fuji for what he did….5 months earlier. The wonders of having 4 PPVs a year.
206. Big Bossman vs Akeem (WM6) Yes this was a quick match & yes Bossman got his ass handed to him by Ted Dibiase pre-match, but I loved the Twin Towers, they were awesome, so to see this match finally happen, I liked it, no matter how quick it was. The pre-match interview with Slick & Akeem could be one of the best in history (and also the Warlord one against Bulldog). Sure it was one of the goofier gimmicks in WWF at the time, but Akeem got it over. Wish he had done more as a singles with the gimmick, but it wasn’t meant to be. Bossman wins quickly with his finish & on to feuding with Dibiase, while this was really Akeem’s last time in the spotlight in the WWF. Bummer for the Jive Soul Bro’s right hand man, but I still miss the African Dream.
205. 20 Man WWF vs NFL Battle Royal (WM2) 6 NFL guys versus 12 WWF guys, that seems about even. Jimbo Covert & Ernie Holmes were dumped within 2 minutes, Harvey Martin lasted 3, Bill Fralic was eliminated in 5 & then The Fridge was dumped by Big John Studd & then did the spot that Hogan & Sid would replicate at the 92 Rumble, grabbing his hand & pulling him out. That left Russ Francis, who made it to the Final 4, well done, but ran into the Hart Foundation, who then proceeded to get tossed by Andre the Giant, the favorite to win from the start. Andre’s specialty was battle royals, so it’s no shock that he’d win this. 9 minute battle royal, but I remember it being a lot longer than that. Really the biggest two spots of the match were the Perry/Studd moment & Andre launching Bret onto Anvil. Strong win for the Giant.
204. The Islanders & Bobby Heenan vs British Bulldogs & Koko B. Ware (WM4) So, to be perfectly honest, when I re-watched the early Wrestlemania’s, I started to lose interest in the Bulldogs, as they really weren’t doing a whole lot other than walking around with Matilda. Add to this, their partner was the Bird Man & you literally have Team World Wildlife Fund. What made this match so enjoyable was the training Bobby Heenan did to keep away from Matilda the weeks leading up. He wore a dog trainer shirt & everything for this match, which made his antics even that much better. The match, wasn’t that good IMO, but the finish, with Heenan getting a cheap win on Koko really put over Brain a not only a scummy manager, but a brilliant one at the same time. The Bulldogs running down Heenan at the ramp was pretty great too. Maybe I should’ve rated this match a little higher, but I just didn’t like the match itself all that much.
203. Headbangers vs Doug Furnas & Phil Lafon vs The New Blackjacks vs The Godwinns (WM13) So Owen Hart & The British Bulldog seemingly ran through the entire tag division from the span of October until around this time. We’ll get to who they faced on this card later, but for the Number 1 contendership match, we got an incredibly stale Godwinn team, a quickly forgotten Furnas & Lafon, a very weird reincarnation of a team in The Blackjacks & then the new kids on the block, The Headbangers. I was pretty shocked Mosh & Thrasher won this one, especially since they were heels at the time, but there wasn’t a better option honestly. I don’t remember their title match the next night, but what I do remember in this one was Mosh hit a flying Whoopie Cushion for the finish. Pretty different team in Mosh & Thrasher, as their win was unexpected, but damn, aside from the finish, this match was sloppy as shit. If I remember correctly, the Blackjacks & Furnas/Lafon got counted out (or DQ’d, can’t remember), in a tag team elimination match, seriously.
202. British Bulldog vs Warlord (WM7) It seemed like these two feuded for years, but it was only about 6-7 months or so, which is standard for WWF feuds around this time. Both dudes were massive & Bulldog was really coming into his own as a singles guy and Warlord was settled into his role nicely. Obviously this was a stepping stone for Bulldog, who had more potential than Warlord, but this was a pretty good feud. Could Bulldog break out of the full nelson? Well, no shit. Aside from that, it was two muscle dudes beating the shit out of one another & I’m fine with that. Even I think I might have rated this a tad low, but it is what it is.
201. Doink vs Crush (WM9) Doink freaked me out as a kid, plain & simple. Even watching back, his theme, his laughing to serious expressions, everything clicked in the creepiest of ways. So when he beat the living shit out of Crush with a fake arm & put him on the shelf for a while, it legit made Doink look like a threat in the WWF. An evil clown sounds stupid, but for as long as it lasted, it was pretty effective. The double vision spot in this match I thought was brilliant, because it added another element to not just this feud, but the unpredictability of Doink as a character. Crush seemed pretty stale at this point to me & this just made him look like a doofus to be honest. The match itself was alright, but the antics towards the end is why I ranked this so high. Then I remember being blown away that of all people, Skinner was the other Doink & thought that was hilarious. The alligator man, as a clown, only in the WWF!

So, I have a bit of a problem. I have the matches listed out & everything, but I had for some reason forgot to list Kurt Angle vs Kane from Mania 18, so I'll add that in eventually where it should be, but instead of 300, there's 301 matches, but I'm not going back to edit the numbers. I'll just list the match as (my fuck up). So just a heads up.

Top 200!!
200. Hulk Hogan vs King Kong Bundy (WM2) Here we go, the Top 200 (good Lord, I have 200 more of these to do, the hell am I doing?) Mania matches in history & we kick things off with probably the worst main event in Mania history on quite frankly, the worst Mania in history. King Kong Bundy was never a threat to take Hulk Hogan’s title, not like Roddy Piper, not like Andre the Giant; he just never really had that IT factor aside from being visually impressive. Bobby Heenan was a fantastic talker, but not even he made this match all that great. What did make it at least a little special, was, regardless of the predictable winner, a Steel Cage Match at Wrestlemania was pretty great & we wouldn’t see that for a very long time. So this was a pretty historic match in terms of gimmick matches. Hogan was never going to lose & Bundy, despite doing a blade job, like I said, didn’t seem like he could be THE GUY who would finally beat Hulk Hogan. It was a decent little match, but nothing special. Historical significance is why it got the bump.
199. Earthquake vs Hercules (WM6) Ok, so I told you I ranked this match higher & for good reason, as for quite some time, Hercules was one of the strongest men in the WWF & he looked like Little Beaver against King Kong Bundy in this one. Earthquake completely overmatched him in everything. Herc busted Quake’s nose like 10 seconds into the match & I remember Jimmy Hart pretty much put his finger in Quake’s nose & screamed “HE BUSTED YOUR NOSE!!!”, it was gross. This was essentially a squash match, not that long at all, but I’m an Earthquake fan & this was my favorite Quake singles Mania match. After he won with the signature tea-bagging, he hit another one & essentially squashed Hercules. That was pretty much all for Herc’s face run & it was onto the main event for Earthquake just a few months later. Job well done by the walking Natural Disaster & an impressive win for the Mouth of the South’s stable.
198. One Man Gang vs Bam Bam Bigelow (WM4) Two big dudes beating the shit out of each other, aka The Vinnie Mac Special. I remember I was surprised that Bam Bam took the loss in this one, as he was pushed a bit in late 87 (his performance in the Survivor Series main event comes to mind). However, this was the WWF & I failed to realize that faces fought heels & never would we see face vs face or heel vs heel. So looking at the brackets, I shouldn’t have been surprised. It was a rare victory for someone like Slick, whose guys really never got victories on PPVs (aside from the slaughter at Survivor Series 1990). This was pretty much it for Bam Bam until he returned in 92, sadly for the Beast from the East, this push was over. Slick said it best, “Turn out the lights, the party’s over!”
197. Ricky Steamboat vs Hercules (WM2) I was always amazed at how jacked Ricky Steamboat was during this time, he looked like a little guy, but he was pretty damn built. Even next to a massive Hercules, you could still see how strong Ricky looked. This was your typical match though, since it’s on the Mania 2 card, the worst Mania in history, it’s usually forgotten about. Steamboat with a win with his patented crossbody, vintage Dragon. I can’t really delve into this match much more because there’s nothing to really write about. Steamboat is one of my Top 10 guys, but this match was mediocre at best. Nothing against either guy, it just got lost on a card that was forgotten about by the masses. 7 minute match, it was what it was.
196. Rikishi & Kane vs X-Pac & Road Dogg (WM16) Wrestlemania 16 felt like the year that WWF felt the need to literally put EVERYONE on the show, no matter how silly the match might be. The team of Rikishi & Kane always baffled me, it wasn’t really like Rikishi was involved in a real feud with DX, but this was just filler it felt like. Kane & X-Pac were still feuding, which felt like forever & to be perfectly honest, there was no reason for this match at all. Aside from the Pete Rose spot for the 3rd year, which never got old, this match was completely unnecessary. Was it more to just pimp the Run DMC entrance music? I don’t know, I just remember not liking this match at all, yet I liked everyone involved (including Road Dogg, whose shtick was so outdated at this point, he was still rocking that DX jersey from late 98). I was happy this match was over & Charlie Hustle got Rikishi’s ass shoved in his face. Hall of Fame worthy Pete!
195. Mankind vs The Big Show (WM15) So the Big Show really never became interesting until about 6 or so months into his WWF run. When he was Paul Wight, henchman to The Corporation, he just didn’t have anything interesting about him at all, except obviously for his look. I think WWF didn’t really know what to do with him, so this match with Mankind to see who would referee the main event was completely underwhelming. Show beat the shit out of Mick, but nothing really stood out, it just seemed like a match with implications, but other than that, boring, which sucks to say, because Mick was awesome at this time. He won after Show got DQ’d in 7 minutes. Not the Mania making match it could’ve been, then again I wasn’t expecting that, just was expecting a lot more than what we got.
194. Roddy Piper vs Adrian Adonis (WM3) The Adorable One had a very entertaining gimmick, it was just a shame he had ballooned up so much in his weight that it was just sad at this point. This was billed as the Hot Rod’s final match as he was headed for Hollywood & the best part about this was that everyone else took those rad carts to the ring (I wish they came back) instead, being the badass, he walked, he didn’t have time for that garbage. Piper was one of the most over guys in the company & I remember being surprised they had billed this as his final match, because he was back a few years later & that’s when I first started watching. The match itself, yeesh, I didn’t like it, but I admired Piper so much that it didn’t matter. Most of his matches were wild brawls as time went on & this one, while not really a brawl, fit the Pipe mold regardless. He put the Adorable One to sleep & with the help of Brutus Beefcake, did a little cutting & strutting on the big man. Not a good night for Jimmy Hart up to this point, but a memorable moment nonetheless.
193. Mark Henry vs Ryback (WM29) I was amazed at how quickly Ryback got over when he re-debuted in 2012, he was thrown into the main event picture rather fast & honestly, I was all for it, it was someone new. He unfortunately (luckily maybe) ran into The Shield & their debut, so after a few months, we found Ryback, the current muscle man of the WWE, wrestling the World’s Strongest Man. So one would assume, this was the match that Ryback would show off his strength & Shellshock Mark Henry, which he did after an alright match……..AFTER…….after Mark Henry PINNED Ryback. Mark Henry, who wasn’t doing a damn thing really, beat the guy you had steamroll the roster for most of the previous year. The ending absolutely baffled me, because Ryback hit a spinebuster & Shellshock on him afterwards anyway! Very odd choice for a finish, but whatever, it is what it is & was probably the least interesting match on the card that year.
192. Honky Tonk Man vs Jake Roberts (WM3) So, I legit don’t remember this match happening, so I looked it up online literally 10 minutes ago & watched it. It’s not a bad match at all, but aside from the Alice Cooper cameo, nothing really stood out in this one. Honky was a solid heel & Jake was fantastic in everything in the late 80s, early 90s, so I thought these two did fine, it’s just forgettable. I did however need to re-watch the clip where Honky hit the living hell out of Jake with the guitar & it didn’t break; it instead, knocked Roberts out cold I believe. Watch the clip, it’s friggin’ brutal. Jake & Alice celebrated as Honky high tailed it in normal Honky fashion. Can’t say much more.
191. Hart Foundation vs Rhythm & Blues (WM5) Probably the most forgettable Mania match for Bret Hart, as at least the Bolsheviks one was a squash & the Backlund was remembered for sucking. This one however, was a fine match, nothing really much to say about it, except for it was 2 teams who weren’t in the tag title picture & needed a Mania spot. With the backstory of Jimmy Hart & the Hart Foundation, it was a natural fit, so I had zero problem with this match happening or anything about the match, it was just there, filler. The Harts got the win with using Jimmy Hart’s megaphone, a tactic they would pay for a few years later. 7 minutes, ok tag match, moving on. This was at least before Valentine started dying his hair black, so that level of ridiculousness was at least not in play quite yet.
190. Brutus Beefcake vs Honky Tonk Man (WM4) Retaining your title by countout or in this case disqualification, the Ol’ Honky Tonk Man special. I just now realized this was the 3rd Honky match in a row, which, I didn’t plan, but goes to show you how much I couldn’t really care about his Mania matches. While I liked the character, don’t get me wrong, it’s just Beefcake should’ve either won the title or gotten his hands on Honky. I know we were supposed to see a rematch at Summerslam, but as you know, it never happened. 6 minute IC title match on a show that was dominated by the World title. I would’ve much rather had both guys in the tournament to be honest. Have Beefcake win a non title match in the opening round & nothing is lost here between the two. Beefcake could lose to Dibiase in the next round if they wanted. Whatever, it didn’t happen & I simply ranked this match as high as I did due to the entertainment factor of Jimmy Hart & on this night, Peggy Sue, played by Sensational Sherri. Take those two out of the equation, would’ve been much lower.
189. Owen Hart, British Bulldog, Vader vs Ahmed Johnson, Yokozuna, Jake Roberts (WM12) Rough opener for an otherwise solid Wrestlemania. Jake Roberts came back in early 96, but looked awful, totally out of shape & just looked out of place with guys like Owen, Bulldog & Vader, who had been wrestling at the top of the card. Yokozuna looked like a disaster as well. It’s a shame that he could never get his weight under control as I wonder how much further he would’ve gone had he lost some weight. This was sadly during his downward spiral when he weighed probably over 600 pounds at this point. When you make Vader look tiny in comparison, you know you’re a big dude. Ahmed wasn’t “hurty” yet at this point & was the only guy on his team that was decent in the ring. Which absolutely amazes me that I even wrote that, but it’s true. So Camp Cornette got the win & they totally should’ve in this case as they were building up them as a faction. Just wish it was against better competition.
188. Randy Savage vs Butch Reed (WM4) I’ve noted how close Butch Reed was to winning the IC title before, so I won’t get into that again, but I always thought he was solid in the ring. Savage was on fire this night & was in a whole other league, so having him fight guys like Reed, Valentine, One Man Gang & Dibiase, showed off his skills to everyone. What might’ve been with Hacksaw Butch Reed, as I wouldn’t have minded him as the IC champ in all honesty. Nothing really special to say about this match other than it was the strong guy vs the little guy, but Savage’s ability to tell a story was something that made him my all time favorite. You’ll notice (aside from the George Steele match) most of the Savage matches in the Mania tournament, while nothing really special (except for the main event), I ranked higher, but that’s simply for my admiration of Macho Man Randy Savage. Match 1 of 4 on this night was a solid start for him.
187. Andre the Giant vs Big John Studd (WM1) The $15,000 Bodyslam Challenge as had Andre lost this one, he would’ve had to retire, which, right there, you should’ve known. If you didn’t then, maybe you would’ve realized it when you looked at both guys standing next to one another. While Big John Studd was no slouch, him standing next to Andre, he looked tiny & he was near 7 foot & 360-370. He had absolutely no shot, so of course Andre was going to win this & easily. There was nothing special about this match other than the sight of Andre, smile on his face, tossing money out to the crowd before Heenan ran into the ring, grabbed the money & bailed, was always a lasting memory for me. For the first Wrestlemania, it got Andre over with the fans, something he didn’t really need help with, but it was just so Heenan’s guy could lose & the fans could go nuts for their favorite standing tall. No harm, no foul with this one, but memorable, in a good way, which is important.
186. Undertaker vs Mark Henry (WM22) So aside from maybe the Big Show & A-Train vs Taker match at WM19, this was the most one sided match in the Taker streak for quite some time. There was no way Henry was winning this match, it felt more like a filler for Taker to just get another win more than anything. Sure they slapped a Casket Match stipulation on it, but that just made it even more predictable. I never really liked this heel version of Mark Henry as he was paired with Daivari, granted it wasn’t nearly as bad as the time they tried to call him a Silverback, ugh, luckily Mark was smart enough to turn that horrible idea down. Only really impressive part of this match however, which is why it is rated so high, is that Taker delivered a Tombstone on Henry, fucking unreal.

SUPER BOWL EDITION (not really, this has nothing to do with football)
185. Yokozuna vs Lex Luger (WM10) Even as a little kid, I didn’t buy into the Lex Express deal, hell, I don’t even think Lex bought into the Lex Express deal. Only person who seemed to buy into it was Vince McMahon, as he was desperate & I mean DESPERATE to fill the Captain America void left in his black heart left by Hulk Hogan. Lex fit the role of The Narcissist to a tee; he shouldn’t have been taken out of that gimmick, especially not as quickly as he was. Instead he was rushed into his main event push & looked like a total boob in the process. Celebrating a countout win (we’ll get to that more in a bit) against Yoko at Summerslam was hardly anything to boast about as the match itself was pretty bad. This one, nearly a year later, was no better. Only redeeming factor was Mr. Perfect as guest referee & essentially screwed Luger out of the match. Again, Luger came off looking like an idiot. I think the Lex Express officially derailed on this night for good.
184. Rick Martel vs Koko B. Ware (WM6) I always remember this match annoyed me whenever I re-watched this Mania on DVD because they had Koko’s entrance music as the Piledriver song & not the Bird Bird Bird one. Anyways this was in line of your typical openers that really meant nothing as The Model was a year into his heel run now & Koko was in desperate need of anything. It baffles me that Rick Martel is not in the Hall of Fame, but Koko B. Ware is. This match was a solid little opener that could’ve easily been a featured match on Prime Time Wrestling; instead it got the nod as the first match. Nothing really to write about this one, it was entertaining for what it was, Martel gets the win via Boston Crab & that was that.
183. Men on a Mission vs The Quebecers (WM10) Remember in the Luger vs Yoko one where I said I’d get to the celebration of a countout win in a title match, this is it, as it always baffled me when challengers for titles would become morons & think they won the titles when the champions got disqualified or counted out. You can chalk this up for heels & in this case, faces as well. I wish this would’ve been the Steiner Brothers against the Quebecers, but for some reason, Rick & Scott were completely put on the back burner in 1994 for the WWF. Instead we got Mo & Mabel as Oscar was chanting “Whoop There It Is” down to the ring & everyone was dancing in the crowd like it was 1994. Everyone in this match looked like idiots. The Quebecers bailed via countout, which I guess was understandable, but M.O.M took the titles & celebrated like they had won. It just seemed like a pointless match overall. I ranked this match as high as I did because, regardless of what happened, I liked Pierre & Jacques as a team & Johnny Polo was a fantastic manager. This match was a typical face vs heel match, nothing really major about it.
182. Road Dogg vs Val Venis vs Goldust vs Ken Shamrock (WM15) The better of the two clusterfuck booking by Vince Russo of the Outlaws for this show. Mr. Ass had already lost the Hardcore title on this show & now it was the Road Dogg’s turn. Shamrock & Venis had their little history with Val making a porno with Ryan Shamrock, then you tie in her affiliation with Goldust & The Blue Meanie (no idea why), but then there was Road Dogg, who had nothing to do with anyone. Absolutely silly. What’s even worse was Shamrock & Venis got counted out, in a four way match. So dumb. So Road Dogg retained over Goldust in an absolutely worthless match due to the fact that the champion heading into the match, had zero to do with the other three. You baffle me with your booking Russo. I used the word baffle in two matches in a row, what’s up.
181. Batista vs Umaga (WM24) One year prior, Batista was facing the Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Championship, this year, he’s defending the Smackdown brand against YOU-MANG-GUH (as William Regal would say it). It felt like a giant step backwards for Batista, yet a big match for Umaga. This match should’ve felt bigger, but it didn’t. Batista is a guy that had been in the World title picture, while Umaga wasn’t on the Raw brand, sure he’d fight upper level guys, but he wasn’t in the same league as The Animal. It was a fine match don’t get me wrong, but unless you watch this show again, odds are, you’ve probably forgot this match even took place, much like I did. It’s nothing against either guy, I really liked Umaga & thought he should’ve done more, it’s just a shame his drug problems caused him to be let go & we all know what happened after that. Batista on the other hand, felt like he was on the outside looking in on big time matches that took place this year. Decent, but very forgettable.
180. Too Cool & Chyna vs The Radicalz (WM16) So The Radicalz debut in the WWF was a little underwhelming. Sure it was rad seeing Benoit, Malenko, Saturn & Guerrero all in the big leagues, but they never seemed to get going until a few months in. Benoit was feuding for the IC title & Eddie started to become infatuated with Chyna, who would later become his Mamacita, an amazing storyline. This match though, for everything that was going on, was just ok, nothing more, nothing less. I’ll give Chyna credit, her pants broke halfway through the match & she kept going. Teenage boys like myself & I’m sure pervy males across the world hoped for a wardrobe malfunction (this was during the days when Chyna looked pretty good IMO), but she kept it together. Why in the world did Too Cool & Chyna need a win here? Wouldn’t you want to make the Radicalz, who had only been in the company a few months, look strong? Or even get Eddie a cheap win? I know Too Cool was probably the most over they’d ever be, but I didn’t think a win was necessary at this show.
179. LOD & Ahmed Johnson vs Faarooq, Savio Vega & Crush (WM13) You’d think this would be the culmination of the never-ending feud between Ahmed Johnson & the Nation, but it wasn’t, it kept going, hell Ahmed even joined them this year, so dumb. Anyways, this was during Ahmed’s sloppy days as he did nothing but brawl, so in a way, this was the perfect match for him & the Chicago boys the LOD. The opposition, Faarooq, Crush &……Savio Vega, which, I hated as part of the Nation. What a dumb person to join this faction. I liked Savio, don’t get me wrong, it’s just having him part of this group always baffled me. This match was a brawl, nothing more needed to be said, I didn’t love it, I didn’t hate it, it was just there, which explains why it’s in the middle tier of matches. I do however remember hearing & going back to watch a young Colt Cabana (decked in the ECW shirt in the pic) in the crowd & how he took a swing at one of the Road Warriors from the railing. Probably the most entertaining part of the match, even then, Colt knew how to work the camera.
178. Ted Dibiase vs Jim Duggan (WM4) Battle of the Mid-South boys as Dibiase’s first round opponent he at least had some history with, if you knew about Mid South, which, at the time I first saw it, wasn’t familiar at all. Anyways, this was the perfect opponent for Dibiase to start off the tournament for Dibiase, especially since he’d essentially coast to the finals. Duggan was beloved enough by the fans that maybe some would think he could win, but with Andre on the outside, it really made Dibiase feel like a major player in this thing. Overall the match was decent as Duggan got in some offense, but ran into the Giant, leading to an Dibiase victory.
177. Hercules vs Haku (WM5) This opening match was always a guilty pleasure that I enjoyed it as much as I did. Hercules was probably at his most over at a face heading into this match & King Haku was settled in as a very strong upper card heel with Heenan by his side. It looked weird, but I liked King Haku being carried to the ring by 4 job guys, it fit. Anyways, Hercules started things off early in this match by sending Haku tumbling off his throne causing him to take a pretty nasty fall. He could’ve really messed himself up & I shudder to think what would’ve happened to Hercules had he injured him. Strong showing from Herc as the win for the face got the crowd hot from the start as Haku didn’t seem to lose much momentum after this. Which is what I liked about most of the late 80s, early 90s matches. It’s an opening contest that even to this day I enjoyed.
176. Tag Team Battle Royal (WM14) Chalk it up to one of the most predictable finishes in Mania history, as you had the mystery team of L.O.D. 2000 come in & to no one’s surprise, destroy everyone. When your biggest competition is Bombastic Bob & Bodacious Bart, you know it’s going to be an easy night. Not to mention, teams like Flash Funk & Steve Blackman were thrown together. Being a youngster though I oddly enjoyed this battle royal, complete with random Barry Windham & Kurrgan interferences. Sunny managing Hawk & Animal made no sense, but it was better than Rocco the dummy with Paul Ellering in 1992. I did hear in the Timeline 1998 that Vince Russo did that the only reason they put Sunny with the LOD in the first place was just to shut her up when she kept bitching about not getting to do anything. So we all have Sunny to blame for this odd reincarnation, which shouldn't be surprising, as she's a total disaster. Did this team accomplish much? Not at all, but it was fun to see LOD get their final Mania moment, as they are one of the best tag teams ever. I wonder how many people had their money on Chainz & Bradshaw, I thought they’d really go far…….
175. Alberto Del Rio vs Jack Swagger (WM29) Leave it to the Oklahomie to mess up his main event push really before it got going. Swagger won the Elimination Chamber with Zeb by his side & then proceeded to get popped for DUI & weed less than a few weeks later. Perhaps one of the most boneheaded moves in recent memory. This match though was fine; it just had zero steam behind it. Zeb & Swagger wanted Del Rio out of the country & all that, which I got; it just was boring to me. I just hated cheering Del Rio, because he’s so easy to hate. These two had good chemistry & it’s not like the match was horrible by any means, I just wish it had a stronger build behind it.
174. Goldust vs Roddy Piper (WM12) I guess you could technically call this a match, even though there was really no finish, but I ranked it anyways. I was creeped the F out by Goldust as a young kid, he did his job perfectly & I didn’t even put two & two together that it was Dustin Rhodes until he himself said it in an interview or something a year or so later. I was a dumb kid, whatever. Back to the fight, Piper fucked Goldust up & it was cool seeing the Hot Rod have a brawl after about 6 years of not having one. The gold bronco chase was really hokey, but for 96, I understood it & it was funny. Piper smacked Goldust in the head with a baseball bat, got ran over by the Golden One & then proceeded to rip off Goldust’s clothes down to lingerie, which, really was weird as a young kid to see. Entertaining for a wild brawl for sure.
173. HHH vs Randy Orton (WM25) I can only think of one match that suffered from worse placement on a Mania card than this one & that’s Jericho vs HHH at WM 18 (we’ll get there) as Hogan & Rock should’ve gone on last that show. On this night, HBK vs Taker should’ve been last, it’s a no brainer. For a feud that was so personal as Trips & Orton, they went out there and had…..a regular wrestling match? Not a brawl, not a wild fight, a regular match. After Orton, winner of the Royal Rumble to earn this shot, had put Trips & the McMahon’s through hell, it led to Trips breaking into Orton’s home & tossing him out the front window, so the bell rings & they lock up? Crowd was dead for this entire main event of WrestleMania & no interference, no nothing, it just finished. What could’ve been a strong main event ended up as a below average Raw main event. Match placement, like I said, has a lot to do with how boring this match was. Now, it wasn’t a disaster, it was just flat & for a Mania main event, that’s definitely what you DON’T want.
172. Steiner Brothers vs Headshrinkers (WM9) What's the phrase called, bowling shoe ugly? I’ll jump right to it, Scott Steiner almost died in this match, rewind it & watch, it’s majorly F’d up. What was supposed to be a slingshot/stun gun type move by the Headshrinkers, ended up in Scott missing the entire top rope & fell to the floor on the top of his head. We almost didn’t get Big Poppa Pump thanks to this match, which would suck, we’d be robbed of all those promos & suplexes. These 4 guys beat the piss out of each other as they sort of had a history too with the Samoan Swat Team in WCW vs the Steiners. Then there was Rick, who did a fucking powerslam on I think Samu, as provided in the gif above. Add to that a Frankensteiner, which was way too dangerous, as Scott couldn't give two shits about how reckless it was. He damn near destroyed Samu (rough night for him). Wonder if the wonky-ness of the finish was payback of the super botch that took place earlier in the match?
171. X-Pac vs Shane McMahon (WM15) In 6th grade (when this Mania was on), my friend & I were all in on this feud. I was a Shane O’Mac guy (despite being a DX fan also) & my buddy was an X-Pac fan. I remember when Shane won I gloated so much afterwards & would constantly call him X-Punk. My God I was an asshole kid, but it was the Attitude Era so it was fine. Shane wasn’t a good wrestler, he was a good bumper. This was his first match, so he wasn’t the insane spot monkey yet, instead this was a catch me if you can deal as it lead to the infamous Triple H heel turn with Chyna. Historically, this set the stage for Triple H becoming a strong heel as Shane weaseled his way to a victory. This was also the night the Mean Street Posse debuted!! Respect to Rodney & Pete Gas!! X-Pac beat the shit out of Shane, Trips turned heel & Shane got the win, perfect booking, but I can’t in good faith rank this any higher.

Next 20!
170. Lashley vs Umaga (WM23) So, much like Floyd Mayweather (albeit for completely different reasons), WWE Hall of Famer (sigh) Donald Trump is a giant piece of garbage. However, as much as it pains me to say this, I enjoyed his interaction with Vince McMahon during the buildup to this match. Lashley & Umaga were doing their damndest to build the match, but it was Vince & Donald that made the match intriguing with the stip of Loser Loses their Hair. You knew Vince was going to lose & although the segment went on forever, seeing him get his head shaved by Trump, Lashley & Umaga was a memorable moment. Not as memorable as Trump taking one of the Top 3 worst Stunner’s in history (I want a president who properly knows how to take a Stunner). The match itself, notice I’m just getting around to. They were hell bent on Lashley being THE GUY & as history shows, that wasn’t the case. Overall the match was fine, but nothing mind boggling. Both guys worked well with one another, but it seemed like just a countdown until the shenanigans after the match that was what people were looking forward to.
169. Dream Team vs The Rougeau Brothers (WM3) Maybe this match is ranked higher, ok much higher, than one would thing, but to be honest, I liked this match. It was a decent little tag match & it sent in gear a big turn. Brutus Beefcake would get walked out on by Valentine, Johnny V & Dino Bravo after they won the match. Very odd, but it would lead to the creation of the Barber later in the show. Anyways, the match itself saw a spot where Brutus lifted Jacques over his head in a press, Hammer went to the top & dropped a forearm onto him & Beefer then drove him down from over his head into a backbreaker. That’s friggin’ impressive! Then the Rougeaus hit their weird flying nutshot deal where Raymond lifted Valentine up in a Hart Attack position & Jacques would leap off the top & drop his nuts in the face of his opponent. Very strange. Whatever, Dino Bravo leveled the Rougeau while Johnny V had the ref distracted & they won the match, bailing on Beefcake in that moving ring they rode to ringside. Dick move Hammer!
168. Ricky Steamboat vs Matt Borne (WM1) Obviously I was a big heel Doink fan, I wasn’t an early WCW fan, so Big Josh stuff I didn’t know about & then I also didn’t know about Matt Borne’s early work in Mid South (I've since popped in the Mid-South dvd that WWE put out a couple years ago. I got it at Wal-Mart for $4. Thank you WWE Network for putting dvds on clearance) & or even early WWF. With Steamboat I knew him of course from the Dragon run & then became familiar with his early WWF work & then the WCW/NWA days. So when I watched this match, I knew it took place & all, but I was surprised I liked it as much as I did. It’s not even a 5 minute match, but I dug it. Nice showcase for Steamboat. That said, you could hear a pin drop for most of this match, but go back & listen and most of the 1st Mania matches are like that. Steamboat with the crossbody for the win.
167. Big Show vs Cody Rhodes (WM28) Cody Rhodes is one of the most underrated, underappreciated performers on the WWE roster. They have money in this guy & they simply don’t see it. Which is a damn shame. I loved the Dashing Cody Rhodes character & having him go into this match questioning whether Show can still win was a good little story, however the match was pretty much a one sided beating by Show. He hit a KO punch & won the title. I don’t know whether it was a time crunch or what, but these two deserved more time. Granted I loved next month, whether it was intentional or not, during their Tables Match, Cody dropkicked Show on the apron & Show stepped back onto a table & went through it. I loved that ending. Same couldn’t be said for this match though.
166. HHH vs Goldust (WM13) This feud should’ve ended at the Royal Rumble, but I think it only continued because the addition of Chyna. It gave this match a different element. The first time I saw Chyna, it was crazy, she was built like a brick shithouse. Her rag-dolling little Marlena made her even more impressive. Triple H had lost the IC title to Rocky Maivia & I would’ve preferred a rematch, but that happened the previous month, so they pretty much had to go back to this one. The feud was ok, but it was never a favorite of mine, aside from the fact that it introduced Chyna to the wrestling world & gave Trips a muscle that he needed.
165. Edge vs Booker T (WM18) So you might think these two Hall of Famers should’ve been ranked higher, but this was nothing more than a Smackdown match with a dumb angle behind it. I’m not looking up specifics, but it had to do with a Japanese shampoo commercial endorsement that Edge got & it made Booker jealous. Really? That’s all you could come up with for these guys? My goodness that’s next level suckage right there. The match was fine, these guys rarely had bad matches with anyone, but damn, this could’ve been so much better, but it wasn’t. Very disappointing because I always liked Booker & especially Edge.
164. Hulk Hogan vs Sid Justice (WM8) Even as a little kid, I knew this wasn’t going to be Hulk Hogan’s final match, he was a larger than life figure, even though I was a Macho Man fan primarily, I knew Hogan was coming back, just a matter of when. This match, wasn’t good, however I’m not a Hogan fan & what made me LOVE this match, was that Papa Shango missed his cue, forcing Sid to kick out of the legdrop, something that you didn’t see. Why the hell did Papa Shango need to interfere in this one anyway? I know it was for Warrior to make the save, but Papa Shango? Why’d he have any reason to go after Hogan? Just dumb. But they can never take away Sid kicking out of the legdrop. Suck it Hogan.
163. Lex Luger vs Mr. Perfect (WM9) I was a huge Mr. Perfect fan as a young kid, so when he made his comeback in late 92, I was really happy. Unfortunately, aside from a handful of really good matches (Loser Leaves Town vs Flair, KOTR Qualifiers vs Doink & the KOTR Semi-final against Bret come to mind) his return was incredibly underwhelming. Same could be said for Luger, despite having a perfect (no pun intended) gimmick for him as the Narcissist. I really think Luger took a while to get going in the ring in the WWF, granted he was never the best worker, I just think it took him a while to get the ring rust off after being gone from WCW for so long. This match was just ok, nothing special. It was sloppy & was pretty uninteresting, however, I ranked it as high as I did because I liked Perfect in the ring & I did like these two wrestling each other. The thing I remember the most about this was Perfect getting marble mouth in a backstage promo with Mean Gene calling him the Larcissit….Larc….Luger & then tried again and failed again. It was hilarious.
162. Rick Rude vs Jimmy Snuka (WM6) What many might see as a complete throwaway match, actually I thought set the stage well for the main event to follow. Rick Rude had feuded with the Warrior for over a year & it was somewhat fitting that Rude has a dominating victory over the Superfly immediately before the big Warrior vs Hogan matchup. The feud with Warrior & Rude lost some of its steam heading into Summerslam, but it was nice that the Rude match, which was incredibly one sided, set up the match that would make Warrior’s career. The final Rude Mania match was a good one as he destroyed Snuka in 4 minutes.
161. Randy Savage vs One Man Gang (WM4) Round 3 for Macho Man & his final hoop to jump through before getting to the finals. One Man Gang got a bye to the next round so the story that he was fresher than Savage was a good little detail into this match as well. It was a perfect big man, small man match with Savage getting in a little bit of offense, but it was primarily dominated by the Gang. Anyone in their right mind would know we wouldn’t see Dibiase vs the One Man Gang in the finals, but it was a very entertaining little match nonetheless. Savage picked up the win after miscommunication with Slick & advances. Always liked the Gang & I’ve already stated how much I enjoyed Savage, so I won’t repeat myself there.
160. Kane vs Randy Orton (WM28) Two of arguably the most established names in the company, went on 2nd this year & were complete afterthoughts. Both guys knew it too, because both guys had zero enthusiasm in this thing. Orton phoning it in, totally uninterested. It seemed like both guys were just going through the motions in this one, not really caring that it was at Wrestlemania. Which makes me believe they swerved the finish, which many people thought Orton would win, instead, giving Kane the victory. Why? because this match simply didn’t matter. The match didn’t suck; don’t get me wrong, it just looked like both guys would’ve preferred being anywhere else but the grandest stage of them all.
159. AJ Lee & Paige vs Bella Twins (WM31) You wouldn’t think of it, but go back & look, it’s true, this tag match was solid & ranks in my Top 5 women’s matches in Mania history. Now, I know what you’re thinking, that’s not saying much, but looking at this match, you wouldn’t think it would rank that high, but that just shows how bad ladies matches have been over the years at Mania. The storyline between AJ & Paige was fine for what it was, were they friends, were they enemies, pretty simple & the Bella’s weren’t flip flopping from heel to face each week like now, instead they were heel & just heels. We’ll just put aside the ridiculous Nikki heel turn on Brie, yet Brie just randomly becoming heel after being the biggest female face for a few months. This match was good, it got more time than the ladies normally would in about 7 minutes & the faces won over the heels. Simple, to the point, not filled with 19 different girls & that was a rarity for the Divas division at this time. Less is more in this case & it worked.
158. HHH vs Sheamus (WM26) I don’t think there’s been a superstar that was pushed as quickly to the top like Sheamus was. He debuted in ECW in mid 2009 & stuck around there for a few months before going to Raw & destroying everyone, including World Champ John Cena, winning the title in less than a year. So when he steamrolled Triple H & put him on the shelf, one would assume he was just adding another name to his list, but we must remember, Trips isn’t going to lay down to a rookie at Mania. This match was decent, with this being a pretty hard hitting match, but I preferred their match at Extreme Rules the following month in which Sheamus just annihilated Trips & let him go off to make The Chaperone I believe. Trips wins with a Pedigree. Seemed a little anti-climactic even for a feud that was going to continue the next month anyway. I expected more.
157. Sid vs The Undertaker (WM13) The wonky main event for WM13 as it gave Taker his first Mania title win. I can’t remember there even being a build for this match. I always remembered the Final Four PPV that Bret won & then Raw the next night that Sid won the title. Never do I remember any interaction with Taker & Sid. Maybe a couple promos, but is that really what you want in your main event? I know rumors of Michaels vs Bret were to happen, but in February of this year, Shawn famously lost his smile. Luckily he did because we got Austin vs Hart (more on that a long time from now). Anyways, there was nothing special about this main event aside from Taker winning. He donned the gray gloves again & it was like Taker of old, but it was just a very odd mix. It was like the main event just fell into place & we got this. This wasn’t a bad match at all, I liked it, always thought when Sid wanted to turn it on, he was very solid in the ring & of course Taker is Taker. They had good chemistry; I just wish they had a better build. Main event picture was such a clusterfuck in early 97; it really wasn’t either man’s fault.
156. Barbarian vs Tito Santana (WM6) If you want to see the most beautifully delivered & sold top rope flying clothesline, watch this match. I watched this Mania a few weeks ago & I totally remember this finish. Barbarian, despite not having a different look at all, still rocking the Powers of Pain getup & not yet the fur & horns, had Bobby Heenan in his corner & that was only a positive. Chico Santana got a massive ovation, but, like most cases in Mania, Santana was used to build his opponent, something he did extremely well. The match is nothing special, but the finish absolutely is as Barbarian hits Chico with, and I say this with 100% confidence, the best executed flying clothesline I’ve ever seen. Damn was it a thing of beauty. Well done Barbarian!
155. Undertaker vs Jimmy Snuka (WM7) Here it is, historical purposes alone, maybe I should’ve ranked this higher, but the match itself was just ok. Jimmy Snuka was still over with the fans & this was a good name for Taker to get a win over, it was just ok though. Maybe because Taker was already had this presence about him, that this match seemed like just another filler match on a Mania card. Looking back on it, of course it was the start of the most historic streak in all professional wrestling, but at the time, it wasn’t. Taker looked awfully impressive & no way did this match make you think he’d be World Champ by year’s end. You could tell though he was a superstar though.
154. Team Hell No vs Dolph Ziggler & Big E (WM29) The problem these 4 guys had was the problem a lot of the guys had & I’ll point it out in the matches upcoming, was that they simply didn’t have enough time. This Mania was a time crunch & some matches got cut for time, some matches got cut entirely. 6 minutes simply isn’t enough time for these 4, as Team Hell No was incredibly over with the crowd, the hottest Kane had been in years & Bryan was one of the most popular guys on the roster. Then there’s Ziggler, who is about to be the World Champ the next night & a Mania debut for Big E, who deserved a better showing. They tried cramming in so much into this match that it just seemed like a sprint from the get go. The opening spot with Dolph kissing AJ only to get hit with a kick & almost pinned was a great call back to the previous year with Bryan & AJ. A very entertaining match, but they should’ve had double this time. Mania is a long show, it’s just a shame that these 4 talented guys couldn’t be given more than 6 minutes on the biggest show of the year.
153. Razor Ramon vs Bob Backlund (WM9) So here’s the thing, on a Mania card filled with quite a bunch of garbage, it’s these kind of thrown together matches with solid talent, that actually save the PPV. The matches people definitely forget about & this was a nice little match. Granted it was less than 4 minutes, but it gave Razor a Mania win & Backlund was popular with fans following his amazing Rumble performance that year. Absolutely this could’ve been a match on Raw, but I liked it because I was always a fan of those filler matches with no meaning behind them. Razor won not with a Razor’s Edge, but with a chicken shit small package. Solid heel win & a match I suggest spending under 4 minutes watching.
152. Owen Hart & Yokozuna vs The Smoking Gunns (WM11) Owen Hart was an incredible heel. His built in backstory of anything Bret did he would do it better was great. I honestly wish Owen would’ve gotten at least a couple month run with the title (those off months between Summerslam & Survivor Series). I would’ve put the title on Owen at Survivor Series & have Diesel beat him in December right before the new year. Having Yokozuna team with him against the Gunns was perfect & amazingly, despite being off TV since the Survivor Series, Yoko looked even bigger, which was sad. The Gunns stood no chance & this was really Owen’s coming out party & real start as a tag team specialist. Sure he’d still be a reliable heel for singles matches, but this was a refreshing new team to hold the tag titles for a while in 95. Entertaining match with a great result.
151. Brain Busters vs Strike Force (WM5) RIP to one of my favorite themes on the Piledriver album, that being Strike Force’s Girls in Cars (it was so cheesy & it didn’t fit them at all as a team, music video is hilariously awful), as this was the end of Chico Santana & Rick Martel as a team. This not only made Martel a heel, but it was a clinic put on by Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard, as The Brain Busters did what they did best, out wrestle you. I wish they lasted longer in the WWF, but it was good while it lasted. Martel selling an injury from miscommunication most of the match & then just bailing, allowing Tully & Arn to just absolutely pick apart Santana until they felt they did enough to get the win. That’s all I have to say, because Girls in Cars is stuck in my head. God dammit.

150. Undertaker vs Big Bossman (WM15) I’m trying to figure out how creative pitched this finish to Bossman. “Ok Ray, here’s the plan for tonight, Taker is going to beat you, badly, but after he does we want to do something different, something sadistic to really get Mark’s character over as the devil reincarnate. So we’re going to hang you, ok?” It was a high profile match, what was Bossman going to say? No? No friggin way, but that shit was scary. I know the lights went out, presumably to get everything hooked up properly, but damn, they raised the Cell with Bossman hanging. That’s an impressive image; I don’t care what you say. The match was incredible forgettable, with honestly, Bossman wasn’t in the same league as Taker, it’s just they didn’t have another big time name that could’ve fought Taker. The Brood coming down from the ceiling was cool, yet terrifying thinking about it.
149. Brutus Beefcake vs Ted Dibiase (WM5) I totally understand this match had pretty much nothing behind it. If anything, it was the left over feud that had happened the year prior between Hogan & Dibiase and Andre. It was a pretty big step backwards for Dibiase, who looked like a star in the tournament the previous year. My admiration for Dibiase & being a massive fan of his work is why I gave this as big of a bump as I did in the rankings. This is nothing special, a 10 minute match that ended in a double countout. Although Dibiase bailed & left Virgil to get put to sleep by Beefcake, what was he going to do to him after? Virgil didn’t have any hair, so it took away anything Brutus could’ve done. I’d move this down a few notches & quite frankly, I probably should, but had it been anyone else other than Dibiase, probably wouldn’t have been ranked this high like I said.
(THE I'M A MORON & I FORGOT SPOT) Kurt Angle vs Kane (WM18) Here it is, the one match I forgot all about when listing the matches. For some reason when writing out the matches, I totally forgot to write this one down. There’s nothing bad about it, it’s just a brain fart. Sorry Woodridge, I know Angle is your boy but Kurt Angle 100% should’ve been doing something better than wrestling Kane on this night. Kane was solid at this time, don’t get me wrong, but Angle was the last man in the Rumble with Trips, challenged Trips for the #1 Contendership at No Way Out & then now a pointless match with Kane? It felt like a giant step back for the Olympic Hero. Wonder if this was the plan all along or was Kurt supposed to wrestle someone else?
148. Team Johnny vs Team Teddy (WM28) So I liked Johnny Ace as an authority figure, I’m in the minority on that one probably, but I really dug him. Teddy Long on the other hand, despite not really doing anything wrong & him filling the role perfectly, I was sort of over. He had been GM for a LONG time, so Smackdown needed an upgrade. This match was just a ton of people who weren’t doing anything on the card, thrown into the match just to fill the card. Guys like Drew McIntyre, who they hadn’t used in months (maybe a year at this point) were just used as a random filler guy, there’s comedy with Santino, but the biggest part of this match was Eve kicking Zack Ryder in the Bro-nuts after everything was over. That’s essentially Zack Ryder’s biggest Mania moment & I don’t see that changing. This was your typical clusterfuck, but for some reason, I actually liked it.
147. HHH vs Owen Hart (WM14) Even as a teenager, I was confused as to why Owen Hart stuck around in the WWF after the Montreal Screwjob. Bret, Bulldog & Neidhart were all gone, but Owen decided to stay. I shudder to think what would’ve happened had Owen went to WCW, then again, maybe he’d still be alive today had he gone to WCW. That’s not what this is about though, it just seemed like Owen vs Trips always ended up in Owen looking like an idiot. In this case, Sgt. Slaughter was chained to Chyna on the floor & she laid him out, interfered anyway & got Trips the win. And then he’d lose again to Trips the next month. Trips never seemed to get his comeuppance in this feud, as Owen was always on the losing end whenever they actually fought. They had good in ring chemistry together, but I was just hoping for more. Then again, when they shook up DX & they started becoming faces, Owen was pretty much forced to become heel.
146. Taka Michinoku vs Aguila (WM14) Sticking with WM14, we go to the Light Heavyweight Division where, around this time, it was already forgotten about, less than a mere 2-3 months after crowning its first champion in Taka Michinoku. It just seemed like Vince lost interest & Taka was lost in the shuffle until joining Kaientai mid 98. This match really had no build, but both guys put on a great match. You didn’t see these kinds of matches all that often in the WWF around this time (with the exception of Taka vs Great Sasuke the previous year). So while WCW was dominating with cruiserweight talent, this was the only high profile light heavyweight match the WWF truly had. Taka was a fine champ; I just wish they had a better group of challengers to wrestle for the title. Michinoku Driver was rad though.
145. The Shield vs Big Show, Randy Orton, Sheamus (WM29) I first saw Seth Rollins wrestle in 2005 in his debut match for IWA-MS, he was 18 at the time. Flash forward to 2013, he’s competing at Wrestlemania (not to mention Mania 31, we’ll get to that, trust me). I’ve only met the dude a few times in town outside of wrestling, but just knowing it’s a regular dude from the Quad Cities makes it pretty surreal to see. When The Shield debuted, I was all in & I’ll continue to be a mark for the guy. Dean Ambrose I liked in the death matches I’d see from CZW & I remember being psyched when they were going to do Foley vs Ambrose originally, but plans got scrapped due to Mick’s health. I knew nothing of Reigns until NXT, he’s a solid worker, but he’s just being pushed down fans throats, which isn’t his fault, it’s bookings. We’ll get to that problem later, but on this night, The Shield was a united front, they had been destroying everyone & on the grandest stage of them all, they fought Orton, Show & Sheamus, 3 guys they had beaten up before. So really aside from seeing Rollins at Mania, nothing was special about this match. Not to mention Big Show turned on his teammates (classic Big Show, turn number 98 of this year alone I think). Yes The Shield was dominant, but even against 3 of the bigger names in the company, it was a little underwhelming.
144. The Miz vs John Cena (WM27) The IWC’s favorite main event ever. The Miz defeated John Cena in the main event of a Wrestlemania. Was it just to set up the next year (and subsequently the next after that) main event for next year’s Mania main event? Of course, but we’re not talking about that, when you look in the record books, you’ll see that The Miz….defeated….John Cena in the main event of Wrestlemania. Ok, now that it’s sunk in, let’s get to the actual match, it was sloppy & fell apart. This match should no doubt be ranked lower, but for the fact that Super Cena (who over the past few years had made comeback after comeback, defeating what felt like every damn person on the roster, multiple times), lost to The Miz, makes it special for some reason. The Miz I actually liked as WWE Champion though, he was easy to hate, cut good promos & his matches weren’t awful. He was super over as a heel & this was a pretty surprising ending I must say. The Miz took a sick bump on the floor, slamming his head on the concrete & apparently forgot everything that happened after that. Which is a bummer, since he went on to defeat the guy who rarely lost. Well done Miz, many people can’t say they main evented Wrestlemania, but you did & you beat the franchise of the company.
143. Steve Austin vs Scott Hall (WM18) Let’s face it, this wasn’t the highest profile of matches Austin could’ve had at this Mania, however, I really enjoyed this match, quite simply, because it was different. Scott Hall seemed in better ring shape than he was for the past 4 years at this time & was bumping all crazy for Austin. The NWO coming into the WWE was a little underwhelming because they abandoned it so quickly, but then again, they had to with what happened with Hogan. I know it isn’t saying much because he only had a handful of matches when he came back, but this was the most entertaining Scott Hall in his return. Austin wins in a fine match, but just looking back at this card & seeing that the face of the Attitude Era, the guy who got you through the Monday Night Wars, Stone Cold Steve Austin, went on 8th out of 12 matches? It was a bummer.
142. HHH vs Booker T (WM19) So, I hated Trips from mid 2002 through about early 2006. This was during the beat everyone no matter how over they are, win as many titles as possible to get as close to Flair’s record as possible. Difference between Flair & Trips, was that Flair lost to guys, only to come back & beat them again. Trips beat everyone over & over & over again. So on this night, Booker T was easily the most over he had ever been & probably should’ve won the title here, but I guess since Brock was winning the title, they didn’t want 2 new champs? Trying to figure out a reason why. This was a good match, but man did it drag in the middle. Trips put on an Indian Death Lock that felt like forever & eventually pinned Booker with a Pedigree. Such a letdown. Not to mention the buildup was pretty bad with Triple H bringing up Booker’s criminal past. So dumb.
141. Cruiserweight Open (WM20) Can you imagine how rad this match would’ve been had it been given enough time & not totally rushed? The cruiserweight division was stacked in the WWE looking back on it. Had they bumped one or two matches off this card, these guys would’ve shined. Instead, we got super quick pinfalls, weird eliminations & a guy who won who was already dated in the division in Chavo Guerrero, who, despite being entertaining with Chavo Classic, didn’t really do it for me. Wish Chavo would’ve been taken seriously in US title matches or IC title matches. Guys like Ultimo Dragon, Shannon Moore, Nunzio, Jamie Noble, Funaki all barely got chances to do anything. It was nice to see Kidman & Mysterio have a little match in here, but then things got so weird as Tajiri misted Akio, eliminating him, then Chavo came in & rolled up Rey for the win, that’s it. Very dumb ending to a match with so much potential. Meanwhile Paul London is in the back wondering if they just forgot about him in this match? Dude should’ve been in this match, that should’ve have 10 more minutes instead of going just 9 total. Also, how cool is that picture? Everyone involved in the match. I'm assuming that's Ultimo Dragon on the far right.
140. Jake Roberts vs Rick Martel (WM7) When I was a little kid, I bought into this hook, line & sinker. I thought both guys were legit blindfolded, but then I learned they could see perfectly fine through the hood & I felt like a dope. Give credit to Jake & the incredibly underrated Rick Martel, as they pulled this off incredibly well & all the reactions Martel had to missing Jake and vice versa, it all came together perfectly. Jake using the crowd to help him find out where Martel was & The Model trying to drop an elbow, hilarious. The ending was perfectly executed as well as it really made the DDT make it be like he could hit it out of nowhere, no matter what the circumstances were. This was the culmination of a wonderful, underappreciated feud IMO, as I’m very happy Jake has his place in the Hall of Fame, but it’s an incredible miscarriage of justice that The Model isn’t in there already.
139. HHH vs Sting (WM31) So it finally happened, the “what if’s” finally came to an end as the last holdout of World Championship Wrestling, their franchise, took on one of the faces of the Attitude Era & The Game. And while even I think this match is ranked high, the nostalgia with DX & the NWO facing off, it was pretty rad. Scott Hall, after all he had been through, took a back body drop on the floor! Kevin Nash looked great & Hogan, well, was Hogan. Although I’m just shocked Hogan didn’t try to pin Sting & HHH out of habit. Now, putting that aside, we get to the actual match, it was bullshit. I still can’t believe that after all this time, Sting comes into the WWE……and loses. For what? To stroke Vince’s ego one last time? Did he really need that? Can’t he just look at the money that he’s made off WCW’s ashes & be satisfied? Of course not, not if you’re one of the biggest egomaniacs in the world. Sting came in & lost, awful. Granted the match wasn’t anything special & Sting looked every bit of 56, despite it being pretty cool to see him in the WWE ring. Triple H should never have won this & honestly had Sting won, I would’ve absolutely ranked this higher. What should’ve been a triumphant moment of good over evil was anything but.
138. Trish Stratus vs Victoria vs Jazz (WM19) If there was anyone who improved the most in the Divas division throughout the Attitude Era, it was Trish Stratus. She came into the WWF as this big boobed smoking hot Canadian valet & no one could’ve predicted she’d become as great in the ring as she did. Late 2001-mid 2003 was really a prime time for Women’s wrestling in the WWE as you had some great performers that, yes, some of them were models previously, but they knew how to wrestle. Which is something you couldn’t say a few years later during the Diva Search days. Trish & Jazz had a fantastic series of matches that I think only both got better from as time went on. Add to that Victoria & her underrated relationship that I always enjoyed with Stevie Richards & you had a nice little triple threat right here. I liked the one the previous year more, but in this one, each girl had their shot at winning & ultimately Trish would take the title, but it wasn’t nearly as predictable as it may seem. Which is another positive of the women’s division at this time, the title did change hands pretty often, but it changed hands to talented women, so it was anyone’s game on this night.
137. Hulk Hogan vs Sgt. Slaughter (WM7) I met Sgt. Slaughter last year & had the chance to tell him he was the first wrestler I ever hated as a kid (which is true, he’s the first bad guy I booed), to which he thanked me. It was a pretty cool moment for me, as I don’t go to Wrestle-Con’s or Fan Axxess’, so getting to tell the 1st heel you booed that essentially he did a great job at his JOB, it was awesome. You all know that I was never a Hogan guy as a kid, however I did cheer for him because Sgt. Slaughter hated America, he was the top bad guy & I was only about 6 months into watching wrestling at this time. Being a kid, I didn’t really know about the Hogan bulldozer that would come nearly every year, so I was super happy when Hogan won & defeated the evil Sgt. Slaughter. Sarge did his job perfectly, it’s just the actual war came to an end, so you had a guy supporting the bad guys, but it was over. Good in real life, bummer in wrestling world. USA defeated the Iraqi sympathizer. It wasn’t a fantastic match by any means, but this one always sticks with me as it was probably the least hatable Hogan at this time. Which is 100% a compliment, because the dude was easy to hate moving forward with everything that’d happen with The Undertaker’s 1 day title reign, shenanigans post-Rumble, not facing Flair at Mania, then leaving for a year, only to rob Bret Hart & Yoko of their Mania moment, not wanting to do business against Bret at Summerslam 1993. Yeah, not great. Anyways, I went off the rails there. Hogan was fine & Slaughter was awesome.
136. John Cena vs JBL (WM21) When the WWE put the title on JBL in mid 2004, I was very skeptical. I thought Eddie Guerrero’s reign was cut short, but over time, JBL won me over, 100%. So when we nearly made it a year into his reign, I actually didn’t want it to end. The feud with Cena was built well, so when we got here on this night, you knew exactly what was going to happen. The two young guns in Batista & Cena against the long time champs HHH & JBL. It was going to be the new faces nights, so I remember being very underwhelmed with this one. It was rather quick & I was expecting a LOT more. Granted we’d get more the following months, but Cena winning the title I thought would’ve been more special. 11 minutes, that’s it. For a WWE Championship match, winning against a heel who has carried your brand for close to a year & Cena wins in just over 10 minutes? That’s the most shocking part of this thing. Had they added maybe 6-7 minutes, perhaps I would’ve liked this match more. Who knows, but the era of Cena begins & the very underrated JBL title reign comes to an end.
135. RVD vs Shelton Benjamin vs Ric Flair vs Lashley vs Finlay vs Matt Hardy (WM22) So this was probably the most awkward group of competitors for the Money in the Bank match at a Mania, as Ric Flair, Lashley & Finlay aren’t really who you’d pick to compete in a Ladder match, let alone at the biggest show of the year. Matt Hardy, I get it, because he’s synonymous with this kind of match, Shelton Benjamin the year prior was a star in the match as well. So this was probably the most predictable MITB match as it was really RVD’s to lose, which he didn’t. The match was probably best remembered for Flair taking a suplex off the top of the Ladder by Matt Hardy. I remember the refs holding up the X sign & Flair was helped to the back (which, if he was so hurt, you wouldn’t just put his arm around your neck & have him walk to the back, you’d stretcher him out). Anyways, Flair came back THREE MINUTES LATER & took another fall off the top of the ladder by Finlay. This was essentially the match where Ric Flair was playing the role of Jeff Hardy, which is just amazing to even think about. MITB is notorious for being just a spot match, which, in this case, the best spots arguably went to the oldest guy in the match, the same guy who should never have been taking those bumps to begin with.
134. Tatanka vs Rick Martel (WM8) Unlike their Survivor Series 92 match where the backstory was Martel had stolen the eagle feathers from Tatanka, this match had pretty much zero build, however, I really liked it. They did however have Indians dancing around ringside during this one & it was almost like a Lumberjack Match. Which, I can’t believe Bobby Heenan didn’t make a Lumbee-jack Match references (I’m patting myself on the back for that one), since Tatanka was a Lumbee Indian. The match wasn’t a classic, but these two had great in ring chemistry with one another with Martel being the perfect guy to get over the newer face in Tatanka. It was something you could always rely on from Martel, who I’ve already stated how much admiration I’ve had for the guy. Tatanka won in less than 5 mintues, which, I was fine with, with no backstory, this match didn’t have to go a long time. Well done by both guys.
133. John Cena vs Edge vs Big Show (WM25) I just watched this match last week, because I popped in this Mania & decided to check it out again. Man, did this feud suck going into this match? Edge loses the WWE title at Elimination Chamber, only to come back the same night & win the World title. It was a great story. Then it gets incredibly stupid by having Big Show making out with Vickie behind Edge’s back & John Cena was the one who exposed it. This is your WORLD title storyline for the biggest show of the year. Awful, just awful. The match, honestly, was a good match, as good as a Triple Threat match could be with these guys. The ending I was a little bummed by, Cena tried, and did briefly, picking up Show & Edge on his shoulders for the AA, but Edge slipped off, Cena hit the AA on Show & another AA on Edge on top of Show for the finish. Cena just seemed to swoop in & win the title because it was Mania. Would it have been so bad had Edge weaseled a win out of this? It just felt unnecessary for Cena to get the belt in this case.
132. Fandango vs Chris Jericho (WM29) So here’s the thing, I loved the Fandango character when it first started, the weeks, hell, month’s worth of vignettes promoting the debut of this character, it went on for so long, you couldn’t help but get annoyed. Then when he showed up, he wouldn’t wrestle due to the inability of pronouncing his name right, fucking genius! Then, he went on to BEAT Chris Jericho at Wrestlemania in what was billed as his 1st match, again, genius! Then he got a concussion a few months later & any and all momentum & interest from the higher ups ended immediately. It’s a shame, because Fandango is one of the most athletic guys on the roster & they just fail to see it. He should go to NXT or something, he deserves better, he’s a great in ring talent. This match with Jericho of course won’t be on any Jericho compilations, but it certainly didn’t suck. I don’t care if you’re John f’n Cena, you build a guy up for months before his “first match” and those are the biggest expectations ever, of course you’re not going to live up to them. Instead, we got a good match, nothing historic, but the result was great & you had a new star made, no matter how briefly it was. Fans loved Fandango, it’s just a shame creative lost interest so quickly.
131. JBL vs Chris Benoit (WM22) These two beat the shit out of each other & it was a perfect place to do it. Both guys had their run in the World title picture, but both made the US title look more legit in the process as well. JBL’s pairing with Jillian Hall was kind of funny & sort of made sense, but after time, it just seemed weird that this big boobed woman was his assistant, when we had that exact same thing with Amy Weber the year prior & The Cabinet. JBL stealing the win here was perfect & it made him look like a slimy cheat, which every heel should be. Some might think Benoit should’ve still be in the main event picture, but in the upper card, he still put on great matches & like I said, these two beat the shit out of one another, so there is really nothing to complain about.

Starting on Sunday, we enter the Top 100 WrestleMania matches in history! We're almost there fellas!
130. Ted Dibiase vs Jake Roberts (WM6) One of the greatest promos in Mania history was cut prior to this match by Jake The Snake Roberts, as he was always an amazing talker, able to captivate the audience, but on this night, he was in a whole other league. Take nothing away from Ted Dibiase too, he’s one of the most underrated talkers ever as well, but damn, Jake was perfect on this night, ending his promo saying Dibiase would be “wallowing, in the midst of Everest.” It was a chilling promo & it led to a pretty damn good match as well, however, I didn’t care for the fact that it was for Ted Dibiase’s Million Dollar Championship. That title was an incredible prop for Dibiase, but he never should’ve defended it, because it makes him more hatable when only he considers it an actual title. Regardless, both guys are two of the best to compete & it was a good match & culmination of a feud that ended at Mania, as an upper level feud should.
129. Natural Disasters vs Money Inc (WM8) Ah, we’ve been through this before, tag champs bail & get counted out, then the challengers for some dumb reason think they’ve won the titles anyway. Tale as old as time. I really liked this feud as Jimmy Hart found himself in a managing pickle. His new team Money Inc would become Tag Champs & his main team, The Natural Disasters were left out in the cold seemingly. Out with the old & in with the new for the Mouth of the South. The match was Prime Time Wrestling worthy, nothing really stands out, aside from this being your typical big team, small team match with great heel work by Money Inc, who are hands down one of the most underrated tag teams in history. Most memorable part of this match was a fan taking a swipe at Jimmy Hart on the way out, to which IRS turned around & yelled “throw that asshole out of here!” He did the guy a favor, if that dude got tossed, he didn’t have to see Hogan vs Sid. Thanks Irwin!
128. Chris Jericho vs Roddy Piper, Ricky Steamboat & Jimmy Snuka (WM25) 2/3rds of this match was a disaster & would’ve been ranked well over 100 spots lower had Ricky Steamboat not been in this match. Steamboat is in my Top 10 all time favorite wrestlers list, so when he started a feud with Chris Jericho, I was all in & you could tell, so was Jericho. He was marking out as I remember the early pic he took with Steamboat at a signing & it was just cool seeing Y2J, in his finest heel form, in there with arguably the greatest babyface in the history of the sport. Jimmy Snuka was way too old to be wrestling, let alone against Jericho. Piper as well, as it was kind of sad seeing Piper trying to wrestle like a 25 year old, since he had been through so much health problems. However, nostalgic wise, it was what it was & Jericho bumped like crazy to make them look good. To everyone’s surprise though, Steamboat could still go! Sure he was in his 50s, but damn, he was still skinning the cat! It wasn’t Savage/Steamboat 2, but damn (twice I’ve said that), Steamboat & Jericho had a great little match at the end of this thing. Amazing amount of respect to Jericho & so cool seeing The Dragon out there again. Post match with Mickey Rourke missing a punch Jericho sold, eh, the less said about that the better. The Wrestler ruled though.
127. Andre the Giant Battle Royal (WM30) Take Cesaro out of this match, I wouldn’t have cared one single bit about it. However, freshly broken up from his tag team partner Jack Swagger on the pre-show (pre-show, seriously), Cesaro was more over than ever & had one of the best power displays ever in this thing, picking up Big Show (not the typical guillotine choke & he just falls over the top) up in a bodyslam position & tossing him out to win the thing. The following night, Cesaro would become a Paul Heyman Guy & while many would’ve considered that a great pairing, some key people didn’t, the WWE Creative, because they’re morons. A guy who is arguably the best on the roster, paired with one of the greatest talkers in history, should’ve been handled better than a mediocre push to an IC title contender. Cesaro we all know is the most underrated guy on their roster, never being used to his full potential, but even if he is never used to the level we all think he is deserved to be, he’ll have this Mania moment & not even the idiots in Creative can take that away from him.
126. Randy Orton vs John Cena vs HHH (WM24) So, you’d think with 3 of the biggest names in the company & biggest names for quite a few years, that this would’ve been better, except, it wasn’t. Incredibly forgettable is the only way to describe it. On a card with Edge vs Undertaker, Mayweather vs Big Show & Flair vs HBK, this match is simply forgotten about & for good reason actually. I can’t remember a damn thing about this feud and that’s saying something as it involves 3 of the biggest names in the past 10 years. So the match itself, Orton’s punt put away Trips, who had just hit a Pedigree on Cena. Orton pins Cena to retain the title. You can’t say these guys didn’t have time, it’s just a matter of being on a card that’s totally overshadowed by the greatest of all time’s final match against Ric Flair. Not to mention the incredible main event with Edge & Taker. Not really much you can do, but Cena loses, Orton retains the title, two things that don’t happen often at Mania, but is totally forgotten about.
125. Swagger vs Christian vs Hardy vs McIntyre vs Kingston vs Ziggler vs Benjamin vs MVP vs Bourne (WM26) The reason I liked this match so much was due to the unpredictability behind it. If you told be Jack Swagger was winning this thing, I would’ve called you a liar. He wasn’t doing a damn thing on TV & miraculously won! I loved that, because it was pushing someone new that had never had that opportunity other than a run in ECW-WE. Sure, Swagger couldn’t get the briefcase down to save his life, but the end result was awesome. Every guy in this match had a decent shot of winning, but Swagger came through. Some might think this match was too loaded with guys, which, that might be a viable case, but they all go their spots in & that was that. I like the 6 man MITB more, because it just feels like guys did one move, then laid on the ground the whole time until the finish. Regardless, for the element of surprise, which is rare in the WWE since it’s so damn predictable, I ranked it as high as I did. Well done on your Wrestlemania moment Oklahomie!
124. Hardcore Battle Royal (WM16) This was the biggest clusterfuck in the best way possible. Was it too long, of course, did the ending get fucked up, yup, did they have to do a title switch the following night because the counter was off & even Howard Finkel was confused as to who exactly won, yes he was, but that was the Hardcore Division, so it kind of fit. It was a trainwreck & I loved it all. It just seemed like they threw all the remaining guys not used on this show into this match as Kaientai, Mean Street Posse, Headbangers, Viscera, APA, Hardcore, Crash & Tazz all put on a fun brawl. It’s a shame that within 2 months, Tazz fell into the Hardcore role, but I liked the different title switches with Funaki, the Posse, Viscera, Tazz all getting the belt before the dreaded Tazzmission on Crash, Hardcore hitting his cue too early & the pinfall stopping about 3 seconds too early. Aside from the ending, it was fun & different, capitalizing on the entertainment that the division had become.
123. 20 Man Battle Royal (WM4) From one battle royal to another, only this one was a little more well put together. I liked the guys in this battle royal more (sorry Mean Street Posse), but some of the eliminations were really odd. George Steele was DQ’d because he never got in the ring, seriously? The ending to this match remains one of the most memorable Wrestlemania moments in history, even if Bret Hart looked like a gullible dope in the process. Granted, I know now the pairing of Bad News Brown & Bret Hart had backstory to the Canada days. Anyways, here Bad News & Bret dumped out Paul Roma & JYD and celebrated their win. Two guys winning the trophy, that’s not happening, as Bad News levels Bret with the Ghetto Blaster & tossed him. Pretty cool moment to follow as Bret destroys the trophy & stands tall. Nice little moment for the Hitman, who wouldn’t get another singles moment until 4 years later.
122. Chris Benoit vs MVP (WM23) Chris Benoit & MVP had good chemistry in the ring, as I had to think about which Benoit Mania match to rank higher, this one or the JBL one, but I decided on wrestling over brawling. MVP really hadn’t gotten to show off that he was a real solid wrestler in the ring until he faced Benoit & he came out looking great when it was all over. This was the beginning of a good feud, with Benoit winning here & the next month at Backlash, only for MVP to come back & win 2 falls straight at the next show. Overall it made MVP look fantastic. Strong match, sort of an underrated little gem that goes unnoticed because of the dark cloud which followed for Benoit’s name a few months later.
121. Randy Savage vs Greg Valentine (WM4) Two former IC champs going into this show as they put together a pretty good match for a Quarterfinal match of a tournament. Was Valentine going to win, absolutely not, but he was a totally different challenge than Butch Reed was & a different challenge than One Man Gang was going to be in the next round. Savage was on fire this night & Hammer was seemingly the perfect opponent for him in this round. Macho Man wins in a nice 6 minute match & off to the semi’s he goes, nothing really more to say about this one.
120. John Cena vs Big Show (WM20) John Cena’s face turn was done perfectly & his challenging for the US title was done well too as Big Show was pretty much dominant as the champ. This was pretty much the first time everyone saw Cena as a legit power guy as he hoisted Show up early in the match with a FU, which kind of took away from the closing moments of the match when he clocked Show with brass knucks & another FU for the finish. It was probably Cena’s biggest win to date as it started off Mania 20 pretty strong. They handled Cena’s turn, eventual US title reign, then push slowly into the main event so well. They didn’t push him into the main event until he was ready, something they seemed to forget how to do with Roman Reigns recently. People can bitch about Cena all they want, but his ascent to the top was handled incredibly well.
119. Jazz vs Trish Stratus vs Lita (WM18) Canada’s favorite girl, Trish Stratus was fighting for the title in her hometown, there was no way she was losing this one. These three ladies put on a great match, but it sort of got robbed of time, which is incredibly unfortunate, as they didn’t deserve that. They deserved their chance to shine at Mania & even though they didn’t have much time, they took advantage of what they had as this is a great little underrated match. Jazz was getting into gear, Lita was always great & Trish had come a LONG way in just a few months. There was no weak link in these three as they all gelled together very well in the ring together.
118. John Cena vs Rusev (WM31) The award for Most Raddest Entrance to a Guy Who Gets Completely Buried After This Show goes to Rusev hands down, he had a leggy blonde by his side & rode in on a fucking TANK! Then John Cena came in & beat him, then beat him again & again. You’d think I was being sarcastic, but no, John Cena, after losing to Rusev the month prior, went on to defeat him 3 straight PPVs. Honestly, Rusev hasn’t recovered since, as he was an absolute monster heading into this show, but should’ve 100% beaten Cena if not at this show, one of the others. It was embarrassing, as no way can you build up a guy only to lose 3 PPVs in a row. Despite this leading to the John Cena Open Challenge, which gave us Cena’s best matches in years, this match was a very good one. I just disliked the end result. Lana looked damn incredible though, which is no surprise. Really wish she wasn’t such a heat magnet backstage, because I wonder how much she’d be pushed if she wasn’t. Regardless, enjoy the Lana bikini pic bonus. My list & she's only on this list once, so I'll do what I want!
117. Hulk Hogan & Mr. T vs Roddy Piper & Paul Orndorff (WM1) Here it is, the first main event ever in Mania history & from a wrestling standpoint, it sucked, but from a historical standpoint, it remains synonymous with the name Wrestlemania. Without this match, Vince may never have become a billionaire. It was a perfect blend of mainstream celebrity colliding with the WWF & Mr. T was fine in that role. Piper vs Hogan was the hottest feud in the company at the time & people tuned in not just to see the guy from the A-Team, but to see Piper get his ass kicked by Hogan. Hulk, not being conceited in the least, has said without Hulk Hogan there would be no Vince McMahon, that is true. However, without Roddy Piper, there would be no Hulk Hogan, something that Terry so conveniently forgets. Orndorff & Orton were great chronies & Jimmy Snuka was, well, there. Pat Patterson was the ref so you knew they didn’t want to take any chances in Mr. T forgetting cues, so someone reliable like Pat was given the nod in this one. Memorable yes, but not for the wrestling. WWF was off & running.
116. Big Bossman vs Mr. Perfect (WM7) Mr. Perfect was one of the greatest IC champs in history, but in all honesty, he didn’t have too many huge title defenses. Instead he actually made the title mean something on TV, not to mention his in ring skills were incredible (I’m not saying perfect). He had a feud with the Texas Tornado, Big Bossman & Bret Hart, that was really it, but any wrestling fan remembers his title reign. Perfect was a the big heel & cut a ridiculously awesome promo before the match “there’s only one & you’re looking at him” and the match he bumped all over the place. Every bit of offense Big Bossman threw, Perfect bumped around & flipped for everything. Andre the Giant at ringside I was sort of sad about, because he wasn’t in the best shape, but on the other hand, it was just great to see Andre as this was his final Mania appearance. Bossman laid out the Heenan Family as Perfect bailed & it was a pretty good finish, or as good of one you could have in a DQ finish.
115. Razor Ramon vs Jeff Jarrett (WM11) I really enjoyed these twos match from the Rumble a few months prior, as Jarrett winning the IC title legit surprised me as a kid, as I was a big Razor fan. Baiting Razor to come back & fight after Razor had lost via countout was genius on Double J’s part, but foolish on Razor’s. So it led to this rematch & the involvement of the 123 Kid & Roadie was fine, but I felt was a bit much. I liked the heel having the advantage with his backup in his corner, but maybe 123 Kid could’ve come down to help out during the match, I just thought it was too much. Regardless, both dudes had great chemistry (which I’ve said like twelve times now in these rankings & I’m sure I will 12 times more at least), but on a Mania card that was pretty weak, I feel this match is forgotten about because the main event & co-main event are the two matches most remembered. The rest is just tossed to the side, but this is a nice little match that I suggest checking out if you want to see a solid IC title match at Mania.
114. Hart Foundation & Danny Davis vs The British Bulldogs & Tito Santana (WM3) When I started watching wrestling, it was in 1990, so I didn’t really watch the earlier Mania’s until about 4-5 years later when I’d rent every wrestling VHS at the video store (I miss the hell out of those days). So when I popped in WM3, it was the first time I discovered the Hart Foundation were bad guys prior to them being faces in 1990. Then I realize Jimmy Hart is with them & it made sense, Danny Davis though, I couldn’t even explain it to you to this day. I get he was the corrupt referee & was in the back pocket of Jimmy Hart, but he couldn't wrestle a lick, so why would these guys want to team with him in an actual match? This match seems to be overshadowed by the IC title match, regardless of Davis' involvement. Were we supposed to see Davis at the same level as Chico? What a slap in the face! I would've preferred the Bulldogs vs Hart Foundation for the Tag Titles on this show.
113. Virgil vs Ted Dibiase (WM7) This is the biggest compliment I could give to Ted Dibiase, he took chicken shit & made it into chicken salad. It’s a testament to the Million Dollar Man that this feud was enjoyable as it was. Roddy Piper being in Virgil’s corner helped him build this match on commentary all the time as Virgil couldn’t talk well & couldn’t wrestle that well either, I mean, his finisher in squash matches on TV was a Side Russian Leg Sweep! So this match was a showcase for Dibiase as he carried this match from start to finish & had to do that for months after. Virgil isn’t the worst wrestler in the world, he may be the worst wrestling personality in the world in his post career (shaking down people for money at conventions, trying to sell autographs in the New York Subway, just to name a few). So the match was fine, but the post match with Sensational Sherri was pretty brilliant as she breaks off from Savage & joins up with Dibiase in one night. I loved that pairing & thought it should’ve gone on longer, but the beating they put on Piper (who flung his crutch & nailed a ref in the nuts) was great.
112. Owen Hart & British Bulldog vs Vader & Mankind (WM13) So there were always rumors that Mankind & Vader were going to fight in some crazy wild hardcore brawl at this show, but Vince got stage fright & called it off and instead teamed both dudes up against the established team of Owen & Bulldog. It made some sense since both guys were managed by Paul Bearer at the time, but Vader was just teaming with Owen & Bulldog less than 6 months prior, so there was no reason to fight them. It was a thrown together match since all the other teams were occupied & pretty weak next to Owen & Bulldog. At least you look at Mankind & Vader and think they could definitely win the titles. It also made the tag champs fight a totally different type of team, as the most hardest hitting team Owen & Bulldog had faced up to this point was probably the Godwinns, which, they weren’t that tough at the time (when the Godwinns turned heel, that’s when they started beating the piss out of guys). A throwaway finish was what was needed to keep all the guys strong, but I wish we had a winner.
111. Kane vs HHH (WM15) The heel turn of Chyna on DX never seemed right to me. She just seemed out of place on her own as part of the Corporation. I wasn’t interested in her pairing with Kane either. However, this feud with Triple H I really didn’t mind because, Triple H shot a fucking flame thrower at the Big Read Machine. And he randomly did it dressed as Goldust before Kane was supposed to wrestle him, which made it even more cool for some odd reason. So this match was fine, with nothing really to make note of, other than Chyna turned on the Corporation & joined back up with DX. It was a pretty cool moment to see her reunited with Trips, but then it’d all come together later in the night when they turned on DX. Chyna went from face, to heel, to face, to heel in the span of 2 months. A record that would hold until Big Show would shatter it with 48 turns within 2 weeks.

RandomOne, interesting that you forgot Kane vs Angle. We all did. I actually spoke to JR about this as to me it should have been HHH vs Kurt Angle for the title in this mania main event which would have bow wrapped a long running storyline with Stephanie/H/Angle. That story deserved a mania ending. I'll never understand what happened here. Just as weird was Angle facing Kane was Chris Jericho's first fun as champion. I actually enjoyed it but no one else was really buying it. JR told me he had never thought of that as the potential main event for that mania but he didn't give a shit about my thought/question most likely.

I was actually there for WM22 and I thought Ric Flair died that night never to wrestle again. That was one of two holy shit moments of the night.

I was actually there for WM22 and I thought Ric Flair died that night never to wrestle again. That was one of two holy shit moments of the night. Two Mania moments I verbally yelled "Oh my God" were the Flair bump, and Taker getting dropped by Snuka's kid as a photographer.

I had to re-edit this because I'm dumb & posted 100-91 before 110-101. So they're all in the right order now.
110. Yokozuna vs Bret Hart (WM9) Bret Hart is in my Top 3 all time favorite wrestlers list (Savage, HBK, Bret, Flair, Steamboat are my 5), so as a kid I loved that he was champion in 1993 & he was going against a monster in Yokozuna, who hadn’t even been there that long. So I was really interested & hopeful that Bret could get past this dude in the main event. I was bummed he lost this match due to Fuji shenanigans, but as I grew older and watched this match again, I saw, this match just wasn’t that great. Yoko was gassed FAST, you could absolutely tell & not to mention the end of the match was purely set up to stroke Hogan’s ego, in one of the worst endings to a Mania ever. Bret & Yoko I thought had a much better match the next year and Yoko had even wrestled Luger like an hour before that as well! Regardless, not the best, but not the worst.
109. Molly Holly vs Victoria (WM20) Looking at the list & this is the runner up for best Womens match in Mania history. We’ll get to the number 1 in a while, but these two put on a fantastic match with a pretty unique stipulation, definitely in the womens division. Molly Holly is one of the most underappreciated women wrestlers ever IMO, she was great in the ring, fine on the mic & worked heel and face incredibly well. She played the prude awesome & when she finally got her head shaved, you knew she was willing to do anything for the company. Which, sadly, I wish the company felt the same, because they really didn’t use her a bunch after this. Aside from the ripping the wig off, she wasn’t used. I wish these two had more time, but they were sandwiched in between Angle/Eddie and Taker/Kane. I mean, for the spot they were in, both ladies did great. Victoria, I’ve talked about already in the WM19 match, but we all know how awesome she was in the ring, so she deserved this moment just like Molly. They delivered, even if the WWE wasn’t really behind the Divas like they should.
108. Greg Valentine vs Ricky Steamboat (WM4) So looking back on this match, it bummed me out so much, because we were robbed of Savage vs Steamboat 2. I can only assume it’s because that match would’ve no doubt stolen the show & the rest of the tournament would’ve been mediocre at best. Granted the eventual main event was awesome, but that would’ve blown the tits off Trump Plaza. However, we instead got, what I think, was a huge upset in this thing with the Hammer beating the Dragon. 2 former IC champs with Valentine getting a win. This was a great match & I realize early tournament matches need less time, but damn, Ricky needed more time out there. He was about done with the WWF around this time, so maybe that played into the decision as well? Regardless, if you have time, watch this match, it’s incredibly underrated as it gets lost in this big tournament.
107. John Cena vs Batista (WM26) In a match that probably should’ve happened a few years earlier, but just simply didn’t. Batista & Cena had pretty much the same career, coming up through OVW, joining the main roster around the same time, over time growing in popularity, winning their first World titles at WM21, it all added up. Cena carried RAW, while Dave carried SD. This was a perfect fit, so you knew damn well that Batista wasn’t going to be the face, so him turning heel the year prior, it set the wheels into motion. Their first fight was at Summerslam & Cena hurt his neck, so you had time to build this match even more. Batista won the World title & they had their program set. Unfortunately, everyone wanted to see Taker/HBK, so this was the final match before the main event, so fans seemed kind of deflated. This wasn’t a bad match by any means, I really liked these two guys wrestling, but I think had it happened earlier, it would’ve had more of a big fight feel.
106. Lawrence Taylor vs Bam Bam Bigelow (WM11) Many thought HBK vs Diesel should’ve been the main event of this show, looking back on it, maybe that was true, however, I think they got it right on this show. This was the match that sold Mania, people wanted to see LT wrestle and despite being one of the best wrestlers in the world, HBK wasn’t main event level yet. He would be, just not yet. Granted the HBK/Diesel match was a better overall match, this one, from a storytelling standpoint, was better. The NFL vs the….Million Dollar Corporation, that was the weakest part of all this. Mono McMichael, Reggie White, Carl Banks, Rickey Jackson, Chris Spielman & Ken Norton all accompanied LT to the ring. On the other end……Nikolai Volkoff, Tatanka, IRS, Kama & King Kong Bundy. Not the strongest bunch of heels, but hey, it was 1995. LT didn’t do nearly as bad as many probably thought he’d do, but that’s also a testament to Bam Bam Bigelow, who sold the fuck out of everything. He really deserved a bigger push for this match as Bigelow showed he could really come through in the clutch in the big time match. Plus, he scared Salt n’ Pepa at the stage when they were singing LT to the ring, which, for 1995, was a nice touch.
105. Steve Austin vs Savio Vega (WM12) Trying to figure out exactly when Steve Austin started to become more cold, serial killer-esque. The transition from Ringmaster to Stone Cold was pretty quick, thankfully, although this was during the period where Austin was still managed by Ted Dibiase, so it just looked weird. Austin changed into a character who needed no friends of allies, so having a manager, despite it being one of the best in Dibiase, felt unnecessary. This feud was incredibly hard hitting & I think looking back on his career, it was Savio’s more memorable feud as these two beat the piss out of one another. Many of the Mania 12 matches get forgotten about, because of the main event, but this one was very good. Just over 10 minutes, these guys had time to work & they did a great job. Austin won thankfully & they continued their feud the following month with an incredible strap match, which they had to film again because of a bad storm knocking the power out.
104. Brutus Beefcake vs Mr. Perfect (WM6) Probably wouldn’t have had Brutus Beefcake of all people snap the winning streak of Mr. Perfect, but these two honestly had one of the best matches on the card this year. I said this in the Survivor Series rankings, Beefcake could wrestle when he wanted, he was no slouch in the ring simply collecting a paycheck, and he could wrestle. Not the caliber of Mr. Perfect, but these two worked well with one another. The end was actual pretty good because it was out of pure luck that Perfect had smacked the ring post & knocked HIMSELF out and Brutus took advantage & got the pin. So in a sense, Perfect defeated himself. Post match with Genius getting put out by the sleeper (which took probably 10 seconds, he really fought, but went out way too quick) and Brutus strutted around the ring. Harmless as Perfect would go on to win the IC title & Beefcake wouldn’t be so lucky as he’d have that bad accident with the boat. Both guys put on a little underrated gem of a match here, so I suggest checking it out.
103. Randy Orton vs Cody Rhodes vs Ted Dibiase (WM26) It’s weird, I really liked Legacy, I enjoyed everyone involved (except for when they added Manu & Sim Snuka for about a month), but it never seemed like they had an end game figured out for these guys. Dibiase & Cody could’ve been poised for huge pushes following this match/feud, but aside from occasional main event spots on TV, it never materialized, which sucks. I still truly believe it could for Cody Rhodes, as Ted Dibiase left to be a family man, which I have a tremendous amount of respect for. How Cody Rhodes hasn’t main evented a PPV on his own yet is beyond me, if just baffles me, as he’s one of the most talented guys on the roster, an excellent promo, charismatic, he’s the whole package, it sucks they don’t see it. Randy Orton didn’t need to win this match, AT ALL, he was already established, multiple World title reigns, how about you have one of the other two guys, who had been under your wing for months, get a win at the biggest show of the year? Dumb booking, which is a trend. Also, notice Cody Rhodes doing the Blue Steel pose in this pic?
102. Undertaker vs Jake Roberts (WM8) Just the 2nd year into the Mania run, Taker tombstoned his opponent on the floor & it was rad. The feud between Jake & Taker was built pretty descent for how little of time they had. I really had hoped they’d do Jake vs Savage at this show, but unfortunately they never got a final blow off of their feud. What happened instead was a face turn that would make the Undertaker one of the most popular superstars of the next 6-7 years. All it took was preventing Jake from smacking Elizabeth with a chair & they were off to the races. This sadly was Jake’s last big time match in the WWF, as I’m not going to really count the 96 return as it just wasn’t the same. This was the last badass heel Jake we’d see as he cut a fantastic pre-match promo before going out & putting on a great match. What could’ve been as I wouldn’t have minded seeing these two face off a few more times. I bet Taker would’ve loved it too, he wouldn’t have had to carry 360 pounders (or heavier) in feuds for the next few years.
101. John Cena vs The Rock (WM29) This was essentially a rerun of the previous year’s Mania, except the fact that The Rock had a hernia, torn abductor & torn abdominal muscle, apparently early in this match too. So it’s pretty amazing that the Great One gutted it out to get through this one. The problem is I didn’t want to see this match again. The Rock shouldn’t have beaten Cena at the previous Mania (we’ll get there), as the whole “Once in a Lifetime” tagline was thrown out the window. Also, Punk/Taker pretty much blew Brock/Trips & this match out of the water, so there was really no way they could top that. Crowd seemed not nearly as interested in this one as they did the last time these guys wrestled as the ending was pretty damn predictable. Why would Rock beat Cena for a second year? Regardless, I still liked the match; it didn’t suck by any means. However it just simply wasn’t needed. I was more than happy after the 1st one. CM Punk vs Cena, despite happening a bunch, wouldn’t have been a bad main event. Then again, had that happened we wouldn’t have gotten Punk vs Taker.

Top 100, let's do it! Going to try to post twice a week leading up to Mania, almost there! These were the hard ones to rank, odds are you'll disagree with quite a few, so let me know what you think.
100. HHH vs Chris Jericho (WM18) Poor Y2J, dude busted his ass during the Invasion storyline, finally wins the Undisputed title, has a good few months, but was booked like a total bitch leading up to Mania. He was a fantastic smart ass heel, like only Jericho can be, but leading to this show, he was literally booked as Stephanie McMahon’s bitch. He carried her bags, was at her beckon call, it was embarrassing. He never stood a chance in this storyline with Steph & Trips, he was the lackey, the third wheel, basically keeping the title warm for Hunter. With how predictable this match was, it should’ve gone on in the middle of the show. The Rock vs Hogan should’ve closed Mania this year and when you have two of the biggest icons in wrestling history, going at it in, arguably the biggest dream match in well over 10 years (arguably ever up to this point), forget the unwritten rule of title goes last. Did the title go last at Mania 8? No, did it go last at 11? No! So, it should’ve been in the middle on this show as well. The match itself was fine, both guys are great in the ring together, it just seemed like the crowd was spent following Hogan/Rock and nothing could get them back, especially not this feud.
99. British Bulldogs vs The Dream Team (WM2) The best match on the worst Wrestlemania isn’t necessarily something to brag about, but this was an excellent tag match. Ozzy was in the Bulldog’s corner………let that sink in. I only remember him on the mic yelling “BRITISH BULLDOG’S FOREVER!!!!” which, I guess is more memorable than most of the celebrities on this show. The Bulldog & Dynamite were an awesome team, you already know that, but, I’ve said this before, The Dream Team was pretty underrated, they get forgotten when talking about good teams in the 80s. They had a strong tag title run as Beefcake & Valentine teamed very well. This match got time, which, if this was all one combined Mania, instead of the 3 locations, I’m not sure they would’ve gotten 13 minutes, but I’m happy they did. Arguably the Bulldogs biggest moment as a team in the WWF as the crowd was on fire. If I were to suggest any match in this show, it’d be this one.
98. CM Punk vs Mark Henry vs Kane vs MVP vs Shelton Benjamin vs Christian vs Finlay vs Kofi Kingston (WM25) The addition of Christian to this thing was the wild card, because he was fresh off his run from TNA & was probably the odds on favorite in this thing. Add to that, I didn’t think they’d pull the trigger on Punk again, but they happily did. There wasn’t any super big moments in this thing, aside from the usual Shelton spot & Kofi had a pretty good Boom Drop onto the ladder laying on two dudes. I liked the lineup more, which is why this is higher than the other MITB. This was also the match where Hornswoggle had the mini ladder & did his deal. So Punk wins in a somewhat surprise, as it was a good way to get the crowd going. Nothing really more that needs to be said about this. Good match, not great.
97. The Undertaker vs Bray Wyatt (WM31) One of the most impressive elements of the Undertaker as a performer in the WWE, is the visual element. When you have the man, who was described as the Lord of Darkness, come out to the ring…….in daylight, it takes a bit of the aura away from the character. That’s the bad part of having Mania in stadiums with an open roof; you make a pretty big sacrifice. On a year that was pretty big, coming off his first Mania loss, you’d expect more from Taker & his entrance, but alas, there’s simply nothing he himself could do. He can’t control the weather, but can only control whether or night the lights go on or off in arenas. Bray Wyatt built interest in this match, single handedly. Undertaker did nothing, which was a bummer, because had he done ANYTHING, maybe they could’ve really gotten something going. Instead, Wyatt carried this whole thing, Taker comes back & beats him, leaves again, bada bing bada boom. It sucks, I hate that about wrestling. This match was good, but it just felt like it was missing something. It really took me out of the match knowing Taker was just leaving and Wyatt was back to the drawing board. He should’ve gotten something, anything out of this, but all he got was a loss at Mania after he did all the work to build it. You have Undertaker, use him to build the damn match!
96. HHH vs The Rock vs Mick Foley vs Big Show (WM16) Probably the most over the top Mania main event, as this was so overbooked, but then again, it’s the Attitude Era, nearly everyone on the damn roster had a spot on this card. A McMahon in every corner, seems like a clever little concept, only that it just seemed forced. Vince was the good guy heading into this show? Gee, who didn’t see that heel turn coming, well, I guess the Rock. Linda, who shouldn’t be on TV, in the corner of Mick Foley, who retired the month prior. Shane O’Mac’s random alliance with the Big Show & then there’s Trips, who was the top heel, with Steph, who was awesome. Here’s the problem, Big Show was eliminated less than 5 minutes into this thing. What a waste of time! Then you have a Triple Threat, including the rough dive Foley took, failing to make the announce table, go for 20 minutes, then Rock/Trips went another 15. 36 minute match and your massive giant falls within 5 minutes. Look, I get that you want to show off your top talents, but did this really need to go almost 40 minutes? It seemed way too much. I liked it at the time, because I was a teenager & any wrestling was awesome, but looking back on it, just have the Fatal 4 Way & Vince cost Rock the title. Nothing more needs to be done.
95. Hulk Hogan vs Vince McMahon (WM19) Vince couldn’t wrestle a lick & Hogan, well we all know how I feel about Hogan. Although in 2002, I loved Hollywood Hogan, it was my favorite work of his. Matches with Angle, Jericho, Brock, teaming with Edge, he worked with younger guys & it was cool to see the biggest egomaniac put that aside & help the young guns on the SD roster. Anyways, I digress, he had come back in 2003 to build for this match with Vince & it’s probably the easiest feud you could build a match off of. These two hated each other & Vince felt like Hogan turned his back on him and joined the competition that damn near put him out of business. This match was a war, some amazing bumps & bloody as hell. Add to that the addition of Roddy Piper, which no one saw coming, you have yourself quite the memorable match.
94. Mickie James vs Trish Stratus (WM22) Here it is, the all time best Women’s match in Wrestlemania history & boy was it a creepily awesome storyline. The stalker angle has been played out in wrestling, but Trish & Mickie took it farther and upped the creep factor with Mickie going psycho. Fantastic build that led to an incredible match as, despite only really being in the company less than what, 6 months, Mickie was great! The hand on the crotch, then licking, was creepy as fuck, which they’ve edited out of more current showings of this match, but it was a weird holy shit moment that didn’t involve a wrestling hold. Trish was creeped out the perfect amount & the mind games ended up working out in the long run for Mickie, as you can’t say that very often about a heel, as she won the title! These two had amazing chemistry in the ring & in vignettes, as it showed that two very talented women could put on one hell of a match at the biggest show of the year. Well done.
93. Batista vs HHH (WM21) The slow build of Batista turning on Evolution was a long time coming. It was built to this moment & it delivered. Out of Cena/JBL and Batista/Trips, this one blew the other one out of the water. I absolutely hated Triple H around this time, getting pointless title reigns just to up his total was pretty sickening, as it buried, yes buried, guys like Randy Orton, who deserved more than a month with the title. How they could judge that he doesn’t deserve a longer reign in ONE MONTH is beyond me. Anyway, back to this match, Batista showed he could hang in the main event, the crowd was fully behind him & it was a great Mania moment and main event. I can’t deny when Triple H wants to turn it on, he can friggin’ go in the ring. He’s one of the best, no question about it, he made Batista look like a million bucks & they were off & running with their new face for the RAW brand, for the time being. Hard to believe that Dave was a deacon less than 3 years earlier.
92. Eddie Guerrero vs Test (WM17) This match had nowhere near being as good as it was. Nothing against either man, it’s just this match didn’t have too much build & on a card that was flooded with amazing matches, this one could’ve been easily forgotten about. However, it’s a testament to Latino Heat & Test as well, that this match is as high in the rankings, because they went out & used the most of their time and had a fantastic match. Dean Malenko & Perry Saturn, rocking a lamp shade on his head, was at ringside & it was a cool moment for the Radicalz to have as a trio, because Benoit was officially broken off & these guys didn’t really get to have a Mania moment together the previous year. This was their moment as a group at least as Eddie won the European title & it was great.
91. Dusty Rhodes & Sapphire vs Randy Savage & Sherri (WM6) Yup, this is a total comedy match, yup, Sapphire brought nothing to the table, yup, it was ridiculous & it’s even more ridiculous that I ranked it this high, but it’s my list dammit! I loved every bit of this match, from the bumping Savage & Sherri did for Dusty & Sapphire, to the absolutely incredible commentary from Jesse Ventura, like this gem “They said with a combined weight of 465 pounds? You’re telling me Rhodes only weighs 200? Because I know DAMN well that Sapphire weighs 2 & a half!” Add onto that, they brought out Elizabeth for the 1st time in about a year & it got a massive pop from the crowd. Everything came together great in this one as it’s heartbreaking that everyone in this match has passed away. I loved the Dusty/Savage feud & by all accounts, it should’ve ended here, but it went on until Summerslam. On this night though, it was fantastic.

90. Evolution vs Rock n’ Sock Connection (WM20) Mick Foley has stated that he felt like he didn’t deliver in this match, but I tend to disagree. We hadn’t seen Mick wrestle in a long time & teaming with the Rock at, up to that point, the biggest Mania in history, I thought he did great. His feud with Randy Orton ranks right up there with my favorite Mick feuds, as it went on for months before culminating at Backlash the following month in one of my all time favorite Mick matches. We hadn’t seen The Rock wrestle in 2 years and he didn’t lose a step, his strut off with Flair was hilarious & remembering the pic of Rock and Flair when he was a little kid, made the moment even more cool. Orton & Batista in there with 3 legends was huge for them as they didn’t look out of place. Batista was still the quiet muscle, Flair was the cocky veteran & Orton, over the past few months, had become the brash & arrogant young gun of the group. It was a huge win for Orton, pinning Foley, setting the stage next month for their showdown. I’m not sure what Mick wanted from this match that didn’t happen? It was an entertaining handicap match that led to an unforgettable showdown the following month. It served its purpose. So while this match itself might not have been one of the best, it certainly was far from the worst. I really liked it.
89. Rick Rude vs Jake Roberts (WM4) The Rick Rude/Jake Roberts/Cheryl Roberts feud was pretty damn entertaining & having these two in the opening round match of the tournament, you knew it wasn’t going to end cleanly. My only complaint was this feud pretty much ended after this. It never got a blow off match. Both guys wrestled different guys at Summerslam, when they should’ve ended the feud there. I digress, as this was probably my favorite non-main event tournament match out of this whole thing. You put both guys out there for a 15 minute time limit draw, which, looking at the brackets, wouldn’t have worked with any other pairing, except maybe Steamboat/Valentine, but they were at the point where that would’ve made zero sense. Both guys fought their ass off & put together a damn fine match, even if there wasn’t a definitive winner.
88. Orient Express vs Rockers (WM6) Perhaps the funniest part of this match was during the Rockers entrance. They cut to a lady with large…..puppies, jumping up and down. There is a younger lady next to her who turns, looks at her jumping, looks back to her chest, then looks down, seemingly dejected. It’s friggin hysterical. Now, onto the match, all 4 guys were some of the most talented overall wrestlers on the entire roster & on a show with tons of matches, they made the most out of their time given. This was a match that really put over the fact that the Orient Express were a dangerous team. Mr. Fuji had sold the contracts of Warlord to Slick & Barbarian to Bobby Heenan (I absolutely love that, when a manager is done with a talent, he sells their contracts to another villain manager), so this was his newest acquisitions. Shawn & Marty were already popular with the fans, but Sato & Tanaka were still new on the scene, so the shenanigans with Fuji’s cane as well as throwing salt into Marty’s eyes, causing him to tumble over the barricade (nice touch), proved they were unpredictable. Excellent tag team match, that, despite not holding a candle to their Royal Rumble 91 match (which is the pic I had to use), still was an exciting little match.
87. Mr. Kennedy vs CM Punk vs Randy Orton vs Edge vs Matt Hardy vs Booker T vs Jeff Hardy vs Finlay (WM23) It seemed odd to have Orton & Edge in this match, but in a way, it gave it even more unpredictability. Kennedy winning wasn’t expected, at least not to me, but there were a few people you knew they wouldn’t give the win to. Booker had his main event run, Jeff wasn’t there yet, Matt & Finlay weren’t going to, Punk, as much as people wanted, wasn’t going to yet, so that left Kennedy & Rated RKO. So I guess from a logical standpoint, Kennedy winning made sense, it just sucks that he couldn’t stay clean or healthy, so his main event push lasted for a cup of coffee (if that). Just give the case to Edge & they were back in gear. Overall one of the more solid MITB matches as Jeff’s legdrop/whoopee cushion off the ladder to the floor was visually spectacular & it didn’t feel overdone. It was what it was, forgettable winner, but a few memorable spots in the match itself.
86. Matt Hardy vs Jeff Hardy (WM25) I disliked everything about the Matt Hardy heel turn, it felt so desperately forced & literally unbelievable. We’re supposed to believe that Matt not only set pyro off in Jeff’s face, but set his house on fire & murdered Jeff’s dog in the process? Seriously, that’s what they wanted us to believe. All because Matt was bummed he was the afterthought. So incredibly stupid. Let’s just set all that nonsense aside, this match, despite being one giant spot fest, was a pretty good spot fest. The spot where Jeff put Matt onto a table, then stacked a table onto him, went to the top & dives through a table onto Matt through another table, which, I understand makes no sense when reading, but was a cool visual. Even though Jeff went through 2 tables for no reason & Matt only went through 1. Then again, sense was out the window as soon as they started this dumb feud. The conclusion with Matt hitting a Twist of Fate with Jeff’s head through a chair was, again, visually awesome, but looking back at it (I re-watched this Mania last week), it looked really safe, which is all you can ask for in this kind of match. It was a match a long time coming, but the sheer lunacy surrounding this; pretty much made it a spot fest & nothing more. Jeff never took Matt to court when he learned he burned his house down & murdered his dog. Oh wrestling.
85. Shawn Michaels vs Tito Santana (WM8) This was Shawn Michaels’ coming out party, no not that way (not that there’s anything wrong with that), but his singles push run was just starting as he looked like a legit threat & it all started with the commentary. Bobby Heenan saying that Michaels had challenged the winner of the IC title match later in the night pretty much set Shawn in that class right there, add to that the gimmick, Sherri, everything, it’s a no brainer. Chico Santana doing playing “best guy to make others look good at a Wrestlemania” perfectly as this was a strong opener on one of my all time favorite Manias. This match didn’t have any build up, but it didn’t need to. Shawn was the heel, Tito was the face, now wrestle. It got a little sloppy at the end, but Michaels collapsed on top of Chico’s bodyslam attempt for the win. Not the dominate victory you’d expect from the future Hall of Famer, but at the time, the guy looked great. I should also point out that it was very gentlemanly of Tito to greet his family member Ar-Reba McIntyre at the ring steps after she sang the National Anthem before the opening contest. What a guy!
84. HHH vs Brock Lesnar (WM29) Hated the ending, hated the stipulation, really enjoyed the build & match itself, so, we’re even I guess. If Trips would’ve lost, he would’ve had to retire, which, you know was never going to happen. So I figured shenanigans would lead to another match next month, except no shenanigans really happened (aside from HBK interference). Instead we had a brawl, which I really dug. 90% of this match I truly liked, it’s just the ending was stupid. Triple H with a Kimura Lock on former UFC World Champion Brock Lesnar and Brock has to sell it like it’s death? Then the Pedigree on the steps & Brock Lesnar…..loses. I don’t care if he got his win back next month, Brock Lesnar up to this point, lost to John Cena, beat Triple H & then lost to Triple H at the biggest show of the year. I could go off on a rant as to why Brock should’ve won against Trips, but you all know already. Match itself was an entertaining brawl, but unspectacular finish.
83. Rey Mysterio vs Matt Hardy (WM19) I loved Matt Hardy V1, I loved his MF’r Shannon Moore, I even loved for the brief time Crash Holly as the Moore-on. The Matt Facts, the training in the sweat suit to get to the Cruiserweight limit, everything was perfect. Only problem with this match, again, like many, was time. Granted both Rey & Matt made the most of it, but 5 MINUTES is all that these two got! Why did we need TWO Limp Bizkit performances? What did we need the Miller Lite broads? Why did Trips vs Booker need to go nearly 20 minutes? Why did an Undertaker handicap match need to go nearly 10? Trim all that & the cruiserweights could’ve had a 12 minute fantastic match. Instead we got essentially a cliff notes version of what they could do. Matt was a great heel & it just felt like Rey lost too quickly. I understand the finish; I just didn’t like how quickly it came. Watch this match though, as it’s really good.
82. JBL vs Finlay (WM24) So two of the toughest guys ever in the WWE beat the hell out of one another for nearly 10 minutes. Sounds like a good opener to me and it was! JBL with the spot of the match, out of nowhere, whipped a trashcan at Hornswoggle on the floor. I mean, no one saw that coming, which made it even better. I really don’t need to say much more about this, Finlay is tough a shit, JBL is tough as shit & they let them have a Belfast Brawl to open a Wrestlemania. It was great, so I definitely suggest checking it out; especially if you want to see two dudes beat the piss out of one another. Repetitive I know, but that’s what it was.
81. Cactus Jack & Chainsaw Charlie vs New Age Outlaws (WM14) Objective of the match, toss your opponents into the dumpster to win the titles. This should’ve been Duke Droese’s specialty, but he wasn’t around long enough to see it. Instead, we got Mick & Funk beating the piss out of the Outlaws in a wild brawl that was the perfect fit for this show. It always amazed me the punishment Terry Funk took, every shot that Mr. Ass & Road Dogg threw, it was to take his head off. Same goes for Mick, but Terry is much older at the time. I loved this match as it’s one of my favorite brawls from Mania. This gets overlooked as whenever Mick said that he never had a Mania moment (before his Edge match) I always looked at this one as his moment. Granted it was a tag team match, but it was exactly the match you’d expect out of these two & it also showed that the Outlaws could hang. In the end they threw the champs in the wrong dumpster, leading to a cage match the following night & the formation of the new DX. All 4 guys did great & I really enjoyed this match.

Are you ranking these on match quality alone? From an overall importance or big moment even though I hate them I feel like Batista vs Triple should be higher than Eddie vs Test. Unless this is just about the match itself as entertainment and quality then I get it.
