Feels like only yesterday I was recapping WCW shows during the pandy for you dweebs. I heard writing an AEW style leads to early carpal tunnel. It does! So does watching Mina Shirakawa. Ahem…

I sure hope Private Party & Komander aren’t still getting a Trios Title match next week after being murdered (again) by the BCC. Mox hammering Zay’s hand was a nice touch.
Jericho vs Orange was Jericho’s best AEW match in ages.
Women’s tag was just a setup for Yuka & Mariah. That’s fine.
Ricochet & Mortos was fun aside from that one missed catch on the dive. They recovered quick and Ricochet gets another win on the road to Billy Goat in 2 weeks (glad they’re advertising matches multiple weeks out).
Main event was crazy action packed. Fletcher winning made the most sense. Tension between Takeshita & Ospreay will lead to something. I have a feeling Mark Davis comes back and Aussie Open reunites under the Callis umbrella and Fletcher turns on Ospreay. Or not, who knows. It’s only a matter of time before Callis turns dastardly on Ospreay.
Next few weeks should be fun Dynamite’s. Grand Slam next week, 5 year anniversary, Title Tuesday, WrestleDream.

Grand Slam card next week Bryan Danielson vs Nigel McGuinness (if Bryan is cleared) Jon Moxley vs Darby Allin (for Allin’s World Title shot) Young Bucks vs Will Ospreay & Kyle Fletcher - Tag Titles Mariah May vs Yuka Sakazaki - Women’s Title HOOK vs Roderick Strong - FTW Title PAC, Claudio & Yuta defend the Trios Titles

Can't believe Dynamite lost to Tyrus... You can't compete with Golden Bachelorette AND Survivor premiers. Just too much to overcome.

Cable TV ratings overall are fine all things considered in 2024. Here's my question and maybe this belongs in the other thread, but the lack of attendance to the weekly TV shows is really bad. When I think about WCW, did the buildings ever look like this, even at the very end? I know they were giving tickets out on occasion, but the buildings seemed full enough. This crowds remind me of the crowds WCW was getting just before Hogan got there. Again, someone feel free to correct me and tell me I'm wrong. Tony can't draw as a booker and somehow that has completely gotten lost by Meltzer and others that cover AEW as if they were on the payroll. Any other wrestling organization in the history of wrestling would have folded simply because they would be bleeding too much money each year. Tony has done a lot of good things and made the WWE a better product (though they'll never admit that). Any other non Trump-like headstart in life by another promoter/organization, would not be able to sustain this. I have to imagine the annual losses are crazy. No normal business would still be running. So back to my question, why can't Tony the Booker draw consistent decent crowds to his TV shows?

The answer is obviously no. They draw well enough for big shows (though those have fallen off as well) but weekly TV is lucky to draw 3500.

There is no national buzz for AEW outside of the people who are already fans of AEW. There is very little crossover appeal right now.
You're right about any other company folding already. But maybe this is what's needed at this point, with WWE so far ahead of anyone else. Maybe you need a billionaire who will take losses for 15 years to build up another company to become viable. I don't know. TNA/IMPACT has been around forever and they're just there.

I think a big reason (obviously not only, so don’t try that) is ticket prices.
I saw they’re coming to Cedar Rapids and checked prices it’s like $250 (including fees) for floor tickets and hard cam a few rows up is $150 for COLLISION. Granted the rest of seating is like $80 and lower (not including fees), that’s still way too high for your second tier show. A program you won’t know who is on it until MAYBE that Wednesday at the earliest if you’re lucky?
They drop prices right towards the end, but they need to realize people see those prices and move on, don’t even think about it again. The amount of times I’ve said “fuck that” to WWE tickets when they came to town.
You want to take the family to some rasslin on the weekend, you have to consider food, merch, drinks, parking, etc. People don’t want to shell out that kind of cash for Collision and I don’t blame them honestly.

WWE needs AEW. Without them, you saw what that company was, it was boring dogshit. Now that there’s another place for people to work and fans to watch, it forced WWE to get their shit together and turn their product around.
The workers definitely should want AEW around, not just for another employer, but without them, WWE could sign up so much AEW talent and many current WWE roster folks would be kicked to the curb quick.
Not to mention podcast twats need AEW because complaining about them and Dave are what they make a majority of their income on and get clicks off of. They don’t dare criticize the mothership as they don’t want to rock the boat with WWE.

I mean, if Shane was going to pop up, tonight would be a perfect time.
I don’t expect him to, but it’d be funny. Vince gets his “gotcha” doc dropping the same day Shane shuffles down to an AEW ring

But coming out tonight with solid creative moving forward could be interesting.

Yea, I don't have much interest in Shane in AEW. I'd rather have Sting out of retirement to end this silly Moxley bullshit on the spot.

They’re selling Outrunners shirts at Grand Slam that say Meat Spin on it with Truth & Turbo in tornados.
Those better sell like Macho Man foam fingers at Summerslam 92. I want to see everyone wearing them!

As I watch Yuka vs. Mariah, it's hitting me that modern wrestling just isn't for me anymore. Dueling slaps. Dueling chops. Dueling forearm shivers. "You hit me, I hit you...boo-yay..." I just don't like what wrestling is anymore, from an in-ring perspective. I'm okay with anyone who still loves it, but I kinda don't anymore.
