WCW Saturday Night (April 1997) Rey Mysterio vs Chavo Guerrero April 5, 1997 They trade waist locks & headlocks to kick things off as Rey gets a drop toe hold & a modified Camel Clutch, but switches to an ankle lock as Chavo flips out. Quebrada by Rey, but Chavo catches him, tries for a lawn dart, but Rey wiggles free and hits a tilt a whirl head scissors. Springing moonsault gets a 2 as Chavo is able to counter a suplex into a clothesline, shoots Rey to the corner, who narrowly gets a sunset flip for 2. Chavo destroys Rey with a powerbomb & goes up top, missing a cross body, allowing Rey to go up & hit a diving West Coast Pop for 3. Fun quick little match.
DDP vs Scott Armstrong April 5, 1997 Back elbows in the corner by Page, who tries a hip toss & settles for a fucking Rocker Dropper, something I’ve never seen from him. Armstrong gets in a few punches, but DDP shoots him to the corner & Scott does a springing clothesline off the second. Page gets a boot to the ribs and hoists him up for the Fireman’s Carry spinning Diamond Cutter for the 3. Crowd goes apeshit for this.
Booker T (w/Stevie Ray & Sherri) vs Rick Fuller April 5, 1997 Knees & a superkick by Book, but Fuller fights back, launching Booker halfway across the ring for a 2 count. Huge shoulder tackle by Fuller, but Booker nails a flying forearm & Harlem Sidekick for a close 2. Just like that, Fuller is up & levels Booker with a clothesline & the big man goes up top for a double axe, but Booker dropkicks him in mid air! Side suplex plants Fuller as Book goes up top & nails a Harlem Hangover flipping legdrop for the 3.
Lex Luger (w/Giant) vs T. Rantula April 5, 1997 Luger shoots the big man to the corner & hits a back suplex in the early going, then signals for the Torture Rack and does it immediately on the 300+ pounder. He wins in seconds as Luger squash matches rule because the crowd loved it and we didn’t have to see Luger sell for job guys, which was always funny.
Chris Jericho vs Mr. JL April 12, 1997 Wheel kick by Jericho starts as he follows with a vertical suplex & some chops in the corner. JL dodges a splash & hits a back suplex for 2, then plants Jericho with a back breaker. Legdrop for another 2 as JL slaps on a rest hold. Chop in the corner as JL goes to the top for a cross body, but can’t follow up as Jericho hits a flying forearm. Atomic drop sends JL into the ropes, he floats over a suplex, tries a victory roll, but Jericho slams him down, then a Lionsault! To the top he goes, Jericho connects with a missile dropkick for the victory. About as solid of a 3 minute match as you can get.
Greg Valentine vs Buddy Lee Parker April 12, 1997 Standard hip toss & headlock by Parker to start as he tries again, but Hammer clocks him with a clothesline. Headbutt in to the sternum by Valentine as he hits a gut buster, back suplex & standing elbow drop to win it. This went under 60 seconds.
The Faces of Fear vs Tombstone & T. Rantula April 12, 1997 The friggin Barbarian is the smallest guy in this match, which is incredible. Meng & Barb straight up murder their opponents to the point where Meng is already out of breath. Tombstone hits a big boot on Meng back inside and tags T. Rantula, who drops Meng with a lariat. Hard chops in the ropes as the big bearded dude eats a Meng cross body & side suplex. Here comes Barb as the Faces hit double headbutts as Barb covers him for 2. Tombstone just comes in & flattens Meng with a clothesline, so Barb drops him to the floor with a shot. They try hitting a powerbomb/neckbreaker on T. Rantula, BUT DROP THE BIG MAN RIGHT ON HIS FUCKING NECK for the 3. This was one of the scariest bumps I’ve ever seen. Just brutal. It was like Villano IV and Kanyon & Raven back in the day. Fuck this was scary. I'll add this video clip of it in the next post.
Maxx vs Roger Boone April 12, 1997 Maxx has dropped his last name, as Boone tries an arm ringer to start, but has zero effect, Maxx just stares at him. Finally he tosses Boone to the corner by his throat & drops an elbow right as his opponent falls to the mat. Side suplex with ease as Maxx poses before hitting his Full Nelson swing for the super quick submission win.
Lord Steven Regal vs Bobby Eaton April 12, 1997 Battle of the Blue Bloods as the former Earl Robert pops Regal with a right hand, so Regal quickly grabs a wrist lock & hair takedown. Regal hooks a headlock, but Eaton gets one of his own, then a shoulder block that Regal sells like a million bucks. Cheap shot by Regal, who just batters Eaton in the ropes, firing off uppercuts & open hand palm strikes in the corner. Eaton reverses a whip & hits a back drop and spinning neckbreaker for 2. Regal blocks a suplex & tries for a butterfly, but they keep countering until Regal is able to hit a friggin piledriver (when’s the last time you saw Regal hit a piledriver?) to set up the Regal Stretch for the win! He boots Eaton to the floor to cement his victory even more. That was a fun little wrestling match.
High Voltage vs Ciclope & Galaxy April 12, 1997 Quick tags by the luchadors early as Galaxy hits a springboard dropkick & Ciclope nails a splash. Galaxy tries a high cross off the top, but Rage catches him & drops a back breaker. Sloppy slingshot splash by Kaos to the back as Rage gets in & hits a release belly to belly for 2. Camel Clutch slapped on by Kaos as Galaxy jumps in & punts him right in the head, as they keep Ciclope isolated. Kaos misses a back elbow as he & Ciclope collide with a double clothesline as Galaxy gets the hot tag. He only gets in 1 shot as Kaos boots him, Rage nails a back suplex & they hit a springboard Doomsday Device with a spinning leg for the 3. This was honestly the most impressive I’ve seen High Voltage.
Lex Luger & Giant vs Power Team April 12, 1997 Again, we don’t know who Power Team is (they high five fans, so apparently they’re also babyfaces), so I’m going with 1 & 2. They are also Power TEAM this show and not Power COMPANY, so maybe they downsized? Giant chops the hell out of 1 in the corner, then shoots him across the ring with a hip toss. Big boots dished out by Giant, who hits a corner clothesline & tags in Luger, dropping a double axe. 1 gets a shot in on Lex, to allow a tag to 2, as they hit a double shoulder tackle & Luger sells it like only he can, overdoing it. 2 lowers his head & eats a Luger boot as Lex suplexes him high in the air and signals for the Torture Rack, but says no, so he can tag Giant, who hits a Choke Slam on 2 for the 3 count.
Chris Jericho vs Super Calo April 19, 1997 Can Calo avenge the loss from last month? He hits a springboard arm drag & springboard head scissors, but Jericho pops up and murders poor Calo with a lariat. Stalling vertical suplex for a 2 count as Jericho goes for a rest hold, but gives up & Calos nails a cross body for 1. Tilt a whirl arm drag sends Jericho outside as Calo hits a dropkick & Tope Con Hilo! Back inside, Calo leaps off the top, but Jericho dropkicks him in mid air! Drop toe hold into a La Magistral gets a 2 count as Calo gets a rope break. They trade standing switches & victory rolls before Calo gets a roll up for 2. He tries a crucifix, but Jericho sits down, hits a Lionsault and the top rope missile dropkick for the 3 count.
Lord Steven Regal vs Villano IV April 19, 1997 Let’s see if Regal can keep his streak alive as he jaw jacks with the crowd before trying a wrist lock, that gets reversed, so Regal quickly goes to the ropes. Uppercuts & a takedown as Villano kips up, ducks a clothesline (that visibly frustrates Regal) as Villano hits a dropkick and small package for 2. He tries a sunset flip, but Regal misses punching out of it, so Villano tries again & gets it for only 2. Diving drop toe hold by Regal, who isn’t messing around, as he palm strikes Villano in the face, slapping on the Regal Stretch for the quick win. Fired up Regal fucking ruled.
Psychosis vs Hugh Morrus (w/Jimmy Hart) April 19, 1997 Chops in bunches by Psychosis to start as Morrus no sells every damn one of them, so he can beat down the luchador in the corner. Massive corner splash as he backdrops Psychosis to the apron, turns his back & the masked man connects with a flying spinning kick that sends Morrus outside. Psychosis tries a dive, lands on his feet, so Morrus just clocks him with a lariat & sends him into the steps. Jimmy Hart distracts the ref while Morrus throws him into the ring, so that was for nothing. Another clothesline, powerbomb & No Laughing Matter moonsault does it, giving Morrus the win.
Glacier vs Jerry Flynn April 19, 1997 3 minute intro as they start with a kickboxing exchange with Glacier foot sweeping Flynn, who answers with a kick to the face. James Vandenberg walks to ringside to distract Glacier, allowing Mortis to hit the ring, but eats a boot as he goes to steal Glacier’s helmet. Flynn attacks Glacier from behind & gets a super close 2 count, then lights Glacier up with kicks, who ducks a wild shot & lays Flynn out with a Cryonic Kick for the 3 count.
Sgt. Craig Pittman vs Jim Powers (w/Teddy Long) April 19, 1997 Pittman still hanging tough here as I thought he was gone. But he’s here and heel, taking on his former manager & his protégé, who is wearing a snazzy denim jacket to the ring. Wrist lock by Powers as Pittman literally in slow motion grabs the ropes, not selling a bit. Powers works an arm bar, then his patented knee lift, but Pittman catches him into a powerslam & headbutt to the hamstring. Leg lock applied as he keeps doing damage until Teddy Long jumps on the apron to tell him to stop. PITTMAN STARTS CHOKING TEDDY as Powers rolls up the Pitbull for the 3 count.
Alex Wright vs Hacksaw Jim Duggan April 19, 1997 This. Match. Happened. This is a 5 minute video and the match itself doesn’t start until 3 ½ minute in. Wright with a reverse waistlock, but Duggan gets the ropes and a clean break. They lock up & Wright goes for a clean break, but Duggan knees him in the gut. Cartwheel & uppercuts by Wright, who eats a Duggan right hand. Uppercuts by Wright answer as Wright tries a moonsault off the top, lands on his feet, but clutches his knee, so Duggan just hits his clothesline & gets the 3 count! What a dick Duggan was in this match!
Diamond Dallas Page (w/Kimberly) vs Roadblock April 19, 1997 Kimberly is wearing a short leather dress, so, WOW. Roadblock launches DDP to the corner & mocks him as Page starts firing off punches, then goes to an armbar. Roadblock tries a hip toss, but DDP gets a knee to the ribs & plants the big man with a DDT. He goes back to the arm & Roadblock quickly clotheslines him down this time. He slams Page down & goes to the second rope, but misses a big splash, DDP gets a back elbow & hits a leaping Diamond Cutter off the second rope for the 3, which was awesome.
Juventud Guerrera vs Ultimo Dragon (w/Sonny Onoo) – Television Title April 26, 1997 Juvi pops Dragon with a spinning leg kick & quick elbow for 2 immediately, but Dragon fires back with a succession of kicks. Neck crank by Dragon who chucks Juvi outside & takes the ref allowing Sonny to light up Juvi with kicks of his own. Juvi floats over a suplex attempt back inside, rolls up Dragon for 2, then gets a roll up off a hurricanarana for another 2. Dragon misses a corner splash as Juvi goes for a rana, but Dragon turns it into a RUNNING LIGER BOMB for the 3 count! Dragon showing tribute to Liger, hell yeah!
Public Enemy vs Villano IV & Mr. JL April 26, 1997 Masked men attack, as Rocco does a moonsault out of the corner, lands on his feet but JL gets a takedown & tag to Villano, who gets a snap powerslam for 2. Quick tag to JL, who hits the ropes and we get a double clothesline double down. Rocco tags in Johnny, who hits a few clotheslines & a back drop on the luchadors. They stop a double noggin knocker & drop Grunges, but Rocco clocks them both from behind. Rocco goes the top & they hit an assisted somersault senton on JL for the win. Post match, Villano tries attacking, but gets put through a table by a somersault Rocco Rock dive for his effort. Honestly, Rocco & Villano both got fucked up in that spot as it looked brutal.
The Steiner Brothers vs Power Company April 26, 1997 I finally looked up who the Power Company is, they’re Dave & Dean Power. So yeah, I’ll be still calling them 1 & 2 as they look like mini-me clones of Scott Steiner. Overhead belly to belly on 1 by Scott, who tags in the Dog Faced Gremlin, barking all over the ring. 1 regroups outside & tags 2, who gets a knee to the midsection & throws some punches, but Rick no sells & creams him with a Steiner-Line. He drops 2 right on his head with a German suplex as Scott wrestles him down to the mat. They take turns with a face lock on 2 before Scott hits a belly to belly & knocks 1 off the apron. Rick up top & they connect with the Steiner Bulldog for the easy win.
Mortis (w/James Vandenberg) vs Mark Starr April 26, 1997 MEN AT WORK EXPLODE!! Mark Starr wants revenge for Chris Kanyon bailing on him and getting a better gimmick than a construction worker. Jump kick in the corner by Mortis, who unloads punches & kicks, but runs into a Starr hip toss. He lowers his head & Mortis nails a swinging neckbreaker for 2. He tries a suplex, but Starr gets a school boy for 2, pops up & Mortis cracks him with a superkick. He drags Starr in the corner & hits his diving leg drop over the head deal for the 3 count. This was the start & finish of the Men At Work feud.

That was 100% Barbarian's fault. Man, that guy was useless. Agreed. Barb just pretty much went to drop and said fuck it.

WCW Saturday Night (May 1997) Meng's Mustachioed Murder Marathon
Chris Jericho vs La Parka May 10, 1997 Knee to the belly by Parka starts us off as they collide with shoulder blocks and neither sell it. Parka dances away & Jericho paint brushes him, tries for a spinning cross body off the top, but Parka dropkicks him in mid air! Jericho dives again, but Parka ducks & Jericho splats outside. Twisting plancha clears the top & La Parka seems hurt as well. Back inside, Parka hits a twisting headbutt (I guess, hard to tell what the hell he was going for) as Jericho still bumped. Jericho gets a sunset flip in the corner for 2, tries a hurricanrana, but Parka powerbombs out. He goes up top, tries for his corkscrew senton, but Jericho moves, goes up top himself, hits the missile dropkick for 3!
Rey Mysterio vs Billy Kidman May 10, 1997 Rey picks a leg, then snapmares Kidman down with a side headlock. Kidman shoots Rey off, they trade counters, as Rey tries for a quebrada, but gets caught. He swings into a DDT, but missed the follow springboard leg drop. Kidman quickly goes to the apron & hits a slingshot head scissors sending Rey outside. Slingshot dive by Kidman on the floor as we quickly go back inside where Kidman gets hung up in the ropes. Rey nails his guillotine leg drop off the top for 2, but Kidman gets boots up in the corner & nails a flying clothesline off the second 1…2…NO! Kidman tries a reverse DDT, but Rey flips up, only to be planted with a driver by Kidman. Billy tries a frog splash off the ropes, but Rey moves & nails the West Coast Pop for the 3. They had so much stuff crammed into a 3 minute match, it was awesome.
Meng vs Roadblock May 10, 1997 Roadblock charges before the bell even sounds, so Meng literally starts paint brushing him before he collapses. He slaps on the Tongan Death Grip and that’s literally it! Meng steamrolled poor Roadblock on his way to a Death Match with Chris Benoit at Slamboree.
Wrath (w/James Vandenberg) vs David Moore May 17, 1997 Moore has man boobs, I felt the need to point that out. Wrath does some goofy “karate” inspired back elbows & corner kicks as he drops Moore with a back breaker & Vader Bomb elbow drop off the second. He hits the Rock Bottom variation he calls The Death Penalty for the quick win. He’s still Adam Bomb to me at this point, Adam Bomb, with a goofy gimmick. I realize how ironic that sounds, since his previous gimmick was Adam fucking Bomb.
Yuji Yasuraoka (w/Sonny Onoo) vs Julio Sanchez May 17, 1997 We get this match as a way to introduce us to Yuji, since he was facing Rey Mysterio at Slamboree. I have no idea why Sonny is with him as he didn’t manage Yuji at the PPV. Anyways, thrust chops to Sanchez as he’s slowly picking apart his opponent with kicks, hip tosses & more kicks. Sanchez gets off like one kick before being punted to the mat. Yuji finally hits a move that’s not a kick or punch and suplexes Julio onto the ropes to the floor & hits a wild cross body off the top. Step up wheel kick in the corner back inside & missile dropkick to the neck off the second as Yuji signals for the end, which is just a standard DDT, for the 3. Pretty underwhelming debut as post match, Yuji hit another DDT, then a rad looking Butterfly DDT, which should’ve been his fucking finisher to begin with. Rey Mysterio runs down to make the save & they have a standoff in the ring before Yuji & Sonny realize they’re supposed to high tail it.
Meng vs Pat Tanaka May 17, 1997 Hot off his destruction of job favorite Roadblock, let us see if Meng can keep his momentum going. Tanaka starts off hot with karate kicks aplenty as he’s lighting Meng up, but they ultimately have zero effect as Meng just walks through them. Tanaka throws everything, but eats a headbutt & falls like a mannequin. Tanaka up & tries one of his own & takes a bump. Brutal superkick starches Tanaka as he locks on the Tongan Death Grip for the easy submission win. This was a pairing I wish would’ve happened earlier in their careers because at this point & time, Meng was a monster and Tanaka, wasn’t.
The Giant vs Power Company May 17, 1997 Giant & Lex beat these two a month ago, but this week, Giant doesn’t need Luger. Still have zero clue how to tell these dudes apart. They have matching gear, matching mullets, matching HGH bodies. Giant launches one into the other as they valiantly try to suplex the big man, but Giant puts on the brakes & suplexes them both. Superkick floors one Company member, while the other gets Chokeslammed for the 3.
Buff Bagwell (w/Fake Sting) vs Lenny Lane May 24, 1997 I can’t describe how funny it is seeing NWO Sting accompany Buff to the ring, it’s like a clown at a children’s party. It’s all poses for Buff early, until Lane hits 10 corner slams to the head in the buckle as Buff is furious and gets a cheap shot. Lane floats over in the corner, hits an arm drag & dropkick, but Bagwell powerbombs out of a leap frog attempt. Buff sends Lane outside where Sting bodyslams him & tosses him back inside, where Buff shits the bed & Lane takes control. Lenny dives off the top, but Buff catches him with a powerslam in mid air. Lane fights back with clotheslines & charges in the corner, but eats a back elbow. Bagwell hits a top rope Blockbuster as he pretty much teabags Lane for the easy win.
Lord Steven Regal vs Sgt. Craig Pittman May 24, 1997 Tony points out the crowd was behind Regal at Slamboree, but Dusty points out it’s just because the crowd hated his opponent even more than him. His opponent was Ultimo Dragon, so I highly doubt that. Anyways, Pittman does pushups to taunt Regal, then works a wrist lock as Regal scrambles to the ropes. He takes Pittman down & just boots him in the head before Pittman fights back with an arm lock & goes back to the wrist. Regal with a Judo throw for 2 as he fires off an uppercut & brawls with the Pitbull in the corner, who misses a splash. Pittman tries a sunset flip, gets it, but Regal rolls through & stacks up Pittman for the 3 count. Regal simply outsmarted Pittman, who is visibly frustrated as Regal didn’t cheat, he simply was the smarter man. This was Craig Pittman’s last match in WCW.
Pat Tanaka vs Chris Jericho May 24, 1997 This one actually should be a dandy as Jericho gets an early arm drag, then it turns into a kickboxing match. Tanaka hits a leg sweep & struts away as a little Bad Company comes out. Jericho answers with a leg sweep of his own, then drops Tanaka with a suplex. Spinning heel kick by Jericho sends Tanaka to the apron & allows Jericho to hit his springboard dropkick sending Pat outside. He tries a slingshot plancha, but Tanaka punts him in the ribs in mid air! To the railing he goes as Tanaka sends him inside, but Jericho fires out with a clothesline & Tanaka does his 360. Lionsault by Jericho, who goes up top & hits the missile dropkick for the 3 count. Fun while it lasted, but wish it went longer.
Meng (w/Jimmy Hart) vs T. Rantula May 24, 1997 Last month, Meng & Barb nearly killed Mr. T, also a few weeks ago, Meng murdered Roadblock, T. Rantula’s buddy, so he attacks on his pals behalf to start. He hits some shoulders, but Meng gets a drop toe hold & slams his head into the mat repeatedly. Hard chops & chokes by Meng, who lowers his head, as T. Rantula tries to kick Meng, who no sells & superkicks him in the chops. Tongan Death Grip applied and Mr. Rantula passes out. Meng: Murderer of Hairy Job Guys. Hey, at least he didn’t drop the guy on his neck this week.
Meng vs Joe Gomez May 31, 1997 Roadblock, Pat Tanaka, T. Rantula & now we get The Desperado as Meng’s latest victim. They lock up & clean break as Meng snarls at Gomez before catching him in mid air, dropping him with a slam. Chops & headbutts send Gomez to the corner, as he tries fighting back, but it makes Meng angry, who lights him up with punches in bunches. Gomez hits a dropkick & Meng super no sells it, slapping on the Tongan Death Grip for the quick win. Post match, Renegade, who I didn’t realize had broken up with Gomez, hits the ring & starts putting boots to the already unconscious Gomez, so Meng decides, fuck it, slaps the Death Grip on Renegade for good measure.
Hugh Morrus vs Johnny Swinger May 31, 1997 Clean break by Swinger, who does jumping jacks like he’s Rick Martel or something. He tries a hip toss, but gets a standing hurricanrana for 2. He tries a second one, but Morrus powerbombs out of it, quickly goes up top, No Laughing Matter & the 3 count. The fastest Hugh Morrus match you’ll ever see.
Psychosis (w/Sonny Onoo) vs Jim Powers (w/Teddy Long) May 31, 1997 Headlock by Powers, who hits a shoulder block & celebrates like crazy as Psychosis retreats. They repeat the spot, with Psychosis trying to stop Powers with a monkey flip, but Powers stomps on his head & gets a hip toss and bodyslam. Psychosis gets an eye poke to get the advantage, then sends Powers from pillar to post, only for Powers to literally launch Psychosis clear out of the ring. For some reason the ref turns to Teddy Long, allowing Sonny to kick Powers in the back & Psychosis posts him. He tosses him back inside, bodyslams him down & connects with the guillotine legdrop for the 3 count. Teddy Long literally was just standing there, but the ref had to turn to him to allow the finish. Pretty lame.
The Steiner Brothers vs La Parka & Ciclope May 31, 1997 Parka attacks Rick at the bell & tries to charge him in the corner, but Rick clocks him with a Steiner-line & his back drop powerslam deal for 2. Parka gets a boot up in the corner & wheel kick, so Scott just jumps in and murders Parka to the floor with a lariat. Ciclope in and offers a handshake, but Scott just suckers him in with a cheap shot. Ciclope gets a boot to the gut & jawbreaker as he quickly hits a top rope missile dropkick, but lowers his head & Scott nails a underhook suplex for 3, just like that. La Parka barely made an attempt to break it up.
Wrath (w/James Vandenberg) vs Joey Maggs May 31, 1997 Silly looking karate offense by Wrath that Maggs tries fighting out of, but eats a back suplex. Wrath chucks Maggs outside & Mortis hoists Maggs up into a fireman’s carry, walks up the ring steps & throws Maggs off face first onto the apron. He tosses Maggs back inside long enough for Wrath to hit a jump kick & Death Penalty for the fast win. Adam Bomb wasn’t messing around tonight.

WCW Saturday Night (June 1997)
Billy Kidman vs Hector Garza June 7, 1997 Forearms & chops traded as Garza tries a cartwheel splash in the corner, but goes flying outside. Kidman quickly tosses him back in, so he can hit an arm drag for a 2 count, then slaps on an arm bar. Kidman hits a head scissors as he works the arm for a while before Garza gets a monkey flip in the corner for 2. Garza leap frogs a few times, but Kidman catches him with a dropkick & nails his corner clothesline for 2. They trade hip toss attempts as Garza powerbombs Kidman, who tried another head scissors, then hits a standing moonsault for the 3 count. Very underwhelming match.
Ultimo Dragon vs Damien June 7, 1997 Damien mocks a Kung Fu style stance as they do a weird little start that ends in Dragon arm dragging Damien to the floor. Back inside, spinning drop toe hold as Dragon does his corner head stand & dropkicks Damien down, who pops up and hits a clothesline. Monkey flip into an arm drag as Damien bails outside to jaw jack with fans, but gets a shoulder to the midsection back inside & nails a leaping leg kick for 2. Damien does a handspring splash and he almost slides on his head to get it, which was actually pretty cool looking for a 2 count. Psychosis is shown at the entrance watching on as he’ll face Dragon at the PPV (the PPV I was at) as Damien applies a rest hold. Dragon lights up Damien with kicks & gets a hurricanrana pin for 2 as Damien misses a corner splash. Dragon goes up & hits the spinning rana off the top & slaps on the Dragon Sleeper while watching Psychosis for the win. Sloppy in spots, but overall fun match.
Buff Bagwell vs Rick Fuller June 7, 1997 Buff does one move & poses and it looks weird because of how big of a guy Fuller is. Finally the big man gets a back drop & clothesline and poses at Bagwell, who slaps him in the face. Fuller chops the holy hell out of Buff, who fires back with a dropkick & does the Buff Shuffle (you know what I’m talking about), then gets a boot in the corner before Fuller just drops him over the top in a weird ass way. Back inside, Buff puts the boots to Fuller, gets reversed, but nails a back elbow & the Buff Blockbuster for 3. This was awful.
Harlem Heat (w/Sherri) vs Power Company June 7, 1997 1 & 2 hanging tough here as Harlem Heat beat the shit out of them to start, but 1 hits a cross body on Booker for a 2 count. Stevie attacks him from behind as they regain control with a back elbow as Stevie jumps on the apron and boots Power Company 2 off the steps to the floor. This match is pretty much so Booker & Stevie can take turns talking to the Steiners in the camera about their upcoming match. They literally hit 2 moves a piece before turning to the camera. Booker misses a knee, but 1 is so beat down he can’t make a tag to 2. They hit The Big Apple on 1 and get the 3 count as Power Company 2 never actually got into the match legally. Post match, the beat down continues until Rick & Scott make the save as Harlem Heat retreat. Poor Power Company just slumps to the back as this has nothing to do with them.
Diamond Dallas Page (w/Kimberly) vs Konnan June 7, 1997 DDP gets a takedown & isn’t messing around as he palm strikes Konnan in the corner repeatedly with Konnan ducking for cover. He finally targets Dallas’ ribs & takes control, but Dallas hits a discus lariat & signals for the Diamond Cutter, but Hugh Morrus sprints out the back to attack Konnan (and seemingly give him the DQ win) as DDP is pissed, so he hits a Cutter on Morrus. Konnan goes to attack after the match, but DDP chases him away & makes the save for the guy he just dropped. The referee raises Page’s hand, which is baffling because what the hell did he do to warrant the win?
Chris Jericho vs Johnny Swinger June 14, 1997 Jericho kips out of an arm bar & gets one of his own, planting Swinger with a suplex. Swinger gets a super sloppy Thesz Press, then an enzugiri and just dances before dropping a fist out of the corner. Lot more dancing by Swinger, who goes up top & gets dropkicked in mid air! Slugfest ensues as Jericho hits a corner splash & ties Swinger up in the Tree of Joey Lawrence (WHOA!), dropkicking him in the face. Jericho hits a powerbomb & Lionsault, then goes to the top for his missile dropkick finish for the 3.
La Parka vs Denny Brown June 14, 1997 Brown is a job guy you’d see in the late 80s as he’s not that muscular I’ll say. La Parka hits a hip toss & a few arm drags, slapping on a wrist lock for 2 (that’s right, he tried pinning him off a wrist lock). Brown gets sent to the corner, but Parka flips up & lands on the apron, knocking Brown down. He goes up top & hits a somersault senton for the 3 count. Terrible match as here comes Super Calo to go after Parka, who bails quickly. Apparently these two guys were feuding? Sure, why not, better than Denny Brown.
Konnan vs Joe Gomez June 14, 1997 Chops to the corner as Konnan chokes away & talks shit to Gomez, who fights back with a terrible dropkick, then a slightly better one. Arm drag gets a 2 count as Desperado hits a shoulder block & just stands there waiting for Konnan to dropkick his leg out. Somersault clothesline as Konnan dropkicks him in the face & locks on a modified version of the Tequila Sunrise for the win. Thankfully that went 1 minute, which was 45 seconds too long. Post match, Hugh Morrus hits the ring and connects (about 5% worth) of the No Laughing Matter, then hits another (this one even less than the first).
Harlem Heat vs Power Company June 21, 1997 These two teams fought each other just two weeks ago, but the Steiners got involved, so we need a rematch? Stevie just crushes one of the Company with knees & a bodyslam early as we get a long shot of the crowd, so I have zero idea what happened in the ring. Stevie hits a pump kick & tags Booker, who misses a back elbow, allowing the other Company member to tag in and we get a slug fest that ends with Booker hitting a lariat. He misses his crescent kick as Booker barely hits a scissors kick as Stevie back in for 2 seconds before tagging back in Book & they hit an assisted Harlem Side Kick for the easy win.
Michael Wallstreet vs Joey Maggs June 21, 1997 Forearms by Wallstreet as Maggs hits a cross body for 2. He charges in the corner, but Wallstreet gets a back elbow & reprimanded by Nick Patrick for zero reason. He chokes Maggs with his feet on the ropes & gets scolded for a reason this time a Maggs school boys Wallstreet for 2. He chucks Maggs outside & beats him down briefly as he tosses him inside, cracking Maggs with a lariat. After a long chin lock, Wallstreet hits the Stock Market Crash for the 3 count. Maggs got absolutely squashed here and it’s weird seeing Wallstreet wearing a WCW shirt that’s crossed out, but he’s not in the NWO anymore, which begs the question, why are they even booking him then?
La Parka & Silver King vs Juventud Guerrera & Super Calo June 21, 1997 Short arm clothesline murders poor Calo in seconds as Parka does a slingshot double stomp to the outside! Calo just rolls back into the ring & quickly tags Juvi, who promptly gets beaten down in succession by King & Parka for 2. Assisted pop up powerbomb by the heels as Mark Curtis has let the heels be in the ring this entire fucking match and kept Super Calo on the apron which is ridiculous. They send Calo off the apron crashing outside as Parka goes up top & misses a spinning kick, hitting his partner. Calo with the hot tag as he hits tilt a whirl back breakers & a slingshot senton on both heels, who get knocked to the floor. Juvi goes up & hits a cross body on King, while Calo hits a Tope Suicida on Parka at the same time! Roll up by Calo gets 2 as King punts him in the chest. Mark Curtis randomly holds back Juvi in the ring as Calo nails his top rope head scissors finish, which allows King to hit a somersault leg drop on Calo to give Parka the 3 count. Mark Curtis looked beyond foolish in this match.
Chris Jericho vs Syxx June 21, 1997 Headlock, reverse hammerlock, snapmare is the combo of moves we start with as they lock up & Jericho shoves Syxx down, then hits a shoulder. He lowers his head for a back drop, & I think Syxx tries for a sunset flip, but it’s kinda botched & turned into a Canadian Destroyer for a 2 count. Snap legdrop by Kid, who chops Jericho in the corner, hitting his spin kick as Jericho fights out of a headlock & nails a quebrada for 2. Jericho misses a corner attack & falls right back into the Buzzkiller to give Syxx the submission win. Lot sloppier than you’d expect and maybe that’s because it was so rushed. Giving these 2 barely 4 minutes is ridiculous.
Lord Steven Regal vs Bobby Eaton – WCW Television Title June 28, 1997 Rematch from a few months ago as Regal fires off palm strikes & uppercuts, but Eaton drops Regal with 3 right hands in a row as Regal is bumping all over, selling like a champ. They trade arm bars, but Regal pulls the hair to get the takedown as he drags Eaton up & drops him with an uppercut. Brutal palm strike in the corner, snap mare & knee drop as we see Jumping Joey Maggs at the entrance way watching on. Dusty says it’s a good thing for Maggs to improve on since he’s lost more matches than he won. Regal gets backdropped & Eaton hits a swinging neckbreaker as Regal goes to the floor. Eaton hits a boot, but Regal then slams his ankle into the post & pounces back inside for the Regal Stretch for the win. Eaton tried to fight out, but that move cost him.
Konnan vs Tim Cheeks June 28, 1997 K-Dogg works the arm with some weird ass rolls to start as Cheeks escapes & does some flips of his own, then finally connects with a dropkick, only for Konan to destroy him with a back suplex. This match is sloppy as all hell early as Konnan hits a snap dropkick & hits rolling lariat as it’s probably hard to move around wearing 37 items of clothing. He’s like Joey when he wore all Chandler’s clothes. He drops Cheeks on his head with a fisherman’s buster, then slaps on the Tequila Sunrise for the quick win. Really bad stuff that they cut off the replay of the finish to go to Mean Gene backstage.
The Renegade vs Meng June 28, 1997 Jimmy Hart’s former protégé takes on his monster, who beats down Renegade to start, but the former TV champ gets a boot in the corner and that was it as Meng chokes him down. Renegade tries a sunset flip, but Meng chops & kicks Renegade right in the head. We have a slugfest before Renegade shoots Meng to the corner, hits his springboard handspring elbow, but Meng no sells & slaps on the Tongan Death Grip for the submission victory. Jimmy Hart has to convince Meng to release the hold, which he reluctantly does.
Wrath & Mortis vs The Armstrong Brothers June 28, 1997 Mortis & Steve start, with the former Kanyon getting shoulders & kicks in the corner. Steve floats over & nails a few dropkicks, working a headlock. Wrath clocks him in the back as Mortis hits a Northern Lights for 2. Tag to Scott, who hits an axe off the second, but Mortis nails a wheel kick & tags the big man. They launch Scott to the corner & Wrath hits a tilt a whirl back breaker, tags Mortis & they hit an assisted Hot Shot. Karate Kick by Mortis, into the Death Penalty by Wrath gets the easy win.

WCW Saturday Night (July 1997)
Glacier & Ernest Miller vs Mark Starr & Jerry Flynn July 5, 1997 Flynn & Miller start, but The Cat quickly tags out after literally 1 move, so Glacier hits a sunset flip inside for 2. He kicks Starr to the floor, but Starr gets revenge, tripping Glacier, allowing Flynn to drop him. They hit a double flapjack on Glacier, who catches a Starr kick & nails a back suplex as he crawls to Miller for the hot tag. He hits 1 bodyslam on Starr, poses & covers Starr for 1. Flynn gets knocked to the floor by Glacier as he drops Starr with an atomic drop as Miller nails a springboard to rope kick for the 3 count. Aside from that last kick, this match fucking blew. That’s B-L-E-W and not B-L-U-E because of Glacier.
Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs Mike Enos July 5, 1997 Day late, but what a way to celebrate the 4th of July than watching Hacksaw take on a Beverly? Enos backs Duggan into the corner & Duggan just turns his back to HOOOO, so Enos attacks him. Clothesline out of the corner & another that turns Enos inside out and bailing outside. Back inside, Enos gets dropped with an atomic drop, but he rakes the eyes & boots Duggan in the face as he has trouble pulling his pants up (and chaps) which allows Duggan to hit his 3 point stance clothesline for the win. Awful stuff, just awful.
Johnny Swinger vs Jerry Lynn July 5, 1997 So either Mr. JL is officially no more, or Jerry Lynn simply forgot his mask & he’s just going by his real name. It’s WCW, so I truly wonder. Swinger lowers his head early and Lynn gets a sunset flip for 2 as Swinger punches free. He tries a leaping legdrop out of the corner & misses horribly, so Lynn nails an atomic drop & head scissors, but fails with a follow dropkick. Swinger to the top, but Lynn crotches him & nails a draping DDT for the 1…2…3!! LYNN WINS IT!! That draping DDT would make young Randy Orton proud!
The Steiner Brothers vs La Parka & Damien July 5, 1997 Damien is the size of Scott’s right arm, it’s sad. He does get in some early kicks in the corner & tries a monkey flip, but Scott swats him away like a fly. He stacks Damien up in the Tree of Woe & chokes him before hitting a beautiful belly to belly suplex. Tag to Rick & the crowd starts barking as Parka gets in & leveled with a Steiner-line. The Luchas start double teaming Rick & hit double headbutts off the top! Parka beats down at Rick and taunts Scott, but Rick murders poor Parka with a German Suplex that drops him on his neck. Tag to Scott, who nails a double arm underhook suplex on Damien for 2 as Villano IV runs out and shoves La Parka under the ring. He jumps in and misses a moonsault, so Scott & Rick kill him with a Top Rope DDT for the 3 count. Again, the referee doesn’t realize Villano IV and La Parka aren’t the same person. WHAT?!?!?
Lord Steven Regal vs Psychosis (w/Sonny Onoo) July 5, 1997 They trade counters of the arm bar as Psychosis dropkicks Regal outside & Onoo lights him up with kicks. He tells the ref & Sonny gets the boot, despite trying to pay off the official. Back inside, Regal eats a boot in the corner & Psychosis puts him in the corner & nails a second rope hurricanrana for 2. Springboard forearm by Psychosis, who goes up top & gets cut off by Regal, who hits a massive avalanche butterfly superplex! Regal goes to the floor to regroup, but Psychosis nails a wild dive & goes back inside. He tries a head scissors, but Regal just slams him down & slaps on the Regal Stretch for the win. They had 3 minute and tried to cram 10 minutes worth of stuff into it. Selling moves was not an option here.
Ultimo Dragon vs Lenny Lane July 5, 1997 Shoulder tackle & snap powerslam gets Lane a hot start as he drives his head into the midsection, but lowers his head & Dragon lights him up with kicks. Just then Sonny Onoo walks out with a Polaroid camera as Lane slaps on a sleeper back in the ring. Dragon escapes, but Lane cracks him with a lariat for a 2 count. Lane with a sleeper again, but Dragon escapes into one of his own. He lets go & nails a quebrada, then applies the proper Dragon Sleeper for the victory. Lane took 90% of that match & that’s surprising. Onoo did nothing at ringside.
Public Enemy vs Villanos IV & V July 12, 1997 Villanos attack at the bell with a Hot Shot & leg drop on Rocco, then double clothesline Johnny down. PE sends the luchadors colliding into each other as Johnny hits a swinging neckbreaker on one & sends the other outside. Rocco tosses in a table quickly as the crowd is on fire for this. I love how the Villano on the floor was going to get in the ring, but realized he wasn’t supposed to, so he just fell back to the floor. Rocco hits a somersault senton putting a Villano THROUGH A TABLE and covers him AND THE REF COUNTS 3. Why they didn’t get DQ’d is beyond me.
Lord Steven Regal vs Scotty Riggs – WCW Television Title July 12, 1997 Riggs has so much oil on (both his chest & hair) as he works an arm bar that Regal quickly counters. After a few uppercuts, Riggs hits a dropkick, but Regal palm strikes him, only for Riggs to get a wrist lock and Regal dives for a rope break. We get a tradeoff between uppercuts & right hands as Regal gets back dropped & Riggs goes up top, but misses wildly. Regal hits a weird power suplex that plants Riggs down & applies the Regal Stretch, that’s all she wrote.
Ultimo Dragon vs Hector Guerrero July 12, 1997 They trade hip tosses before Hector gets a head scissors, only for Dragon to float over a back drop, lighting him up with kicks. Hector escapes a head scissors & applies a bow and arrow, works the arm, but Dragon catches him with a small package for 2. Hector has a hard time keeping Dragon grounded, but he does hit a splash off the second, as Dragon answers with a springboard handspring in the corner. Hector catches Dragon with an uppercut & stacks him up with a powerbomb, but instead of the pin he does a weird twisting standing splash for 2. Dragon hits some chops and they collide as Hector applies an abdominal stretch for 4 seconds before letting it go, missing a corner splash allowing Dragon to hit his spinning corner hurricanrana & slaps on the Dragon Sleeper for the win.
Barbarian vs Jerry Lynn July 12, 1997 Let’s see if Lynn can keep the win streak going, as he gets pressed high in the air & powerslammed down by Barb, who lights up Lynn in the corner with punches, then plants him with a violent back breaker for 2. Headbutt & gut buster follow, but Lynn fights back with some kicks in the corner & a leaping kick to the face as he tries using his speed, but does a cross body, gets caught & slammed. Big vertical suplex & a Boot of Doom by Barb for the easy win.
Eddie Guerrero vs Joey Maggs July 12, 1997 Snapmare & face rake by Eddie as Joey fires back with a hip toss for 2, but Eddie says he grabbed the hair and I don’t know about you, but I believe him! Eddie scolds Maggs, only to dropkick his knee out, then slingshots in from the apron onto the knee. Eddie toys with Maggs, who hits an enzugiri and a big body slam. Maggs lowers his head, Eddie floats over & clips the leg, then hits a Fisherman Suplex Buster as he goes up top & hits the Frog Splash for the win. I dug this match.
Glacier & Ernest Miller vs Scott & Steve Armstrong July 12, 1997 Glacier & Miller hit awkward kicks to pose early as Scott gets double teamed with kicks aplenty as Cat just poses before getting sent to the Armstrong corner. Scott & Steve choke away with Glacier taking the ref & complaining as Miller ducks a double clothesline & hits a leap kick, then a Feliner kick off the top, goes for the cover & here comes Wrath & Mortis to cause the DQ. We have a 2 camera shot, despite all 4 men being in the ring. Babyfaces hold off the heels as the ref declares them winners by disqualification as the Armstrongs literally disappeared.
Jeff Jarrett vs Joe Gomez – United States Title July 12, 1997 I don’t actually know if this was for the title, but it’s funnier this way to think Joe Gomez was number 1 contender for the US Title. Knees to the midsection by Jarrett, but the Desperado gets a back elbow & bodyslam as he leaps off the second for a knee drop & lands super awkwardly. Jarrett quickly slaps on the Figure Four & Gomez taps. This went 45 seconds easily.
Alex Wright vs Chris Jericho – Cruiserweight Title July 12, 1997 Baseball slide dropkick wipes Jericho out before the bell as Wright pounces & uppercuts Jericho down before he gets his jacket off. Northern Lights get a 2 count as Wright is pouring on the offense, stomping Jericho. Y2J ducks a clothesline & hits a shoulder tackle before nailing a lariat & senton. Vertical suplex, but Wright answers with a gut wrench suplex for 2. To the floor goes Jericho as Wright does his dance, leaps off the apron & crashes into the railing. Back inside Jericho tries a Quebrada, but doesn’t rotate enough & just falls back first onto Wright, who bumps awkwardly. Jericho could’ve broke his neck there & thankfully didn’t. Wright gets a back suplex, goes to the top with Jericho & hits a superplex! Wright misses a corner splash & just crumbles as Jericho puts on the Liontamer & wins it. That was super clunky at the end.
Meng (w/Jimmy Hart) vs Bobby Eaton July 19, 1997 Eaton gets battered into the corner & sent back first into the post while on the apron. He gets in a few right hands on Meng, who fires back with brutal chops, one caught him right in the face as Joey Maggs looks on at the entrance area, once again scouting Beautiful Bobby matches. Meng keeps chopping Eaton down before crushing him with a shoulder breaker. Eaton fights back with a swinging neck breaker & Maggs nods in approval as Jimmy Hart stops Eaton from hitting the Alabama Jam. While he’s stuck in the ropes, Meng slaps on the Tongan Death Grip and slams Eaton to the mat, holding it on for the submission. Maggs grabs his own neck in fear as we’ll see how Maggs would fare against Meng in a month’s time.
Syxx vs Lenny Lane July 19, 1997 Syxx puts the boots to Lenny, but Lane fights back with a bulldog, only to be sent to the floor. They tease a count out, but Lane hits a wild somersault twisting senton & they make it back in. Lane misses a clothesline & Kid takes his head off with a spinning kick, sinks in the Buzzkiller and that’s that. Wish we got more high flying, but the Lane spot was cool.
Prince Iaukea vs The Cheetah Kid July 19, 1997 At one point in these reviews, I actually thought Kid was Iaukea, so here’s WCW out to prove me wrong. Cheetah Kid gets some kitty cat back rakes to start, but Prince fires back with chops, tries a leap frog & Kid head butts him right in the dick. Prince works through it & hip tosses and dropkicks Cheetah to the floor. High cross off the top to the floor as it’s scary on account of Prince is in his bare feet. Cheetah slams Prince down in the ring & hits a top rope splash for 2, despite taking forever & clawing at the crowd beforehand. Kid floats over an Irish whip to the corner into a school boy for 2, but Cheetah tries it himself & eats a snap suplex and high cross off the top from Prince for the 3 count. The offense of Cheetah Kid was comically bad, but it went along with his gimmick, so I can’t bag on it too much.
Juventud Guerrera, Super Calo & Hector Garza vs Villano IV, Villano V & Silver King July 19, 1997 Calo & Villano IV start off as Calo misses a wheel kick & gets booted into the corner. Calo flips out of the corner & Villano hits a clothesline so hard, Calo falls on his neck. We get a weird jump cut in the match to Garza dropkicking a Villano and Calo taking out the other as Garza nails a dive on Villano V & Calo wipes out IV, but the camera misses it. King pops up Juvi face first into the corner, but goes up, gets cut off and Juvi nails a reverse Poison Rana out of the corner for the 3 count! Zero clue how much we missed before the cut as post match, La Parka sprints to the ring & lays out all 3 babyfaces with a chair! The Chairman strikes again!
Four Corner Lucha Tag Juventud Guerrera & Super Calo vs La Parka & Silver King vs Hector Garza & Lizmark Jr. vs Villano IV & V July 26, 1997 King & Calo start as Calo gets a head scissors, but King gets an arm drag. He stumbles to the ropes & they land outside as Calo hits a crazy ass diving head scissors that lands right on his head in the process. La Parka & Lizmark have a stare down in the center of the ring as Lizmark flips around & backdrops Parka, then monkey flips him down. Tilt a whirl back breaker as Lizmark gets clipped from behind by a Villano, which makes him the legal man I guess by lucha rules. Hector Garza in now, hits a monkey flip & springboard dropkick as Villano tries to avoid a Garza dive, but he puts on the brakes & Hector gets him anyway. Juvi & the other Villano go at it as Juvi gets the first nearfall of the match & some chops. Pop up hurricanrana as Juvi gets a running start TOPE SUICIDA! La Parka & Silver King attack Lizmark, who misses a moonsault, but La Parka runs into his partner! Lizmark goes up top, but moonsaults onto Silver King outside! Calo comes flying off the top, but dropkicked in mid air by La Parka, who goes up top, only to eat a Calo boot. Super Calo hits his head scissors out of the corner 1…2…3!! I have no idea where everyone else went as they were selling a long time, but Juvi & Calo get the win.
Greg Valentine vs Tim Cheeks July 26, 1997 Hammer always looks 60 years old & uninterested being there. He picks a leg early as Cheeks kicks away, but eats a knee & hip toss. Hammer works an arm because if you think Greg Valentine is hitting the ropes in this, you’re fucking out of your mind. Cheeks gets a few chops, but Hammer chops him down and slaps on a rest hold. Cheeks gets a knee & headlock, but Hammer back suplexes him right on top of his head. He tosses Cheeks to the floor and slingshots him back inside before winding up the arm & dropping an elbow on the top of the head for the 3 count. Such a weak ass finisher, but Hammer can’t use the Figure Four in WCW I guess? Flair & Jarrett were using it at this point.
Mortis (w/James Vandenberg) vs Psychosis July 26, 1997 Battle of the masked men as Psychosis scales the ropes & moonsaults Mortis for a quick 2 count as he scurries outside, but Psychosis nails a cross body off the top! Just like that though, Mortis takes over in the ring with hard rights & pump handle fall away slam sending Psychosis outside to get booted by Vandenberg. Mortis stands on the second rope to suplex Psychosis back inside from the apron for 2, but Psychosis gets a tilt a whirl sleeper, that Mortis counters into a back breaker. Spinning heel kick by Psychosis, who hits a step up enzugiri & a top rope jump kick for 2. He goes to the top for his guillotine legdrop, but misses by a mile. Mortis hits a Samoan Drop off the second rope for the 3 count as post match; La Parka lays out Mortis with a chair! Wrath comes down & flattens Parka with The Death Penalty as he helps Mortis out.
Alex Wright vs Doc Dean July 26, 1997 Boots & uppercuts as Das Wunderkind works an arm for a full minute before Dean head scissors out of it. Wright kips up & uppercuts Dean down before hitting a front slam & a float over splash from the apron for 2. Dean floats over & gets a school boy for 2 as Wright boots him down. 4 minutes into this match, Wright finally starts dancing as he chops Dean, but runs into a boot. Nice dropkick by Doc, who hits a Fisherman’s Buster for 2. Big back body drop as Wright begs off, but Hot Shots Dean, then the German Suplex with a bridge for the 3 count.
Lord Steven Regal vs Chad Fortune July 26, 1997 Regal quickly escapes a wrist lock, tries a Judo throw, but Fortune blocks it & nails a dropkick. Regal gets a chop to the throat, then fires off stiff uppercuts before punting Fortune in the back. 3 straight uppercuts, but Fortune doesn’t go down, so Regal gets a drop toe hold & face lock. Fortune gets a back drop out of the corner & tries a boot, but Regal catches it & drops his weight down on it, so Fortune collapses. Regal quickly applies the Regal Stretch & wins it. I tell you what, Fortune actually hung tough in the wrestling department in this one, which might surprise some.
Squire David Taylor vs Bobby Eaton July 26, 1997 Blue Bloods collide here as Eaton is out for revenge for…one year earlier. Hard rights by Eaton, but Taylor gets in uppercuts to take control. Joey Maggs is at the entrance way to watch a Bobby Eaton match, much like he did the month prior. I have zero idea why as this lead to nothing. Taylor keeps dropping Eaton with uppercuts, then works an arm bar for literally minutes before Eaton gets a leg trip, so Taylor just leaps onto him for 2. Slugfest ensues & Eaton gets a cross body for 2, but pops up and Taylor boots him, dropping him with a Butterfly Suplex into a bridge for the 3 count. Weird finish, also we never saw Joey Maggs again during this match.
Faces of Fear vs Southern Posse July 26, 1997 Still have zero clue who the Posse are, we never have gotten a proper intro for them as they’ve always been “currently in the ring”. They have confederate flags on their trunks and they’re hairy, that’s all I got. Meng demolishes one of them to start as he valiantly tries to double clothesline Meng & Barb, but bounce off them like a ball. The other Posse member foolishly does the same thing, so Meng hits an atomic drop & Barb nails the Boot of Doom for the 3 count. Meng & Barb murdering fools will never get old.

Hairy guys wearing confederate flags? Sounds like a southern posse to me!

WCW Saturday Night (August 1997)
Syxx (w/Kevin Nash & Scott Hall) vs Bobby Walker August 2, 1997 Nice arm drag by Walker, who backs Syxx up in the corner with a hammerlock, but Syxx back elbows out. Fast paced hitting of the ropes by both as Walker hits another arm drag & side headlock takeover. Syxx back suplexes out of it & takes Walker’s head off with the wheel kick for 2. Corner kicks lead to the Bronco Buster, which fires Walker up with a back elbow & clothesline. Flying forearm connects as Syxx kicks out at 2. Walker charges & misses a splash as he walks right into the Buzzkiller for the finish. Syxx gave Walker a lot here and there was no interference either, so that was refreshing as well.
The Giant vs Roadblock August 2, 1997 I could watch this pairing forever as Giant drops Roadblock immediately with a shoulder tackle & launches him in the corner. HUGE bodyslam on the 400 pounder as Giant already signals for the end as Block stumbles into a Choke Slam for the 3 count. Not the battle I was hoping for, but seeing Giant destroy a dude, even Roadblock, is always cool. This was more about Randy Savage & Elizabeth in the crowd cutting a promo on Giant post match about their match at the PPV.
Meng vs Joey Maggs August 2, 1997 Let’s see if Joey Maggs learned anything from Bobby Eaton after Bobby got destroyed by Meng a month ago, shall we? Bell sounds, Meng lights up Maggs with so many punches, the ref puts a standing 10 count on him and MENG WINS BY TKO!! He’s already out like a light, so Meng still slaps on the Death Grip for good measure. So to answer my question, no, Maggs didn’t learn anything from Eaton. I guess this was the pay off?
The Outsiders (w/Syxx) vs “Public Enemy” August 2, 1997 So no one realizes The Steiner Brothers are dressed up as Johnny & Rocco, since they have a table blocking The Outsiders view. They set the table up & finally Nash realizes the jig is up first. Steiners get a couple shots in, sending Hall, Nash & Syxx outside as they grab the tag titles & pose as the Wolfpack regroup, hit the ring & it’s a brawl as Syxx attacks. This match never started, but it’s something I never knew even happened. Nash slams Scott into the table, but the Steiners fight back, sending the NWO packing.
Harlem Heat vs High Voltage August 9, 1997 Booker tries a wheel kick early, but Rage ducks & hits a belly to belly. Booker answers with a flying forearm for 2 before tagging Stevie, who misses an elbow. Tag to Kaos, who nails a double axe off the top, but Stevie clocks him with a big boot to the face. Tag to Book as they nail a double shoulder. Assisted Hot Shot by High Voltage as they hit a double back drop, but Booker does the Spinaroonie, wipes them both out & makes the hot tag to Stevie, who’s a house of fire. He chucks Kaos outside & hits a spinebuster on Rage, then The Big Apple connects for the 3 count.
Syxx vs Billy Kidman August 9, 1997 Kid really wrenches at the headlock before Kidman shoots him off the ropes, head scissors & Bulldog off the second for 2. To the top, Kidman with a high cross body for another 2 as Syxx reverses a whip & levels Kidman with a wheel kick. Bronco Buster connects as Syxx poses, then does the deal with a Falcon Arrow for 2. Kidman gets a boot up in the corner, goes up top & misses a somersault senton, so Syxx slaps on the Buzzkiller for the win. Was hoping for more in this match, but post match, Ric Flair hits the ring after Syxx won’t let go of the submission. He puts the boots to Naitch, but Flair backdrops him & punches him right in the face as Syxx retreats.
Curt Hennig vs Bobby Eaton August 9, 1997 Hennig tosses Eaton down to the corner & snap mares him down, just strutting away as again, we see Joey Maggs at the entrance as THIS STORYLINE CONTINUES between Maggs & Eaton, so I guess Meng murdering Maggs wasn’t the payoff. I want to dive deeper into this as this has been going on for months & I don’t remember it leading anywhere*. Anyways, Hennig gets some high knees & chokes Eaton in the corner, but Beautiful Bobby whips Hennig to the corner & he bumps like only Hennig can. Abdominal Stretch applied briefly as Hennig escapes with a back elbow to the face & stomps on the knee. He hits the Hennig Plex for the 3 count as DDP comes barreling out from the back with security holding him back as Hennig retreats. I have no idea where Joey Maggs went. *Turns out Eaton & Maggs teamed a few times on Pro in October of 97, they lost once to the Villanos and won a match against two job guys, so yes, Bobby Eaton & Joey Maggs had a squash match and their record as a team, as far as I know, was 1-1. Well worth the multiple months of Maggs scouting Eaton matches.
DDP vs Vincent August 9, 1997 They trade arm bars, but Vincent scurries to a rope break. Page goes back to the arm bar, but Virgil pulls the hair down as Page pops up, charges, but again, Virg gets in the ropes. Page just slugs him in the face, hits his front face slam & Diamond Cuts him for the quick win. Seriously, Vincent brought nothing to the NWO, it was a huge waste. Post match, Curt Hennig hops the railing & attacks from behind, but Page fights back and sends Hennig packing.
Eddie Guerrero vs Jim Powers August 16, 1997 Eddie gets taken down & bails as he jaw jacks with the crowd. Jim Powers continues to get more & more massive (muscular wise) each time he pops up. Eddie wants a test of strength & realizes it was a horrible decision, but sells it like a champ. Powers stomps on the fingers & opts for a headlock takedown. Eddie takes him to the corner & fights back with uppercuts as he gets a corner clothesline. Powers reverses a whip & nails a belly to belly overhead for 2. Eddie gets a drop toehold & plants Powers with a brainbuster before putting him away with a Frog Splash for the win. This was a fun, quick, little match.
DDP vs Rick Fuller August 16, 1997 Fuller uses his power early to mock Page, so Page gets an arm drag & mocks Fuller. He sends the big man chest first into the corner & nails a back suplex before signaling for the end. Crowd pops, so Fuller quickly cuts Page off to boos. Legdrop that’d make Hogan angry connects for 2 as Page starts hitting jabs before hitting a front face slam. He shoots Fuller to the corner, he bounces out & Page nails a running Diamond Cutter for the 3 count.
Stevie Richards vs Lenny Lane August 16, 1997 Dancin’ Stevie is here as he misses an early clothesline & Lane clobbers him to the floor. The chase is on as Stevie begs for a time out as we get a weird jump cut to the crowd & go back to Stevie getting a slam on Lane. Big Stevie Cool hits a powerbomb for a 2 count as we leave the match to go to a replay of Raven attacking Stevie on Nitro, spitting in his face & having a staredown. Back to action, Lenny hits a huge splash in the corner, leaps off the top with a dropkick for 2. Running bulldog gets another 2 as Stevie gets the boot on the ropes. Lane misses a clothesline & Stevie hits the Stevie Kick for the 3 count. Poor Stevie never got a chance in WCW, he was brought in as Raven’s lackey & after their quick falling out, they did zero with him.
Syxx & Konnan vs Texas Hangmen August 16, 1997 Hangmen are Disorderly Conduct, so if you think the commentators couldn’t tell them apart when they didn’t have masks, imagine how tough it is now. NWO attacks at the bell & just beat the shit out of the Hangmen as Syxx hits a Bronco Buster, but poses too close to the ropes & gets clotheslined by a Hangman. They take turns beating Kid down, making quick tags, but Kid hits his wheel kick & takes one of their heads off, making a hot tag to K-Dog. Pop up driver is the first & only thing Konnan does as Syxx tags in & slaps on the Buzzkiller for the win. Easy paycheck of Konnan tonight.
Renegade vs Super Calo August 16, 1997 Calo gets an early crucifix for 2, but Renegade pops up and boots him in the ribs. Calo scales the ropes, backflips & falls on his butt, but still takes Renegade down to the floor. Tope Suicida as Calo tosses him back inside, goes up top & misses a missile dropkick badly. Renegade on the attack as he hits the pumphandle back breaker. Snap powerslam for 2, as Renegade hits his jumping splash for another 2. Sinks in the Camel Clutch, but Calo wiggles out & drops an elbow. Renegade does an awkward sunset flip, but Calo gets stuck in the ropes. He chucks Calo to the corner & tries his springboard handspring elbow, but misses & Calo sets him up in the corner & nails a head scissors for the 3 count! In Saturday Night terms, this was a big win for Super Calo!
Ric Flair & Curt Hennig vs Mortis & Wrath (w/James Vandenberg) August 16, 1997 Hennig & Wrath start with Hennig getting chucked to the corner, surprised. Shoulder block gets Wrath 2 as he tosses Hennig to the corner for some kicks to the ribs as he charges & eats a double boot. Hennig stumbles out of the corner & eats a lariat, as Mortis tags in for a jumping elbow, but misses. Hennig tags Flair, who hits a high back body drop, then chops away before tagging back in Hennig, who has had like 15 seconds recover. Snap mare & neck crank is all he does before tagging Naitch back in. Shoulder by Mortis, who rolls Flair up for a super close 2, then hits a swinging neckbreaker for another near fall. Mortis & Wrath take turns putting the boots to Flair as the big man hits a side suplex for 2. Mortis goes up top & misses wildly with an elbow as Flair makes the hot tag to Hennig, who chops Wrath & hits a high knee. Wrath lowers his head & Hennig puts the brakes on for a Hennig Plex for 3. Immediately after the pin, Syxx & Konnan hit the ring to attack as Mortis & Wrath quickly are out of there. The Horsemen beatdown the NWO to end this episode as you could tell they were on a time crunch.
Alex Wright vs Mark Starr August 23, 1997 Opening move was an Attitude Adjustment by Wright, which, he was a Wunderkind, so of course he was ahead of his time! Boots in the corner as he hits some palm strikes as Starr floats over & does a standard hip toss, dropkick, arm drag, arm bar combo. Hammerlock applied as Wright runs him around the ring & drives him into the corner. To the top, Alex hits the highest knee drop I’ve ever seen as he does his dance after. Uppercut flattens Starr, who is able to get in a few punches, but Wright eye pokes & suplexes him down. To the top, Wright nails a HIGH missile dropkick for the 3 count. Wright was downright impressive here.
Hugh Morrus vs Rick Fuller August 23, 1997 Fuller beats Morrus in the corner to start as he’s chopping the crap right out of the Laughing Man, who fires out with a clothesline. Morrus ducks a clothesline & runs right into a wheel kick for 2 as that almost destroyed him. Just like that though, Morrus hits a spinning wheel kick of his own & drops a leg on the lower sternum. Morrus does it again, this time dropping the head into the bread basket. Powerslam connects as Morrus gets whipped to the corner & he does his step up, spinning clothesline out the corner. He goes up top & hits Fuller with No Laughing Matter clear across the ring for 3.
High Voltage vs Public Enemy August 23, 1997 Odd start, as they all 4 brawl ringside, but get in the ring and we get an arm drag, eye poke & headlock. Weird choice of moves post brawling. Rage hits a suplex on Johnny for 2 as Kaos uses Rages back as a springboard to splash Grunge in the corner. Slingshot legdrop by Rage, who is too busy making his tits pop for the camera, which allows Johnny to hit a neckbreaker & get the hot tag. Rocco hits some punches & signals for the end, which was a sunset flip for 2. Kaos tries a suplex, but Rocco gets a small packaged for 2. He goes to bodyslam Kaos, but Rage pulls the leg out & Kaos collapses on top for the 3 count. Meanwhile, Johnny was too busy going for a table to know what was happening. Post match, they send Rage through a table & quickly go to commercial. This was a pretty bad tag team match.
Mortis & Wrath vs Faces of Fear August 23, 1997 Just like the last match, we start with a brawl, but get back inside where Meng chokes away at Mortis. High back suplex drops Mortis on his neck, tags Barb, who just puts a few boots to his opponent before tagging back out. Mortis floats over a back drop, tags Wrath & the big man floors Meng. Wrath gets a back elbow & leaps off the second, but Meng catches him with a powerslam for 2. Tag to Barb & they hit dueling head butts, but Mortis breaks it up before there’s even a count. Wrath with an inside cradle for 2 as he pops up & Barb connects with a Kick of Fear for 2. Jimmy Hart & James Vandenberg are arguing on the apron as Barbarian runs into both, falling back into a Wrath boot for the 3 count. Meng was too busy with the Tongan Death Grip on Mortis to know what happened. Really clunky match. Post match, Meng & Barb beat up Mortis and Wrath, sending them packing, but randomly smoke started coming out of the ring post, I have no idea why.
Renegade vs Lenny Lane August 23, 1997 Boots aplenty by the former TV Champ, who hangs Lenny up on the top & slams him down. Lenny gets a head scissors, missing a splash follow up as Renegade hits a leaping splash of his own for a 2 count. To the floor goes Lane as Renegade seriously looks out of it as he nails a slingshot cross body. Back inside, pumphandle back breaker that would make DDP proud as he follows with a powerslam, looking uninterested at the official. Vertical suplex gets a 2 count as Lenny is able to hit a desperation bulldog & goes up top for a corkscrew senton, but misses. Renegade shoots him to the corner, springboard handspring elbow & a back breaker across the knee gets him the win.
Faces of Fear vs Glacier & Ernest Miller August 30, 1997 Barb catches a Cat kick & just beats the shit out of him in the corner. He misses a splash & Miller lights him up with kicks, so they tag their partners. Glacier gets some shots in, but Meng no sells & the Faces of Fear pound Glacier to the mat. Atomic Drop & lariat turns Glacier inside out, knocking his block off. Glacier tries a sunset flip, but Meng kicks him right in the head, only to miss a somersault senton. Tag to Miller, who springs in with kicks aplenty. Dusty trying to call them kicks is hilarious. The babyfaces hit double dropkicks as Glacier superkicks Jimmy Hart to the floor. Mortis & Wrath sprint in to cause the DQ as it’s a brawl between the Faces of Fear & Mortis and Wrath, who fight each other at Fall Brawl. Glacier & Miller hit dueling dives onto everyone for good measure.
Prince Iaukea vs Johnny Swinger August 30, 1997 Shoulder block & quick 2 count for Prince as he monkey flips Swinger, dropkicking him to the corner. Johnny eats a superkick to the chops by the Prince, but Swinger tosses him outside into the steps. Bodyslam back inside before doing a dance, allowing Prince to get a school boy for 2. Single leg by Iaukea, who chops away, hits a back drop & high cross body off the top for the 3 count. Under 2 minute match, quick little win for Iaukea.
Silver King vs Yuji Nagata August 30, 1997 Right as we start the actual match, we get a full screen shot of a Lucha Libre story in the latest WCW Magazine. Back to action, arm bar by Yuji, but King reverses into one of his own, getting a takedown for 1. Clothesline and a superkick by King, who waits for Nagata to get up, which wasn’t smart, as Nagata destroys him with kicks & an enzugiri. King tries a wheel kick in the corner and misses as Nagata targets the left leg with just a standing leg hold. We see Sonny Onoo emerge from the back & distract Nagata, allowing King to hit a dropkick and roll up for 2. Sonny is taking pictures of fans with his camera as Nagata connects with an overhead belly to belly, then the Nagata Lock for the submission win. Sonny did nothing out here and it was weird, he seemed pissed Nagata won, but he’d manage him a few months later.

83 Weeks is about GAB 1996 this week. It made me think of this thread because Konnan wrestles Pat Tanaka under a hood. ON A FUCKING PPV. That said, the Sting v Regal match is incredible and absolutely worth going back to watch. My goodness was Regal great and he's only 28 here. I always think of Regal being at least forty, even when he was early 20's.

Drop In, I LOVE that Sting vs. Regal match. One of my favorite largely forgotten Sting matches. It's such a great methodical old-school match. Regal beats the shit out of Sting for 15 minutes and Sting was just so great at timing his comebacks. This is the last great pre-Crow Sting match and you could argue it's one of the last great matches of his WCW career.
I'll never know how Bischoff could see what Regal was doing in the ring and say "Yeah, the TV Title is as far as he's going." Regal was killing it in 1996.

They dusted Regal off for a TV Title run when they needed him, but aside from that, he was just running with Eaton & Taylor, berating Jeeves and sometimes feuding with Duggan. After Eaton broke off to do nothing, he & Taylor were just two dudes.
Slamboree 97 is another great Regal match against Ultimo Dragon. It was a slow paced match and the crowd was quiet for most of it, but the end, even as a heel, Regal winning the title and the finish, they fucking exploded.
Hell once he came back to WCW following the disasterous Real Mans Man WWF run, he was right back on the C and D shows with Taylor. He lost a Loser Leaves Town match to Janitor Jim Duggan on Saturday Night in like 5 minutes (review coming soon to this very thread!)

I'll never know how Bischoff could see what Regal was doing in the ring and say "Yeah, the TV Title is as far as he's going." Regal was killing it in 1996. Regal had a serious drug problem soon after this point. Plus, as great as he was overall, does Hogan v Regal sell a PPV? That said, his work around this time is spectacular.

You're right, Regal was never a main-eventer but I think he would have been perfect in that U.S. Title tier with DDP, Benoit, Guerrero, Jarrett, etc.

I always wondered if Hogan never popped up, would they have done a longer feud with Flair & Regal? If so, what sort of post feud run would he have gotten? Or was he always destined for that level of guys just under Eddie, Malenko, Benoit, Jericho in WCW?
It's insane that even with the drug issues he was as good as he was.
Regal vs HBK is a match we never got anywhere (not to my knowledge), but would've loved to see.

I often find myself wondering what WCW would have looked like for the rest of 1996 if Hall & Nash had not made the jump.
For that matter, I wonder if Austin would have become more than a midcarder with the clique remaining in the WWF.

We likely wouldn't know each other if all of these things didn't happen and the WCW drawing card was Flair v Regal.

WCW Saturday Night (September 1997)
Jeff Jarrett (w/Debra) vs Prince Iaukea September 6, 1997 They trade bodyslams as Jarrett Fargo Struts to the corner, kicking his feet up, relaxing all cool, ready to shoot some b-ball outside of the school. Flying forearm & Sling Blade by Iaukea, who tries a wild cross body off the top, but Jarrett ducks and the Prince crashes. Spinning neckbreaker by Double J, who tries a high knee, but Prince rolls through for a few near falls (crowd actually bites at these) and snap suplex. To the top he goes again, springboard cross, but Jarrett catches him into a powerslam, slaps on the Figure Four for the win.
Johnny Swinger vs Syxx September 6, 1997 Swinger attacks early with a swinging neckbreaker, the best possible move for him to hit. He misses a back elbow, but connects with a leg lariat & can’t believe Syxx kicked out at 2. Honestly Syxx is the babyface in this one and it’s a little strange. Swinger lowers his head & Syxx hits what would become the X-Factor, then a Falcon Arrow. Syxx does the deal as he hits a snap legdrop for 2. Swinger misses a clothesline & Syxx takes his head off with a wheel kick. Bronco Buster connects as Swinger ironically, swings wildly, Syxx ducks & slaps on the Buzzkiller for the win.
Glacier & Ernest Miller vs Mortis & Wrath September 6, 1997 Here we go, the Blood Runs Cold feud spills down to Saturday Night. All 4 men brawl to start with Wrath chopping away at Miller in the corner, but misses a splash & Cat nails some jabs, only to run into a tilt a whirl back breaker. Wrath knocks Glacier to the apron for good measure as he tries a reverse Boston Crab, struggles mightily, but gets it, so Mortis hits a legdrop to the back of Miller’s head for 2. Cat fights back, but Mortis plants him with a Flatliner 1…2…Miller kicks out. That’d become Mortis’ finisher, but Miller floats over & hits a Feliner kick, then gets the hot tag to Glacier (which seems like an oxymoron), but he’s in throwing punches in bunches. Big boot to Wrath & hip toss to Mortis as he wheel kicks Mortis down and MENG COMES OUT and puts the Tongan Death Grip on James Vandenberg, then on Wrath. They toss him back inside & run to the back as Glacier quickly covers him for 3. Nick Patrick didn’t see two 300 pound Tongans hit the ringside area, which is preposterous.
DDP vs Renegade September 6, 1997 Page takes on the guy he won the TV Title from just 2 years prior. They slap each other in the face to start as Renegade scurries to the corner to recover. Page works an arm & headlock as he drops Renegade with a neckbreaker, but Renegade hangs up Page throat first on the top. He hits a Hot Shot on Dallas, tossing him to the corner, choking away, gets a cover for 2 and he can’t believe it (seriously, dude?) Page starts hitting jabs & a wild right, but Renegade HITS A FUCKING PEDIGREE!! He goes up top and Page crotches him, then hits a Diamond Cutter out of the corner for the 3 count. Renegade hit a Pedrigree, that’s the story of this match.
Scott Norton (w/Buff Bagwell & Vincent) vs Hugh Morrus September 6, 1997 Corner chops, a splash & headbutts for Norton start us off as Bagwell mugs for the camera (VINTAGE BUFF), who chokes away with Vincent with Norton taking the ref. Slingshot neckbreaker gets a 2, then Norton hits another big splash and chops, but wakes up Morrus, who connects with his spinning clothesline out of the corner, NO LAUGHING MATTER connects, but Morrus goes after Buff & Vincent instead. This isn’t a DQ, despite the NWO holding onto Morrus to allow Norton to BRAINBUSTER HIM from the apron into the ring for the 3 count. He fucking brainbustered him!
Eddie Guerrero vs Chavo Guerrero September 13, 1997 Eddie attacks with a back suplex & taunts to the crowd as he tries for a powerbomb, but Chavo floats over and hits a tilt a whirl back breaker. Dropkick & chops in the corner as he moonsault over Eddie, lands on his feet & back suplexes him for 2. Eddie fires back with chops & a brainbuster, but hits the ropes, running into a back drop for 2. Chavo sends Eddie to the floor & nails a slingshot plancha! He goes up in the corner, but Eddie cuts him off with a Tornado DDT, goes up top himself & connects with a Frog Splash for the win. Pretty quick match, but fun regardless.
Disco Inferno vs Lenny Lane September 13, 1997 Before the bell, Disco clocks Lenny with a clothesline and lights him up with punches & kicks in the corner. Flying back elbow as Disco struts a little bit before hitting a front slam suplex. He puts out an imaginary cigarette on Lane before Lenny almost gets a pin off a sunset flip. He pops up & Disco hits another clothesline & snap powerslam for 2. Disco poses too much & misses an elbow off the second as Lane mounts his comeback with a head scissors & Top Con Hilo! Lenny connects with the Memory Lane running bulldog for 2 as he mocks Disco’s dancing, goes up for a corkscrew senton & misses. Disco connects with a piledriver for the 3 count. Solid little back & forth match.
Super Calo vs Ultimo Dragon September 13, 1997 Fast back & forth lucha to start with Calo getting a head scissors, but Dragon does his handstand in the corner, dropkicking Calo down. Calo answers with a tilt a whirl back breaker, but Dragon hits a somersault hurricanrana pin attempt for 2, which was rad. Big corner clothesline as Calo responds with a tilt a whirl side suplex for 2. Back drop gets another 2 for Calo as he tries it again, but Dragon floats over & kicks him right in the face. Corner spinning hurricanrana sets it up as Dragon applies the Dragon Sleeper for the quick win. Post match, Alex Wright comes out with the TV Title & dances, rubbing his abs, as we cut to a confused Dragon, who just wants to fight. Wright acts like he’s going to get in the ring, but opts to dance & pose outside instead.
Scott Hall (w/Miss Elizabeth) vs Lex Luger September 13, 1997 Prolonged lock ups & arm bars is how we start, with Hall paint brushing Lex. He wants a test of strength from Luger, who asks the crowd for what seems like minutes, but Hall just gets a rest hold instead. He has it on a full minute before Luger turns the tables & Hall gets a low blow off Elizabeth distracting the official. Hall signals for the end as DDP hits the ring to attack, causing the DQ. Savage attacks Page and the NWO brawl with WCW to end the show. LITERALLY NOTHING HAPPENED IN THIS MATCH and it went 7 fucking minutes. Hall won by DQ if you give a shit, I certainly didn’t.
Ray Traylor vs Vincent September 20, 1997 I have no clue what kind of sunglasses Virg is wearing, but here we are, Bossman vs Virgil, let’s go! Virg tries attacking immediately and actually punches Bossman square in the dick, so Bossman just headbutts him repeatedly, then potatoes Virg with an uppercut right. Virgil is begging for a time out, but it doesn’t work as Traylor destroys him with a Boss Man Slam for the quick win. Thank goodness this went 1 minute, I don’t think I could’ve handled a 10 minute match with these two.
Glacier & Ernest Miller vs High Voltage September 20, 1997 Glacier wipes out Kaos, eats a Rage dropkick, but Rage turns around & eats a Miller boot. Voltage both get sent outside with kicks as Rage takes down Miller back inside with a sleeper. It’s apparently a choke, so Glacier breaks it up, ref scolds him & Rage launches Miller outside where Kaos beats him up. Back inside, rest hold applied by Kaos, who tags him partner & Rage misses a top rope dive. Hot tag to Glacier, who leg sweeps & chops Voltage down before a miscommunication spot from the heels leads to a sloppy atomic drop on Rage & the Feliner from Miller to let Glacier make the cover & 3 count. This was garbage, hot garbage.
Billy Kidman vs Rey Mysterio September 20, 1997 Rey moonsaults off the ropes early, lands on his feet & head scissors Kidman to the floor. He gets to the apron, but Kidman gets a shoulder to the ribs & flying head scissors back inside. Rey tries another head scissors, but gets planted on his face & Kidman hits a splash off the top for a 2. Rey floats over in the corner, but eats a forearm, springs off the ropes & nails a moonsault this time. He signals for the end, West Coast Pop connects for the 3 count. The quickest Rey vs Kidman match I’ve ever seen. Post match, Konnan hits the ring & lays both men out, Rey gets a head scissors & backdrops Konnan to the floor as he bails with Rey standing tall.
Mortis & Wrath vs Harlem Heat September 20, 1997 Stevie & Mortis kick things off with the masked man firing off rights, choking Stevie in the corner, but the big man takes over, tags his brother & Booker hits a scissors kick for 2. Book hits the ropes & Wrath clocks him, allowing Mortis to hit a Flatliner and Wrath jumps in without making a tag, but the ref doesn’t care. Sunset flip by Booker gets 2, he pops up and Wrath meets him with a lariat turning him inside out. Mortis tags, but Booker fires off a flying forearm & tags Stevie who is a house of fire. Big spinebuster for a 2 count as Wrath breaks it up. Stevie hits them both with double clotheslines & dumps Wrath before Harlem Heat connects with The Big Apple for 3.

WCW Saturday Night (October 1997)
Alex Wright vs Billy Kidman October 4, 1997 Wright suckers Kidman in with a cheap shot & uppercut before hitting a bridging suplex for 2. Kidman fires back with a hip toss & some dropkicks, but Wright pops him up for a flap jack. Back elbow in the corner as Wright puts the boots to Kidman, who tries a roll up, but Wright grabs the top rope & levels Kidman with a leg lariat for 2. He repeatedly slams Kidman down by the hair & chucks him outside to dance a bit. He tosses Kidman back inside & goes to the top, getting crotched in the process. Kidman wants a superplex, but Wright slams him face first & just climbs down from the top, opting against a high risk. He bodyslams Kidman THEN goes back up, tries a double axe & eats Kidman’s boot. Billy mounts the comeback with a lariat & bulldog for 2 as Wright floats over a splash, tries a German Suplex, but Kidman swings around into a victory roll up 1…2…3!! Kidman with the upset!
DDP vs Stevie Richards October 4, 1997 School boy by Page almost wins it immediately as Stevie is caught off guard, but he is wearing a sweet ass Poison shirt. Stevie works the arm, gets reversed & scurries to the ropes & sent outside where Raven is barely watching. Back inside, Page hits his pump handle back breaker & Stevie again rolls outside, wanting Raven’s help, but he doesn’t pay him any mind. Stevie gets on the apron, still distracted as DDP knocks him down & Stevie takes a back bump to the floor, which was rough. Raven stands up & looks to do something, but Stevie attacks from behind & Raven just sits down. Back inside, DDP takes over & nails a front slam and Full Nelson spinning Diamond Cutter for the 3 count.
Lord Steven Regal vs Scott Armstrong October 4, 1997 They trade working each other’s arms as Regal kips up out of an arm bar & gets a rope break. Palm strikes to the head as Scott suckers Regal in with a handshake into a roll up for 2 as Regal scurries around the ring like a mad man. Palm strike & uppercut get Regal in control once again as he’s prancing around knowing he’s got the advantage and it’s great. Clubbing shots to the head as he stomps on the noggin of Scott as the prancing continues as Regal is a damn treasure. Scott gets a boot & cross body for 2, but Regal pops up with an eye poke, choking Scott before slinging him to the mat. Armstrong starts his comeback and Regal is bumping all over as Scott is a house of fire before Regal clips a leg, then slaps on the Regal Stretch for the submission. This was a quick, harmless, but fun heel win. Regal is amazing.
Rey Mysterio Jr. vs Hector Guerrero October 4, 1997 Before Rey faces Eddie in a historic Halloween Havoc clash, he must face the former Gobbeldy Gooker. Fast pace start by both as they trade head scissors, but Hector misses a second one & Rey hits a round the world arm drag to the floor and a Tope Suicida! Hector recovers & posts Rey & hits a Vader Bomb springing off the second rope to the floor. Back inside, pumphandle back breaker as he drapes Rey across his knee & tries to submit him, but just tosses him down. Tilt a whirl back breaker gets a 2 count. Rey gets a quick roll up for 2, but Hector hits another back breaker & jumping splash for another near fall. He crotches Rey in the corner & goes up to the second, but Rey forearms his way out, knocks Hector down & hits a West Coast Pop off the top for 3!
Raven vs Mark Starr October 4, 1997 This is of course Raven’s Rules, as these two actually have a slug fest to start before Raven chucks Starr outside & hits a dive over the top. He tosses a chair inside & Starr hangs him up by the throat on the top and goes for the chair. He waits too long as Raven dropkicks it into his face, sets it up and does the drop toe hold onto it. Even Flow DDT onto the chair & 1…2…3. Quick, but showed you what Raven could do.
Wrath (w/James Vandenberg) vs Meng (w/Jimmy Hart) October 11, 1997 Slugfest ensues as Meng just absorbs punishment as he whips Wrath off into a powerslam for 2. Thrust chop sends Wrath to the corner, where Meng lights him up with clubbing shots. Wrath boots out of the corner gets a back elbow & huge back suplex. He goes to the second, connecting with an elbow for 2. They trade chops before Meng hits a side suplex & goes to the top, missing a splash. Just then, both managers start cat fighting on the apron and tumble to the floor as Mortis makes his way to the ring, jumps on the apron, but Barbarian runs down to pull him down. Wrath misses a kick & Meng slaps on the Tongan Death Grip for the win. Clusterfuck finish, but I dug it.
Yuji Nagata vs Steve Armstrong October 11, 1997 Let’s see if Steve can get in the W column? Drop toehold takedown starts, but Yuji reverses & Steve gets the ropes. Nagata works the arm bar, but Steve gets a cheap shot, so apparently he’s heel in this match? Anyways, he slaps on an abdominal stretch, turns into a Camel Clutch. Nagata wiggles free, tries a sunset flip, but gets punched in the face. Bodyslam by Armstrong, but he misses a corner splash & Yuji lights him up with kicks. Armstrong catches one & clocks Yuji with a forearm to the chops as he destroys Nagata with a lariat, but poses for the crowd before getting a 2 count. Punch to the midsection, but Armstrong charges & runs into a T-Bone Suplex & release overhead belly to belly to give Nagata the 3 count. This was before Sonny Onoo started managing Yuji in his short time in the company, so this was one of the few babyface appearances for the future IWGP World Champ.
Syxx vs Hector Garza October 18, 1997 Garza catches Syxx with a moonsault out of the corner for a close nearfall, which would’ve been ironic as hell. He tries for a twisting senton, but Syxx moves & Garza crashes. Snap legdrops by the Kid, who chops Garza in the corner & lit up with kicks as Syxx does the Bronco Buster and bodyslam for 2. Arm bar applied as he slams Garza down again, but poses too much as he goes up top, missing a somersault senton. Garza with a huge back drop & hurricanrana for 2 as he goes up top this time & nails a missile dropkick before connecting with a standing moonsault 1…2…NO! Garza misses a clothesline & Syxx takes his head off with a spin kick, slaps on the Buzzkiller for the submission win.
Meng vs Jerry Flynn October 18, 1997 Flynn tries kipping up off an armbar, but fails, so he just gets up & boots Meng in the gut. Corner punches, but Meng spinebusters out & chokes at Thunderfoot. Meng gets a long nerve hold, then drags Flynn up just to starch him with a super kick. Crazy shots in the corner as Meng is a damn mad man. Piledriver connects, but Flynn kicks out, which was a bad move. Flynn gets in a dropkick, but Meng swats him away like a fly. Spinwheel kick by Flynn, who tries a roundhouse kick, Meng ducks & slaps on the Tongan Death Grip and gets the 3 count off it.
Chris Jericho vs Rick Fuller October 18, 1997 Huge mismatch here for Jericho, who doesn’t care & just starts a slugfest early, which he loses. Fuller beats & chops Jericho, who wisely targets the left leg with dropkicks, knocking Fuller down. He posts the leg over & over, but Fuller hoists Jericho up in a choke while on the apron & just hangs him up throat first. Hard clothesline, but Fuller keeps selling the leg, which is good. Jericho gets a desperation cross body for 2, but Fuller pops up for another lariat. Holy shit, Fuller tries a powerbomb, but as Jericho flips up, Fuller just gives up on it and lets go as Jericho falls. Fuller tries again & Jericho lands on his feet, so that’s what they were going for the first time. Hard chops by Jericho, who slides through a boot & knees Fuller into the corner, but the big man gets a Snake Eyes. Fuller up to the second, but Jericho cuts him off & hits a hurricanrana! He locks in the Liontamer & Fuller submits. Started good, but the ending was really sloppy.
Alex Wright vs Bobby Blaze October 18, 1997 Das Wunderkind starts with a side headlock & shoulder block as poses before finally hitting some uppercuts & back to the headlock. Hip toss, he hits the ropes & Blaze gets the standard hip toss, dropkick combo as he shoots Wright to the corner and Blaze just does a terrible clothesline as he thought Wright was going to cut him off, but didn’t, so he looked dumb. Wright is annoyed, so he just puts the boots to Blaze & hits a German Suplex for the quick win. It was probably Wright’s fault here, but he was smart to just end this before it got out of hand.
Scott Norton vs Ray Traylor October 25, 1997 This was apparently a rematch from Nitro where stuff happened, literally I have no idea because the replay we got accomplished nothing. Within seconds, Traylor hits a Boss Man Slam, but Norton kicked out at 2. Traylor went for it again, but Norton reversed it & connected with a leaping shoulder block & corner splash. Big back elbow, but Traylor answers with a fucking enzugiri! Traylor charges & Norton literally launches Ray Traylor high in the air & just flapjacks him down. Norton misses a splash as he stumbles back into another Boss Man Slam for 3. Post match, Vincent, Konnan, Hennig & Syxx hit the ring to beat down Traylor and it ended with Vincent of all people, cutting a promo into the camera about the NWO.
Fit Finlay vs Barry Houston October 25, 1997 This was Finlay’s return I believe after an absence & the first move of the match, Houston almost drops him on his head with an arm drag. Finlay catches a boot & Houston does a clever reversal into a headlock, but gets punted in the leg by the Bruiser, who slams him down. Double stomp to the belly welly & clubbing blows to the corner as he gets a 2 count. Big back body drop & a punt right to the back as he slingshots Houston under the bottom rope, but was out to far, so Houston just popped up to his feet & mounted Finlay with punches. He gets a near fall before Finlay just starts beating him up more, applying an arm bar, but let’s go & Houston hits a lariat with the other arm. Up top, but crashes off a missed moonsault & Finlay slaps on a version of the Taz-mission for the submission win.
The Giant vs Konnan (w/Vincent) October 25, 1997 Konnan foolishly tries to scrap with Giant to start and gets chucked outside for his troubles. He tries to chop at the big man, who swats K-Dogg down, shoots him to the corner & Konnan hits so hard he bails outside again. Giant chokes him high in the air & tosses him outside again as Vince distracts him long enough for Konnan to clock Giant in the back with a weapon that drops him. He covers him for 2, then punts away as Giant starts to Hulk Up. He’s good & pissed now as he misses a clothesline, but Konnan tries a cross body & Giant catches him & botches turning it into a Choke Slam for the win, crowd didn’t care though. Post match, NWO goons hit the ring & attack, but Rey Mysterio of all people, makes the save with a springboard dropkick on Vincent & back drop to Syxx outside. Scott Norton literally launches Rey into Giant, who catches him, then chucks Rey back at Norton with a dropkick! Amazing! NWO retreats as Rey & Giant stare them down. We needed more Rey & Giant interaction in WCW!

WCW Saturday Night (November 1997 Part 1)
Rey Mysterio Jr. vs Billy Kidman November 1, 1997 Wheelbarrow arm drag by Rey, but Kidman pops him with a forearm & pop up flapjack before leveling Rey with a lariat. Stevie Richards is still around and holding a Billy Kidman Fan Club sign as this was pre-Lodi. Pop up face buster in the corner & dropkick to the back of the head gets a 2 count as we see pictures of Eddie vs Rey from Halloween Havoc mid match here. Kidman hangs Rey up by the throat on the top rope for 2 as he works a prolonged headlock. Luckily Rey escapes & hits an enzugiri, then hits a somersault springboard senton, but misses a follow up dropkick. Rey gets slammed down & Kidman signals for the end as he tries a legdrop off the second rope, but misses. West Coast Pop by Rey gets the 3 count as post match he hits a hurricanrana on Stevie & avoids Sick Boy before bailing.
Juventud Guerrera vs Bobby Blaze November 1, 1997 Quick arm drag by Blaze, who is rocking a serious mullet in this one, as he shows his size advantage early. Juvi answers with a springboard dropkick, lowers his head & Blaze responds with a neckbreaker. He drops an elbow for 2 and nails a sit out powerslam. Juvi hits another springboard dropkick sending Blaze to the floor, where Juvi nails a springboard cross body. Dusty Rhodes compares Bobby Blaze to Dick Slater, which, I don’t know about that one, Dream. Juvi gets crotched in the corner & we almost get a super electric chair, but Juvi spins out into a powerbomb for 2. Juvi sets Blaze up in the corner, decides to fire off 10 punches while on the second rope and Blaze hits a SUPER ATOMIC DROP!! Dusty now compares Blaze to Terry Gordy, which I guess is closer? Slingshot under the bottom rope hangs up Juvi by the throat as Blaze misses a corner splash, Juvi with a hurricanana & they trade pin attempts. Release German lands Juvi on his feet, as they lose their place & Juvi just throws his ass at Blaze & they both just crumble. Finally Juvi just drops Blaze, goes up top & hits the 450 splash (Tony called it a 360) for the win. Aside from the botched finish, I actually dug this quite a bit, despite the size difference.
Harlem Heat (w/Jacqueline) vs The Blue Bloods November 1, 1997 Stevie gets a headlock on Regal & shoulder block that Regal sells like he got hit by a truck as Taylor checks on him. Regal gets a cheap shot, so Stevie pokes him in the eye & drops him and Taylor as the Blue Bloods are forced to regroup. Booker tries working Taylor’s arm, but the Squire gets a cheap shot, bodyslam, but misses an elbow. Booker with a Spinaroonie, Harlem Side Kick, but Regal quickly tags in Regal, who punts Book in the ribs. Blue Bloods miss a double back elbow & Book hits a double clothesline. Hot tag to Stevie, who’s a house of fire with punches & bodyslams. They look for The Big Apple, but Regal cuts them off & the Blue Bloods collide with each other. Dusty says they’re “Discomboobulated” which means they aren’t in sync. Book tries suplexing Taylor in from the apron & Regal hooks the leg as Taylor collapses on Book for the 1…2…3!! Just then, Chris Adams runs to the ring & tells referee Nick Patrick that the Blue Bloods cheated, so Patrick just goes along with it & believes him, so the match is restarted & Booker rolls up Regal for the 3. What. The. Fuck? It was Nick Patrick, so I shouldn’t be surprised.
Vincent vs Ray Traylor November 1, 1997 Feel like I’ve seen this match 20 times already, but it’s actually like the 2nd. Vincent attacks at the bell and Traylor no sells everything, murdering poor Vince with a lariat. He hits a slam, but misses a follow splash as Virg takes over, only to be sent to the floor. Traylor quickly out after him & nails a hard right. Back inside, Traylor is just pummeling Vince, but misses dropping a leg in the ropes. Vincent fights back briefly as Traylor sends him off into a Boss Man Slam for the 3 count. Man, this sucked. Vincent was awful.
Jerry Flynn vs Bobby Walker (w/Teddy Long) November 8, 1997 Teddy Long hanging tough here as Flynn attacks Walker he can’t get his robe off. Spinning leg kick gets a 2 count as Walker gets his robe off & shoots a double leg, fist of fury. Kitchen sink knee as Tony puts over how Teddy feels Bobby Walker is a great rising star, so that was a swing & a miss. Vertical suplex gets a 2 count as he picks the ankle, only for Thunderfoot to boot him in the face. Walker gets a bodyslam & standing legdrop for another 2 as Walker goes back to the ankle pick. Out of nowhere, Walker hits a tilt a whirl powerslam that was actually awesome looking as Walker gets the 3 count!
Gedo (w/Sonny Onoo) vs Psychosis November 8, 1997 The former protégé of Onoo, Psychosis looks to take the fight to the future New Japan Pro Wrestling booker as he ducks back elbows & clotheslines, hitting a spin kick for 2. Gedo fires off a superkick & flying forearm that sends Psychosis outside, as he takes a long time to recover. Gedo misses a splash back inside, rolls outside & Psychosis wastes no time nailing a Tope Suicida. Psychosis landed right on his noggin as we go back inside for 2. Hurricanrana out of the corner gets a super close 2 for Psychosis, who slams Gedo down, goes up top, connecting with his guillotine leg drop. He doesn’t make the cover, instead, Sonny Onoo distracts him on the apron, Gedo recovers immediately, connecting with a front face slam & the Gedo Clutch for the 3 count.
Glacier & Ernest Miller vs High Voltage November 8, 1997 Dusty calls Rage & Kaos “Young Steiners” which is insane. Voltage attacks during what felt like a 20 minute entrance by Cat & Glacier, but the faces regained control quickly with kicks & a good old fashioned armbar. Legsweep by Miller as he holds the leg out so Glacier can splash on it. They’re making fast tags & really doing nothing aside from your standard stuff. Miller gets tangled in the corner & starts sort of throwing wild shots at anything, as Kaos just avoids them all, so Rage clocks him from behind. They work the back & Kaos slaps on a terrible cross arm breaker as Rage comes flying in with a splash & hits his partner, which is really dumb. Glacier gets a hot tag & some bodyslams as Miller hits a Feliner kick off the top & Glacier boots Rage, who didn’t get all the way over the top & they just pinned Kaos for the win. THIS MATCH WAS TERRIBLE!
Hugh Morrus vs Barry Horowitz November 8, 1997 Jawbreaker puts Barry in control early as he fires off forearms & uppercuts. Morrus answers with a high gorilla press in the air, then quickly goes up top & misses an elbow drop. Northern Lights suplex gets Barry a 2 count as he hits a dropkick for another near fall. He struggles, but gets an abdominal stretch on the big man, who quickly hip tosses Barry over, but Horowitz holds on & arm drags Morrus. Hugh tries a back body drop, but Barry puts on the brakes & slams him down for another 2. He works the small of the back as he charges in the corner & eats a boot, so Morrus goes up & hits his No Laughing Matter moonsault for the 3. Barry Horowitz took 95% of this match and I dare you to watch another match of his that you can say that about.
Luchador Battle Royal Juventud Guerrera, Damien, Lizmark Jr., Super Calo, Villano IV, Villano V, Silver King, Hector Garza, El Dandy, Ciclope, La Parka, Psychosis & Halloween November 8, 1997 Despite not getting named, I’m going to guess the last guy was Halloween, even though we’ve never heard his name, just a guess, if not, my bad. Damien misses a corner running leg drop as Lizmark hits a moonsault off the ropes, which is impressive as hell in a battle royal. Villano IV attempts to pin Lizmark off a powerslam & we have our stupid moment of the match early. Psychosis backdrops Ciclope out as Juvi tosses out Damien. Lizmark tries a powerbomb on Juvi, fights forever for it, but actually gets it after a long struggle. That zapped all his energy, as El Dandy tosses Lizmark. The Villanos collide into one another & accidentally eliminate each other. Hector Garza sets Silver King in the corner & dropkicks him out. Calo dumps Garza after a HIGH back body drop. El Dandy on a roll in this thing dumps Super Calo, but he himself gets monkey flipped to the floor. It’s down to Psychosis, La Parka & Juvi as the heels double team The Juice with a corner splash by Psychosis. Juvi gets monkey flipped by Parka into a hurricanrana on Psychosis, but Juvi does the second dumbest move of the match, trying for a pin. Really cool spot sees Juvi launch off La Parka’s back into a monkey flip on Psychosis as the heels collide. La Parka rolls to the outside as Juvi nails a springboard wheel kick on Psychosis, hops on his shoulders & La Parka smacks him in the back, sending BOTH Juvi & Parka tumbling to the floor! La Parka dances all over the ring & sits in his chair, his throne if you will, as the Chairman wins it! Winner: La Parka
John Nord & Barry Darsow vs Disorderly Conduct November 8, 1997 Holy shit The Berzerker & Repo Man teaming up in 1997, just without their gimmicks, instead they’re just dudes. Nord blindsides Mike as Darsow takes control with knees in the belly. Tag to Nord, who gets a leaping high shoulder tackle, then elbows in succession before going back to Repo. Mean Mike gets a boot to the face & tags in Tough Tom, who chokes away in the corner & hits a splash, but turns his back & Darsow clips a leg. Back suplex & tag to Nord, who hits one himself. More elbow drops by Nord, who kills Tom with a lariat, but misses a knee drop, so here comes Mean Mike for the hot tag. I mean Nord no sells a clothesline, hits a front slam & Darsow in to wipe out Tough Tom with a DDT as Nord locks on a Camel Clutch on Mike for the submission win. Darsow puts on Nord’s sunglasses while the move is on as this was a team that should’ve stuck around longer on these shows.
Lex Luger & Giant vs Faces of Fear (w/Jimmy Hart) November 8, 1997 The noises Luger makes when he sells anything is hilarious. You could tap him with a feather and he’d yell & bump. Meng pops Lex with a super kick & the Faces of Fear “go a-clubberin” on Luger in the corner. Barb rakes the face across the top rope as Meng gets in a cheap shot before hitting a legdrop for 2. Big time shoulder breaker as Meng applies a nerve hold, which Luger ever so slowly gets to his feet, but Barb tags & attacks. Back to the nerve hold, this time by Barb as Luger gets free, hits the ropes & they hit dueling clotheslines. Meng cuts off Luger before he can make the tag and Giant just gets pissed, shoves the ref aside & he beats the shit out of Meng & Barb. Luger Torture Racks Barbarian as he gives up, but Meng has the Tongan Death Grip on Giant! Luger fights him off to get his partner free as Giant hits a Choke Slam. Fans are throwing trash in the ring for some reason (I know they did that all the time for the NWO, but they’re doing this on Saturday Night?). Giant never actually got in this match, easy pay day there.
Lord Steven Regal vs Chris Adams November 15, 1997 Adams starts hot with forearms & takedowns as he works the arm early as Regal yells in pain. Regal gets a drop toe hold & we cut to Raven’s Flock entering the building & that’s just weird to me, all these guys on this show just to watch. Cross arm breaker by Adams, but Regal gets the ropes. Finally Regal gets an eye poke & uppercut to get control as he struts & poses at the crowd. Stiff forearms & uppercuts by Regal as Adams gets a sunset flip to almost get a shock win, but Regal gets out & nails a spinning neck wrench into a cravat. Adams is able to fight back & goes to the corner for 10 punches as Squire David Taylor hits ringside & Adams dropkicks him off the apron. He charges at Regal, who side steps & Adams gets tangled up in the ropes as Regal slaps on the Regal Stretch for the submission win. Ending was sloppy, but the rest of the match was solid.
Glacier vs Barry Horowitz November 15, 1997 Surprising chain wrestling and stale mate start us off with Barry grabbing a headlock, but Glacier tries for a Cryonic Kick, as Barry grabs the top rope & bails to the floor. Slowly back inside, Barry hits a butterfly suplex & drops the leg for 2. He goes to the second rope & misses an elbow, as Glacier hits a leg sweep & back drop. Horowitz tries a leap frog, but clutches his leg and charges at Glacier, trying to sucker him, but he runs right into a Cryonic Kick for 3.
Norman Smiley vs Lenny Lane November 15, 1997 Cravat applied by Norman as he transitions to a face lock & keeps it slapped on as Lenny finally reverses into an arm bar. They trade arm bars before Lenny boots Norman, gets a slam, but misses an elbow. Bodyslam, leg drop, elbow drop put Norman in control as he applies a weird standing arm hold, then tries a key lock. Lenny fights out & hits a bulldog for 2 as he goes to the second, missing a big elbow, then another one. Norman is able to hook a leg & does a somersault with Lenny as he gets the win off a leg submission. Super duper technical match.

WCW Saturday Night (November 1997 Part 2)
Horshu vs Joey Maggs November 15, 1997 Luther Reigns gets his shot on Saturday Night as Joey is chock full of knowledge watching Beautiful Bobby matches, so let’s see if it paid off. Horshu does a high leap frog & lariat, then chokes away, breaking at 4 repeatedly. Big back suplex gets 2, as Maggs gets a single leg takedown & full mounts Horshu with punches. They get up and it’s Maggs with more shots & a big hip toss, school boy for 2. Horshu gets a boot in the corner & nails a diving lariat off the second rope for the 3 count. This was a fine standard match, Horshu was green, but was fine.
La Parka vs Bobby Eaton November 15, 1997 Styles clashing for sure in this one as Parka asks for a handshake & Eaton, gives it to him, so LA PARKA HUGS EATON, raises his hand & cheap shots Bobby. I can’t believe Eaton fell for that, so he fires off his hard right hands & a back elbow that sends Parka inside out for 2. Parka tries a running corner senton, but misses & lands on his head as Eaton sends him to the floor. Eaton hits a slingshot that sends Parka into the post! He takes too much time & Parka posts Bobby in retaliation as Tony points out how much he enjoyed Bobby Eaton stomping a mudhole in Dusty and it breaks Dusty’s heart. Inside, La Parka hits a spinning senton off the top rope & quickly puts away Bobby Eaton for the 3 count! Post match, Parka grabs a chair, but Teddy Long & Bobby Walker walk to the ring as Parka takes a seat in the chair, but opts to leave as Teddy Long grabs a mic and says he believes in Eaton and he has a proposition for him. That was it, Eaton shook his head yes & left with Teddy. I have no idea what happened after.
Mortis (w/James Vandenberg) vs Super Calo November 15, 1997 Long entrance for Mortis, who boots Calo to the corner, charges & misses a splash. Calo moonsaults off Mortis’ chest, hits a drop toe hold & springboard cross body for 2 as Mortis bails outside and Calo does his suicide senton, kicking the railing into the fans super hard. Back inside, he gets a 2 count, but gets distracted by Vandenberg, allowing Mortis to hit a second rope side Russian leg sweep. Calo tries a backslide, but Mortis spins out & hits a Flatliner. He lowers his head, but Calo dropkicks & arm drags him down. Calo tries his corner head scissors, but Vandenberg holds onto Mortis & Calo crashes. Mortis hits a second rope Samoan Drop for the 3 count. Fun little match.
Hector Garza vs Alex Wright (w/Debra) November 15, 1997 Totally forgot Debra managed Das Wunderkind for like a month after Jarrett went back to the WWF. This is a weird little pairing, but here we are. Wright offers a handshake & suckers Garza in with uppercuts. Just a series of boots & uppercuts as Debra is more concerned with the camera. It’s amazing how much I disliked Queen Debra in WCW, but loved her in the WWF, must’ve been something, hmm…(puppies). Anyways, back to the action, Wright hits a slingshot splash for 2, but misses a follow up splash as Garza hits a missile dropkick & back body drop. Wright rolls outside & hits a moonsault (and by hit, I mean connect with about 5% of it, as Wright didn’t catch him and Garza is clutching his knee). Back inside, Garza still manages a standing moonsault 1…2…3!! Wright got his shoulder up right at 3 and he pops right up as Garza gets the upset! Wright chucks Garza outside & throws a tantrum inside as Debra is asking what’s wrong with Wright.
Wrath (w/James Vandenberg) vs Hugh Morrus November 22, 1997 Chops & boots to the corner by Adam Bomb, but Morrus answers with a spin kick and clothesline, sending Wrath outside. Wrath jaw jacks with the crowd before getting back in, tries a suplex, Morrus floats over & gets tripped by Vandenberg, allowing Wrath to hit a pump kick. More corner boots before hitting a huge butterfly suplex for 2. To the top goes Wrath, who connects with a flying clothesline, but he poses instead of making a cover. Vertical suplex hits as Wrath goes to the second rope, but misses an elbow. Morrus tries fighting back, but Wrath drops him with a back suplex. Morrus again fires up & this time drops Wrath with a clothesline & powerslam as he signals for the end. Vandenberg pops up on the apron & Morrus drops him with a right hand, turns around & gets planted with a Death Penalty to give Wrath the win.
Yuji Nagata (w/Sonny Onoo) vs Lizmark Jr. November 22, 1997 Lizmark works the arm bar, but Yuji just punts him in the chest & shoots him to the corner to unleash more kicks. Snapmare & kick to the small of the back as he lowers his head for a back drop, but Lizmark gets a boot & chops as Nagata plants him with an overhead belly to belly. We get a crowd shot & see Raven’s Flock entering the arena as Nagata keeps working the leg, but Lizmark snaps off a hurricanrana pin for 2. He does a quebrada for another near fall, but goes up top & hits a diving headbutt to a standing Nagata. Sonny pops up on the apron & distracts him long enough for Nagata to clip the leg & lock on the Nagata Lock for the submission win. Horribly underwhelming Nagata match. Post match, Ultimo Dragon hits the ring & lights up Nagata with kicks as Sonny scurries away.
Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs Rick Fuller November 22, 1997 They start clubberin outside to start as Dusty points out these kinds of guys can survive World War 3, which, they didn’t. Fuller got tired of taking sledgehammers by Duggan, so he starts throwing himself, only for Duggan to hit an arm drag. Slow elbow drops gets Duggan a 2 count as Fuller answers back with thrust chops to the throat. Big boot to the face by Fuller, who slaps on a rest hold to put us to sleep. Duggan fights back to his feet, getting 10 punches in the corner as he hits his spinning body slam and the OLD GLORY KNEE DROP for 3. Dusty & Tony put over how much of a threat Duggan is to win the Battle Royal, which is comical.
Harlem Heat (w/Jacqueline) vs Disorderly Conduct November 22, 1997 I should point out, Tony can’t tell the difference between Mean Mike & Tough Tom, as their gear is identical and doesn’t tell which one is which, so he just says 1 & 2. He keeps saying Disorderly Conduct gets clubbing blows & choking away at Stevie Ray. They keep Stevie isolated as Dusty praises Tony for being like Don King in strongly thinking Steven Regal & David Taylor deserve a Tag Team Title shot. Disorderly Conduct keep making quick tags as Booker could be reading a magazine on the apron for all I know, we haven’t seen him at all yet. Stevie gets the hot tag 5 minutes into the match after a double clothesline (Harlem Heat’s first offense) as Book hits a few dropkicks, DVD on one dude, then Stevie superkicks the other. The Big Apple assisted side kick get Harlem Heat the win as they took 30 seconds of this match, Disorderly Conduct took the rest, which is crazy.
The Giant vs Meng November 22, 1997 They just start chopping each other like mad men early as it’s a wild fucking slug fest! Massive chops by Giant, but Meng no sells & fires off chops of his own in the corner. Violence Party from Meng, but Giant knees out & drops the Tongan with a right. Giant goes for a huge splash, but Meng gets a boot up and hits a Crescent Kick, dropping Giant! Meng to the top rope & HITS A FROG SPLASH 1…2…NO! Giant pops up and Meng goes for the Tongan Death Grip, but Giant gets the Choke Slam grip first because his arms are longer (brilliant) and hits the Choke Slam 1…2…Barbarian sprints in and breaks up the count, only to get Choke Slammed. DQ is called as Giant stalks Jimmy Hart in the corner, while Curt Hennig & Vincent run out and attack him from behind. Just then, Bobby Eaton, The Villanos & Super Calo run out to attack Meng & Giant, for reasons I have no clue, but they get their asses handed to them. Then we get literally everyone else from the back jog out (Mortis, Norman Smiley, Alex Wright, Bobby Walker, Lenny Lane, Yuji Nagata, Barry Horowitz, Lizmark, Glacier, Juvi, La Parka, Public Enemy, Disorderly Conduct, Horshu, Hugh Morrus, Finlay, The Steiners, Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio, Wrath, Jim Duggan, literally everyone is out brawling, there’s like 40 guys out here). Ric Flair runs out and brawls with Curt Hennig as Giant is knocking anyone who gets in the ring down and has a weird standoff with Lizmark of all people. This brawl lasts literally 5 minutes, which is longer than you think. This was an excellent set up for World War 3, even with all the scrubs in WCW.
Dean Malenko vs Lenny Lane November 29, 1997 Quick arm drag by Malenko as he gets a front face lock takedown & transitions to the arm before Lane pops him with a back elbow in the chops. Hard lariat counter off a hip toss as Lenny hits a snap leg drop & chops Malenko, which pisses the Iceman off, who starts firing off punches, only to get back dropped by Lenny for 2. Lenny hits the ropes & gets leveled with a leg lariat by Dean for 2, but Lenny again answers with a running bulldog. They do a series of counters & Lane hits a powerslam for another 2. Lenny misses a dropkick & Malenko hits a double arm underhook suplex & the Texas Cloverleaf for the submission win in a solid back & forth match.
Eddie Guerrero vs Louie Spicolli November 29, 1997 This sort of bums me out that neither of these two are around today. Eddie stalls a full minute before Louie hits a hip toss, arm drag & dropkick that sends Eddie outside furious. Eddie cries hair pull, just so he can cheap shot Spicolli, dropkicking his leg out from under him. Hard corner chops, but Eddie eats a back elbow & boot as Louis connects with a back breaker. Lariat & high back body drop get Spicolli a 2 count. He shoots Eddie off & nails a picture perfect spinebuster 1…2…NO! Louis goes up top, but takes too long & gets crotched, allowing Eddie to hit a HUGE superplex. Guerrero goes up top & connects with the Frog Splash for the 3 count. Match should’ve gone like 10 more minutes, I enjoyed this quite a bit.
Rey Mysterio vs El Dandy November 29, 1997 One of Dusty’s favorites El Dandy as he they take turns flipping out of arm bars & have a stalemate early. Hammerlock by Dandy, but Rey somehow pops into a head scissors & monkey flip. Step up head scissors, but Dandy up so quick he takes Rey’s head off with a lariat. Reverse wheelbarrow arm drag, but Dandy charges & gets monkey flipped to the floor. Baseball slide head scissors by Mysterio as Rey tries a sunset flip back inside, but eats a punch. Running bulldog by Dandy gets a 2 count as he goes for a powerbomb, but Rey spins into an arm drag. Springboard dropkick by Rey gets 2 as he runs into a tilt a whirl back breaker, but can’t hit the elbow off the second rope. Rey connects with a West Coast Pop for the 3 count.
Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs Kendall Windham November 29, 1997 Of course, you follow Rey & Dandy with this. Kendall backs Duggan into the corner & tries some cheap shots, but Duggan has them all countered & drops Kendall with a lariat sending him outside. He drags Duggan outside, only to get posted himself as Duggan hits clubbing blows & tosses Kendall into the railing. Back inside, Duggan wasted too much time & Kendall slaps on a rest hold, because no Duggan match can be complete without it. Kendall misses a corner splash & Duggan nails 10 corner punches as Kendall does a Flair Flop. Spinning bodyslam is the prelude as Duggan hits the Old Glory Knee Drop for the 3 count. Tony called that finisher one of Duggan’s “brand new maneuvers”.
Super Calo vs Villano IV (w/Villano V) November 29, 1997 Dusty points out how during his career he had to deal with The Assassins and the switching they did and compared it to Calo having to deal with the Villanos. Shoulder breaker & DDT by IV, but takes too much time & Calo fires back with a short clothesline. Springboard gets cut off with a punch in the gut by IV, who chops Calo to the corner, but Calo hits a tilt a whirl back breaker & does it again for 2. Calo hits the ropes & almost gets dropped on his head with a snap powerslam, but misses a dropkick as Villano misses a cross body in return. Calo sends IV outside & tries a springboard, but doesn’t get enough spring & settles for a baseball dropkick, but gets caught & awkwardly dragged outside by IV. Calo tries again & this time hits the somersault plancha. The Villanos make a switch & V hits some lariats inside as he slams Calo down, running senton for 2. V goes up top & misses a somersault senton as Calo sets him up in the corner & goes for a head scissors, but Villano IV holds onto his brother & Calo smashes down. Leaping senton off the second gets Villano V the 3 count! Tony explaining who was the legal guy was hilarious. Post match, Hector Garza runs out & tries to tell the ref about the switch, but gets attacked. They try an assisted moonsault out of the corner, but Calo lands on his feet & they do a Garza pop up dropkick to send the Villanos packing.

WCW Saturday Night (December 1997)
Public Enemy vs Los Villanos December 6, 1997 They all trade clotheslines to start as PE stands tall while Villanos regroup. IV runs right into a Grunge tilt a whirl back breaker as Rocco gets in and they hit a side suplex/elbow off the second for a 2 count. Double axe to the arm as Villanos get a cheap shot & bulldog on Rocco for 2. Hot Shot into the ropes gets another 2 as the Villanos are tagging as quick as I’m typing this. They press Rocco high over their heads & drop him with a gut buster for 2. Leaping knee off the top into the belly by IV as Villano V bodyslams Rocco down, but eats a boot leaping off the top. Hot tag to Johnny, but he gets cut off just as quick as the Villanos miss a double clothesline & Johnny rolls one up for the 3 count. Post match, the Villanos try to attack, but PE toss them outside & set them up on the table. Right as Rocco signals he’s going to jump WE GO TO COMMERCIAL AND NEVER SEE THE SPOT!! Classic WCW.
Juventud Guerrera vs Lizmark Jr. December 6, 1997 Quick series of reversals & flips to start as we get a stalemate. They go back to working arm bars & headlocks as Lizmark gets a shoulder block & big powerslam for 2. Juvi floats over a suplex & chops away as he hits a springboard dropkick sending Lizmark outside. Tope Con Hilo by Juvi as he almost just smacks into Lizmark like a brick wall as Lizmark just took it & finally went down. Back inside, Juvi tries a cross body, gets caught & almost gets a small package out of it for 2. Lizmark moonsaults over Juvi, lands on his feet & hits a tilt a whirl back breaker, then a cool face buster for 2. He takes Juvi to the corner, goes up top & crotches himself as Juvi does a missile dropkick, bodyslam & the 450 Splash for the 3 count. Fun cruiserweight TV match.
Chavo Guerrero Jr. vs Louie Spicolli December 13, 1997 Louie damn near decapitates poor Chavo with a Hot Shot on the top to start as he goes to the arm, wrenching the face in the process. Chavo tries fighting back, but Louie hits a stalling vertical suplex, then a front face lock. Short arm clothesline as it’s been all Louie, who drops a head into the sternum. Chavo gets a boot in the corner, then leaps off the second with a clothesline, giving him time to recover. Rights & uppercuts by Chavito, who hits a big back drop & lariat, then just pounces Louie with punches. He straight up paint brushes Louie right in the face, then tries a victory roll, but gets 2. Louie reverses a whip & hits a perfect spinebuster before putting Chavo away with a Spicolli (Death Valley) Driver for the 3 count. Not sure how many wins Louie got in WCW, but this was an impressive showing.
Chris Adams vs Rick Fuller December 13, 1997 This is the debut of Gentleman Chris Adams in WCW as Fuller is already in the ring. Fuller uses his power to toss Adams down multiple times before Adams tries shoulder blocks & cross body that gets caught & Fuller drops him, but misses an elbow. Multiple dropkicks send Fuller outside to regroup as he quickly gets back in & Adams nails a dragon screw & leg lock, picking the ankle. Fuller gets the ropes & hits a wheel kick for 2 as he goes up to the second, missing a leg drop. Adams connects with the Super Kick for 3. Quick match that got Adams to show off his Super Kick.
Eddie Guerrero vs Bobby Blaze December 20, 1997 They trade arm bars, but Eddie escapes & stalls before we get a test of strength, that Blaze wins, stomping on the hands of Eddie. Tony talks about how the NWO has purchased time at the end of the show for a special Eric Bischoff interview. Eddie hits a slingshot senton to the leg, tries a suplex, but Blaze blocks it & hits one himself. Eddie quickly boots at the leg & chokes him in the corner as he keeps raking at the face of Blaze. Finally Bobby makes a comeback with a high knee, scoop slam & forearm for a 2 count. Blaze misses a dropkick as Eddie holds onto the ropes, but Bobby does connect with a spin wheel kick for 2. Corner splash misses as Eddie drops him flush with a brain buster & a Frog Splash for the 3 count. “I don’t know how many Bobby Blaze fans there are out there, but if you are, you’re cheering for him!” was the best line of the match by Dusty.
Squire David Taylor vs Mean Mike December 20, 1997 Hilariously, The Flock is sitting ringside, but not in the crowd, they just have those oversized plastic chairs sitting ringside, why for this match? Anyways, Taylor stretches Mike on the mat to start as he fires off uppercuts as Mike tries fighting back with punches & clubbing blows to the chest, backdropping the Squire. Mike goes to the second & misses an elbow, allowing Taylor to hit 2 more uppercuts & a butterfly suplex with a bridge for the 3 count. Why in the world was The Flock shown out here?
Glacier vs Billy Kidman
(yes, I used a picture of Kidman & Glacier at a random Jerry Springer taping for this match) December 20, 1997 Leaping jump kick sends Kidman over the top, but Lodi throws him back in to get school boyed for 2. Tilt a whirl slam & spin kick send Kidman out the other side, but Kidman sweeps the leg & nails a slingshot legdrop for 2. He goes to the middle of the second rope, but misses a leg, as Glacier leg sweeps him & thrust chop to the chest. High back body drop as he shoots Kidman to the corner, as Lodi takes the ref and Ernest Miller hits the ring & nails a Feliner kick on Glacier, so apparently they broke up? Kidman hits a Shooting Star Press and pins Glacier! Zero idea when Glacier & Miller had a falling out, but that’s WCW for you.
Curt Hennig vs Bobby Eaton – United States Title December 27, 1997 Multiple lockups in the corner as Eaton slaps the shit out of Hennig, who takes a bump & Eaton punches him to the outside. We see DDP walk out & take the US Title of Hennig’s, then just walks to the back. Hennig is favoring his left leg, so Eaton clips it & goes to work back inside. Hard rights by Eaton as Hennig picks the leg & goes to work himself, which is strange. He then just hits the Hennig Plex for the win. That was a weird ass match. Eaton worked the leg for 90 seconds, Hennig decided to target Eaton’s leg with 1 move and just hit his finish. Post match, Hennig wants his title, but he realizes it’s not there. This was tremendously underwhelming.
Rey Mysterio vs Eddie Guerrero – Cruiserweight Title December 27, 1997 They trade waist locks until Rey hits a snap arm drag into a stalemate. Eddie cries a tights pull as he works a hammerlock & arm bar before sending Rey to the corner, dropkicking him in the back. Rey floats through a powerbomb into an arm drag & monkey flips Eddie into the ropes, scaling the top, hitting a wild head scissors. Eddie to the floor & bails and creates distance, but not enough as Rey hits a Tope Suicida sending Eddie crashing into Raven’s Flock seated by the stage. Into the ring we go, Eddie takes over in the corner with chops as Rey counters into an Unprettier for 2. Rey connects with a springboard legdrop for 2, but lands really hard on his tailbone in the process. Rey tries another roll up, but sends Eddie face first into the corner and whirlybird back breakers Guerrero, but doesn’t make a cover. Rey does a DOUBLE SPRINGBOARD WEST COAST POP 1…2…KICK OUT! Rey can’t believe it as he sets Eddie up in the corner, he tries a springboard head scissors, but Eddie catches him & Hot Shots him on the top rope. Eddie up top, Frog Splash, 1…2…3. That was awesome for the time it was given, but nowhere near their level of matches.

WCW Saturday Night (January 1998)
John Nord & Barry Darsow vs Disorderly Conduct January 3, 1998 Repo Man & Berzerker walk into a wrestling ring, it’s 1998. Knees to the ribs & Smash forearms by Darsow as he hits a drop toehold & Nord drops a leg. Big boot as multiple elbow drops follow & Nord wants a tag already, but Darsow doesn’t want back in. Side Russian leg sweep, but Mean Mike gets a knee, tags his partner, but Nord with a leaping shoulder block on Tough Tom. Darsow in & he’s choking away, hitting a back suplex, then tags back in Nord. The Huss Huss master hits a pretty sweet dropkick, then plants Tom with a DDT for 2. Mike breaks it up & gets dropped with a DDT by Darsow as Nord clobbers Tom with a boot, then a super sloppy Hot Shot. They lost their place as they repeat the spot with Darsow grabbing Tom’s head for the Hot Shot this time. Nord slaps on a Camel Clutch & wins it.
Meng vs Bobby Eaton January 3, 1998 Eaton gets clocked with a headbutt in the corner to start, then a DROPKICK BY MENG! Eaton fights back for 3 seconds before he’s sent outside where Barbarian is waiting, as Jimmy Hart takes the ref & Barb chokes away. Back inside Eaton hits a back elbow & some rights, but Meng quickly slams him down, goes to the top & hits a monster splash 1…2…pulls him up. Meng chops Eaton in the face, but Eaton fights back, only pissing the Tongan off as he locks on the Tongan Death Grip & drags Eaton down for the 3 count. Bobby Walker & Teddy Long come out from the back & Barb boots Teddy as Jimmy puts the boots to him & Meng applies the choke on Walker as well.
Chris Jericho vs Evan Karagias January 3, 1998 Jericho gets some early takedowns & wrenches at the face before slapping on a bow & arrow. Karagias rolls out & Jericho fires off hard chops and turns Evan inside out with a clothesline. Crossbody by Evan for 1, but Jericho quickly gets up and boots him in the face. This was the time where Jericho was just turning heel, so he’s much more aggressive here. Slingshot splash from the apron gets Jericho a 2 count as he gets a back breaker before putting Evan in the corner. Karagias knocks Jericho down & hits a 450 Splash 1…2…NO! He goes for a hurricanrana, but Jericho hits the revolution powerbombs & the Lion Tamer for the submission. Good showing for Jericho here.
DDP vs Curt Hennig United States Title January 3, 1998 So much smoke from DDP’s entrance to start as Hennig sends him to the floor, but DDP fights back. This is a Starrcade rematch from last week as DDP had won the title from Hennig. He works the small of DDP’s back as the smoke is still an issue here; you can barely see the guys in the ring. DDP fights back until Hennig targets the always bad ribs, but DDP hits a swinging neckbreaker to get a breather, but Hennig slaps on a rest hold that he uses the ropes for repeatedly & the ref finally catches him, so he breaks. Good old fashioned heel work as Page gets a school boy for 2. Hennig with a sleeper, but Page jaw breaks is way free. DDP does his discus clothesline & signals for the end as he hits his face first piledriver deal, then goes for a Diamond Cutter, but Vincent out to cause the DQ. Page Diamond Cuts him to make the fans happy as Norton & Konnan out as well, but DDP bails through the crowd as that finish came within seconds of them going off the air.
Curt Hennig vs The Renegade January 10, 1998 You go from challenging for the US Title, to wrestling Renegade. The amount of stalling by Hennig is pretty overdone as he finally starts firing off corner chops & knee lift sending Renegade to the floor, where Hennig boots him in the ribs. Back inside, Renegade is able to get off a powerslam & leaping splash for a close 2. Hennig catches a boot & drops his legs on it as Renegade lowers his head for a back drop, but Hennig puts on the brakes & hits the Hennig Plex for the 3 count.
Fit Finlay vs Meng January 10, 1998 To the surprise of no one, these two beat the shit out of each other to start as Finlay drops Meng with a dropkick, but the big man pops right up. They trade chops & uppercuts before Finlay gets a drop toe hold to take Meng down. Meng gets up & hits a dropkick for 2 before we get a rest hold. Finlay gets the ropes & puts a boot up in the corner, as Meng just eats it & punts Finlay to the floor. Backbreaker back inside as Finlay gets an eye poke, as he hits a clothesline, that Meng no sells, so Finlay hits another, dropping him for 2. Finlay gets a cross arm breaker, but Jimmy Hart pops on the apron to distract Finlay, who releases the hold, allowing Meng to pop up, get the Tongan Death Grip for the win.
Chris Jericho vs DDP January 17, 1998 I don’t think these two fought much at all during their WCW time. Jericho gives David Penzer a new suit after ruining his previous one during his heel turn. They bury the hatchet & Jericho offers a handshake to Page, who accepts, but takes Jericho down to the outside. Back inside, Jericho gets a jaw breaker & chokes away before hitting a spinning heel kick & missile dropkick for 2. Jericho argues the count & DDP nearly gets a roll up for 2. DDP fires off some rights before Jericho gets a boot in the corner, wants a Tornado DDT, but DDP counters into a Diamond Cutter off the second for the 3 count. 2 and a half minute match, which was a shame, this could’ve been great. Post match, DDP leaves through the fans & Jericho throws a tantrum, tearing Penzer’s suit once again.
Marty Jannetty vs Louis Spicolli January 17, 1998 Jannetty wearing his 1993 gear for this as he a dropkick sends Louis bailing into the corner as Louis tries a leap frog, but eats a Marty right, clotheslining him to the outside. Louis goes to the back, so Marty chases after him, tossing him into the ring. Louis gets an enzugiri for 2 as he tries a hip toss, but Marty spins out & nails a superkick. Elbow drop misses as Louis nails a neckbreaker for 2. He lowers his head & Marty slams it down & hits a knee lift for a near fall. Louis hits a picture perfect spinebuster & goes for the Spicolli Driver, but Marty flips out, hits the Rocker Dropper for the 3 count. Ironically enough, Tony says that Marty calls that “The Show Stopper” which should surprise no one.
John Nord vs Lizmark Jr. January 17, 1998 Big boot by The Berzerker starts us off, but he misses a standing dropkick, allowing Lizmark to fire off chops. Nord answers with a huge shoulder tackle & Samoan Drop before 4 elbow drops. Nord screams “BEAT ME IF YOU CAN!” as wasn’t Taz saying that at this point? Lizmark gets a few dropkicks that drop Nord to his knees, but Nord headbutts him in the midsection. We get a camera cut & Lizmark hits a springboard dropkick but botches springing to the top. He falls down & Nord hits a sloppy ass piledriver that drops Lizmark on his head. Camel Clutch is slapped on & that’s it. Yikes, that finish was brutal.
Eddie Guerrero vs Johnny Swinger January 24, 1998 Disco Inferno comes out to tell Swinger that the fans want to see him dance, not watch Swinger wrestle, so he drops Swinger with a Chart Buster. Eddie comes running out to the chants of “Eddie Sucks” as Disco quickly bails and he hits Swinger with a back suplex & Frog Splash for the 3 count. Disco is apparently Stone Cold Steve Austin now.
Yuji Nagata vs Barry Horowitz January 31, 1998 Disco Inferno again this week is out to cut a random promo & drop Barry Horowitz with a Chart Buster to start as Yuji rushes out and runs off Disco, but the bell rings & Nagata boots Barry down and slaps on the Nagata Lock for the win. I mean, what the hell was this?
Mike Enos & Wayne Bloom vs Disorderly Conduct January 31, 1998 Enos takes down Mike with a shoulder block, then a release belly to belly & your standard powerslam gets a 2 count. Enos eats a back elbow & clothesline by Mean Mike, who doesn’t tag his partner, so Enos pulls the straps down & hits a whirly bird slam. Tough Tom in & levels Enos with a lariat as we get tags by both guys. Tough Tom taking it to Bloom with a hip toss, but Bloom chop blocks him to the mat. Face rake & a hard right as Bloom tags Enos & they hit their leapfrog slam in the ropes they used to do as the Beverly Brothers, then hit the Shaker Heights Spike for the 3 count. Impressive showing by Beau & Blake.

WCW Saturday Night (February, March, April & May 1998) 4 Months worth for the 4th of July!
Greg Valentine vs Mike Tolbert February 7, 1998 Hammer still chuggin along as Tolbert gets the fast start with a shoulder block & cross body for 1. Dropkicks send Hammer into the ropes (you think he’s bumping more than he has to?) as he answers with a back elbow to the head & works over an arm bar. Tolbert reverses & tries a hip toss, but Hammer just clotheslines him down. Shockingly he takes 1 bump for Tolbert, who lowers his head an inch, so Hammer just kicks him, hits a back suplex and drops an elbow onto his head for the 3. Valentine looked tired in this.
Renegade vs Sick Boy (w/Lodi) February 14, 1998 Sick Boy misses a sneak attack & Renegade hits a Hot Shot and back drop as he sends Sick Boy to the floor. Slingshot plancha by the former TV champ, who gets distracted by Lodi, ripping up his sign, allowing Sick Boy to get a belly to belly & Full Nelson slam. Again Lodi distracts Renegade, who levels him with a lariat. He misses a back elbow on Sick Boy, who hits a springboard back elbow (the first time I’ve ever seen him not botch that) as Renegade answers with a hip toss & big splash for 2. He misses his handspring elbow in the corner as Sick Boy hits a Thesz Press & neck crank for the submission win. Apparently he’s not allowed to use the Pedigree as a finisher anymore?
Jerry Flynn vs Len Denton February 14, 1998 Pre-match, Disco Inferno randomly comes out again & cuts a promo and lays out Len Denton with a Chart Buster. Jerry Flynn then makes his entrance and apparently this match is still happening as Flynn drops Denton with a wheel kick. Dick move by the ref letting this match start. Flynn misses another kick, so Denton clotheslines him down & hits a hip toss. He fires off 10 punches as he shoots Flynn off, misses a clothesline & Flynn hits a roundhouse kick for the 3 count. WHY DID THEY HAVE AN ACTUAL MATCH? What was the point of Disco laying out Denton, only for him to recover?
Horshu vs Jim Powers February 21, 1998 Shoulder block by Powers, who hits a hip toss, bodyslam & quick clothesline sending the future Luther Reigns in the corner. He uses the tights to pull Powers into the corner & hits a butterfly suplex. Rest hold applied as Powers fires up, running into a back elbow though. Corner boots as Horshu just ragdolls Powers down for 2 before going back to the rest hold. Powers quickly escapes, but the big man bodyslams him down. Up to the second rope, he tries an elbow & misses as Powers gets up a boot, slamming Horshu head first into the corner 10 times. He gets a running knee lift & hits his Powers Slam for the 3 count! Jim Powers with a victory in WCW in 1998!
Greg Valentine vs Pat Tanaka February 21, 1998 I wonder if the tape this match was on got lost & they just decided to air it. 1998 and The Hammer vs Tanaka is happening. It’s a bummer that at this point, Goldberg now has Tanaka’s original music. Hard corner chops by Tanaka, who headbutts Hammer, choking away as Hammer turns the tide, shoots Tanaka to the corner & he takes a bump. Eye poke by Tanaka as he just punches & kicks away, he shoots Hammer off the ropes, drops down & Hammer can barely jump over Tanaka, which is sad. He hits a clothesline & Tanaka does his 360 as Hammer hits a butterfly suplex, standard elbow drop & then another elbow to the back of the neck for the 3 count. This is a match that should’ve happened…well…it shouldn’t have happened in 1998.
Ric Flair vs Curt Hennig February 21, 1998 Hip toss by Flair, who gets a side headlock, punching away. Mike Tenay talks about bragging rights being at stake due to both being from Minnesota. Flair immediately goes up top & Hennig tosses him to the mat, slapping on a Figure Four within 45 seconds. Flair gets a rope break as he targets the leg, but Flair gets an eye poke. He slams Hennig to the corner, firing off chops, atomic drop to the knee & Flair applies the Figure Four. Vincent runs out from the back to cause the DQ and Flair puts the figure four on him as that was it, we went to the back. This went 2 minutes and was the worst Hennig/Flair match you’ll ever see unfortunately.
Barbarian vs Barry Horowitz February 28, 1998 Barb just shoves Barry down & chokes away as he beats up poor Barry in the corner. Commentary putting over how you can watch Nitro on the big screen in Philadelphia and meet wrestlers & win prizes. They are charging $10 to watch Nitro on a big screen and I have no doubt it brought in huge numbers. Anyways, back to Barry Horowitz vs Barbarian, haha. Barb no sells Horowitz punches, no sells a knee lift, no sells a clothesline & murders Barry with a Boot of Fear for the 3 count. Yikes.
Disorderly Conduct vs Bobby Eaton & Bobby Walker (w/Teddy Long) February 28, 1998 I guess all that time of Joey Maggs watching Eaton wrestle, they just replaced him with Bobby Walker? Alright then, Walker gets a standard hip toss, arm drag & shoulder block on Mean Mike, sending him outside. Tag to Tough Tom as Bobby Eaton tags in, working an arm bar. He starts firing off right hands on both DC members, as Mike pokes him in the eyes & tags in, dropping an axe off the second. Mike lowers his head & Eaton gets a neckbreaker as he hot tags Walker, who nails a few dropkicks & powerslams Mike down as he tags Eaton, who hits the Alabama Jam for the 3 count. The Bobbys with the victory!
High Voltage vs Bobby Eaton & Bobby Walker March 7, 1998 Can The Bobbys keep their winning ways alive without Teddy Long in their corner? (no clue where he is) Kaos & Walker start as Bobby gets an arm bar & headlock. Flying forearm sends Kaos to the floor as Rage jumps in & here comes Eaton. Bodyslams aplenty as High Voltage takes Eaton down & nails a slingshot legdrop before slapping on a rest hold. Brutal clothesline by Kaos gets a 2 as Eaton answers with a neckbreaker on Rage. Hot tag to Walker, who fires off rights & lefts as Rage & Eaton spill to the floor. Walker misses a splash in the corner & High Voltage nail a Doomsday Device cross body for the 3 count. Scott Hudson calls it The Volt Meter, which, ok. So that means The Bobby’s win streak ends…at 1.
Lodi vs Disco Inferno March 7, 1998 Lodi has a sign that says “Disco Real Bad Nose Job” as he promptly gets bodyslammed multiple times before bailing. Back inside, Lodi gets a cheap shot long enough to hold up another sign, allowing Disco to murder him with a lariat & neckbreaker for 2. We go to the floor & Disco chucks him into the railing, giving him some time to dance in the ring, bodyslams Lodi down, missing a follow up forearm off the second. Lodi throws some shots, but runs into an atomic drop & Chart Buster for the 3 count.
Prince Iaukea vs Horshu March 7, 1998 Quick dropkicks to the face & legs wipe the big man out as Iaukea gets sent to the corner & Horshu answers with boots. He whips Iaukea clear over the corner to the floor & does his Horshu pose (he makes his arms in the shape of a Horse Shoe, I guess?) as back inside, Prince floats over a back suplex, only to get turned inside out with a clothesline. Horshu drops an elbow for 2, then back elbows Prince down. Butterfly suplex connects by the big man, who goes to the second (he’s really doing that pose a lot in this match), walks the ropes, missing an elbow drop. Prince quickly scurries to the top & nails a high cross body for the win.
Ernest Miller vs Psychosis March 14, 1998 Arm drag by Miller, but Psychosis cries hair pull as he chops The Cat to the corner. Running dropkick, drop toe hold & snap elbow as Psychosis poses briefly before Miller sends him to the corner & nails a Feliner kick to the chops for 2. Psychosis suckers Miller into a chase outside & beats him down inside the ring. Hurricanrana connects off the second rope for a nearfall as he tries for it again, but Miller sends the luchador crashing. He hits a diving clothesline off the second, gorilla press slams Psychosis down & goes to the top with a Feliner kick for the 3 count. Cat was green as hell here, but damn was that top rope spin kick impressive.
Rick Steiner (w/Ted Dibiase) vs Vincent March 14, 1998 How bummed do you think fans were when they heard the NWO theme, get psyched, then Vincent walks out, alone? After Steiner cuts a little promo on Virg before the bell, he goes out after Vincent, who suckers Steiner in with shots. Steiner explodes out the corner with a Steiner-line and murders poor Virgil with a belly to belly overhead. He quickly goes up top & hits the Steiner Bulldog for 3.
Glacier vs Chris Adams March 14, 1998 Battle of the superkicks as Glacier starts quick with an overhead chop, but poses, allowing Adams to take out the legs & fire off right hands. Clothesline sends Glacier to the floor & Adams hits a SUICIDE DIVE!! Glacier immediately reverses a whip into the railing, breaks the count DESPITE THE REFEREE BEING OUTSIDE CHECKING ON ADAMS! That was amazing as Adams randomly grabs a chair & starts hitting Glacier in the leg with it repeatedly (not a DQ mind you) as Nick Patrick just allows it. Back inside, Adams sets Glacier in the Tree of Woe and punts away before slamming him down. Gnarly single leg lock applied as Glacier has to get the rope break. Adams chucks Glacier back outside & he’s out after him, charges and THEY BOTH HIT DUELING SUPERKICKS!! Adams is clutching his leg, while Glacier is out cold (no pun intended). Adams can’t make the count and Nick Patrick counts both men out!
Glacier vs Chris Adams March 21, 1998 Let’s see if we can settle it this week? Slugfest kicks us off as Adams tries for the superkick, but Glacier bails outside. Back inside, Adams tries a cross arm breaker, but opts for some weird ass submission that Glacier eye pokes out of. Corner clothesline by Adams, who goes up top & gets crotched. To the floor we go, Glacier slams Adams into the railing and we tease the double countout again as Glacier posts Adams, but throws him back inside. Diving shoulder to the midsection by Glacier, who hits a swinging neckbreaker & signals for the Cryonic Kick, Adams rolls through & catches him with a Super Kick 1...2…3! The Gentleman gets the W two weeks in the making.
Scott Norton vs Chase Tatum March 28, 1998 Holy shit, first move of the match, Tatum tried an overhead belly to belly on Scott fucking Norton & dropped him right on his face. Thank goodness Norton didn’t try to tuck his head, he would’ve broken his neck. Tatum scrambles & just slaps on a bad arm breaker before Norton takes over and lays in his shots something fierce. Tatum does hit a snap powerslam, but Norton gets a corner boot & lariat. Massive shoulderbreaker gives Norton the quick win. That was fucking scary.
Booker T vs Yuji Nagata – WCW Television Title March 28, 1998 I have no idea if this was for the TV Title or not, but Yuji Nagata deserves a shot, so I’m making this a title match. Booker starts hot, clotheslining Yuji to the floor & he’s out after him, firing off shots as Sonny Onoo causes a distraction. The chase is on as Yuji levels Book with a clothesline of his own on the floor. Throat first over the railing as Yuji punts away, heads inside & gets a few rest holds before Booker makes a comeback. Booker takes a hard buckle & Yuji nails a release belly to belly for 2. Stiff kick drops Book for another and we’re onto our 3rd rest hold, this time an arm bar. Finally Booker hits a flapjack, spinaroonie & scissors kick as he connects with an Axe Kick. Big time spinebuster as the champ goes to the top & hits the missile dropkick for the 3 count and (to me at least) successful title defense.
Ultimo Dragon & Kaz Hayashi vs The Armstrong Brothers April 11, 1998 Scott & Steve sneak attack at the bell as they isolate young Kaz in the corner. Chavo Guerrero out scouting Ultimo Dragon as I think this was when Eddie & Dragon had a program, maybe, I dunno. Scott & Steve take turns beating down Kaz, who tries a springboard cross body, getting caught as Dragon hops in & dropkicks them all down. For some reason they just let Dragon be the legal man, who hits his corner handstand kick. The Armstrongs have a malfunction at the junction, snap suplex to Scott, swanton bomb by Kaz & they hit a front slam/top rope senton for the quick 3 count. Surprised they didn’t do more with Dragon & Kaz. We also never saw Chavo aside from one shot early on.
Jim Duggan vs Tony Carr April 18, 1998 Clean break by Carr in the corner and Hacksaw gives a polite golf clap. Duggan does a clean break, but Carr cheap shots him, throws rights, but Duggan no sells, clotheslining him down repeatedly. Carr bails outside, gets inside & misses everything he throws as Duggan nails a few punches & his spinning bodyslam. That’s the set up as the 3 point stance clothesline & the Old Glory knee does it for this 2 minute squash.
El Dandy vs Evan Karagias April 18, 1998 Fast start & a few takedowns by Evan, but Dandy picks the leg into a spinning toe hold. Scott Hudson puts over El Dandys…punching ability. So right on cue, Dandy hits…a punt to the chest of Evan. Boot in the corner & running bulldog get Dandy a 2 as they trade chops & kicks. Evan scurries to the apron & nails a springboard cross body for a near fall as Evan nails a slingshot plancha. Back inside, Dandy misses a dropkick & Evan misses a chop, as Dandy HITS A RIGHT HAND for the 3 count. It’s like Scott Hudson saw this match before it happened. El Dandy with a victory in 1998 and it came off a fuckin punch!
Reese vs Barbarian (w/Jimmy Hart) April 18, 1998 They trade knees & chops in the corner as they collide with dueling shoulder blocks & both no sell. Barb hits the ropes & Reese levels him with a clothesline. He tries a headbutt & Reese gets woozy as Barb no sold. Barb goes clubberin, but Reese answers with a back suplex. Terrible looking elbow drop as Reese hits a bodyslam & then Jimmy Hart pops up on the apron. Reese has him in his clutches, but Barb hits a boot to the back & the Boot of Fear to drop the 7 footer for the 3 count.
Barbarian vs Super Calo April 25, 1998 I see Barbarian vs a cruiserweight, I’m clicking on that match. He destroys poor Calo with chops early, but Calo scales the ropes, tries a moonsault, gets caught & slammed into the Tree of Woe. Calo gets free & hops on Barb’s back, but he just shrugs him down, choking away. He continues mauling Calo, tossing him outside, driving him back first into the post. Back inside, Calo gets in a few shots, but Barb no sells & misses a corner forearm. Calo to the top, but he nearly slips, allowing Barb to crotch him. He goes up top & hits an overhead belly to belly SUPERPLEX & the Boot of Fear for the win. This was a destruction of Super Calo.
Glacier vs Lenny Lane April 25, 1998 Headlock by Lane, he flips over a hip toss attempt & gets taken down by Lane. Glacier playing the heel here, so apparently he turned at some point? Cheap shot by Glacier, who dishes body shots & a spin kick to the face as he unloads in the corner. Seriously, when the shit did Glacier turn heel? Hip tosses by Lane, then his bulldog connects for a 2 count. He climbs to the top, but gets hit in the ribs as Glacier connects with the Cryonic Kick for the 3 count. SERIOUSLY, GLACIER IS HEEL IN EARLY 98??
Jim Duggan vs Roadblock May 16, 1998 The great Jim Halpert once said “Lord, beer me strength.” That’s what I said to myself when I saw this pairing. Roadblock attacks at the bell & drops Duggan with a clothesline & big time elbow as he sends Hacksaw to the floor. Roadblock drops an axe off the apron, but Duggan posts him twice & clocks him with a lariat. Charles Robinson has to pull Duggan off his opponent (instead of counting to 10) as they head back inside. Roadblock regains control right into a bearhug rest hold. Duggan eventually gets free & fires 10 punches in the corner, eats a Roadblock clothesline, who goes to the second, leaps & eats a Duggan boot. 3 point stance tackle & the Old Glory knee drop get Hacksaw the win.
Perry Saturn (w/Kidman) vs Evan Karagias May 16, 1998 Evan gets beat up badly in the corner, then murdered with a lariat before Saturn chokes him over the top. Evan fires off a few dropkicks, then round the world DDT, springboard, but gets caught & Saturn hits a double arm underhook suplex. Super kick to the chops by Saturn as Kidman throws in a chair, giving something Saturn to springboard dropkick off of. Scoop slam & top rope guillotine leg drop as he flattens Evan with the Death Valley Driver & the easy win.
Barbarian vs Bobby Eaton May 23, 1998 Hard rights by Eaton to start, but Barb rag dolls him to the corner with some clubberin shots. Jimmy Hart runs distraction as Barb drops an elbow on the throat over the edge of the apron, then posts Eaton right in front of the ref. Why was the distraction needed? Jimmy takes the ref again & Barb slams Eaton back first into the post. Barb takes the ref & Jimmy boots Eaton in the ribs as he heads back inside & Eaton fires off 1 shot before Barb hits a back fist. He lowers his head & Eaton nails a neckbreaker, then grabs Jimmy Hart, who levels him with a right hand, turns around right into a Boot of Fear to give Barb the underwhelming 3 count.
The Giant vs Power Company May 23, 1998 Giant is wearing both tag belts as one is Sting’s I think. These are those tiny WCW tag titles, so they look comically tiny on Giant. He double pie faces Power Company down, big boots one & gorilla presses the other into him. He powerbombs one member down, then hits a massive choke slam on the other as he demands the titles, which he places over both prone bodies, then puts 1 finger on each for the win.
Brian Adams (w/Vincent) vs Villano IV May 30, 1998 Adams shows off his power early, sending Villano to the floor to regroup. He gets back inside & the same happens, he tries for a cross body & Adams presses him high in the air, dropping him with a gut buster. Big time backbreaker as it’s just your standard boots & punches before Adams hits a leg drop for 1. He stood up, giving up on the cover as Villano gets up & throws one shot, before getting dropped again. Adams misses a corner splash & this falls apart as Villano catches a cross body attempt with a fall away slam & then he hits a backbreaker slam for the 3 count. This was a terrible squash match.
