Dan Bernstein needs to explain to Dave that correlation doesn't equal causation. You are just crushing the ball right now.

Obama was elected president two months after the economy crashed, therefore the economy crash was Obama's fault, since he presided over the ensuing recession. That's Dave Meltzer logic. Randomone liked this?!?!?! Face turn coming?!?! Waiting to see "open to network" across his bio

“ Look, his number are bigger than Cena’s. I mean that would make him the biggest most successful babyface since the Austin/Rock era”
What makes him the babyface responsible for this? What’s the date range? Like none of this makes sense. He is about as factual as Sean Hannity is covering politics.

Dave is correct that Cody is the top babyface at a time when the product is scorching hot and he’s a big (not only, but big) reason for that. People are tuning in and coming to shows for the top babyface, which is Cody. Take him out of the equation and I don’t think they’d be as hot as they are now. Roman played a major role in this too, so he needs to be acknowledged (no pun intended).
Cena was the guy for longer, sure, but it was during a rather down period.
So while Dave is right in regards to Cody outdrawing Cena right now, if that’s still the case 5 years from now, then I’d say it’s no doubt. Until then, I’d say give this Cody run more time before making any definitive Cena comparisons.

Also I liked Cairo’s comment because it made me think of the dumb fucks who think Biden was responsible for Covid, despite becoming President like 10 months into it.
The Obama/economy comparisons was a good one

Last 2 1/2 years they’ve been peaking for the first time in ages. Cody showed up at Mania 2 years ago. He’s been their top babyface. Sure there’s been guys like Rollins, Drew, Owens, Sami (for a while), but none has had that main role like Cody.
It’s Cody & Roman more than anyone else. Of course Rock’s return boosted ratings too, but for a weekly tune back in to see what happens next “babyface”. People are tuning in and spending their money to see Cody
And he’s been delivering.

Roman carried the ball for a lot of that time, then Cody came in and became the huge babyface. And then Vince got tossed out. It was a nice confluence of events.
Plus paydays that came from selling PLE's to other countries.

Legit trying to think who would’ve beaten Roman had Cody still been in AEW? Drew? Rollins? Sami? Roman still be champ? Dwayne?
Cody was something new (granted he lost the first Mania match, but you know what I mean) and not a guy Roman just ran through multiple times because they ran out of babyfaces.

I love Cody but this is much more about Roman in my opinion than Cody. Sometimes the heel faction is the draw (nWo). Cody couldn’t have carried the wwe torch the way Cena did during that period. Cody was gifted a once in a lifetime mega heel run to defeat. I still don’t agree with it but appreciate your consistent defense of one David P Meltzer. It has to be exhausting work.

Didn’t more people watch Raw in 2011 for example? 2008? Like by a lot? Times were different but I’m trying to figure out exactly what data Dave used to create this idea. He’s certainly ignoring some data to create this narrative for one of his boys.

With them being paid out the ass by different deals and rights, etc. add to that attendance has been way up the past few years. Cody is the top babyface throughout the run. It’s a run that’s been making more money than when Cena was on top.
Cena has made more overall obviously because he was the guy for years and years. But Cody is the top babyface now and there’s more money coming in that during that Cena run.
Sure TV ratings themselves are down across the board for everyone, but streaming and social media and how people take in the product are much different than during Cena’s top guy run.

We're kind of "arguing" about a passing comment on a podcast that's probably fairly accurate. It might have also been to get people talking about a passing comment on a podcast to get more people to listen.

Sometimes I wonder who is more trustworthy between him, hulk hogan and the my pillow guy.

Although I think Hogan said that Dusty told him in 1979 that Cody would be the a bigger drawing babyface in 2024 than Cena.

Of course Cody should be credited. Entirely? Of course not, but he’s a key component of why they are so hot. Roman is, the booking leading up to Mania, the old man finally fucking off, etc.
But Cody is the top babyface for this run, so he should be given a tremendous amount of credit. Likewise to Roman.
People are paying to see the product and he’s the top babyface they’re paying to see.

I thought his ratings were just his opinion? Can you hate something and still say it's great? And if you do, are the ratings no longer just "his opinion"?
Seems very Trumpian...

I read this somewhere else and that quote sounded like Trump talking. I almost shared it here and thought, nah I’ll just leave it be.

Piper once tried to hire The Berzerker to beat up Bryan at a show in Oregon over something Dave said.
Piper also brought Bryan into a room, shut the lights off and turned a lighter on, telling him he’d burn Dave’s house down.
