Official Thread. I'm doing reviews for all the matches like always. I'm so psyched for this to start on Saturday. Last year was loaded, but this one has the most stacked block in G1 history with the A Block. Here's the official rundown of everyone involved in A Block as well as the times of matches, so go out of your way to watch pretty much every match that doesn't involved Taichi or Yujiro. There's so many potential MOTY candidates in this Block alone. I'll do B Block on Wednesday or Thursday.
A Block "Golden Star" Kota Ibushi (6th G1 - 2019 G1 Winner)
"Mr. Athletic" Jeff Cobb (2nd G1)

"Stone Pitbull" Tomohiro Ishii (8th G1 - NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Champion)
"The Aerial Assassin" Will Ospreay (2nd G1)
"The Dragon" Shingo Takagi (2nd G1)

Night 1 Will Ospreay vs. Yujiro Takahashi Ospreay hits a snap rana & does his fake out dive doing a back flip back inside, then tries a slingshot plancha, but lands on his feet. Yujiro sends him into the railing & hits a reverse DDT on the floor. Back inside, Yujiro gets a running corner boot & snap dropkick for 2, then a bodyslam for another 2. Legdrop, elbow drop, headbutt combo gets another near fall as Ospreay starts fighting back, tries for a suplex & Yujiro bites his way out. Ospreay hits a handspring Pele kick & standing shooting star for 2, then hits Pip Pip Cheerio, tries for Storm Breaker, but Yujiro slides out. They trade reversals with Ospreay hitting a wall walk dropkick & enzugiri, but Yujiro catches him with an Angle Slam for the double down. Yujiro connects with Miami Shine for a close 2, tries for Pimp Juice, but Ospreay gets a roll up for 2. He gets up & Yujiro folds him up with a lariat. He tries for Pimp Juice again, but Ospreay escapes & hits a Hidden Blade to the chest, then Storm Breaker for the 3. Fun little sprint of an opener. Say what you want about the stories/rumors you hear about Ospreay outside of New Japan, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss seeing him wrestle.
Jeff Cobb vs. Taichi Tell me if you heard this before, Taichi stalled to start. Cobb went after him & Taichi used the ring bell hammer to go after the left leg. Back inside, he zoned in on it, but Cobb fought back with a splash & lariat. He missed a back elbow in the corner & Taichi cracked him with a jumping high kick. Taichi goes back to the well as he hits another one after they had traded some strikes. Off come the pants, but Cobb blocked the buzzsaw kick, flattens Taichi with a brainbuster & standing moonsault for a 2. Tour of the Islands is countered into a back suplex, as Taichi hits an Axe Bomber for a close 2. Black Mephisto attempt, but Cobb is too heavy, so he answers with 3 suplexes. Tour of the Island attempt again, but Taichi hits the thrust kick & Black Mephisto for the 3. On the Taichi Bullshit Level, this was a perfectly fine little match with a lot of action. If we got this kind of Taichi the whole tournament, I’d love it; unfortunately I don’t see that happening.
Tomohiro Ishii vs. Minoru Suzuki The wallpaper on my computer is a black & white picture of Suzuki vs Ishii from a RevPro show. Bell sounds & within the first 30 seconds, these two have already thrown 30 forearms a piece! The counters are insane as they finally scramble away, but immediately start throwing forearms again. I wish I kept an official count. Suzuki wraps up Ishii with an armbar in the ropes, releases & we go outside where Suzuki does Suzuki things, mainly murdering Ishii with a psychotic look. Back inside, Suzuki allows Ishii to forearm him, he eats it & flattens Ishii with forearms, running boot, but runs into a snap Ishii powerslam. Saito suplex connects as Ishii starts toying with Suzuki, but it ends in both men throwing violent forearms (Suzuki laughing after eating his). Ishii crumbles as Suzuki hits three PK’s, but it only wakes Ishii up. Misdirection spot ends with Suzuki hitting two big boots, but Ishii answers with a snap German. Some unprotected headbutts on their knees turns to forearms, turns to slaps that echo through the arena. Ishii hits a violent heabutt, then drops Suzuki with a lariat. Suzuki tries the rear naked choke, but Ishii counters into an Air Raid Crash that drops Suzuki on his head. Sliding D gets a 2 count, as Suzuki fights off the brainbuster, but Ishii hits an enzugiri. Both up & scream at the same time as they start throwing dueling slaps & Suzuki stands tall. Ishii pops up & flattens Suzuki with a lariat, but the Murder Grandpa laughs getting up, so Ishii murders him with a lariat. Brainbuster attempt countered & Suzuki hits the Gotch piledriver for 3. What the hell can I say; these are two of the greatest of all time.
Shingo Takagi vs. Jay White Switchblade is shredded as shit. It takes 90 seconds before Gedo attacks Shingo, but it doesn’t work, as Shingo sends Switchblade into the post. Gedo hooks the leg & White sends Shingo into the railing multiple times (like A LOT) as they tease the countout spot. Shingo slides back in, but White targets the lower back. He choked Shingo in the ropes, tried for 2, but Red Shoes wouldn’t count “people do way worse, why no count?” which I got a chuckle out of. Switchblade remains in control, but slams Shingo down by his hair, so Shingo pops right up, grabs the hair & lariats White in the neck. Hair mare by Shingo, who clotheslines White to the outside where Shingo has a little Violence Party ala Super Dragon, then chucks White into the railing & DDTs him down. Back inside, snap suplex by Shingo, but nonchalant cover gets 2. Shingo misses a corner splash & White answers with a snap back suplex, corner uppercut, atomic drop & DDT combo, then hits a Blade Buster for 2. They trade uppercuts, but Shingo avoids one & his Noshigami. Wheelbarrow slam & some 12-6 forearms starch White, who tries throwing a wild forearm & Shingo stares at him. “Ohhh, Noooo” says White, who chucks Red Shoes into Shingo, hits a Flatliner & German that stacks Shingo up. Uranage connects for 2, but Shingo grabs wrist control & they double headbutt each other. 11 unanswered forearms & 2 sliding lariats by Shingo, who hits a pump handle gut buster for 2. White screams for Gedo, who right on cue pops up on the apron to let White get a school boy, but Red Shoes notices the feet on the ropes. Pumping Bomber misses, White with a snap German & Kiwi Krusher for 2. Switchblade wants Blade Runner, but Shingo counters into Made in Japan 1…2…KICK OUT!! White grabs the ref, here goes Gedo, who gets starched, White tries to attack, but Shingo hits a Pumping Bomber! He wants Last of the Dragon, but they do a fucking shitty ref bump as Shingo hits the move, but there’s no Red Shoes. Switchblade gets a low blow as miraculously Red Shoes recovers to see White hit a suplex for 2, then a crucifix suplex & Blade Runner for the 3. Tell you what, I get it, Jay White is a shitty little heel, but it comes at a price as the finishes to his matches are usually bullshit. This was a match bookmarked by said bullshit, but the match in the middle was excellent. I’ll take 95% great and 5% bullshit and grateful it’s not the other way around.
Kazuchika Okada vs. Kota Ibushi No biggie, just the main event of Wrestle Kingdom Night 1 last year is the main event to kick of your tournament. They trade headlocks for the opening minutes, but Ibushi snap ranas Okada to the floor. He tries an attack off the apron, but Okada pulls him down & slams him into the railing & DDT’s him on the floor. Snap dropkick back inside by Okada, but Ibushi fires back with a dropkick of his own, then hits a mid kick & standing moonsault for a near fall. Okada answers with a back elbow & hanging DDT in the corner, but Ibushi responds with a Pele Kick. Money Clip is countered, so Okada settles for an Air Raid Crash on the knee. Russian leg sweep into Money Clip as Ibushi starts to fade, but he pretty much falls & gets the ropes luckily. Okada insanely wanted a Tombstone on the floor, but luckily Ibushi floats over, ducks a clothesline, scales the ropes & hits an Asaii Moonsault! Springboard dropkick out of the corner back inside as Okada is set in the corner & Ibushi (almost losing his balance) manages to hit a springboard hurricanrana for a near fall. I don’t think anyone else could’ve maintained their balance like that. They trade Tombstone attempts, Ibushi tried a Crunchy, but Okada reversed & hit the Tombstone for the reset. They slowly rise & we get a forearm exchange (not to the level of intensity of Suzuki & Ishii, but that’s downright impossible). They’re daring each other to hit them with forearms as they get to their feet & the battle continues and Ibushi wins it as Okada crumbles off a palm strike. Head kick again crumbles Okada as Ibushi turns into Shinsuke Nakamura with the YEAOH in the corner, charges for Bomaye, but Okada hits the Tombstone again & sinks in Money Clip once more. Ibushi slowly gets up, tries for a lawn dart, Okada back to Money Clip, but Ibushi arm drags out. Okada tries for the John Woo dropkick, but Ibushi dives away & Okada crashes. 20 minute call, Okada wants a third Tombstone, but Ibushi avoids it & hits a high kick and V-Trigger. Ibushi wants Kamigoye, but Okada dropkicks out of it & hits his signature snap dropkick. Okada wants Kamigoye, but Ibushi powerbombs out of it, charges & hits Bomaye, then a Kamigoye for the 3 count! Excellent main event to a super strong opening night.
A Block Standings 2 Points – Will Ospreay, Taichi, Minoru Suzuki, Jay White, Kota Ibushi 0 Points – Yujiro Takahashi, Jeff Cobb, Tomohiro Ishii, Shingo Takagi, Kazuchika Okada

Night 2 Juice Robinson vs. YOSHI-HASHI Juice comes out dressed like a Blue Brother on Broadway & is rocking a new look. He’s playing to the crowd with a lot of expressions, but YOSHI takes him down. They both hit shoulder blocks & Juice hits a standing senton for 2. He continues picking YOSHI apart slowly for a few minutes, but YOSHI answers with a running blockbuster. He hit another neckbreaker and a few chops, but Juice would overtake him with a running corner senton. He gets the crowd into it as they go to the corner & YOSHI hits a sunset flip running powerbomb for 2. They duck a few moves & YOSHI hits a lariat for a close 2. After a few tries, YOSHI hits a Fisherman’s suplex, then applies the Butterfly Lock. Juice gets the rope break, but YOSHI slams him down, goes up top & hits the Swanton for 2. They trade chops, but YOSHI hits a spin kick, as Juice turns him inside out with a lariat & connects with the Juice Box for 2. YOSHI counters Pulp Friction into a school boy for 2, but Juice hits 2 Left Hands of God, then Pulp Friction for the 3 count. Hard hitting back & forth battle between these two. Very impressed.
Toru Yano vs. SANADA The ref found two rolls of tape in the knee pads of Yano pre-match, then 1 in the trunks right as the match started. SANADA got a roll up for 2, so Yano untied the buckle and we got a rolling cradle spot with Yano still holding the buckle. He smacks SANADA in the head with it & stumbles up the ramp he’s so dizzy. He’s doing this to sucker SANADA into chasing him, but SANADA isn’t falling for it & Yano barely beats the count. We get a dueling buckle pad spot, which SANADA wins, he does a moonsault, but Yano gets a school boy for 2. He slingshots SANADA into the exposed corner, but SANADA kicks him back first into the exposed buckle & nearly gets a small package for 2. Slingshot plancha outside by SANADA, as he applies the Paradise Lock in the aisle. Uemura got Yano free, so as a result, SANADA went after Uemura & applied the Paradise Lock. As this was happening, Yano taped SANADA & Uemura both together and got the countout win. The comedy is fine & Yano will be doing this the whole tournament, but why did the ref allow Yano to do this, when he scolded him for tape earlier? Apparently tape is fine if you use it outside?
Hirooki Goto vs. KENTA First 5 minutes were much slower than you’d expect, but it wasn’t due to long holds or anything, they just slowly hit their strikes & kicks, as the other would take the his opponent down. KENTA mocked the crowd as he really starts punting the arm of Goto and these are brutal sounding. It’s the equivalent of Suzuki & Ishii throwing forearms, that’s how loud they are. Finally Goto had enough & rag dolls KENTA down, hitting a snap back suplex, corner lariat & running bulldog for 2. He wants Ushigoroshi, but KENTA rakes the eyes & hits a snap powerslam. KENTA slapped on the triangle, tried to go for Game Over, but Goto got the ropes. They traded forearms on the apron & Goto grabbed the arm & slammed it down over the top rope. He punts the left arm for revenge & slaps on a Dis-Arm-Her as a tribute to Becky Lynch (ok, maybe not, but I laugh at the thought of Goto fanboying over Becky). KENTA gets to his feet with it still applied, so Goto hits an Angle Slam variation for 2. KENTA regains control with a draping DDT & running corner kick and his stalling dropkick, then goes up top & nails the double stomp for 2. Busaiku (thanks Wikipedia for proper spelling) Knee connects for 2, but Goto counters the GTS. KENTA slaps the shit out of him like 12 times, but Goto hits Ushigoroshi, then applies Shoryu Kekkai (again, thanks Wiki), but KENTA gets the rope break. They trade counters & a misdirection as Goto tries GTR, but they stumble briefly before KENTA tries Game Over & gets it locked. Just as Goto is about to get the ropes, KENTA rolls through sinking it in deeper & Goto taps. This is going to be one of those matches that is completely forgotten about due to the level of matches we’re going to see in the G1, but this was excellent & hard hitting.
Zack Sabre Jr. vs. EVIL Early brawl on the floor as EVIL went right for the back of Sabre. He untied a buckle, but before he could do anything, we get an exchange of cobra twists before EVIL slaps on a half crab. EVIL wanted to send Sabre into the buckle, but Zack knew better, headbutts the midsection & snaps the neck with his feet. They trade a bunch of counters before EVIL throws Zack’s leg into Red Shoes, who catches it & EVIL superkicks Zack in the gut. I love how Zack looked at Red Shoes and said “what the fuck?” as EVIL sets him up in the corner & stomps down. The crowd hates EVIL so much that Sabre is the babyface here & are clapping for him. Misdirection spot gives Zack the Octopus Hold, which EVIL grabs the ear & wrenches it to get free and hit a Fisherman’s suplex. Unorthodox escape to say the least. EVIL mocking the fans while he goes for a superplex & connects for 2. Zack blocks Everything is EVIL, while EVIL blocked a Zack Driver, as here comes Togo right around the 10 minute call as Zack has EVIL trapped in a weird ass submission. ZSJ boots him down, then drops EVIL, who blocks a PK & sends Sabre into Red Shoes. Togo hops in to put the boots to ZSJ and he & EVIL take turns hitting running sentons. Jushin Liger on commentary is biting his tongue, disgusted by this, as Sabre mounts his comeback, applying a cross arm breaker on Togo briefly. Liger is chanting for Sabre while on commentary as EVIL tries a mule kick, but Sabre blocks into an ankle lock. EVIL rolls through & SABRE EATS THE EXPOSED CORNER (hooray for call backs!) right as Red Shoes recovers. Darkness Falls by EVIL 1…2…NO! EVIL tries for his finish, but Sabre counters into a European Clutch for the shock 3! Liger loses his mind as Togo & EVIL plead to Red Shoes that it was 2. I hate ref bumps & interference, but this made sense and how it was done was perfect. I dug it.
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Tetsuya Naito Slow back & forth to start, as you know this is going to be a grind (in a good way) as Tana takes Naito down with a leg lock, but Naito got the ropes & went outside. Naito got back in & did his rolling taunt & pose, which Tana tried to hit a somersault senton, but Naito rolled away & Tana went outside. They take turns slamming each other into the railing, but Naito explodes out & hits Tana with a running kick & they tease a countout. Back inside, Naito works the leg & hits a neckbreaker before slapping on a crucifix submission. Rope break allows Naito to hit a snap dropkick to the neck for 2 as Naito hits a big boot, shoots Tana to the corner & tries for Combinacion, but Tana catches him into a spinning slam to recover. Forearms aplenty by The Ace, who hits a somersault senton off the second, then dragon screw to send Naito outside. With Naito outside, he hits a HIGH FLY FLOW crossbody off the top! They tease the double countout, but Tana hits Naito with multiple dragon screws in the ropes and wants a Cloverleaf, but Naito gets a cradle for 2. Tana charges & Naito plants him with a spinebuster for the double down. Naito sets him up in the corner & hits a top rope hurricanrana, but Tana rolls through 1…2…NO! Tana grabs the leg & hits two dragon screws then applies the Cloverleaf. Tana has this on for a long time before Naito finally gets the ropes. Naito tries his flying forearm, but Tana blocks into a straightjacket German for a super close 2. Crowd cheered loud for that spot as Tana went for Sling Blade, but Naito blocks into a Tornado DDT at the 20 minute call. Tana somehow manages a Sling Blade counter off a suplex attempt, but Naito countered a Michinoku Driver into a reverse DDT (not Destino). They slowly rise at the same time & we have a forearm exchange, neither gaining the upper hand, despite each throwing like 20 a piece. Tana slaps Naito, who hooks the wrist & back elbows Tana down repeatedly. Tana just crumbles as Naito wants Gloria and gets it for 2. He signals for the end, looking for Destino, but Tana gets THREE Twist & Shouts as Tana looks for Sling Blade, but Naito counters into a snap enzugiri. Tana blocks Destino into Sling Blade at the 25 minute call! Another Sling Blade hits flush as Tana goes up top High Fly Flow cross body connects, he jumps back up for a proper HIGH…FLY…NO, Naito moves & Tana crashes. Destino connects 1…2…KICK OUT!! He goes for it again, but Tana blocks it, only to get slapped & hit with Valentia! He drags Tana up with the 2 minute call left and hits DESTINOOOOO for the 3 count. Fuckin’ A, I know Naito is the champ & he’s great, but there’s not a better seller or storyteller in wrestling than Hiroshi Tanahashi. While Suzuki/Ishii was hard hitting the whole time, this match hit gears & almost went the time limit, which places it higher on the list for me.
B Block Standings 2 Points – Juice Robinson, Toru Yano, KENTA, Zack Sabre Jr, Tetsuya Naito 0 Points – YOSHI-HASHI, SANADA, Hirooki Goto, EVIL, Hiroshi Tanahashi

Night 3 Jeff Cobb vs. Shingo Takagi Chop battle ensues early, with Shingo hitting a shoulder tackle, but Cobb answers with a dropkick. Shingo avoids a suplex, tries for a whip, but Cobb is built like a refrigerator & overhead suplexes Shingo down. He controls Shingo in the corner & hits a leaping back elbow and stalling back suplex for 2. Shingo wiggles out of a powerslam & they trade forearms, but it’s Shingo who drops Cobb with a hard lariat. The third try finally gets Shingo his suplex for 2, as he tries a sliding lariat, but Cobb blocks it. Shingo settles for a snap exploder suplex & hard corner clothesline. They exchange exploder suplexes & start a headbutt/forearm/striking battle. Shingo wants a Pumping Bomber, but Cobb turns him inside out with a lariat. Tour of the Islands blocked into Noshigami as Shingo murders Cobb with a Pumping Bomber 1…2…NO! Last of the Dragon attempt, but Cobb turns it into rolling gut wrench suplexes, ending with a powerbomb for 2. Standing moonsault gets another 2 as Shingo spins out of a fireman’s carry into a DDT. He wears Cobb out with strikes & a sliding lariat, then tries for Made in Japan and gets it 1…2…KICK OUT! Shingo tries for Last of the Dragon, but Cobb gets free. Shingo throws multiple lariats, but Cobb answers with a comeback German & Tour of the Islands for the 3. Hard hitting fun little match.
Kazuchika Okada vs. Yujiro Takahashi Clean break by Okada, but he knows Yujiro and cuts off the sneak attack attempt, only to get clotheslined to the floor, where he gets a neckbreaker out in the entrance way & running single leg dropkick. Back inside, it’s all Yujiro and it’s a super slow pace with a Helluva Kick & bodyslam for 2 as he slaps on a rest hold. Okada fights back with an uppercut & plants Yujiro with a DDT as he bails outside. Okada then connects with a plancha! Back inside, Yujiro avoids an Air Raid Crash, hits another Helluva Kick, then Fisherman’s Buster for 2. Okada slips out of Miami Shine & they have a forearm exchange and Okada hits his dropkick and Tombstone as he tries Money Clip, but Yujiro bites the hand. He counters into an Angle Slam, tries for Pimp Juice, but settles for Miami Shine for 2. Okada avoids the DDT & hits a big boot, uppercut, charges & Yujiro drops him with a lariat. Okada reverses a whip, misses his dropkick & Yujiro tries Pimp Juice, but Okada counters into a Rainmaker, then slaps on the Money Clip for the submission. This was pretty damn boring for the most part, the quietest Okada match you’ll ever hear. Yeah there were a few near falls, but zero people bit, because it’s Yujiro. Aside from the Yano match, this was the weakest tournament match thus far.
Minoru Suzuki vs. Taichi Battle of the Suzuki-gun members, as they do a ref bump spot early and both grab chairs. They swing at each other & it’s Suzuki who wins that battle, murdering Taichi with a chair shot to the back outside. He chokes Taichi with the chair & the two start trash talking each other as Suzuki straight up floors Taichi with forearms. Suzuki just starts walking all around the floor, looking for something, I think stalling for the ref to recover, as he grabs a chair to bring back in & the ref wrestles the chair away, so Suzuki throws him down again. Taichi cracks him with the microphone stand & we go outside where Taichi gets control & revenge. He chokes Suzuki with the cable cord & Suzuki’s facial expressions for this are priceless. He grabs a chair & smacks Suzuki up the ramp, choking him with it. You know this is serious Taichi, he took his pants off with zero theatrics. Back inside, Taichi just starts toying with Suzuki, then hits Kawada Kicks that wakes up Suzuki, who smiles at his opponent. Taichi gets turned into a mannequin off a Suzuki forearm, but Taichi fights back with an Axe Bomber and jumping kick. Both slow to get up as Suzuki ducks a boot, slaps on the Rear Naked Choke, spins him around for the Gotch, but Taichi turns it into a suplex, another jump kick. He runs for an Axe Bomber, but Suzuki catches him into the Choke, tries the Gotch, they do a lot of counters, ending with Taichi hitting Black Mephisto for the 3!! Taichi defeats the leader of his faction! Yes the first 5-7 minutes were on the floor brawling, but I was fine with it, both are dastardly heels, willing to do anything to win, even to their running buddy. Ultimately the student overcame the teacher clean too.
Tomohiro Ishii vs. Will Ospreay We go from a Suzuki-gun battle to CHAOS members colliding. They trade a bunch of counters early; with Ospreay slapping Ishii and that only pisses him off, so we have a chop exchange in the corner. I’ll give you a guess who won that one. Ishii beats the hell out of Ospreay, who foolishly keeps slapping Ishii in the face. It’s like Ishii can’t believe Ospreay is trying this shit, but it works, as Ospreay gets him off his game & hits his handspring kick. Cool atomic drop, kick, leg sweep, standing shooting star combo as Ospreay caps it with Pip Pip Cheerio & toys with Ishii with soft kicks, forearms & slaps. Ishii starts walking through the forearms & drops Will, who hangs Ishii up on the top rope. Tries for a springboard double stomp, misses & hits a springboard dropkick on Ishii on the apron, knocking him outside. Sasuke Special misses, Will lands on his feet, tries a moonsault off the apron into a neckbreaker, but Ishii counters, tries a brianbuster, Will sends him into the railing & hits a springing Oscutter off the railing! Amazing! Ishii beats the count at 19, rolls right into a springboard dropkick for a 2 count. Ospreay up top, but he gets crotched and Ishii hits an uppercut headbutt (that’s right) & superplex. Forearm battle turns into Counter-Palooza with a wall walk into a sliding D counter into Hidden Blade counter into lariat counter, ending with an Ospreay hook kick & head kick. Oscutter avoided & Ishii folds him up with a forearm. Powerbomb folds Ospreay up for 2, as does the sliding D. Brainbuster blocked, but the release German isn’t as Ishii charges, but Ospreay hits a standing Spanish Fly for 2. Oscutter connects 1…2…NO! He tries for a super Oscutter off the top, Ishii blocks, Will hits a Hook Kick, but Ishii eats it & levels Will with a lariat. Ospreay floats over a lariat & hits a sit out powerbomb for 2. Storm Breaker avoided as Ishii hits an enzugiri & turns Ospreay inside out with a lariat for 2. Ospreay knees out of a brainbuster, but gets starched with a headbutt. Ospreay counters a brainbuster into Stundog Millionaire & reverse rana. Ishii pops up, eats a Roaring Elbow & Ospreay hits a Jay Driller 1…2…KICK OUT!! Hidden Blade connects flush, then Storm Breaker for the 3 count. HOLY SHIT, this match! This was incredible.
Kota Ibushi vs. Jay White White tries to goad the crowd into chanting for Ibushi on the mic, knowing full well they aren’t allowed to chant, so Ibushi wipes him out with a plancha. White snaps the leg through the ropes through and mocks the crowd again. He slams Ibushi back first into the railing repeatedly, then targets the leg. Ibushi mounts the comeback back inside with a bunch of kicks & standing moonsault and snap powerslam. He tries a springboard moonsault off the second, but sells the leg and White hits a Blade Buster for 2. High angle German drops Ibushi on his head, but Ibushi fights back. White picks the bad leg & dragon screws it down. Ibushi kicks free with the good leg & nails a snap German to allow him to recover a bit. Each time Ibushi tries to grab White, he’d kick away at the bad leg. Switchblade rolls to the apron & Ibushi tries his crazy German, but Gedo holds the leg and White snaps Ibushi’s leg through the ropes. Uranage connects for a 2 count as you can hear Gedo scream for KIWI as White tries a Kiwi Crusher, but Ibushi counters into a reverse Crunchy! White starts throwing forearms, but Ibushi no sells them, avoids the leg attack & turns White inside out with a lariat. Switchblade counters a German into his own, but Ibushi answers with a snap Dragon. Ibushi signals for Bomaye, almost runs into a Blade Runner, but spins out into a high head kick. Dragon screws by Switchblade, who slaps on a reverse figure four & Ibushi slowly crawls to the ropes. Sleeper suplex connects, but Ibushi rolls through it & hits a running knee with the good leg. Last Ride powerbomb connects 1…2…NO! White got his shoulder up by like a millimeter as he barely lifted his arm to kick out. It is dead silent as White gets up and throws forearms that have zero effect. Ibushi murders White with one of his own & hits a Buzzsaw Kick. He wants Kamigoye, but Gedo pops up on the apron, allowing White to hit the low blow with Red Shoes turned. Leglock suplex with a bridge gets a close 2, as White goes for a suplex, Ibushi fights out & hits V-Trigger, then punts Gedo off the apron. He signals for Kamigoye, but White surprises him with a Blade Runner for the 3! 99.9% of this match was awesome, as the Gedo shit right at the end was dumb, but its Switchblade, so we’re getting that in every match, I know that. I did like the Blade Runner coming out of nowhere though.
A Block Standings 4 Points – Will Ospreay, Jay White, Taichi 2 Points –Minoru Suzuki, Kota Ibushi, Kazuchika Okada, Jeff Cobb 0 Points – Yujiro Takahashi, Tomohiro Ishii, Shingo Takagi

Night 4 Hirooki Goto vs. SANADA SANADA fakes a dive & does a moonsault, but lands on his feet outside. Goto misses a lariat & smacks the post instead. Back inside, SANADA tries a standing moonsault, Goto moves, but SANADA lands on his feet & snap dropkicks Goto in the neck. Goto fights back with a back suplex, wheel kick & running bulldog, as SANADA does his leap frogs & dropkick that sends Goto outside, where SANADA nails a plancha. Misdirection spot back inside ends with Skull End applied, but Goto gets a rope break. Goto back up & connects with a discus lariat, but it hurts his bad arm. They reverse GTR/Skull End attempts, then trade sleepers, resulting in a super close near fall for Goto, then one for SANADA. Both get up and SANADA connects with a Ushigoroshi, taking a page out of the Goto playbook. Ego Trip neckbreaker, but SANADA misses the top rope moonsault follow up. Slow to get up, Goto hits a draping reverse GTR for 2, headbutts SANADA & hits a perfect Ushigoroshi/GTR combo looking move. Goto then punts SANADA down & hits a proper GTR for the 3. This match went about 10 minutes, but never got a chance to hit a gear or get much of a story going, which was unfortunate. It was good, but could’ve been a lot better if given more time.
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Toru Yano Yano demands Tana chase him at the ramp, but Tana isn’t falling for it. Yano gets in the ring and actually wrestles Tana, doing a bunch of counters for about 30 seconds, then says fuck this and tries to untie the buckle pad. Tana goes to untie one, but doesn’t get it untied as fast as Yano does. He tosses Tana the pad & Tana plays air guitar, then tosses it back to Yano, who fakes air guitar, swings & Tana hits a dragon screw using the pad for Yano to bump outside. He drags Tana to the floor & gets his brawl up the ramp. They’re at the top of the entrance throwing forearms before Yano rakes the eyes at 14, sprints back to the ring, but Tana beats the count at 18. Yano immediately rolls Tana up for a 2 count, as Tana fires out of the corner with a flying forearm. Somersault senton off the second for another 2 as he dragon screws Yano outside again. Tana misses a plancha & Yano grabs some tape, which Tana quickly gains control of, TAPING YANO’S EYES SHUT! We have an impromptu Blindfold Match on our hands. Yano beats the count at 19, feeling around for the apron as Tana hits a Twist & Shout. He goes for Sling Blade, but Yano pulls the ref in front of him & they both duck Tana. Yano punts Tana low, rolls him up for the 3 count!! The King of Pro Wrestling is now 2-0, while Hiroshi Tanahashi is 0-2.
Juice Robinson vs. KENTA I’ve determined Juice Robinson looks like the long lost buff Lawrence brother. There’s Joey Lawrence (WHOA!), Matthew Lawrence, the other one & then Juice. KENTA rolls to the floor after an early back & forth, suckers Juice to the edge of the ring & hangs him up, hitting a springboard knee drop to take control. KENTA already has rest holds locked on repeatedly. He’d hit a single move like a neckbreaker or kick in between holds, but this is super slow. We’re 5 minutes in already and it’s been 90% rest holds from KENTA. Juice thankfully back suplexes out of one of them & starts throwing jabs & a DDT for 2. KENTA counters Juice Box into a snap powerslam. I did love KENTA trying to throw the crowd off in their clapping sequence & it seemed to work, as he hits a Tornado hot shot & clothesline off the top for 2. Juice answers with a flap jack & axe kick as they trade corner lariats, with Juice winning that battle as he hits a cannonball for 2. Juice goes for a superplex, but KENTA fights out, headbutts Juice down & hits a shotgun dropkick. Shibata dropkick in the corner, then the double stomp off the top for 2. Juice ducks the busaiku knee & both have a forearm battle (legit, probably the stiffest forearm I’ve ever seen Juice throw), but KENTA fires back with fists, only for Juice to hit a hard lariat & Juice Box for 2. Juice tries Pulp Friction but KENTA school boys out for 2, then starts slapping the shit out of Juice until he collapses. They trade counters to their finishers before Juice hits multiple Hands of God punches & Pulp Friction for the 3. Second half was good stuff, but the first half was brutally slow. There’s slow for the sake of heel heat and then there’s boring directionless slow, which the first half was. Once this got going, it was a lot better, Juice looking impressive so far. He wins the Battle of Guys Who Should’ve Had Better Careers In NXT.
YOSHI-HASHI vs. EVIL EVIL tries attacking with a chair, but YOSHI was ready with his stick, destroying EVIL with forearms in the corner. EVIL soon takes the ref & Dick Togo (who is dressed like he’s in a Boyz II Men video) attacks YOSHI on the outside. EVIL teases his chair spot, but Red Shoes refuses to get distracted by Togo, so he opts to suplex him on the chairs instead (those chairs just miraculously showed up on the floor, I guess?). YOSHI tries fighting back in the ring, but EVIL works the back and gets multiple near falls. They trade suplex attempts & it’s YOSHI who gets it as he follows up with the Headhunter. YH baseball dropkicks Togo down and hangs EVIL up in the ropes, dropkicking him down for 2. He takes way too much time going to the top & EVIL crotches him, hitting a superplex for 2. EVIL sends YOSHI into the exposed buckle twice & hits Darkness Falls for a close 2. YOSHI avoids EVIL’s finish, sending EVIL into the exposed buckle as payback & hits a hook kick for the double down. YOSHI hits a lariat & brainbuster for 2 as he slaps on the Butterfly Lock. Togo gets on the apron to cause the break, but YOSHI sends EVIL colliding into him before sinking back in the submission. He transitioned into a kimura, but EVIL got the ropes. EVIL tried to get a ref bump, but he didn’t go down (which is amazing considering you could tap these refs with a feather and they’d be down for 10 minutes) so he just hit a brutal lariat on YOSHI for the double down. Both men slowly up, YOSHI hits a snap dragon & meteora, as he goes up top, hitting his Swanton for 2. Commentary is super into this as EVIL grabbed the ref, allowing Togo to try & choke out YOSHI, but he powered out & levels Togo. YOSHI with a spin kick & lariat turning EVIL inside out 1…2…NO! YOSHI goes for Karma, but EVIL sends him into the ref, but he puts the brakes on. EVIL gets a low blow & Everything is EVIL for the 3 count. Despite the bullshit finish (which we expect in EVIL matches), this was the best YOSHI-HASHI match I’ve seen in a long time. This match actually ruled.
Tetsuya Naito vs. Zack Sabre Jr. Naito slides the double titles in & Sabre steps on them both, pretty much wiping his feet with them. They work Sabre’s style early on with chain wrestling & counters aplenty. Zack grabs a body part & works on it, but Naito would escape AND REPEAT. There’s boring rest holds like we got in the start of the KENTA match and then there’s Sabre, who actually makes them mean something. ZSJ shoves Naito against the ropes & with his back turned, mocks the LIJ pose before going back to work on the arm. Naito was done with the games as he hits a snap rana sending Sabre outside & does his LIJ pose, which Sabre quickly gets in & cradles Naito for 2. He does this two more times & Naito realizes he needs to slow it down with a leg lock around the neck & Sabre gets the ropes. They do a series of counters that ends in Sabre getting a neck crank with his feet as he boots Naito off the apron into the railing. Back inside, he wraps Naito up like a pretzel before Naito gets another rope break, tries his Combinacion, but Sabre leg sweeps & Naito falls outside once more. Sabre takes over with submissions inside, but Naito fights back hitting Combinacion Cabron for 2. He locks on a crucifix with his legs & Sabre gets the ropes. Sabre hits a Tornado DDT that drops Naito flush on his head, I mean fucking right on the top at the 15 minute call. Sabre locks in a diving triangle choke, but Naito crawled to the ropes. Zack throws uppercuts, but Naito catches the boot, hangs him up in the ropes & hits a draping neckbreaker out to the floor that does damage to both men. Back inside, hard elbows by Naito, who hits a top rope rana, which Sabre pops up from & throws uppercut. Naito cuts him off with his Tornado DDT for 2, then wraps Sabre up in a Pluma Blanca submission, but Zack gets the ropes. Naito looks for Gloria, but Sabre snaps the arm, only for Naito to hit an enzugiri. He tries for the flying forearm, but runs right into the Octopus Hold (or Hurrah! Another Year, Surely This One Will Be Better Than the Last; The Inexorable March of Progress Will Lead Us All to Happiness!) as Naito starts fading, but luckily gets the ropes. 25 minute call as we get a forearm exchange, but it turns into counters of each other’s finishers, as Naito hits Destino, goes for another, but Zack hits the Zack Driver! He can’t follow up though, as he locks in a guillotine choke, lets it go & tries for Zack Driver again, Naito blocks, but Zack nearly gets the European Clutch for 1…2…NO! 3 minutes left as Zack avoids a Koppo Kick & gets another near fall. Zack Driver countered into Destino 1…2…NO!! 2 minutes left as Naito signals for the end & hits another Destinoooooooo 1…2…3! I loved this match; it had everything, except a fire crowd that chanted, which is really unfortunate. These two work great together and Naito has looked phenomenal these first two matches.
B Block Standings 4 Points – Juice Robinson, Toru Yano, Tetsuya Naito 2 Points –KENTA, Zack Sabre Jr, Hirooki Goto, EVIL 0 Points – YOSHI-HASHI, SANADA, Hiroshi Tanahashi

Night 5 Taichi vs. Yujiro Takahashi The only match this entire block I was dreading. They traded weapon shots & spent the first 5 minutes taking turns choking each other. Yujiro hit a reverse DDT on the floor & fisherman’s buster for 2. He tries for Miami Shine, but Taichi raked the eyes & hit a leaping corner kick. Taichi cracked Yujiro right in the jaw with a Buzzsaw Kick for 2, tries for powerbomb, but Yujiro bit at the hands, while Taichi raked the eyes with his free hand. They have a forearm exchange that Yujiro wins, then flattens Taichi with a lariat. Taichi tries a surprise thrust kick, but Yujiro turns it into an Angle Slam. He’s too slow to follow up and Taichi gets a Saito suplex for the double down. Axe Bomber gets a super close 2, as the britches come off Taichi at the 10 minute mark. He misses a superkick & Yujiro hits Miami Shine for 2. Yujiro misses Pimp Juice, Taichi shoves the ref down & gets a low blow and roll up for the win. First 5 minutes were boring, but the second half was ok (which, considering the pairing, would be considered really good for others). Hoping the wheels fall off for Taichi soon, I can’t believe he’s the first person to 6 points.
Jeff Cobb vs. Minoru Suzuki Almost immediately Suzuki lays on his back & dares Cobb to wrestle him. Cobb hangs with him for a bit, even finding himself on top of Suzuki, who promptly picked an ankle & Cobb got the ropes. Stiff chops by Cobb, who misses a corner splash & Suzuki locks on the arm bar through the ropes as we go outside where Suzuki starts his murder rampage. Cobb beats the count at 16 and rolls back into punishment & Suzuki boots and punts for only a 1 count. Cobb ducks a boot & hits a few shoulder blocks, corner splash & leaping corner uppercut, capped by a running back suplex for 2. They start a forearm exchange & Suzuki laughs to start, then drops Cobb with a violent one. Cobb hits a dropkick, charges & Suzuki does a misdirection momentarily, but Cobb literally does what Vader used to do & just run through his opponent. Cobb tries the revolution gut wrenches, but only gets one suplex as Suzuki fights out. Cobb powers Suzuki up into an Oklahoma Stampede out of the corner & standing moonsault for 2. Tour of the Islands blocked into a Rear Naked Choke, transitioned into the Gotch Piledriver and Suzuki wins it. Hard hitting, fun wrestling, fun counters, wish it went longer though (fucking Yujiro & Taichi went longer). I loved after the match, Suzuki got the crowd to clap along to his theme, then got to the top of the ramp & held his ear up wanting to hear the crowd chant Kaze Ni Nare, but they can’t (and he knows it), so he just smirks as he went to the back.
Kota Ibushi vs. Tomohiro Ishii HOLY SHIT, THIS MATCH! Just getting one out of the way now because I assume I’m going to type that later. They trade clean breaks in the ropes to start, but Ishii misses a chop & Ibushi misses a high kick. They trade counters & misdirection, but Ibushi connects with the first strikes of the match & we have a face off that turns into a forearm war, which Ishii wins as he fires brutal chops. Ibushi throws 5 forearms in response, but Ishii stares at him and 1 chop drops Ibushi. He starts kicking Ibushi so much that he rises, throws forearms & Ishii eats those as well, so he drops him with a frankensteiner. Combo by Ibushi leads to a standing moonsault for 2. The chop/kick battle that ensues is incredible as its Ishii who miraculously backs off first, clutching his chest that Ibushi keeps punting. Ishii rises & Ibushi hits a snap powerslam and missile dropkick, but Ishii rolls through to his feet & hits a snap powerslam of his own. Ibushi no sells it & hits a snap German, ISHII NO SELLS, snap German by Ishii, IBUSHI NO SELLS, Ishii charges & Ibushi hits a snap dropkick for the double down. They’re both on their backs & start kicking each other in the head, which leads to a slap battle as they are fucking each other up with palm strikes. It gets to a crazy level & Ibushi finally drops Ishii, who rises & starts the throat chops. The ref tries to stop him, but Ishii throws him down & goes back after Ibushi, who goes into a sort of trance & PUNCHES ISHII IN THE THROAT then hits a high kick and Last Ride powerbomb for 2. Ishii gets up & murders Ibushi with a headbutt, then hits a lariat for 2. Ishii wants his brainbuster, but Ibushi fights out, tries Kamigoye, but Ishii pulls up into a headbutt, then a Sliding D 1…2…NO! Ibushi hits a Pele Kick, then actually hits Ishii with his own brainbuster finisher!! Ibushi charges for a Bomaye, but Ishii turns him inside out with a lariat. Ibushi flips out of a German, hits a Bomaye 1…2…NO!! Ibushi folds Ishii up with a lariat, hits a V-Trigger, then the Kamigoye for the 1…2…3!! HOLY SHIT, THIS MATCH!! (told you) They beat the living shit out of each other and for that, I’m forever grateful. Even after the match, Ishii, while on his stomach, has to be restrained, as he’s still trying to throw punches. Unbelievable.
Will Ospreay vs. Shingo Takagi Well, if there were any two in this tournament that could follow what we just saw, it’s these two, who had arguably Match of the Year in 2019 in their Best of Super Juniors final. I’m just going to say, they countered like 87 different moves to start and I’m not going to begin to type them all out. These two are fast, you know that. Ospreay knocks Shingo outside & does his backflip taunt in the middle of the ring as Shingo regroups. Ospreay starts a few Kawada Kicks inside, does a stalling dropkick, as he looks for a plancha outside, lands on his feet, sending Shingo into the railing. He charges & Shingo hits a pop up DVD! Hot shot back inside, followed by a DDT, as Shingo works the neck in a cravat to slow things down. They start a chop exchange, which Shingo thinks he won, as he shoots Ospreay off the ropes & Will does his handspring wheel kick into a double down. Enzugiri, atomic drop, standing shooting star gets Ospreay 2, who goes to the apron & tries Pip, Pip Cheerio, Shingo avoids, but not the wall walk, as Ospreay charges & Shingo turns him inside out with a lariat. Noshigami countered, but Shingo hits a dragon screw & sliding lariat for 2. Ospreay regains control with Pip, Pip Cheerio, then a Sasuke Special perfectly outside. He hangs Shingo up in the Tree of Woe & does a Coast to Coast dropkick!! He flattens Shingo with a reverse DDT for 2, then goes up top, Shooting Star Press 1…2…KICK OUT! Oscutter attempt is countered into Noshigami as both men are down! They start throwing forearms, Ospreay tries a handspring again, but Shingo catches him into a Burning Hammer, but he hangs Ospreay up on the ropes. Pumping Bomber attempt countered into a float over Last Ride 1…2…NO! Oscutter connects flush for 1…2…NO! Hook Kick by Ospreay, who looks for Storm Breaker, but Shingo floats over & hits Made in Japan 1…2…KICK OUT! Shingo absolutely annihilates Ospreay with a Pumping Bomber for 2, as he looks for Last of the Dragon, but Ospreay gets out, hits the Hook Kick & poison rana! He looks for a discus lariat, but they both collide heads and we have another double down. They’re on their knees & start headbutting each other, then to their feet with forearms, as Shingo hits a lariat, Ospreay hits a standing Spanish Fly, Shingo pops up & Ospreay pops him with a lariat for ANOTHER reset! Ospreay wants Hidden Blade, Shingo ducks, eats an Ospreay hook kick & roaring elbow, but Ospreay doesn’t cover him, he tries for a super Oscutter, but Shingo cuts him off. He folds Ospreay up off the top with a lariat, then goes to the second rope for a spinning DVD for 2! Pumping Bomber turns Will inside out 1…2…KICK OUT!! Last of the Dragon connects for the 1…2…3!! This is the match of the tournament thus far to me. They’re also 1 win a piece, so we’re getting a rubber match down the line.
Kazuchika Okada vs. Jay White Either of the last two matches should’ve main evented, but it’s Okada, so I get it. It’s just Okada hasn’t been the same this year & is the one who is hurt the most by not having a crowd chant during matches. I was also on this wrestling high and now the bell sounds for this and its Switchblade stalling, so my high is gone. White mocks the Okada clean break he usually does, so Okada fires off a forearm & big boots White to the floor, where Gedo attacks. The race is on as Switchblade attacks Okada back inside for like 5 seconds before going to the floor again into the railing repeatedly. Okada in at 17 as White works the back for the next few minutes. Okada ultimately fights back with a flapjack for our first double down. Gedo trips him and Okada stalks him up the ramp. White follows, but Okada lays out both with a double DDT on the ramp as we head inside. Okada can’t get an Air Raid Crash due to the back, so White hits an atomic drop/DDT combo. He folds Okada up with a suplex into the corner for 2, then a Blade Buster connects for another near fall. White takes too long to follow up and Okada is able to his the Air Raid Crash for a reset. Forearm battle wakes Okada up, as White is flattened & he tells the ref his arm is going numb, but it’s a ploy. Okada has it scouted, Gedo gets knocked from the apron, Okada goes for, but misses his dropkick. White hits a release German as Gedo screams for the Kiwi Crusher, but changes his mind and screams for a Rainmaker. White does the pose, tries it, but Okada boots out & hits his dropkick. Tombstone connects as he slaps on Money Clip (the crowd doesn’t give a shit about this finisher for Okada and neither do I, it sucks), but White gets the ropes. Okada wants another Tombstone, but White floats over & hits a Uranage for a reset. They both rise, trade a bunch of counters, as Gedo runs in the ring, gets dropped, Okada locks on Money Clip again, but White gets a thumb to the eye. Okada hits a spinning lariat, back to the fucking Money Clip a third time as Gedo throws something at the ref, who turns & White low blows Okada. Blade Runner blocked into, I shit you not, the fucking Money Clip a 4th time, which White gets out, hits a snap German & Blade Runner for the 3 count! Ok, I don’t know what I hate more, Bullet Club constant interference or that fucking Money Clip. It sucks so much and it takes me out of Okada matches. He’s just not the same, I’m sorry. I didn’t care for this match.
A Block Standings 6 Points – Jay White, Taichi 4 Points – Will Ospreay, Minoru Suzuki, Kota Ibushi 2 Points – Kazuchika Okada, Jeff Cobb, Shingo Takagi 0 Points – Yujiro Takahashi, Tomohiro Ishii

Night 6 YOSHI-HASHI vs. SANADA Mat work to start by YOSHI, who turns it on briefly, clotheslining SANADA to the floor, but SANADA responds with an Ego Trip draping neckbreaker off the railing! We head inside & SANADA gets 2 off a back elbow, then applies a chin lock. YH gets free & they struggle with suplex attempts that ends in YOSHI hitting a neckbreaker. YH gets a few chops & hits the Headhunter, getting the crowd going. He drapes SANADA on the ropes & hits a snap dropkick for 2. Leap frogs, dropkick, plancha outside combo by SANADA, who regains control. Back inside SANADA hits a hurricanrana, hits the ropes, but YOSHI pops up and lays him out with a lariat & running Liger Bomb for 2. YOSHI goes up for his Swanton, but SANADA gets the knees up. They slowly get up & SANADA does the backflip out of the corner into Skull End. When I say he barely has it on, I mean YOSHI literally has to reposition himself to make the move look better. He finally gets free & SANADA gets it locked in properly. He lets it go, tries the moonsault, but YOSHI gets his knees up this time & we have a reset. Forearm battle, but SANADA hits the TKO for 2, going back to Skull End, which YOSHI rolls out of & hits a Snap Dragon. Fisherman’s Suplex connects for a close 2, he goes for Karma, but SANADA floats into the spinning Skull End, YOSHI gets a small package 1…2…NO! YOSHI fights off the onslaught & hits a Meteora 1…2…NO! Karma connects 1…2…3!! YOSHI wins! The first half of this match felt slow and had barely any urgency (I know we’re only on Night 6, but you know what I mean), but it really picked up the second half to make this a very solid match.
Zack Sabre Jr. KENTA KENTA almost immediately tries to pull guard, but Zack gets an ankle pick, so KENTA grabs the ropes & heads outside. Zack tries pulling guard, but KENTA doesn’t fall for it & just starts kicking the shit out of Zack, who gets fed up, hooks a leg and again KENTA goes to the ropes. KENTA again goes to the kicks & hits a neckbreaker for 2, then Sabre dares KENTA to kick him, hands behind his back & KENTA drops him (why ask for that ZSJ??). Front face lock that Zack spins out of into a kimura, but he uppercuts KENTA, who fucking slaps the holy hell out of Zack, turning him into a mannequin. He tries for a suplex, but Zack spins out, leg sweep & punt. Corner uppercut, but KENTA walks through it like a zombie, he’s just eating uppercuts, so Zack hits a Northern Lights into a kimura, but KENTA gets the ropes. Tornado Hot Shot & top rope diving clothesline gets KENTA 2 as he once more lights up ZSJ with kicks & hits a Fisherman’s Buster for 2. STF applied, but Zack gets the ropes and we get an uppercut/forearm battle that turns into big boots, which ends in KENTA turning Zack inside out with a lariat. He hits a kitchen sink knee & folds Zack up with a GTS for the win. This was a weird match, I liked the start, but KENTA’s matches go at such a slow pace it sort of brings it down in a way. The striking in this match was excellent, don’t get me wrong, but I was just expecting more, especially for the G1.
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Juice Robinson They trade hammerlocks early & do a fast paced back & forth before we get to our stalemate. Juice is able to hit with his Axe Kick & leaping senton for 2, then a spinebuster for another near fall. Full Nelson applied by Juice, but Tana slowly rises, so Juice releases to chop Tana in the ropes. Tana dropkicks & dragon screws the leg, but Juice kicks Tana into the corner, who bounces out & Robinson nails another spinebuster. He gets the crowd into it & starts his jabs, hitting a DDT, which Tanahashi sells like he’s Rob Van Dam (perfectly) to get a 2. Juice wastes too much time getting the crowd to keep clapping, so when he tries a suplex, Tana turns it into Twist & Shout. He tries a flying forearm, but flies into a Full Nelson, then lariat by Juice. Corner cannonball as Juice is really too preoccupied getting the crowd to do the We Will Rock You clap (every time they stop, he tries to get them going again). He sets Tana in the corner for a superplex, but Tana fights out with forearms. Juice doesn’t fall though, gets a headbutt & hits a big superplex, which Juice holds on to & hits a JACKHAMMER out of it 1…2…NO! If Juice Robinson slowly starts incorporating Bill Goldberg moves like this, I’ll be a fan forever. Straps come down & Juice calls for the finish, hopefully a Spear or weird rolling leg lock, but it’s Pulp Friction, which Tana avoids into a Sling Blade. He hits another one for 2, then goes up top for High Fly Flow cross body, but Juice rolls through 1…2…KICK OUT! Juice with a Left Hand of God, looks for Pulp Friction, Tana spins out into a roll up 1…2…3! Tana gets his first points! This was a really fun back & forth that was controlled by Juice more so than Tanahashi. Juice hung tough & I was really impressed by his performance here. I want to see this match again down the line.
Toru Yano vs. EVIL They quickly both go to untie the buckle pads & Yano is a pro, so he does it quicker, smacking EVIL. Togo runs distraction as EVIL attacks from behind & sends him to the floor, where Yano fights back, taping Togo to the railing. EVIL attacks, but Yano sends him into the railing & grabs more tape. They take turns trying to tie one another to the railing, but both give up & beat the count. Yano is sent into all 4 exposed corners for a 2 count, then he sends EVIL chest first into it. Togo finally puts the padding back on one & EVIL bounces out, clotheslines Yano down & hits a Fisherman’s Buster for 2. EVIL looks for his finish, but Yano sends him into the ref, LOW BLOW by Yano, LOW BLOW by Togo, who tries to choke out Yano, LOW BLOW by YANO, he sends Togo colliding into EVIL, DOUBLE LOW BLOW by Yano, school boy 1…2…3!! Yano remains undefeated and his last 4 pinfalls have come against EVIL, Tanahashi, SANADA and a 3 way where he pinned Okada. Toru Yano is The King of Pro Wrestling!
Hirooki Goto vs. Tetsuya Naito It’s always weird how silent it is when Naito takes what seems like 45 minutes to remove his 90 articles of clothing before the match begins. Both men trade headlocks & reversals to start as Naito wrenches the arm & hits a snap dropkick to it that sends Goto outside. Naito after him & he again targets the arm, sending Goto into the railing. Goto beats the count at 19, then Naito turns his attention to the neck, with a head scissors & stiff forearms to the side of the neck. Goto kicks out of the corner, hitting a Saito suplex for the reset as he’s clutching his arm. Running corner bulldog gets 2, as Naito counters about 4 straight moves before hitting a snap dropkick to the neck. Naito went for Combinacion, but Goto didn’t go down off the foot sweep, which Naito caught, into a dragon screw & head scissors submission applied as Goto gets the ropes. Naito just slams Goto repeatedly into the corner & goes to the second for a rana, but Goto slides out, tries a superplex and gets it off the top rope! Naito rolls to the floor off the impact, but Goto follows him with a plancha! Back inside, Goto up top with an elbow to the midsection for a near fall. Misdirect spot ends with Goto turning Naito inside out with a lariat, as he looks to do it again, but Naito counters into his step up Tornado DDT for another reset. Naito gets wrist control & starts slowly hitting back elbows to the neck until Goto crumbles. Naito hits the corner hurricanrana & waits for Goto to get up, he tries Destino, but spins right into a reverse GTR! Draping reverse GTR off the top rope gets a 2 count, as he tries a proper one, but Naito spins out. Goto tries a Ushigoroshi, but Naito hits a DESTINO IN MID AIR! Both men slowly get to their feet, throwing forearms at each other along the way. Naito hits an enzugiri, but Goto pops a Ushigoroshi to drop Naito at the 20 minute mark. Naito surprises Goto with a Destino variation, but he didn’t get all of it, for a 2 count. He tries a proper one, but Goto counters with a GTW! He measures Naito with a violent kick to the chest, looks for GTR, but Naito counters with a perfect DESTINOOOOOOOO for the 3 count. I tell you what, everyone talks about how great of a seller Ishii & Tanahashi are, but Hirooki Goto flies under the radar and doesn’t get nearly enough respect for his selling ability. Naito targeted the neck/shoulder early and Goto always sold it, no matter what. I love that; it’s something that’s lost. This was a great main event to the show & unfortunately, this will probably be one of those matches that gets lost in the shuffle in terms of great G1 matches this year.
B Block Standings 6 Points – Toru Yano, Tetsuya Naito 4 Points – Juice Robinson, KENTA 2 Points –Zack Sabre Jr, Hirooki Goto, EVIL, YOSHI-HASHI, Hiroshi Tanahashi 0 Points –SANADA

Maybe the new head will be more flexible with the AEW/NJPW working relationship? I can't think of a single downside for either company to develop a flexible working relationship.

The only reason wrestling partnerships don't work is trust. Tony Khan seems like one of the most real guys ever. Like he wouldn't sleep at night if he did the kind of shit that happened during the Superclash days.

The only reason wrestling partnerships don't work is trust. Tony Khan seems like one of the most real guys ever. Like he wouldn't sleep at night if he did the kind of shit that happened during the Superclash days. It certainly benefits talent and fans alike. Not saying to have NJPW come in and steamroll AEW, but also not saying you treat New Japan like WWF did the WCW boobs during the Invasion either. You have booking that makes both groups strong and you slowly build towards a monster clash on PPV with both groups. Or you slow build certain matches and get more bang for your buck (I like that route more). Don't blow your stack on one show when you can do multiple shows. Having those two companies have a working relationship would be fantastic. Okada vs Kenny Mox vs Suzuki Cody vs Naito Ishii vs Brodie Jericho vs Tanahashi Jay White vs MJF Bucks vs Golden Lovers Toru Yano vs Orange Cassidy?? C'mon!!

Night 7 Minoru Suzuki vs. Yujiro Takahashi Every time I watch a Yujiro match, I hope that Pieter will return, but she’s nowhere to be found and it makes me sad. Bell sounds & they immediately trade big boots (5 to be exact) as Suzuki wins that, but Yujiro sends him outside. Suzuki crashes into the railing & Yujiro chokes him with his pimp cane and hits a snapmare/dropkick on the floor. Back inside, Yujiro fires off some strikes, but Suzuki just gets angry and takes the fight to the floor. Chair shot to the back & Suzuki tosses the ref down (I think he hurt the refs arm, no joke) & smacks Yujiro again, losing his shit. Finally back inside, Suzuki with the rear naked choke, but Yujiro hooks the leg, slams Suzuki down & hits another dropkick. Suzuki fights back with a front face lock, but Yujiro turns it into a Fisherman’s Buster for 2. Suzuki answers, just stomping & paint brushing Yujiro, who fires back with forearms. He foolishly dares Suzuki to throw forearms & he does, which crumbles Yujiro. He does flatten Suzuki with a lariat, tries Miami Shine, but Suzuki spins into the rear naked off a Pimp Juice attempt. He lets go & hits the Gotch piledriver for the 3. This was a better Yujiro match than expected, but it’s Suzuki, so of course it was solid.
Kota Ibushi vs. Jeff Cobb After a brief ground battle, it turns to striking quickly with Ibushi firing off kicks to the chest. Cobb hits a great dropkick for 2, then hits a few knees & uppercut to the lower back. He headbutts Ibushi down, but Kota just stares at him, shaking his head no, so Cobb just steamrolls over him. Ibushi floats over a corner attack, snap rana’s Cobb to the floor & he hits a pescado. Back inside, Ibushi misses a springboard, but wipes out the legs of Cobb anyway. More punts to the chest, but Cobb ducks one & hits a back suplex. Leaping corner uppercut, as Cobb grabs Ibushi’s legs, pulls him out into a spinning back suplex for 2, then a standing moonsault for 2! Cobb’s athleticism is fucking amazing. Ibushi fights off a lariat, but not the superkick, as he eats that, tries to throw a lariat, but Cobbs is built like a brick, so it has no effect. COBB TURNS IBUSHI INSIDE OUT WITH A LARIAT OF HIS OWN! Rolling gut wrench suplexes, then hits a spinning F5 that was insane 1…2…NO! He goes for Tour of the Islands, but Ibushi floats over, looks for Kamigoye, but Cobb gets out & Ibushi hits a V-Trigger, then Kamigoye for the 3 count. The best showing by Cobb thus far and I’m happy Ibushi bumped like crazy for him as Cobb, even in defeat, needed a strong showing like this. This was probably one of the best 10 minute matches you’ll see. I really liked this one a lot, just wish it got more time, had it went like 10 more minutes, this could’ve been a Top 5 match in the tournament thus far.
Kazuchika Okada vs. Taichi The opening 5 minutes was nothing but Taichi attacking the lower back of Okada, mainly on the outside. Finally Okada gets up & throws forearms after having taken some weak ass slaps & kicks from Taichi. Corner boot & running uppercut is the first string of moves Okada can put together as he hits a flying back elbow & leaping uppercut in the corner before hitting a DDT for 2. He sets Taichi up on in the corner & dropkicks him to the outside. Taichi again slams Okada into the railing, but Okada does the same & hits a DDT on the floor. Back inside, Okada goes for his missile dropkick & misses, landing right on his back. Tilt a whirl back breaker into a half crab as Taichi stomps on the neck in the process, but Okada gets the rope break. Okada avoids a Last Ride, but not the Kawada Kicks, as Taichi wants Last Ride, but Okada turns it into an Air Raid Crash. Okada leaps for a corner clothesline, but Taichi answers with an enzugiri. Buzzsaw kick connects and off come the britches, but he took too much time & Okada hits his dropkick. That damn Money Clip rears its ugly head, as Taichi counters into a Saito suplex. Third attempt for Last Ride is countered into a jumping Tombstone, then the Money Clip. Taichi started fading, but he turned it into a choke, as Okada grabbed the wrist & hit a Rainmaker. Okada wants a second one, but Taichi grabbed the ref & nearly caught Okada with a Gedo Clutch for 2. Jump kick enzugiri and a Rainmaker by Taichi! He tries for Black Mephisto, but Okada wiggles out and slaps on Money Clip the third time, but Taichi gets free. Black Mephisto attempt is turned into an Okada backbreaker & the Money Clip (FOUR FUCKING TIMES) is locked in and Taichi passes out. This was a good little match, but if Okada is going to force this fucking Money Clip, I’m at least happy he’s winning matches with it finally. That said, I hate that it takes him 4 times to finally get it to work. 1 and done, enough of this 4 times junk.
Will Ospreay vs. Jay White After some early stalling, White took control early, with chops, but Ospreay hit him with one so hard that White bumped. Ospreay puts his hands behind his back & dares White for a chop battle. Switchblade doesn’t bite & uppercuts Ospreay, who hits a big back drop & clothesline to the floor. Ospreay does the pump fake dive & drops White with a slam & knee drop for 1. White gets a cheap shot & suplexes Ospreay to the floor. Switchblade controlled Ospreay for about 5 minutes with ground work, until Ospreay fought back. White chopped him in the corner, swept the leg & mocked the crowd clapping. Ospreay hits a chop & his handspring wheel kick, Pip Pip Cheerio sent White outside. Sasuke Special fake out, as Gedo runs distraction, allowing White to hit a draping DDT through the ropes. Blade Buster gets a 2 count, as Ospreay tries a wall walk, but his leg gives out, so he settles for an enzugiri with his good leg. He goes up top & Gedo distracts him enough for White to catch Ospreay in mid air with a Flatliner, then a gut wrench German. They fight up on the top rope, trying for a back superplex, but Ospreay literally jumps off the top rope with a SHOTGUN DROPKICK onto White, who was in the corner. I’ve literally never seen anything like that. White was in the Tree of Woe, Ospreay tried the Coast to Coast, but White rolled outside. Ospreay hits the Sasuke Special on White & Gedo, then heads back in, where he nails a superkick. Oscutter avoided as White answers with a huge Uranage. Kiwi Krusher connects for 2, but Ospreay counters a Blade Runner into a Liger Bomb for 2. Oscutter connects for another 2 count. Ospreay signals for Hidden Blade, but Switchblade collapses. Ospreay isn’t falling for this, as he mounts & fires elbows before Red Shoes pulls him off. Kawada Kicks by Ospreay, who looks for Storm Breaker, as White grabs Red Shoes leg. Gedo runs in with brass knuckles & Ospreay lays him out with a Roaring Elbow. Storm Breaker blocked, low blow blocked, Hidden Blade blocked, Blade Runner block, Roaring Elbow CONNECTS, Hidden Blade CONNECTS, Storm Breaker CONNECTS 1…2…3!! Switchblades best match of the tournament and I’d honestly say this was Ospreay’s third best.
Tomohiro Ishii vs. Shingo Takagi This was in my Top 3 matches from last year’s tournament, so I can’t wait for this one. It takes literally seconds before we get our first forearm battle. Then we get a trading of shoulder blocks until finally Shingo goes down. Ishii chops & Shingo forearms as Ishii flattens Shingo, before waking him up by kicking him multiple times. Shingo tries a hangman reverse DDT, but Ishii rolls to the floor & slams Shingo into the railing. These two have another forearm battle on the outside until Shingo lays Ishii out with a lariat. Back inside, Shingo targets the neck (despite Ishii barely having one), then headbutts Ishii down, which could prove to be foolish later on. They have a chop battle & Shingo tries for Noshigami, but Ishii counters into his brianbuster for the reset. Hard corner chops as Shingo tries forearming his way out of the corner and Ishii literally doesn’t move. Instead, he delivers a Violence Party to Shingo & stomps down on his face. Ishii charges & Shingo gets two back elbows & a brutal lariat. No joke, it literally looks like after Ishii bumps, he hits himself in the ribs as if to knock them back in place. I have no idea if he’s legit hurt, but that freaked me out. Shingo kicks Ishii in the head, which triggers Ishii to start throwing back elbows TO THE THROAT as Shingo collapses. Shingo blocks a kick & starts chopping Ishii IN THE THROAT as retaliation. Noshigami lands flush (Ishii lands right on his fucking face), then a wheelbarrow slam, as Shingo hits a Sliding D for 2. The amount of reversals we get are insane, which ends in both men hitting lariat after lariat, neither want to go down until finally they hit dueling ones & they both collapse! This is amazing shit! Ishii hits a superplex for 2, but Shingo fights off a powerbomb into a back drop. Shingo wants Made in Japan, but hits a gut buster instead at 15 minutes. Shingo does this DDT where he loses his grip and Ishii literally just plants his own head into the mat, which was scary. Made in Japan hits for 2, then a Pumping Bomber connects for 2 as well (that one echoed). Hard lariat drops Ishii again, but he rises & hits a snap back suplex, then another. Striking exchange ends in Ishii dropping Shingo with a forearm, hits a powerbomb for 2 & lariat for 2. Brainbuster attempt is countered into a Shingo pop up DVD. Ishii answers with a snap full nelson suplex, Shingo pops up, eats a lariat 1…KICK OUT! Sliding D by Ishii gets 2, as he looks for his finish, Shingo fights out & nails a sliding forearm to the skull! Both men roll to their stomachs & we get the no hand headbutts where you can hear the clunking of their skulls, which is uncomfortable as hell. Shingo throws some forearms, but Ishii no sells, throwing forearms of his own! He charges & Shingo catches him with a draping GTR! Shingo flat out murders Ishii with a Pumping Bomber 1…2…KICK OUT!!! Snap DDT connects as Shingo signals for Last of the Dragon, but Ishii rolls out & they trade lariats. Shingo looks for a powerslam, but Ishii spins out into a DDT! 5 minutes left as they collide with lariats & headbutts, neither falling before Ishii hits an enzugiri, shakes out his arm & turns Shingo inside out with a lariat 1…2…NO!! Vertical Drop Brainbuster connects flush 1…2…3!!! I’m going to say it; I loved this match, more than Ospreay/Shingo and Tana/Naito. This was the Match of the Tournament thus far. I can’t believe what Ishii can do at 45 years old. Post match, similar to the Ibushi match, Shingo & Ishii, while on the ground, keep trying to fight with each other, but the ring attendants have to pull them away from one another. This happens multiple times and it’s amazing.
A Block Standings 6 Points – Jay White, Taichi, Minoru Suzuki, Kota Ibushi, Will Ospreay 4 Points – Kazuchika Okada 2 Points –Jeff Cobb, Shingo Takagi, Tomohiro Ishii 0 Points – Yujiro Takahashi

Night 8 Juice Robinson vs. Toru Yano Yano kindly offers Juice his new shirt, which Juice foolishly turns his back to put on, so Yano school boys him for 2. He shoves the ref & sprays Juice in the eyes with the sanitizer bottle. Juice rolls outside & washes his eyes out with water, but Yano is out & Juice dumps the entire bottle of sanitizer in Yano’s eyes, who barely beats the count at 19. Yano unties a buckle pad, almost throws Juice into the exposed corner, but Juice blocks & Yano bails up the ramp. Juice yells “YOU’RE AN ASSHOLE!” then turns into Hulk Hogan and rips off the Yano shirt, which breaks poor Yano’s heart. Juice goes after him & gets atomic dropped and tied up with tape, so he has to jump like a Hasbro figure to get back by 17. Juice gets to his feet & is hopping around, but is still able to hit a Full Nelson Slam on Yano before untaping himself. He hits a huge punch “EAT SHIT!” Juice yells, tries Pulp Friction, but Yano gets a school boy, only this time, Juice has it countered for a roll up and the 3 count!
Hirooki Goto vs. Zack Sabre Jr. Goto is taped up from the Naito war, so Zack is dealing with a one armed Goto. Zack quickly gets the Octopus Hold, wrenching at the bad arm, but Goto spins out, as Zack punts the arm & sweeps the leg. PK connects, but Goto gets up & levels Zack down, while clutching his bad arm. Ushigorishi hits, but Goto takes too long to follow up. He goes for GTR, but Zack counters into a Euro Clutch for the 3?!?! Whoa, this went under 4 minutes! Good thing they get some days off, so Goto can heal up.
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. YOSHI-HASHI Just solid back & forth for the first 5 minutes with counters of mat work with some strikes sprinkled in as Tana hit his flying forearm & dragon screw for the first high impact move of the match. YOSHI comes back with hard chops, sending Tana to the corner, then hits a rewind kick, superkick & Liger Bomb for 2. YOSHI fights out of a Full Nelson, but Tana switches his grip & plants YH with a straightjacket German for 2. Tana hits the ropes & runs into a chop (he holds his nose, maybe YH popped him in the face) but Tana hits a Sling Blade, goes for High Fly Flow, but YOSHI gets the knees up! Both up at the same time & throwing forearms, which Tana starts winning, but YOSHI turns to slaps & drops The Ace. He hits a big lariat, Tana no sells the first, but YOSHI drops him with a second for 2. Butterfly Lock applied and Tanahashi is in this for like 3 minutes before getting the ropes. YOSHI tries for Karma, but Tana desperately turns it into Twist & Shout for the reset. Repeated dragon screws, multiple ways by Tana as YOSHI is screaming in pain. Tana tries a flying forearm, but YOSHI catches him in a slam, then Meteora for 2. YOSHI is barely selling the leg, which I’m not a fan of, as he hits a Bunker Buster for 2. He tries for Karma again, but Tana fights out into Sling Blade for a near fall. Tana goes up top & hits a High Fly Flow cross body, then a proper High Fly Flow for the 3 count. Really fun match & you won’t see a better YOSHI-HASHI showing.
KENTA vs. EVIL Not gonna lie, I’m sort of dreading this match. Two dudes in Bullet Club, one has a slow pace & the other has interference out the ass. Stalling by KENTA early, as he went after Togo, but ultimately slammed EVIL into the railing & posted him. Kick aplenty by KENTA inside, until Togo trips him up and KENTA goes after him. EVIL attacks and traps his arm in a chair and smacks it against the post. That’s what EVIL worked on from there (work on the arm of a guy who throws kicks, alright then). Hammerlock applied, then he sent KENTA into an exposed corner buckle, then slapped on the Fujiwara armbar. KENTA got the ropes & fought back with a lariat (with the good arm) and suplex, draping EVIL throat first over the top with his spinning DDT. Top rope clothesline connects for a near fall before Togo interferes a 3rd time, as EVIL attacked the arm, suplexing KENTA for a 2 count. Ref bump as EVIL pulled Red Shoes in front of him & he bumped outside. KENTA smacked EVIL with his briefcase, top rope double stomp as the ref recovers. He hits that Busaiku knee for 2, went for GTS, but EVIL had it countered & sent KENTA into the buckle again. Darkness Falls connects for 2, as did a lariat, so EVIL went for his finisher, but KENTA fired off palm strikes. FOURTH TIME Togo interferes as KENTA drags him in, wanted a GTS on him, but EVIL caught a low blow & Everything is EVIL for the 3 count. Take away the bullshit and I’m sure this would’ve been a fine little match, but we’re half way through this thing and I’m over the Bullet Club/ref bump bullshit.
Tetsuya Naito vs. SANADA In order for SANADA to get his first points in this tournament, he’s going to have to defeat the World/IC Champ & his running buddy. Early mat work & counters as these two have each other scouted so well, that they had counters to counters. This went on for a while before Naito tried the Tranquilo pose, but SANADA pulled him outside & hit the pose instead! Naito ultimately got SANADA on the floor & slammed him into the railing, as they teased a countout, but SANADA was back at 17. Neckbreaker back inside as Naito works the neck. Slingshot dropkick in the corner as he tries another neckbreaker, but he dropkicks out Naito’s leg. Vintage SANADA with his leapfrog dropkick & plancha outside as he tosses Naito back in & avoids a forearm, but Naito hits his Tornado DDT. The champ wants a top rope rana, but SANADA dropkicks a seated Naito (almost like Ospreay did with Switchblade yesterday). He wipes out Naito’s leg & does a Tiger Suplex for a 2 count. Skull End countered by Naito into a spinebuster, as he goes back to the corner & this time hit his top rope hurricanrana for 2. Gloria attempt countered, so Naito settled for Esperanza. Destino blocked & SANADA counters into a TKO for the reset at the 20 minute mark. They slowly rise, hitting each other along the way as SANADA moonsaults out of the corner for Skull End, spinning Naito around before sinking the submission in deeper. Naito nearly escaped, so SANADA sank it in deeper. Like many SANADA matches, he foolishly lets the hold go to try a moonsault, which he misses here at the 25 minute call. Both men slowly up as Naito unfortunately botches a Destino attempt, slipping in the process, so they sort of lose their spot momentarily, so they try the spot again & Naito hits Destino out of a Skull End counter 1…2…NO!! Naito wants another one, but SANADA blocks, Skull End briefly, Naito out & hoists SANADA up for Valencia, but SANADA knees out & Naito flat out drops SANADA on the top of his head, which was scary as shit. They both rise, Naito with an enzugiri, tries Valencia again, but SANADA turns it into Destino 1…2…KICK OUT!! Moonsault off the top to the back & a proper moonsault follows for the 1…2…3!! SANADA wins it! Really fun back & forth main event, which had some uncomfortable bumps towards the end, but I dug it. These two were exhausted and you could tell, but they got through it. This lose could come back to haunt Naito towards the end of the tournament I feel. If SANADA goes on a run and wins out, he could easily be tied with Naito at the end and hold the tiebreaker, so keep that in mind.
B Block Standings 6 Points – Toru Yano, Tetsuya Naito, Juice Robinson 4 Points – KENTA, Zack Sabre Jr, Hiroshi Tanahashi, EVIL 2 Points – Hirooki Goto, YOSHI-HASHI, SANADA

Night 9 Shingo Takagi vs. Yujiro Takahashi After an early forearm exchange, Shingo sends Yujiro outside with a shoulder & posts him on the floor. Yujiro puts the brakes on being sent to the railing, sending Shingo crashing into them twice. Yujiro wastes too much time on the apron & gets his legs clotheslined out from under him. Shingo gets up on the apron with him, but Yujiro quickly hits a reverse DDT on the hardest part of the ring. Headbutts & elbows get a 2 count and a snap single leg dropkick for another near fall. Shingo tries fighting back, but Yujiro bites at his hand, tries for a corner Helluva Kick, but Shingo blocks & drops him. They trade reversals before Shingo bites at the hand this time & hits a brainbuster for 2. Shingo lowers the head too early & Yujiro nails a reverse DDT and fisherman’s buster for 2. Forearm battle commences as Yujiro apparently didn’t learn anything from his Suzuki match, as he dares Shingo to hit him & he just murders him. They hit double lariats & don’t go down, Shingo charges & Yujiro hot shots him. They trade lariats this time & both collapse in a great back & forth segment. Pumping Bomber blocked into an Angle Slam as Yujiro hits a running boot & Miami Shine for 1…2…KICK OUT! Short superkick, then one to the ribs, as Yujiro charges & Shingo clocks him with a lariat and sliding D 1…2…NO! Yujiro tries biting the hand again, gets scolded by the ref, so he just tosses him down. He tries to hit Shingo with his pimp cane, but Shingo blocks, as Yujiro pops him with a forearm, trying for a powerbomb, but Shingo counters into Noshigami. They do a few more blocks until Shingo hits a Pumping Bomber then Last of the Dragon for the 3. This was by far and away the best Yujiro match I’ve seen in years, YEARS.
Jeff Cobb vs. Jay White Bell sounds & White stalls, shocking! He briefly gets the upper hand, but once Cobb gets control, he bails. Switchblade tries to grab Gedo on the floor for help, so Cobb just drags them both in & double noggin knockers them. Cobb tosses White back inside, but Gedo holds the leg & White takes over on offense. Shoulders to the midsection & neckbreaker for 2 as White works the lower back. Petty kicks allow Cobb to recover & hit a Samoan drop. Flying uppercut in the corner & stalling back suplex gets Cobb a 2. White floats over a suplex & DDTs Cobb down for the reset as he hits a few uppercuts & a half suplex folding Cobb up in the corner. Blade Buster connects for a near fall, but he can’t hit the Uranage as Cobb starts no selling, as we get into a forearm exchange. Cobb goes for a home run shot, but White hits a Flatliner. He wants a German suplex, Cobb spins out, but White hits a massive Uranage for 2. White hits an arm drag of the leg & wisely works the leg over, but Cobb just powers him into a strong Irish whip and White takes a Bret Hart buckle. Pull up swinging back suplex gets Cobb 2, standing moonsault 1…2…NO! Tour of the Islands blocked, Blade Runner blocked, snap German connects by Cobb, as Switchblade clutches the ropes, kicking away. White takes the ref as here comes Gedo to run distraction. Half & half by White drops Cobb on his neck, as he looks for a Blade Runner, but Cobb counters into a variation of Tour of the Islands! Gedo gets in, but Cobb gorilla presses him onto White. He shoots Switchblade off for a proper Tour of the Islands for the 3!
Kazuchika Okada vs. Minoru Suzuki Mat work from Suzuki early who is just showing that he’s a better grappler than Okada, as he has a smirk on his face doing so. Okada gets a takedown, but Suzuki reverses into a cross face as Okada scrambles to the ropes. Suzuki stomps on the arm as they start their forearm exchange. Suzuki wins that battle & sinks in a triangle choke through the ropes. To the floor we go where Suzuki sends Okada into the railing, continuing to work the arm. Okada beats the count & slides into a Suzuki punt and a kimura lock. Okada gets a rope break, as Suzuki charges & Okada gets double boots up and a neckbreaker. Forearm battle again as Suzuki is connecting with some super violent ones as Okada’s look like he’s hitting Suzuki with a feather. Misdirection by Suzuki, who tries for the Gotch, but Okada counters into an Air Raid Crash neckbreaker. Uppercut battle as Suzuki isn’t moving at all after taking uppercuts from Okada. He lights up Okada with slaps, hits the ropes & runs into an Okada dropkick. Tombstone is blocked, Suzuki throws headbutts, but Okada blocks one, hits the Tombstone and here comes the Money Clip. Suzuki thankfully counters into a cross arm breaker, but Okada quickly gets the ropes. Backslide by Okada into a Rainmaker, but Okada can’t follow up. He maintains wrist control, Suzuki ducks a Rainmaker & sinks in the Rear Naked Choke! Okada slowly gets up, they trade submission attempts, Suzuki tries for a Gotch piledriver, but Okada backdrops him. Suzuki tries a sunset flip, but Okada drops down, holds the legs 1…2…3!! Shock win out of nowhere as Suzuki is a mad man outside, furious! Loved this ending and it was a very good match. We need matches like this in the tournament where wins come out of nowhere.
Tomohiro Ishii vs. Taichi Both men no sell out the gate as Taichi throws kicks & Ishii throws chops. This goes on for quite a while, like 20 a piece before Ishii winces first & Taichi drops him with a leg kick. Taichi takes over outside as he grabs the ring hammer & smacks Ishii with it, then chokes him right in front of Red Shoes, who just essentially stands there. Back inside, Taichi keeps choking Ishii and Red Shoes again, does NOTHING! Even for Red Shoes this is ridiculous. Taichi throws more kicks & Ishii screams at him to bring it on, so Taichi foolishly starts doing petty paint brush kicks, which wakes Ishii up; he plants Taichi with a snap powerslam, then does a Violence Party in the corner. Ishii keeps stomping on his head & runs over Taichi with a shoulder tackle, tries a back suplex, but Taichi fights out. Corner boot & jump kick drops Ishii as we get a reset. Taichi knees out of a brainbuster & hits a Buzzsaw Kick as off come the britches, which actually wakes Ishii up, as he pops right up. Jump kick in the back of the head as Taichi hits Kawada Kicks that Ishii no sells, so Taichi promptly murders him with a forearm! Saito suplex hits as Taichi looks for Black Mephisto, but Ishii blocks into a buckle bomb & lariat. Taichi tries the ref assisted kick, but Ishii blocks & drops him, then hits a stacked powerbomb for 2. Super lariat turns Taichi inside out for the closest near fall of the match. Ishii tries the brainbuster, but Taichi wiggles out, throws the ref into Ishii, hits a low blow, Gedo clutch 1…2…NO!! Last Ride connects as Taichi tries the hook kick, but Ishii hits a German, that Taichi no sells. Ishii headbutts him down & screams, then he starts ramming his own head into the corner to hulk himself up. Lariat connects 1…Taichi kicks out! He hits a Saito suplex on Ishii for 2 and we get another reset. Ishii avoids Black Mephisto with a jumping high kick & sliding D for 2, then hits a Vertical Drop Brainbuster for the 3 count. This was Taichi’s best match so far in the tournament and to no surprise, it was against Ishii, who I really hope goes on a run of wins here. This was also the best match of the night so far.
Kota Ibushi vs. Will Ospreay Ospreay does a clean break off a lock up & messes the hair up of Ibushi like he’s a little kid. Ibushi tries a drop down, but Ospreay stands on top of him like a surfboard & rubs the face of Ibushi into the mat, which just pisses him off. Snap rana by Ospreay sends Ibushi outside & he does his fake out pose. Ibushi nearly runs into the ring & hits a Kamigoye off it, but Ospreay hits the handspring wheel kick & a flying forearm off the apron outside. Back inside, Ospreay chops away, then applies a submission (think Tequila Sunrise/Sharpshooter combo), but Ibushi gets the ropes. Ibushi starts fighting back with kicks & does a standing moonsault for 2. Both men dare the other to charge at him, as Ospreay hits a double chop, Ibushi kips up & does a double stomp on Ospreay, who was trying a baseball slide through the legs! Ospreay fights out of Last Ride, hits Pip Pip Cheerio, then nails the Sasuke Special outside! Reverse Bloody Sunday back inside gets Ospreay 2, as he goes up to the top, but Ibushi cuts him off. Zero clue what Ibushi is trying for, as he looks like he’s trying for a Super Tiger Bomb, but Ospreay knocks him to the apron. Ibushi springboard hurricanranas Ospreay off the top rope, but OSPREAY LANDS ON HIS FEET!! Ibushi looks like he saw a ghost & can’t believe it, as he charges and we have a forearm exchange. Ospreay wins the battle, but Ibushi turns & stares at him before DEMOLISHING Ospreay with a slap to the chest & kicks. Ibushi tries a lawn dart, Ospreay hits a wall walk enzugiri, but as he goes to hit the ropes, Ibushi holds on & hits a German suplex for 2. Bomaye connects 1…2…NO! He grabs wrist control, tries Kamigoye, but Ospreay avoids it, hits the Hook Kick, looks for Storm Breaker, but settles for a spinning Liger Bomb 1…2…KICK OUT!! Ospreay measures him for Hidden Blade, but Ibushi blocks it, hits a high kick & crazy Last Ride for 2! Ospreay nearly gets a shock roll up, spins over a clothesline, tries Storm Breaker, but Ibushi gets the wrist, tries Kamigoye, misses, Ospreay springs off the ropes for an Oscutter, but IBUSHI HITS A V-TRIGGER IN MID AIR!! Kamigoye connects 1…2…3!! What a match! Ibushi grabs the hand of Ospreay (who is down) & shakes it as this match was fantastic, but I honestly think they were holding back for another showdown. Which is insane to think.
A Block Standings 8 Points – Kota Ibushi 6 Points – Jay White, Taichi, Minoru Suzuki, Will Ospreay, Kazuchika Okada 4 Points –Shingo Takagi, Jeff Cobb, Tomohiro Ishii 2 Points – 0 Points – Yujiro Takahashi

We're officially at the halfway point of the tournament!
Night 10 Hirooki Goto vs. Toru Yano Bell sounds & Yano tries to give Goto his shirt, but he throws it down. Yano turns around to pick it up, gets clotheslined from behind & Goto gets a rolling leg lock into a roll up for the 3!! The fastest match in G1 Climax HISTORY!! 18 seconds!
SANADA vs. Zack Sabre Jr. Just great mat work by ZSJ to start, picking apart body parts as SANADA is forced to find different ways to escape. They go a test of strength & SANADA gets the upper hand, but Sabre spins out, pops up & fires off uppercuts. SANADA does his leap frogs & dropkicks Sabre outside, but misses a plancha & Sabre wraps him up in the Octopus Hold on the floor. He tosses SANADA back inside & ultimately snaps the wrist. SANADA blocks a PK into a dragon screw, but Sabre regains control with a cross arm breaker into a triangle. He piggy backs on SANADA & grabs a choke, but SANADA luckily falls into the ropes for the break. Misdirection spot ends in a series of counters of the Euro Clutch pin attempt & Sabre gets 2. He gets a few uppercuts before SANADA hits his moonsault into the dragon sleeper, but Sabre floats over. SANADA nearly gets a roll up, but rolls right into another Sabre submission choke. SANADA reverses & hits a Tower of London draping cutter off the ropes, hits the moonsault 1…2…3!! This was just super solid & entertaining counter mat/submission work from both. This keeps my prediction of SANADA winning out alive.
Juice Robinson vs. EVIL Early chops by Juice, so Togo runs interference & slams him into the railing while EVIL took the ref. They switch roles & EVIL hits a snap suplex onto a bunch of chairs before Too Sweeting the camera. Juice beats the count & EVIL hits a snap suplex for 2 before sinking in a half crab. Juice crawls & gets the ropes as he pops EVIL with some forearms before getting his eyes raked & sent into the exposed corner buckle. EVIL hits the ropes, but Juice catches him with The Taste. Snap jabs & a spinebuster as Togo gets up on the apron & knocked down, Juice wipes him out with a plancha. Cannonball in the corner as Juice goes up top for a high cross body and a 2 count. Ref assisted superkick by EVIL, who drops the boot on a hung up Juice in the corner. Fisherman’s Buster blocked, as is the standing senton, which Juice hits one of his own. Corner lariat as Juice sets EVIL up on the top & hits a superplex, holds on & hits a Jackhammer for 2. EVIL fights back with a lariat, hits Darkness Falls for a super close 2. I hate when the refs in New Japan slowly go for the last count when they know it’s not the finish. They trade counters to their finishers, EVIL tries a misdirect, but Juice has it scouted with a lariat. Juice sends EVIL into Togo on the apron, hits the Juice Box for a 2. Juice with a Right Hand of God, goes for another, but EVIL hits a low blow as Togo took the ref. He hits Everything is EVIL and gets the 3. I wish I cared more about this match, but I didn’t get into it. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t that good either. Juice’s weakest non-Yano match of the tournament IMO.
YOSHI-HASHI vs. Tetsuya Naito After an early back & forth, Naito zones in on the neck with a neckbreaker over the knee & a crucifix submission. YOSHI gets the ropes, so Naito cranks the neck & applies a cravat. YOSHI fights out, Naito tries his Tornado DDT off the ropes, but YOSHI counters into a neckbreaker of his own. Naito regains control on the outside & eventually is able to connect with Combinacion Cabron as YOSHI clutches his neck in pain. Top rope rana is blocked, as YOSHI slides through & hits a running Liger Bomb for 2. Butterfly Lock momentarily applied, but he lets go to hit the ropes & Naito hits his step up Tornado DDT off the ropes. Hanging neckbreaker by Naito, who looks for Gloria & hits sort of a variation of it for 2. YOSHI blocks Destino, but Naito responds with a pop up spinebuster. Destino attempt countered into a YH lariat for the reset. They slowly get up & have a long forearm battle that Naito wins with a slap, but YOSHI answers with a Tombstone shoulder breaker into the Butterfly Lock, which he has locked on for what feels like 5 straight minutes. We get a 20 minute call and I honestly can’t believe that, as it feels like not a whole lot has happened in this match. Naito counters the Fisherman’s Buster with knees & this match has slowed to a snail’s pace. I know both men are tired, but this is slow motion. YOSHI fights back with a headbutt, slap & snap German, then turns Naito inside out with a lariat for 2. He tries for a suplex, but Naito turns it into Destino, then tries a proper one, but YOSHI counters into a violent brainbuster for 2. Naito fights out of Karma twice, hits an enzugiri, Koppo Kick, then Valencia for 2. Destino connects flush for the 3 count. The last 5 minutes were good, but the first 20 I was bored by. It was very slow and I just didn’t need a 25 minute YOSHI-HASHI match with Naito, as I (along with the crowd) knew full well YOSHI wasn’t beating Naito.
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. KENTA KENTA stalls early, so Tana wasn’t having that shit & hit a baseball slide to bring him back inside. Cross body off the second and some air guitar (which he throws the guitar away after he’s done), but KENTA hangs him up over the top & chop blocks the leg. That’s your story for the next 5 minutes, as KENTA posts the leg, slams it against the railing, slowly picks it apart while Tana sells like the GOAT that he is. KENTA tries a Helluva Kick, but Tana blocks, hits a dragon screw, then a somersault senton lands flush off the second for 2. Tana charges, but he’s slowed due to the knee, allowing KENTA to hit a snap powerslam. Diving lariat off the top connects, then KENTA slaps on a Figure Four variation, but Tana gets the ropes. Tana fights back, but KENTA gets him on the apron & they both try suplexes inside/outside. Neither get it and KENTA lands on the apron where we have a forearm battle. Tana wins, so KENTA wipes out the leg & they really tease the countout as Tana can barely stand, but makes it at 17. He rolls right into a Shibata corner dropkick as KENTA goes up top & hits his double stomp 1…2…NO! Full Nelson by Tana, but KENTA punches the leg, hits a dragon screw & back to the Figure Four. Tana sits up in the hold & slaps KENTA so fucking hard that KENTA had to let go of the hold immediately to recover. LOVED THAT! KENTA takes too long bringing Tana to his feet, hits the ropes & Tana hits a desperation Sling Blade for the reset. Friggin hard hitting forearm battle, Tana throws slaps & KENTA throws spinning back fists. He tries for a draping DDT, but Tana gets out & hits a dragon screw through the ropes & then one on the mat. Cloverleaf applied by Tanahashi, but KENTA gets the ropes. Tana hits a Shibata dropkick of his own, charges for another, but KENTA throws the ref into Tana & knocks them both down. With Tanahashi on top of Red Shoes, KENTA SPLASHES BOTH OF THEM! DDT plants Tana flush, he goes to get his briefcase & wallops Tanahashi right in the head, but there’s no ref. KENTA measures Tana & hits the Busaiku Knee, gets the ref 1…2…NO! KENTA goes to pull Tana up, but he just collapses. He hits a violent knee right to the face & looks for GTS, but Tana counters into Twist & Shout, while holding on, hits two more! Picture perfect Sling Blade 1…2…NO! Tana screams before going up top High Fly Flow cross body hits, but instead of chancing a frog splash & hurting his own knees more, he applies a Cloverleaf. KENTA tries to get the ropes, but Tana walks him to the middle of the ring & really cranks back for the submission!! I LOVED THIS MATCH, the story was simple, but Tanahashi is the greatest seller in all of wrestling. This had everything YOSHI & Naito was missing. Tanahashi is the fucking best and this was KENTA’s best match of the tournament.
B Block Standings 8 Points – Tetsuya Naito 6 Points – Toru Yano, Juice Robinson, EVIL, Hiroshi Tanahashi 4 Points – KENTA, Zack Sabre Jr, Hirooki Goto, SANADA 2 Points – YOSHI-HASHI

Night 11 Tomohiro Ishii vs. Yujiro Takahashi Yujiro attacks at the bell with a big boot, lariat & DDT on the floor before heading back inside. He gets a few near falls of a boot & standing powerslam. Ishii takes over off a counter of a fisherman’s buster into a suplex before firing off forearms & a headbutt. Yujiro bites out of a powerbomb attempt & hits a one leg dropkick. Hot shot connects, but Ishii fights back with a Saito suplex. Yujiro hits a Fisherman’s suplex & Ishii is really clutching his neck (he’s selling his hand is numb too). Yujiro charges, but Ishii ducks & German suplexes Yujiro into the corner. Huge stalling superplex off the second for Ishii, who gets a 2 count. Yujiro tries a desperation lariat, but Ishii no sells & flattens him with one. Powerbomb is blocked into an Alabama Slam by the Tokyo Pimp. Big lariat by Yujiro, who hits an Angle Slam for 2. Ishii throws a headbutt, but charges right into a Miami Shine for a Yujiro 2 count. He wants Pimp Juice, but Ishii counters into a release German & follows with an enzugiri and murder lariat for 2. Ishii wants the finish, but Yujiro keeps blocking the brainbuster until he hits one of his own. Super close cradle gets Yujiro 2, as he tries a DDT, but Ishii pushes him away and hits an UPPERCUT HEADBUTT, sliding D 1…2…NO! Vertical drop brainbuster connects & Ishii wins it. This was the best Yujiro match of the tournament, which should come as no surprise it was against Ishii.
Kazuchika Okada vs. Jeff Cobb First time these two have ever wrestled, which is cool. Standard back & forth to start as Okada tries a leapfrog, but Cobb catches him in mid air & hits a stalling suplex. Okada bails, selling the back, as he gets back in & hits a neckbreaker on Cobb, despite barely having a neck. Snap single leg dropkick to the face & DDT as he really wrenches away at a chin lock, which Cobb powers out of. Okada misses a corner elbow & Cobb hits a few shoulder blocks and overhead belly to belly suplex. Cobb hits the leaping corner uppercut & stalling back suplex for 2. Okada answers with a leaping back elbow & DDT once more for a 2 of his own. Okada wants an Air Raid Crash, but Cobb is built like a brick shit house, so that doesn’t work & Cobb levels him with a lariat for a double down. Revolution gut wrenches transitioned into a spinning back suplex for 2, then standing moonsault for 2 as well. BREAKING NEWS: JEFF COBB IS A STRONG MOTHERFUCKER!! Cobb tries Tour of the Islands, but Okada avoids it & hits his dropkick, then Tombstone. He slaps on Money Clip, but releases & tries a Rainmaker, which Cobb ducks & hits a dropkick of his own. Rainmaker pose from Cobb, who looks for Tour of the Islands again, but settles for a snap German. He goes for his finish again, but Okada nearly gets 2 off a roll up. They pop up and Cobb hits a superkick, tries for a lariat, but Okada blocks, he goes for an Air Raid Crash, but opts to backdrop Cobb, who hangs on for a sunset flip, only Okada drops his knees & gets the flash pin! The same way he beats Suzuki. Fun little match, thankful that Okada didn’t submit Cobb to that damn Money Clip. They’re almost telling the story that Okada is lucking into these last two wins.
Will Ospreay vs. Minoru Suzuki Another first time matchup that starts with a forearm that Suzuki wins. We get a bunch of counters & Ospreay hits a plancha outside. Ospreay tries Pip Pip Cheerio off the railing, but Suzuki catches him into an arm breaker. He tries for the chair, but the ref takes it away, so Suzuki uses the railing to snap the arm. Cross arm breaker using the ring post was cool. Inside the ring, Suzuki keeps on the attack of the arm, daring Ospreay to hit him, which he does, but the arm is weak, so they have no effect. Suzuki proceeded to murder him with strikes. Suzuki chopped Ospreay so hard HE MADE HIS CHEST BLEED, as he sank in an Octopus Hold. Ospreay gets free & hits a desperation handspring wheel kick and standing shooting star for 2. He goes for Pip Pip Cheerio again, but Suzuki counters into the arm breaker for a second time. Ospreay gets the ropes & Suzuki hits a Helluva Kick and PK (to the arms, as Ospreay had his hands up to protect his face). He dares Will to fight back & he does so, with his good arm in the forearm battle, which Suzuki just wears him down with. Ospreay boots Suzuki away from the ropes & the third attempt of Pip Pip Cheerio hits, but only for 2. He knocks Suzuki off the ropes & tries a 450; lands on his feet, Hook Kick, Suzuki slap counter, Hook Kick into the reset. Suzuki cranks the arm to avoid Storm Breaker, but Ospreay starts a forearm battle foolishly, which Suzuki murders him as a result. Ospreay tries a handspring, but leaps right into a rear naked choke attempt, as he spins out & drops Suzuki with a suplex for 2. Hidden Blade is avoided as Suzuki does a spinning head scissors almost into the rear naked choke! Ospreay fades, but as Suzuki goes for the Gotch, Ospreay catches him with an enzugiri & Storm Breaker for the 3 count! This was the most I’ve ever seen Will Ospreay sell and I enjoyed it. His matches tend to be sell for like 5 seconds before doing flippy/high impact move, repeat. This time, he sold the arm out the gate & incorporated it into his offense. Suzuki rules, so that’s no surprise there.
Taichi vs. Jay White So we essentially got double Doinks to start, as every time White stalled, Taichi did the same exact thing. Finally Taichi took the fight outside & slammed White into the railing, choking him with the cable cord. Gedo interfered though & posted Taichi, allowing White to take over inside with a neckbreaker. It was all Switchblade until Taichi hits an enzugiri, looked for another, but White chop blocked him, DDT, Blade Buster for a near fall. Saito suplex countered into an Axe Bomber right to the noggin as he looked for Last Ride, only for White to get out. Kawada Kicks for Taichi, who looked for the powerbomb again, but White got a dragon screw. White hits a German off a missed enzugiri, but Taichi no sells, charges & White nails a massive Uranage. Taichi no sells yet again & plants White with a backdrop suplex for the reset. They start daring the other to hit them (which they do), but everything they tell their opponent to hit them with, the other does the opposite. Taichi hits what feels like his 20th enzugiri this match & tries the Gedo clutch (how fitting) as Gedo took the ref. Switchblade tried a low blow, but Taichi blocked & shoved him into the ref for a bump. Gedo hopped in & got low blowed for his efforts, as did White for a close 2 as the ref miraculously recovered right in time. Finally Taichi got his Last Ride for another 2, as off come the britches, but White pulls the ref in front of him, avoiding the Buzzsaw Kick. Taichi looked for Black Mephisto, but was met with a flash Blade Runner for the 3. I was dreading this pairing coming in, as I thought it’d be bullshit for a majority, but it was the contrary, pretty damn enjoyable match. They played the heel vs heel stuff good and Taichi was the babyface pretty much. Both looked real good in this one.
Kota Ibushi vs. Shingo Takagi The opening sequence was strike, strike, counter, repeat and it was fantastic. They trade forearms (like, a LOT) before Ibushi buckles, but suckers Shingo in with a dropkick to the floor. Shingo had the plancha scouted, as he bailed around the ring. Ibushi attacks right as he gets back in, tries for a springboard, but Shingo catches him in a fireman’s carry. He places Ibushi on the apron & just pops him with a forearm, crashing to the floor. He slammed Ibushi into the railing, side of the ring & dropped him with a DDT, as we headed back inside. Ibushi tried fighting back with forearms, but Shingo caught a kick & hit a dragon screw, working over the leg. Ibushi just stared at him & hit a snap hurricanrana for the reset. Ibushi hits a standing moonsault for 2, Shingo rolls outside & Ibushi hits his plancha. He tries for a powerbomb inside, but Shingo back drops out and they face off in the center of the ring. They trade kicks & blocks, before Shingo hits a back elbow/snap back fist & lariat combo. Noshigami blocked twice, backslide, Kamigoye blocked, Noshigami hits 1…2…NO! Sliding D avoided as they collide with double clotheslines, then they trade snap half & half Germans for another reset. Really wish a large crowd was here for this one (for all of this obviously) as the lack of crowd reaction for that spot was disappointing, but I understand. They trade headbutts & forearms on their knees, then come the slaps, which Shingo stops that immediately (smart move), as Ibushi throws kicks & Shingo no sells. He throws chops & Ibushi winces, but doesn’t go down either. Ibushi’s kicks are echoing as Shingo hits a snap right hand & a series of forearms. Ibushi flips out of a German & punts Shingo in the head! Last Ride connects for 2, but Shingo answers with a pop up DVD. Shingo hits the ropes, but Ibushi hits a V-Trigger. He tries for Kamigoye, but Shingo counters into a stalling Made in Japan 1…2…KICK OUT! Ibushi’s facial expression for that was amazing. 2 Pumping Bombers hit, with the second dropping Ibushi right on his neck 1…2…NO!! 20 minute call as Shingo hits a lariat & right hand that nearly folds Ibushi up. Ibushi fires back with a strong lariat as he lowers the knee pad, wants a Bomaye & hits it 1…2…KICK OUT! Both knee pads down, he was Kamigoye, but Shingo counters into Last of the Dragon for the 3! This ruled, but the fact that it felt as if these two were holding back for a bigger match down the line is downright scary.
A Block Standings 8 Points – Kota Ibushi, Kazuchika Okada, Will Ospreay, Jay White 6 Points – Taichi, Minoru Suzuki, Tomohiro Ishii, Shingo Takagi 4 Points – Jeff Cobb 2 Points –

Night 12 Hirooki Goto vs. YOSHI-HASHI Solid back & forth to start, with dueling shoulder blocks as Goto got a hip toss & boots to the corner. YOSHI zones in on the bad shoulder and goes to work, quickly taking over. He tried a kimura, transitioned into an arm breaker attempt, but Goto avoided it, getting the ropes. They both tried for a suplex, which Goto got a back suplex, wheel kick & running bulldog for 2. Ushigoroshi blocked by YOSHI, who hit his Headhunter before chopping away at Goto, who responded with Ushigoroshi. He wanted GTR, but YOSHI avoided, misdirection, but they clonked each other with double lariats. YOSHI fired back with a big time lariat for the reset. Dragon Suplex and Meteora for a 2 from YOSHI, who sank on the Butterfly Lock, switching to a sleeper to get Goto away from the ropes. Backstabber connects, as does a Fisherman’s Buster, but he couldn’t put Goto away with Karma, as he blocked it with a GTW, but the damage was done & he couldn’t try a cover. Goto swung for a lariat, but YOSHI ducked & hit one instead. They trade headbutts & slaps, which Goto won that striking battle, leading to him connecting with a punt kick & GTR for the 3! This went like 15 minutes, but it honestly didn’t feel like it. It was a fun, hard hitting match. With this loss though, YOSHI has been eliminated, despite putting on some of his best performances in this tournament.
Toru Yano vs. Zack Sabre Jr. FOUR, count’em, FOUR rolls of tape Yano pulled out of his trunks before the start. I really don’t want to know where he’s hiding others. Yano is focused on wrestling apparently (for the first time in years) and picked a weird time to do it against ZSJ. They have a pretty rad scramble as Yano hung tough. They took turns in the amateur position, but Yano dove to untie the buckle pad. Sabre stopped him & locked on the Octopus Hold before knocking him outside. Yano actually taped Zack’s hand to a chair & stuck it between the railing. They teased the countout at 19, with Zack bringing the chair into the ring, thus getting scolded by the ref in a funny spot. Yano apologizes, offers his hand, but rakes the eyes, taking Zack down with a belly to belly suplex! Back to the floor, Yano tries a fucking German suplex into the railing, but Sabre counters into an ankle lock. He held onto the hold, dragging Yano up the entrance way, letting go at 15, sprinting back to the ring as Yano hopped back by 19. He kept up the leg attack before Yano got his trusty buckle pad removed & swept the leg with it for a 2 count. They teased cradle pin attempts before Yano tries a low blow, but Zack closed his legs, got a submission, which Yano turned into a close 2. Yano sends Zack into the exposed buckle, tries a powerbomb, but Zack countered into a guillotine. Yano powers up, tries a small package & gets 2. Standing switch from both, Yano tries a mule kick, but Zack catches it into an ankle lock. Yano grabbed the buckle pad & smacked Sabre with it, but Zack no sold and got a heel hook/figure four combo for the submission win. This went 12 minutes and before you lose your shit, THIS WAS A LOT OF FUN! This was the most fun Yano match of the G1 so far. I was entertained.
SANADA vs. KENTA KENTA threw his briefcase in the air to sneak attack SANADA at the bell, as he immediately went outside & posted him. Back inside, KENTA would apply rest hold after rest hold, with SANADA getting a rope break in between, but KENTA would maintain control. That thankfully stops as SANADA hit a back suplex to recover slightly. Paradise Lock is blocked at first, but SANADA gets it on the second try, getting the crowd amped as he dropkicks KENTA in the ass for 2. Swinging DDT by KENTA as he hung up SANADA over the top rope & hit his top rope clothesline for 2. SANADA sends KENTA to the floor, teases a plancha, but KENTA pulls his leg out & he bumps on the apron. Draping DDT gets KENTA 2 as he connects with a Helluva Kick and Shibata Dropkick before going up top for his double stomp, only getting 2. GTS is called, but SANADA wiggles into Skull End, KENTA floats over into Game Over, SANADA rolls into the ropes before it’s applied. KENTA charges & runs right into a TKO as Skull End applied for 2 seconds before KENTA runs them both into the ref, who bumps & he DDT’s SANADA. He grabs his briefcase, but SANADA dropkicks it into his face! He gets rid of the evidence, tries a moonsault, but KENTA gets the knees up 1…2…NO! GTS countered, Skull End countered, quick roll up for 2 from KENTA, but SANADA answers with an O’Connor Roll for the flash 3! The finish was fun, but the rest of the match didn’t do it for me. KENTA wrestles so slowly for like 90% of his matches, that unless he has a really strong opponent to push him, just doesn’t click. While this was obviously better wrestling wise, I was honestly more entertained by the Yano match. SANADA keeps my prediction of him winning out alive! I think it all comes down to SANADA vs EVIL for this block on the final night. SANADA wins and has the tie break over Naito. I have no clue who wins the A Block though.
Juice Robinson vs. Tetsuya Naito Highlight at the start was Red Shoes bobbing his head to the We Will Rock You clap that Juice started. They did a few pump fakes with lock ups before trading takedowns as they did a stalemate with Naito in his LIJ pose, mocking the clapping chant. Juice hit a backbreaker/neckbreaker combo as Naito rolled outside & Juice kept the attack up, slamming Naito in the railing multiple times. Naito got his revenge, as once he recovered; he did the same thing, sending Juice in the railing. Naito starts toying with Juice, but Juice fights off a neckbreaker 3 times, Naito fights off a suplex, gets free & runs right into a Juice spinebuster. Juice jabs and a DDT get 2 as he goes to the top. He leaps off, lands on his feet, Naito pops him with a back elbow, hip toss & snap dropkick to slowly regain control. Draping reverse neckbreaker, then another for 2, as Naito sank in Pluma Blanca, but Juice got the ropes. Both slow to get up, as Naito tried a flying forearm, but Juice caught him with a full nelson slam for another reset. Cannonball in the corner connects as Juice takes Naito to the corner & hits a superplex, held on, hitting his Jackhammer for 2. Pulp Friction attempt blocked, Juice Box blocked, but the Left Hand of God connected! Juice Box attempt again, but Naito counters into a Poison Rana! He slowly takes Juice to the corner & hits his top rope rana, tried Destino but Juice responded with The Taste (while yelling “EAT SHIT!”) as both men are down! Naito tries his step up DDT off the ropes, but Juice blocks it, tries a suplex, Naito turns it into Destino 1…2…NO! Naito wants a proper one, but Juice counters into a huge powerbomb! They trade punches as Naito crumbles off a left; he blocked Pulp Friction, but not the Left Hand of God, which landed flush. Pulp Friction blocked again & Naito hits Destino 1…2…KICK OUT!! Naito pulls him up and hits another Destinooooooooooo 1…2…3!! We’re so trained to expect these sprints or high flying or hard hitting wars that we tend to completely forget about the slow, but well built stories that end in a (no pun intended) great climax for the finish. This was one of those matches, it was 25 minutes of a match that slowly built and Juice, even in defeat, looked like a star. It took 3 Destinos from the champ to win it. And Juice never…hit…his finisher, something to remember.
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. EVIL Tana held an early headlock for dear life before EVIL grabbed the hair, which Tana did as well. Togo quickly trips Tana & sends him into the railing (he lets go of his arm so early Tana hilariously is just running himself half the way to slam into it). He then takes the ref as EVIL grabs some chairs and wraps it around Tana’s head, hitting a home run. For good measure, EVIL attacks Yota Tsuji ringside, hitting a suplex onto the chairs. Tana beats the count at 14 as EVIL hits a suplex, but Red Shoes won’t count due to the shenanigans outside (But he counted Tana out? I don’t get you Red Shoes). EVIL targeted the leg, trying for the ref assisted kick, but Tana blocked, asked Red Shoes to lower his leg & he dragon screwed EVIL down. He slams EVIL down & hits the somersault senton for 2. EVIL tries to shoot Tana over the top; The Ace skins the cat, only he did this right into a German suplex & Fisherman’s Buster for 2. EVIL tries for a Cloverleaf, but Tana counters into one of his own. EVIL got free, told Togo to trip Tana as he whipped him in, but Tana wiped out Togo with a baseball slide. Dragon screw in the ropes, then a proper one as Tana locked in the Cloverleaf again. EVIL got the ropes after a struggle, tried a low blow, but Tana blocked it and slapped the shit out of EVIL. Tana tries to shoot EVIL in the corner, but gets reversed and Tana goes back first into the exposed corner. They both slowly get up; EVIL does the misdirection & hits a lariat for 2. EVIL signals for the end, but Tana avoids his finish, blocks Darkness Falls, countering into a Sling Blade at the 15 minute mark. Tana jumps to the top, but Togo runs distraction. Yota pulls him down as Tana hits a High Fly Flow cross body, but goes back to the Cloverleaf. Dick Togo got out of Yota’s clutches, stomped the ref & choked Tana with his cable weapon thing. Tana got free, knocked him down, hit Twist & Shout then Sling Blade on EVIL for 2 (ref recovered, shocking I know). Tana hits a High Fly Flow to the back, but doesn’t go for the cover, he goes up for another. Togo chucks a chair up at Tana IN FRONT OF RED SHOES, but Tana catches it. He hands it to Red Shoes, who turns his back to put it out of the ring, allowing Togo to crotch Tanahashi. Too much bullshit at this point, even for a Bullet Club match. EVIL hit a superplex, but Tana kicked out. Darkness Falls connects, but again, Tana out at 2. Everything Is EVIL hits and he got the 3 count. Crowd was fucking zombies at that point. I hated this finish so much; it ruined this match entirely for me. I get it’s EVIL, so Togo interferes, but this hampered the match badly. Tanahashi’s worst G1 match of the year (minus Yano) and it wasn’t his fault by any means.
B Block Standings 10 Points – Tetsuya Naito 8 Points – EVIL 6 Points – Toru Yano, Juice Robinson, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Hirooki Goto, Zack Sabre Jr, SANADA 4 Points – KENTA

Night 13 Tomohiro Ishii vs. Jeff Cobb Battle of the refrigerators as these two literally just bounce off each other before Cobb hits the first shoulder block knock down. After another back & forth, Ishii hits a shoulder of his own, but Cobb kips up, so Ishii hits a back suplex. They trade forearms until Ishii headbutts Cobb down, chopping him to the corner. Weak kicks wake Cobb up, who fires up with an overhead leg trapped Taz-plex. Leaping corner uppercut & running back suplex get Cobb the first near fall. They trade suplex attempts, with Ishii finally hitting one, throwing chops. Cobb tells Ishii to bring it on, which was a mistake, as Ishii crushes him with chops & forearms until he’s down. They trade forearms before Ishii hits one that drops Cobb like a ton of bricks. Cobb face planted as the ref checks on him for a TKO stoppage, but there’s fight left as he hits a massive overhead belly to belly. Both men slowly up at the same time & Ishii hits a snap powerslam & German! Ishii charges for a lariat, but runs right into an Exploder suplex. Cobb with a CHARGING UPPERCUT HEADBUTT giving Ishii a taste of his own medicine. Deadlift German gets a close 2 count as he goes for Tour of the Islands, but Ishii lariats out, Cobb drops him, standing moonsault 1…2…NO! Ishii wiggles out of Cobb’s finish again & hits an enzugiri for the reset. Ishii charges & Cobb popped him with a stiff right, charges himself, but Ishii destroys him with a lariat! Sliding D looks like it connects, Cobb catches him, tries for a Uranage, but Ishii hits a German! He turns Cobb inside out with a lariat 1…2…KICK OUT! Cobb avoids a brainbuster with a spinning back suplex, but Ishii no sells and they clonk heads at the same time! Series of reversals end with Ishii headbutting Cobb down, but he runs into a Cobb pop up powerbomb and Tour of the Islands 1…2…3!! This was the best Cobb match in this tournament, I loved this opener.
Jay White vs. Yujiro Takahashi Battle of the BC boys as Switchblade is wearing track pants, tank top & headband for this, not in his gear at all. Hell, he’s wearing sneakers. Yujiro lays down for him, knowing he’s out of the tournament; he just wants a seemless win for Switchblade. White covers him, but Yujiro kicks out at 2. He apologizes and says its habbit, as White turns and looks at Gedo. Yujiro school boys White for 2, small package for 2, as White shoves him, so Yujiro hits a lariat and Angle Slam 1…2…NO! Miami Shine blocked as White almost runs into the ref, low blow by Yujiro, school boy 1…2…NO! Miami Shine connects 1…2…NO! Gedo runs distraction, low blow by White, who hits Blade Runner for the 3. I was fine with this; keep it short and White gets his win. He literally did one move. Post match, a pissed off Switchblade grabs a chair, but Gedo calms him down and White storms off.
Will Ospreay vs. Taichi We get a bored Taichi (oh, no) stalling to start, as Ospreay tried to get him going, messing his hair up. Taichi fired off kicks (was that all it took to get Taichi to try?), but Ospreay hit a rana to the floor. Taichi took over, hitting Ospreay with the ring hammer & choking him with it. Taichi targets the throat in the ring, but as he rolled outside, Ospreay hit the Sasuke Special. Back inside, shooting star & corkscrew connects, but Taichi pops an enzugiri for a double down. Ospreay tries an Oscutter, but Taichi countered into a suplex. They get in the corner & Ospreay traps Taichi with Cheeky Nandos. He went for a 450, but Taichi got the knees up. Powerbomb by Taichi gets 2 as the britches came off. Ospreay hit a kick, tried Oscutter again, but was punted in mid air! Taichi & Ospreay both tried Black Mephisto and Storm Breaker, but neither was able to connect. Ospreay was finally able to hit the Oscutter for 2, so he hit Hidden Blade & Storm Breaker for the 3. I was very bored by this match, especially at almost 17 minutes. Taichi didn’t have his working boots on this match and it obviously shows when that’s the case. Ospreay’s was fine, but without an opponent with drive, his performance ultimately suffers as well.
Kota Ibushi vs. Minoru Suzuki Both in kickboxing stance to start as they trade kicks, which turns to slaps & strikes as Suzuki wrestles Ibushi down. Rope break as they do some solid mat based work & counters of submission attempts as Suzuki gets trapped in a triangle, but he picks Ibushi’s ankle, who answers with an ankle pick of his own. They roll into the ropes and neither man want to release the hold. Finally Suzuki rolls to the apron, tries to sucker Ibushi into the arm bar in the ropes, but Ibushi has it scouted & knocks Suzuki to the floor with a big boot. Suzuki storms up the ramp pissed, dares Ibushi to come after him, which he does. They have a forearm battle at the entrance, which Suzuki wins. Finally Red Shoes puts a count on this, right as Suzuki flattened Ibushi with strikes. Ibushi in at 17 as Suzuki keeps his punishment up. Ibushi keeps rising, almost asking for more, so Suzuki grants his wish & kicks the living shit out of him. Ibushi fires up with forearms and SUZUKI LAUGHS, dropping him with 1 forearm. Helluva Kick in the corner, Suzuki hits the ropes & Ibushi pops a dropkick. More striking combos from both as Ibushi is kicking Suzuki so hard in the chest, but SUZUKI DOESN’T FALL! The facial expressions on Suzuki are incredible as finally Ibushi kicks him all the way down. Toy kicks just wake up Suzuki, pissing him off, as he starts laughing again & face plants Ibushi with 1 forearm. Violent forearms from Suzuki as they trade boots, Ibushi with a roundhouse kick, SUZUKI NO SELLS, hits a forearm and BOTH collapse! THEY BOTH START LAUGHING WHILE THROWING LIKE 20 FOREARMS A PIECE!! Holy shit, then it turns to slaps before Suzuki ducks a shot sinks in a Rear Naked Choke, he tries for the Gotch, but Ibushi back drops out. He looks for Kamigoye, but Suzuki avoids it into a Boston Crab (almost Liontamer) as Ibushi rolled out, gets up & hits a jump knee. Standing Kamigoye, then a proper one for the 3 count! Holy shit, this match was fun! Suzuki has a smile on his face after the match! 16 minutes of pure awesome. I love you Minoru Suzuki, you glorious psychopath.
Kazuchika Okada vs. Shingo Takagi After such a fun match, I was completely uninterested in the slow feeling out process to start this. After your standard opening minutes, Okada tried a plancha, but Shingo moved & dropped him with a DDT outside. He chucked Okada into railing after railing, then slowly wore down Okada back inside. Finally Okada made a comeback after Shingo essentially dared him to fight back. Okada connected with a flapjack, hit a DDT of his own for 2. We’re already 10 minutes in, which is insane as not a whole lot has happened. Shingo hits a pop up DVD for a near fall, but Okada answered with an Air Raid Crash on his knee and Shingo clutched his neck. Match picks up as a forearm exchange turns to jabs, but Okada blocks, sets Shingo on the second rope, dropkicking him to the floor. Payback time from earlier, as Okada sent Shingo into all the railings before hitting a DDT out there as well. Slowly back in, Shingo blocks a Tombstone, hits a lariat, tries Noshigami and gets it after a struggle. Wheelbarrow suplex gets 2, as Shingo fires off a few 12/6 forearms, hits the ropes & Okada pops up for his dropkick and TOMBSTONE ON SHINGO’S HEAD! He landed weird as Money Clip is applied for the first time (I guarantee not the last) as Shingo promptly gets a rope break. Okada goes to the top, but Shingo cuts him off with headbutts and a HUGE superplex for 2. Corner lariat wakes Okada up, as they have a fast back & forth, Shingo rolls through a John Woo dropkick & hits a sliding lariat for the reset. Okada wants another Tombstone, Shingo got out with forearms & sliding uppercut! Made in Japan countered, Okada teased the roll up he’s won his last two matches with, but Shingo kicked out. Okada hit a Tombstone, then goes back to Money Clip, lets it go & hits a Rainmaker (which he hasn’t hit much this tournament). He goes for it again, but Shingo gets out and hits a Rainmaker of his own! Rainmaker pose by Shingo, who misses a Pumping Bomber, but does hit Made in Japan 1…2…KICK OUT!! Shingo absolutely murders Okada with a Pumping Bomber 1...2…NO!! Last of the Dragon countered, Money Clip countered, shotgun dropkick is rolled through by Shingo as he runs right into an Okada lariat!! Okada grabs the wrist as if he’s going to go for another Rainmaker, but instead locks on Money Clip. Shingo fights, subsequently fading, passing out. First 10 minutes were boring, but boy did it pick up. Shades of the old Okada in that final 17 minutes and that’s what made it a great main event. It also didn’t hurt that Shingo is one of the best in the world. Post match, Shingo made it known, he didn’t tap, he passed out.
A Block Standings 10 Points – Jay White, Will Ospreay, Kota Ibushi, Kazuchika Okada 6 Points – Taichi, Minoru Suzuki, Tomohiro Ishii, Shingo Takagi, Jeff Cobb
Out of Contention 0 Points – Yujiro Takahashi

Night 14 YOSHI-HASHI vs. Zack Sabre Jr. After an early back & forth, Sabre tries for a kimura, but YOSHI got the ropes. Sabre hit light kicks to wake YOSHI up, who chopped Zack down, only for Sabre to wrap up YOSHI like a pretzel. He had every upper body part tied up, but YOSHI got his toe on the ropes. YOSHI fought back with forearms & Zack with kicks, but a rewind kick planted ZSJ, allowing YOSHI time to recover. Series of strikes by YOSHI, who is straight murdering Zack with chops, then a series of dropkicks for 2. Powerbomb hits, as YOSHI sank in the Butterfly Lock, but Sabre got the ropes. Zack gets up & double stomps down on the arm, but YOSHI showed fighting spirit, popping up off a PK, fighting back with a lariat and Metora for 2. Zack counters Karma, but YOSHI drops him with a superkick, tries Karma again, but Zack leaps for a arm bar. YOSHI nearly rolls him up for 2, but Zack holds on & gets a triangle choke. YOSHI tries powering him up, but Sabre sinks in a crazy Rings of Saturn (using his legs though) as YOSHI has to submit. This was a very good match, one of YOSHI’s best of the tournament. IMO, he’s more than held his own in this G1.
Toru Yano vs. KENTA Rolls of tape were found in Yano’s trunks, as KENTA & Yano grab their briefcase & chair. Yano then opts for the buckle pad and we have a stalemate before anything has actually happened. The ref keeps counting to 3 to get both men to drop their weapons and KENTA keeps suckering Yano into dropping his. KENTA put the briefcase down & promptly stalled. Yano rolled out the opposite side and we get a game of chicken as the ref puts the count on them both. They beat it at 19, but KENTA bails again. 5 minutes into this thing, Yano finally sends KENTA into the railing & he sprays KENTA with sanitizer in the face. He smacks KENTA with the buckle pad at 17, but KENTA beats the count. Yano is sent into the exposed buckle & DDT’d down as KENTA grabs the sanitizer bottle, which he has quite a bit of trouble holding on to, it keeps slipping out of his hands. He sends Yano outside, where the referee is the one who gets dowsed with the sanitizer & he bumps! KENTA grabs his briefcase and heads up the entrance with Yano. He hits an uppercut with the briefcase on Yano and ROLLS OF TAPE ARE IN THE BRIEFCASE!! KENTA tapes Yano to the entrance structure as the ref puts a count on both men, KENTA sprints back at 16, beats the count, but Yano doesn’t. This match sucked ass, but the finish was at least funny. Yano has officially been eliminated from contention. With all the tiebreakers, KENTA actually is eliminated as well, despite this win.
Juice Robinson vs. SANADA Juice tried getting the early advantage, but SANADA dropkicked his leg out from under him. Juice fought off the Paradise Lock & hits a spinebuster. He tosses SANADA into the railing outside and tries for a countout, but only gets 16. SANADA rolls into a back breaker & standing senton for 2. Back body drop hits, but the cannonball doesn’t as SANADA hits his leapfrog dropkick & plancha outside, but we quickly go back inside. Juice tries Juice Box, but SANADA counters into the Paradise Lock, which gets the crowd going. The loudest reaction of the match came in anticipation of SANADA dropkicking Juice in the ass, which he did, for 2. SANADA moonsault out of the corner, looking for Skull End, but Juice moves & hits a Full Nelson slam. Huge cannonball connects as does the superplex/jackhammer combo at the 10 minute mark. Juice only got 2 as he hits a stiff corner lariat; SANADA flips out of the other corner, tries for a springboard, misses, tries for a hurricanrana, misses & Juice counters into a powerbomb for 2. Juice goes for a Left Hand, but SANADA tilt a whirl into Skull End. Juice scales the ropes into a counter, looks for Pulp Friction, misses; SANADA wants a moonsault, misses, but lands on his feet & gets the TKO into Skull End! Juice spins into Skull End, tries for Pulp Friction again, but SANADA dropkicks him. Moonsault into Skull End, Juice spins into an inside cradle 1…2…NO! Rollup by Juice, but SANADA rolls through into Skull End, he has it deep. He releases it & opts for the moonsault off the top for 3. First half of the match really had no urgency or intensity, but the second half of the match with all the counters was pretty fun. SANADA still keeping the prediction alive, winning out! But he has Tanahashi & EVIL as his last two matches, so if he wants to win this thing, he has to really work for it. Also, with this loss, Juice has officially been eliminated from contention.
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Hirooki Goto Battle of the best sellers of the B Block (no argument to be made there). No dicking around in this match, we get right down to wrestling with a solid standard back & forth opening sequence. Striking battle ends with Goto winning it, hitting a backdrop & running bulldog for 2. Tana regained control after avoiding Ushigoroshi, picking the leg & nailing a dragon screw. We get a super long forearm exchange before Tana hits a combo, spins, but Goto flattens him with a lariat! Friggin awesome back & forth there as Goto looks for GTR, but Tana spins out into a Dragon Sleeper. Goto spins, tries for a suplex, but Tana hits Twist & Shout. Goto has Sling Blade scouted, hits a lariat to the neck, hits the ropes, but Tana hits Sling Blade for 2! We’re already 10 minutes in and this match is flying by. Tana tries a straightjacket suplex, Goto fights out, but Tana starches him with a palm strike. He quickly goes up top, but Goto is right after him, looking for a superplex. Tana fights back before Goto gets Tana in a Fireman’s Carry while on the second rope and hits an AVALANCHE USIGOROSHI!!! That was fucking amazing as it was hit perfectly, but Goto gets only 2 as he’s really selling the leg. He hulks up, punts Tana in the chest & almost collapses himself at how much it hurt. Tana fights off GTR, but doesn’t avoid the modified one, which Goto hits. Tana nearly avoids a proper one with a roll up, but Goto had it scouted, wheelbarrows Tana up & hits GTR for the 3!! If any match needed to have 10 more minutes, it was this one. I really enjoyed this match, for the 12-13 minutes it went. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Hiroshi Tanahashi has officially been eliminated from contention. Tana doesn’t have a tie breaker over guys like EVIL or Naito, but can certainly play spoiler against SANADA (I hope not) and Sabre in his remaining matches.
Tetsuya Naito vs. EVIL I’ve counted, including this match here, these two, since July 12, have wrestled each other 21 TIMES. TWENTY ONE!! How in the hell am I supposed to get hyped for a match that’s happened in singles or tag matches 21 TIMES since July?? Naito got an early arm drag & rana sending EVIL outside, where he tried to get a chair, but Naito was able to thwart the attack, taking EVIL down in the ring & pulling at his hair while in a chin lock, transitioning to a crucifix using his legs. EVIL reverses a whip & Togo trips Naito, as EVIL takes the ref. It’s your standard bullshit, as Togo sends Naito into the railing before EVIL tries a suplex onto some chairs. Naito has it scouted, so EVIL hits a drop toe hold onto them. He wraps a chair around the head & hits a home run with another chair. Naito in at 16, but EVIL hits a neckbreaker for 2 before getting a chin lock, pulling the hair. EVIL slowly (and I do mean slowly) picks Naito apart, despite Naito showing flashes of counters. EVIL knows him so well he has counters to counters and then when things get tough, Togo just interferes like a jerk. Case in point, Naito sank in Pluma Blanca, but Togo popped up to cause the break. EVIL ran into him, spinebustered EVIL down & went back to Pluma Blanca. EVIL literally had a 3 count after rolling Naito to his back while in the submission, but Red Shoes didn’t count it until like 5 seconds later (thanks Red Shoes). EVIL counters a step up swinging DDT & hits a Fisherman’s Buster for a reset. Friggin massive superplex off the top rope gets a close 2 as EVIL goes for the Scorpion Deathlock. Naito gets the ropes as EVIL winds up for a lariat, Natio counters with a Koppo Kick & Gloria for 2! EVIL fakes running into the ref off a Destino attempt, Naito has the mule kick scouted, but EVIL gets him down & nails a leaping standing senton for the double down. EVIL sends Naito in the exposed buckle & hits a half and half German. Lariat turns Naito inside out for 2, but as EVIL looks for Darkness Falls, Naito turns it into Destino for the reset. They trade suplex attempts before Darkness Falls hits 1…2…NO! EVIL tries for his finish, but Naito counters both tries, Togo jumps in the ring & gets dropped. Ref checks on him, so EVIL hits a low blow to get time to recover. EVIL takes the ref while Togo chokes Naito, who leg sweeps Togo on the apron, dropping him to the floor. Enzugiri & flying forearm on EVIL as Naito signals for & hits Destino 1…2…KICK OUT!! Naito wants another flush, tries, but EVIL counters into Everything Is EVIL for the 3! For the sake of this block, EVIL had to win to make the rest of the nights mean something. That said, I know we’re getting EVIL vs Naito again soon, I just pray it’s not at Wrestle Kingdom.
B Block Standings 10 Points – Tetsuya Naito, EVIL 8 Points – Hirooki Goto, SANADA, Zack Sabre Jr.
Out of Contention 6 Points – KENTA, Toru Yano, Juice Robinson, Hiroshi Tanahashi 2 Points – YOSHI-HASHI

Night 15 Will Ospreay vs. Jeff Cobb Bell sounds & Ospreay immediately shotgun dropkicks Cobb to the corner, but he throws a chop & forearm, which wakes Cobb up. Cobb hits 1 chop and Ospreay falls like a mannequin, but he pops up & hits a rana sending Cobb outside. Ospreay tries a handspring, but Cobb jumps on the apron & gut wrenches him THROUGH THE ROPES, faking a powerbomb to the floor, but Ospreay flips into the ring, knocks Cobb to the floor & hits the Sasuke Special! Holy shit, we’re 30 seconds into this! Dropkick in the corner gets Ospreay 2, so he tries Pip Pip Cheerio, but Cobb catches him with an overhead belly to belly. Leaping corner uppercut & stalling back suplex get Cobb 2. He slaps on a bear hug, a move I have no idea why he hasn’t used in the G1 up to this point. Ospreay fights out, Cobb hits revolution gut wrenches, then powers Ospreay up in a choke, but Ospreay dropkicks out. Handspring wheel kick, atomic drop, Cobb bumps him with a chop, misses a standing moonsault, so Ospreay hits a standing shooting star. Pip Pip Cheerio connects for 2 as he tries Hidden Blade, misses, Cobb hits a lariat, standing moonsault for 2. Cobb tries a clothesline, but Ospreay goes round the world into a Code Red for a close near fall. Cobb backdrops out of Storm Breaker, but Ospreay hits a wall walk dropkick, superkick, Cobb answers with a superkick of his own, charges, Ospreay with the standing Spanish Fly 1…2…NO! Springboard 450 out of the corner 1…2…NO! Ospreay with a superkick & hook kick, tries Oscutter, but Cobb blocks into the F-500 for 2!! Tour of the Islands blocked, Oscutter blocked, Cobb caught him, but chucked Ospreay into the corner, where he sprung out with the Oscutter 1…2…NO! Ospreay tries Storm Breaker, but Cobb hits Kenny Omega’s CROYT’S WRATH, then a Tour of the Islands 1…2…3!! They fit 22-25 minutes worth of stuff into 12 and it fucking ruled.
Kota Ibushi vs. Yujiro Takahashi For someone who hasn’t won a match yet, Yujiro stalling early seems like a questionable tactic. Ibushi chases after him & back inside Yujiro hits forearms, but Ibushi hits 1 dropkick and Yujiro rolls outside again. He drags Ibushi out, rakes the eyes & chucks him into the railing before hitting a reverse DDT. Yujiro with super slow offense back inside, as Ibushi gets 1 shot off before Yujiro tries a Fisherman’s Buster, but settles on a standard suplex after a fight from Ibushi initially. Yujiro charges & Ibushi hits a leaping kick to get his first real advantage in this one as he lights Yujiro up with kicks & standing moonsault for 2. Yujiro hits a Hot Shot, running boot & lariat turns Ibushi inside out for 2. Ibushi avoids Miami Shine, Yujiro tries a sliding D, but Ibushi with a double stomp in mid air! Yujiro bites at the hand & they both trade a series of counters before Ibushi hits a Buzzsaw Kick, tries Last Ride, but Yujiro counters into an Angle Slam in the best moment of the match thus far. AVALANCE FISHERMAN’S BUSTER, then a proper Fisherman’s Buster 1…2…KICK OUT!! Holy shit, Yujiro almost killed Ibushi with that avalanche. Pimp Juice blocked, superkick blocked, backslide by Ibushi, Kamigoye blocked, Yujiro looks for Miami Shine, Ibushi wiggles out, V-Trigger, Kamigoye, 3 count! Why couldn’t the rest of the match be like the last 2 minutes? It was like 2 completely different matches. First half was the worst Ibushi of the tournament (which he’s been awesome this whole time, I know), but the last 2 were Yujiro’s best.
Shingo Takagi vs. Taichi Standard little back & forth to start, with Shingo being sent outside & Taichi doing the hammer work, VINTAGE TAICHI! Back inside, slow offense by Taichi, until Shingo hits one forearm and it wakes Taichi up, who violently throws Shingo down. He tries for a backdrop driver, but Shingo fights free and hits one of his own. Kitchen sink knee, suplex, sliding D combo get a 2 count as the camera zooms in on Taichi, who was too busy making sure his pants didn’t fall off before selling what he just took. Shingo eats a corner boot & pump kick as Taichi again makes sure the pants are coming off yet. They trade back elbows before Shingo hits a snap jab, lariat & Noshigami for 2. Made in Japan blocked, Pumping Bomber no sold by Taichi, big boot no sold by Shingo, they trade chops & kicks, which goes on for a while. They trade Axe & Pumping Bombers before colliding at the same time and Taichi nails a snap Backdrop Driver for the reset. That was a friggin awesome back & forth spot as Taichi hits an Axe Bomber that clobbers Shingo for a 2 count. The pants finally come off, but he takes too long as Shingo charges and clocks Taichi with a lariat. Made in Japan blocked, Taichi shoves the ref, tries a low blow, but Shingo scouts it, Gedo Clutch 1…2…NO! He winds up the arm for a Pumping Bomber, but Taichi tries a high kick, Shingo ducks, Made in Japan 1…2…NO! Pumping Bomber hits so hard sweat bursts off Taichi 1…2…KICK OUT! Last of the Dragon attempt, but Taichi rakes the eyes, Buzzsaw Kick, TAICHI HITS LAST OF THE DRAGON 1…2…NO! Hook kick blocked, but enzugiri hits, Gedo Clutch 1…2…NO! They trade strikes, struggling to stay standing before Taichi hits a stiff superkick & Black Mephisto 1…2…3!! Slow, boring, standard Taichi start, but holy shit this kicked into high gear and it turned into the best Taichi match of the tournament. I was blown away by the second half of this match.
Minoru Suzuki vs. Jay White First 5 minutes was Switchblade stalling every way possible. Suzuki didn’t have time for this bullshit, as he grabs the wrist & wrenches away, chopping in the corner. Helluva Kick connects as Suzuki sinks in the rope assisted triangle. Gedo was going to attack, but Suzuki (upside down mind you) death stares Gedo, who backs up slowly. White recovers & we get a brawl on the floor before Switchblade is on the attack inside with boots & neckbreaker. White makes the biggest mistake of his career, tapping Suzuki with kicks, waking Murder Grandpa up, who rises, but White rakes the eyes. Gedo grabs a chair, takes the ref & White gets another chair, but Suzuki gets it away and starts going nuts with it before Red Shoes takes it from him. White hits a suplex into the corner, tries a Uranage, but Suzuki fights out. White hits forearms and Suzuki gives the death stare again, flattening White with a forearm. These are so violent White tumbles outside, he slowly rolls back in & the murder tour continues. Switchblade finally stops it, chop blocking Suzuki’s leg, which is what he focuses on before he starts throwing chops. ON HIS KNEES, SUZUKI CRAWLS AFTER WHITE WANTING MORE CHOPS! He rises, but White kicks out the leg & DDTs him down. Kiwi Crusher avoided, striking combo by Suzuki sends Jay outside yet again. He’s able to sucker Suzuki in & wipes out the leg once more, but before he can sink in a leg lock, Suzuki counters into an ankle pick badly, but Jay gets the ropes. Suzuki lifts White by his goatee & murders him with a forearm, goes for it again, but Gedo runs distraction and White hits a Blade Buster. He goes for Blade Runner, but Suzuki leaps up into a cross arm breaker counter! JAY TAPS OUT but Gedo has the ref! Suzuki lets the hold go in order to punch out Gedo, he lights White up with strikes, they trade finisher attempts until Suzuki drops him with another forearm. Rear Naked Choke applied, Gotch attempt, Gedo trips the ref, allowing White to get a low blow & Blade Runner for the 3 count. This was a really great match, as Gedo & White overcame the onslaught and White’s selling & Suzuki’s facial expressions made this really strong stuff. Post match, Suzuki has to be pulled away from Red Shoes, as he’s in his face screaming at him giving him a death stare up the ramp before dropping a few young lions.
Kazuchika Okada vs. Tomohiro Ishii Feeling out process lasted a few minutes before we transitioned into counters, as these two have wrestled so much they have each other scouted quite well. Neckbreaker by Okada doesn’t even get a 1 count before he applies a rest hold. Ishii gets out and starts chopping away while selling his taped up leg. Chops aplenty as Okada crumbles before Ishii wakes him up with light slaps, so that’s all Okada needed to start no selling. He throws his bad looking forearms before Ishii CHOPS HIM IN THE THROAT repeatedly! Okada hits a flying forearm & back elbow, but Ishii hits an uppercut headbutt to the midsection as Okada sells it incredibly. Ishii starts slapping him, so Okada fires off a forearm & DDT that Ishii sells like he’s Rob Van Dam for a 2 count. He gets Ishii up to have a forearm battle (bad move) as it takes Ishii about 4 before he flattens Okada. They go to the top & have a forearm battle up there as Okada knocks Ishii down, Ishii tries his uppercut headbutt, but Okada forearms him in the air and hits an Air Raid Crash neckbreaker. They slowly rise and Okada no sells a snap powerslam, but Ishii hits a German suplex into the corner and Okada has stars in his eyes! Ishii puts him in the corner again & hits the stalling superplex for a close 2. Okada ducks a lariat, but eats a jump kick. Forearms by Ishii, but he runs into the Okada dropkick and Tombstone. Okada grabs the wrist & slaps on Money Clip (something tells me that won’t be the only time he has this hold on) as Ishii crawls to the ropes. Uppercuts by Okada, who goes for another Tombstone, but Ishii wiggles free & hits a release German. They do the false finish backdrop/sit down spot Okada has won matches with before, but Ishii kicks out. They do some counter strikes before Okada hits a Shotgun Dropkick, Ishii rolls through, Sliding D blocked as Okada gets Money Clip again. Ishii spins out, hits a DDT and a kimura is applied into an arm breaker! Okada gets a rope break, but Ishii locks in an arm bar through the ropes before Red Shoes tells him to let it go. Okada sets up Ishii on the second, hits his dropkick, but clutches his arm, allowing Ishii to no sell & hits a King Kong Knee (shout out Makabe) off the second and Sliding D for 1…2…NO! He charges, but Okada hits a desperation Tombstone for the double down. Okada tries a Rainmaker, but ISHII HEADBUTTS HIM, hits the ropes, Okada nails his dropkick, uppercut, SPINNING RAINMAKER, then sinks in Money Clip a third time. Ishii’s fight slowly fades before Okada tries to hit a back breaker off of it (like Randy Orton does), but Ishii bursts up with an uppercut headbutt! HE’S STILL ALIVE! Lariat folds Okada up 1…2…KICK OUT! Ishii signals for the end Vertical Drop Brainbuster countered into Money Clip, but Ishii hits a lungblower to escape! They trade backslides until Okada demolishes Ishii with a Rainmaker, dropkick, then Money Clip a 5th time in the center of the ring. He hits the backbreaker to sink it in better and Ishii fades. Fucking phenomenal main event.
A Block Standings 12 Points – Kota Ibushi, Jay White, Kazuchika Okada 10 Points – Will Ospreay
Out of Contention 8 Points – Jeff Cobb, Taichi 6 Points – Minoru Suzuki, Tomohiro Ishii, Shingo Takagi 0 Points – Yujiro Takahashi

Night 16 YOSHI-HASHI vs. KENTA This is the one match of the night with no implications for the rest of the tournament as KENTA has mathematically been eliminated with tiebreakers, even if he wins out. It was your standard KENTA slow start, but it gained momentum in the second half of the match. I feel so bad for YOSHI this tournament, he’s really had strong showings for him & has only had 1 win. This had some good counters at the end & striking battles and KENTA hit his diving foot stomp that essentially was a Whoopie Cushion sitting on YOSHI’s chest. Anyways, YOSHI blocked GTS, but KENTA blocked Karma, ultimately sinking Game Over for the submission.
Juice Robinson vs. Zack Sabre Jr. In between cosplaying as a Blues Brother, Juice has clearly done his homework on ZSJ, as he had literally everything scouted in the opening minutes. Finally Sabre got the arm & wrist and went right to work, wrenching away. Juice fought back with jabs (with the good arm) and a spinebsuter before going to the top for I assume a superplex, but Sabre cranked at the wrist, getting a leaping guillotine. Juice fought out, looked for a suplex counter, but Sabre wiggled into yet another submission attempt before Juice got the ropes. Robinson made another comeback, looking for Juice Box, but Zack countered into a PK & Tornado DDT for 2. Armbar into the triangle sank in, but the We Will Rock You clap that Juice has really tried to get the crowd to do this tournament, worked, as he hulked up & escaped the submission with a powerbomb. Cannonball in the corner connects, but as he went for Pulp Friction, Zack turned it into the Octopus Hold! Juice wouldn’t quit & turned it into Juice Box for a near fall. Pulp Friction attempt again, but Zack cradled, Juice cradled, Zack with the Euro Clutch for the 3! I wish this match was earlier in the tournament, as it was good, but not great. I like this pairing, so hopefully we’ll see more down the line. With this win though, Sabre stays alive into the final night, but he needs a ridiculous amount to happen.
Toru Yano vs. Tetsuya Naito I will shit myself if Yano is the one who eliminates Naito from this tournament (statistically it could happen with tiebreakers). They take turns stalling and Naito got a super close near fall off a school boy as Yano bails outside. Naito had a chair in the ring and despite that, the ref put a count on Yano, who was scared to roll back in & get hit. He finally did at 19 as Naito just put the chair down & beat down Yano. Low bridge sends Naito to the floor as YANO CALLS FOR A PLANCHA, hits the ropes, Naito ducks and Yano mocks the somersault pose Naito does. It’s a race to see who can untie a corner pad first, Yano wins & smacks Naito to the floor. Yano gets his tape, Naito avoids it, only to get sent into the railing by Yano, who grabs his bottle of sanitizer. He sprats Naito in the eyes & takes out Yota Tsuji as well. He tapes them both together through the railing & Tsuji has to literally crawl through the railing & they both leap into the ring at 19. With them still taped together, they hit a double clothesline on Yano & free themselves. Naito thanks Tsuji & offers the LIJ fist bump, which Yota accepts, only for Naito to bodyslam him onto Yano. This is great stuff. Naito looks to bodyslam the ref onto Yano, but thinks better, gets low blowed by Yano though, headbutt to the ass, roll up, Naito gets free, pop up low blow & somersault cradle for the 3! This was the most fun Yano match of the tournament and I’ll gladly watch this over Naito vs EVIL.
Hirooki Goto vs. EVIL After an early Goto start, he was tripped by Togo & slammed into the railing. EVIL took over with his chair around the head, home run smack before heading inside. Goto sent into the exposed corner buckle, but Goto turned the tables with some forearms & gave EVIL a taste of his own medicine sending him into the exposed buckle. Saito suplex connects, as does a corner wheel kick & running bulldog to give Goto 2. EVIL avoids Ushigoroshi and got the ref assisted boot to the gut, looked for Darkness falls, but a misdirection by Goto leads to Ushigoroshi! Goto went up top, but Togo ran distraction, allowing for EVIL to toss him to the mat & a lariat for 2. Darkness Falls connects 1…2…NO! EVIL wants his finisher, but Goto gets out & knocks EVIL outside. GOTO WITH A SLINGSHOT PLANCHA onto EVIL & Togo!! He rolls EVIL back in & hits a top rope elbow drop 1…2…NO! GTR blocked with an eye rake, so Goto hits a few lariats, only EVIL doesn’t go down & takes the ref. Goto gets choked by Togo, who is hit with Ushigoroshi for his efforts. EVIL attacks, but Goto drops him with a kick, hits reverse GTR 1…2…KICK OUT! They trade finisher attempts before EVIL sends Goto into the ref, tries a low block, Goto blocks, but EVIL connects with Everything is EVIL for the 3. The least amount of Togo interference in an EVIL match this tournament I think, which I’m thankful for. Goto has officially been eliminated.
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. SANADA After losing his first 3 matches, I said in order for SANADA to win the A Block, he’d have to win out and he’s done just that thus far. Really strong mat work by both to start, with neither able to string together a lot before being countered by their opponent. This dominates the first 5 minutes before Tana tries a surfboard, but SANADA rolls free & we get a stalemate. They both catch kicks & slowly lower their legs, but SANADA suckers Tana into a Paradise Lock attempt. Tana counters & dropkicks out the leg, going to work on it. Tana looks for an Indian Death Lock, but instead of turning to his stomach, bridges up & SANADA screams before getting the ropes. SANADA blocks a kick & hits a dragon screw to get some time to recover. Leapfrog dropkick & the plancha outside connect as SANADA is in firm control at the 10 minute mark. He traps Tana in the Paradise Lock in the middle of the ring, dropkicking him in the ass as he tries for a Paradise Lock in the ropes & gets it. He frees Tana, looks for TKO, Tana spins out & blocks a SANADA kick, dropkicking the leg & hitting a dragon screw sending SANADA outside. Top rope High Fly Flow cross body connects as both men are down before Tana gets back in & SANADA beats the count at 19. Dragon screw through the ropes & the Cloverleaf applied, but SANADA slowly crawls to the ropes. SANADA wanted a TKO, but Tana hits two Twist & Shouts, went for a third, but SANADA hits an Ego Trip off the ropes & finally got his TKO for 2. Missile dropkick out of the corner as SANADA tries a moonsault, Tana moves & he lands on his feet, but sells the bad leg. Sling Blade by Tana & straightjacket German 1…2…NO! High Fly Flow attempt, but SANADA gets his knees up! Backflip out the corner into Skull End n the middle of the ring with the body scissors. Tana cranks at the bad leg of SANADA, who repositions & sinks it in deeper. He releases it, goes for the moonsault, but Tana gets the knees up! Tana hits multiple dragon screws before trying for a Cloverleaf again. SANADA kicks free, tries for a jumping hurricanrana, but Tana puts the brakes on & gets the Cloverleaf at the 25 minute call! SANADA valiantly gets to the ropes, they trade cradle attempts, Tana nearly gets it off a rolling cradle, but he rolls right into Skull End. They take turns back flipping into the dragon sleeper, but Tana hits a Sling Blade! He goes up top for a cross bdoy High…Fly…SANADA WITH A TKO IN MID AIR!! 2 minutes left as SANADA hits 1 moonsault to the back, then another proper one for the 1…2…3!! SANADA WINS IT!! HE STAYS ALIVE!! What a great story & match this was. I loved it.
B Block Standings 12 Points – Tetsuya Naito, EVIL 10 Points – SANADA, Zack Sabre Jr.
Out of Contention 8 Points – Hirooki Goto 6 Points – KENTA, Toru Yano, Juice Robinson, Hiroshi Tanahashi 2 Points – YOSHI-HASHI

Here's some mind numbing math on who needs what to happen in order to win. It's down to 4 guys in each block that have chances at winning this thing. Remember, Draws are 1 point, No Contests are 0 points.
A Block Okada (2 options)
-Needs to defeat Ospreay and also White & Ibushi need to lose/draw/no contest in their matches
-Needs to draw Ospreay and also White & Ibushi need to lose/no contest (not a draw though)
White -Needs to defeat Ishii
Ibushi -Needs to defeat Taichi and also White lose/draw/no contests against Ishii
Ospreay -Needs to defeat Okada and White & Ibushi need to lose/no contest their matches
B Block EVIL (2 options)
-Needs to defeat SANADA -Draw/No Contest with SANADA and also Naito loses to KENTA & Sabre loses/draws against Tanahashi
Naito -Needs to defeat/draw KENTA and EVIL loses/no contests SANADA
SANADA -Needs to defeat EVIL and Naito loses/no contests KENTA
Sabre -Needs to defeat Tanahashi, Naito to lose and SANADA/EVIL to end in a no contest
I think it all comes down to SANADA/EVIL and Ospreay/Okada. I think SANADA wins the B Block and defeats Okada to win the G1 and get a shot at Naito at Wrestle Kingdom. There's going to be backlash if Ospreay wins it all, especially with everything going on with him outside of the ring. Okada has been in it too much and I would literally cry if EVIL won the G1 and we got Naito/EVIL again.
