So I just watched Rivals Episode 1 about Bret and Shawn. It’s everything you know already but new interviews about it saying the same thing.
It seemed like this was going to be a round table hosted by Freddie Prinze Jr, but he was on it about 2 minutes of the hour? Kevin Nash, JBL, Tamina (for some reason, didn’t talk until 48 mins into this thing) & Kofi (who I think said one sentence) were the table.
It’s just another rehashed mini doc. I’ll DVR the show, but fast forward through a bunch of it going forward.
Probably do the same with the 2 hour Taker doc. Like, how many new stories are there? I’m expecting it to be the same old stuff.

The lineup for this Rivals show is…
Bret vs Shawn Rock vs Austin Edge vs Cena Trips vs Foley Lesnar vs Angle Guerrero vs Mysterio
Stephanie vs Brie Bella?? I’m sorry, what?

Ok, I was wrong. First hour of the Taker doc is really good stuff. Interviews with folks I’d never seen before, old footage and photos. Taker & his mother talking. 1 hour in and we’re just getting to Paul Bearer. So that’s a positive.

Shane vs Stephanie could’ve been fun. 1 hour mini doc about a sibling rivalry.
But instead we get a feud that was pretty much highlighted by a better than it should’ve been PPV match and the Triple H famous Nikki Bella gif of him licking his lips.
That and Stephanie getting arrested that one RAW where the dress she wore made her boobs so far apart it was troubling.
Literally all I remember about that “legendary feud”.

I still can’t believe they gave away Hogan & Goldberg on Nitro on 6 days notice and never did a rematch.
Wonder why WCW went out of business?

It’s a legendary moment, but man, Hogan went off and did the Malone & Leno matches and then we got the Warrior debacle.
That whole time Goldberg beat Hennig, won a battle royal, did the brief Greenberg bit, had his best match ever with DDP and then lost the streak.
It was just so much what could’ve been.

We’re just getting to Bret’s thoughts on the Starrcade 99 match.
“Don’t hurt me.”
Bill hurt him.

Goldberg said Bret doesn't know Goldberg if he thinks he hurt him on purpose. Then he said to be Goldberg, and you have to become Godzilla. For the record, I don't think he hurt Bret on purpose. But I don't think he understands or doesn't want to understand the issue. He also said he has to become a dangerous beast that does things. Oh Goldberg.

As upsetting as the kick to Bret was, the follow-up made me stop watching WCW regularly for good.
Goldberg slicing his fucking arm breaking limo windows, effectively killing 6 months of TV was the last straw for me.
The Radicalz appearing on the 1/31/00 Raw was the dirt on the coffin.

Completely didn’t mention heel Goldberg in 2000. What a gem of a run that was. “He’s not sticking to the script” Scott Hudson said when Goldberg walked out in a triple threat one time, lol. Kayfabe brother. Russo era was so bad.

I don't usually watch things live. These commercials are jarring. I saw fucking Mancow. MANCOW!

Wait, Goldberg’s wife was a stunt woman, she didn’t know who Goldberg was, took a job, thought it was Goldblum and was working with Jeff Goldblum on Santa’s Slay. They were married 3 months later. Still married. That’s crazy. Good for them.
I’m skipping next week. Sorry, I can’t do a 2 hour biography on the Bellas.

That was Russo’s darkest/finest hour. Judy Bagwell on a forklift. The Canadian Rules match. Mud match. Strap match where Kidman legit hung himself. Gold record ladder match. Sting vs The Demon. Wrestlecrap Hall of Fame

If I hear Bruce tell the story about Kane and the Undertaker one more time, I'm going to really complain about it on the internet.

The Luger doc is a DVD I would have purchased at Best Buy the morning it came out. It's on A&E. Crazy.

Watching the Monday Night Wars Rivals show, I don't know why, we've heard it all before.
But I just hate how they constantly make it seem like Madusa dumping the WWF Women's Title was this monumental thing. Vince was barely using her, didn't like the division, even WCW barely used Madusa. But you have that dork Sam Roberts talking about how the line in the sand was drawn. The fuck out of here. And Stephanie talking about how that was such a dirty tactic.
Revisionist history I know, but I just get so annoyed at how WWF/E plays victim to this shit.
Sucks they cut Nash's "look at the adjective, play" line, lol

The Madusa trash can thing wasn't even significant to WCW at the time. Bischoff signed her just to sign her and outside of the women's match at World War 3 '95, there was no women's division to speak of. I also hate revisionist history. They play victim about shit like Medusa, but completely forget about 1991 when Flair paraded the WCW World Title belt on their program for three months.

Stats for Madusa matches in WCW against actual women from 95/97 (she wrestled Col. Parker 4 times, whatever)
35 Total Matches
6 House Shows 5 PPVs (3 of which were against Akira Hokuto, she lost every one)
5 Nitros
4 Dark Matches
3 Saturday Nights 3 Worldwides 2 Main Events 1 Pro 1 Clash of the Champions
If you go to the 99/00 time, she wrestled (using that term loosely) in mostly mix tags, against men, stip matches or whatever. Her longest match during those years went 3:35 at Starrcade 99 against Evan Karagias.
WCW sucked, but Madusa was a fucking afterthought as soon as she dropped that title in the trash. Eric got his moment (I guess?) and didn't need her anymore. Madusa in 91/92 with the Dangerous Alliance blew the other eras out of the water.

I've said this before, but I don't know how you can watch the Edge doc and not at least understand why some people dig pro wrestling.

Watching it, they’re showing Rey vs Malenko at the 96 Bash and Hogan said he was backstage watching and said “whoa, what was that?”
YOU WEREN’T THERE TERRY!
Also thanks Sam Roberts for explaining Lucha Libre culture to us.
Eric regrets the unmasking, but said said he’d do it again if he had the same data & info he had back then. Man, does Eric suck.
