I really hope you're right about Willow.
I can't imagine them not putting Mercedes over in her debut though.
She can't win clean though. Protect Willow in the process.

I really hope you're right about Willow. I can't imagine them not putting Mercedes over in her debut though. She can't win clean though. Protect Willow in the process. It might just be wishful thinking but Willow has put in the work. She's great in the ring, she's a great promo, she's a great ambassador for AEW. I can't get enough of her. Mercedes on the other hand hasn't wrestled yet, is a questionable promo (at least as a face) So there's this part of me thinking that if Mercedes comes in and wins a championship in her first match, you're clearly saying that the AEW's women's roster is kinda trash. There's another part of me saying, well ya duh Mercedes should come in and win the title in her first match because she's the best ever. Anywho, I guess in my Icehouse thoughts, I'm seeing it going one of a couple ways. Stat does some sort of thing that helps Willow win, Willow admonishes her because Willow didn't want to win that way etc.... or Britt or Hayter interferes, Willow wins, and Britt or Hayter (probably especially Britt) says something like you don't deserve to come in here and just win a championship or whatever. Britt goes face, Mercedes goes heel, doesn't need a belt and can continue for months. Like I said, might just be the Icehouse talking.

Statlander or Stokely costing Willow the match, either accidentally or on purpose, should be how the match ends. It protects Willow, and sets her up with potential feuds going forward.

I like your Britt/Hayter idea. And you're right about Mercedes not needing a title.
I'm very concerned about Willow's momentum. A loss to Mercedes can knock her down into irrelevance, unless they do the smart thing and have Mercedes turn full heel and then have Willow chase her for an eventual rematch. That's the only way I could see Willow losing but staying strong.
This one is really delicate.

The AEW crowd doesn’t seem to be digging Mercedes all that much. Her gimmick/positioning is kind of weird for a face right now too. I don’t get the point of a face vs face match in a newly signed face’s first match. It’s extremely odd booking. Mercedes has to turn heel in this match. The crowd is not going to adopt her as a face champion coming out of this match.

A Mercedes heel turn is the only way this experiment will work. Otherwise it'll be like Cody's last days with the company when he was getting booed out of every building.

Her entire gimmick is presenting an assumptive belief she's the greatest of all time while not really being the best of all time. She should be fine as a heel.

I already thought she did turn heel a couple weeks ago.
She's gonna get cheered by the crowd during her entrance. But she needs to not do the crying stuff if/when she wins.

I didn't know that, but I haven't watched in a while. If so, then good. Yeah, no crying stuff at this point. She's a ring veteran. Winning titles should be second nature for her character. No WWE emotional BS.

I thought she kind of embraced the heel role in the contract signing a couple weeks ago, and again in the video last week.

I hope during Anarchy in the Arena tomorrow, they do the Bash at the Beach '96 moment with Danielson in the Luger role and Hangman in the Hogan role.
Excalibur as Heenan and Taz as Dusty on commentary too.

Seeing online talk of not wanting to miss the start of the show.
No idea what it means, but sounds promising.
