If 5 stars is the max, you can't make up some shit and give it 6 stars. He's such a putz. He's no different than movie reviewers or any other type of reviewer. Everyone's tastes are different. I put zero weight into reviews. Some people tell me Super Troopers is awesome. I thought it was the worst movie that I had ever seen until I saw Good Burger. And hell, some people like that as well. The difference is Ebert didn't give 3 thumbs up for Shawshank Redemption. It's fucking dumb and he's become a desperate attention whore in a crowded wresting content world. He somehow cheapened himself. /\/\/\/\/\

I find him far more annoying than I do entertaining. It's not 100% annoying though, so I'll at least give him that.

New Beginning in Osaka was last night and featured another great match between Naito and Elgin.
Go out of your way to check it out.
Also Los Ingobernables now has the IC title, the Jr Heavyweight title, and the NEVER Openweight 6 man titles.
Suzuki-Gun has come in and basically done nothing. Kind of disappointing. Maybe it picks up in the summer.

New Japan Pro Wrestling veteran Tomoaki Honma had to be stretchered out of an event on Friday after suffering a severe injury during his match.
Honma was competing in a six-man tag match alongside Togi Makabe and Michael Elgin against Jado, Toru Yano and Tomohiro Ishii when the incident occured.
According to those in attendance … Jado hit the 40-year-old with a DDT late in the match, but the wrestler landed wrong due to one of his feet being caught in the ropes. He then became unresponsive.
Doctors immediately checked on Tomoaki and he was put on a stretcher, then taken to a hospital.
No further word on his condition, but we’ll keep you updated.

NJPW medical trainer Takeshi Misawa announced a comment about the current situation of Tomoaki Honma’s injury before the match at Ota on March 6.
Misawa: Honma suffered an injury to his spinal column. There was swelling between the third and fourth cervical vertebrae, which led to some paralysis. The following day, he was gradually able to regain some motion in his hands and feet. Now he is able to move his feet a fair amount, and he can grip objects and bend his elbow. He is making progress day by day. The biggest worry with an injury between the third and fourth vertebrae is the effect it can have on circulation and respiration. At this point he is out of the most dangerous period of the first couple of days after the injury. As such he was moved from the ICU this afternoon and we hope he will continue to recover from there.
There's a much longer answer on the New Japan site & Misawa going into more detail, but at least there's a little good news for Honma after such a scary (and still scary) situation.

I'm not going to post it, but I might just be a pussy. There's a picture of him laying on the mat with people tending to him. It looks like he has a neck brace on, but it's his neck. Freaked me out.

Yeah I'm not posting it either. Apparently he was talking in the ring after this happened, but still, I agree, it's really unsettling to see the pic. Rather not post it.

Sabre debuted in New Japan last night at the 45th anniversary show (which I'm going to watch tomorrow). He joined Suzuki-gun, which is a good thing in my books.
New Japan Cup I believe starts this weekend. Night 2 (March 12th) is the night to really watch as Shibata/Suzuki and OMEGA/ISHII are matches in the 1st round! Should be awesome.
The left side of the bracket (March 11th) •Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. EVIL •Yuji Nagata vs. Tanga Roa •Michael Elgin vs. Bad Luck Fale •Toru Yano vs. Tama Tonga
The right side of the bracket (March 12th) •Katsuyori Shibata vs. Minoru Suzuki •Juice Robinson vs. Yujiro Takahashi •Tomohiro Ishii vs. Kenny Omega •YOSHI-HASHI vs. SANADA

Night 1 of the New Japan Cup was this morning (or overnight). I'm watching just the tournament matches right now & will get caught up on the others later.
Yuji Nagata beat Tanga Roa. Very slow match to start, but really kicked into gear toward the end. Nagata hit a bridging Saito suplex for the win. I thought Roa would take it, especially since Nagata was a replacement for Honma, but it was an ok little match to start the tourney.
Toru Yano beat Tama Tonga. 3 minute comedy match. Yano hit all of his go to spots. I actually like Tonga, wish he got more of a chance. Yano won via low blow & rollup.
In an upset Bad Luck Fale pinned Michael Elgin after a Umaga-esque Samoan Spike. Big Mike showed off some good power moves, but damn, even the crowd wasn't expecting this. Not sure I like this result, but maybe they didn't want Bullet Club going 0-3 in night 1?
EVIL beat Tanahashi in the main event. Massive upset here, but it was a hell of a match, easily the best EVIL match I've seen. Hard hitting, fans were into it, ref bump at the end led to EVIL misting Tanahashi & hitting the STO for the win.
Not the strongest of names advancing, but EVIL vs Nagata and Yano vs Fale in the semis of Block A.
Tomorrow's tournament matches should be awesome.

EVIL going over was huge.
Getting him into the upper mid-card/lower main-event sets up the eventual Los Ingobernables split with an opponent ready for Naito.

Ok, just getting going on Day 2.
Juice over Yujiro. I thought it was just ok. Not a fan of Yujiro's in ring work. His gimmick & lovely valet on the other hand, different story. I fully approve of the ridiculous camera angles the creep of a cameraman gets. Juice deserved to advance. He's been getting pushed more & is over with the crowd. Good for him.
Sanada over Yoshi-Hashi. Really good match. Fast paced at the start, but slowed toward the end due to the toll the moves took on both guys. Sanada hit the springboard backflip into a dragon sleeper for the finish, really cool looking.
Suzuki vs Shibata is about to start. This should be fucking awesome.

I'm at the point of the match where they've traded like 50 forearms back & forth. The sounds they make are brutal. This is so damn hard hitting.
Which, I shouldn't be surprised by considering who is wrestling, but still.

Shibata over Suzuki via PK. I need to take some Tylenol after that. Damn that was stiff as shit. Suzuki is so awesome, so happy he's back in NJPW.
Omega vs Ishii next in the final opening round match. I'm skipping entrances & going right to the start of the match.

Ishii over Omega in a hell of a match! One of the best New Japan matches of the year. Doesn't come close to Omega/Okada, but still, wow. Omega went for One Winged Angel, but Ishii turned it into a stunner! It took so much to put Omega away, that I was fine with the result. Headbutt, lariat, brainbuster. Fucking awesome.
When I started seeing big names get eliminated (Elgin, Suzuki, Tanahashi), this tournament I think has become more about who will face Naito for the IC title than challenging for the World title. Which is fine by me. G1 is about the World title. So this is a way to build a new name.
EVIL vs. Yuji Nagata Bad Luck Fale vs. Toru Yano Katsuyori Shibata vs. Juice Robinson Tomohiro Ishii vs. SANADA
I like your idea Peeps about EVIL possibly coming out of this a contender for Naito's title. Juice Robinson could be the wildcard too. However I really want to see Shibata/Ishii again. The unpredictability is what makes this so enjoyable.

EVIL beat Yuji Nagata to advance. I tried to find it on the website, but couldn't. Hopefully I'll be able to see the rest of the matches. Really want to see Juice/Shibata and Ishii/SANADA

Just watched EVIL/Nagata & Yano/Fale.
I thought EVIL/Nagata was a good little match. Nothing flashy or major happened, just a hard hitting 10-12 minute match. Nagata still impresses the shit out of me for his age. EVIL has been improving a bunch over the past year too. Right man went over in this one.
Yano/Fale was exactly what I expected, an ugly match with comedy. I'm fine with Yano, he makes me laugh, but when the match goes more than 5 minutes with him & his routine, I'm bored. Add to that I'm just not a big fan of Fale, despite him winning.
Hopefully EVIL wins & goes to the finals. I'm picking Shibata/Ishii on the other side. Though it would be interesting if EVIL & SANADA have to face each other, with the winner choosing to challenge Naito.

Shibata beat Juice Robinson to advance. Super slow paced to start, but picked up slightly once Shibata started unloading some big kicks. Juice laid in some brutal stiff chops, but VINTAGE Shibata just took them.
Juice tried for a brainbuster, but Shibata transitioned into a rear naked choke, which led to a fucking vicious PK for the win.
Both guys are great, so I was hoping for more out of this match. Not that it was bad, just wasn't what I was expecting. Much slower than I thought it'd be.
Ishii vs SANADA is overnight tonight. I'll hopefully watch that before the NCAA tournament gets going tomorrow.
