Ishii over SANADA. Very enjoyable match that started a little slow, but kicked into gear quickly after & I thought the ending sequence was great. Neither man had the advantage for that long as it seems one guy would hit 2-3 moves, but the other would fight back. That'd be the story of this one.
Crowd was into it as well, not quiet like the Juice/Shibata match. Just when you thought SANADA had it with the dragon sleeper, Ishii rolled out & hit the lariat. Ending came when Ishii hit the brainbuster for the win.
EVIL vs Fale which shouldn't be that great Shibata vs Ishii which should be fucking insane, I can't wait.
I'll go with Ishii vs EVIL in the finals.

Fale and Shibata in the Finals of the New Japan Cup.
Kind of surprised to see them getting back on the Fale train again. They kind of tries it 2 years ago and it got nowhere but we'll see. Shibata and Ishii was just as good as I thought it would be.
Check it out.

Getting caught up. Fale over EVIL in what started as a wild brawl, turned to rest holds of all fucking things, then turned into a Nitro match with a bunch of run-ins, except it didn't lead to the finish & instead we got like 2-3 more minutes before a "blinded" Fale hit EVIL with his finish for the win.
Didn't like this match at all. EVIL has impressed me in this tournament, while Fale hasn't in the slightest. He's essentially the Erick Rowan of New Japan. Big guy, can brawl good, do a few moves ok, has a sort of intimidating big man look but not impressive at all.
Shibata vs Ishii up next, was going to count the chops, but who am I kidding, I'd lose count.

Shibata over Ishii in a fucking war. This was everything I hoped & then some. This should've been the finals. Instead we get a Fale match to determine who gets a title shot of their choice. I'd love Natio/Shibata or Okada/Shibata, but think Shibata could win the title against Naito & hold it for a few months. Okada not so much. PLEASE DONT HAVE FALE WIN THIS!
Anyways the match was brutally stiff, the trading of forearms, chops, slaps! I winced every time they hit a chop to the throat. That's too brutal.
Japanese crowd when they chant for Shibata sounds like Cheeseburger, just thought I'd point that gem out.
Just when I thought this match was about to wind down, I'd look at the time left in the show & saw like 15 more minutes left & realize they were only getting started. For the storytelling Omega/Ishii was the best, but pure entertainment Ishii/Shibata might get the nod as the best. End result, Ishii is fucking great.

Thankfully Shibata won. I was worried going in.
Ok match.

Shibata over Fale THANK GOD. The beginning of this match where Fale got the heat on Shibata was incredibly boring to me. Then Shibata made his comeback & I started to get into it a little. Fale's offense, aside from his finish, just puts me to sleep.
I liked when Fale went for the finish, but Shibata turned it into the choke. The knockdowns only for Shibata to pop right back up & choke out Fale, then the PK to end it was a great ending to a very underwhelming match.
Kevin Kelly putting over how brutal of a draw Shibata had was really great as he beat Suzuki, Juice, Ishii & Fale.
Shibata vs Okada definitely won't suck. Can't wait to see it! Overall the positives far outweighed the negatives in this New Japan Cup.

I did some research and it said Cody (Hall) hasn't worked since the Bucks incident. Yep. Not sure when/if he'll be back. Cody Hall signed with NOAH and is debuting next weekend.

Looks like his profile was removed in January, probably his contract ran out and was not renewed.
I think he's green as hell but he could get over as a monster in Japan.

He could definitely get over in Japan still. He filled the role he was in well, just that freak accident happened, which wasn't really even his fault.

Okada-Shibata was great. The angle set up after the match....not so much.
Fale does nothing as a threat to Okada. It'd be like Erik Rowan coming out after the Bray-Orton match and beating down Orton.

AXS is showing old shows from 2015. Bullet Club v Kingdom was so good.
Bad Luck Fale in a feud with Okada is the definition of "we've got nothing until the real title feud starts" in English.

Just finished watching GENESIS. Saw people had posted in here, but didn't want to look because I had managed to avoid spoilers.
Yujiro's girl is damn delightful. That's really all I took away from the Bullet Club 8 man.
War Machine winning the titles wasn't surprising. They could have a nice little run there, gain more fame. I've liked their ROH work, so I assume if they keep it up, they'll be signed by WWE eventually. I think they've filled the quota of big dudes with beards right now though
Juice pinning Naito in the tag match was a good way to establish him as the next challenger. He's been getting over with the fans, which is great, so I'll definitely look forward to seeing the match. Think Naito should retain though.
Sabre/Goto was fine, but a little underwhelming for me. While Goto winning I was fine, having Suzuki-Gun attack Goto, only for him to beat Sabre just makes the whole faction seem weak to me.
Takahashi/KUSHIDA obviously set up for something else. It went like 3 minutes. Ricochet getting involved was awesome because I want Takahashi/Ricochet in a feud for the title badly. It'll be insane. This match felt like a way to either write off KUSHIDA in the feud or just a way to add Ricochet to it. It felt super rushed though.
Okada/Shibata was fantastic. Everything you'd expect in a match like this. The thud of the headbutt by Shibata, Okada crumbling, Shibata slowly looking up & the blood trickling down at the perfect time. Unreal. It's rough to watch, but you're so drawn in by it. (I just read an update on Shibata's condition & it's just scary)
Fale laying out Okada after is absolutely "everyone else on the roster is busy at the moment, so let's throw Fale in there as filler". He's just not good at all. Just get Okada past this dumb match & keep him healthy so we can see Omega/Okada again please?

This is scary though. Really hope this isn't the end for Shibata.
Via cagesideseats...
Late in his IWGP Heavyweight Championship match against Kazuchika Okada at Sakura Genesis yesterday, Katsuyori Shibata hit a maneuver that’s become something of a trademark of his over these last few months, a stiff skull-on-skull headbutt that leaves a trickle of blood running down his forehead.
It’s a dramatic image and nausea-inducing at the same time, and it seems that damn bust-open headbutt may have finally caught up to him. Shibata collapsed on his way to the back after the match and was taken to a local medical facility, where he was diagnosed with a subdural hematoma, or in layman’s terms, blood was gathering between the outer layers of his brain.
Tokyo Sports reported (hat tip, as always, to Chris Charlton for translation) that he was talking, but hazy, and numb down his right side. Fortunately, New Japan has confirmed the former NEVER Openweight Champion went in for surgery to correct the issue and is now recovering. As far as a return to the ring, nothing has been said one way or the other, and Shibata is not announced for any upcoming shows at this time.
New Japan promise further updates when they have them.

We didn't even headbutt each other for real in college and that was the Attitude Era. Sorry, that's just fucking stupid.

Meltzer said Shibata has been in the hospital since the match after suffering a hematoma likely caused by the head butt delivered in the match days ago vs. Okada. He is not likely to be cleared again to wrestle.
This fucking sucks. Thought it was an angle, hell even Dave thought it was at first too, but apparently that's not the case. This one really sucks because Shibata was/is incredible. So they've lost Honma & now Shibata possibly forever.
STOP. DOING. HEADBUTTS.

Omega and Ishii had a great match this morning on the Dontaku card.
Even Fale and Okada wasn't awful.
Omega-Okada II will happen at Dominion I think.
Very Excite.

Just introduced a US Title at the War of the Worlds ROH show.
The only way it doesn't suck is if it's defended in the US exclusively. And even then it's not a sure thing.

It's a joke how many titles they have. Hopefully it is different.
