Maybe a bit of a hot take, but the whole presentation of Mercedes in New Japan (from WK to last night) really makes KAIRI and the company look silly.
Mercedes attacked KAIRI at WK, played the heel perfectly on the lead up to the match last night, and then after she won starts crying, and then shakes hands with KAIRI.
Why is KAIRI shaking her hand and putting the title on her?
Just seemed like a weird way to go.

Naito beat Mutoh in what we thought was Mutoh’s final match. SWERVE!
Secret Final Match Masa Chono came out of retirement and beat Mutoh in a quick match for both mens final ever match.
Kinda cool that Chono never got a retirement/farewell match and even though this was just a couple minutes (as it should’ve been), having these two end their careers against each other, the last of their generation, is great.

New Japan Cup update
Will Ospreay injured his shoulder and was pulled from the tournament. Mark Davis replaced him and beat EVIL to get to the semis.
SANADA beat Naito to get to the semis, left LIJ and joined Taichi’s Just4Guys crew with DOUKI, Taka & Kanemaru. That seems like quite the step backwards to be honest.
Shota Umino vs David Finlay and Goto vs Tama Tonga are the other two matches to determine the semis.
I could see Finlay winning it all since he’s taken over the Jay White role

SANADA beat Okada to win the IWGP Title. Hopefully he has a better run than EVIL did when he broke off from LIJ
Also Mercedes defended her title and faces Mayu Iwatani at the April 23rd Stardom show
Aussie Open won the IWGP Tag Titles
And ELP was kicked out of Bullet Club with Finlay, KENTA & Ishimori all laying him out. Wouldn’t be shocked to see ELP pop up in AEW with Switchblade & Juice honestly.

NJPW star and occasional AEW performer Will Ospreay issued the following statement on Twitter regarding a shoulder injury he suffered in March.
“I got cleared two days ago. It’s a weird one. I’ve seen my physio now for about five weeks, and I got range of motion back in my arm. The strength is there, somewhat, but because I was able to complete four strength exercises, apparently, I’m medically cleared. It does feel a lot better, but I feel there is still a lot of weakness in my arm. The sensible answer is to take a little bit more time off, but over the last 48 hours, I’ve been reminiscing and thinking about my 11-year career. It’s been incredible, but the one thing that has been constant, especially the last few years, is that the injuries have stacked up a lot more, recently. It’s because I’m getting older, I’m getting heavier, but because of that, the move set that I started when I was 22 years old has kind of vanished and disappeared. It’s not by choice, it’s because my body can’t do it anymore. I can’t perform a shooting star press safely anymore, so I decided it’s best to cut it out. I’m not going to lie, I feel like my body and me, personally, I’m deteriorating in front of everyone’s eyes. It’s really upsetting and it’s because I chose to do this style. I understand the risks that come with this style, but it’s one that suits me down to a tee and I think everyone enjoys it. I don’t know if this ride is going to be a long one, if everyone understands what I mean. I didn’t think I’d reach this far in my career anyway. I’m just going to enjoy myself, and hope for the best. I’m going to have to change things up a lot, but I’m going to compete, I’m going to come back, and I’m going to do the best of my abilities to do this as much as I physically can. I don’t know how long this ride is going to be, I’m going to be honest. I hope you guys enjoy the ride, that’s all. Much love.”

It's unfortunate he never got that big-time payday in the US.

His style when I first saw him in 14-15 simply couldn’t be maintained by anyone. When he transitioned into the heavyweight division, he wisely changed up his style (whether by choice or not) and it was the best thing for him.
That said, I hope this is storyline and this is an underdog thing, but if he’s wrapping up soon, it’s very sad. Hopefully he can get that WK main event win that’s eluded him.

Mercedes lost the IWGP Women's Championship at the Stardom show. I think this was her first defnese?
Not really sure what the plan was for her. Come in. Be a heel before her matches. After the match put over the opponent.
Doesn't see like she's destined to stay in Japan for very long. Maybe just kind of a bucket list thing.

She defended her title in a 3 way at Sakura Genesis a few weeks ago.
I think she’s sticking around for a little bit, she signed an extension. There’s definitely more matches to have.
Honestly going back to WWE would just be for the payday at this point, I mean what else new is there for her to do there? I’m glad she’s doing this and getting to wrestle new opponents in a completely different promotion.

Every time I see her in STARDOM or NJPW, she genuinely seems happy, which I'm glad to see.
I'm not saying it because I hope she goes to AEW or anything (though some of those matches would be fun), I just think it would be such a bummer if she goes back to WWE anytime soon. She's wrestled literally everyone you could on that roster. And because WWE rarely makes new women stars (except Rhea), there's no one new for Sasha to have programs with that she hasn't feuded with already.

Night One Clark Connors over Kevin Knight Connors showed a much more aggressive side since joining up with Bullet Club. This wasn’t a blow away opener, as Connors controlled most of it, grounding Knight before he hulked up. Connors would cut him off by turning a top rope cross body into a powerslam. Connors missed his finisher, but Knight went to charge and ran into a brutal Spear. Connors hit the Implant DDT to get the win. Post match, Connors beat down Knight with a chair for some extra heat
Taiji Ishimori over Ryusuke Taguchi No hijinx from Taguchi early, as he fired out with a dropkick and springboard cross body to the floor. Taguchi was far more serious, opting not for the hip attacks and shenanigans. Both men traded Ankle and Bone Locks, they rolled around and ultimately Ishimori got the tap out in just about 4 minutes. Ishimori got off about 3 moves, but it was enough.
Dan Moloney over BUSHI I haven’t seen much from Moloney, who has competed mainly in England and NXT UK for a time. His chops are friggin brutal and heeled it up pretty well. This was a good match for Moloney to show what he’s capable of to a new audience, as BUSHI got in his spots, including the Rewind Kick, but Moloney countered the MX into a brainbuster. Moloney hit a Gore and Driller Killer to get the victory. There are some good matchups to be had in the B Block for Moloney to shine.
DOUKI over KUSHIDA This is KUSHIDA’s first singles match in Japan for NJPW since returning from his time in America. KUSHIDA tried wrapping DOUKI up like a pretzel, even getting a gut wrench into a cross arm breaker at one point, as the crowd booed that, they are pro DOUKI. That was the story of the majority of this one, as DOUKI couldn’t string anything together until the end, out-countering him into the Skayde Special for the flash pin and upset.
Master Wato over Francesco Akira Akira toyed with Wato for most of this, to the point where it was pissing Akira off he couldn’t put Wato away. That came back to bite Akira, as the determination of Wato allowed him to avoid Speedfire, but ate an Akira thrust kick and charging knee. Wato ducked the double knees, but Akira countered the Rat Trap Driver into a double stomp. Akira tried Speedfire again, but once more Wato countered, this time into Recientemente for the win.
Lio Rush over SHO Rush overcame the bullshit House of Torture shenanigans to win in 4 minutes. I’m not wasting my time for SHO matches.
Robbie Eagles over YOH The story here was YOH had Eagles number in the BOSJ, beating him the previous two times they had wrestled in the tournament. Eagles had done his homework; as this was a really fun back and forth battle with both men getting about an equal amount of offense. Eagles zoned in on the knee, while the neck and back is what YOH went after. During the match, I think Eagles chipped one of his teeth, so that might be worth watching. YOH avoided Turbo Backpack, but not the combo kick and standing Sliced Bread. After a 450 Splash to the bad leg, both men traded close roll ups, with Eagles superkicking the leg, springboard dropkick and Shining Wizard to win a thriller.
Titan over TJP TJP controlled a majority of this, connecting with his Mamba Splash and got the Pinoy Stetch, but ultimately Titan was able to avoid that storm of offense. In the end, it was Titan who got the submission with a Muta Lock, as TJP wisely tapped, living to fight another day and not do much harm in his first match of the tournament.
Yoshinobu Kanemaru over El Desperado Of course my pick to win this tournament drops the first match of the tournament. Commentary really put over how Despy is always the bridesmaid, never the bride. Kanemaru’s objective, isn’t to win the whole thing (shouldn’t that be everyone’s objective?), but instead to just mess with Despy. Kanemaru really went for the leg this match and I assume that will play into the story of the tournament for Despy. Despite hitting Guitarra de Angel, Kanemaru answered with a Figure Four that was sank in deep. After all the work Kanemaru had done, Despy had no choice but to tap and piss me off.
Speedball Mike Bailey over Hiromu Takahashi This was an excellent main event that was loaded with exactly what you’d expect from these two. Crowd was on fire throughout the whole thing, as Bailey missed a back flip double knees on the apron, as Hiromu hit Dynamite Plunger back inside, only to get two. Hiromu turned Bailey inside out with a lariat, but Bailey rolled through Time Bomb and hit a crazy Trevor Lee-esque float over flipping cross body. This led to Bailey getting chants from the crowd, as both traded thrust kicks, with Bailey getting the roundhouse corner karate kick. Ultimate Weapon connected and Bailey won it to a huge ovation.
A Block Standings 2 Points: Ishimori, DOUKI, Rush, Titan, Bailey 0 Points: Taguchi, KUSHIDA, SHO, TJP, Takahashi
B Block Standings 2 Points: Connors, Moloney, Wato, Eagles, Kanemaru 0 Points: Knight, BUSHI, Akira, YOH, El Desperado

Night 2 TJP over KUSHIDA Pretty simple concept to this one, TJP grounded KUSHIDA for the majority, trying for submissions until KUSHIDA avoided a splash and hit a diving Cobra Twist off the top. Hip toss, cartwheel, dropkick combo led to a series of switches and trading of kicks. Both men traded counters of their arm bar submissions until TJP hooked a roll up for the flash pin to get on the board. Yoshinobu Kanemaru over Dan Moloney Moloney controlled the first few minutes, but Kanemaru quickly turned the tables right around the 5 minute mark with a figure four. That was literally all it took, as Moloney fought momentarily, but tapped rather quickly. This felt like it was just getting going, but being early in the card, it’s no surprise it was short. Lio Rush over Ryusuke Taguchi Even though it hasn’t shown in the numbers in the early going, I’ve enjoyed no nonsense Taguchi. He was able to ground Rush with Dodon, but missed a twisting Frog Splash. Rush was able to hit a spinning Michinoku Driver for a near fall. Misdirect attempt by Rush led to both men hitting leaping hip attacks. The Rush Hour caught Taguchi at the 5 minute mark, followed by Final Hour frog splash for the win. This was a fun sprint. Robbie Eagles over Clark Connors Eagles shoulder is heavily taped, which is what Connors zoned in on, but the speed of Eagles allowed him to avoid too much offense. Eagles tried a Ron Miller Special, but Connors kicked free and demolished him with multiple Spears. Connors took too long to go for No Chaser and Eagles was able to spin through into a school boy to steal it. Speedball Mike Bailey over SHO Pains me to skip a Speedball match, but again, not wasting time with House of Torture shenanigans. Francesco Akira over Kevin Knight The story here was despite being beaten down with a chair by Clark Connors on Night 1, the heart and drive of Knight was what kept him going and not quitting. Knight would avoid the high impact move attempts and hit a no hands leaping hurricanrana out of the corner. An awkward looking standing splash missed by Knight, as Akira hit a charging double knee for two. Speedfire and Fireball back to back won it for Akira. Taiji Ishimori over Titan Once Ishimori weathered the early storm, he was able to just ground Titan and took over for the middle part of the match. Titan did manage to turn it around with a Tornado DDT and dive to the outside. Ishimori quickly responded with a springboard back handspring kick into the double down. Both men traded La Mistica attempts until Titan hit a Future Shock for two. Ishimori avoided a double stomp off the top, nailed La Mistica and Bone Lock for the submission. El Desperado over BUSHI I was surprised how much BUSHI took in this one, as Desperado was screaming in pain having his leg worked over the first 4 or so minutes before Despy started turning it around. BUSHI was able to cut off Despy with a low DDT and lungblower before going right back to the legs. Despy answered with Guittara de Angel and got the pin with El Es Culero. Hiromu Takahashi over DOUKI DOUKI has never beaten Hiromu prior to this and the streak continues here. Hiromu controlled the opening 5 minutes until the DOUKI Chokey was able to turn the tide. Hiromu blocked Daybreak into a running corner DVD and Dynamite Plunger. Time Bomb was blocked into the Chokey again followed by Daybreak for two. Multiple Pumping Bombers got DOUKI a crazy close two, followed by a fireman’s carry swinging side slam. However, Hiromu countered Suplex de La Luna into Time Bomb to win it. This should’ve been the main event. YOH over Master Wato We started slow in this one with the feeling out process until it started to pick up steam when Wato hit a Tope to the floor. Recientemente and Vendaval were able to connect from Wato, but the rope break allowed YOH to get free and got after the leg to create some space. While Wato had his hope spots, it was YOH who strung together enough offense ending in Direct Drive to get the win in an evenly matched main event.
A Block Standings 4 Points: Ishimori, Bailey, Rush 2 Points: DOUKI, Titan, Takahashi, TJP 0 Points: Taguchi, KUSHIDA, SHO B Block Standings 4 Points: Eagles, Kanemaru 2 Points: Connors, Moloney, Wato, YOH, El Desperado, Akira 0 Points: Knight, BUSHI

Willow & Mercedes advanced in the womens title tournament tonight. They will be main eventing the PPV.
Happy for both of them.
Also I’m super behind on the BOSJ. I’ll get to it when I get to it.
You get bigger title matches with Mercedes winning the belt, but I kinda hope Willow pulls off the upset.

Willow just won the title and I don’t think she was supposed to
Merdeceds was supposed to try a sunset flip powerbomb off the top out of the corner to avoid another superplex but she slipped to the floor and fucked her leg up bad. She rolled back in the ring, tried a backstabber and couldn’t jump.
Willow hit a Doctor Bomb and Mercedes didn’t kick out but the ref pulled the count. Crowd booed, Mercedes told the ref something as Willow hit the move again and won the match
Thats at least what it looked like, maybe that’s how it was supposed to go the whole time? I’m happy Willow got the upset and had a big moment. Hopefully her star becomes bigger from this. She certainly deserves to be showcased more in AEW that’s for sure.
