yeah speeps is probably right that this is a giant work (especially with the days-later confirmation of ambrose mentioning him at a house show) though the one thing i do wonder if this "walkout" was 100.0% work or maybe 90% work with 10% of it being a contract extension/re-signing ploy by punk, who would be trying to communicate "if you're not careful you might lose me!"
cuz yeah, i'll buy that he's jealous of the d-bry stuff.... and that the "summer of punk" had the HHH taint where he had to be a guest ref so he could hang out and pose with punk at the end of the match.... that's part and parcel for the chas-type-indictment of HHH/'s-character (as a person, not as a gimmick/wrestler) that HHH has to stay relevant by sticking himself with the hottest thing going in the company, with his newfound/ish behind the scenes status cementing his ability to do that.
i mean, big picture depending on how this all "pays off" it'd be slick if HHH did the 4th-wall-taint-rub with the IRL animus against him and his nepotism/cronyism by setting up "his" guys with the straps and making it seem like bryan (and of course cena, the real FOTC) is fighting for "us" and "what we want" and all of that. classic populist booking at its finest.
still tho, vince has always had a (healthy?) bit of punk-rockedness about him where he's not one to bow to populist pressure and give the fans "what they want" --- or if he ultimately does, it's after he proves his point that he's vince mccmahon and you're some pudgy mark sitting at your computer bitching about a product you've just consumed one way or another (aka "vince wins!") so if i were a betting man i'd bet against d-bry getting coronated at mania this year..... tho inevitably when he does get some sort of a major strap, be it the WWE heavyweight title or one of the two after a re-split, it'll seem like he "triumphed over adversity" and "the wait was worth it" cuz it's interesting to speculate at the psychology of the booking since orton took the title in vintage-heel-fashion.... was semi-burying bryan off of the top feud to build up the wyatts a good move in the bigger picture? probably.... but really, in the end, is vince in the business of giving the fans what they want when they want it.... or fucking with said fans/marks to let them know that they're the addicts and he's their pusher man?
i'd bet on that... with bryan eventually "beating the odds" and getting a decent lil run with the title, lasting no longer than 3-4 matches because with him i think it's akin to a proper sexual buildup where after ejaculating (getting the title and not having it MITB'd away instantly) you realize that the buildup was what it's all about, as the looming "ultimate payoff" of d-bry leaving a PPV with a top strap = always off in the horizon = giving you that investment.... whereas once he has it? welp c'est la vie...we'll see what the professionals do about this situation, anonymous letters from batista/orton notwithstanding =D

oh and also i'd bet that this punk "walkout" is only going to be slightly better than the summer of punk "walkout" --- they still should have milked that for longer and had him masquerading around with the WWE championship while they commissioned a new belt and went on with business as usual and then some ~3-4 months later punk comes back to challenge the legitimacy of the "new" strap and etc etc..... but when a guy's that hot and he's ostensibly the people's choice, shit, you gotta get him out there on the program.
also, i wonder if this punk walkout/screwing-the-fans angle is a proper attempt to get him some legit heel heat cuz even when he was doing his heelish stuff b4 (dancing around with paul bearer's urn, etc) it was all in great fun and he could never really go over as a true heel cuz ppl want to cheer him on so much and etc....
so now that he's "walked out on the company/fans" and blah blah blah, maybe that's a means of getting him some actual heat/boos/etc cuz they had to go meta/4th-wall-taint-rubbing in order to get people to buy into him as a legit heel.

This will probably come as a bit of a surprise........ Rey Mysterio Reportedly Injured at Smackdown Tapings Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 02.13.2014 Another possible knee injury to Mysterio… - Rey Mysterio reportedly suffered a knee injury at the Tuesday night tapings for Smackdown in Ontario, California. During a Fatal 4 Way match with Jack Swagger, Kofi Kingston, and Mark Henry, it appeared Mysterio landed badly on his knee and immediately rolled out of the ring. He pulled his pants leg up, removed a knee brace that protects his left knee and appeared to be in a great deal of pain. WWE’s booking was one thing. Never getting a WrestleMania main event was another. But wearing a bow tie and selling ice cream bars?
As a part of Mattel’s new WWE Slam City line, C.M. Punk is the subject of one of the most ridiculous looking wrestling toys ever made. You see, a villain called The Finisher – something akin to Vince McMahon in Kane’s welder mask – has fired all of the WWE Superstars and forced them to work real jobs in Slam City!
The new toy line, which is aimed at younger children, is a tie-in with a new WWE cartoon of the same name. The cartoon was originally set to premiere during the Royal Rumble. There’s been no sign of the cartoon yet, but maybe it will find a home on the WWE Network.
In the new toy line, Punk comes with the Blast ‘n Smash Cart, a little yellow ice cream cart with his logo on the side. Punk is dressed like a 1950s-era milkman, in a white suit, white gloves, red bow tie, and white hat. The Punk playset also comes with a plastic block of ice in which he can trap opponents and launch them from his cart. The Miz, shown trapped inside the ice on the packaging, is sold separately.
Mattel is also offering up the John Cena Launch ‘n Crash Car. Cena, dressed up as a mechanic, gets to work on his favorite muscle car. There’s also the Breakdown Assault Vault, which looks like the front of a large bank safe and opens up into a small wrestling ring, and includes a toy of The Finisher.
The figures themselves are cartoonish and similar to the Rumblers toy line, but with stretchy arms. Aside from the wacky Cena and Punk figures, most of the others just look like regular wrestling toys. Individual figures include Cena, Brock Lesnar, Rey Mysterio, Alberto Del Rio, Big Show, and Kane. There are also two-packs of John Cena and Dolph Ziggler (with Money in the Bank briefcase), Sheamus and Wade Barrett (with a ladder), and Punk and Miz (with breakaway table).
Vince McMahon never forgets, and he always issues receipts. You wanted ice cream bars, C.M. Punk? You got ‘em.

WWE NEWS: NBCU negotiations end without a TV renewal, WWE issues statement, what's next for TV talks?
Feb 18, 2014 - 12:23:19 PM
By James Caldwell, PWTorch assistant editor
WWE and NBC Universal's negotiating window expired without a new TV deal for Raw, Smackdown, and other WWE programming, reports Variety. Now, WWE is free to negotiate with other conglomerates.
In a statement issued to Variety, WWE described their relationship with NBCU in the past-tense, despite NBCU having the opportunity to re-engage negotiations after WWE tests the open market.
“While we were unable to reach an agreement with NBCU during this period, we have certainly appreciated our long and productive partnership," WWE said before changing the tone to a passive-aggressive dig at NBCU. "With year-round, live programming that is highly coveted by programmers, distributors, and advertisers, we are extremely excited about our future. We look forward to engaging with potential partners who recognize the value of having the #1 show on cable and live content delivered 52 weeks a year.”
WWE is seeking two or three times the amount NBCU is paying annually, which is valued at $140-150 million. WWE executive Michelle Wilson said WWE will now find out what the market will bear.
“We’ve never been in this situation where we’re able to go into the marketplace with both ‘Raw’ and ‘SmackDown,’” said Wilson. “We’re going to let the marketplace decide the value of our programming.”
WWE's current deal with NBCU calls for Raw and Smackdown to continue airing on USA Network and Syfy, respectively, through September 30.
NBCU would like to see Raw remain on USA Network due to the guaranteed #1 ranking that Raw helps deliver for their flagship cable TV channel. However, NBCU is now owned by Comcast, which continues to re-organize the NBCU unit and recently announced intentions to buy Time Warner Cable.
KS won't have Hetty to look at before Raw for much longer...

Dish Network Reportedly No Longer Carrying WWE PPVs Posted by Larry Csonka on 02.19.2014 Not good… According to Pwinsider.com, a reader named Allen Woods sent word that he called Dish Network support this morning asking about the availability of Sunday's Elimination Chamber PPV. When he asked about Sunday's show airing live on PPV, he was put on hold while the representative asked her manager. The representative then told him that Dish will no longer offering WWE PPVs. He then asked if this was due to the launch of the WWE Network, and the manager responded with "No Comment". Dish makes a lot of bad decisions and this is another in a long line of them. I used to have it before I switched to DirectTV at the time, and DirectTV blew them away. I have since moved onto U-Verse but that was due to a tremendous package. So to speak. Anywho, Richard Gray is all over this deal and is pissed! Richard Gray @wnwdotcom 14m .@dish is blaming @wwe for not carrying #EliminationChamber. Here is a transcript of the service lying to customers. pic.twitter.com/ccKOatL43A

More on DISH: Posted by PWMania.com Staff on 02/19/2014 News In regards to the conflicting reports on the DISH Network, the latest is that DISH will only carry the big four pay-per-views, Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, Summerslam and Survivor Series including two other selected PPVs every year. When asked if WWE PPVs were available on DISH, the initial representative replied no, that the Royal Rumble was the last one he was aware they would carry, he then said he wanted to double check that with a supervisor. The supervisor got on the line at this point and repeated the same thing my friend was told, they will carry Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, Summerslam and Survivor Series, but those were the only four they would guarantee. He was pretty sure they would carry Money in the Bank since that sold really well in 2013, and one other, but the supervisor couldn’t tell for sure it would be six. The big four will definitely be included on DISH network, according to the DISH supervisor. Read more: www.pwmania.com/major-update-on-the-dish-network-airing-future-wwe-pay-per-views#ixzz2tnxpNcaO

DISH finally releases a statement. So does the E. UPDATED: WWE Issues Statement on DISH Dropping PPVs Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 02.19.2014 DISH issues a statement too… UPDATE: Zap2it.com has a statement from DISH Network on their decision to drop WWE PPV's. "WWE has chosen to launch a 24/7 online network, without its TV partners, that includes all of its pay-per-view events. As WWE enters the increasingly fragmented media world by themselves, DISH will continue to consider the value of WWE pay-per-view on an event by event basis. DISH continues to provide a variety of WWE programming, including 'WWE Raw' on USA, 'WWE Smackdown' on Syfy, 'WWE Main Event' on Ion and 'WWE Total Divas" on E!. At this time, WWE pay-per-view events are not available on DISH." Additionally DISH Network also wrote the following: "DISH will not offer the 'WWE Elimination Chamber' PPV on 2/23. WWE is not willing to adjust their PPV costs to satellite and cable companies, which is unfair to their customers. We need to re-focus our efforts to support partners that better serve DISH customers. Other satellite and cable companies, including DIRECTV, have also expressed they may no longer provide WWE PPV events in the future." ORIGINAL WWE has provided 411 with the following statement following DISH's decisions to drop their PPVs: WWE is pleased that the majority of our cable and satellite Pay-Per-View distributors are giving our fans an option to purchase traditional Pay-Per-Views as we prepare to launch WWE Network on Monday, February 24. Unfortunately, DISH will not be doing so. We hope DISH will reconsider for this Sunday's Elimination Chamber Pay-Per-View event and especially for WrestleMania 30. Corporation v Corporation. Great. However, the Dish statement is raging bullshit. Posturing and negotiation. They can use it whenever they have a disagreement with any content provider. They don't care about their customers. They're using their customers. Do you think the number of Dish customers that would order Elimination Chamber makes a dent in WWE's numbers? Not really. Jilted ex.

WWE Needs to See the Value in Signing Rey Mysterio to a New ContractBy David Bixenspan , Featured Columnist Feb 20, 2014 One of the most notable items in the new Wrestling Observer Newsletter (F4WOnline.com subscribers-only link, h/t WrestlingInc.com) is that Rey Mysterio's contract is expiring in about two months. Where it gets really interesting is that WWE isn't trying that hard to get him to sign a new deal. Mysterio has always had an odd relationship with WWE. According to the new Observer, just last weekend, he was on the house show tour that ran through northern California, instead of the one that included a show in his hometown of San Diego. Apparently, the reason was that WWE thinks he could be overexposed in the market. This, in spite of WWE only running shows in San Diego twice a year, and Mysterio being injured fairly often. In 2013, he wrestled at the January 29 SmackDown taping and at the August 24 house show, he made an appearance while injured. That's far from what most people would consider "overexposure." The injuries have always been an issue. In the last four years, he's wrestled under 100 matches each year except for 2010, where he came in at an even 100 matches. In 2013, he had just 18 matches—the same as JTG—who's become a punchline to jokes about wrestlers who fall off the face of the Earth. Even though he's one of the biggest stars and biggest merchandise sellers in the company, especially to kids and the Latino demographic, he's never been reliable enough to run within a bigger role. His defenders will say that hasn't hurt The Undertaker and, to a lesser extent, Triple H, and there's some legitimacy to that argument. Mysterio has also been suspended twice for violating WWE's Talent Wellness Program. He also told Patrick Lennon of the Daily Star that he went to rehab for painkiller addiction in 2008. Whether it's right or wrong, you can understand why his reliability would be questioned for those reasons, too. In addition, as we noted before his return last year, it's been reported in the Wrestling Observer in the past, that WWE had concerns about how well his personal doctor cared for his injuries. However, even if he can't wrestle, he's too valuable to lose right now. He's too expensive for TNA to pick up, but AAA is moving into the U.S. with the muscle of film director Robert Rodriguez and reality TV producer Mark Burnett behind them. If WWE doesn't re-sign him, it's inevitable that he ends up with AAA in some form. AAA's American TV show will be on the brand-new El Rey network, which doesn't have great reach, but lucha libre shows have drawn well in the past without TV, as long as they're well-promoted. In AAA, as an active top star, an attraction hidden in tag matches, or even an important non-wrestler character, having him on the poster could make a big difference. Will WWE see it that way? I don't know. They've always undervalued Mysterio—he was signed to a contract with a $75,000 downside guarantee for his first several years in the company—basically the lowest starting salary on the main roster. As a major star who was always on pay-per-view events and sold tons of merchandise, he actually made a lot more (as in millions), but that's not really the best sign. More infamously and visibly, he was booked to go on a losing streak while World Heavyweight Champion. Regardless, until they develop some kind of "replacement" Hispanic star, though, he's too valuable to let someone else pick him up, especially right now with AAA ready to pounce. David Bixenspan has been Bleacher Report's WWE Team Leader since 2011 and also writes for Figure 4 Weekly, available to F4WOnline.com subscribers along with other content, including the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and a variety of audio shows. His brand new article about the 20th anniversary ECW's "Night the Line Was Crossed" show is featured in issue No. 103 of Fighting Spirit Magazine, available online internationally and at newsagents in the UK. bleacherreport.com/articles/1967638-wwe-needs-to-see-the-value-in-signing-rey-mysterio-to-a-new-contract?utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=br_wwe&utm_source=twitter.com

Everyone keeps calling this Lesnar vs. Taker and yes that is the match. But really, the story should be around Taker-Heyman. Remember, it was Heyman who was gunning for this same victory a year ago with Punk. It was Heyman who dressed up like Paul Bearer who will be inducted into the Hall. I'm interested in how this will play out.
