Boers and Bernstein Rolling Thread

The couple times I've listened recently hasn't been terrible. Certainly not to the level of awfulness in the Penn State days. I still prefer Silvaddle.

It's a shame that's where media is going.  Bernstein is good enough to handle a lighthearted Saturday afternoon show, or the MSNBC like Penn State trial.  Sadly, the money is in being controversial and getting people upset.  It's not for me.  But it's for the stupid that listen, or watch, all day and complain the entire time.

The few times I'm in the garage and the award winning Wendy's Big Show goes to commercial break, B&B have basically been there old selves. Which is refreshing, but only amounts to about 15 minutes of listening a week from me.

To Whomever Suggested Giving 1250 A Listen,  THANK YOU!

I'm listening to Bill Michaels as I write this, and though I had intended to give a full week of listening before commenting, I don't need to listen any more to make the choice.  I haven't given the Wendy's Big Show as much of a listen mostly because I'm in the car at that point (reception problems) but what I've heard has been far more interesting.  Adult voices, reasoned opinions, an enthusiasm to both host and have callers, guests that are professionally interviewed.  All things that WSCR used to deliver but have abandoned.

What I dislike most about the afternoon show is that the lead host talks about whatever he wants to talk about ad nauseam, the current diatribe being bullying, and after staking an early ground he keeps winding the conversation tighter and tighter around a theme that he subtly shifts, to the point that there is no discussion or room for counterpoint, or facts or truth.  He right, regardless of position, and anyone who looks to question is invariably wrong.  His partner has been reduced to (and it hurts to say) a babbling idiot.  Its clear he's just cashing a check and playing helper monkey to the lead host.  His next original thought will one of the few he's offered the whole year and it will be snowed over by his toadying to the lead.

There will be more talk on bullying, more proclamations of change that is supposedly coming.  What is missing is who will determine the change, how it is to be implemented, and who will be the authority (will there be someone who sits in a locker room monitoring behavior?), and what actual discipline will be administered?  

Seriously, on one station I get free flowing, wide ranging sports talk.  On the other I get the hypocritical and myopic opinions of a person who acts like his opinion is the only opinion.  Whatever was once humorous about them has been displaced by bad radio, bad thoughts, and bad radio.

Streaming, I now have a choice.













 

Up until about 10 minutes ago, I had mercifully never heard the Bob from Niles segment ever before.

Other than the Spiegs and McNeil parody songs, Bob from Niles is BY FAR the worst radio I have ever heard.

What a shitty situation.

OK, story time with Drop In. Somehow it wouldn't shock me if Grobber has read this board. This isn't close to as bad, but the man probably needs some understanding right now.

I'm on a ten day vacation in Hilton Head. We're doing horrible things. We had what we believed to be a decent dinner. We're at the first bar. I figure out 45 minutes in it was not a good meal. We all had something different, so I'm the only one. This is getting to a crucial point. I ask for the keys to the rental. Everyone knows what I mean, leading to obvious mocking. I mean, that's what we do.

I was certain I could get to the condo. Struggling on the way to the truck, which by the way is a Suburban. Launching myself up, I thought "this is it!" But no. My resolve was strong. This isn't happening. Luckily, we backed in. My friend's dad always said to back in, because you never know what will go down inside.

Halfway on my ten minute trip. I quickly discover four minutes of driving, and an elevator ride, can't happen. It's gas station time. It looks like the shadiest joint in the world, but I have no choice. I enter the bathroom, walking by the clerk like I was just kicked in the nuts. It's a sweet smelling, immaculately decorated palace of a gas station bathroom. I made it!!!!! I spend the reasonable amount of time taking care of everything. My plan is still to head to the condo after. I'm feeling great. Except it returned as soon as I'm one minute into the four minute drive.

I get on the elevator. I was close. But there was no more holding. It wasn't horrible. Took some shit pills, a shower, and tossed the lower half of my clothing in a dumpster. I met my friends at the bar by 11:30 PM Eastern, risking future issue. #Trooper #CannotHoldMeDown
