So Bernsie makes a front butt joke about Weis and then in turn Spiegel calls Bernstein a liar, calls out his character, says he's a bad teammate and about 5 other things I'm missing.

So, I'm going to go from the end. If you'll pardon the expression. Bernstein was PISSED. He'll deny it, and say it didn't bother him the way it did Spiegel. But that "OK Spiegs" at the end of transition was a thing. I've listened to enough Boers and Bernstein in my life to identify truths.
Good for Spiegel. It took what he deemed a personal attack, but someone needs to knock Bernstein down a notch. It's in his head now to keep going scorched earth on every topic. Sadly, he's correct. Strong opinions and emotions get more listeners. But I've found more instances of turning off the radio when he's on each year. But someone finally took him to task. It probably won't do anything.
Using Pat's name without him present wasn't as bad as I thought. When I read he did it, I totally agreed with KS. You just don't do that. I still think Mannelly has a right to be pissed. Don't speak for someone, even if you think you're looking out for that person.
I'll be interested to see how it plays out. That wasn't a radio host fight. Spiegel basically said Dan is making up sources in public. He called out the integrity of a guy with a ton of pull at the station. It could get ugly. Those two aren't a get drunk, talk it out, and it's done duo. They both will harbor serious resentment in different ways. Usually people need to blow stuff out of proportion due to boredom or attention. This thing is real.

Bernstein's boss needed to sit him down long ago and tell him that strong arguments are great....when there is a counterpoint or a counter-voice. Just beating your opinions into the ground with no resistance is not good radio. Being an asshole to callers that are specifically let on the show to give dumb opinions makes no sense to me either. Bernstein was great when he had dumbass north on in the morning and meatball Murph on as well. There was a harmonious balance that is critical to good radio and a good station.
Grimace as I said can ride off into the sunset for all I care. I obviously can't stand him and don't even listen unless I am in sports talk radio dead Indiana and I am tired of listening to Jason Aldean every other song on the FM.
Bernstein either needs to get with the program and go back to not being an overbearing asshat or he needs to continue being an overbearing, self proclaimed intellectually superior, opinionated asshat and join other overbearing, opinionated, self proclaimed intellectually superior asshats Olberman and Maddow doing political talk.

Well then I'd sure like to hear your thoughts on Bernstein!   When Mac and Spiegs first started I liked Spiegs more. It was my first time hearing both. But Divapants has become just too horrible to listen too. He's just the absolute worst. 1. Sensitivity: I get it. The "feelings show" but you don't have to be such a whiny vagina about everything. Holy cow. He got so pissed Mac bet on the Heat with shep and zawzer on board which he funded. Mac was very generous with seeding super bowl bets, show pot, bonuses for the team. 1a. He was such a pansy about fat jokes. Holy cow relax fat pants. It's called busting balls and it's what people do. He freaking cries a river in between his 4th and 6th cheeseburger. When shep zawzer and Mac would talk high school war stories he'd get all pissy. 2. Pay attention. WTF is so hard about paying attention to the guest or partner? Instead he's trying a new chocolate fudge potato chip or dicking around on twitter. 3. Criticize. He's such a fucking clown when it comes to criticizing. Optimist, fine, yea, whatever. But everything is balloons and ponies with this clown. He's so sexually attracted to Jay Cutler it's amazing. The Bulls can do it! The Hawks can do it! Yea go cubs! I'm contractually obligated to say yay go sox! Everything is so happy go lucky I want to puke. 4. Attendance: I like when he's gone to play karaoke. The issue is all the times he advertises they play and the next day where he says it was sooooooo amazing and blah blah blah. 5. He so a pansy. Politically incorrect but he's such a fucking female about everything. Ties to point 1. When he had Reuben he did that "oh man, the world is so different. You just don't understand" horseshit. Dude, probably 50% of the listeners have kids. Fuck off with you have all the answers bullshit. 6. No creativity. What successful segment is his? Over/unders? That's mac's bc it's gambling. Mac let him have it out of laziness. He never pays them off either. Dumb. 7. Assaulting of interns. He always threw them under the bus, told them his jabba the hut ass needed food and yelled at them for getting his 17 item order wrong. 8. Dumb sports thoughts. He hates football, doesn't know hockey, too sensitive about baseball and basketball. Waaaa waaaaa World Series!!!! Why are we talking Thursday night football?!?!?!? He's just such a bitch. 9. Eating on air. Wtf fatty. Seriously? That's professional how? Or good for the listener how? 10. Condescending: mmmmmmmmhhhhhhhmmmmm, *sigh*, you just don't understand. Also, this should be handled on the air. They're radio personalities. If Bernstein wants to go to the Howard Stern School of Broadcasting, everything is handled on the air. It's entertainment. This built up for months. I'd be willing to bet Mannelly has been stirring the pot a bit as well. Off the air. He might not mean to do it, but he's calling Bernstein on his shit. Not liking Dan Bernstein is easy. The fat reference was the trigger for Spiegel to say "Fuck it, let's go!" I'd be willing to bet there are others at the station giving Spiegel congrats. Bernstein, Mannelly, and Rozner coming to your 1-6 slot this Fall. |

I think Bernstein has come to a point where he still enjoys his life as much as he can. However, he loathes his profession. He appreciates working, and yes it's work, five radio hours per day. See his kids. Easy commute. But everyone gets bored no matter how great the life. His early dislike for bad callers, sports profiling, etc. has turned into legit resentment. You can hear it.
The funny thing is Bernstein has become what he ultimately hated. A caricature of a sports fan. He's the modern North. The station now needs the anti-Bernstein.

The only problem is that "skinny" is often height/weight proportionate whereas 200 lbs overweight is still fucking gross. |
