I thought he was going to retire anyways. He got awfully stale once Ricardo was shown the door. For some reason that worked. Earlier in the year, all reports had his contract expiring around Wrestlemania. Now the reports act like those reports never happened. Maybe it's a work.

Details are still sketchy regarding Thursday's firing of Al Rodriguez (Alberto Del Rio) by WWE.
The story going around is that he slapped a a Social Media manager, at this week's television, but there are a variety of different stories going around regarding what led to this.
Based on sketchy stories and what wrestlers have been talking about, at catering, somebody asked the person to clean off his plate. The person joked something along the lines of how that's Del Rio's job. Del Rio found out and confronted him. As the story goes, he didn't apologize and then smiled at him, and Del Rio slapped him.
The belief is he will have a 90 day non-compete, which is likely to apply to TNA and AAA, both of which have interest in him. AAA would certainly be interested in him for the company's U.S. expansion.
OK I can see getting pissed about that and giving a guy a crack if that's true. But you have to be smarter in these especially tough financial times. Or maybe he didn't care if he got released.
And I have now spent more time caring about the release than I did the career of Alberto Del Rio.

WWE is now tweeting about Del Rio. That's unusual.

100% work.
Here's hoping the Social Media manager is portrayed by an NXT guy & it starts a feud. Or maybe do something the complete opposite & hopefully WWE acts like none of this is true & someone hacked their social media & websites. Del Rio can question who is trying to do such a thing, jeopardizing his career. WWE can then realize their system was hacked.....by Solomon Crowe.
Anything to get Sami Callihan on TV dammit, lol. It's fun to bullshit ideas, no matter how stupid they might be. But now I too spent more time caring about Del Rio & it feels awful. I'm done.

Name of Employee Slapped by Alberto Del Rio Leaked Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 08.09.2014
Who is it?
- As previously reported, Alberto Del Rio was let go by the WWE this week for slapping an employee who does social media work for WWE. The name of employee who was slapped by Del Rio has now been leaked by Dave Meltzer and The Wrestling Observer.
The name of the employee is allegedly Cody Barbierri, who is listed as the Manager of Social Media Live Events for the WWE on Linkedin.com and Twitter. Multiple reports indicated that Barbierri was slapped by Del Rio in reaction to a racist comment that Barbierri made that was directed at Del Rio. While Alberto Del Rio's behavior was unacceptable, if the reports are accurate, Barbierri does not appear blameless in this situation.

Ricardo Rodriguez Asked For His WWE Release Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 08.10.2014
He was frustrated with not being used...
- While most of the recent WWE cuts have been made by the company, one was actually requested by the talent: Ricardo Rodriguez. According to The Wrestling Observer, Ricardo Rodriguez asked for his WWE release because he was frustrated with not being used as a wrestler. As you may recall, Rodriguez noted in his tweet announcing his release that he "misses wrestling."
The reasons WWE didn't use Rodriguez as much were two-fold. First, he had been working as El Local and teamed up with Kalisto in NXT, but when he got injured Sin Cara got that spot. Second, the company had issues with his weight and set a weight goal for him that he had difficulty holding to.
Rodriguez was under not only a talent contract but an announcer contract as well. His talent contract had just two weeks left when he asked for his release and the budget cuts meant that a a three-man Spanish announce team was too much, so his role with the company was looking minimal as it was.

The following is an English translated transcript of the Alberto Del Rio promo from AAA TripleMania, which took place last night on pay-per-view:
“History will mark this day as the day that El Patron returned home. But the truth is, after listening to that grand reception, I don’t think El Patron ever left, because his heart belongs to you, it belongs to Mexico. A lot has been said about why I left, why I came back. Seven years ago I embarked on that dream, that adventure called America. And by suffering, blood, sweat and tears we showed North Americans and the entire world, that when you do things with heart, with passion, with love, and being humble under the eyes of God our Father, dreams do come true. Of course it wasn’t easy, and then came a day that the dream turned into a nightmare. Similar to many of you, or if not you, to family members of yours, who have gone to the other side looking for a better life for those that we love, I came across a monster, a monster called racism. Racism doesn’t distinguish sex, race, religion, color, it doesn’t care…if you have money, if you don’t have it. But this man that’s standing right here (points at his father Dos Caras), that has given me everything and has made me the person that I am, gave me the biggest gift a father can give his son – honesty and the spirit to triumph. He never lowered his head, so that I could learn to never lower it in front of anyone. I love you, Dad. In the U.S., they might be able to take my job, but they’ll never, ever take away my dignity and my pride. And on this night, my fellow Mexicans, I promise you and God that never again will someone come and disrespect my people, myself and all those that I love – because I am El Patron Alberto and I am Mexican ladies and gentlemen!”

Alberto Del Rio Reveals More Details Behind Backstage WWE Incident, Says Another Incident Took Place with the Same WWE Employee 8 Months Ago
August 18, 2014
Recently released WWE star Alberto Del Rio appeared on Televisa’s Primero Noticias morning news show, and revealed more details behind the backstage incident with WWE Social Media Manager Cody Barbierri which lead to Del Rio’s WWE release.
You can watch the interview in the video below, and the following are highlights as Del Rio is speaking Spanish:
-Del Rio confirms he did slap WWE Social Media manager Cody Barbierri, and said WWE can “take my job but not my pride and dignity.”
-Del Rio said there were many witnesses to the incident, since it took place at catering, and he named Jack Swagger specifically as a witness. He added he’s not at liberty to say much more about it, but he did say the following:
“This person (Barbierri), I slapped him, I feel embarrassed of my actions. After his comment I stood up and demanded an apology for what he said, but he smiled and said nothing and I slapped him.”
-Del Rio revealed a similar incident took place with Cody Barbierri 8 months ago, he said “[Barbierri] was pretending to read something on his computer, and supposedly said Del Rio is a such and such. I said “what did you say?”, and he said “oh no, it’s something from Twitter.” He then tried to high five me, I told him not to touch me and I went to the ring.”
-Del Rio says he spoke to Vince about the incident, and Vince told him that he understood Del Rio’s anger, but his actions were inappropriate. He told him all was well, however, and to go back to work. The next day he got a phone call from Triple H informing him he had been released.
-Del Rio says he’s considering taking legal action against WWE, and says an attorney told him its unconstitutional for WWE to prevent him from working.

Does anyone miss Del Rio at all? Of all the guys that have gone away this year, Del Rio is the guy that I give a shit about the least. Let me know of any company ever that you can slap the shit out of anyone and than bitch about being fired. Racism is one thing (a major thing mind you) but striking another person is quite a bit worse.
Go away Del Rio.

Apparently it wasn't the first time ThatGuy made racist statements. But Del Rio was an expensive, under-performing guy. He should've known better than t give WWE a reason to fire him.
ThatGuy should've been fired too.

I miss the Ricardo at ringside, grand entrance with the car & fireworks Del Rio. Not the face champion or last heel run Del Rio we had over the last year.
And with cost cutting the way it was/is with WWE, it's not surprising they cut him. But I agree, the other guy should've been fired as well.

I think Del Rio wanted to be fired to go to the new Lucha deal. He also has been planning this lawsuit. Just my opinion. No, I don't miss him at all.

I thought the dude did a solid job. Guess they're sticking with Lilian & Chimel? Or is Brandi Rhodes doing ring announcing too? I liked Justin Roberts, but I'd prefer to stare at Cody Rhodes' wife, who is gorgeous.
Justin Roberts grand moment will probably be getting choked out by Daniel Bryan during Nexus.
I'm sorta bummed, I'm so used to saying "_____ is released, but JTG is still employed!" I miss those days. Looks like Rosa Mendes will fill that void.

- Justin Roberts was indeed informed of his WWE departure after last night’s RAW in Atlanta. He was informed by his superior Kevin Dunn. There’s a feeling now that Lilian Garcia will start doing RAW while Eden will do ring announcing for SmackDown. Byron Saxton’s name was also mentioned as he may be doing some ring announcing coming up.
Speaking of Roberts, there was talk among fans at RAW on social media last night that Roberts was seen yelling at Michael Cole during the Dolph Ziggler vs. Randy Orton match. A fan noted that Roberts also flipped Cole off. As noted, WWE chose not to renew Roberts’ contract, that’s why he was let go.

Justin Roberts statement:
It might sound cliche, but I am truly overwhelmed & humbled by the messages I've received. As a kid who grew up loving & living for professional wrestling, I was able to chase, catch & live an impossible dream. I was a part of events I couldn't fathom with the heroes I idolized from both WWF & various childhood favorite television shows (Hello Betty White). For a guy in a supporting ambience role--usually unnamed & unseen--I am blown away by the amount of people who apparently not only noticed, but also enjoyed my work. Announcing was my dream, until I realized the absolute best part was using my position to help others. It brought me so much joy to bring a smile to a fellow fan's face. The Superstars I've announced & traveled with over the past 12 years are not only extremely talented to work year round and on the fly, but they are also the most unselfish people I've ever met. I couldn't help others without their support. Not one Superstar or Diva ever once hesitated when I asked them to meet a fan..or autograph..or call..or do whatever was needed. After reading through all of your messages, I just want to say this: Please do not be angry & Please do not be sad. I lived my dream! I'm glad that maybe now someone else will have a spot to live theirs. Many thanks to everyone I have worked with in WWE. Sue, the company gem & my guardian angel. The producers who have taught me so much and constantly let me pick their brains. The referees (They make it look easy. NOT an easy job). Security. Props. Audio. Lighting. PR. Cameras. Travel. TR. Catering. Production. PA's. My eyes and ears at the bell-Mark Yeaton. Everyone I have met along the way. Everyone who has come into my life because of this job & to those who I have never had the opportunity to meet, but have enjoyed my work. I appreciate & am grateful for everyone's support. To Vince McMahon, Kevin Dunn & The Authority who gave me this incredible opportunity, I've got two words for ya: Thank You. The journey has been incredible & almost unbelievable. This is the opportunity I've been waiting for to pen the final chapter of my memoirs.

WWE posted a job listing today for a new Social Media Manager. This was the job held by Cody Barbierri, the employee who had an altercation with Alberto Del Rio, leading to Del Rio’s WWE release.
PWInsider has confirmed that Barbierri left WWE earlier this month. The details of his departure are not known yet. Barbierri worked with WWE since September 2012 and is now working as an independent social media consultant.
